IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Salamah

Typing IB IGCSE tutor near me from an address in Al Salamah returns a short, misleading list. Umm Al Quwain is the least populous emirate, so the number of people living within fifteen minutes who can teach Higher Level Chemistry or Extended-tier Cambridge Physics is genuinely small. This page compares Al Salamah with the districts next door, shows why the answer comes out the same in all of them, and sets out what to judge instead of distance.

IB & IGCSE in Al Salamah

Why the near-me question has the same answer in every district here

A near-me search assumes a dense local market, and that assumption holds in Dubai Marina and fails in Umm Al Quwain. This emirate has the smallest school-age population of the seven, and its internationally schooled students are distributed across campuses in Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah rather than concentrated at home. The practical result is that the pool of qualified Diploma or International GCSE specialists living near Al Salamah is not small in a relative sense. It is small in an absolute sense, measured in individuals rather than dozens.

That changes what the search is really asking. A parent typing tutor near me wants someone who can be in the room with their child during the evening, which sounds like a geography question and is actually a scheduling question. Once lessons are delivered over live video, the room is solved and the geography disappears, leaving only the two things that were always the real variables: whether the tutor knows this exact syllabus, and whether the time works after the school run.

The comparison this page makes is therefore between districts, and it is deliberately unflattering to the premise. Al Salamah has a shorter outward commute than UAQ Marina and a longer one than Al Riqqa. Al Raas households are more often splitting children across two emirates. None of those differences changes which Higher Level Economics teachers exist, and none of them changes what a Cambridge 0620 specialist needs to do with a marked script. The differences are real and they are about timetable, not about supply.

Stated plainly, because it is the thing most providers blur: IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, and in-person visits are an India-only service. There is no circumstance in which we would tell an Al Salamah family that a tutor will arrive. What we will do is put a specialist in front of your child one-to-one over live video, in a slot timed to Gulf Standard Time, and let the trial lesson settle whether that format works for this particular teenager.

The rest of the page is the comparison in detail: the districts side by side, what to judge instead of distance, how the two boards sit in one household, which regulator governs which campus, what a near-me listing cannot tell you about permits, and what we do when nobody at all covers a requested subject. That last one is a question no competitor in this market answers in public. One thing is worth settling before any of that: private schools in Umm Al Quwain sit under the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate regulator such as KHDA or ADEK, so an Al Salamah parent checking a campus inspection record or a curriculum approval is reading a national file, not a local dashboard, and the same is true of any complaint they ever need to file.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Al Salamah household running both boards is common, usually because one child is mid-International GCSE while an older sibling is in the Diploma. These are the stages involved and what each demands of a week.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10 and 11

Two years, eight or nine subjects, assessed almost entirely by terminal written papers. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel both operate here with different paper structures and tiering rules for identically named subjects, which is why the syllabus code matters more than the subject title when you book anyone.

Umm Al Quwain candidates are entered through their campus in a neighbouring emirate, so the internal entry cut-off and the mock calendar belong to that school. What belongs to the household is the revision calendar, and that is the part a weekly slot holds together.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and creativity, activity and service. Assessment combines examinations with internally assessed work marked against published criteria identified by letter, each with a stated maximum mark.

The number of campuses within commuting range of Al Salamah that run the full Diploma is short, so Diploma families here often choose a school for the programme and accept a longer journey. That journey is what compresses the evening a tutor has to fit into.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme, Years 1 to 5

Criterion-referenced assessment against four criteria per subject, with descriptors rather than mark schemes. Students become good at writing to a descriptor and less practised at timed recall, which is the gap that surfaces when they meet Diploma or International GCSE papers.

Households with one child in MYP and another in Year 11 are juggling two assessment cultures at once. The useful tutoring decision is usually to leave the MYP student alone and concentrate resources on the examined year, which is the opposite of what anxiety suggests.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Al Salamah families ask for across both boards, with the level and the thing that actually costs marks in each. The same tutor rarely covers both boards in a science, and we do not pretend otherwise.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebra, calculus and proof with significant non-calculator assessment. Marks are forfeited on omitted working, since the Diploma pays for method, and on exact answers left unsimplified when the scheme demands the exact form.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology-led methods. The dominant loss is interpretation: a correct regression or hypothesis test followed by no sentence stating what it means in context or what happens to the null hypothesis.

IGCSE Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Two papers, no coursework. Core caps the grade available under Cambridge, which makes the tier decision as consequential as any teaching. Most recoverable marks here are presentation and method rather than understanding.

Chemistry

HL, SL and IGCSE

At Diploma level the subject turns on mechanism, where International GCSE treats much of the same ground as recall. Students arriving with a strong 0620 grade earned by memorisation are the ones who struggle most in DP1.

Physics

HL, SL and IGCSE

Mathematical handling is the barrier more than the physics. Formulae quoted without defined symbols, vector components mishandled, graph gradients given without the points they came from. Uncertainty work is reliably under-practised at both levels.

Biology

HL, SL and IGCSE

A heavy content load assessed through precise language, where command terms separate state, outline, describe and explain and the scheme pays by that separation. Data questions reward quoting a value with its unit before interpreting it.

Economics

HL, SL and IGCSE

Diagram accuracy earns marks on its own at both levels, and evaluation earns the top band only with a judgement supported by a stated criterion. A balanced list of advantages and disadvantages reaches the middle and stops there.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Analysis of how a text produces its effect, across paper work, the individual oral and the Higher Level essay. The recurring failure is summary dressed as analysis, where the content is retold and the writer's choices go unexamined.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

Reading comprehension, a summary under a strict word allowance and extended writing judged on register. Fluent speakers often underperform because they write the way they talk, and the summary task punishes that harder than anything else.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Al Salamah households actually use tuition when both boards are in play, all delivered one-to-one over live video.

One examined year, one subject

The disciplined option, and usually the right one. Resources concentrate on the child sitting papers this year and on the single subject where a marked script shows recoverable marks. The younger sibling waits, which feels unfair and produces better results for both.

  • Chosen from marked scripts rather than from worry
  • Fixed weekly slot after the school run
  • Written note to you after each session
  • Reviewed at the school's next report

Two children, two boards, staggered

Where both children are genuinely at a decision point, two separate specialists on different evenings works and one generalist covering both does not. The boards differ, the assessment cultures differ, and a tutor strong in one is not automatically useful in the other.

  • Separate tutor per child and per board
  • Non-consecutive evenings wherever the commute allows
  • Shared view of what each tutor is prioritising
  • Either plan can be paused without ending the other

A short second-opinion block

Three or four sessions with no commitment beyond them, aimed at answering one question: is the predicted grade right, is the Higher Level choice sustainable, is the exploration topic viable. Cheaper than a term of tuition and often more decisive.

  • Opens with a marked script or a draft
  • Produces a written view, not a sales pitch
  • Sometimes concludes that no tutoring is needed
  • Can be taken on either board at any stage

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Salamah

01

Al Salamah against the districts next door, honestly

The premise of a near-me search is that the next district over might have a better answer. Here it does not, and it is worth showing the working rather than asserting it. The four main residential districts of Umm Al Quwain differ in commute direction and journey length, which changes when a lesson can sit. They do not differ in the number of Diploma Chemistry specialists resident within a short drive, because that number is close to zero in all of them.

What does differ is useful to know anyway, because it determines which slot to ask for. Al Riqqa, inland towards Ajman, has the shortest outward commute and the most usable weekday evening. Al Salamah sits a little further out and typically supports a 16:30 start. UAQ Marina, north on the corniche, has the longest return journey and works better with a weekend morning for the heavy session. Al Raas households are most often splitting children between campuses in two emirates, which makes the constraint a sibling's pickup rather than the candidate's own finish time.

The table sets this out with indicative times. They are indicative because school finish times vary by year group, and because traffic on the Emirates Road and the Sharjah ring roads shifts with term, prayer timing and the weather. Treat them as a starting point for a conversation about which slot to book rather than as a schedule.

The conclusion is the uncomfortable one for a near-me query. Moving the search two kilometres does not improve the shortlist. Changing the variable you are searching on does, and that is what the next section is about.

Distance is the wrong variable, so compare these five instead

If proximity cannot sort the shortlist, something has to. The five variables below are the ones that actually predict whether tuition works, and they are all checkable before you pay anything. None of them appears in a map-based search result, which is the structural weakness of searching this way.

The first is syllabus-code match. Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 are both International GCSE Physics and are not the same teaching job; Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are both Diploma Mathematics and are not interchangeable. Ask which code the tutor has taught most recently and how many times. A vague answer is itself an answer.

The second is what happens in the first session. A tutor who opens with a marked script or a draft is diagnosing. A tutor who opens with a conversation about confidence is deferring. The third is what you receive afterwards: a short written note naming what was covered and what was set, or nothing. The fourth is the permit position, which is a legal question covered later on this page. The fifth is what happens when the match is wrong, and whether that costs you anything.

Running those five against a candidate takes about ten minutes and protects you from the two expensive mistakes in this market, which are paying for proximity and paying for reassurance. The table puts them next to the question to ask and the answer that should worry you. Ask all five in one written message rather than across a week of phone calls, because a tutor who answers all five in writing has already shown you how the session notes are going to read.

Running both boards in one household

Families comparing options in Al Salamah frequently have both qualifications live at once, and the two assessment cultures pull in different directions. International GCSE is terminal: almost everything rests on written papers in a single series, and technique under timing is the dominant skill. The Diploma distributes risk across internally assessed work, orals, essays and papers, and the dominant skill is working accurately to published criteria over months.

That difference changes what tuition should look like. For the International GCSE child, the highest-yield hours sit in the eight weeks before the series and consist of timed papers and command-term discipline. For the Diploma child, the highest-yield hours sit far earlier, around the exploration topic, the Extended Essay question and the Higher Level subject choice, because those decisions are cheap to change in month one and nearly impossible in month twelve.

It also changes who you hire. A tutor fluent in Cambridge mark schemes is not automatically fluent in Diploma criteria, and the reverse is equally true. Asking one person to carry both children is tempting on cost and usually a false economy. If the budget only stretches to one, the evidence should decide which child gets it, and the evidence is the marked scripts rather than the volume of complaint.

The table below sets the two boards side by side on the points that matter when you are allocating a finite number of hours between two children in the same house.

Five regulators, and which one your household is actually under

Comparing schools is harder from Umm Al Quwain than from Dubai, because this emirate has no local education authority of its own to publish inspection reports. Private schools here are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, which u.ae identifies as holding that role for Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Families arriving from Dubai often look for an equivalent of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and find nothing, which is not an oversight but the actual structure.

The complete map has five bodies. Dubai is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in that emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education covers the remaining three emirates.

The remit is wider than inspection in some cases, which is worth knowing when you compare fees. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. So a fee increase at a Sharjah campus is an approval question in Sharjah, while the equivalent conversation in Dubai runs through a different authority with a different inspection framework behind it.

For an Al Salamah household the consequence is simple and often missed. Your regulator is the one covering your child's campus, not the one covering your address. Two neighbours on the same street can sit under two different authorities. IB Gram holds no accreditation, licence or approval from any of the five, and any tutoring provider claiming such a thing should be asked to produce the specific permit it refers to.

05

What a near-me listing cannot tell you: the permit question

A map search shows you distance and, sometimes, a self-reported rating. It does not show you whether the person is permitted to tutor in the UAE, and that is the one item on the list with a legal answer. Private tutoring here is regulated: the private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and it is granted free of charge for two years.

The eligibility list is broader than most parents expect. Teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18 may all apply. The route is the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation service named Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time.

Two claims should end a conversation. One is that a permit costs money, because it does not. The other is that a permit is unnecessary, or that private tutoring is unregulated: the published position is that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts is published, so a figure circulating online should be treated as unverified rather than quoted back to you as a threat.

There is a related point about who you should not hire. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction. Beyond the rules, an independent tutor gives you something a school teacher cannot: a second opinion on the predicted grade with no stake in the school's own marks.

06

What happens when nobody covers the subject

No competitor in this market publishes an answer to this, which is why it is here. Sometimes a family asks for a combination nobody on the platform covers that week: Higher Level Film, a minority language B, Design Technology at Diploma level, a Pearson code in a subject where our depth is in Cambridge. The honest options are to wait, to be matched with a strong adjacent specialist, or to be told no.

Being told no is a real outcome and we would rather say it than take a booking that will disappoint. The commonest version is a minority Diploma subject in a narrow window before the examination session, where a general subject teacher cannot usefully teach criteria they have never marked against. In that case the better advice is usually the school's own subject teacher plus a study-skills structure at home, and we say so.

Where an adjacent match is genuinely useful, we say which part is adjacent. A Chemistry specialist can carry the physical-chemistry half of a Diploma course convincingly and should not pretend to carry the organic half with the same authority. A Mathematics specialist can support Physics mathematics without teaching Physics. Naming the boundary is what makes the match honest rather than optimistic.

The table states the coverage position for the subject groups Umm Al Quwain families ask for. It is a snapshot of how matching works rather than a guarantee of a particular tutor, and the number of sessions a week any individual tutor has free changes constantly.

07

Online against in-home, priced from published figures

The last comparison is the format itself, and it deserves numbers rather than adjectives. Published market rates for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors quoting International GCSE from AED 150 and Diploma work from AED 200. The specialist band runs about AED 200 to 450 and beyond, with TutorChase at around AED 270 and the top of the reported range reaching AED 650 at BartyED.

In-home one-to-one is quoted separately because the extra money buys travel rather than teaching. Bestimate's Dubai rate work puts in-home visits at roughly AED 180 to 350, with independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to 500. Monthly packages seen in this market run about AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits, and Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Those Dubai-derived figures understate the position from Al Salamah. The drive is longer, the specialist pool within reach is smaller, and the number of candidates willing to make that drive on a weekday evening is smaller again. So the in-home premium here is larger and buys less choice, which is the opposite of what a premium is supposed to do.

Every figure above is another provider's published rate, cited so you can calibrate a quote from anyone, including us. It is not an IB Gram price list, and we do not offer home visits in the UAE at any price. What we offer is a free trial lesson in the slot you would actually use, after which the number of hours worth buying becomes a discussion based on evidence rather than on anxiety.

Where we tutor

The districts this page compares

All lessons are online, so these notes are about timetable rather than coverage. They are the honest version of what changes between one Umm Al Quwain address and the next.

Al Salamah

The established residential core with the shortest coastal run to the Ajman road. A 16:30 weekday slot is typically holdable, which is what makes a genuine two-subject plan possible in an examined year.

Al Riqqa

Inland towards the Ajman boundary and the shortest outward commute of the four. Households here can usually run two short weekday sessions instead of one long one, which suits Internal Assessment drafting.

Al Raas

The peninsula side towards the old town and lagoon. Children split across campuses in two different emirates is the norm rather than the exception, so sessions get placed around the earliest pickup in the household.

UAQ Marina

North on the corniche, furthest from the Sharjah campuses. Heavier sessions move to weekend mornings here, with weekdays reserved for short technical work rather than new content.

Al Humrah

Southern edge towards Sharjah, where students are often in Sharjah schools and finish earliest in practice despite the greater distance on a map.

Al Haditha

Inland on the Falaj Al Mualla road with predictable traffic, which makes a fixed weekly time more durable here than anywhere on the coast.

Falaj Al Mualla

The inland town, roughly forty minutes from the corniche. For a minority Higher Level subject, online delivery is not a convenience here but the only realistic access to a specialist at all.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Salamah

Campuses Al Salamah students commute to

The school, not the home, determines which regulator applies, when entries close and when mocks happen. Al Salamah families are typically split between Sharjah and Ajman campuses, with a smaller group travelling north to Ras Al Khaimah.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • American School of Creative Science, Al Layyah
  • Ajman Academy
  • Habitat School, Ajman
  • RAK Academy

What that means for comparing options

Two Al Salamah neighbours can be under two different regulators with two different inspection regimes and two different fee-approval routes, purely because their children travel in different directions. Any comparison of schooling here has to start from the campus rather than the street.

  • Sharjah Private Education Authority for Sharjah campuses
  • Ministry of Education supervision for Ajman and Umm Al Quwain
  • Department of Knowledge for Ras Al Khaimah
  • Knowledge and Human Development Authority for Dubai campuses

Schools and authorities are named here as context for comparing options in Umm Al Quwain; IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement from or relationship to any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which board, which level, which code

The first message that saves the most time contains the board, the subject code, the level and the year group for each child involved. From Al Salamah the other useful fact is the time the school run gets home, because that decides whether a weekday slot exists at all.

  2. 02

A free trial in the real slot

The trial runs at the time you would book rather than at a convenient demonstration hour, so you find out whether your child can concentrate after the commute. No payment is taken and there is no obligation afterwards.

  3. 03

    A written view, including no

After the trial you get a short note: what the script or draft showed, what the first sessions would attack, and how many are justified. Where the honest answer is that no tutoring is needed, or that we cannot cover the subject, the note says that instead.

  4. 04

    Allocate between children deliberately

Where two children are in play and the budget covers one, we recommend which one on the evidence rather than splitting the hours. Splitting feels fair and reliably produces two plans that are too thin to move anything.

  5. 05

Rematch early if it is wrong

A mismatch shows up inside two sessions: the student goes quiet, the written work stops, the tutor is pitching at the wrong level of abstraction. Say so and we change the match. Waiting eight weeks to be polite about it costs you the eight weeks.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison is made in public

This page compares districts, boards, formats and provider models with published figures attached, including figures that do not flatter us. Three of six ranking competitors in this market publish no price at all, and one declines the question inside its own list of frequently asked questions.

Matched on code, not on postcode

Distance predicts nothing about whether a tutor can teach your child's exact syllabus. Board, level and code do, and those are what matching runs on here. From Al Salamah that is also the only approach that produces a real shortlist.

Coverage limits published

The coverage table on this page states where depth is good, where it is thinner, and where we would decline the work. No competitor in this market discloses a coverage limit, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind a foreign phone number.

Both boards, separately staffed

A household running International GCSE and the Diploma at once needs two kinds of specialist, not one person claiming both. We staff them separately and say which part of an adjacent match is genuinely adjacent.

No claims we cannot stand behind

No home visits in the UAE, no regulator accreditation, no grade guarantee, no self-published star rating, and no IB examination dates we have not verified. Each of those is something a competitor in this market does and we do not.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Salamah: your questions answered

Why does a tutor near me search return so little in Umm Al Quwain?+

Because the market is genuinely thin rather than badly indexed. This is the least populous emirate, and its internationally schooled students are spread across campuses in Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah instead of being concentrated locally. The number of people living within a short drive of Al Salamah who can teach Higher Level Chemistry or Extended-tier Cambridge Physics is countable on one hand. A map search is therefore sorting on the one variable that cannot be improved, which is why it produces a disappointing list.

Would I get a better shortlist from Al Riqqa or UAQ Marina?+

No. The districts differ in commute length and therefore in when a lesson can sit, not in which specialists exist nearby. Al Riqqa has the shortest run towards Ajman and the most usable weekday evening, Al Salamah typically supports a 16:30 start, and UAQ Marina works better with a weekend morning for the heavier session. Those are scheduling facts. The supply of Diploma or International GCSE specialists within driving distance is close to zero across all four districts.

What should I judge a tutor on if not distance?+

Five things, all checkable in about ten minutes. Which syllabus code they have taught most recently and how often. What happens in the first session, where the right answer is a marked script or a draft rather than a conversation about confidence. What you receive in writing after each lesson. Whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition permit and how you can verify it. And what happens, at no penalty, if your child does not get on with them.

Can one tutor handle my Year 11 and my Diploma student together?+

It is tempting on cost and usually a false economy. International GCSE is terminal and rewards timed technique and command-term discipline; the Diploma distributes risk across internally assessed work, orals and essays marked to published criteria. A tutor fluent in Cambridge mark schemes is not automatically fluent in Diploma criteria. If the budget stretches to one child only, let the marked scripts decide which, rather than the volume of complaint at home.

Which education authority covers a family living in Al Salamah?+

For your home address, the federal Ministry of Education, which u.ae identifies as supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. For your child's school, whichever authority covers that campus: the Sharjah Private Education Authority in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai, or the Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi. Two neighbours on one street can sit under two different authorities depending on where their children study.

Do online tutors need the UAE private tuition permit too?+

The permit requirement is not waived because a lesson happens over video, and anyone telling you it is should not be hired. The private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation smart app, website or e-services, with a stated two-working-day completion time. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

What do you do if no tutor covers my child's Diploma subject?+

We tell you, which is apparently unusual in this market. The honest options are a short wait, a match with an adjacent specialist whose boundary we name explicitly, or a refusal. Minority Diploma subjects close to the examination session are the commonest refusal, because a general subject teacher cannot usefully teach criteria they have never marked against. In that case the better advice is the school's own subject teacher plus structure at home, and we would rather say so than take the booking.

Is a home tutor worth the extra money from an Al Salamah address?+

The arithmetic is worse here than in Dubai, which is where most published figures come from. In-home one-to-one is quoted at roughly AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's Dubai rate work and AED 200 to 500 among independent home tutors, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. From Al Salamah the drive is longer, so the premium is larger, and the pool of people willing to make it on a weekday evening is smaller. You pay more and choose from less. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at any price.

Is online tuition actually effective for a Diploma student here?+

It works when the session is structured and the student has a quiet surface and a charged device, and it is particularly well suited to this subject matter. Criteria, mark schemes, drafts and past papers are documents, and annotating a document on a shared screen leaves the annotated version with the student afterwards. What breaks it is a phone within reach, a bedroom door open to younger siblings, and a slot placed before the student has eaten after a long commute.

Which child should get the tuition if we can only fund one?+

The one whose marked scripts show the most recoverable marks in the nearest examined year, which is frequently not the child generating the most anxiety at home. Ask both schools for annotated papers rather than grades, categorise the losses, and spend the money where the categories are technique and presentation rather than missing content. We will give you that recommendation in writing after a short second-opinion block, and sometimes the recommendation is to wait a term.

Can we book a tutor for a three-session second opinion only?+

Yes, and for comparison purposes it is often the most efficient thing to buy. Three or four sessions aimed at one question, whether the predicted grade is right, whether a Higher Level choice is sustainable, whether an exploration topic can carry course-level mathematics, costs far less than a term and frequently settles the decision. It opens with a marked script or a draft and ends with a written view, which can perfectly well be that no further tuition is needed.

Does the tutor follow my child's school scheme or run a separate course?+

The school's scheme, in the order the school teaches it. A student being taught two versions of the same topic by two people learns neither well, and the second version arrives with different notation and different emphasis at exactly the wrong moment. The exception is deliberate retrieval of material taught months earlier, which is the single most under-used technique available. Internal assessment work runs backwards from the school's own draft deadline rather than the board's submission date.

How quickly can a match happen from Umm Al Quwain?+

For Mathematics, the sciences and English at either board, usually within days, because depth is good and the constraint is your evening rather than our supply. Individuals and societies subjects can take up to a week. Minority Diploma subjects sometimes cannot be matched at all, and we say so rather than holding a family in a queue. Online delivery is what makes those timescales possible from this emirate; an in-home requirement would stretch them considerably or make them impossible.

What if my child does not get on with the first tutor?+

Tell us in week two rather than week eight. A mismatch is visible early: the student stops talking, the written work stops coming back, or the tutor is explaining at a level of abstraction this child does not use. None of that improves by waiting and none of it reflects effort on either side. We rematch rather than defend the pairing, and the free trial exists so the first pairing is an informed guess instead of a blind one.

Compare on the right variables and the shortlist gets longer

If a near-me search from Al Salamah has produced four names and no confidence, the problem is the variable rather than the market. Send us the board, the level and the subject code for each child, plus the time the school run gets home, and we will tell you who is a genuine match, how quickly, and where our coverage is thin. A specialist then teaches a free trial lesson in that real slot, online, and you decide afterwards with a written view in front of you rather than a sales call behind you.
