IB and IGCSE tutors for Al Juraina families

Families comparing IB and IGCSE tutors in Al Juraina are usually comparing quotes that differ by a factor of ten for apparently the same thing. This page explains the difference: what each provider model charges, what moves a quote up or down, which extras appear on a bill, and why the number of hours matters more than the rate per hour. Every AED figure here is attributed to a dated published source. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, and Al Juraina households get a specialist rather than whoever is nearby.

  • Every AED figure carries its published source and the month it was read
  • Provider models compared, not competitor brands disparaged
  • No invented price list; the consultation gives you the band first
  • One-to-one over live video; UAE home visits are not offered

IB & IGCSE in Al Juraina

Why the quotes you have collected disagree so violently

Al Juraina is one of the older established residential districts of central Sharjah, sitting inland of the creek among the commercial and light-industrial spine of the city. It is a long-settled area rather than a new development, with villa households whose children attend a wide spread of schools and whose parents have usually been doing this for a while. The enquiries we get from here are, more than from anywhere else in the emirate, framed around price.

That framing is reasonable, because the published spread is absurd. A parent who rings four providers for help with Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry will be quoted figures from under AED 50 an hour to over AED 600, and every one of those quotes is real. Published UAE rates read in October 2026 run from AED 33-52 at the budget end of one online platform to AED 650 for a premium named tutor at another, which is a tenfold spread for what sounds like the same hour of the same subject.

Almost none of that spread is explained by the subject. It is explained by who is teaching, how they are employed, and whether they are travelling. A university student revising alongside your child sits at the bottom. A qualified subject teacher working online sits in the middle. An in-home visit costs roughly a third more than the equivalent online rate, and that third is fuel and driving time rather than teaching. A named specialist with examining experience sits at the top, and in the eight weeks before a written series they are scarce enough to hold that price.

The more important number, and the one nobody quotes, is the number of hours. A correctly diagnosed technique problem - command terms on Paper 2, method marks not shown, pacing across a full paper - can resolve in eight to ten sessions. The same student with a tutor re-teaching content they already knew can absorb forty sessions and finish in the same place. That is a four-fold difference in total cost, which dwarfs the difference between a mid-band and a specialist rate. Ask what the hours are for before you negotiate what they cost.

Everything below is a breakdown rather than a pitch. There is a table of provider models with the published rate for each, a table of what moves a quote, a table of the extras that appear on bills, and a two-year worked example. We do not publish an IB Gram price list on these pages, because the honest figure depends on subject, level and how much of the work is supervision. Delivery is one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, as home visits are a service we run only in India.

At a glance

  • Published UAE rates span AED 33 to AED 650 an hour for comparable subjects
  • The spread is driven by who teaches, how they are employed and whether they travel
  • In-home provision costs around a third more, and the third is travel
  • Total cost is driven by the hour count, which varies far more than the rate
  • Diagnosis before purchase is the single largest cost lever available to a parent
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost behaves differently by programme, and not in the way parents expect. The note under each programme is about what drives the bill rather than what the course contains.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

The cheapest programme to support, because supply is deep. Mathematics, the separate sciences and English are staffed at every price point, which means a parent genuinely has choice and the mid-band is competitive. The cost risk here is not the rate, it is buying support in six subjects when two are the problem, which happens frequently in Year 11 when panic arrives.

Published figures put a qualified online IGCSE tutor around AED 150 upwards. The cost-sensitive decision in Al Juraina households is usually how many subjects to support rather than at what rate, and the answer is almost always fewer than the family first proposes. Confirm the board and syllabus code before paying anyone, because teaching the wrong paper structure wastes the opening sessions.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme

The most expensive programme to support, for two reasons. Specialism is narrower, so the rate sits in the specialist band rather than the qualified-tutor band, and the programme runs two years with coursework in the middle, so the natural engagement is longer. A two-year Diploma plan is the largest tutoring commitment most families ever make, which is why it deserves a worked total rather than a monthly figure.

Published figures put IB specialist support around AED 200-450 and above per hour. The cost lever specific to the Diploma is the balance between teaching hours and supervision hours: supervision on an Internal Assessment is a handful of well-placed sessions rather than a weekly commitment, and families who understand that distinction spend considerably less.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Inexpensive to support and frequently over-bought. The marks in the MYP sit in criterion literacy rather than content, so a small number of sessions explaining exactly what each criterion rewards produces more movement than a term of general subject work. Families who buy weekly MYP tutoring for two years are usually paying for reassurance rather than for a measurable gap.

For Al Juraina households with several children, the honest advice is to spend the MYP budget on building algebraic fluency in MYP 4 and 5. That is what keeps the harder Diploma mathematics route open later, and repairing it in DP1 costs several times as much because the rate band is higher.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

International AS and A Level

Mid to upper band, with cost concentrated into the months before a series. Because the assessment is almost entirely terminal written papers, the efficient spend is on timed paper practice with individual marking rather than on content teaching, which the school covers well. That makes a short intensive at a higher rate better value than a cheap year-long arrangement.

For families planning UAE university entry, the published British-track equivalency route asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no lower than E or grade 3 plus one Advanced Level subject at E or above or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. That is a document requirement, not a reason to buy tutoring.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The note against each subject below is about cost: how many sessions the common problem in that subject usually takes, because that is the figure that determines what you spend rather than the rate.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Extended and Core

The cheapest subject to support because supply is deepest. The commonest problem, method marks lost through working not being shown, takes four to six sessions. Students who need the whole Extended syllabus rebuilt are a different and much longer proposition, which is why the distinction matters before buying.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Extended and Core

The practical paper is the high-yield, low-cost fix: three to five sessions on experimental method language, control variables and systematic error. Electricity and electromagnetism as a content rebuild is a longer and more expensive piece of work, so diagnose which one you are buying.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Extended and Core

Reacting masses and limiting reagents are the usual gap and they take three to four consecutive sessions, close together rather than weekly, because the method decays. Buying a weekly slot for a year to fix a calculation is the classic over-purchase in this subject.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Extended and Core

Terminology to the syllabus wording plus data interpretation, typically four to six sessions. Inexpensive to fix and commonly diagnosed as a general weakness, which turns a short job into a long one at the parent's expense.

IB Biology

HL and SL

Data-handling technique is the efficient target, around six to eight sessions, with Internal Assessment supervision costed separately as two to four sessions per draft. Content teaching across the whole course is the expensive option and rarely the necessary one.

IB Chemistry

HL and SL

Higher Level energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms are a genuine content block and price accordingly. The Internal Assessment analysis criterion, by contrast, is a short fix: uncertainty treatment explained once and applied to the student's own data.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 3 investigation technique at Higher Level takes six to ten sessions and sits in the specialist rate band. Standard Level proof and reasoning work is shorter and cheaper. Knowing which of the two you are buying changes the total by a large multiple.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator and statistical-function fluency is one of the cheapest wins in the Diploma, often two or three sessions, because the content is not the obstacle. Modelling interpretation takes longer. Both are worth separating on a quote.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 guided analysis needs 90-minute sessions to be worth buying at all, and typically six to ten of them. It is the subject where a cheap short session is most clearly false economy, because a plan that never becomes a marked paragraph teaches nothing.

Economics

IB HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation structure are quick. The Higher Level quantitative paper is a specialist job in a scarce band. Pricing these as one subject is how families end up paying a premium rate for diagram practice.

Internal Assessment and Extended Essay supervision

All DP subjects

Costed as a small number of well-placed sessions rather than a weekly slot: narrowing the question at the start, then criterion feedback on the student's own draft. Four to six across a project is a common shape. Nothing is authored for the student.

Arabic and UAE Social Studies

School-stream dependent

Low rate and short sessions, two or three times a week at thirty to forty-five minutes, working on the school's own material. Cheap to maintain and expensive to rescue, which argues for starting it before a report card forces the issue.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, presented with their cost logic rather than their features, because for a price-led enquiry that is the useful comparison.

Diagnostic block, bought first

Three or four sessions whose only output is a written statement of which component is losing marks and roughly how long the repair takes. It is the cheapest thing on this page and the one that changes the total bill most, because it determines whether the answer is eight sessions or forty. Families who skip it and buy a year of weekly lessons are purchasing before they know what they need.

  • Three or four sessions, bought as a one-off
  • Output is a written component-level diagnosis
  • Determines the hour count, which drives the total cost
  • No obligation to continue afterwards

Targeted block on one component

Four to ten sessions against a named target, with the end point defined before the first session. Priced per session rather than monthly, because a monthly package is cheapest per hour and most expensive when the school calendar takes weeks back. For most of the problems described on this page, this is the whole purchase.

  • Named target and a defined end point
  • Priced per session, not per month
  • Progress measured in marks on that component
  • Steps down or stops when the target is met

Two-year Diploma arrangement

A long commitment and the largest tutoring spend most families make, so it is worth structuring deliberately: a weekly slot through teaching terms, supervision sessions clustered around the school's internal coursework deadlines, and an intensive phase in the final weeks before the series. The total is predictable when it is planned this way and unpredictable when it is bought month to month.

  • Weekly in teaching terms, clustered around deadlines, intensive at the end
  • Supervision hours costed separately from teaching hours
  • Lighter during school mocks and study leave
  • Same specialist across both years

What each provider model charges, with the source named

Every competitor page researched for this project compares itself against an unnamed set of other platforms. That is not a comparison, it is a straw man. The table below compares provider models instead - agency, marketplace, independent tutor, tuition centre, school-run support - and quotes published figures only where a provider published them, with the month they were read. We do not comment on any competitor's quality or legality, only on their own stated prices.

The structural point is that each model carries a different cost base. An agency adds a matching and quality layer and charges for it. A marketplace is cheaper per hour and leaves verification to you. An independent tutor keeps the whole fee and may or may not hold the MoHRE permit, which is worth asking about. A tuition centre spreads a teacher's hour across several students, which is why the per-student rate is lowest and the attention per student is too.

School-run support is the one model most families forget to price, and it is frequently free or near-free. Many schools run revision sessions, clinics or coursework drop-ins that cover exactly what a parent is about to pay for. Asking the school what it already provides, before buying anything, is the first cost-saving step and it costs nothing. We would rather say that than pretend private tutoring is the only route.

One honest note about our own position in that table. IB Gram is a matching platform rather than an employer of tutors, delivery is online one-to-one, and we do not publish a fixed hourly rate on these pages because the figure depends on subject, level and the teaching-to-supervision balance. The consultation gives you the band before you commit. That is a less satisfying answer than a number, and it is the accurate one.

02

What actually moves a quote up or down

Parents often treat an hourly rate as a fixed property of a tutor, when much of it is a property of the booking. Session length, time of day, distance, notice period, subject scarcity and whether the work is teaching or supervision all move the number, and some of them move it a long way. Knowing which levers exist means a family can reduce the bill without reducing the quality, which is a better outcome than negotiating a specialist down to a generalist's rate.

The largest single lever is subject scarcity, and it is largely outside your control. Physics at Higher Level in the spring term prices towards the specialist and premium bands because the pool is small and demand concentrates. The second largest is travel, and it is entirely within your control: choosing an online format removes roughly the difference between the AED 150-300 and AED 180-500 published bands, because that difference is substantially the drive.

The third lever is the one families underuse. A 90-minute booking is normally priced below two separate 60-minute sessions, and for a student above about sixteen working on extended written output, the longer session is also pedagogically better. That is an unusual case of the cheaper option being the better one, and it is worth asking about explicitly rather than assuming the quote is per hour regardless of block length.

The lever that should never be pulled is credential. Paying a budget rate for a tutor who does not know the specific board and level is not a saving; it is a different purchase that happens to cost less. Published budget bands buy homework supervision and content revision, which is genuinely useful for some students and genuinely useless for a Year 11 candidate losing marks on practical-paper method language.

The extras that appear on a tutoring bill

A quoted hourly rate is not always the whole figure, and the additions are rarely hidden so much as unmentioned. The table below lists what we see in this market, how each one is usually treated, and the question to ask before the first session. None of these items is unreasonable in itself; the problem is discovering them in month three rather than in the first conversation.

Materials are the commonest. Some providers charge for a workbook or a question bank; others use the school's own material and the board's published resources. Our position is the second, and there is a reason beyond cost: we do not reproduce or supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, so the material a student works from should be what they legitimately hold through their school, referenced against the official source.

On tax, this page will not state the VAT treatment of tuition fees as a fact, because doing so accurately requires a Federal Tax Authority citation and we are not going to invent one. The useful question for a parent is narrower and entirely answerable: ask any provider whether the price they quoted you includes VAT, and get the answer in writing before you pay. A quote that is silent on the point is a quote you cannot compare.

On the word free, one caution. If something is offered at no charge with a condition attached - a trial of a certain length, one per family, eligibility limits - the condition should be stated on the same screen as the offer. Our own introductory session is at no charge, one per family, about thirty minutes, with the student present, and those are all the conditions there are. Any offer where the conditions are harder to find than the word free is worth reading twice.

Two worked totals: a term of IGCSE support and a two-year Diploma plan

Hourly rates are hard to budget from. The table below converts the published bands into two realistic shapes: a term of targeted IGCSE support, and a structured two-year Diploma arrangement. The figures are built from market bands read in October 2026, and they are illustrative arithmetic rather than a quote from us. Your own number depends on subject, level and the hour count, which is exactly the point.

The IGCSE example is deliberately small, because for most of the problems on this page it should be. A diagnostic block of three sessions, then eight targeted sessions on one component, is eleven sessions. At the qualified-tutor band that is a defined and modest commitment with a clear end, and it is the shape that fixes a practical-paper problem or a method-marks problem. Compare that with a weekly slot in three subjects for a full year, which is roughly ninety sessions, and the difference is not marginal.

The Diploma example is larger and should be, because the commitment is genuinely two years with coursework in the middle. The structure that keeps it predictable is to separate the three uses of an hour: weekly teaching in term time, a small number of supervision sessions clustered around the school's internal deadlines, and an intensive phase in the final weeks. Families who buy a flat weekly commitment for two years instead usually pay more and get less in the final term, when they need the hours most.

For wider context on the cost of education in the region, Dubai's regulator confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in that emirate would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Fees at Sharjah private schools are approved by the emirate's own authority rather than by Dubai's, so that measure does not apply here, but it is a published anchor worth knowing when the household budget is being set.

Cheap tutoring, legal tutoring, and the question to ask

  • The MoHRE permit is free of charge, so rate tells you nothing about permit status
  • Eligible applicants include school teachers, employees, students and unemployed residents
  • No fine schedule is published; treat any quoted amount as unsourced
  • Never arrange private lessons with your own child's school teacher

Price and permit are separate questions that parents sometimes merge. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. Because the permit costs nothing, a low rate is not evidence that someone lacks one, and a high rate is not evidence that they hold one.

The eligibility list is wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, and is accessed through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. That is the route to point any independent tutor at if they do not hold one.

No fine schedule is published. Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, and figures circulating online could not be verified, so treat any specific amount you read as unsourced. Separately, a school teacher tutoring their own enrolled students raises a professional-ethics issue rather than only a permit one: Abu Dhabi's regulator has rules barring school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the permit carries a code of conduct addressing the same point.

A tutoring business with premises and staff is a different legal category and needs its own permit from the relevant authority. IB Gram holds no permit, approval, accreditation or licence from KHDA, SPEA, ADEK, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and we state that plainly rather than borrow authority we do not have. Any provider claiming regulator approval for tutoring should be asked to show the permit number.

Where online changes the arithmetic for an Al Juraina household

The cost case for online delivery in this district is narrower and more honest than the usual version. Al Juraina is central, so the drive from much of the city is not long, and an in-home tutor here is not facing the journey they would face out at Tilal City. The travel premium exists but it is at the lower end of the published range rather than the top.

Where the arithmetic genuinely changes is in what the money buys. For a mainstream IGCSE subject, both formats will find you a competent tutor and the comparison is mostly about the travel component. For a scarce combination - Physics at Higher Level, the quantitative Economics paper, Internal Assessment supervision in a specific discipline - the local pool is small, and a family paying an in-home rate often ends up with a generalist, which is paying more for less. That is the real cost argument.

The second place the arithmetic changes is reliability. A session that starts ten minutes late because of traffic loses the part where the previous week's work is checked, and three of those across a term is a session's worth of consolidation gone without appearing on any bill. Removing travel removes that leak. It is a small effect per session and a real one across a two-year Diploma.

To be explicit: IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE and nothing here is an offer to send anyone to a Sharjah address. Home visiting is a service we offer only in India. What we sell is one-to-one tuition over live video with a shared screen and a saved board. If an adult in the room is what your child needs, the independent in-home market exists at the published AED 180-500 band, and in a central district like this one you should be negotiating the travel component down.

07

The one thing nobody should be paying for

  • Allowed: content teaching, criterion explanation, evidence challenge, criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Not allowed: authoring any part of a submission, supplying results, rewriting to completion
  • Official papers, schemes and boundary tables are cited, never redistributed
  • Supervision costs a fraction of a bought document and teaches a transferable skill

A cost-focused page has an obligation to name the purchase that is never worth making. One of the pages competing for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price of several thousand dirhams. Buying one is academic malpractice under IB rules, the consequence falls on the candidate rather than the seller, and it can end a Diploma candidature. No price makes that a reasonable transaction.

Legitimate coursework support costs far less and does more. A tutor can teach the underlying content, explain what each assessment criterion rewards in plain language, help narrow a research question until it is answerable inside the word limit, challenge whether a claim in a draft is actually evidenced, point out that data carries no uncertainty treatment, and read a draft against the published criteria and name the weak criterion. Four to six sessions across a project is a common shape, which is a fraction of the cost of a bought document.

What a tutor must not do is author any part of a submission - not a paragraph, not a methodology, not a conclusion, not a results set. We say this at the start of every supervision block and we say that anything the student did not write has to come out before submission. We also do not reproduce or supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or boundary tables; we cite the official source and work from material the student legitimately holds.

There is a cost argument even here. A student who has had sections written for them learns nothing about criterion literacy, which is the same skill that lifts their written papers. So the bought document is not only a risk, it is a worse purchase than the supervision it replaced, at several times the price.

08

How to buy this sensibly, in order

First, ask the school what it already provides. Revision sessions, subject clinics, coursework drop-ins and past-paper access are frequently included in fees and frequently unused. This costs nothing to establish and occasionally ends the conversation, which is a result we are happy to report.

Second, buy a diagnosis before buying hours. Three or four sessions to establish which component is losing marks costs less than a month of weekly lessons and determines whether the answer is eight sessions or forty. That single decision has a larger effect on your total than any negotiation over the hourly rate, and it is the step families under pressure most often skip.

Third, separate teaching from supervision on the quote, and ask what the hours are for. A specialist used on one identified component for four to eight sessions costs a fraction of a year-long weekly commitment and frequently produces the same mark movement. Ask whether a 90-minute booking is priced below two hours, because for a student above sixteen it often is and is also better teaching.

Fourth, establish the terms before paying: materials, VAT, notice period for cancellation, what happens to unused sessions, and what happens if the match is wrong. Then test the match. Our introductory session is at no charge, one per family, about thirty minutes, with the student present, and if the pairing does not work we change the tutor. If a scarce subject carries a wait we will tell you in that first conversation rather than afterwards.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Juraina

Al Juraina sits among the long-settled central districts of Sharjah. Families here compare prices across the whole emirate rather than within a single neighbourhood, and these are the areas that come up alongside it.

Al Nouf

An adjacent established residential district with a similar villa pattern. Households here ask the same cost questions and their children attend the same wide spread of schools.

Al Ramtha

Established and residential, close enough that families share recommendations and compare quotes directly. Word-of-mouth pricing circulates faster here than anywhere else in the emirate.

Al Majaz

Central and apartment-dominated, with a high share of Dubai school commuters. Quotes collected here often include Dubai-based tutors, whose published rates sit at the higher end.

Al Khan

Coastal and mixed, with a more transient population and consequently a broader range of quotes in circulation, including short-term and holiday arrangements.

Al Taawun

Dense towers near the Dubai boundary where group tuition and centre-based options are more available, which changes the price comparison a parent is making.

Muwaileh

The densest school cluster, where proximity to schools supports tuition centres as well as private tutors. Centre group rates per student are the lowest visible option in the market.

Al Nahda, Sharjah

On the Dubai line with the longest cross-border commutes. In-home quotes here carry the heaviest travel component, which is worth separating out when comparing.

University City

Student population nearby, which makes budget-band tutoring most available here. The rate is low and the match to a named syllabus at a named level is the thing to check carefully.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Juraina

Central Sharjah schools

Al Juraina students attend a wide spread rather than a single cluster, so price comparisons here cross several school communities. Fees and curricula at Sharjah private schools are approved by the emirate's regulator, which is a different framework from Dubai's.

  • Sharjah English School
  • Emirates National School, Sharjah campus
  • GEMS Millennium School, Sharjah
  • Our Own English High School, Sharjah
  • Al Mamzar private schools cluster

Muwaileh and University City schools

The larger cluster, with more curriculum choice and a wider range of tutoring options nearby, including centres. Families comparing a centre group rate against one-to-one should compare what each actually delivers rather than the headline figure.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • The American School of Creative Science, Sharjah
  • Wesgreen International School
  • Delhi Private School Sharjah
  • Scholars International Academy
  • International School of Creative Science

Schools are named only as context for the local education ecosystem. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Price the school's own provision first

Revision sessions, clinics and coursework drop-ins are often included in fees and often unused. Establishing what exists costs nothing and sometimes removes the need to buy anything, which is the cheapest possible outcome and one we will tell you about.

  2. 02

Buy the diagnosis before the hours

Three or four sessions to find which component is losing marks determines whether the answer is eight sessions or forty. That decision moves the total bill by more than any negotiation over the rate per hour, and it is the step most often skipped under pressure.

  3. 03

    Separate teaching from supervision

Coursework supervision is a handful of well-placed sessions, not a weekly slot. Pricing them as one line is how a Diploma arrangement quietly becomes the largest item in a household education budget. Ask for them to be quoted separately.

  4. 04

    Establish the terms in writing

Whether the price includes VAT, what materials are needed, what notice avoids a cancellation charge, what happens to unused sessions, and what happens if the match is wrong. Two quotes are not comparable until these five answers exist.

  5. 05

    Test the match, then commit

One introductory session per family at no charge, about thirty minutes, with the student present. If the pairing does not work we change the tutor rather than suggest another week. Only after that does a block make sense to buy.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Figures with sources, not ranges with adjectives

Every AED band on this page names the provider that published it and the month it was read. We publish no satisfaction percentages, student counts or ratings, because the underlying data for such claims cannot be produced and an unsourced number is decoration.

Models compared, not brands attacked

The comparison table compares agency, marketplace, independent tutor, centre and school provision, quoting published prices with dates. We make no claims about any competitor's quality or legality, which is both fairer and more useful.

The hour count treated as the real variable

Diagnosis comes before purchase because it determines whether the answer is eight sessions or forty. That is a four-fold difference in total cost, which is larger than any difference between rate bands.

No invented price list

We do not publish a fixed hourly rate on these pages, because the honest figure depends on subject, level and the teaching-to-supervision balance. The consultation gives you the band before you commit to anything.

Terms stated before payment

Materials, cancellation notice, unused sessions and tutor replacement are settled in the first conversation. Our introductory session is at no charge, one per family, thirty minutes, with the student present, and those are all the conditions attached to it.

The purchase we tell you not to make

Nobody should buy completed coursework at any price. It is malpractice under IB rules, the consequence falls on the student, and it teaches none of the criterion literacy that would have lifted their written papers too.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Juraina: your questions answered

Why do two tutors quote completely different prices for the same subject?+

Because the rate reflects who is teaching and whether they travel, not what is being taught. Published UAE figures read in October 2026 run from AED 33-52 at one budget platform to AED 650 for a premium named tutor elsewhere. A student or graduate tutor sits at the bottom, a qualified subject teacher online in the middle at AED 150-300, an in-home visit at AED 180-500 because the rate absorbs the drive, and a scarce Higher Level specialist at AED 200-450 and above. Ask what credential and what format each quote assumes.

What is the cheapest sensible way to get IGCSE help in Sharjah?+

Ask the school what it already provides, because revision sessions and subject clinics are often included in fees and unused. If private help is still needed, the cheapest effective shape is a three-session diagnosis followed by eight targeted sessions on the one component that is losing marks, at the qualified-tutor band of AED 150-300 an hour. That is eleven sessions with a defined end, against roughly ninety for a weekly slot in three subjects across a year at the same rate.

Does a cheaper tutor cost more in the end?+

Often, yes, because the total is driven by the hour count rather than the rate. A correctly diagnosed technique problem can resolve in eight to ten sessions. The same student with a tutor who re-teaches content they already knew can absorb forty and finish in the same place, which is a four-fold difference in total cost at any rate band. Published budget bands typically buy homework supervision and content revision rather than exam technique at a named board and level, which is a different purchase that happens to be cheaper.

What should we ask before paying for a block of sessions?+

Five things. Does the quoted price include VAT. What materials will my child need to buy. What notice avoids a cancellation charge. What happens to sessions we have paid for and not used. And what happens if the match is wrong. Two quotes cannot be compared until all five are answered, preferably in writing. Then ask the question that matters most: what are these hours intended to fix, and how will we know whether it worked.

Are monthly tutoring packages good value in the UAE?+

They are the cheapest per hour and the least flexible. Published examples in the market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour home visits. The problem is that the academic year takes weeks back: mock fortnight, study leave, school revision programmes, Ramadan timings and holidays. A package that assumes four usable weeks every month will have unused sessions, so ask what happens to them before committing.

Does a quoted tutoring price include VAT?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing. This page deliberately does not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as a fact, because doing so accurately needs a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than a tutoring provider's assertion. What you can and should establish is narrower: whether the specific figure you were quoted is the figure you will pay. A quote that is silent on the point is not comparable with one that is explicit, and the difference can be material across a two-year arrangement.

How many sessions will my child actually need?+

It depends on the type of problem, and the ranges are reasonably predictable once it is diagnosed. Science practical-paper method language usually takes three to five sessions. Showing working to secure method marks takes four to six. Command-term discipline on extended responses takes four to eight. Higher Level mathematics Paper 3 technique takes six to ten. Internal Assessment criterion work takes two to four sessions per draft. Content gaps are open-ended, which is why finding out which kind you have is worth paying for first.

What extras get added to a tutoring bill?+

Materials and workbooks, VAT where it is not in the quote, travel or distance surcharges on in-home arrangements, late-cancellation charges, and sometimes peak-season rates in the weeks before a series. None is unreasonable in itself; the problem is meeting them in month three. Our own position on materials is to work from the school's own resources and the official published sources, partly on cost and partly because we do not reproduce or distribute board papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables.

Is it cheaper to put two children in the same session?+

Cheaper, yes, and usually a false economy if the two children have different problems. One-to-one means one student, and the diagnosis that makes the hour worth buying is specific to them. Where siblings are at the same stage, on the same board and with the same component weakness, a shared session can work. Where they are not, you are paying for an hour in which each child receives half the attention on work that is only half relevant. Separate shorter sessions usually beat one shared longer one.

What happens to sessions we have paid for but not used?+

It varies between providers, which is exactly why it should be settled before payment rather than discovered later. Some expire at the end of a month, some roll forward, some are forfeited after a notice period. Monthly packages are the most exposed to this, because the academic calendar reliably removes weeks through mocks, study leave and holidays. Ask the question in the first conversation and get the answer in writing; a provider who will not answer it clearly has told you something useful.

Should we pay per session or per month?+

Per session for anything short or targeted, which covers most of what this page recommends. Per month only when you are confident the sessions will actually be used, which in practice means a steady teaching term rather than a spring term full of mocks and study leave. Monthly packages are cheapest per hour, and the saving is real, but it disappears the first time three sessions go unused. Match the payment shape to the calendar rather than to the headline rate.

Does the price go up closer to the exams?+

In the market, yes. Demand for specialists concentrates into the eight to twelve weeks before a written series, and the scarce combinations - Physics at Higher Level, quantitative Economics, Computer Science - price towards the specialist and premium bands at exactly that point. The practical response is to secure a scarce slot in the autumn term, when both availability and rates are better. A slot that is unavailable in February cannot be created in February at any price, which is the market saying the same thing.

Is a tuition centre cheaper than a private tutor in Sharjah?+

Per student, yes, and it is the lowest visible option in the market, because a teacher's hour is divided between several students. What you give up is the thing that makes one-to-one worth buying: individual script analysis against the mark scheme. A centre group class is good value for content coverage and poor value for a specific component problem. The sensible question is which of those two your child needs, which is a diagnostic question rather than a pricing one.

How much of an in-home rate is the travel?+

Roughly the difference between the published bands. A qualified subject tutor online sits at AED 150-300 an hour; in-home one-to-one with travel included sits at AED 180-500, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table listing 180-350 and individual listings reaching 500. Most of that gap is driving time and fuel rather than teaching. In a central district like this one the drive is shorter than it would be inland, so the travel component should be at the lower end, and it is a reasonable thing to raise when negotiating.

What does a two-year Diploma support plan cost in total?+

It depends on structure more than on rate. A predictable shape is around 28 weekly teaching sessions across DP1 term time, 8 to 12 supervision sessions clustered on the school's internal coursework deadlines, and 16 to 24 sessions in a final intensive phase, at the specialist band of AED 200-450 and above. A flat weekly commitment for two years costs more and typically leaves too little budget for the final term, when the hours actually convert into marks. We do not publish a fixed rate; the consultation gives you the band.

Get the diagnosis priced before the hours

If you are comparing quotes, the most useful thing you can do is make them comparable: ask each provider whether the price includes VAT, what materials are needed, what notice avoids a charge, what happens to unused sessions, and what the hours are intended to fix. Then buy a short diagnosis before a block, because whether the answer is eight sessions or forty moves your total far more than the rate per hour does. Our introductory session is at no charge, one per family, with the student present. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video.
