IB and IGCSE tutors for Al Mamsha families

The households asking for IB and IGCSE tutors in Al Mamsha are mostly apartment families inside a walkable district beside University City, and their requests skew towards the subjects that are hardest to staff locally: Physics at Higher Level, Economics with the quantitative paper, Computer Science, Extended Essay supervision in a named discipline. This page is about subject availability - which combinations are genuinely scarce in Sharjah, what scarcity does to the price, and what the honest fallback is. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Al Mamsha

A walkable district beside University City, and an unusually specific demand pattern

Al Mamsha is a planned walkable district in the Muwaileh part of Sharjah, built as apartments over ground-floor retail beside the University City corridor. Its resident mix is distinctive: a high proportion of professional households, many with one or both parents working in education or at the universities nearby, a lot of apartment living rather than villa living, and families who chose the area deliberately for the walkability rather than ending up there by default. That mix produces a demand pattern unlike the villa districts further inland.

The pattern is this. Enquiries from here are more specific than average and arrive later in a student's school career. Parents who work in or around education do not ask for a maths tutor; they ask for an Analysis and Approaches Higher Level tutor who can handle Paper 3, or for Extended Essay supervision in Economics specifically. They have usually already diagnosed the problem themselves and are shopping for a particular capability. That is a better brief to receive, and it exposes a different problem: the capability they want is frequently the one that is hardest to find locally.

Subject scarcity in a market like Sharjah is real and nobody writes about it honestly. For IGCSE Mathematics, any format will find you somebody competent within days. For Physics at Higher Level in the eight weeks before a written series, the pool of people who specialise in it, are free at 18:30 on a Tuesday, and are willing to travel to a specific address is close to empty. The pool who specialise in it and teach over live video is substantially larger. That gap is the entire practical argument for the format in a district like this.

There is a second reason availability deserves a page of its own here. Al Mamsha is dense and walkable, which means the usual case against in-home tutoring - the drive, the traffic, the travel premium - is weaker than it is in Al Rahmaniya or Tilal City. A tutor really could walk over from the next block. So this page does not lean on the travel argument. It makes the subject-pool argument instead, which is the honest one for this address, and it says plainly where in-home would be the better choice.

What follows is a coverage table naming which combinations are scarce and what the fallback is, a decision table for the two Diploma mathematics courses tied to university entry, a reference table of word and page limits across assessed components, the permit position for anyone teaching privately in the UAE, and what scarcity does to the published rate. Delivery is one-to-one over live video throughout. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that is a service we run only in India.

At a glance

  • Enquiries here are unusually specific: a named subject at a named level, often with the component identified
  • The scarce combinations are Higher Level sciences, quantitative Economics and Computer Science
  • Walkability weakens the travel argument, so this page makes the subject-pool argument instead
  • Coverage limits and wait times are stated before any commitment
  • Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a MoHRE permit, free of charge for two years
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Scarcity is not evenly distributed across programmes. The note under each one below is about staffing rather than content: how easy or hard it is to find a specialist for that programme in this market, and where the pinch points fall.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. The Diploma generates the scarcest tutoring requests of any programme because the specialism is narrow: a Physics Higher Level request cannot be filled by a general science tutor, and an Extended Essay supervision request in a named subject cannot be filled by a generalist at all. The deeper the level, the smaller the local pool.

Al Mamsha households ask for Higher Level cover more often than the Sharjah average, which is consistent with the professional and academic resident mix. Diploma candidates here sit the May session. Specific IB session and results dates are not restated on this page because they must be confirmed with the school's IB coordinator against the IB's own published material.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

The best-covered programme in the market. Mathematics, the separate sciences and English are staffed deeply, and a match is usually immediate. The exceptions are the minority subjects - Computer Science, Business Studies with a case-study component, Additional Mathematics - where the pool thins quickly and the wait can be a week or two in a busy term.

Confirm the board and syllabus code from the school's exam entry rather than the textbook, because Cambridge and Pearson split the same subject into different papers. Confirm the series at the same time. Cambridge gives UAE centres a June series and a November series, and the choice between them is really a resit decision: sit in June with the cohort, or use November to retake a single paper-heavy subject without repeating the year. Entries for either close months ahead of the papers themselves, so the Core or Extended decision is taken long before anyone sees a timetable, and your school's exams officer holds the exact closing date for your centre.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Well covered for the core subjects and thinner for design, the arts and the interdisciplinary work. The specific scarcity here is criterion-literate tutors: plenty of people can teach MYP mathematics content, far fewer can explain precisely what Criterion C rewards and read a student's work against it, which is where the marks actually sit.

For families in this district the MYP years are usually where the Diploma mathematics route is quietly decided. Building algebraic fluency in MYP 4 and 5 is what keeps Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level open as an option two years later, and it is far cheaper than repairing it in DP1.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

International AS and A Level

Narrow and deep, with most of the weight on terminal written papers. Staffing mirrors the Diploma: the mainstream three or four subjects are covered, and Further Mathematics, Computer Science and the less common sciences are the thin spots. Demand concentrates sharply in the months before a series, which is exactly when the scarce specialists are least available.

For UAE university entry the published British-track equivalency route asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no lower than E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or above or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. Verify your own case on moe.gov.ae.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The list below is ordered by how hard each one is to staff in this market rather than by popularity, with a note on what the specialism actually consists of. It is the honest version of a subject grid.

IB Physics

HL and SL

The hardest single combination to cover at Higher Level, and the hardest of all in the weeks before a series. The specialism is not physics knowledge but command-term discipline on Paper 2 extended responses and the option-topic depth that HL adds. A generalist science tutor cannot substitute.

IB Chemistry

HL and SL

Scarce at Higher Level, where energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms separate grades. Internal Assessment supervision in chemistry is scarcer still, because it needs someone who can read a student's data treatment against the analysis criterion rather than check the chemistry.

Economics

IB HL and SL

The quantitative Higher Level paper is the pinch point. Plenty of tutors can teach the theory and diagrams; far fewer are comfortable with the calculation-based paper, and that is where Higher Level candidates lose the marks that separate a 5 from a 7.

Computer Science

IB HL and SL, IGCSE

Thin at every level, and the thinnest of our Diploma subjects. The Internal Assessment is a developed solution with its own documentation requirements, which needs someone who has supervised one rather than someone who can program.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Well covered at Standard Level, noticeably tighter at Higher Level where Paper 3 asks for an extended unfamiliar investigation under time. The specialism is method selection and proof technique rather than computational ability.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Reasonably covered, with the caveat that technology use is assessed. A tutor who is not fluent in the statistical and modelling functions of the student's own calculator is teaching the wrong course, and that is a surprisingly common mismatch.

IB Biology

HL and SL

The best-covered Diploma science. The specialism worth paying for is data-handling technique and the exact terminology the mark scheme rewards, rather than content, which most students can reach from the textbook.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Extended and Core

Deeply staffed. The useful specialism is the practical paper: writing experimental method in mark-scheme language, controlling variables, naming systematic error. That is a short, high-yield piece of work rather than a long course.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Extended and Core

The most available subject in the market, with matches usually possible immediately. Extended-tier marks leave on multi-step unscaffolded problems and on method not being shown, both of which respond quickly.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Well covered for Paper 1 guided analysis, thinner for Individual Oral preparation, which needs someone who has heard a lot of them. A global issue narrow enough to argue for ten minutes is the single most useful thing to get right early.

Extended Essay supervision

All DP subjects

Availability depends entirely on the discipline. Sciences and individuals and societies are coverable; arts and the less common subjects need notice. Supervision means criterion feedback on the student's own draft and nothing authored for them.

Theory of Knowledge

DP core

Scarce, because few tutors enjoy it and fewer have marked it. The work consists of helping a student frame a knowledge question tightly and test whether their claims hold, which is a specific skill rather than general essay coaching.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, differentiated by how scarce the capability being bought is. The scarcer the specialism, the more the format has to be planned around the tutor's availability rather than the household's preference.

Scarce-subject weekly slot

A fixed weekly session in a combination that is hard to staff locally - Physics at Higher Level, quantitative Economics, Computer Science, Theory of Knowledge. These are booked for the year rather than month to month, because the specialist's calendar fills and a gap in February cannot be refilled in February. Families in this district who know they will need Higher Level cover should claim the slot in the autumn rather than the spring.

  • Booked for the academic year, not month to month
  • Claimed in the autumn, because spring availability is thin
  • Same specialist across the two Diploma years
  • Wait time, if any, stated before you commit

Short targeted component block

Four to eight sessions on one identified component: Paper 3 investigation technique, the quantitative Economics paper, practical-paper method language, criterion literacy on an Internal Assessment. This is the efficient way to buy a scarce specialist, because it uses their time on the part of the course only they can address and leaves the rest to the school and independent work.

  • One named component, four to eight sessions
  • Uses a scarce specialist's time on the part only they can cover
  • Progress measured in marks on that component
  • Ends when the component is fixed

Extended Essay or Internal Assessment supervision

Criterion-focused sessions on the student's own draft, in a named discipline, scheduled around the school's internal deadlines rather than a weekly rhythm. Availability depends on the subject: the sciences and individuals and societies can usually be matched quickly, while arts and minority subjects need notice. Nothing is authored for the student at any stage of this work.

  • Scheduled around the school's internal deadlines
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Discipline-specific supervision, not general essay coaching
  • Notice needed for arts and minority subjects

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mamsha

01

Which subject and level combinations are genuinely scarce in Sharjah

No competitor page in the ten query clusters researched for this project discloses a coverage limit. Several conceal non-UAE delivery behind a phone number from another country. We think the disclosure is worth more than the illusion of unlimited supply, because a parent who knows there is a ten-day wait for Physics at Higher Level can plan around it, and a parent being managed cannot. The table below sets out what we can actually cover, how fast, and what happens when we cannot.

Read the fallback column rather than the availability column. Every provider in this market can produce a tutor eventually; the question is what that tutor actually is. Our fallback for a scarce combination is a specialist from our wider pool, which is centred on India and includes tutors who have taught these syllabuses to international cohorts for years. Delivery is unchanged because it was always one-to-one over live video, and the time zone usually helps rather than hinders a Gulf evening slot.

The one genuine difference with a non-UAE specialist is institutional familiarity. A tutor who has worked with Sharjah schools knows how internal coursework deadlines tend to fall and what a particular school's mock timetable looks like. A tutor from the wider pool learns that from the student's own documents in the first session, which costs perhaps twenty minutes once. We would rather name that cost than pretend it does not exist.

Timing changes everything in this table. In October, almost every combination is coverable within a week. In the eight weeks before a written series, the scarce rows get scarcer and the premium rates in the market rise, which is visible in the published figures. For a household in this district that expects to need Higher Level support, the practical advice is to secure it in the autumn term.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and what it closes off

This is the most consequential subject decision in the Diploma and the one most often made on the basis of which sounds easier. The two courses are not a harder and an easier version of the same thing. They assess different mathematics with different tools, and they are received differently by university admissions offices, which is the part that matters years after the choice is made.

Analysis and Approaches is the proof-and-algebra route. It rewards algebraic manipulation, formal reasoning and, at Higher Level, the ability to sustain an unfamiliar extended investigation in Paper 3. Applications and Interpretation is the modelling-and-statistics route, with technology use explicitly assessed, which means a student who avoids their calculator's statistical functions loses marks they never attempted. Neither is soft. Students who choose Applications expecting an easy ride frequently do worse than they would have done on Analysis.

The admissions consequence is where families need to be careful, and also where this page will not overstate what it knows. Engineering, mathematics, physics and many computer science programmes commonly expect the Analysis route at Higher Level, and some state it explicitly. Economics and business programmes vary. Health sciences vary more. The only reliable method is to read the entry requirements of the specific universities and programmes your child is likely to apply to, including the UAE institutions, and to do that in DP1 rather than DP2.

What we can do is tell you which route the student's own attainment points to. A student with strong arithmetic reasoning and weak algebraic manipulation is usually better served by Applications; one with the reverse profile by Analysis. Changing route after DP1 has started is possible in some schools and disruptive in all of them, so the honest moment to get this right is subject selection, before either course has begun.

Word and page limits across assessed components, in one place

Nobody publishes this as a reference table, and students lose marks to it every year. Assessed components carry limits, and the consequences of exceeding them range from an examiner stopping at the limit to a criterion being capped. Students who write to the limit from the first draft produce tighter work than students who write freely and then cut, because cutting removes evidence rather than padding.

The limits also shape how supervision time should be used. A 4,000-word Extended Essay with a research question that cannot be answered in 4,000 words is not a writing problem; it is a question problem, and it is fixable in one session at the start and almost unfixable at the end. The most valuable thing a supervisor does is narrow the question until the word limit becomes sufficient rather than restrictive.

A caution on this table. Component requirements are set by the boards and are revised between syllabus cycles, so treat the figures below as a prompt to check rather than as a substitute for checking. The authoritative source is the current subject guide or specification your child's school is working to, which the school holds. We reference official material and work from what the student legitimately has rather than redistributing board documents.

The practical habit worth building is that the student records the limit at the top of their own draft and tracks against it from the beginning. It sounds trivial. It is the difference between a final week spent refining an argument and a final week spent deleting one.

04

Is the person teaching your child legally permitted to do it?

Only one competitor page in the entire research set touches licensing, in a single subheading, and it appears to rank partly on that alone. The position is clear and worth knowing. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the permit is granted free of charge for two years. Anyone providing private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE is subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws.

The eligibility list is broader than parents expect. It includes teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. That is the official route to point anyone at.

Two cautions follow. First, no fine schedule is published. Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, and a figure circulating online could not be verified, so treat any specific amount you read as unsourced. Second, a school teacher tutoring their own enrolled students is a separate issue: Abu Dhabi's regulator has professional-ethics rules barring school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the permit carries a code of conduct that also addresses this. Never seek out your child's own teacher privately.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit in Dubai. IB Gram holds no permit, approval, accreditation or licence from KHDA, SPEA, ADEK, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and says so plainly. Any page claiming such status for a tutoring platform should be read sceptically.

What a scarce specialist costs, and why the number moves

Published UAE rates read in October 2026 show a wide spread, and the spread is explained by who is teaching rather than by what is taught. A budget online tutor sits at AED 45-150, a qualified subject tutor at AED 150-300, an IB or IGCSE specialist at AED 200-450 and above, and a premium named or examining-experienced tutor at AED 500-650 and above. In-home provision runs AED 180-500 because the rate absorbs travel. Those are market figures from the sources named, not an IB Gram price list.

Scarcity moves the number along that scale in a predictable way. The subjects at the bottom of the coverage table - Physics at Higher Level, quantitative Economics, Computer Science, Theory of Knowledge - price towards the specialist and premium bands, and they price highest in the eight weeks before a series when demand concentrates. The subjects at the top of the coverage table price towards the qualified-tutor band all year, because supply is deep.

The efficient response to that is not to pay the premium for longer, it is to pay it for less time on the right thing. A scarce specialist used for a four-to-eight-session block on one identified component, with the school and independent work covering everything else, costs a fraction of a year-long weekly commitment and usually produces the same mark movement. This is the single most useful planning idea on the page for a household in this district.

IB Gram does not publish a fixed rate card here, because the figure depends on subject, level and the balance of teaching to supervision. A short consultation gives you the band before you commit, and if the honest recommendation is a short block rather than a year, that is what we will say.

The walkable-district question: why not use someone from the next block?

  • In a walkable district the travel argument is weak, so this page does not rely on it
  • The real constraint is whether the scarce specialist happens to live nearby, and usually they do not
  • Local in-home provision is the better choice for some students, and we say which
  • IB Gram delivers one-to-one over live video; UAE home visits are not offered

This page owes Al Mamsha a straight answer to that, because the usual argument against in-home tutoring does not apply here. In an inland villa community the case is easy: the drive is long, the traffic is bad, and a third of the hourly rate is travel. In a dense walkable district beside University City, a competent tutor genuinely could be in your living room in six minutes with no travel premium worth mentioning. So the honest case has to be made on something else.

It is made on the pool. The question is not whether somebody nearby can teach mathematics - several people certainly can. The question is whether the person who specialises in Physics at Higher Level, is free at 18:30 on a Tuesday, and lives within walking distance of this specific address exists. For most scarce combinations, they do not, and the family ends up choosing between proximity and specialism. Online delivery removes that choice, because the pool is national rather than local.

There are cases where the local option is better and we will say so. A primary-age child who needs attention managed, a student with a specific need that benefits from physical presence, a household with no reliable connection, or a family whose preference is simply for an adult in the room: for those, a nearby in-home tutor at the published AED 180-500 band is a reasonable choice, and it is especially reasonable in a district where the travel component of that rate should be minimal. Negotiate accordingly.

To be unambiguous: IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE, and nothing on this page should be read as an offer to send anyone to a Sharjah address. Home visiting is a service we offer only in India. What we provide here is one-to-one tuition over live video, with a shared screen and a board saved after each session, matched by subject and level rather than by postcode.

07

Supervision, authorship, and the line that does not move

  • Allowed: content teaching, criterion translation, evidence challenge, criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Not allowed: authoring any part of a submission, supplying results, rewriting to completion
  • Official papers, schemes and boundary tables are cited, never redistributed
  • Criterion literacy learned properly also lifts the written papers

Because so many requests from this district are for Extended Essay and Internal Assessment supervision, the boundary needs stating without softening. Assessed coursework must be the student's own work and the student signs a declaration confirming it. One of the pages competing for these searches sells finished Internal Assessments at a published price. Buying one is malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the candidate rather than the seller, which is sufficient reason to rule that provider out entirely.

Legitimate supervision is specific. A tutor can teach the underlying content, translate each assessment criterion into plain language, help narrow a research question until it is answerable inside the word limit, challenge whether a claim in a draft is actually supported by the evidence, point out that a data set carries no uncertainty treatment, and read a draft against the published criteria and name the weak criterion and why. For a scarce discipline, that explanation is often the entire value of the engagement.

What a tutor must not do is author any part of the submission - not a paragraph, not a methodology, not a conclusion, not a results set. We state this at the start of every supervision block and we state that anything the student did not write has to come out before submission. We also do not reproduce or supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables; we cite the official source and work from material the student legitimately holds through school.

There is a practical reason this matters beyond compliance. A student whose sections were written for them learns nothing about criterion literacy, which is the same skill that lifts their written papers. Supervision done properly transfers to the rest of the Diploma. A finished document transfers nothing and risks the whole candidature.

08

Starting, and claiming a scarce slot before the spring

Send the subject, the level, the board and the specific component if you already know it, which families in this district usually do. Add two recent pieces of marked work. From those we can tell you whether the combination is one we cover immediately, one with a short wait, or one that needs the wider pool, and we will say which before you commit to anything rather than after.

Then we match a specialist and run an introductory session at no charge - one per family, about thirty minutes, with the student present. For a scarce subject this half hour does a specific job: it checks that the tutor really handles the component you are buying them for, which a profile cannot demonstrate. If the match is wrong we change it rather than suggest giving it another week.

The timing advice for this district is unusually concrete. If you expect to need Higher Level support at any point in the academic year, secure the slot in the autumn term. Scarce specialists fill their calendars, and a slot that is unavailable in February cannot be created in February at any price. The published premium bands rise in exactly the weeks when families start looking, which is the market telling you the same thing.

If no UAE-based specialist is free we offer one from our wider pool, centred on India, including tutors who have taught these syllabuses to international cohorts for years. Delivery is unchanged because it was always online. The one real difference is familiarity with your school's internal deadlines, which the tutor takes from the student's own documents in the first session, and we will name that rather than gloss it.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Mamsha

Al Mamsha sits inside the Muwaileh and University City belt, where several distinct residential types are within a few minutes of each other. Each has a different demand profile.

Muwaileh

The surrounding district and the densest school cluster in the emirate. Demand here is broad rather than specialised, covering every stage from primary to Diploma, with the afternoon dismissal window shaping the timetable.

University City

Campuses and schools together, with many households containing an academic parent or an older sibling at university. Requests from here are the most component-specific we receive anywhere in Sharjah.

Al Zahia

Townhouses and apartments a short drive away, with good road access to the main school cluster. Families here typically ask for one or two subjects rather than broad support.

Aljada

A large mixed-use development with schooling on site and a younger resident profile. Demand skews to primary and lower MYP, and weekend morning slots are the first to go.

Al Suyoh

Villa plots spreading outward from the same corridor, where the school run is longer and the earliest workable weekday slot is later. Diploma students here benefit most from a travel-free arrangement.

Sharjah Garden City

Inland villa communities with multi-sibling households sharing one evening window. Staggered slots are the norm and the scarce Higher Level subject usually gets the protected time.

Al Khan

Coastal and central, with a more transient apartment population and a strong IGCSE enquiry pattern. Subject requests here are broader and less specialised than in this cluster.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Mamsha

Muwaileh and University City schools

This is the immediate cluster, and the one that generates most of the Higher Level requests on this page. Programme menus change between academic years, so confirm what a school currently offers with the school itself rather than relying on any third-party list.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • The American School of Creative Science, Sharjah
  • International School of Creative Science
  • Wesgreen International School
  • Delhi Private School Sharjah
  • Scholars International Academy

Central Sharjah schools

Students from this district who attend a central school accept a longer outbound run for a particular curriculum or board, which usually pushes their weekday session to a later slot and makes the online format more useful rather than less.

  • Sharjah English School
  • Emirates National School, Sharjah campus
  • GEMS Millennium School, Sharjah
  • Our Own English High School, Sharjah

School names appear only as context for the local education ecosystem. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the component, not just the subject

Families in this district usually can. Paper 3 technique, the quantitative Economics paper, criterion literacy on a science Internal Assessment: a specific brief gets a specific specialist and avoids paying a premium rate for general revision.

  2. 02

Ask us about coverage before anything else

We will tell you whether your combination is immediate, a one-to-two-week wait, or wider-pool only, and where that tutor is based. That answer should come before any discussion of price, because it determines what you are actually buying.

  3. 03

Send two marked pieces of work

A returned paper shows which component is losing marks in five minutes. For scarce specialists this matters doubly, because their time should be spent on the part of the course only they can address rather than on diagnosis.

  4. 04

Test the specialism at no charge

One introductory session per family, roughly thirty minutes, with the student present. The purpose is to confirm the tutor genuinely handles the component you need, which no profile demonstrates. If not, we change the tutor.

  5. 05

Claim the slot in the autumn

Scarce Higher Level specialists fill their calendars for the year. A slot secured in October is available in February; one sought in February often is not, at any price. This is the single most useful piece of planning advice on the page.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Coverage disclosed, not implied

We publish which combinations are deep, which carry a wait, and which need the wider pool, with the fallback named. No competitor in the researched set discloses a coverage limit, and several route UAE parents to a number in another country instead.

Specialism matched to the component

The tutor is chosen for the specific component you need addressed rather than for the subject label. That is how a scarce specialist's expensive hour produces mark movement instead of general revision at a premium rate.

The permit position stated accurately

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a MoHRE permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, free of charge for two years. We name the resolution and the official application route, and we hold no regulator approval ourselves.

Every figure attributed

The AED bands carry the source that published them and the month they were read. We publish no satisfaction percentages, student counts or ratings, because the underlying data for such claims cannot be produced.

Honest about where in-home wins

In a walkable district the travel argument against in-home tutoring is weak, so we do not use it. We name the cases where a nearby in-home tutor is the better choice and let the subject-pool argument stand on its own.

A supervision line that does not move

Criterion feedback on the student's own draft, with nothing authored on their behalf at any stage. Stated plainly because a provider competing for these searches sells finished coursework and the consequence falls on the candidate.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mamsha: your questions answered

Which subjects are hardest to find a tutor for in Sharjah?+

Physics at Higher Level is the hardest, and hardest of all in the eight weeks before a written series. Then Economics at Higher Level with the quantitative paper, Computer Science at any level, Theory of Knowledge, and Extended Essay supervision in minority disciplines. By contrast IGCSE Mathematics and the separate sciences are deeply staffed and can usually be matched within days. If you expect to need one of the scarce combinations during the year, secure the slot in the autumn term, because a specialist unavailable in February cannot be created in February.

Should my child choose Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation?+

It should follow their attainment profile and their likely university route, not which sounds easier. Analysis rewards algebraic manipulation and formal proof; Applications rewards modelling and statistics with technology use explicitly assessed. Neither is soft, and students who pick Applications expecting an easy ride frequently do worse than they would have on Analysis. Engineering, mathematics and physics routes commonly expect Analysis at Higher Level, but the only reliable method is reading the entry requirements of the specific programmes your child may apply to, in DP1.

Which maths course do UAE universities expect for engineering?+

Engineering programmes commonly expect the Analysis and Approaches route at Higher Level, and some state it explicitly, but requirements differ between institutions and between programmes within one institution. This page will not give you a single answer because the accurate one is on each university's own admissions page. Read those in DP1 rather than DP2, because by DP2 the mathematics route is effectively fixed and changing it is disruptive. We can tell you which route the student's own marks point to; the admissions requirement is a document to check.

How long is the IB Extended Essay allowed to be?+

It is commonly specified at 4,000 words, and examiners are instructed not to read beyond the limit, which means anything after it is effectively unwritten. The practical implication is that the research question matters more than the prose. A question that cannot be answered in 4,000 words produces an essay that runs over and then gets cut, and cutting removes evidence rather than padding. Narrowing the question in the first supervision session is the single highest-value thing a supervisor does. Confirm the current limit against your school's subject guide.

What are the word limits for the Theory of Knowledge essay and the IA?+

The Theory of Knowledge essay is commonly specified at 1,600 words, with material beyond the limit not assessed. Internal Assessment lengths vary by subject: mathematics explorations are commonly guided at around 12 to 20 pages and science reports at around 6 to 12, with individuals and societies subjects carrying their own word counts. Because these are revised between syllabus cycles, treat any figure as a prompt to check the current subject guide your school is working to rather than as a substitute for checking it.

Who is legally allowed to give private lessons in the UAE?+

Anyone holding a MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The permit is granted free of charge for two years and is applied for through MoHRE's smart app, website or e-services, with a two-working-day completion time listed. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published.

Can a university student in Sharjah legally tutor my child?+

Yes, if they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit; university students are explicitly listed among eligible applicants, as are school students aged 15 to 18. The legal question and the pedagogical question are separate, though. Published market rates put student and graduate tutors at the AED 45-150 band, and what that generally buys is homework supervision and content revision rather than exam technique at a named level. For a scarce Higher Level component it is usually the wrong purchase regardless of the permit position.

Does my child's own school teacher need a permit to tutor privately?+

Yes, and there is a second issue beyond the permit. Teachers registered at government or private schools are eligible for the MoHRE permit, but a teacher tutoring their own enrolled students is a separate matter: Abu Dhabi's regulator has professional-ethics rules barring school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the permit carries a code of conduct addressing the same point. Treat that as press-reported and verify against the current policy document. In practice, do not seek out your child's own teacher privately.

Why does a Physics HL tutor cost more than a Maths SL tutor?+

Supply, almost entirely. Published rates read in October 2026 put specialist IB and IGCSE tutors at AED 200-450 and above, and premium named tutors at AED 500-650 and above, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor. Physics at Higher Level sits in the scarce band because the pool is small and demand concentrates into the same eight weeks every year. The efficient response is not to avoid the premium but to use the specialist for a short block on one component rather than for a year of weekly sessions.

Al Mamsha is walkable, so why not just use a tutor from the next building?+

It is a fair question and the usual travel argument does not apply here. The constraint is not distance, it is whether the person who specialises in the exact combination you need happens to live nearby. For IGCSE Mathematics, someone almost certainly does. For Physics at Higher Level, free at 18:30 on a Tuesday, usually nobody within walking distance. Online delivery removes the choice between proximity and specialism. For a younger child who needs attention managed, a nearby in-home tutor at the published AED 180-500 band is a reasonable alternative.

What happens if the only specialist available is outside the UAE?+

We tell you that before you commit, which no competitor in the researched set does. The fallback is a specialist from our wider pool, centred on India, including tutors who have taught these syllabuses to international cohorts for years. Delivery is identical because it was always one-to-one over live video, and the time zone usually suits a Gulf evening slot. The one real difference is familiarity with your school's internal coursework deadlines, which the tutor takes from the student's own documents in the first session.

Can we switch Higher Level maths courses after DP1 has started?+

Some schools permit it and all find it disruptive, because the two courses diverge quickly and the work already done does not transfer cleanly. The decision sits with the school, which knows its timetable and its cohort. If a switch is genuinely needed, earlier in DP1 is far better than later, and the trigger to watch for is a student who understands the material but cannot finish extended written answers in time across more than one subject, which signals total load rather than a wrong mathematics choice.

Is Applications and Interpretation an easier option than Analysis and Approaches?+

No, and treating it as the soft route is how students end up with a worse grade than they would have had on Analysis. Applications assesses modelling, statistics and technology use, and the technology element is explicit, so a student who avoids their calculator's statistical functions loses marks they never attempted. It suits students with strong arithmetic reasoning and weaker formal algebra. Analysis suits the reverse profile. The question to ask is which matches your child's actual attainment, not which has the lighter reputation.

How many hours of Extended Essay supervision is reasonable?+

Fewer than families expect, if the hours are placed correctly. The high-value sessions are at the beginning, narrowing the research question until it is answerable in 4,000 words, and at the draft stage, reading the draft against the published criteria and naming the weak criterion. Between those, the student should be working alone. Four to six sessions across the project is a common shape. A tutor must not author any part of it; the argument, the sources and the words remain the student's own throughout.

Do you cover Computer Science and Design Technology at Diploma level?+

Computer Science yes, with notice, and usually through our wider pool because the UAE-based specialist market for it is thin at every level. The Internal Assessment is a developed solution with its own documentation requirements, so the match needs someone who has supervised one rather than someone who can simply program. Design Technology is more constrained and depends on the specific component; ask and we will tell you honestly whether we can cover it rather than accept the booking and work it out afterwards.

Ask about availability first

For a household in this district the useful first question is not price but coverage. Tell us the subject, the level, the board and the component if you know it, and we will say whether that combination is immediate, carries a short wait, or needs a specialist from our wider pool, and where that tutor is based. Then we test the match in an introductory session at no charge, one per family, with the student present. If you expect to need Higher Level support this year, claim the slot in the autumn. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video.
