IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Juraina

Searching for an IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Juraina usually ends with a quote and no way to judge it. This page works the other way round - cheapest option first. What your child's school already owes you for nothing, when a budget tutor is genuinely sufficient, the point at which a subject specialist stops being optional, and what each step up the ladder costs in dirhams at current Sharjah market rates. Our own lessons are one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Al Juraina

Start at the bottom of the ladder, not the top

Al Juraina families are not short of tutoring options. Central Sharjah has tuition centres, independent tutors, agency lists and a long word-of-mouth network, and the quotes range from about AED 45 an hour to more than AED 650. What is missing is a way to decide which rung of that ladder a particular child actually needs.

The default behaviour is to jump straight to the most expensive thing the household can afford, on the reasonable theory that a problem with a child's education deserves the best available. The outcome is often disappointing, not because the tutor was poor but because the problem on the table did not need that tutor. A student who has not been doing past papers does not need a premium specialist; they need past papers and somebody to mark them honestly.

So this page is organised as a ladder, cheapest first. At the bottom are things that cost nothing and that most families never request: the marked mock script, the department's view of weak topics, the published syllabus document, the school's own revision sessions. Above that, peer study and group classes. Then budget online tutoring at AED 45 to 150 an hour. Then a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300. Then in-home at AED 180 to 500, where the premium is travel. At the top, branded tutoring at AED 500 to 650 and above.

The method is to climb only when the rung below has demonstrably failed or cannot address the problem. Some problems skip rungs legitimately: an IB internal assessment needs somebody who knows the criteria, and no amount of group revision substitutes. Exam technique in a higher level subject is similar. Knowing which problems those are is most of what this page is for.

Our own position on the ladder is the qualified-specialist rung, delivered online, which is the step most families should reach and the one many skip past in both directions. We publish the market bands with their source and the month they were read so that any quote - ours included - can be measured. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India, so no travel sits inside our rate.

A note on why the ladder is worth following in order even when a household can afford to skip it. Spending at the top rung on a problem the bottom rung would have solved teaches a student that the solution comes from outside, which is the opposite of what the Diploma rewards. The cheapest rungs - the marked script, the published criteria, timed practice - are also the ones that build independence, and that is worth more over two years than any hourly rate.

The sections below work through the rungs, then deal with splitting one budget across two systems, the small print that quietly costs money, and the handful of things that are a bad purchase at any price.

At a glance

  • Free first: the marked script, the department's view, the syllabus document
  • Budget tutoring at AED 45-150 is genuinely sufficient for some jobs
  • Internal assessment and higher level technique skip to the specialist rung
  • The in-home premium of AED 180-500 buys travel, not teaching
  • All our UAE lessons are one-to-one over live video
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The three programmes a household here might be running sit at different heights on the ladder, because they fail in different ways and need different kinds of help.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-assessed against task-specific descriptors, with each task marked once. Much of what goes wrong here is addressable at the free rung: read the descriptors with the student before the task. Where paid help is needed, three or four short sessions aimed at one criterion is the right size of purchase.

Families in central Sharjah often buy long-running homework support at this stage because tuition centres are close and convenient. The test is whether the criterion scores have moved. If nobody is measuring, the arrangement has become a habit rather than an intervention.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, internal assessments marked against published criteria, plus Theory of Knowledge and an extended essay. This is the programme that most often requires the specialist rung, because criterion-based assessed work and higher level technique are not addressable by group revision or by a generalist.

Sharjah has few schools authorised for the Diploma Programme, so local specialist supply is thin and in-home quotes for DP subjects sit at the top of the market range. Matching online removes the scarcity premium as well as the travel one.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Terminal papers with published mark schemes. A surprising amount of what is bought expensively here is available cheaply: past papers exist, the mark schemes exist, and a disciplined student with an honest marker can recover a great deal. The specialist rung earns its money on technique, triage and the final block.

UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February/March Cambridge series is offered in India only. Pearson runs May/June and November, with the November final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026 and results reaching students in January.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

IB subjects first, each with a note on which rung of the ladder it usually needs. The honest answer is not always the most expensive one.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Standard level problems often respond to disciplined practice with any competent marker. Higher level proof and calculus, and the exploration, are specialist work - the exploration in particular, because a badly chosen question costs a term that no later teaching recovers.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Interpretation questions are coachable by a good generalist; the higher level statistics content is not, and students who chose this course expecting the lighter option usually discover that in the second term.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Content revision can start cheap. The investigation cannot: variables, uncertainty and a workable method need somebody who has read the criteria, and the planning stage is where a few specialist hours save a great many later.

Physics

HL and SL

Problem practice is cheap and effective if somebody insists on written method. Fields and multi-step problems at higher level reward a specialist, as does the investigation's uncertainty treatment, which is the most commonly neglected criterion.

Biology

HL and SL

The cheapest intervention in the subject is retrieval practice on older content, which needs no expertise at all. Data-based questions and statistical treatment in the investigation are where paid hours earn their keep.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy can be drilled by anyone with the syllabus in hand. The three commentaries need a specialist's eye on whether one section of the syllabus is being applied tightly to one article, which is where most marks are lost.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Reading more is free and insufficient. Timed analysis annotated against the criteria is the activity that moves marks, and the individual oral - an event with a date - needs rehearsing with somebody who knows what the criteria reward.

Theory of Knowledge and the extended essay

Core components

Cheap if bought as fortnightly short check-ins with named deliverables; expensive if left until DP2 and bought as emergency hours. Nothing here involves a tutor writing anything, at any price.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The British-track side, with the same question applied: how cheaply can this be fixed, and where does that stop being true?

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Timed past papers with honest marking will carry a motivated student a long way without a specialist. The tier decision and the final block are where expertise pays, because triage requires knowing what to abandon.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended · Single tier at Edexcel

The alternative-to-practical paper is the clearest case for a specialist in the whole British track: it needs somebody who knows what the mark scheme wants from a method description, and it is teachable in three or four sessions.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations respond to practice. The language precision the extended paper demands - observations rather than conclusions, conditions rather than gestures - needs somebody who has marked the papers.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Content is memorisable without help. Command-word discipline is not obvious to a student and not usually taught by a generalist, which makes it the best value specialist hour in the subject.

First Language English (0500)

Single tier

Among the most responsive subjects to specialist marking, because directed writing improves quickly when annotated against the scheme by somebody who knows it. Free alternative: the published mark scheme and a ruthless parent, which works less often than it sounds.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Single tier

Specialist work from the start. The notation and the pace defeat generalists, and the subject is hard to staff at a weekday hour, so it should be booked early rather than when it becomes urgent.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy, arranged by cost. All are one-to-one over live video and all start with a free trial lesson at no cost and with no card details.

A single diagnostic session

The cheapest paid purchase that produces something durable: one session in which a specialist reads a marked script, names what is costing marks and writes down what the remaining weeks can change. Some families take that away and act on it themselves, which is a legitimate outcome.

  • One session, no commitment to a term
  • Written diagnosis you keep
  • Often enough for a self-disciplined student

A finite repair block

Two to four sessions on one named weakness - a topic, a criterion, a paper technique - with a diagnostic question set before the first and an explicit end. The right purchase when the report is broadly fine but one thing keeps costing marks.

  • Named target and a fixed number of sessions
  • Ends when the target is met, not when the term does
  • Cheapest way to buy specialist expertise

Fortnightly, converting to a block

The lowest-cost sustainable pattern for a two-year Diploma: fortnightly through quiet terms to hold pace and reserve a scarce tutor, converting to weekly or twice-weekly where the calendar demands it. Costs materially less than weekly support across both years.

  • Fortnightly in quiet terms, weekly in deadline blocks
  • Reserves a scarce specialist at low cost
  • Reviewed each term against the school's dates

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Juraina

01

Rung one: what the school already owes you, for nothing

  • The marked mock script, not just the grade
  • The department's view on weak topics and the right tier or level
  • The IB coordinator's internal deadline calendar
  • The current syllabus document and access to past papers
  • The school's own free revision sessions

Before any money is spent, there is a set of things your child's school holds that most families never request. All of them are free, all of them are reasonable to ask for, and together they frequently change what needs buying.

The marked mock script comes first. A grade tells you there is a problem; the script tells you which problem. Some schools keep papers for departmental review and return only the mark, in which case a polite request usually produces the paper or a photograph. Without it, every subsequent decision is a guess, including the decision about how much to spend.

Then the department's view. A head of subject can usually say in two sentences which topics a particular student is weak on and whether their tier or level is appropriate. For an IB student, the coordinator can supply the internal deadline calendar - submission dates per subject, extended essay checkpoints, the Theory of Knowledge deadline - which is the single most useful planning document in the programme and is almost never requested.

Finally, the published material. The syllabus document for your child's course is issued by the school and is the authoritative version. Past papers and mark schemes are available through the school. Many schools also run their own revision sessions before a series, free, and attendance is often patchy because nobody at home knew they existed. Ask. It costs an email and sometimes removes the need for a purchase entirely.

02

The ladder, with prices

Having exhausted the free rung, the paid options form a reasonably clear sequence. The prices below are market figures from published UAE rate cards and from Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost table, read in October 2026 - not our price list.

Peer study and group classes come next. A tuition centre class is the cheapest paid content teaching available per student, and it is the right purchase when a cohort shares a weakness. What it cannot do is keep an individual error log or review one student's script, which is why group revision courses before a series often feel busy and change little.

Budget online tutoring starts around AED 45 an hour. For homework supervision, routine-building and working through practice questions, a capable undergraduate is genuinely sufficient, and many hold the MoHRE private tuition permit the law requires. What this band rarely includes is someone who has taught a specific course to final-grade standard.

One caution about the budget rung: the tutor may change between sessions on some platforms, which quietly removes most of the value. Continuity is what lets anybody see a pattern in a student's errors, so if the person is different each week, you are buying supervision rather than teaching, and you should price it accordingly.

The qualified specialist rung, AED 150 to 300 an hour online, is where course experience becomes reliable: marking to published schemes or criteria, naming the three things costing marks, and triaging a final block. Above it, in-home at AED 180 to 500 adds travel, and branded tutoring at AED 500 to 650 and above adds reputation plus an examiner claim that is rarely evidenced. Climb only when the rung below cannot do the job in front of you.

03

When budget tutoring is genuinely enough

It is worth being specific about this, because most pages in this market have an interest in implying that cheap help is always a false economy. It is not.

A capable undergraduate at AED 45 to 150 an hour can supervise homework reliably, keep a routine for a student who will not work alone, work through practice questions a teacher has selected, and explain content that was taught badly or missed through absence. For a Year 9 student, or for a Middle Years child who needs company and structure rather than expertise, that is often the correct purchase - and buying a specialist instead is overpaying for capability that is not being used.

Where the band fails is anything that requires knowing the assessment. An internal assessment marked against criteria by letter. The decision about which topics to abandon in a ten-week block. The precise language the extended chemistry paper rewards. The alternative-to-practical technique. In each of those, a well-meaning generalist teaches the wrong thing competently, and the family discovers it from the next mock rather than from the tutor.

There is a hybrid worth considering. A single specialist diagnostic session produces a list of specific weaknesses and a set of practice tasks; a budget tutor can then supervise the work through them. That combination costs far less than a term of specialist hours and works well for a student whose problem is partly discipline and partly direction.

A useful test before buying at this band: write down what you expect to be different in six weeks. If the answer is 'the homework gets done and they feel less anxious', the budget rung is appropriate. If it is 'the Paper 4 mark improves' or 'criterion C is no longer the weakest', it is not.

04

Where the specialist rung becomes unavoidable

  • Criterion-marked assessed work needs somebody who has read the criteria
  • Higher level paper technique needs somebody who has marked those papers
  • Triage in a final block is a judgement, not an effort question
  • Narrow subjects are effectively unavailable locally at any price

Some problems cannot be solved from a lower rung, however disciplined the family is. Recognising them early saves money, because the usual pattern is to spend a term at the wrong rung first.

The clearest case is criterion-based assessed work. An IB internal assessment, an extended essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay is marked against published descriptors, and help is only useful if the person giving it has read them. A generalist will improve the writing and leave the criterion unaddressed, which is the most expensive kind of near-miss: effort spent, marks unchanged.

The second is higher level subject technique. At higher level, the gap between knowing the content and scoring on the paper is widest, and closing it requires somebody who has marked those papers. The third is triage under time pressure: deciding, eight weeks out, which topics to abandon is a judgement that needs course experience, and getting it wrong wastes the whole block.

The fourth is the narrow subject nobody local teaches. Additional Mathematics 0606, computer science with its pseudocode conventions, a higher level language - for these, the local market around Al Juraina offers very little at any price, and matching nationally over video is not a preference but the only way the request gets filled at all.

In each of these four cases, the cost of being at the wrong rung is not just the fee. It is the term spent discovering the mismatch, usually confirmed by the next mock or the returned draft, at a point in the year when there is no spare time to start again. That is the real argument for recognising them early.

05

One budget, two systems: how to split it

A household with an IB student and an IGCSE candidate has one budget and two different optimal spending patterns, which is where most allocation errors come from.

The IB child needs hours earlier and spread, because internal assessments and core components cannot be rescued late and because a content gap closed in DP1 costs a fraction of the same gap closed in DP2. The IGCSE candidate needs hours later and concentrated, because the grade is made in the examination room and a dense block of timed papers before the series has the clearest relationship to marks of anything available.

Splitting equally therefore produces two suboptimal plans. A more effective allocation gives the IB child a modest continuous presence - fortnightly, plus short core-component check-ins - and the IGCSE candidate a light touch through the year with a concentrated block at the end. At the middle of the qualified online band, that shape typically costs less than two weekly arrangements and does more.

Timing within the year matters as much as the split. If both children need hours in the same eight weeks, book the scarcer specialist first - usually the Diploma subject teacher - because the British-track request is easier to fill at short notice. Leaving both to the peak means competing for the same narrow supply with every other family in central Sharjah.

One further point about fairness. Children notice allocation, and a younger sibling who sees their brother getting twice the hours draws conclusions. Explaining the reasoning - that their own hours will come later, concentrated, for the same reason - removes most of that. It is a small conversation that prevents a persistent resentment.

06

The small print that quietly costs money

Once a rate is agreed, several commercial details decide whether the arrangement is good value in practice. All of them are easier to raise before any money moves.

Ask whether the quoted figure includes VAT, and for a registration number if a provider says it is registered. We will not state how UAE tax treats tuition fees on this page, because that belongs to the Federal Tax Authority rather than to a tutoring site; what a parent can expect is clarity about whether the number quoted is the number payable.

Then the mechanics. Is the rate per hour or per lesson, and how long is a lesson? A sixty-minute hour and a forty-five-minute lesson at the same price are different products. What notice does a cancellation require, and what happens to unused sessions in a package? If a package is discounted, what is the position if you want to reduce frequency mid-term? Packages are a reasonable way to buy and a poor way to stay flexible.

Finally, who teaches and what is recorded. Will the tutor change between sessions? What happens if the match is wrong - a provider with a pool can replace and carry the plan across, while an individual arrangement means starting again. And is there a written target list and a note after each session? Without those, renewal happens on impression rather than on evidence, which in this market usually means on how likeable the tutor was.

The four things worth nothing at any price

  • Grade guarantees and outcome-linked refunds
  • Completed internal assessments, extended essays and coursework
  • Claimed approval or accreditation from a regulator or board
  • Star ratings with no countable, dated reviews behind them

Some purchases in this market are bad at AED 45 and worse at AED 650, because the problem is not the price.

A grade guarantee. Nobody can know what a particular candidate will score, so a promised 7, a points total or a specific improvement is a sales instrument. Where a refund is attached, read the trigger conditions - in practice they are usually unreachable. We do not offer guarantees of any kind.

Completed assessed work. Services selling finished internal assessments, extended essays, Theory of Knowledge essays and coursework appear in these search results at prices in the thousands of dirhams. The malpractice finding lands on the student's diploma, not on the seller's accounts. A tutor may teach, question and give feedback on the student's own work, and nothing beyond that. IB Gram sells no completed work.

Reproduced board material sold as an exclusive resource. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, and your child's school is the proper route to the current versions. A drive full of 'exclusive' material is somebody else's copyright, and where the material is unreleased it is a malpractice question attached to your child.

Claimed regulator approval, and self-asserted ratings. No tutoring service should describe itself as approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB or Cambridge unless it holds that specific permit and can produce the number. For clarity about us: IB Gram is a tutor-matching platform with no UAE premises and no approval or accreditation from any education authority in this country. And a star rating with no countable, dated reviews behind it is decoration, not evidence.

08

Climbing down: when to stop paying

Almost no page in this market discusses ending an arrangement, which is strange, because knowing when to stop is as valuable as knowing when to start and considerably cheaper.

The simplest signal is the target. If the arrangement began to fix a named weakness - electrolysis, directed writing, criterion C - and that weakness no longer shows in timed work, the arrangement has done its job. Continuing is buying reassurance, which is a legitimate purchase if it is a conscious one and a waste if it is a drift.

The second signal is substitution. If a student has stopped working independently because a tutor will cover it on Tuesday, the hours are displacing the thing that actually produces marks. A good tutor notices this and reduces frequency; a provider paid by the hour has no incentive to mention it. Ask the tutor directly whether the student is doing enough alone.

A fourth signal is seasonal rather than individual. If a block was bought for a dated assessment and the assessment has passed, the arrangement should end by default and be restarted deliberately if needed. Rolling straight on is how a ten-week block becomes a two-year subscription that nobody chose.

The third is the review point. We check at six sessions on timed scores and criterion feedback, and we are willing to say that a target has been met or that a different shape would work better - fortnightly instead of weekly, a weekend morning instead of two tired evenings, or nothing for a term. A provider who has never recommended stopping is not reviewing anything, and that is worth noticing wherever you buy.

Where we tutor

Where each rung of the ladder exists around Al Juraina

Central and southern Sharjah areas, read for supply at each price point rather than for distance.

University City

Where the AED 45 to 150 band comes from. Capable undergraduates, often holding the free MoHRE private tuition permit, suitable for homework supervision and practice sessions rather than for criterion-based assessed work.

Al Qasimia

Tuition centres and independent tutors in quantity, mostly in the middle of the market. The closest place to find a group class, which is the right purchase for a shared content weakness.

Al Majaz

The deepest local pool and the source of most premium word-of-mouth quotes here. Also the first area to be fully booked in the weeks before a series, which is when its prices are least negotiable.

Al Khan

Overlapping supply with Al Juraina and short journeys, so in-home quotes from here carry the smallest travel component available locally.

Muwaileh

A separate cluster to the east. Tutors travelling from here price the Maliha Road drive into an in-home rate, which is the clearest illustration of what the premium actually is.

Al Nahda, Sharjah

Dubai-facing, where some families buy Dubai tutoring at Dubai prices. Online, a Dubai-based specialist costs no more to reach than a Sharjah one, which removes that premium entirely.

Abu Shagara

Dense, with heavy Indian-curriculum school provision nearby and plenty of mid-market supply. Board identification matters here before any money is spent.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Juraina

Schools near Al Juraina and the Maliha Road

Long-established provision across several curricula. These schools hold most of the free resources this page recommends asking for: marked scripts, departmental views on weak topics, syllabus documents and internal deadline calendars.

  • Delhi Private School Sharjah
  • Our Own English High School, Sharjah
  • GEMS Millennium School Sharjah

IB and wider Sharjah schools families travel to

Diploma provision in the emirate is concentrated, so an IB student here has both the longest commute in the household and the thinnest local tutoring market - the combination that makes the specialist rung unavoidable rather than optional.

  • Wesgreen International School
  • The American School of Creative Science, Sharjah

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Exhaust the free rung first

Ask the school for the marked script, the department's view on weak topics, the internal deadline calendar for an IB student, and the dates of any free revision sessions. We will ask you for the script anyway, and sometimes that conversation changes what needs buying.

  2. 02

Tell us the problem, not the subject

Programme, code or level, and what specifically is going wrong - a topic, a criterion, a paper, a deadline. That lets us propose the smallest purchase that could work rather than a weekly slot by default.

  3. 03

Free trial, with the script marked first

A full one-to-one lesson over live video with the tutor who would be assigned, no payment and no card details. The script is read beforehand so the hour is diagnosis, and you keep the annotated paper and the written view whether or not you continue.

  4. 04

Review at six sessions, including stopping

We look at timed scores and criterion feedback rather than attendance. If the target is met we say so. If a different shape would work better - fortnightly, a weekend morning, or a pause - we say that too, which is the part of the ladder most providers leave out.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The cheap options named first

The free rung - marked scripts, departmental views, deadline calendars, the school's own revision sessions - is listed before anything we sell. A family that fixes a problem there has lost nothing by reading this page, which is the test of whether advice is advice.

Market bands with sources

Every AED figure here carries the month it was read. Three of the six top-ranked pages in our research publish no price at all and two of the rest quote in dollars, so comparison is impossible against most of this market.

The smallest purchase that works

Sometimes that is a single diagnostic session or a three-session repair block with an end date. We will propose it rather than a term, because an arrangement that never ends is a product and not a plan.

No travel inside the rate

Lessons are one-to-one over live video, so the whole fee buys teaching. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE - that service exists only in India - which also removes the scarcity premium on Diploma subjects in this emirate.

We will tell you to stop

At the six-session review we are willing to say a target has been met, that frequency should drop, or that a student needs to work alone for a term. A provider who never recommends stopping is not reviewing anything.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Juraina: your questions answered

What is the cheapest thing that might fix my child's grade?+

Usually something free that nobody has asked for. The marked mock script tells you which problem you have rather than that you have one. The head of department can name the weak topics and say whether the tier or level is right. For an IB student, the coordinator's internal deadline calendar is the most useful planning document in the programme. Many schools also run free revision sessions before a series that families never hear about. Exhaust those before paying anybody, including us.

Is a university-student tutor at AED 45 to 150 an hour a false economy?+

Not always, and it is worth being specific. A capable undergraduate can supervise homework, hold a routine, work through practice questions and re-explain content missed through absence - and many hold the MoHRE private tuition permit the law requires. That band fails at anything requiring knowledge of the assessment: criterion-marked internal assessments, higher level technique, deciding what to abandon in a final block. Write down what you expect to be different in six weeks, and the right rung becomes obvious.

When does a specialist stop being optional for an IB student?+

At the internal assessment, and at higher level paper technique. Assessed work is marked against published criteria by letter, and help is only useful from somebody who has read them - a generalist improves the prose and leaves the criterion unaddressed, which costs effort and changes nothing. Higher level subjects have the widest gap between knowing content and scoring on the paper. Add triage in a final block, which is a judgement that needs course experience, and narrow subjects nobody local teaches.

How should we split one tutoring budget between two children on different systems?+

Not equally, because the systems need hours at different times. The IB child needs them earlier and spread, since internal assessments and core components cannot be rescued late and a DP1 gap costs a fraction of a DP2 one. The IGCSE candidate needs them later and concentrated, because the grade is made in the examination room. At the middle of the qualified online band, around thirty spread hours plus check-ins for the IB child and twenty-two concentrated hours for the other costs about AED 10,400 a year - less than two weekly arrangements.

Are group revision courses before exams worth the money?+

For a shared content weakness, yes, and they are the cheapest paid teaching per student. For an individual problem, no: a group cannot keep one student's error log, review the script they wrote, or decide that this candidate should skip a topic and drill another. That is why group courses before a series often feel busy and change little - the student who needed three sessions on one topic sat through six hours covering everything. Match the purchase to whether the problem is shared or individual.

What is the smallest sensible amount of specialist tutoring to buy?+

A single diagnostic session, which produces a marked script, a named list of what is costing marks and a written view of what the remaining weeks can change. Some families act on that themselves and buy nothing further, which is a legitimate outcome. After that, a two-to-four session repair block on one named weakness, with a diagnostic question set before the first session and an explicit end, is the cheapest way to buy real expertise without committing to a term.

Does the in-home premium ever make sense for a family here?+

Yes, for one group: younger children who need an adult beside them to stay on task, where presence is the thing being bought rather than expertise. For a Year 11 candidate or a Diploma student working through papers, the premium - roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 online - buys a journey along the Maliha Road and nothing academic. We do not offer UAE home visits in any case, so if presence is your real problem we are not the right provider.

What should I ask about packages before paying for one?+

Four things. Whether the quoted figure includes VAT, and a registration number if the provider claims to be registered. Whether the rate is per hour or per lesson, and how long a lesson is - forty-five minutes at an hourly price is a price rise. What notice a cancellation needs, applied in both directions. And what happens to unused sessions, and whether you can reduce frequency mid-term. Packages are a reasonable way to buy and a poor way to stay flexible.

What tells us an arrangement has done its job and should end?+

When the named target no longer shows up in timed work, the arrangement has done its job - continuing is buying reassurance, which is fine if it is a decision and wasteful if it is drift. Watch also for substitution: if your child has stopped working alone because a tutor will cover it on Tuesday, the hours are displacing the activity that produces marks. We review at six sessions and will say that a target is met or that frequency should drop.

Is a branded or examiner-led tutor worth AED 500 an hour or more?+

Rarely, and the claim is the part to interrogate. Examiner status is seldom evidenced, cannot be relied upon to be current, and gives no access to marking, boundaries or paper content - the mark scheme a good tutor works from is published. What the premium reliably buys is scarcity and reputation. If a tutor at AED 200 an hour can name the three things costing your child marks from a script, the additional AED 300 is buying something other than that diagnosis.

Can a tutor finish an internal assessment if we pay enough?+

No, at any price, and a service that offers to is selling your child a malpractice risk. Permitted help is substantial: reading the criteria together, narrowing a research question so the available data can answer it, teaching the method or statistics required, and explaining which criterion a draft fails. Writing, redrafting or editing the submitted text is not permitted, and IB Gram does not sell completed work. The consequence attaches to the student's diploma rather than to the seller.

Why do so few tutoring sites in the UAE publish prices?+

Because publishing invites comparison, and comparison is awkward when the premium in a model is travel or branding rather than teaching. In our competitor research, three of the six best-ranked pages published no figure at all, two of the remaining ones quoted in US dollars - a currency UAE families do not transact in - and one asked the price in its own FAQ and declined to answer it. We publish market bands with their source and month so any quote, ours included, can be measured against something.

Does a tutor working in Al Juraina need a permit?+

Yes. The private tutor work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published - so disregard any amount quoted at you.

Which exam series will each of my children sit?+

For the British track, Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates - the February/March series is offered in India only - and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November, with November results reaching students in January. For the IB, UAE schools sit the May session, but we publish no IB dates here because we could not verify them from the IB itself; your school's coordinator holds the confirmed dates. Use the zone timetable your exams officer issues for Cambridge papers.

Buy the smallest thing that could work

Start with the free rung: ask the school for the marked script, the weak-topic view, the internal deadline calendar and the dates of any free revision sessions. Then tell us the problem rather than the subject - a topic, a criterion, a paper, a deadline - and we will propose the smallest purchase that addresses it, which is sometimes a single diagnostic session. The trial lesson is free, one-to-one over live video, taught by the tutor who would be assigned, and you keep the marked script either way. No travel sits inside our rate.
