IB Home Tutor in Al Suyoh

Hiring an IB home tutor in Al Suyoh is a budget decision before it is an academic one, and the budget is usually set in months rather than hours. A Diploma subject taken weekly for a term costs a predictable amount; the same subject bought in a panic eight weeks before the May session costs considerably more for less. This page sets out the monthly bands families in this part of Sharjah encounter, where the money stops reaching the teaching, and how IB Gram's online one-to-one delivery changes the sum.

IB & IGCSE in Al Suyoh

The monthly number, not the hourly one

Parents searching for an IB home tutor in Al Suyoh almost always start with an hourly rate and almost always budget in months. Those are different questions and conflating them is how families overspend. An hourly figure of AED 220 sounds manageable until it becomes two subjects a week across a Diploma year, at which point the household is committing to a four-figure monthly line for twenty months. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates put weekly one-hour sessions at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget tier, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Start there and the decisions get sharper.

Al Suyoh is inland Sharjah, a plotted residential district off the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road corridor with Al Tai and Muwaileh to its north and the Maliha Road running south. It is a car-dependent area where almost every child travels out to school, and that geography has a direct effect on tutoring cost. A tutor willing to drive here is pricing a round trip into the hour. A tutor who does not need to drive here is not. The difference shows up in the monthly total rather than in the headline rate, which is why the headline rate is the wrong place to compare.

IB Gram delivers tutoring to Al Suyoh families as one-to-one lessons over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the Sharjah school day. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home visiting exists only in India, and this page would be useless if it pretended otherwise. What the online format buys is the travel hour back and a tutor pool that is not limited to whoever is prepared to drive out to a plotted suburb on a Tuesday evening.

What follows is the arithmetic a family here would otherwise have to reconstruct from quotes. The market's published monthly packages and hourly bands with their sources. The parts of a quote that are not teaching. The honest cost of an in-home visit expressed as what the premium buys. How many hours a Diploma subject actually absorbs over two years, so you can tell whether a proposed schedule is sensible or merely expensive. And the two checks worth running on any tutor before money changes hands, neither of which costs anything.

One framing is worth stating before the numbers start. Tutoring is one of the few education costs a family controls completely. School fees are set by the school and approved by the emirate's authority; exam entry fees are set by the centre; the timetable is set by somebody else entirely. Tutoring is the line a household can shape to the month, which makes it worth shaping deliberately rather than by reaction. Every figure below is quoted from the source that published it, and none of them is a price of ours. Where this page recommends spending less, it is because less, spent earlier, reliably buys more in this market.

At a glance

  • Budget per month across a term, not per hour across a lesson
  • Monthly packages reported in this market: around AED 799 online for eight sessions, AED 1,599-1,799 in-home for four two-hour visits
  • In-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180-350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 by independent home tutors
  • A qualified subject tutor online is quoted at roughly AED 150-300, Unitors from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid two years, so a tutor without one has no cost excuse
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost changes by stage more than parents expect, because the assessment load changes. These three IB stages produce most Al Suyoh enquiries, with what each one actually absorbs in tutoring hours.

PYPAges 3-12

IB Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led and transdisciplinary, with no external examinations. Tutoring at this stage is usually about a specific gap, most often reading fluency, number sense or written structure, and it should be short and finite rather than a standing weekly commitment. A PYP family buying a year of weekly sessions is usually buying reassurance rather than progress.

Al Suyoh households with primary-age children often start tutoring because a move between curricula exposed a gap, which is a six-to-ten session problem rather than an ongoing one. The budget question here is straightforward: agree an endpoint before the first lesson, and expect the tutor to tell you when the gap has closed.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Marked against four criteria, A to D, on eight-point scales in each subject group. Costs stay modest through MYP 1 to 3 and rise at MYP 4 and 5, when the Personal Project lands and the written demands start resembling the Diploma's. A report reading 4-5-3-4 is a clearer brief for a tutor than any percentage, because it names which criterion is weak.

For an Al Suyoh family planning a Diploma, MYP 4 and 5 is the cheapest place to spend tutoring money, because fixing written structure and command-term discipline here prevents a far more expensive DP1 intervention later. Victoria International School of Sharjah runs the continuum and is the nearest realistic IB route for this part of the emirate.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across HL and SL plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. This is where the monthly figure gets serious, because Internal Assessment deadlines fall while teaching continues and families often add a second and third subject in DP2. The May session is the one UAE schools sit, which fixes when the expensive term falls.

The pattern that wastes money in Al Suyoh is the same every year: nothing in DP1, then three subjects booked simultaneously in the spring of DP2 at exam-term intensity. Spreading one subject across DP1 at a single weekly session costs less in total than the panic version and produces a better outcome, because coursework gets taught rather than rescued.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Hours needed vary sharply by subject, and so therefore does cost. These notes say what each subject absorbs and where the spend is genuinely worth it for an Al Suyoh Diploma student.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most expensive subject to leave late. HL carries proof by induction, complex numbers and a deep calculus option, and the method marks go to written justification rather than answers. A student rebuilding reasoning from scratch in DP2 needs roughly twice the hours of one doing it steadily from DP1.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with the graphical calculator used, cited and interpreted. Cheaper to support than AA in raw hours, but the exploration eats time if the research question is chosen badly, so the sensible spend is an early block on topic selection rather than a long run later.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and the data-based paper decide grades, and the Internal Assessment is where hours concentrate. Budget a defined coursework block eight weeks before the school deadline; the same work compressed into ten days cannot be taught properly at any price.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields reward drawing before calculating. Paper 2 extended responses pay for stated assumptions. Uncertainty handling in the practical work is a reliable mark leak and takes only two or three sessions to fix, which makes it one of the better-value interventions available.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume rather than difficulty. The spend that works is on command terms: outline, explain, distinguish and evaluate each demand a different answer shape, and a student who writes everything they know scores below one who answers the verb. That is technique work, not content delivery, so it is hours-light.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram discipline carries marks prose cannot recover. HL adds calculation and the policy evaluation most candidates leave as assertion. The three commentaries need sourced articles and one clear syllabus concept each, and tutoring them properly is a short block rather than a term.

English Language and Literature

Language A, HL and SL

The Individual Oral collapses without two well-chosen extracts and a genuinely arguable global issue, and that is a two-session conversation that saves a grade. Paper 1 unseen commentary improves with marked practice, which means hours spent on feedback rather than teaching.

Business Management

HL and SL

The HL research project absorbs more time than students expect because it needs real primary material and a tightly bounded question. Content revision is comparatively cheap here; the project is where the hours and therefore the cost sit, and it is predictable enough to budget.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The exhibition and the prescribed-title essay are both method problems rather than knowledge problems. Three or four sessions on how a TOK claim is structured and evidenced is usually the whole intervention, and students who skip it lose points that cost nothing to secure.

Extended Essay supervision support

Core

Not a replacement for the school supervisor. A tutor teaches research-question design, source evaluation and the structure the criteria reward, then reads what the student wrote. Booked as a finite block from topic choice to the first supervisor meeting, it is one of the cheapest points in the Diploma.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, three cost shapes. Choosing the wrong one is the most common way an Al Suyoh family spends more than the problem required. All three run online over live video.

Single weekly subject, across the term

One sixty or ninety-minute session a week in one subject with the same tutor. The lowest sustainable monthly commitment and the format that produces the clearest progress record, because the tutor sees the same student against the same syllabus repeatedly and can say which topics have settled. Most Al Suyoh families should start here and expand only if the evidence says to.

  • A fixed weekly slot that can move for a mock week
  • Written notes after each session naming the next topic
  • Work drawn from your child's own school scheme of work
  • Easiest format to stop without wasting a prepaid block

Finite coursework block

A defined run of four to eight sessions aimed at one piece: an Internal Assessment from research question to a marked draft, a Theory of Knowledge exhibition, or an Extended Essay up to the first supervisor meeting. It has an endpoint, so it has a knowable total cost, which makes it the easiest thing in the Diploma to budget accurately.

  • A stated number of sessions with a stated finish
  • Criteria explained by letter with marks attached before drafting
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never a rewrite
  • No rolling subscription once the piece is submitted

Exam-term intensity

Raised frequency in the run-up to the May session, built on timed papers rather than new content. This is the expensive format and it should be short. Families who have done steady work through DP1 need weeks of it; families starting from nothing in DP2 need months, which is the single clearest illustration of why early spending is cheaper than late spending.

  • Two or three shorter sessions a week for a defined run
  • Every session opens with a marked paper, not a topic list
  • Mark-scheme language taught from official command terms
  • Slots shift to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan where needed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Suyoh

01

What an IB home tutor in Al Suyoh costs a month

Start with the monthly figure because that is the figure a household actually feels. Bestimate's 2026 estimates for weekly one-hour sessions put the budget tier at roughly AED 240-600 a month, the middle tier at AED 600-1,200 and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more. Packages advertised in this market sit inside those bands: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. The online package therefore buys twice the contact hours for roughly half the money, and that gap is the subject of this whole page.

Convert those to hourly bands and the structure becomes visible. Published figures run from AED 45-65 at EdFlik's budget end and AED 33-52 at Tutopiya's, through AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, up to AED 180-350 for in-home one-to-one on Bestimate's table and AED 500 quoted by independent home tutors. TutorChase lists AED 270 and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the examiner tier. None of these are IB Gram prices; they are what the market publishes, and they are published here because three of six ranking pages in this cluster publish no price at all.

The table below converts the bands into monthly totals at the frequencies an Al Suyoh Diploma family actually books, so you can match a quote to a band rather than guess. Two points are worth holding. First, the jump from one session a week to two does not double the benefit but does double the cost, so the second session should be justified by something specific rather than general anxiety. Second, the exam-year specialist band exists because that is when demand concentrates, which means the same work bought a year earlier sits in a cheaper band.

Where the money stops reaching the teaching

  • Travel is the single largest avoidable component of an in-home quote
  • A generalist bills preparation time as teaching time
  • The same syllabus costs more per grade point in DP2 than in DP1
  • A tier or HL/SL decision reviewed early costs two sessions and changes the ceiling

Three components of a tutoring quote do nothing for your child's grade, and all three are avoidable. The first is travel. A tutor driving to Al Suyoh from Sharjah city or across the Dubai border absorbs a round trip through the E311 at the hour it is worst, and either prices it into the hour or limits how many students they take, which prices it in anyway. Bestimate's in-home band sits AED 30-200 an hour above the online band for a qualified tutor. That spread is the car, not the teaching.

The second is generalism. A tutor covering six subjects across three boards spends part of every session working out what the specification requires, and the parent funds that preparation in real time. The difference shows up in the first fifteen minutes of a trial lesson: a specialist asks whether your child is on Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation and which option topic the school chose, and then starts diagnosing. A generalist asks what the student finds difficult.

The third is late timing, and it is the most expensive of the three. Work bought at exam-term intensity in the spring of DP2 sits in the AED 1,000-2,000-plus monthly band on Bestimate's own estimates. The same material taught at one session a week through DP1 sits in the AED 600-1,200 band and produces better coursework, because an Internal Assessment taught over eight weeks can be taught, whereas one addressed ten days before a school deadline can only be hurried. Nothing about the hourly rate changes; the quantity of hours needed changes.

There is a fourth cost that is harder to see, which is a wrong tier decision made early. An IGCSE student entered for the Core tier when they could manage Extended, or a Diploma student taking HL in a subject they should take at SL, has a ceiling placed on their result before any tutoring happens. Two sessions spent on that decision in the term it is made is the cheapest money in this entire page, and almost nobody spends it.

03

What the in-home premium actually buys

It is worth being fair to the in-home option, because for some students it is the right purchase. Having an adult physically present enforces attention in a way a screen does not, particularly for younger children and for students who will not stay on task without supervision. Physical apparatus can be handled. A parent can see what is happening without asking. Those are real benefits and a family paying AED 180-350 an hour on Bestimate's band is not being defrauded; they are buying presence.

The question is whether presence is what your particular child needs. For a Diploma student working towards written papers, the limiting factor is almost always the quality of the diagnosis rather than the room. The tutor marks a timed paper on screen, annotates it live against the mark scheme, and the student keeps the annotated file. That is not a degraded version of a face-to-face lesson; for paper technique it is arguably better, because the artefact survives the session.

What the premium does not buy is subject depth, and this is the point the market avoids. Travel narrows the pool to specialists prepared to drive to a plotted suburb in southern Sharjah on a weekday evening. For Mathematics AA HL or Chemistry HL that pool may contain nobody at all, and a family paying the in-home premium can end up with a generalist at specialist prices. Remove the drive and the constraint becomes the timetable rather than the map.

IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in the UAE, which means this comparison is not a sales device dressed as advice. Home visits are offered only in India. If what your child needs is somebody physically in the room, the honest recommendation is to hire that locally and we will say so.

04

Tutoring cost in the context of a Sharjah school year

A tutoring figure means little until it sits next to the other education costs in the household. Dubai's regulator provides a useful anchor for the wider UAE picture: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Sharjah fees are approved by its own authority rather than KHDA, but the direction of the regional conversation matters when a family is planning a two-year Diploma budget.

Scale matters too. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for seven per cent of enrolment against thirty-seven per cent for the UK curriculum and twenty-six per cent for the Indian. That IB share explains the supply problem an Al Suyoh family runs into. IB specialists are a minority of a minority, and in an inland Sharjah suburb the local count of them approaches zero, which is why in-home IB quotes here sit at the top of the band.

The table puts the pieces side by side. The point is not that tutoring is cheap or expensive but that it is comparable in size to other decisions families make without agonising, and that its cost is far more controllable than most of them. A finite coursework block has a knowable total. An exam-term intensive does not, unless you set one before it starts.

One further item belongs in any honest cost table, which is the private-candidate route. A student sitting Cambridge or Pearson papers outside their school pays entry fees to a registered centre, and those fees are set by the centre rather than by any tutoring provider. Anyone quoting you a single figure that bundles tuition and entry is bundling two things with different owners.

05

How many hours a Diploma subject actually needs

  • Technique gaps: roughly six to ten sessions of marked-paper work
  • Foundational gaps: a term or more, with content rebuilt in order
  • Coursework: a finite block of four to eight sessions, booked ahead of the school deadline
  • Start with one subject and review after six weeks before adding a second

Families ask how many sessions are required and are usually given a number that suits the seller. The honest answer is that it depends on the gap, and that the gap is diagnosable in one lesson. A student who understands the content but loses method marks needs technique work, which is a short run of marked papers and can be six to ten sessions. A student missing foundational material from an earlier year needs rebuilding, which is a term or more. Those two students look identical on a report card and need entirely different budgets.

The second variable is how many subjects. One subject at one session a week is a sustainable line in a household budget and produces a clear signal about whether tutoring is helping. Three subjects simultaneously produces a large bill and a muddy signal, because when a grade moves you cannot tell which intervention moved it. The sensible sequence for an Al Suyoh Diploma family is one subject, reviewed after six weeks, then a decision about the second.

The third is timing within the two-year course. Coursework is the predictable expense and it is predictable because the school publishes the deadlines. A Chemistry Internal Assessment, a Mathematics exploration, an Economics commentary set and the Extended Essay all have known dates, and each can be supported in a finite block booked in advance. Families who plan around those dates spend less in total than families who respond to them, for the same reason that booking a flight early costs less than booking it at the airport.

What a tutor should never do is tell you a number of hours before seeing your child work. If a provider quotes you a package length before the trial lesson, they are selling a product rather than diagnosing a problem, and the length will be whatever their packages come in.

06

Spending the Diploma budget in the right term

The two-year shape of a Diploma gives an Al Suyoh family four distinct spending windows, and almost all avoidable overspend comes from skipping the first two. The first window is the term after subject selection, when HL and SL choices can still be reviewed. Two sessions here, reading the student's actual work rather than their predicted grades, can change a six-subject package that was never going to work. Nobody charges much for that and almost nobody buys it.

The second window is the middle of DP1, when Internal Assessment research questions are being chosen. A research question that cannot be controlled with the apparatus available, or an exploration topic with no mathematics in it, is a problem that compounds for a year. A finite block here is cheap and prevents the single most common late disaster. The third window is the start of DP2, when a student's genuine position across six subjects becomes visible and a decision about where to concentrate can be made on evidence.

The fourth window is the run-in to the May session, and it is the expensive one. Bestimate's specialist exam-year band of AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month exists because this is when everybody wants the same tutors. A family arriving here having used the first three windows needs a short, targeted intensive. A family arriving here having used none of them needs months of it across multiple subjects, at the top of the band, with coursework already submitted and unfixable.

This is not an argument for spending more overall. It is an argument for spending the same money earlier, which in this market reliably buys more. The free trial lesson exists partly so that a family can test the diagnosis before committing to any of these windows, and nothing obliges you to book afterwards.

07

Two checks worth running before any money changes hands

The first check is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. UAE government guidance records that it is granted free of charge for two years, and that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any amount quoted to you is somebody's invention. Because the permit is free, a tutor without one has no cost justification for the omission.

Eligibility is broad: teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, sets out the application route through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system with a two-working-day completion time and no fee. That page, not a tutoring site, is where to read the current position. One restriction catches families out: a school teacher may not take paid private work with students enrolled at their own school, a point Abu Dhabi's ADEK has made in professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff as reported by Gulf News.

The second check is the honesty boundary, and it is a cost question as much as an academic one. Ask what the tutor will do with a draft Internal Assessment. The acceptable answer is that they will read it, mark it against the published criteria and tell your child what to rewrite. Any answer involving producing, finishing or polishing the work to submission is describing something that puts your child at risk of a malpractice finding. The research behind this page found a provider in this market selling completed Internal Assessments outright at a four-figure price. That is not tutoring at a premium; it is a different transaction with the consequence transferred to the student.

Neither check costs anything and both take minutes. Together they eliminate most of the ways a tutoring budget can be genuinely wasted, as opposed to merely spent inefficiently.

08

What no amount of money should buy

  • Available: criteria by letter, research-question design, referencing, marked drafts
  • Not available at any price: drafting, rewriting to completion, supplying text
  • No tutor can promise a grade, a points total or an admission
  • Tutoring is not a requirement of equivalency, admission or progression

A clear boundary is worth more to a parent than a discount, so here is ours stated plainly. A tutor teaches, explains, models, questions and gives feedback. A tutor does not produce assessed work. For a Diploma student that means the Internal Assessment, the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition, and every commentary are the student's own, written by the student, start to finish. Where a draft is weak, the feedback names the criterion that is not met and the student goes back to it.

What is available is substantial and often undersold. The criteria explained letter by letter with their mark allocations before drafting begins. Three candidate research questions discussed and two of them ruled out for practical reasons. Referencing taught properly rather than bolted on. A worked example on a different topic so the student can see the shape without borrowing the content. A marked draft with criterion references. A rehearsal of the supervisor meeting. That is a real service and it is what the money buys.

Equally, nobody should sell you an outcome. No tutor can promise a grade, a points total or a university place, and the Diploma does not work that way in any case. What a tutor can do is make the next assessment better prepared than the last one, and say honestly after six weeks whether the sessions are producing that. If the answer is no, the right response is a different tutor or a different diagnosis, not more hours at the same rate.

The last item on this list is pressure. Tutoring is not required for Ministry of Education equivalency, for university admission or for school progression, and any page implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process. Equivalency is handled by the Ministry through its own channel; a tutoring service describes it and points you there, and that is the whole of its role.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Suyoh

Al Suyoh enquiries arrive alongside these neighbouring Sharjah communities. Each has a slightly different cost picture, because school mix and commute distance both move the number.

Al Tai

Directly north, built around Nasma Residences. Shares schools and school runs with Al Suyoh, so quoted in-home rates here are usually the same, and so is the problem of finding an HL specialist willing to make the trip.

Al Rahmaniya

Villa community nearby containing Sharjah Sustainable City. Similar plotted layout and similar tutoring supply, which means families in both places compare quotes with each other and find the same narrow in-home pool.

Muwaileh

Denser, older and school-rich, with Wesgreen International School and the International School of Creative Science inside it. Travelling tutors price Muwaileh lower than Al Suyoh simply because more students sit within one drive.

University City

Sharjah's higher-education cluster and the source of the market's budget tier, where published rates start around AED 45-65 an hour. Reasonable for lower secondary work, rarely the right purchase for HL sciences.

Al Zahia

Villa and townhouse community off the E311 with its own retail centre. Diploma families here commute out of the emirate in numbers, which compresses the usable evening and raises what a travelling tutor has to charge.

Maliha Road corridor

The southern route out of Al Suyoh towards Al Dhaid. Anything beyond it is a long drive for a tutor, which is where in-home quotes stop being competitive and the online option stops having a serious rival.

IB Diploma families from Al Suyoh generally travel this way, which lengthens the school run and pushes tutoring slots later into the evening. A later slot is free online and expensive for anyone driving.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the subject, level and the monthly budget you have

Tell us the IB subject, whether it is HL or SL, the date of the next assessment and the monthly figure you are working with. A realistic budget shapes an honest recommendation: one subject done properly beats three done thinly, and we would rather say that at the enquiry than after two months.

  2. 02

    Get a straight availability answer

Within the day you are told whether a specialist for that exact subject and level is free in your child's evening window, free at another time, or not available this term. Al Suyoh school runs usually decide which, so include the time your child is actually home and free to work.

  3. 03

Use the free trial lesson as a diagnosis

The first lesson costs nothing, takes no card details and is a real lesson. Send a recent marked paper beforehand. At the end, ask the tutor what the gap is and roughly how many sessions it implies. A specialist will answer with a range and a reason; a seller will answer with a package.

  4. 04

Book one subject, review after six weeks

A fixed weekly slot with a stated goal, written notes after each session, and an explicit review at six weeks on whether it is working. Expand to a second subject only if the first one produced evidence. If the match is wrong, say so and it changes rather than running on.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates published with their sources

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the competitor page or rate table it came from, with the tier it describes. There is no invented IB Gram price list here and no hidden quote. Three of six pages ranking for these queries publish no price at all, and two of the rest quote in US dollars.

The travel cost is removed, not disguised

Online delivery takes the round trip to a southern Sharjah suburb out of the hourly rate instead of burying it there. That is most of the AED 30-200 gap between Bestimate's in-home and online bands, and it is the part of a quote that does nothing for your child's grade.

A pool that is not limited by who will drive

Matching on syllabus and level rather than distance means an Al Suyoh family can reach a Mathematics AA HL or Chemistry HL specialist who would never appear on a local shortlist. In an inland plotted suburb that is the difference between a specialist and a generalist at specialist prices.

Finite blocks where the work is finite

Coursework support is sold as a defined run with a stated endpoint, so the total is knowable before it starts. Rolling subscriptions suit providers and not families, and an Internal Assessment has a submission date rather than an indefinite need.

An honest no when the answer is no

If no specialist covers the subject at the level needed, or none is free in your window, you hear that at the enquiry stage. If your child genuinely needs an adult in the room, you hear that too, because IB Gram sells no in-home option in the UAE and so has nothing to gain by pretending.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Suyoh: your questions answered

What does an IB home tutor in Al Suyoh cost per month?+

Working from published market figures rather than ours: Bestimate's 2026 estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget tier, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Advertised packages in this market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. For one IB subject at one session a week with a qualified tutor, the middle band is the realistic planning figure for an Al Suyoh household.

Why is an in-home rate in Al Suyoh higher than an online one?+

Mostly travel. Bestimate's 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500, against roughly AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online. Al Suyoh is an inland plotted suburb, so a tutor is committing to a round trip through the E311 corridor at peak. They either price that into the hour or restrict how many students they take, which prices it in anyway. The remainder of the gap is scarcity: few IB specialists will drive out here on a weekday evening.

Is one session a week enough for an IB subject?+

For most students, yes, provided it starts early enough. One sixty or ninety-minute session a week in a single subject is a sustainable household line and gives a clean signal about whether tutoring is helping, because nothing else changed. Two sessions a week doubles the cost without doubling the benefit, so the second should answer a specific diagnosis rather than general worry. Where one session is not enough is when a student is missing foundational material from an earlier year, which is a rebuilding job and visible in the first lesson.

Which IB subjects absorb the most tutoring hours?+

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at HL is the most expensive subject to leave late, because the method marks depend on written justification that has to be rebuilt rather than revised. Chemistry and Physics at HL follow, largely because the Internal Assessment concentrates hours. Biology is content-heavy but technique-light, so it responds to a short run on command terms. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay are method problems and usually need only three or four well-aimed sessions each, which makes them the best value in the Diploma.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to a home in Al Suyoh?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. Lessons for Al Suyoh families run one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the Sharjah school day. That removes the travel component from the hourly rate and widens the tutor pool beyond whoever is prepared to drive to an inland plotted suburb. If your child genuinely needs an adult physically in the room, the honest recommendation is to hire that locally, and we will say so.

When in the Diploma is tutoring money best spent?+

Earlier than most families spend it. The cheap windows are the term after subject selection, when HL and SL choices can still be reviewed, and the middle of DP1, when Internal Assessment research questions are chosen. Both are short interventions that prevent expensive problems. The costly window is the run-in to the May session, which sits in Bestimate's AED 1,000-2,000-plus specialist band precisely because demand concentrates there. The same material taught a year earlier needs fewer hours and produces better coursework, so early spending buys more at the same rate.

How do I tell a specialist from a generalist in one lesson?+

Listen to the first five minutes. A specialist asks whether your child takes Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, which option topic the school chose, and what the last marked paper showed, then begins diagnosing from it. A generalist asks what the student finds difficult and works from there. The difference matters financially as well as academically, because a generalist spends part of each paid session working out what the specification requires, and that preparation is billed to you as teaching time.

Is a budget tutor from University City worth considering?+

At the right level, yes. University students are explicitly eligible for the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and the budget end of the published market, around AED 45-65 at EdFlik and AED 33-52 at Tutopiya, is largely this group. For lower secondary maths or structured homework supervision that can be sensible and nearby, since University City is a short drive from Al Suyoh. For an HL science or a Diploma Internal Assessment it usually is not, because the work needs somebody who has marked those papers against the published criteria.

Can a tutor finish my child's Internal Assessment if time is short?+

No, and any provider that offers to is describing a malpractice route rather than a service. Under IB academic-honesty rules the work must be the student's own; submitting material produced by somebody else risks a finding against your child, not against the seller. What a tutor can do is teach the criteria letter by letter, help narrow a research question, explain what Evaluation rewards, and mark a draft your child wrote with instructions on what to rewrite. That takes weeks, which is why coursework blocks are booked a term ahead.

Do I pay for the trial lesson in Al Suyoh?+

No. The first lesson is free, takes no card details and carries no obligation to book afterwards. It is a real lesson rather than a sales call, so send a recent marked paper beforehand and expect the tutor to work from it. At the end, ask what the gap is and roughly how many sessions it implies; a specialist will give a range with a reason attached. If you decide not to continue, nothing further happens and no package is opened.

What school fee context should an Al Suyoh family plan against?+

Sharjah school fees are approved by the emirate's own authority rather than by Dubai's regulator, but the regional picture is useful. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, with the IB accounting for seven per cent of enrolment, which explains why IB specialists are scarce and in-home IB quotes sit high.

Does the permit a tutor needs cost them anything?+

No, which is why its absence is telling. UAE government guidance states that the private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through MoHRE, is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page lists a two-working-day completion time and no fee, applied for through its smart app, website or e-services system. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so any figure quoted to you is unverified.

Can an Al Suyoh child be tutored privately by their own class teacher?+

Not if the child is enrolled at that teacher's school. Abu Dhabi's ADEK has set professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibiting paid private tutoring of students at their own school, as reported by Gulf News, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct making the same point. So the apparent shortcut of hiring the class teacher after hours is not one. Treat the offer as a reason to look elsewhere, and verify the current policy wording with the school or the regulator rather than relying on a tutoring site.

Will more hours closer to the exams fix a weak DP2 position?+

Partly, and expensively. Timed-paper technique responds quickly, so a short intensive in the run-in to the May session can move marks that are being lost to method rather than knowledge. What an intensive cannot fix is submitted coursework, which is closed, or a missing foundation across a two-year syllabus, which needs time nobody has left. That asymmetry is the argument for spending in DP1 instead: the same money buys teaching there and buys triage here, and no honest tutor should promise a grade either way.

Set the monthly figure first, then book the trial

If you are weighing an IB home tutor in Al Suyoh, decide the monthly figure before you compare hourly rates, because the hourly rate is where the travel hides. Send the subject, the level, the next assessment date and the budget you are working with, and you will get an honest answer about whether a specialist is free in your child's evening window and what a sensible schedule looks like inside that figure. The first lesson is free, runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and should end with a diagnosis rather than a package. Every rate quoted on this page carries the source it came from, and none of them is ours.
