IB Home Tutor in Al Mamsha

Most pages offering an IB home tutor in Al Mamsha stop at the word tutor. This one goes down to the syllabus: which paper carries what weight at Higher and Standard Level, which criterion letters hold the marks in an internal assessment, and what a command term actually obliges a student to do. Al Mamsha is a walkable Sharjah district near Muwaileh, and IB Gram teaches these subjects live one-to-one over video rather than sending anyone to a UAE address.

  • Tutors matched to one subject at one level, not to a year group
  • Criterion-level feedback on the student's own internal assessment draft
  • Timed past-paper work corrected against the published mark scheme
  • Free trial lesson that names the specific marks being lost

IB & IGCSE in Al Mamsha

What a subject specialist knows that a general tutor does not

A general tutor knows the subject. A subject specialist knows the assessment. That distinction sounds like marketing until you watch it in practice: the specialist can tell a student that Paper 3 carries a specific share of the Higher Level grade, that criterion C in the Extended Essay rubric holds more marks than any other criterion, and that the command term suggest obliges a different answer from explain. Those are the things that convert understanding into points, and they are not in the textbook.

Al Mamsha is a walkable mixed-use district in Sharjah near Muwaileh and University City, which means students here are close to schools and no closer than anybody else to a Higher Level examiner. The number of people in the emirate who have taught Higher Level Chemistry through two full assessment cycles is small, and they are not concentrated in any one development. So the useful question is not who is nearby but who knows this subject's assessment at this level.

IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE. Home tuition is a service we offer only in India, and for Sharjah families every lesson is live, one-to-one, over video, in a slot held in Gulf Standard Time. The reason that works for subject-level teaching is simple: what a specialist session actually consists of is a question attempted, a mark scheme opened and an answer corrected line by line, none of which needs anyone in the room.

This page is therefore built around assessment detail rather than reassurance. There is a table of paper structures and weightings at both levels, a table of the internal assessment criterion letters with their mark allocations, a table of command terms and what each one obliges, and a worked account of where marks are lost subject by subject. Check every rubric figure against your school's current copy of the subject guide, because the IB revises guides and a page cannot be the authority on that.

One honest caveat before the detail. We do not publish IB session or results dates anywhere on this site, because the IB's own site blocks automated verification and a confidently wrong date on a page a parent plans around is worse than none. UAE schools sit the May session. Ask your school's IB coordinator for the specifics, and for the internal deadline schedule, which is what actually governs a Diploma year. The same caution applies to every rubric figure quoted below: it is the published allocation as we understand it, it belongs to a particular version of a subject guide, and the habit of checking it in your school's own copy is worth more to your child than the number itself. Read the rubric, count the marks, and spend the time in proportion to where they sit.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three programmes and one core, each assessed on a different model. Al Mamsha families arrive at all four, and the subject-level work looks genuinely different in each.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, each assessed by external papers and an internal assessment, plus the three core components, totalling 45 points. Grades run 1 to 7 per subject with up to three bonus points from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge combination.

For a Sharjah student the practical consequence is that no two subjects should be revised the same way. The internal assessment weighting differs by subject, the paper structures differ, and a student who spreads effort evenly across six subjects is over-investing in the ones where the marks are already secure and under-investing in the paper that will decide a grade.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria marked out of 8, converted to a 1 to 7 grade by published boundaries. The criteria are the whole assessment: a strong piece of work that does not address a criterion strand scores in the middle band regardless of quality.

Most MYP tutoring in Sharjah should begin with reading the criterion descriptors aloud with the student. They are written in a particular register, they draw sharp distinctions between adjacent bands, and students who have never been shown the difference between the top two bands cannot aim at it. This is a two-session intervention with a disproportionate effect.

DP coreAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Extended Essay, TOK and CAS

The Extended Essay is a 4,000-word independent research piece assessed against five criteria. Theory of Knowledge is assessed by a prescribed-title essay and an exhibition of three objects. Together they contribute up to three bonus points, and badly handled they remove them.

The core is where Sharjah students most often lose points to process rather than ability. The Extended Essay rubric rewards a narrow, answerable research question and sustained critical thinking, and penalises a broad topic however well written. Fixing a research question costs one session in July and cannot be fixed at all in February.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led with no external examinations, assessed through units of inquiry and the Year 6 exhibition. Support here is about numeracy fluency, reading stamina and the working habits that later assessment will assume rather than teach.

Al Mamsha families with primary children have the easiest scheduling position in the district, because primary release is earlier and homework is light. It is also the stage where the budget market band is genuinely adequate, and we will say so rather than talking a family upwards into a specialist they do not need yet.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each note below names the component where marks are actually lost at Higher Level, because that is where a specialist session should start rather than at the beginning of the syllabus.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Marks go to unjustified steps and to algebraic slips under time pressure, not to misunderstanding. At Higher Level the proof questions reward a rehearsed structure. The exploration carries real weight and is routinely written in a rush in the final fortnight.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The calculator is examinable: students lose marks for procedures they understand but have not drilled. Modelling questions reward a fixed sequence of define, fit, test and interpret, which can be taught as a habit in two or three sessions.

Physics

HL and SL

The written-explanation questions are the loss point. A correct idea phrased loosely earns nothing where the mark scheme names a mechanism. Paper 3 rewards experimental reasoning, and the internal assessment rewards one tightly controlled variable over an ambitious design.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the Higher Level failure rate because they are cumulative. Data questions require uncertainty to be propagated rather than mentioned, which is a specific, teachable technique worth two sessions on its own.

Biology

HL and SL

Marks are tied to exact terminology more tightly than in any other science: a loosely correct answer scores zero where the mark scheme names a term. Data-analysis questions catch students who revised content and skipped skills entirely.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy under time pressure decides a large share of the marks, and the evaluation command terms decide most of the rest. The internally assessed commentaries need theory applied to a real published article rather than the article summarised.

Business Management

HL and SL

Application to the named organisation separates a 5 from a 7 and is a rehearsable habit rather than a talent. The quantitative tools are examinable, mechanical and the most reliably neglected marks in the subject.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen analysis and improves measurably with one marked timed response a week. Strong bilingual Sharjah students plateau on analytical technique rather than language: commenting on effect instead of restating content.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies must function as evidence rather than be recounted, and the command terms draw sharp lines between describe, explain and evaluate. The internal assessment is a replication with strict reporting conventions that become easy marks once learned.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Assessed by a prescribed-title essay and an exhibition. The common failure is an essay that describes knowledge rather than arguing about it, which is a structural problem and therefore unusually responsive to a short block of coaching.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy subject-level work, all online. The difference between them is what the sessions consist of, not how long they last.

Paper-technique sessions

Each session is a question attempted cold, then corrected line by line against the published mark scheme, then the same question type attempted again. No new content unless a gap appears. This is the arrangement for a student who understands the subject and does not convert that into marks.

  • A timed attempt in every session, without exception
  • Mark scheme open during correction, not afterwards
  • A running list of recurring error types
  • Command-term discipline drilled explicitly

Criterion-level internal assessment coaching

Work on the student's own draft, read against the criterion letters one at a time, with written feedback on where each criterion is currently scoring and what the next band requires. The student writes every word; the tutor explains the rubric and reads what results.

  • Criterion-by-criterion written feedback
  • Research question or variable choice settled before drafting
  • Referencing and data handling taught properly
  • No writing, rewriting or editing to a finished state

Content teaching, prioritised by weight

Where topics are genuinely missing, taught in order of mark weight rather than in syllabus order. A student short of time should learn the heavily weighted topic they cannot do before the lightly weighted one they also cannot do, which sounds obvious and is almost never how revision gets planned.

  • Topics ordered by weight, not by chapter
  • Tested with past-paper questions on the same topic immediately
  • Higher Level extension material given its own sessions
  • Converts into paper technique once the gaps close

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Mamsha

01

Paper structures and weightings at both levels

Revision planned without knowing the weightings is revision planned badly. A student who spends equal time on every component is over-investing in the small ones, and in most Diploma subjects the components are not remotely equal. The table below sets out the general structure at Standard and Higher Level for the subjects Sharjah families ask about most, and it is the first thing a specialist session should establish.

The pattern worth noticing is that Higher Level is not simply more content. In most subjects it adds a component, extends an existing paper or increases the depth demanded in the same paper, which means Higher Level revision has a different shape rather than a longer one. A student moving from Standard to Higher Level mid-course has a new component to learn, not just more pages.

The internal assessment column is the one families consistently underestimate. In several subjects it carries a share of the grade comparable to a whole paper, and unlike a paper it can be worked on calmly months in advance. A student who leaves it to the final fortnight has chosen to do the most recoverable part of the assessment under the worst possible conditions.

Check every figure against your school's current copy of the subject guide. The IB revises guides and component weightings change between guide versions, so a page cannot be the authority on this, and any provider who presents weightings as fixed for all time is telling you they have not looked recently.

The criterion letters, and where the marks actually sit

This is the gap nobody fills in this market. Every internal assessment is marked against lettered criteria with published mark allocations, and almost no page written for UAE parents names a single one. Yet the criterion letters are the whole assessment: a student who does not know that one criterion carries twice the marks of another cannot allocate their effort sensibly, and most do not know.

The science investigation is the clearest case. It is marked out of 24 across four criteria, each carrying an equal share: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The practical consequence is that a beautiful set of results with a weak evaluation loses a quarter of the available marks, and evaluation is the section students write last and fastest. Reversing that order is worth several marks for no extra work.

The Extended Essay rubric runs to 34 marks across five criteria, and critical thinking carries 12 of them, more than any other criterion and more than focus and method and knowledge and understanding combined. That single fact changes how an essay should be written, and students who learn it in July write a different essay from those who learn it in February. The Mathematics exploration is marked out of 20 across five criteria, with use of mathematics the largest.

Verify these allocations against your school's current subject guide. The IB revises rubrics between guide versions and the numbers here are the published allocations as we understand them rather than a permanent fact. The habit we are arguing for matters more than any specific number: read the rubric, count the marks, and spend time in proportion.

03

Command terms are contractual

The IB publishes a list of command terms and defines each one, and the mark schemes apply those definitions strictly. A question that says suggest will accept a reasoned possibility; a question that says explain will not accept one. A student who answers every question with everything they know scores the marks for the question they were asked and nothing for the rest, which is why able students can sit in the middle of the mark range.

This is the fastest intervention available in subject tutoring, and it is almost entirely mechanical. Take six past-paper questions on the same topic with six different command terms, answer each one, and compare against the mark schemes. Most students see immediately that they have been writing the same answer to different questions, and the habit changes within two or three sessions.

The table below sets out the terms that cause most trouble in Sharjah classrooms and what each one obliges. The distinctions are not stylistic: the mark scheme awards credit for the specific operation named, and a student who describes when asked to evaluate has not produced a weaker answer but a different and unmarkable one.

Check the current definitions in the subject guide your school uses, because the glossary belongs to the guide and the IB revises guides. The point for a parent is narrower than the detail: ask the tutor in the trial lesson to explain the difference between two command terms in your child's subject. If they can do it crisply, they know the assessment. If they talk about confidence instead, they do not.

COMMAND TERMS THAT COST THE MOST MARKS

04

Where the marks actually go, subject by subject

  • Physics: learn the standard explanations from mark schemes, verbatim
  • Chemistry: propagate uncertainty properly; it appears in every data question
  • Biology: revise from mark schemes, not from your own notes
  • Economics and Business: apply theory to the given case, never in general

In Physics the loss is concentrated in written explanation. A student can calculate competently and still lose six marks a paper by describing a mechanism loosely where the mark scheme names a specific chain of cause and effect. The fix is to collect the standard explanations from mark schemes and learn the phrasing until it is automatic, which feels mechanical because it is.

In Chemistry the loss is cumulative. Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms each depend on the one before, so a gap in the first term of Higher Level produces failures in the third. Data questions demand that uncertainty be propagated rather than mentioned, and that single technique is worth two sessions on its own because it appears in every data-based question on every paper.

In Biology the loss is terminological. The mark scheme frequently names the exact word, and a loosely correct answer earns nothing. Students revise from notes written in their own words and then write those words in the examination. The correction is to revise from mark schemes rather than from notes, which is unglamorous and reliably effective.

In Economics and Business Management the loss is in application. A student who defines every term and then writes a textbook answer about a generic firm has produced work that cannot score in the top bands, because the assessment rewards engagement with the specific case or article in front of them. That is a rehearsable structure rather than an insight, and it moves grades inside a term.

05

How to use past papers so they do something

  • Attempt cold and timed, or you are measuring the wrong thing
  • Correct phrase by phrase against the mark scheme, with the tutor present
  • Redo the same question type; this is the step that builds the habit
  • Select questions by failing skill; save whole papers for the final fortnight

Most past-paper work is wasted, and it is wasted in a predictable way. A student does a paper, checks the answers, feels reassured or discouraged, and moves on. Nothing has been learned, because the information in a past paper is not whether the student got it right but exactly which operation they failed to perform, and that only becomes visible when the mark scheme is read line by line against their own words.

The session structure that works has three parts. Attempt cold and timed, because an untimed attempt measures knowledge rather than performance. Correct against the mark scheme with the tutor, phrase by phrase, identifying what the mark scheme wanted and what the student wrote instead. Then redo the same question type from scratch, in the same session or the next one, which is the step almost everyone skips and the step that builds the habit.

Papers should also be chosen rather than worked through in order. A student losing marks on data analysis should do the data-analysis questions from six papers rather than six whole papers, because that concentrates the correction on the failing operation. Whole papers belong in the last fortnight, when the thing being practised is stamina and pacing rather than any single skill.

We do not supply official past papers or mark schemes as downloads, and no provider should. Those are IB, Cambridge and Pearson materials and reproducing them is a copyright matter. We reference them, teach from them in session, and point to the official source so that you can obtain them through your school in the normal way.

06

What subject-level expertise costs in this market

Specialist knowledge is priced accordingly and it is worth knowing where the bands sit before you negotiate. Read in October 2026, a qualified subject tutor working online sits at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200. An IB, IGCSE or A Level specialist runs AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table putting specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more.

Below that, the budget band of roughly AED 33 to 65, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, is supplied largely by university students, and University City is next door to Al Mamsha. For Middle Years criteria work and primary support that is often the right purchase and we will say so. For Higher Level criterion-level feedback on an internal assessment it is not, and no amount of enthusiasm substitutes for having marked the thing before.

At the top, premium named or examiner-led provision reaches AED 650 at BartyED. Our view is that this is rarely justified, principally because examiner status is extremely hard for a parent to verify and should not be used to imply any access to marking or boundaries. We do not describe our tutors as examiners, because we would not be able to evidence it for every individual.

In-home visits sit at AED 180 to 350 on Bestimate's table and AED 200 to 500 with independent tutors. For the kind of work described on this page the travel premium buys nothing: a question attempted, a mark scheme opened and an answer corrected works identically on a shared screen. Every figure here is published by the provider named; none is an IB Gram price, and for ours you should take the free trial and ask.

Criterion-level help and the line that cannot move

  • Reading the rubric and saying where each criterion is scoring: yes
  • Writing, rewriting or completing any part of the work: never
  • Official papers, mark schemes and guides as downloads: no, we link the source
  • A tutor who also marks your child's school work: no

Everything on this page points towards close work on a student's own draft, which makes the integrity boundary more important rather than less. This market contains providers who sell completed internal assessments; one page in this research advertises finished work at AED 3,750. The closer a tutor works to the rubric, the more clearly that line has to be drawn, so here it is.

A tutor may read the rubric with the student, explain what each criterion rewards and what the next band requires, discuss and sharpen a research question or a choice of variable the student proposed, model structure using a different example, read the draft the student wrote and say where each criterion is currently scoring and why, and teach referencing, data handling and uncertainty properly.

A tutor may not write, rewrite, complete or edit the work to a finished state, and may not produce a worked version of the student's own question or investigation. Criterion-level feedback on the student's own words is legitimate and valuable. Supplying the words is malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student's whole diploma rather than one component.

Two further boundaries. We do not reproduce or supply IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; we reference them and link the official source. And ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, with the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also barring service to students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that wording as press-reported and verify it; we will not arrange it regardless.

08

Starting with the assessment rather than the subject

  • Bring the subject guide, one marked paper and any returned draft
  • Ask the trial tutor a command-term or criterion question directly
  • Expect a written list of the specific marks being lost
  • Review the list at four weeks; items should be gone

Collect three documents before you contact anybody. The subject guide your school uses, or at least its name and year. One recent marked paper. And the internal assessment draft with the teacher's comments on it, if one exists. Those three let a specialist say something specific in the first hour instead of spending it establishing where the student is.

Then ask the tutor one question in the trial lesson: explain the difference between two command terms in this subject, or tell me which criterion in this internal assessment carries the most marks. A specialist answers immediately. A general tutor talks about confidence and rapport. That single question sorts the market faster than any credential check, and it costs you nothing to ask.

Expect the first session to produce a written list rather than a feeling. The specific marks being lost, named by component and by operation: explanation phrasing in Paper 2, uncertainty in data questions, evaluation in the investigation. Everything after that aims at the list, and the list is also how you judge whether the arrangement is working.

Then review at four weeks against it. Items should be disappearing. If the list is unchanged after four weeks the diagnosis was wrong, and we change the plan or the specialist rather than defending the first choice. Ask any provider you are considering what their version of that answer is, and notice whether they have one ready. A serious provider has thought about it before you asked, because it is the obvious question and the honest answer costs them nothing.

Where we tutor

Al Mamsha and the Sharjah districts around it

These neighbouring districts share Al Mamsha's school access. The notes are about what each offers a family looking for subject-level support, which is mostly the same thing.

Al Mamsha

Walkable mixed-use development with apartments above retail, close to Muwaileh. Good school access by Sharjah standards and no local supply of Higher Level subject specialists, which is the normal position across the emirate.

Muwaileh

The adjacent school cluster, dense with teachers who are at work during the hours a tutor is needed. Proximity to a school cluster is not proximity to available expertise, which is the quiet lesson of this district.

University City

Campus district next door and the source of the budget tutor band. Genuinely useful for primary and Middle Years support and thin at Higher Level, which is the honest account of what a campus nearby provides.

Al Zahia

Master-planned community a short drive away with similar school access. Families here ask the same subject-level questions and face the same shortage of specialists in the same subjects.

Aljada

Newer mixed-use development with a growing school-age population. The subject-level need here skews towards Middle Years criteria work, because the cohort is younger than in the established districts.

Al Nouf

Inland residential Sharjah with a longer school run than Al Mamsha. The subject work is identical; only the hour at which a session can start differs, and it starts later.

Tilal City

Inland and still developing. For a narrow Higher Level option the nearest specialist is realistically nowhere near, which is true of Al Mamsha as well but more obviously so here.

Al Majaz

Central Sharjah on the lagoon, with a high share of Dubai commuters and later evenings. Subject-level sessions here often sit after six, which works perfectly well for a sixteen-year-old.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject and the level, exactly

Higher or Standard, and which mathematics route if that is the subject. We match one tutor to one subject at one level, because the weightings, the paper structures and the internal assessment criteria differ and the whole value of a specialist is knowing those without looking them up.

  2. 02

    Send the marked evidence

One recent marked paper, and the internal assessment draft with teacher comments if there is one. A marked script tells a specialist in two minutes what a description takes twenty to convey, and it is the difference between a first session that teaches and one that investigates.

  3. 03

A free trial that names the marks

The tutor sets a question cold, marks it against the mark scheme and produces a written list of the specific operations being failed, by component. Not a general impression. Nothing is paid before the trial, and the list is useful even if you go elsewhere with it.

  4. 04

    Sessions built on the list

Attempt, correct against the mark scheme phrase by phrase, redo the same question type. Content teaching only where the trial found a genuine gap, and prioritised by mark weight rather than by syllabus order. The list is reviewed in every session.

  5. 05

    Four-week review against the list

Items should be disappearing. If they are not, the diagnosis was wrong and we change the plan or the specialist straight away rather than running the term on it. That is the one failure in subject-level work that cannot be recovered at the end.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We publish the criterion letters

This page names the mark shares in a science investigation, the Extended Essay rubric and the Mathematics exploration, and tells you to verify them against your school's current guide. Not one competitor page in this research names a single criterion, which is why most students cannot allocate effort sensibly.

One tutor, one subject, one level

A Higher Level Physics specialist and a Standard Level Economics specialist are different people. Matching by year group or by availability is how a family ends up with a competent generalist who does not know which paper decides the grade.

Mark schemes, not reassurance

Sessions consist of a timed attempt, a line-by-line correction against the published mark scheme and a redo of the same question type. The redo is the part everyone skips and the part that converts understanding into a habit that survives exam pressure.

We tell you when a cheaper band is right

For Middle Years criteria work and primary support, the budget band next door in University City is often the correct purchase and we say so. A provider who recommends their most expensive option for every problem is describing their pricing, not your child.

No examiner claims we cannot evidence

We do not describe tutors as IB or Cambridge examiners, because examiner status is hard to verify for every individual and must never be used to imply access to marking or boundaries. Competitors in this market use the word freely and should be asked for evidence.

Rubrics cited, not asserted as permanent

Every mark allocation here comes with an instruction to check your school's current subject guide, because the IB revises guides. A page that presents weightings as fixed facts is a page that has not looked at a guide recently.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Mamsha: your questions answered

Which criterion carries the most marks in the Extended Essay?+

Critical thinking, and by a wide margin. The Extended Essay rubric runs to 34 marks across five criteria, and critical thinking accounts for 12 of them, more than focus and method and knowledge and understanding combined. That changes how the essay should be written: a narrow, genuinely arguable research question supports critical thinking, while a broad topic however well written cannot. Check the allocation against your school's current copy of the guide, because the IB revises rubrics, and then plan the essay around that criterion rather than around the word count.

How is an IB science internal assessment marked?+

Out of 24, across four criteria carrying equal weight: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The practical consequence is the useful part. Evaluation is the section students write last and fastest, and it carries a quarter of the available marks, so reversing the order of effort gains marks for no additional work. A tightly controlled single variable also scores better than an ambitious design that produces messy data. Confirm the current allocations against the subject guide your school uses.

Does my child really lose marks for the wrong command term?+

Yes, and it is one of the largest recoverable losses in the Diploma. The IB publishes command-term definitions and mark schemes apply them strictly: a question that says suggest will credit a reasoned possibility, while explain will not accept one and requires a causal mechanism. A student who writes everything they know scores for the question asked and nothing for the rest. Six past-paper questions on one topic with six different command terms, compared against the mark schemes, usually fixes the habit in two or three sessions.

What makes a Higher Level specialist different from a good subject teacher?+

Knowledge of the assessment rather than the subject. A specialist can tell you which component carries what share of the grade, which criterion letter holds the most marks in the internal assessment, and what the mark scheme accepts as an explanation in that subject. Test it directly in a trial lesson: ask them which criterion in your child's internal assessment carries the largest share, or to distinguish two command terms. A crisp answer tells you one thing, and talk about confidence and rapport tells you another.

How should past papers be used in a session?+

Three parts, and the third is the one everybody skips. Attempt cold and timed, because an untimed attempt measures knowledge rather than performance. Correct against the mark scheme with the tutor, phrase by phrase, identifying what the scheme wanted against what the student wrote. Then redo the same question type from scratch, which is what converts the correction into a habit. Choose questions by failing skill rather than working through whole papers, and save whole papers for the final fortnight when the thing being practised is pacing.

Can you give us official IB past papers and mark schemes?+

No, and nobody should. Those are IB materials and reproducing or distributing them is a copyright matter rather than a grey area, which also applies to syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables. We reference them, teach from them within a session and point to the official source so you can obtain them through your school in the normal way. If a provider offers you a bundle of official papers and mark schemes to keep, that tells you something about what else they treat as negotiable.

My child understands Chemistry but keeps losing marks. Where do we start?+

With a marked paper rather than with the syllabus. In Higher Level Chemistry the recurring losses are concentrated in two places: uncertainty handled as a mention rather than propagated through a calculation, and cumulative gaps where energetics or equilibrium were never secure and now break the organic mechanisms. Uncertainty alone is worth two sessions, because it appears in every data-based question on every paper. A trial lesson on a marked script will tell you which of those two you have inside an hour.

Is Biology really about terminology?+

To a greater extent than any other science, yes. Biology mark schemes frequently name the exact term required, and an answer that is loosely correct earns nothing. The mechanism behind most Biology underperformance is that students revise from notes written in their own words and then reproduce those words under examination conditions. The correction is to revise from mark schemes rather than notes, learning the phrasing the scheme uses. It is unglamorous, it feels like rote learning, and it reliably moves grades.

How much does a Higher Level specialist cost in Sharjah?+

Published rates read in October 2026 put an IB specialist at AED 200 to 450 an hour and above, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table in the same range. A qualified subject tutor online sits at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200, and Bestimate's monthly estimate for specialist examination-year support is AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Those are the providers' own figures. For ours, take the free trial lesson and ask against the specific subject and level.

Is the budget band ever adequate for the Diploma?+

For Middle Years criteria work and primary support, frequently yes, and University City next to Al Mamsha supplies a lot of it at roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour. For Higher Level criterion-level feedback on an internal assessment, no. Reading a rubric band descriptor against a student's own draft and saying precisely what the next band requires is a skill acquired by having marked the thing before, and enthusiasm does not substitute for it. We will tell you which of the two situations you are in.

What is the fastest improvement available in a Diploma subject?+

Command-term discipline, almost always, because it is mechanical and affects every paper in every subject. After that, in the sciences, learning the standard explanations verbatim from mark schemes, and handling uncertainty properly in data questions. In Economics and Business Management, applying theory to the specific case rather than writing a textbook answer about a generic firm. None of those require new content. All of them are habits, and habits change in weeks rather than terms.

How do we fix a weak Extended Essay research question?+

Early, in one session, and not at all once drafting is advanced. The rubric rewards critical thinking above everything else, and critical thinking requires a question narrow enough to argue about and open enough to have more than one defensible answer. A question that is really a topic produces a descriptive essay that cannot score in the upper bands however carefully it is written. A session in July on the question itself is the single highest-return hour in the whole Extended Essay process.

Can a tutor mark my child's internal assessment draft?+

A tutor can read it against the criterion letters and tell you where each criterion is currently scoring and what the next band requires, in writing, which is close to the most useful thing available. What they cannot do is write, rewrite, complete or edit it to a finished state, or produce a worked version of your child's own investigation. Criterion-level feedback on the student's own words is legitimate. Supplying the words is malpractice, and the risk falls on the entire diploma rather than one component.

Do you use tutors who are IB examiners?+

We do not describe tutors that way, deliberately. Examiner status is difficult to evidence for every individual, it changes from session to session, and it must never be used to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. Several providers in this market use the word freely and should be asked to evidence it. What we do claim is specific and checkable: how many full assessment cycles a tutor has taught of a named subject at a named level. Ask us that question, and ask it of everyone else.

Which is harder, Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation?+

They are differently hard and the real question is which one the universities your child is considering expect. Analysis and Approaches is algebra-heavy with proof at Higher Level and is the route most engineering, mathematics and physics courses assume. Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistics with the calculator genuinely examinable, and suits many economics, business and social-science routes. Choosing for comfort rather than for requirements is the error, and it is expensive because a mid-course change is close to impossible.

Bring a marked paper, not a worry

If you are looking for an IB home tutor in Al Mamsha, the most useful thing you can send is not a description of the problem but the evidence of it. One recent marked paper, the internal assessment draft with the teacher's comments if there is one, and the name of the subject guide your school uses. We will match a specialist in that subject at that level, and the free trial lesson will produce a written list of the specific operations being failed, named by component: explanation phrasing in Paper 2, uncertainty in data questions, evaluation in the investigation. Every session afterwards aims at that list, and at four weeks we check it. Lessons are live, one-to-one and online.
