IB Home Tutor in Al Hamra Village

Families looking for an IB home tutor in Al Hamra Village are comparing a short list against a long one. The short list is whoever will drive into a gated coastal community in Ras Al Khaimah on a weekday evening. The long one is every Diploma specialist reachable by live video. This page sets Al Hamra Village beside Mina Al Arab and Al Marjan Island, shows where the differences are real, and explains why the answer comes out the same in all three. IB Gram teaches here online, one-to-one.

  • IB Diploma and Middle Years subjects with Higher and Standard Level specialists
  • Private schools in Ras Al Khaimah are regulated by the Department of Knowledge
  • Market monthly spend for weekly one-to-one runs roughly AED 600-2,000

IB & IGCSE in Al Hamra Village

Al Hamra Village, Mina Al Arab, Al Marjan Island: one question, one answer

Al Hamra Village sits on the coast south of Ras Al Khaimah city, a gated mix of villas, townhouses and apartments arranged around a golf course, a marina and a mall, with a British-curriculum campus inside the community itself. Mina Al Arab lies a short drive north along the same coast road, lower density and newer in parts. Al Marjan Island reaches out into the Gulf on reclaimed land, dominated by hotels and resort residences. Three distinct places with three distinct feels, and almost no difference at all in the thing this page is about.

What differs between them is logistics. Gate access and visitor registration vary. Approach roads vary. The share of households who commute into the city or further south towards Umm Al Quwain and Dubai varies, and that in turn moves the earliest realistic session start by half an hour either way. If you are comparing communities for a house move, those differences are worth weighing.

What does not differ is the supply of people who have taught IB Higher Level Chemistry to an examination class. Ras Al Khaimah is a northern emirate with its own regulator and a comparatively small private-school sector, concentrated around Al Nakheel, Al Hamra and Mina Al Arab. The number of adults inside the emirate who have marked Higher Level papers in any given Diploma subject is small, and it is the same small number whether your villa is in Al Hamra Village or on Al Marjan Island. Driving ten minutes north does not change it.

That is the comparison worth making before any money moves. For a Middle Years student who needs homework structure and someone to sit beside them, a competent local generalist is perfectly adequate and proximity is a genuine benefit. For a Diploma student eighteen months from a session, with a Higher Level Chemistry Internal Assessment to plan and an Extended Essay question to narrow, the question is not who is within a ten-minute drive. It is who knows what the criteria pay for. There is also a sibling effect worth naming: a household running a Middle Years student and a Diploma student at once needs two different kinds of help, and buying the same thing for both is how families overspend on this coast.

So here is the honest position. Lessons for Al Hamra Village students are delivered one-to-one over live video, on a shared screen, timed to Gulf Standard Time around the local school day. IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in Ras Al Khaimah or anywhere else in the UAE; visiting in person is a service we run only in India. What that trade buys a family on this coast is the pick of the Diploma teaching rather than the pick of the local traffic, and in an emirate this size that is not a marginal gain.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The IB runs as four distinct programmes and a family in Al Hamra Village may meet three of them. Each has a different assessment logic, and mistaking one for another is the most common planning error we see on this coast.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-school to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with no external examinations and no grades in the conventional sense. Progress is reported against learning outcomes and the final year culminates in an Exhibition. Tutoring at this stage is almost never about content; it is about reading fluency, number facts and the ability to work independently for twenty minutes. Those three predict how the Middle Years transition goes far better than any PYP report does.

Al Hamra Village families with primary-age children usually have the shortest school run of anyone in this comparison, with a campus inside the community. The useful question at this stage is whether the child can read a question and plan an answer unaided, because the Middle Years Programme assumes both.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Assessed internally against criteria A to D, with published descriptors rather than percentages, plus a Personal Project in the final year. The gap it leaves is timed external examination technique, because many students reach the Diploma having never sat a formal paper under conditions. Interdisciplinary units and criterion-based feedback are excellent preparation for thinking and poor preparation for a clock.

Ask the school in Ras Al Khaimah which programmes it is authorised to deliver and at which year groups, because provision in the northern emirates is thinner than in Dubai and a family may need to plan a move for the Diploma years. That is a Year 10 conversation, not a Year 11 one.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, usually three at Higher Level and three at Standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay at a 4,000-word limit, and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment marked against named criteria with published mark allocations. The Diploma is scored out of 45, and the gap between a predicted score and a final one is usually explained by the internally assessed components rather than the papers.

UAE schools sit the May session, with a November option where the school offers it. This page publishes no specific IB examination or results date, because the IB's own site cannot be checked automatically; your coordinator holds the internal deadline sheet, and that is the document a tutoring plan should follow.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Diploma courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Less common in the UAE than the Diploma but a genuine fit for students who want two or three academic subjects at depth alongside applied study. The reflective project has its own criteria and its own school deadline, and it is routinely underestimated.

Where a Ras Al Khaimah school offers the Career-related Programme, the practical tutoring need is usually in the Diploma courses taken alongside it, most often a language and a mathematics course. Confirm with the school which components are internally and which externally assessed before planning support.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects Ras Al Khaimah families most often cannot source locally at Higher Level, with the component that decides the grade in each.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms separate the grades, and the Internal Assessment needs working data before any analysis can begin. Students who leave data collection until the second year are the single most common rescue request on this coast, and it is the hardest one to answer well.

Physics

HL and SL

Fields and circular motion are the recurring content weaknesses, while uncertainty and error analysis decide marks in both the papers and the Internal Assessment. A student who can describe an experiment but cannot propagate an uncertainty is losing marks twice over, which makes that skill unusually good value.

Biology

HL and SL

A content-volume subject where the mark scheme pays for precise terminology rather than general understanding. The Internal Assessment rewards a tightly controlled investigation over an ambitious one, and the most useful tutoring intervention is usually narrowing the research question before any data is collected.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency decides the Higher Level grade more than any single topic does. The Exploration carries its own school deadline and its own criteria, and the hardest part is finding a topic with genuine mathematics in it rather than an application dressed up as one.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics and technology-led modelling, and a better fit than Analysis and Approaches for many students. The route decision has to be made before the option form goes in, because some university courses specify Analysis and Approaches by name. Check the target course requirements first.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Individual Oral has a school recording window and the Higher Level Essay has internal draft deadlines, both landing while science Internal Assessments are being written. Analytical precision on an unseen extract is the teachable skill here, and it transfers directly to the examination papers.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy decides the analysis marks, and evaluation paragraphs that actually weigh competing effects decide the top band. The internally assessed commentaries are spread across the course, which means they are also spread across every other deadline the student has.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool-led, so the discipline is applying the right framework to the right stimulus rather than listing frameworks. Higher Level candidates meet a research-based component with its own word limit and criteria. Students who write generally about a company rather than answering with data lose the application marks.

Environmental Systems and Societies

HL and SL

Taken by many students as a dual-subject option, which hides how much terminology and systems thinking it demands. Marks are lost on the difference between a named case study and a general example, which is a fixable habit rather than a knowledge gap.

Arabic and Islamic Education alongside the Diploma

School-set courses

UAE private schools teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside the licensed international curriculum, as the federal baseline requires. Support here means working with the school's own material and assessment, since using different or additional content without ministry permission is not allowed.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements work in a community like Al Hamra Village, and the right one depends far more on how far away the session is than on the student's personality.

Weekly Higher Level subject support

One or two one-hour sessions a week with the same specialist, covering the school's topic sequence slightly ahead of the class so lessons act as consolidation rather than first exposure. The right format for a Diploma student with a term or more to go, and the only one that reliably shifts more than a point or two in a subject grade.

  • Topic order taken from the school's own scheme of work
  • Internal Assessment milestones mapped into the plan early
  • Progress judged on the student's own paper scores

Component coaching on the student's own work

Short blocks aimed at an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay. The tutor explains the criteria, questions the student's plan, and responds to the student's own draft. Nothing is written for them, and that boundary is stated to the student as well as the parent at the first session.

  • Criteria explained letter by letter, with the mark allocations
  • Research question narrowed before any data is collected
  • Feedback on the student's draft, never a rewrite

Pre-session intensive

Six to ten weeks of two or three sessions a week, built from timed past-paper sections marked against the published scheme. No new teaching unless a gap is blocking a paper. Suits a student whose understanding is broadly in place but whose marks do not reflect it, which is most students at this stage.

  • Timed sections weekly, under examination conditions
  • Marks tracked by topic rather than by overall percentage
  • A deliberate taper in the final fortnight

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Hamra Village

Al Hamra Village against the next community along: what genuinely differs

Put the three coastal communities side by side and the differences are real but narrow. Al Hamra Village is a mature gated community with a school inside it, a mall, a marina and a golf course, which means a short school run and an evening that is not spent in a car. Mina Al Arab is newer in parts, lower density, with its own beach frontage and a slightly shorter inbound drive from the city. Al Marjan Island is resort-dominated, apartment-heavy, with the most involved visitor access of the three.

For a family weighing a house move those distinctions matter. For a family weighing a tutoring arrangement they almost all collapse into one variable: how late an in-home session has to start, and therefore how tired the student is when it does. The table below sets that out column by column. Read across any row and the differences appear; read down the final column and they disappear entirely, because an online session starts when the student is ready rather than when the traffic allows.

There is one difference worth taking seriously, and it runs the other way from what parents expect. The communities with the easiest access and the best local schooling are also where the local tutoring pool is already fully booked. Al Nakheel has more schools and more teachers within reach, which means the few people in the emirate who have taught Higher Level Physics are already teaching every evening they have free. Being close to the supply does not help when the supply is committed.

So the recommendation for Al Hamra Village is the same as the recommendation for Mina Al Arab or Al Marjan Island. Stop shortlisting by who can reach the gate. Shortlist by subject and level, ask each candidate which Higher Level papers they have actually taught and which Internal Assessment criteria they can recite, and have them respond to a piece of your child's marked work before you commit to a term.

The scarcity problem, stated plainly rather than sold around

Ras Al Khaimah is a northern emirate with its own education regulator and a private-school sector concentrated in a handful of locations. That is not a criticism of the schools, several of which are well established and long-standing. It is an arithmetic observation about adult supply. A subject taught at Higher Level in a small number of settings produces a small number of teachers experienced in it, and a fraction of those are available for private work after a full teaching day.

Competitors in this market do not say this. The researched pages for the northern emirates either ignore Ras Al Khaimah entirely or imply the same depth of coverage they claim for Dubai. Several route enquiries to numbers outside the UAE without disclosing it. We would rather state the constraint, because a family that understands it makes a better decision and because the constraint is precisely what online delivery exists to solve.

The practical shape of the problem looks like this. Generalist support for Middle Years students is reasonably available locally. Mathematics at Standard Level is usually findable. Higher Level Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches are not, and neither is experienced Internal Assessment supervision in those subjects, which is the thing a second-year Diploma student most needs. Internal Assessment coaching requires someone who knows the criteria and the mark allocations in that specific subject, and generic study support cannot substitute.

This is also why we will tell an Al Hamra Village family when we cannot match a request well. Some narrow combinations - a particular Higher Level science with a particular component deadline close to a session - have thin availability even online. The options then are a different time slot that opens a wider pool, a short diagnostic block with a specialist followed by weekly work with a strong generalist, or a recommendation to wait. None of those is as satisfying as yes. All of them beat discovering a mismatch in week three of a term you have already paid for.

03

What IB tutoring costs here, read as a monthly number

Hourly rates are how tutors quote and monthly totals are how families actually experience the cost, so start with the month. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session put budget support at AED 240-600, mid-tier at AED 600-1,200, and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 and above. Packaged offers seen across the market sit inside that frame: AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. The in-home monthly figure is roughly double the online one for half as many sessions.

Unpack that into hourly terms and the bands are these, all of them providers' own published rates read in October 2026. Budget online tutoring, usually delivered by university students or recent graduates, is advertised from AED 45-65 by EdFlik and from AED 33-52 by Tutopiya. Qualified subject tutors online run roughly AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Named IB and A Level specialists sit at AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase listing AED 270. In-home one-to-one visits run roughly AED 180-350 on Bestimate's table and up to AED 500 from independent home tutors. Examiner-led premium work reaches AED 650 at BartyED.

Now stretch it across a Diploma. Two Higher Level subjects supported weekly for the two years of the Diploma, at mid-tier monthly rates, is a four-figure monthly commitment sustained over roughly eighteen teaching months. Most families do not need that and should not buy it. The pattern that works is dense support at the pressure points - the transition into the Diploma, the Internal Assessment planning window, the run-in to the session - and nothing in between. Three well-placed blocks cost a fraction of continuous tuition and usually achieve more.

What IB Gram does not do is publish an invented price list or quote in a currency Ras Al Khaimah families do not transact in. Two of the pages competing for this search quote US dollars; three publish no price at all, and one of those refuses to answer its own pricing question in its own FAQ. Our position is a free trial lesson first, then a consultation that produces a plan with a shape and a finish line, and a quote against that plan rather than against a theoretical hour.

Higher Level or Standard Level, and when that is really decided

A Diploma student picks six subjects and takes three at Higher Level, and that choice is made before the first Diploma term rather than during it. It is the decision with the longest shadow. Higher Level means more teaching hours, more syllabus content, additional assessment components in several subjects, and the possibility of a university offer that specifies it. Standard Level means a manageable load and, in some subjects, a closed door at university level.

The table below compares the two across the dimensions that matter for planning rather than the ones a prospectus mentions. The row families most often skip is the last one: the right-fit signal from prior attainment. A student who found Middle Years science comfortable rather than easy will usually do better taking it at Standard Level and spending the saved hours on a Higher Level subject they are genuinely strong in. Three Higher Levels chosen by ambition rather than by evidence is the most common cause of a mid-Diploma crisis.

There is a second-order effect on Internal Assessments. Higher Level courses frequently carry extra components or a longer, more demanding internally assessed task, and every one of those has a school deadline. A student with three Higher Levels is carrying three heavier internal workloads through the same two terms as the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay. The subject choice therefore decides the calendar as well as the content, and the calendar is what breaks first.

For an Al Hamra Village family the practical move is to have this conversation in the second half of Year 11, with the school, armed with actual marks rather than impressions, and with the target university requirements checked. Where a change is needed after the Diploma begins, it is usually possible early in the first year and increasingly difficult after that. A short diagnostic block with a specialist in the subject under question is a cheap way to get evidence before the decision rather than regret after it.

05

The Internal Assessment, criterion by criterion

  • Criteria are lettered with published maximum marks; read them before planning
  • Narrowing the research question is worth more than any amount of write-up polish
  • Data or sources first, writing second, in that order
  • A tutor questions and feeds back; the student writes every word
  • Ask any prospective tutor to name the criteria for your child's subject

Every Diploma subject carries an internally assessed component, marked by the school against the IB's published criteria and then moderated. Those criteria are lettered, each carries a stated maximum, and the total is a meaningful share of the subject grade. A student who has read the criteria and written against them is operating with information. A student who writes a good piece of work and hopes is not, and the second student is far more common.

This is the single largest uncontested gap in this search market. Of the competitor pages researched for the UAE clusters, not one names a single assessment criterion by letter with its mark allocation. Parents are told that Internal Assessment support is available; nobody tells them what the Internal Assessment is marked on. The practical consequence is that families cannot tell a tutor who knows the component from one who has heard of it.

The useful work on a component is sequenced. First, read the criteria aloud with the student and translate each one into a question the finished piece must answer. Second, narrow the research question until the investigation is actually doable with the equipment and the time available, which in science subjects is where most marks are won or lost. Third, collect or gather the material. Only then write. Students who write first and fit the criteria afterwards produce work that reads well and scores in the middle.

And the boundary, stated plainly because this market needs it stated. A tutor may explain the criteria, ask questions about the plan, point out that a conclusion does not follow from the data, and give written feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not write any part of it, rewrite prose, supply data, or edit it to completion. Nobody at IB Gram will do those things. A site currently ranking on these searches advertises completed Internal Assessments for sale; that is an academic-honesty breach with consequences that fall on the student, not the seller.

06

Who regulates your child's school, and why it is not a tutoring credential

Private schools in Ras Al Khaimah are regulated by the emirate's Department of Knowledge, which regulates private education in the emirate and, like Sharjah's authority, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is a broader remit than inspection alone, and it is worth knowing because it means curriculum and fee questions have a local answer rather than a federal one.

The full map matters for families who move within the UAE, which on this coast is common. Dubai's private schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in that emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah sit with the federal Ministry of Education, which plays a supervising role in those three emirates. Five bodies, one country, and a different inspection framework in each.

Here is the part that needs saying on a tutoring page. None of those regulators approves, accredits or licenses a tutoring platform by virtue of regulating schools. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from the Department of Knowledge, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge or Pearson, and has no office in the UAE. Any page implying otherwise is making a claim it cannot evidence.

What is genuinely checkable is the individual tutor's permit. Private tutoring runs through a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, covering school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The ministry lists the service with no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and states that those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so ignore any figure you see quoted.

07

What a first term of support should actually produce

Tutoring that cannot be judged tends to continue indefinitely, which suits the provider and nobody else. So agree at the outset what the first block is supposed to produce and how you will know. For a Diploma student the honest measures are narrow and checkable: a named topic that was costing marks and no longer is, a research question narrowed from unworkable to doable, a timed paper score that has moved in a specific component.

What is not a measure is the student feeling more confident, or the sessions going well, or the tutor being lovely. Those are necessary and insufficient. A student can enjoy a term of tuition, like the tutor a great deal, and sit the same paper in May having improved nothing, because the sessions never once put them under time pressure and marked the result against the published scheme.

So the structure we propose for an Al Hamra Village family is a block with an end date. Six to eight sessions, a stated target, a written review at the end, and an explicit decision about whether to continue. Where the answer is no, say so; a block that achieved its target and stopped is a success rather than a lost customer. Where the answer is a different tutor rather than a different plan, say that too, early, because the only thing lost by changing at week three is less than what is lost by changing at week twelve.

The review itself takes ten minutes and needs three things in front of you: the marked work from the start of the block, the marked work from the end, and the target you wrote down. If the first and the second look the same, the plan was wrong or the match was wrong, and both are fixable. That discipline is worth more to a family on this coast than any amount of enthusiasm about engagement.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Hamra Village

These are the communities a family in Al Hamra Village is realistically comparing themselves against, and what each one changes about a tutoring arrangement.

Mina Al Arab

The nearest comparable coastal community, a short run north on the same road. Lower density in parts, with its own retail and beach frontage. For tutoring purposes the only meaningful difference is that the inbound drive from the city is slightly shorter.

Al Marjan Island

Reclaimed islands reaching into the Gulf, heavily resort-oriented with a high share of apartments and serviced residences. Visitor access is the most involved of any community in this list, which is precisely the friction an online session removes.

Al Nakheel

The central district where much of the emirate's private-school and commercial activity concentrates. Families here have the shortest school run and the widest choice of local tuition, which is also where the local pool is already fully committed.

Al Dhait

Inland residential districts, north and south, with established villa neighbourhoods. The drive out to the coast is real but unremarkable; the subject-specialist shortage is identical to the coast's.

Khuzam

Another inland residential area close to the city centre with schooling within reach. A family here and a family in Al Hamra Village will receive the same answer to the same Higher Level question, which is the point of this page.

Julphar and Al Qusaidat

Older districts closer to the creek and the original town. Through-traffic slows the late afternoon considerably, so an in-home session that starts on time here is the exception rather than the rule.

Al Jazirah Al Hamra and Al Mamourah

The historic village area and the residential districts behind it, low density with small school-age populations. Group revision classes rarely assemble at a single subject and level here, so one-to-one is the practical format.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject, the level and the component

Higher Level Chemistry, Internal Assessment planning stage, second term of the first Diploma year is a brief we can act on. Needs help with science is not. The level and the live component together determine which specialists are worth putting in front of you.

  2. 02

Send the school's deadline sheet and one marked piece

The deadline sheet tells us where the pressure falls; the marked work tells us whether the problem is content, technique or component understanding. Ten minutes with both produces a better plan than an hour of conversation, and neither costs anything.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson over live video

One 45 to 60-minute one-to-one session, no card details, no obligation afterwards. Watch for two things: whether the tutor diagnoses before explaining, and whether your child does most of the talking. A trial in which the tutor lectures is a preview of the term.

  4. 04

Agree a block with a target and an end date

Six to eight sessions, a stated goal, a written review at the end and a real decision about continuing. Open-ended weekly bookings drift into subscriptions that nobody evaluates. Blocks with finish lines can be judged, repeated or stopped.

Review on marked evidence, then decide

Put the marked work from the start and the end of the block side by side against the target you wrote down. If nothing moved, change the plan or change the tutor, and do it early. We would rather lose a block than carry a mismatch through a Diploma year.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The emirate's constraint named, not hidden

Ras Al Khaimah has a small private-school sector and genuinely thin local supply of Higher Level subject specialists. We say so on the page. Competitor pages either omit the northern emirates or imply Dubai-level coverage, and several route enquiries to numbers outside the UAE without disclosure.

Specialist match rather than drive-time match

Working online, an Al Hamra Village family chooses from everyone who teaches that subject at that level rather than from those willing to reach a gated community at 5pm. In an emirate this size that is the difference between a specialist and whoever is available.

Criteria quoted, not alluded to

We will name the assessment criteria for your child's Internal Assessment and the marks attached to each. Not one of the competitor pages researched for these searches names a single criterion by letter, which is why parents cannot tell expertise from familiarity.

A hard boundary on assessed work

Feedback on the student's own draft, questions about their plan, explanation of the criteria. No writing, no rewriting, no supplied data, no completion. One site ranking on these queries sells finished Internal Assessments; the risk in that transaction sits entirely with the student.

Money quoted as the market's, with sources and a date

Every AED figure here is a named provider's published rate or a published market table, read in October 2026, in the currency families actually use. We publish no invented IB Gram rate card, and no price in US dollars.

No regulator or board claims

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from the Department of Knowledge, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and occupies no UAE office. We explain what each body does and point you to it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Hamra Village: your questions answered

Will a tutor come to our villa in Al Hamra Village?+

Not from IB Gram. We teach Al Hamra Village students one-to-one over live video, and visiting a student at their address is a service we run only in India. Independent tutors and agencies do advertise in-home visits in Ras Al Khaimah, with market rates for in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180-350 on Bestimate's 2026 table and up to AED 500 from some independents. The trade is specialism against presence, and in an emirate with a small pool of Higher Level teachers the specialism is usually worth more.

Is the tutoring situation different in Mina Al Arab or on Al Marjan Island?+

Only in the logistics. Gate access, approach roads and the realistic earliest start time for an in-home session differ by half an hour or so across the three communities. The supply of people who have taught Higher Level Chemistry or Mathematics Analysis and Approaches to an examination class is identical, because it is an emirate-wide pool and it is small. Once lessons are on a screen the community stops mattering entirely and the only remaining question is whether the tutor knows the component your child is being assessed on.

How much should a Ras Al Khaimah family budget each month for IB support?+

Read it monthly rather than hourly. Bestimate's published monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 240-600 for budget support, AED 600-1,200 mid-tier, and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Packages seen in the market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Those are providers' own published figures read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices. Our own plan and quote follow the free trial lesson and a consultation.

Why is it so hard to find a Higher Level science tutor in Ras Al Khaimah?+

Arithmetic rather than anything else. The emirate has a comparatively small private-school sector concentrated around Al Nakheel, Al Hamra and Mina Al Arab. A subject taught at Higher Level in a handful of settings produces a handful of teachers experienced in it, and only some of those take private work after a full teaching day. The pool is the same whether you live on the coast or inland, which is exactly why remote one-to-one matters more here than it does in Dubai, where the same subject is taught in a great many schools.

Which body regulates private schools in Ras Al Khaimah?+

The emirate's Department of Knowledge, which regulates private education in Ras Al Khaimah and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is a wider remit than inspection, so curriculum and fee questions have a local answer here. Dubai's schools answer to KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to ADEK, Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah to the federal Ministry of Education. None of those bodies accredits a tutoring platform, and IB Gram claims no approval from any of them.

What exactly can a tutor do with my child's Internal Assessment?+

Explain the assessment criteria and the marks attached to each, ask questions about the plan and the method, point out where a conclusion is not supported by the data, and give written feedback on the student's own draft. What a tutor cannot do is write any part of it, rewrite the prose, supply data or edit it to completion. Nobody at IB Gram will. Submitted work has to be the student's own and the consequences of a breach land on the student, which is why any provider selling completed assessments should be read as a warning.

Should my child take three Higher Levels if they are capable of it?+

Capable of it and well served by it are different questions. Higher Level means more teaching hours, additional syllabus topics, extra assessment components in several subjects and a heavier internally assessed workload, all landing in the same two terms as the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay. Three Higher Levels chosen by ambition rather than by evidence of prior attainment is the most common cause of a mid-Diploma crisis. Check the target university requirements first, then choose from marks rather than from aspiration.

Does online one-to-one actually suit a Diploma student?+

For component and paper work it suits it unusually well. A shared screen both people annotate, the student's own draft or marked paper open, and the published criteria beside it is a better working surface than a kitchen table, and the annotations survive the session. Where physical presence genuinely matters is younger children and students who need an adult managing attention in the room. A sixteen-year-old narrowing a research question or working through a timed paper section does not need anyone sitting next to them.

When should we start thinking about the Extended Essay?+

In the first Diploma year, while there is slack in the calendar. The Extended Essay runs to a 4,000-word limit and the school sets staged draft deadlines, which collide in the second year with science Internal Assessment write-ups, the Theory of Knowledge essay and oral components in language subjects. Students who enter the second year with a narrowed research question, a supervisor relationship that works and some reading done are in a wholly different position from those who enter it with a title. The topic choice is the part worth slowing down on.

Do private tutors in Ras Al Khaimah need a licence?+

Individuals need a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years and covers school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The ministry lists the service with no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and states that those tutoring without a permit face fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine amounts are published, so disregard any figure quoted online.

What should six sessions of IB support have produced by the end?+

By marked evidence against a target you wrote down, not by how the sessions feel. Agree a block of six to eight sessions with a specific goal: a named topic no longer costing marks, a research question narrowed to something doable, a timed paper score moving in a defined component. At the end, put the marked work from the start and the finish side by side. If they look the same, change the plan or change the tutor, and do it at week three rather than week twelve.

Can the same tutor take two of my child's Diploma subjects?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, but do not optimise for it. A mathematician who also teaches Physics at Higher Level exists and is genuinely useful, because the overlap in mechanics and calculus is real. A single tutor covering Chemistry and English is almost always a generalist wearing two hats, and the Internal Assessment coaching in both will be shallow. Depth in the component matters more than convenience in the schedule, especially in the second Diploma year when every subject has a live deadline.

What if you cannot find the right specialist for us?+

We will say so. Some combinations are genuinely thin: a specific Higher Level science close to a session, with a component deadline, at a particular time of day. The realistic options are moving the session slot to open a wider pool of tutors, running a short diagnostic block with a specialist and then weekly work with a strong generalist, or waiting for availability. We would rather give you one of those answers than substitute a generalist and let the mismatch emerge in week three of a term.

Can sessions work around a school day on this coast and around Ramadan?+

Yes. Students in Al Hamra Village with a campus inside the community are often home early, which makes a mid-afternoon session practical in a way it is not for families commuting from the city. Later slots to around 9pm work where a parent wants to be in the room. During Ramadan sessions move after Iftar and usually shorten to around 45 minutes, which holds concentration better than a full hour at the wrong time. Plan that shift before the month starts rather than rescheduling week by week.

Compare the communities if you are moving house, not if you are choosing a tutor

Al Hamra Village, Mina Al Arab and Al Marjan Island differ in access, density and view. They do not differ in how many people in this emirate have taught your child's Higher Level subject to an examination class, and that is the number a tutoring decision turns on. So send us the subject, the level, the live component and one piece of marked work, and take the free trial lesson before you commit to anything. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. If we cannot match the specialism properly, we will tell you that instead.
