IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Hamra Village

Searching for an IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Hamra Village usually means a family is standing on the join between two qualifications. A student finishes IGCSE papers in June and starts a Diploma in September, and the ten weeks in between are the most underused in UAE schooling. This page maps that handover month by month and subject by subject: which gaps close easily, which take a term, and what the calendar demands on each side. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

  • Both sides of the join: Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE into IB Diploma and MYP
  • IGCSE results arrive in August; the Diploma starts before they are digested
  • Diploma internal deadlines are set by the school, not by the IB
  • Blocks with a stated target and an end date, not rolling weekly bookings

IB & IGCSE in Al Hamra Village

The join between two qualifications is a date, not a subject

There is a specific week in a UAE school career when a student stops being an IGCSE candidate and becomes a Diploma student. In practice it falls in June, when the last paper is sat, and the consequences land in September, when six new courses start at once. Between those two points is a summer that most families treat as a holiday and a handful treat as the cheapest academic advantage available. This page is written for the second group and for anyone who wants to join it.

Start with what the two qualifications actually ask. IGCSE is terminal in most subjects: two or three written papers, no coursework, a grade decided in a hall. Cambridge runs June and November series for international centres; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Preparation is therefore front-to-back revision and timed-paper technique, and it finishes cleanly. The Diploma is the opposite shape. Six subjects over two years, each with an internally assessed component marked against published criteria, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay at a 4,000-word limit and Creativity, Activity, Service. Work accumulates from the first month and almost all of its deadlines are set by the school.

That difference in shape is why the transition catches strong students. A child who got a grade 8 in Chemistry 0620 by revising hard in the spring arrives at Higher Level Chemistry where the first consequential task is choosing an Internal Assessment question and collecting workable data, which rewards nothing they practised. A student who is good at exams is not automatically good at projects with distant deadlines, and nobody tells them so in the summer when it could be fixed.

The dates themselves are published and checkable on the IGCSE side. Pearson's June 2026 International GCSE results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026. Its November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. On the IB side this page deliberately publishes no specific examination or results date, because the IB's own site cannot be checked automatically and a wrong date on a planning page is a real harm. UAE schools sit the May session with November available, and your coordinator holds the internal deadline sheet, which is the document that actually governs a Diploma year.

So the brief we work to for a family in Al Hamra Village is this: close the subject gaps in the summer, install project habits before the Diploma needs them, and get the Internal Assessment and Extended Essay decisions made in the first Diploma year rather than the second. IB Gram teaches here one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; we do not place a tutor at a UAE address, and visiting students in person is a service we run only in India. In an emirate with a small pool of Diploma specialists, that is what makes the handover coachable at all.

At a glance

  • IGCSE is terminal and revision-led; the Diploma is cumulative and project-led
  • The ten weeks after the June papers are the cheapest bridging window available
  • Maths route choice between Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation is made before the Diploma starts
  • Arabic and Islamic education do not count among the five IGCSE subjects the Ministry requires
  • No unverified IB date appears on this page, by design

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A handover family is dealing with two systems at once. These four are the ones in play around Al Hamra Village, and each has one feature that matters more than the rest of its prospectus.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Subject-by-subject, terminal in most courses, with codes that decide which past papers are the right ones: 0580 Mathematics, 0606 Additional Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology. Tiered subjects set a grade ceiling at entry. For a student heading to the Diploma the significant point is that Extended-tier content, not Core, is what the next qualification assumes.

Confirm the centre's Cambridge timetable zone with the school; Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and says it is essential to use the correct version. For a Ras Al Khaimah family that also means confirming whether the school continues into Years 12 and 13 at all, which is a Year 10 question.

iGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

May/June and November sittings, codes such as 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1, with a modular pattern available on some courses so units can be banked across sittings. Grades on the 9-1 scale. For the Diploma transition the useful detail is that Pearson's Mathematics A and B routes differ in algebraic demand, and a Diploma maths course assumes the more demanding one.

Work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date. The published history is a safe guide: the November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the following day.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-assessed against descriptors A to D with a Personal Project in the final year. A student arriving at the Diploma from the Middle Years Programme has the opposite problem from an IGCSE student: they are comfortable with extended projects and criteria, and unpractised at timed external papers. Both routes need bridging, in different directions.

Where a Ras Al Khaimah family moves between an IGCSE school and an IB school, the two curricula sequence topics differently and there will be genuine content gaps in maths and science. Those are findable in a diagnostic session and closeable in a summer, provided someone looks.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three usually at Higher Level, scored out of 45, with an internally assessed component in every subject plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay at a 4,000-word limit, and Creativity, Activity, Service. The gap between a predicted and a final score is usually explained by the internal components rather than by the written papers, which is where a first-year plan should concentrate.

UAE schools sit the May session with November available where offered. Ask the coordinator for the internal deadline sheet in the first autumn term: it governs the Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay milestones, the Theory of Knowledge essay and the oral recording windows, and it is the only calendar a tutoring plan should follow.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects where the IGCSE-to-Diploma gap is widest for students on this coast, with what actually has to be bridged in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Assumes Extended-tier algebraic fluency and rewards it continuously. The real gap from 0580 is not topics but speed: a student who rearranges equations slowly will survive Standard Level and struggle at Higher. Additional Mathematics 0606 is the best possible preparation and its absence is the gap most worth closing in a summer.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics-led and technology-led, and the better fit for many students arriving from a Core or a mid-Extended 0580. The decision between this and Analysis and Approaches has to be made before the Diploma begins, because some university courses specify the latter by name. Check the target courses first.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Mole arithmetic from 0620 transfers directly and is assumed to be automatic. Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms are new depth rather than new topics. The genuine novelty is the Internal Assessment: a self-designed investigation with its own criteria, which rewards nothing an IGCSE candidate practised.

Physics

HL and SL

Fields and circular motion are new; the serious gap is quantitative. Uncertainty propagation and error analysis are assumed from the first term and are barely touched at IGCSE, and they carry marks in both the papers and the Internal Assessment. Six summer sessions on uncertainty is unusually high-value work.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume increases sharply and terminology precision matters more. Students coming from 0610 are usually well prepared on content and poorly prepared for an investigation that has to be narrow enough to control, which is where the Internal Assessment is won before any writing happens.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

A different discipline from First Language English 0500 rather than a harder version. The Diploma asks for analysis of how texts work on readers, across literary and non-literary material, with an Individual Oral in a school recording window. Students who scored well at IGCSE by writing fluently need to learn to argue instead.

Economics

HL and SL

Builds cleanly on IGCSE Economics 0455 where a student took it, and is entirely learnable from scratch where they did not. Diagram accuracy still decides the analysis marks. The new element is internally assessed commentary work spread across the course, which needs scheduling rather than cramming.

Business Management

HL and SL

Framework-led, and a natural continuation from IGCSE Business Studies 0450. The discipline is applying one correct tool to the stimulus rather than listing several. Higher Level candidates meet a research-based component with its own word limit, criteria and school deadline.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

IGCSE, Extended only

Not a Diploma subject but the single best predictor of comfort in Analysis and Approaches, because it introduces calculus, logarithms and kinematics a year early. Where a student did not take it, a summer block covering differentiation and function transformations closes most of the gap.

Arabic and the mandatory UAE subjects

School-set courses

Taught alongside both qualifications, since the federal baseline covers Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies for every private school. Support means working with the school's own material and assessment, because using different or additional content without ministry permission is not permitted.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three blocks map onto the handover, and they are sequenced rather than alternative. Most families need the first two and skip the third.

Summer bridging block

Eight to twelve sessions across the gap between the last IGCSE paper and the first Diploma term, aimed at named content gaps and at project habits. Content work is diagnosed from the student's own IGCSE papers; habit work means planning something with a distant deadline and actually meeting it. Cheapest high-value intervention in the whole two-qualification route.

  • Diagnosed from the student's own marked IGCSE scripts
  • Maths route decision supported with evidence rather than opinion
  • One practice project with a self-set deadline, to install the habit

First-term Diploma support

Weekly or fortnightly through the opening months, concentrating on the components that will be due later: Internal Assessment question choice, Extended Essay topic narrowing, and the reading habits Theory of Knowledge assumes. This is when the calendar has slack, which is exactly why it is the right time to spend on components.

  • Assessment criteria read letter by letter with the student
  • Research questions narrowed until they are genuinely doable
  • Nothing written for the student; feedback on their own drafts only

Second-year component and paper work

Short blocks where a specific component or paper needs attention, run against the school's deadline sheet. The second Diploma year has no spare weeks, so the work here is sequencing and triage rather than teaching. Where this block is large, it usually means the first two were skipped.

  • Scoped against the school's own internal deadlines
  • Timed paper sections marked to the published criteria
  • Honest statements about what cannot be rescued late

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Hamra Village

01

What "near me" is worth at this point in a school career

The phrase in the search bar is about reach, and reach genuinely matters when a family needs to start quickly. In the handover, though, the clock is unusually generous: the summer gap is known a year in advance, and nobody needs a tutor on the doorstep by Thursday. What is scarce on this coast is not availability but combination. A tutor who can diagnose an IGCSE script and also knows what a Diploma Internal Assessment is marked on is a narrow category anywhere, and Ras Al Khaimah is a small emirate with a small private-school sector.

So the honest reading of this search is that proximity is being used as a proxy for trust. A parent wants someone accountable, who can be checked, who will still be there in three weeks. Those are reasonable requirements and none of them is geographic. They are met by a named tutor who stays the same week to week, a written plan with an end date, and a review against marked evidence rather than against impressions.

There is one way in which distance genuinely argues for online delivery here. Bridging work is at its most useful in the summer, when households on this coast travel, and an in-person arrangement collapses the moment anyone leaves the emirate. A live video session continues from anywhere with a connection, which turns a fragmented ten weeks into a usable block. That is a practical argument rather than a technological one.

IB Gram does not place a tutor at an address in Ras Al Khaimah or anywhere else in the UAE; in-person visiting is a service we run only in India. What a family gets instead is the specific combination this page is about, available in July as readily as in November, and judged on the student's own work rather than on how convenient the arrangement felt.

02

The handover year, month by month

Laid out as a sequence, the handover is less daunting than it feels, mostly because the heavy items are not where families expect. The spring of the final IGCSE year is the busiest stretch and almost nobody has spare capacity in it. The summer is empty and is where the leverage sits. The first Diploma term looks light and is the single best moment to make component decisions. The second Diploma year has no slack at all and is therefore the worst possible place to start anything.

The table below sets that out with the action for each month-band rather than a description of it. Two rows deserve emphasis. The first is the results row: IGCSE grades arrive in the second half of August, and the Diploma typically starts within weeks. Families who intend to use results to decide subject levels are deciding in a very narrow window, which is an argument for forming a provisional view in June on the evidence of the mocks and the papers as sat.

The second is the first-term row. In the opening months of the Diploma a student has six new courses and very few deadlines, which feels like a quiet term and is actually the most valuable one. This is when an Extended Essay topic can be chosen slowly, when an Internal Assessment question can be narrowed properly, and when a student can learn what criteria-based marking rewards. Every one of those tasks becomes a crisis if it waits until the second year.

A family on this coast can act on this table without buying anything. Ask the school for the internal deadline sheet in September. Write the maths route decision down in June with reasons. Spend two weeks of the summer on whichever gap the IGCSE scripts reveal. Those three steps cost nothing and remove most of the risk from the handover.

Curriculum transition map, subject by subject

Most writing about the IGCSE-to-Diploma jump says that it is a big step and leaves it there. The useful version names the step per subject, because the gaps are specific and several of them are narrow enough to close in a fortnight. One competitor page in this market has a single heading on the subject; nobody has a structured subject-by-subject account, which is why this one is here.

The pattern across sciences is consistent. Content gaps are modest, because IGCSE Extended covers the foundations honestly. The real gaps are quantitative and methodological: uncertainty propagation, experimental design, and the discipline of a self-designed investigation with its own assessment criteria. A student can arrive at Higher Level Physics knowing all the physics they need for the first term and still lose marks from week two because nobody showed them how to handle an error bar.

In mathematics the gap is speed rather than content, and it is the one most worth measuring before the Diploma starts. A student who completes 0580 Extended questions accurately but slowly will cope at Standard Level and find Higher Level relentless. Where Additional Mathematics 0606 was taken, most of the gap is already closed. Where it was not, a summer block on differentiation, function transformations and logarithms does most of the work.

In English and the humanities the gap is a change of discipline. First Language English 0500 rewards fluent, well-structured writing; the Diploma's language courses reward argument about how a text operates on a reader, across literary and non-literary material, with an oral component recorded in a school window. A student who was good at IGCSE English by writing nicely has to learn to analyse, and that transition takes a term rather than a week.

What to actually do with ten free weeks

  • Diagnose from the student's own IGCSE scripts, not from a general assessment
  • Two named content gaps, two sessions a week, four weeks
  • One self-scoped practice project with a self-set deadline
  • Read the assessment criteria for two Diploma subjects before term starts
  • Write down the maths route decision, with reasons, in June

The summer after IGCSE is the only period in five years when a student has no deadlines and full capacity, and the default use of it is nothing. That is a defensible choice after two years of examined courses, and a complete rest is better than a half-hearted programme. But a fortnight of focused work inside a ten-week break is not a lost holiday, and it reliably changes the first Diploma term.

The content half of a bridging block should be diagnosed rather than assumed. The student's own IGCSE scripts, read properly, say where the weaknesses are, and those weaknesses do not disappear because a new qualification has started. A student who lost marks on rearrangement and indices in June will lose marks on them in Analysis and Approaches in October. Two sessions a week for four weeks on two named gaps is enough to move the needle.

The habit half is less obvious and matters more. The Diploma's distinguishing feature is work with distant deadlines and self-set scope: an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay, a reflective project. An IGCSE candidate has never had to do that, because every deadline they have met was imposed weekly. So the useful summer exercise is one small project with a question they chose, a deadline they set, and a finished product at the end. The subject barely matters; the experience of scoping and finishing does.

The third element costs nothing: read the assessment criteria for two of the Diploma subjects the student is taking. Not the syllabus, the criteria. A sixteen-year-old who understands before September that their science work will be marked against named criteria with published maximums, rather than against a percentage, starts the course with information that most of their classmates will acquire in February.

05

Two qualifications, two assessment logics

The deepest difference between IGCSE and the Diploma is not difficulty, it is where the marks live. In an IGCSE subject almost everything is decided in a hall on a named day, which makes revision the dominant activity and makes the final fortnight disproportionately important. In a Diploma subject a meaningful share is decided months earlier, in work produced under the student's own management and marked against criteria the student can read in advance.

That shift changes what good support looks like. For IGCSE, the highest-value tutoring is timed practice marked to the published scheme, because that is the format the grade comes from. For the Diploma, the highest-value tutoring in the first year is criteria literacy and question narrowing, because a well-chosen Internal Assessment question is worth more than any amount of write-up polish applied to a badly chosen one.

It also changes what a parent should ask about. The right question to an IGCSE tutor is which papers they have taught and how they mark. The right question to a Diploma tutor is which criteria they can name for the student's subject and what the mark allocations are. Of the competitor pages researched across these UAE searches, not one names a single assessment criterion by letter. A tutor who can is demonstrating something that cannot be faked.

And the boundary applies on the Diploma side in a way it does not on the IGCSE side. Terminal papers cannot be ghost-written; internally assessed work can. So it needs saying plainly: on an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay a tutor explains the criteria, questions the plan, points out where a conclusion does not follow, and gives feedback on the student's own draft. Nobody at IB Gram writes, rewrites, supplies data for, or completes any of it. One site ranking on these searches sells finished Internal Assessments, and the consequences of that transaction fall on the student.

The maths route decision, made with evidence

Of all the choices in the handover, the maths route is the one most often made for the wrong reason. A student picks Analysis and Approaches because it sounds more serious, or Applications and Interpretation because a friend did, and two years later one of them is in difficulty. The decision deserves evidence, and the evidence exists in June: the student's own IGCSE maths performance, broken down by question type rather than summarised as a grade.

Analysis and Approaches is algebra-heavy and proof-oriented, continuous in its demands, and specified by name as a requirement for some university courses. Applications and Interpretation is statistics-heavy and technology-led, genuinely rigorous, and a better fit for a large number of capable students who are not fast algebraists. Neither is the easy one; they are differently hard, and the Higher Level version of either is a serious undertaking.

The practical test is narrow. Give the student a set of 0580 Extended algebraic manipulation questions and time them. Accuracy with slow speed points towards Applications and Interpretation or towards Standard Level Analysis and Approaches. Accuracy with reasonable speed, plus genuine interest in why a method works, points to Higher Level Analysis and Approaches. Where Additional Mathematics 0606 was taken and went well, that is the strongest available signal.

Then check the destination. If a target degree names Analysis and Approaches, the conversation is about whether Standard Level will satisfy it rather than about avoiding the course. University requirements change, so check the current ones rather than relying on what was true for an older sibling, and check them before the option form goes in rather than in the second Diploma year when changing course is difficult or impossible.

Assembling the equivalency file across both qualifications

  • Five IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no lower than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education
  • Plus one A Level at grade E, or two AS Levels at the same grade
  • American track: SAT Math 450+, English via IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 reading and writing
  • No IB points threshold published here; confirm with the Ministry directly
  • Count the counting subjects in Year 9, while options can still change

A family in Ras Al Khaimah running a child through IGCSE and then the Diploma is also, quietly, assembling a Ministry of Education equivalency file. Equivalency is the process that makes a foreign school certificate usable with UAE authorities and universities. It is not something a tutoring service performs, guarantees or accelerates, and it is not a reason to buy tuition. It is simply a set of requirements that is much easier to satisfy if you know them in Year 9 than in Year 13.

For the British track, the requirements as clarified publicly in July 2026 are five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. That last clause is the one families miss: nine IGCSEs including Arabic and Islamic Education still needs five counting passes from the other seven.

For the American track the requirements are different in kind: English proficiency through IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics through at least 450 in the SAT Math test. For the IB Diploma, this page publishes no points threshold, because none has been read on an official Ministry source. A competitor page in this market already publishes a wrong IGCSE subject count; inheriting that error or inventing an IB figure would be worse than saying nothing.

What a family should actually do is three things, none of which involves a tutor. Ask the school which of your child's subjects are the accredited ones. Count the counting subjects while option blocks can still change. And verify any IB equivalency requirement with the Ministry or the emirate attestation authority directly rather than with a tutoring website, including this one.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Hamra Village

On this stretch of coast the practical difference between neighbourhoods is when a student is actually available to work, which matters most in a summer bridging block when nothing is fixed by a timetable.

Mina Al Arab

A short run north, newer in parts and lower density. Summer sessions here are easy to schedule in the morning, which is when bridging work on maths and uncertainty analysis lands best for a sixteen-year-old.

Al Marjan Island

Resort-dominated, apartment-heavy, with involved visitor access. Households here travel more in the summer than most, so a plan that survives a trip is worth more than a plan with more sessions in it.

Al Nakheel

The central district holding most of the emirate's schools. Families here are most likely to be changing school for the Diploma years, which makes the bridging question a change-of-curriculum question as well as a change-of-level one.

Khuzam

Inland, close to the city centre, with campuses within easy reach. Short school runs make it the easiest cluster for two short weekly sessions during the Diploma's first term, which is when habits are formed.

Al Dhait

Established villa districts inland. Households often have a parent commuting south, so Diploma-year evening study tends to start later and the Extended Essay reading gets pushed into weekends.

Julphar and Al Qusaidat

Older districts near the creek with the heaviest late-afternoon traffic in the emirate. Any arrangement depending on someone arriving slips here, which is a problem in a first Diploma term when consistency is the whole point.

Al Jazirah Al Hamra and Al Mamourah

Low-density areas with small school-age populations, so a bridging group at one subject and level will not assemble. One-to-one is not a preference here, it is the only format that exists.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us where on the join you are

Finishing IGCSE in June, starting the Diploma in September, with Higher Level Chemistry and Physics planned is a brief we can build a summer around. So is second Diploma term with an Internal Assessment question that is not working. The position in the sequence decides the plan.

  2. 02

Send the IGCSE scripts and the Diploma subject list

The marked scripts show what actually needs bridging rather than what is assumed to. The subject and level list shows which gaps matter most. Together they take ten minutes to read and prevent a summer spent on the wrong thing.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, then a bridging plan

One 45 to 60-minute one-to-one session over live video, no card details, no obligation. What follows is a plan naming two content gaps, the number of sessions on each, and one practice project with a student-set deadline. Short, specific and finishable inside a holiday.

  4. 04

Use the first Diploma term for components

Extended Essay topic chosen slowly, Internal Assessment questions narrowed until they are doable, criteria read with the student. The first term has slack and the second year has none, which makes this the cheapest component work available.

  5. 05

Review on the student's own work, not on feelings

At the end of a block, put the marked evidence from the start and the finish side by side against the target that was written down. If nothing moved, change the plan or the tutor early. A block that hit its target and stopped is a success, not a lost customer.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Both sides of the join, in one place

Diagnosing an IGCSE script and coaching a Diploma Internal Assessment are different skills, and the families who need both are the ones least well served in the northern emirates. Working online means a student in Al Hamra Village can have each from someone who does it properly rather than one person approximating both.

The summer treated as an asset

Ten unstructured weeks sit between the last IGCSE paper and the first Diploma term, and almost nobody uses them. A fortnight of diagnosed work plus one self-scoped practice project changes the first term more reliably than a year of weekly sessions started in November.

Criteria named, not implied

We will tell you which criteria your child's Internal Assessment is marked against and what each is worth. None of the competitor pages researched across these UAE searches names a single one by letter, which is precisely why families cannot distinguish expertise from familiarity.

No invented IB dates

This page carries no specific IB examination or results date, because the IB's own site cannot be checked automatically. We work from your school's internal deadline sheet, which governs an actual Diploma year far more than the external session does.

A hard line on assessed work

On an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay the tutor explains criteria, questions the plan and responds to the student's own draft. No writing, no rewriting, no supplied data. A site ranking on these searches sells completed assessments; that risk sits with the student.

Continuity through a travelling summer

Households on this coast travel in exactly the weeks when bridging work is most valuable. A live video plan continues from anywhere with a connection, which turns a fragmented ten weeks into a usable block. An in-person arrangement stops at the airport.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Hamra Village: your questions answered

How big is the jump from IGCSE to the IB Diploma really?+

Smaller in content than in working style. IGCSE Extended covers the foundations honestly, so most first-term Diploma content is new depth rather than unfamiliar material. The genuine jump is that a Diploma subject includes internally assessed work the student scopes and manages themselves, marked against published criteria, months before any exam. A student who was good at revising for papers has never had to plan something with a distant deadline, and that is the skill the summer before the Diploma should install.

What should my child do in the summer between IGCSE and the Diploma?+

Rest for most of it, then spend about a fortnight on two things. The first is the content gaps their own IGCSE scripts reveal, because weaknesses in rearrangement, indices or uncertainty do not disappear when a new qualification starts. The second is one small self-scoped project with a question they chose and a deadline they set, finished properly. The subject hardly matters; the experience of scoping and finishing is what the Diploma assumes and what no IGCSE candidate has practised.

Should we wait for IGCSE results before choosing Diploma levels?+

Form the view in June and confirm it in August. Pearson's June 2026 International GCSE results reached students on 20 August 2026, and Diploma teaching typically begins within weeks of that, which is a very narrow window for a consequential decision. Write down a provisional subject and level plan in June on the evidence of the mocks and the papers as sat, with reasons. Then treat results day as confirmation or a prompt to revise, rather than as the moment the whole decision gets made.

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation for my child?+

Decide on evidence rather than on which sounds more serious. Time a set of 0580 Extended algebraic manipulation questions. Accuracy with slow speed points towards Applications and Interpretation, or towards Standard Level Analysis and Approaches. Accuracy at reasonable speed plus real curiosity about why a method works points to Higher Level Analysis and Approaches, and a good result in Additional Mathematics 0606 is the strongest signal available. Then check whether any target degree specifies Analysis and Approaches by name, because some do.

Does Additional Mathematics 0606 matter if my child is going into the Diploma?+

It is the best single predictor of comfort in Analysis and Approaches, because it introduces calculus, logarithms and kinematics a year early and builds the algebraic speed the Diploma assumes. It is not a requirement, and plenty of students succeed without it. Where it was not taken, a summer block on differentiation, function transformations and logarithms closes most of the gap in six to ten sessions, which is a far cheaper intervention than catching up during a first Diploma term.

Which IGCSE subject leaves the widest gap into Higher Level science?+

Physics, and the gap is quantitative rather than topical. Uncertainty propagation and error analysis are assumed from the first weeks of a Diploma physics course and are barely touched at IGCSE, and they carry marks in the written papers and in the Internal Assessment alike. A student can arrive knowing all the physics content needed for the first term and still lose marks from week two because nobody showed them how to handle an error bar. Six focused summer sessions is unusually high-value work.

When should the Extended Essay topic be chosen?+

In the first Diploma year, while the calendar still has slack. The essay runs to a 4,000-word limit and the school sets staged draft deadlines that collide in the second year with science Internal Assessment write-ups, the Theory of Knowledge essay and oral components in language subjects. A student entering the second year with a narrowed research question, a working supervisor relationship and some reading behind them is in a different position from one entering it with a title and good intentions.

Is there anyone in Ras Al Khaimah who covers both IGCSE and the Diploma?+

Locally, very few, and that is the honest answer rather than a sales line. The emirate has a comparatively small private-school sector concentrated around Al Nakheel, Al Hamra and Mina Al Arab, so the number of people here who have taught a Diploma subject at Higher Level and can also diagnose an IGCSE script is small, and most are fully committed. Online one-to-one widens that pool to everyone who does it properly, which is why we teach here by live video rather than by visiting.

What does criterion-based marking change for my child?+

It makes the standard readable in advance, which is an advantage most students fail to take. A Diploma internal component is marked against lettered criteria with published maximum marks, so a student can know before writing what the finished piece has to demonstrate. The practical move is to read the criteria aloud and turn each one into a question the work must answer. Students who write first and check the criteria afterwards produce work that reads well and scores in the middle of the range.

Can a tutor write part of an Internal Assessment if time has run out?+

No, and the answer does not change with the deadline. A tutor may explain the criteria, question the method, point out that a conclusion does not follow from the data, and give written feedback on the student's own draft. Writing a section, rewriting prose, supplying data or editing to completion is malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student rather than on the person who helped. Any provider offering completed assessments is selling an expulsion risk dressed as a shortcut.

How does English change between IGCSE and the Diploma?+

It becomes a different discipline rather than a harder one. First Language English 0500 rewards fluent, well-organised writing and accurate reading. The Diploma's language courses reward argument about how texts work on readers, across literary and non-literary material, with an Individual Oral recorded in a school window and, at Higher Level, an essay with its own internal deadlines. A student who scored well at IGCSE by writing nicely has to learn to analyse, and that shift takes a term of fortnightly work rather than a fortnight.

Will the school change between Year 11 and Year 12 affect the handover?+

Often, yes, and it is worth planning for in Year 10 rather than Year 11. Where a Ras Al Khaimah family moves from an IGCSE school to a school offering the Diploma, the two curricula sequence topics differently, so genuine content gaps appear that neither school considers its responsibility. A diagnostic session on the student's own IGCSE scripts will find them, and most are closeable in a summer. Ask any prospective school directly which programmes it is authorised to deliver and at which year groups.

How many IGCSE passes does my child actually need for the Ministry file?+

Five accredited subjects at a grade no lower than E or grade 3 for the British track, plus one A Level at grade E or better, or two AS Levels at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five, which is the detail that catches families late. One competitor page in this market states that six IGCSE subjects are required; the published rule is five. Ask your school which of your child's subjects are the accredited ones while option blocks can still change.

Can bridging sessions continue while we travel in the summer?+

Yes, and on this coast that is usually the deciding factor. Households here travel in exactly the weeks when bridging work is most valuable, so an arrangement that requires someone to arrive in person collapses the moment anyone leaves the emirate. A live video session runs from anywhere with a usable connection, which converts a fragmented ten weeks into a block that can actually be planned. Give us the travel dates when the plan is written and the sequence will be built around them.

The handover is predictable, so plan it instead of reacting to it

Nothing about the join between IGCSE and the Diploma is a surprise. The papers finish in June, results arrive in the second half of August, the Diploma starts within weeks, and the components that decide it are chosen in a first term that feels quiet. So send us the IGCSE scripts, the Diploma subject and level list, and the school's deadline sheet when it appears. Take the free trial lesson, agree a short bridging block with a target, and use the summer. Lessons for Al Hamra Village students are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and they continue while you travel.
