IB Home Tutor in Al Nakheel

Looking for an IB home tutor in Al Nakheel usually means comparing two things at once: your own district and the campus your child travels to, most often Khuzam or the Al Hamra coast. This page runs that comparison properly, then shows why the academic answer comes out the same from either postcode. Higher and Standard Level weightings, the mathematics route decision, the exploration criteria letter by letter, and lessons taught one-to-one over live video at Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Nakheel

Two districts, one school run, and the comparison worth making

Al Nakheel is the commercial centre of Ras Al Khaimah, and it is where most of the emirate's independent tutors actually live. Khuzam, inland and a short drive south, is where one of the main British curriculum campuses sits. A Diploma family in Al Nakheel is therefore in an unusual position: the local tutor supply is on their doorstep, and the school their child attends almost certainly is not. That combination produces a specific set of questions, and this page answers them in order.

The first question is whether the district matters at all. For logistics it does. A child at a Khuzam campus finishing at a quarter past three reaches an Al Nakheel flat somewhere around four, and a child travelling to the Al Hamra coast reaches it later. That decides whether a session can start at five or has to start at six, how many evenings a week are realistic, and whether Saturday morning is a better slot than any weekday at all. Those are real constraints and they belong in the plan.

For the academic answer it does not matter in the slightest, and that is the argument this page makes in the middle. The marks in a Higher Level chemistry paper are lost in the same places whether the student lives in Al Nakheel, Al Uraibi, Khuzam or Al Dhait. The mathematics exploration is marked against the same five criteria. The extended essay has the same four-thousand-word ceiling. What changes with the postcode is who can physically reach you, which is a constraint on supply and not a feature of the teaching.

This is where the honest statement belongs. IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in Ras Al Khaimah or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons here are one-to-one online tuition over live video, with a shared whiteboard, annotated work and a recording afterwards. Because the delivery is remote, your district stops filtering the shortlist, and a student in Al Nakheel can work with whoever has actually taught Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level rather than whoever is twenty minutes away.

What follows is deliberately concrete. A district-by-district comparison of what the school day does to an evening. The Higher and Standard Level weightings, because most families know the labels and not the percentages. The two mathematics courses and which one a degree route expects. The exploration criteria, letter by letter, with the marks attached, which nobody else in this search publishes. The word limits across the Diploma core. And the boundary a tutor may not cross with any of it. None of it requires you to contact anybody to be useful, which is the test we would apply to any page selling something.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Nakheel households sit across the full IB continuum because the city centre feeds several campuses. Each programme below is described by what it actually demands of a student, with a note on what that means for a family living in the city rather than next to the school.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

IB Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units, an inquiry stance and no external examinations, finishing with the exhibition in the final year. Reading fluency and secure number facts are the two things that predict everything afterwards, and they are also the two things an inquiry framework does not report on directly.

City-centre families often have the shortest school run at this age and the longest later, because primary provision is closer than the Diploma campuses. That makes the primary years the cheapest and easiest time to establish a weekly routine, and it is the stage most households skip.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Five years, eight subject groups, and four criteria per subject each marked out of eight. A grade is a judgement against descriptors rather than a percentage, which is why a 5 feels alarming and is not. The personal project in the final year is the first piece of genuinely independent work most students meet.

The decision that matters in Al Nakheel is the one at the end of the programme: Diploma at an international campus, or Year 10 and 11 IGCSE at a British one. The two routes have different commutes from the city centre, and families often choose on travel and then discover the academic consequences later.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus the extended essay, theory of knowledge and creativity-activity-service. The second year is where the external papers bite and the first is where the internal assessments are either started properly or left too late. Both halves need different kinds of support.

The Diploma is where the local tutor supply in this emirate runs out fastest. A Higher Level mathematics or chemistry teacher within a short drive of Al Nakheel may not exist in a given year, and the usual local substitute is a subject graduate who has never taught the course. Those are not the same product.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Career-related Programme

Diploma courses combined with a career-related study and a reflective project, for students who want depth in two or three academic subjects rather than six. Less common in the northern emirates, and worth knowing about because it is sometimes a better fit than a Diploma a student is struggling to carry.

Where a school offers it, the Career-related Programme changes the support question from breadth to depth: two or three subjects need proper attention rather than six needing maintenance. For a family budgeting an evening a week, that is a materially easier problem.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects Al Nakheel families ask about, with the specific place marks are lost in each. The level matters more than the subject name: Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra homework, and the weightings in the next section show why.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

At Higher Level, Paper 3 is an extended investigation requiring sustained reasoning rather than recall, and proof technique separates the top grades. At Standard Level the losses are usually mechanical: algebraic slips and unfinished method lines that forfeit marks a correct answer would have earned.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with heavy graphical calculator use. Marks go missing where a model is chosen without justification and where a conclusion is stated without returning to the context the question set up. Both are technique repairs rather than content gaps.

Physics

HL and SL

Higher Level depth exposes weak algebra immediately, and the data-analysis questions reward a trained habit of checking units, uncertainties and significant figures. Pairing physics with mathematics under one tutor usually saves a family a whole second arrangement.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics and organic mechanisms carry the Higher Level grade. In the internal assessment the marks are lost in evaluation far more often than in method, because students describe what went wrong without quantifying how much it mattered.

Biology

HL and SL

Wide content and unforgiving terminology. The common and expensive error is buying content hours when the real failure is command-term reading: a student who explains where the paper asked them to evaluate will sit mid-band whatever they know.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and the evaluation half of extended answers decide the grade. The internal assessment commentaries need a tutor who will question an article choice rather than hand one over, which is a boundary worth checking before you book.

Business Management

HL and SL

Application to the stimulus is the grade. Students who respond to weak marks by learning more theory score the same again, and one properly marked paper makes that visible in about ten minutes.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the unseen analysis in Paper 1 are both learnable techniques with a long practice tail. Higher Level adds the essay, with its own word limit, and that is where structure rather than reading matters most.

Psychology

HL and SL

Knowing studies is necessary and not sufficient. Marks sit in deploying a named study as evidence for one specific argument, and students who revise by summarising studies tend to plateau exactly where that stops working.

Theory of knowledge and the extended essay

Core

Supervised rather than taught. The essay is capped at 4,000 words and the theory of knowledge essay at 1,600, and the support is interrogation of the student's own drafting. The writing belongs to the candidate throughout, with no exceptions.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Al Nakheel families run Diploma support with us. All are one-to-one over live video, so the choice is about frequency and timing rather than about who travels where.

Weekly subject slot, one level, one course

Sixty or ninety minutes a week on one Higher or Standard Level course, with work set and marked between sessions. The slot is fixed for the term so it survives the school run rather than being renegotiated each week, which is what usually kills a physical arrangement by November.

  • A single fixed Gulf Standard Time slot held for the term
  • Matched to the course and level, not the district
  • Marked work returned before the next session
  • Recording available to the family afterwards

Fortnightly core supervision

For the extended essay, theory of knowledge and internal assessments, run across months rather than weeks. The tutor questions the research question, names what is unsupported and hands the drafting straight back. Low hours, high leverage, and the one arrangement where buying more time is the wrong instinct.

  • Timed to the school's own internal deadlines, not ours
  • Criteria used as the reference and linked, never reproduced
  • Feedback given in conversation and annotation only
  • Booked a term ahead, because drafting season is crowded

Saturday morning double

For families whose commute makes weekday evenings unworkable, a longer weekend session replacing two weekday ones. It suits Al Hamra and Al Marjan commutes particularly, and it works for Higher Level paper practice where a full timed attempt needs more than an hour.

  • One longer block instead of two short weekday sessions
  • Full timed papers sat under exam conditions
  • Marking against the official scheme in the same session
  • Useful where two siblings need back-to-back slots

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Nakheel

01

Al Nakheel against Khuzam: what the school day does to the evening

This is the comparison families here actually run, and it is worth doing with numbers rather than impressions. A Khuzam campus and a city-centre address are about fifteen minutes apart outside peak traffic, which means a child finishing at a quarter past three is home shortly after four and a five o'clock session is comfortable. The same child travelling to the Al Hamra coast is not home before five, and a five o'clock start is fiction.

That difference changes the plan rather than the teaching. A family with an early return can run two weekday sessions; a family with a long commute is better off with one longer weekend block, because a tired child at six-thirty on a Tuesday produces an hour of poor work that still costs an hour of money. Choosing the slot honestly is one of the few free improvements available to any tutoring arrangement, and it is almost never discussed.

The second column of the table is the one that surprises people. Across every district in this comparison, the subjects families ask for are nearly identical, the loss patterns are identical, and the scarcity of Higher Level specialists is identical. The districts differ in travel time and in rent. They do not differ in what a Diploma student needs from a teacher, which is the whole reason a remote arrangement makes the postcode irrelevant rather than inconvenient. A parent who has just moved from Al Uraibi to Al Dhait has changed their commute and changed nothing about which teacher their child needs, and the comparison table is really a timetable tool rather than a shortlist.

Higher Level is not Standard Level with more homework

Most families know the labels and very few know the percentages, which matters because the percentages are where tutoring time should be aimed. Higher Level courses carry more teaching hours, more content and, in several subjects, an additional paper that does not exist at Standard Level. A student taking three Higher Level subjects is carrying three extra papers as well as three deeper syllabuses, and the extra papers are weighted heavily enough to decide a grade on their own.

The practical consequence is that a Higher Level student and a Standard Level student in the same subject need different sessions, not different amounts of the same session. Standard Level work is usually about securing method marks and avoiding mechanical loss. Higher Level work is about sustained reasoning across a longer problem, and about the specific demands of the additional component, which rewards practice at that component rather than general revision of the subject.

A note on where exact figures belong. Component weightings are published by the IB for each subject in its own guide, and they change between syllabus cycles, so the right move is to read your child's current subject guide or ask their teacher rather than trust a general table on any tutoring page. What the table below does instead is show the shape of the difference and what each kind of component asks a student to do, which is stable across cycles and is what a plan is built on.

03

The mathematics route decision, taken two years too late

The single most consequential choice an Al Nakheel Diploma family makes is which mathematics course and at which level, and it is usually made on the basis of which one sounds easier. Analysis and Approaches is the proof-and-calculus route; Applications and Interpretation is the modelling-and-statistics route with heavier technology use. Both exist at Higher and Standard Level, and both are respectable courses. They are not interchangeable for the degree a student is aiming at.

The problem is timing. The choice is made at the end of the Middle Years Programme or Year 11, and its consequences surface when university entry requirements are read eighteen months later. Engineering, physics, mathematics and many economics courses commonly expect the analysis route at Higher Level; design, business, psychology and some social sciences are generally content with the applications route. Requirements vary by university and by year, so the only safe method is to read the published entry requirements for the specific courses on your child's list, including the UAE universities.

Where a tutor genuinely helps is before the decision rather than after it. An hour spent on a diagnostic of algebraic fluency and willingness to work with abstraction tells you more than a term of worrying. Students who find proof satisfying and algebra tolerable belong on the analysis route; students who are quick with data, context and modelling and who dislike abstraction will do better and score higher on applications. Choosing against the grain and then paying for tutoring to survive it is the expensive way round.

04

The mathematics exploration, criterion by criterion

Nobody in this search cluster publishes a single assessment criterion by letter, which is strange, because this is the part of the Diploma where families most often lose marks they could have kept. The mathematics exploration is marked out of twenty across five criteria, and the marks are not distributed the way students assume. Criterion E, the use of mathematics, carries six of the twenty. Presentation and mathematical communication carry four each. Personal engagement and reflection carry three each.

Read that distribution and the usual failure becomes obvious. Students pour effort into the mathematics, which is right, and then lose the eight marks available for communication and presentation by submitting something structured as a stream of working with no narrative. Reflection is the most neglected three marks in the Diploma: it asks for genuine consideration of what the result means and what the limitations were, and most first drafts have none of it at all.

What a tutor may do with this is precisely bounded and worth stating. Explaining what a criterion rewards is teaching. Reading a draft the student has written and saying that criterion D is currently unaddressed is feedback. Writing the reflection, restructuring the document, or supplying text for the student to insert is none of those things, and submitted work that is not the candidate's own is malpractice under the IB's academic honesty rules, with the consequence falling on the student. The criteria themselves live in the current subject guide and should be read there.

05

The Diploma core, counted in words and deadlines

The core pieces are where Al Nakheel families most often ask for help late, and they are also the pieces with hard limits that make planning possible. The extended essay is capped at four thousand words. The theory of knowledge essay is capped at one thousand six hundred. The theory of knowledge exhibition commentary runs to nine hundred and fifty. Those ceilings are published by the IB and they are the single most useful planning facts in the Diploma, because a word count converts directly into a number of drafting weeks.

The deadlines, by contrast, are not the IB's. Your school sets internal submission dates months ahead of anything the board requires, in order to leave time for supervision, feedback and upload. That is why a tutoring plan has to be built from your own school's calendar rather than from a general timetable, and why booking core supervision in the autumn works and booking it in April does not. A tutor arriving after the school's internal deadline cannot help with the thing you are paying them for.

One further caution specific to this page. We do not publish IB examination or results dates anywhere on this site, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and we will not state a date we cannot verify from the source. Your child's IB coordinator holds the authoritative version for their session, and they are the only person who should be giving you one. Anything else on a tutoring page is a guess dressed as information, and a date a parent acts on is the worst possible thing to guess about.

The postcode changes the logistics and nothing else

  • Assessment criteria, word limits and component structures do not vary by district
  • Local supply of Higher Level specialists does vary, and it is thin across this emirate
  • Proximity buys a shorter shortlist at a higher published rate
  • Let the commute set the timetable and let the specification set the tutor

Here is the claim this page has been building towards. Every item in the four tables above is identical for a student in Al Nakheel, a student in Khuzam and a student on Al Marjan Island. Criterion E is worth six marks everywhere. The extended essay ceiling is four thousand words everywhere. Higher Level additional papers exist regardless of which district a family rents in. The academic problem is national, or rather international, and it is not local at all.

What is local is supply, and this is where the northern emirates differ sharply from Dubai. The private-school set in Ras Al Khaimah is small and concentrated in a few districts, so the number of people within driving distance of Al Nakheel who have actually taught Higher Level chemistry or Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is small in any given year. Insisting on proximity therefore does not get you a better teacher; it gets you a shorter list, at a higher rate, because travel is unpaid time that returns to you in the hourly figure.

The conclusion is unglamorous. Use your district to decide when the session happens, because the school run genuinely constrains that. Do not use it to decide who teaches, because distance carries no information about whether somebody has taught your child's course. For an Al Nakheel family that reframing is worth more than any negotiation on rate, and it is the reason our delivery here is one-to-one over live video rather than a drive we would have to charge you for.

07

Online, in-home and group study compared for a city-centre family

Families in Al Nakheel have genuine alternatives, and a page that pretended otherwise would not be useful. There are tuition centres in the city, there are independent tutors living a few streets away, and there are study groups formed inside a school year cohort. Each earns its place in a different situation, and the comparison below is written to be fair to all of them rather than to arrive somewhere predetermined.

A centre buys structure and company, which is the right purchase for a student who works better with others in the room and needs the week shaped for them. An independent local tutor buys presence, which matters to some younger students in a way no video call replicates. A study group costs nothing and is excellent for working through past papers, provided somebody in it actually knows the mark scheme. None of those three reliably buys a Higher Level specialist in this emirate, and that is the gap.

Online one-to-one buys the specialist and the schedule flexibility, and gives up the physical presence. It also removes the failure mode nobody prices in: the session that does not happen. Across a thirty-week year, a physical arrangement loses sessions to traffic, weather, illness on either side and school events, and each loss is either money or an argument. A remote slot that must move moves by ninety minutes and still happens, and session count is a larger lever on a Diploma grade than hourly rate.

08

What a tutor may not touch, and why we say so on the page

  • A tutor may question, explain, model and mark; the writing stays with the student
  • Feedback goes into conversation and annotation, never into the submitted file
  • Official guides and mark schemes are referenced and linked, not supplied as files
  • An offer of completed coursework is a reason to end the conversation

There is an open market in this region for finished coursework, priced in four figures, and a family comparing options deserves to know that it exists and what it costs the student rather than the buyer. The IB's academic honesty rules make submitted work that is not the candidate's own a malpractice matter, and malpractice findings fall on the candidate. No price turns that into a sensible purchase, and no tutoring arrangement should blur it.

The workable boundary is easy to state and easy to check. A tutor explains what a criterion rewards, questions a research question, points at a paragraph and says the claim in it is unsupported, demonstrates how a source should be handled, and marks a draft against published criteria. A tutor does not write a student's internal assessment, does not draft their extended essay and does not edit a piece to completion. Feedback belongs in conversation and in annotation, never in the submitted file.

The same boundary applies to materials, and it is worth a sentence because some providers advertise the opposite as a feature. Subject guides, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the IB. A tutor can work through them with a student and can point you to the official page; reproducing them as downloads is copyright infringement. If a provider's main selling point is a library of other people's documents, they are offering something they have no right to give you.

09

Starting from Al Nakheel, and what the first month looks like

  • Send subject, level, school, year and what triggered the search
  • First session diagnoses; it does not start the syllabus again
  • Written plan with an estimated session range before any payment
  • Review at four weeks and again at the mock results

The useful first message contains the subject, the level, the school and the year, and ideally the thing that triggered the search. A mock result two grades below a prediction is a different problem from a student who has never been comfortable in the subject, and the first session should be designed around which one it is. Families who send that detail are matched in days; families who send a general worry spend a fortnight discovering it.

The first session is a diagnosis rather than a lesson. Your child attempts real questions at the right level while the tutor watches and says little, and the session ends with three statements: where marks are being lost, what connects the losses, and roughly how many sessions that implies. It is free, it is taken with the tutor who would actually teach, and nothing is owed if the match is wrong. A trial used as a sales meeting with teaching attached establishes nothing.

After that, a written plan with a session range on it, a fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time that survives the Khuzam or Al Hamra commute, and a review at four weeks that asks whether the diagnosis held. If the subject turns out to need six sessions rather than a term, we will say so, and the slot can move to the next subject. The point of a plan with a number on it is that reality can be checked against it, which an open-ended arrangement makes impossible.

Where we tutor

Al Nakheel and the districts it is usually compared against

Each note below is about the school day and the evening it leaves behind, because that is the practical difference between these districts. The academic content of a Diploma subject does not change across them, and the middle of this page explains why.

Al Nakheel

The commercial heart of the emirate: offices, apartment blocks and the densest concentration of independent tutors in Ras Al Khaimah. Children here almost always travel out to school, so the evening starts later than the school bell suggests.

Khuzam

Inland, built around a British curriculum campus, and roughly fifteen minutes from the city centre outside peak. A child at that campus can reach an Al Nakheel flat by about four o'clock, which makes a five o'clock session realistic.

Al Uraibi and Al Mairid

Immediately adjacent to Al Nakheel and functionally part of the same catchment. Families here face an identical set of choices and are frequently quoted by the same local tutors at the same rates.

Al Dhait North and South

The large residential belt towards the ring road. Longer in from the coast road, so an in-home arrangement sourced here adds a drive in each direction to a day that already has one.

Al Hamra Village and Mina Al Arab

The southern coastal communities, with the international and British campuses that many Diploma students attend. A city-centre child travelling here does not get home before five, which rules out early weekday sessions.

Al Qusaidat and Al Mamourah

North-east of the centre, across the creek. The crossing is short in distance and unreliable in time, which is the single biggest argument against a physical arrangement between these districts and Al Nakheel.

Al Marjan Island

Reclaimed fronds off the Al Hamra coast, reached by one causeway. Diploma families here are the clearest case for remote delivery in the emirate, because every physical option adds a second journey to the same day.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the course and the level

Subject, Higher or Standard Level, school, year group and what prompted the enquiry. For a Diploma student the level is the critical detail, because a Higher Level course carries components that do not exist at Standard Level and needs a tutor who has taught them.

  2. 02

Hear the coverage position before clearing an evening

We say whether a tutor who has taught that exact course at that level is free this term, free at a different time, or not free at all. The last answer is given rather than hidden, because a Higher Level student placed with a generalist loses a term before anyone admits it.

  3. 03

A free diagnostic trial with the proposed tutor

One session, no payment beforehand, spent on real questions at the correct level. It ends with a loss pattern, the cause connecting the losses and an estimated session range. If the match is wrong you say so and nothing is owed.

  4. 04

A plan built on your school's calendar

Internal assessment deadlines are set by your school months before the board needs anything, so the plan is written around those dates rather than a generic timetable. Core supervision is booked a term ahead because drafting season is crowded everywhere.

  5. 05

A slot that survives the school run

One fixed weekly time in Gulf Standard Time, chosen against the actual commute from Khuzam or the coast rather than against an optimistic estimate. Where the drive makes weekday evenings unworkable, a Saturday block replaces two tired weekday hours.

  6. 06

Review, then stop when it is finished

A review at four weeks and another at the mock results. Each asks whether to continue, step up, switch subject or stop. A provider who never proposes stopping is not reviewing anything, and continuing past the papers costs money and achieves nothing.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The specifics are on the page, not behind a form

Criterion letters with their marks, the published core word limits, the two mathematics routes compared. Competitor pages in this search average around two thousand three hundred words and name no criterion at all. Reading this page should leave you better informed even if you never contact us.

Matched on the course, not the commute

Your district decides when a session can start; it should not decide who teaches. Insisting on proximity in this emirate shortens the list of Higher Level specialists to almost nothing and raises the published rate, because travel is unpaid time that comes back in the hourly figure.

No dates we cannot verify

We publish no IB examination or results dates anywhere, because the IB's site blocks automated checking and an unverified date is the one error a parent acts on. Cambridge and Pearson dates we do quote come with the source and, where they are historical, the exact day.

The coursework line is stated, not implied

A tutor questions, explains, models and marks. Nobody here writes a student's extended essay or internal assessment, and no official guide or mark scheme is handed over as a download. One site in this search cluster sells completed internal assessments; that is the market we are distinguishing ourselves from.

No approval we do not hold

IB Gram holds no accreditation, licence or partnership from the IB, from Cambridge, from Pearson or from any UAE education regulator, and has no office in the country. We name regulators to explain what they govern. Claiming their endorsement is the most dangerous sentence available on pages like this one.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Nakheel: your questions answered

Can an IB home tutor in Al Nakheel actually come to our apartment?+

Local independent tutors in the city do offer that, and the published UAE market for in-home one-to-one runs around AED 180 to 500 an hour across sources including Bestimate's 2026 table. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that is a service we run only in India. Our lessons for Al Nakheel families are one-to-one over live video, with a shared whiteboard and a recording afterwards. The trade is a person in the room against a tutor who has actually taught your child's course at the right level.

Is Diploma tutoring in Al Nakheel different from Diploma tutoring in Khuzam?+

Logistically yes, academically no. A Khuzam child is home by about four and can start at five; an Al Nakheel child travelling to the Al Hamra coast is not home before five and should probably take a Saturday block instead. What does not change is the content: the same criteria, the same component structures, the same places marks are lost. Treat the district as a scheduling fact and the specification as the matching fact, and the comparison resolves itself quickly.

How many marks is each mathematics exploration criterion worth?+

Twenty marks in total across five criteria. Use of mathematics carries six, presentation carries four, mathematical communication carries four, personal engagement carries three and reflection carries three. The distribution explains the usual failure: students work hard on the mathematics and lose the eight marks available for structure and notation, and reflection is frequently missing from a first draft entirely. Read the criteria in your child's current subject guide, because wording and allocations are set there and can change between syllabus cycles.

How long is the extended essay allowed to be?+

Four thousand words is the published maximum, and the theory of knowledge essay is capped at one thousand six hundred with the exhibition commentary at nine hundred and fifty. Those ceilings are the most useful planning numbers in the Diploma, because a word count converts straight into drafting weeks. The submission date, though, is your school's rather than the board's: schools set internal deadlines months early to allow for supervision and upload, which is why core support booked in the autumn works and the same support booked in April does not.

Which mathematics course should a student in Al Nakheel choose?+

It depends on the degree route and on how the student thinks, not on which sounds easier. Analysis and Approaches is algebra, calculus, proof and abstraction, and is commonly expected at Higher Level for engineering, physics, mathematics and many economics courses. Applications and Interpretation is modelling, statistics and heavy calculator use, and suits business, design, psychology and several social sciences. Requirements differ by university and by year, so read the published entry requirements for the specific courses on the list, including UAE universities.

What are the IB exam dates for the session our child is sitting?+

We will not tell you, and no tutoring page should. The IB's own website blocks automated checking, so nothing on this site states a Diploma examination or results date, and an unverified date is exactly the kind of error a parent acts on. Your child's IB coordinator holds the authoritative timetable for their session and is the only correct source. Cambridge and Pearson dates are different: those are published and checkable, and where we quote one we give the source and the exact historical day.

Why is it so hard to find a Higher Level specialist near the city centre?+

Because the private-school set in Ras Al Khaimah is small and concentrated in a handful of districts, so the pool of people who have taught Higher Level chemistry or Analysis and Approaches within driving distance of Al Nakheel is genuinely thin in any given year. The usual local substitute is a graduate in the subject who has never taught the Diploma, which is a different product at the same price. Removing distance from the match is the only way to widen that pool meaningfully.

Does a tuition centre in the city do the same job?+

It does a different job well. A centre buys structure, company and a shaped week, and for a student who works better with others in the room that is the right purchase. What a group class cannot buy here is a specialist in your child's exact course and level, because the economics of a centre depend on filling a room rather than on matching a syllabus. If the problem is a specific loss pattern in a Higher Level component, a group rate is cheap money spent on the wrong thing.

Our son has three Higher Level subjects and is drowning. Where do we start?+

With one subject, chosen on evidence rather than on which feels worst. Get one marked paper from each of the three and look for a shared cause, because three failing subjects usually have one: command-term reading, timed-paper pacing, or algebra that collapses under pressure. Fix the shared cause inside one subject with a tutor who knows the component, and the other two improve without being bought. Opening three slots at once gives each subject an hour a week and finishes none of them.

Will a tutor help with the internal assessment, and where is the line?+

Yes, with a firm boundary. A tutor explains what each criterion rewards, questions a research question, reads a draft the student has written and says that a claim is unsupported or that reflection is missing. A tutor does not write the internal assessment, does not draft the extended essay and does not edit a piece to completion. Submitted work that is not the candidate's own is malpractice under the IB's academic honesty rules and the consequence falls on the student rather than on the person who was paid.

Can you send us past papers and mark schemes to work from?+

No, and a provider who offers to is offering something they have no right to give. Subject guides, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the IB, and reproducing them as downloads is copyright infringement. What a tutor can do is work through them with your child inside a session and point you at the official page so you can obtain them properly, usually through the school. A library of other people's documents is a selling point we have deliberately given up.

Which regulator oversees our school here, and does it affect tutoring?+

Private schools in Ras Al Khaimah answer to the emirate's Department of Knowledge, which the UAE government's information service describes as regulating private education here, and which also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. It affects your calendar and your paperwork rather than your choice of tutor. It also does not endorse anybody: IB Gram holds no approval from that authority or any other, and a tutoring company implying otherwise is making a claim it cannot support.

Is a Saturday session better than a weekday one for a commuting family?+

Often, and it is under-used. A child who gets home at five, eats and then sits down at half past six produces an hour of tired work that costs a full hour of money. One longer Saturday block instead of two weekday sessions gives you a fresher student, room for a full timed paper under exam conditions, and marking in the same sitting. It also survives school events and late buses, which quietly remove several weekday sessions from every school year.

What should we be measuring by the fourth week of Diploma sessions?+

By a shrinking topic list and by marks on timed work, not by how the sessions feel. Agree at the start what will be measured: which topics come off the list, what a timed paper scores in week one against week eight, and whether the specific losses named in the diagnosis have stopped. Review formally at four weeks and again at the mock results. If nothing has moved by the second review, the diagnosis was wrong or the match is wrong, and both are fixable if you are looking.

What happens if the tutor is not right for our child?+

You say so, inside the first few weeks, and we change the match without you buying the term again. The free trial exists precisely to make that conversation happen before money is involved rather than after, and it is taken with the tutor who would actually teach rather than with a coordinator. Ask any provider in this market the same question before the first invoice. A business whose pricing depends on you not asking it has told you something useful about everything else.

Use the district for the timetable and the specification for the tutor

The comparison between Al Nakheel and Khuzam, or Al Nakheel and the coast, is worth running once: it tells you whether a session can start at five, at six, or only on a Saturday. After that it has nothing left to tell you, because criterion E is worth six marks in every district and the extended essay ceiling is four thousand words in all of them. Send us the subject, the level, the school and the year, and your child sits a free trial lesson with a tutor who has taught that course, one-to-one over live video, at a Gulf Standard Time slot that survives the school run.
