IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Marjan Island

Families searching for an IGCSE home tutor in Al Marjan Island are usually asking a money question before anything else: what is the fair rate, and what does the extra actually buy? This page publishes the AED bands the Ras Al Khaimah market charges, prices the causeway drive in billable minutes, and names the three places families lose money. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, starting with a free trial lesson so you judge the teaching before any money changes hands.

  • Market AED bands quoted with the provider and the month read
  • One-to-one over live video, no travel charge, no cancelled drive
  • Cambridge and Pearson syllabus codes named, not just subjects

IB & IGCSE in Al Marjan Island

The cost question, answered before anything is sold to you

Almost every enquiry that reaches us from Al Marjan Island begins with price, and almost none of the pages competing for this search will answer it. Three of the six best-ranking tutoring pages in the UAE publish no figure at all; two quote US dollars, a currency no family here transacts in. One agency's own frequently-asked-questions block poses the question "how much does a tutor cost" and then declines to say. So this page starts with numbers, attributes every one of them to whoever published it, and then explains what sits behind the gap between the cheapest band and the dearest.

The headline is simple. A university-student tutor working online in this market advertises from roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour. A qualified subject teacher online sits around AED 150 to AED 300. Ask for someone to arrive at a door and the published range moves to AED 180 to AED 500, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table for the UAE putting in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors asking AED 200 to 500. A named premium tutor can publish AED 650. The same teaching hour therefore costs between AED 45 and AED 650 depending on who is selling it and how they get to you.

Al Marjan Island sharpens that gap more than most addresses in the emirate. The island is four reclaimed fronds reached by a single causeway off the Al Hamra coast road, which means a tutor living in Al Nakheel, Al Uraibi or Al Dhait is looking at twenty-five to forty minutes each way on a weekday evening. That is unpaid time for them and it has to be priced into the hour you buy. A tutor who can sell three or four consecutive online hours between five and nine in the evening does not need to charge what a tutor who can physically fit two of them does.

This is also where the honesty has to be plain. IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address anywhere in the UAE; in-home visits are a service we run only in India. Our lessons here are one-to-one online tuition over live video, with a shared whiteboard and a recording of the session. We are making the case for that format on the evidence above rather than apologising for it, because the alternative on an island postcode is paying a travel premium for a smaller pool of subject specialists.

The rest of the page is arranged the way a careful family actually spends. What the market charges, with sources. What the drive costs, in minutes and in dirhams. Monthly budgets rather than hourly rates, because nobody buys a single hour. The questions that separate a fair quote from a bad one. The exam calendar that decides whether money spent in February is early or late. And the two things that make a cheap tutor expensive: a tutor with no permit, and a tutor willing to cross a line on coursework that can cost your child a qualification.

CIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Two years of single-subject courses, each examined separately, with syllabus codes that matter more than the brand name: maths 0580, physics 0625, chemistry 0620, biology 0610, English first language 0500. Most subjects run a Core and an Extended tier with different grade ceilings, and the tier your child's school entered them for is the first thing a tutor needs to know.

Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a different timetable for each. Cambridge states that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses a paper after working from the wrong zone's timetable, so a Ras Al Khaimah family should take dates from the school's exams officer rather than from a tutor's memory.

EDXAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other board you will meet in this emirate, with its own codes: 4MA1 for maths, 4PH1 for physics. Some subjects are offered in a modular shape, so a student can bank a unit result and carry it forward rather than sitting everything in one window. That changes the arithmetic of how many paid hours are needed and when.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November each year. The published results history is checkable: June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also issues provisional timetables well ahead of a series, so link the live PDF rather than trusting a date on any tutoring page.

LSECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

The three years before IGCSE, with Checkpoint tests offered in March, May and October. Families on the island often start here because an hour a week in Year 8 costs the same as an hour a week in Year 11 and buys considerably more. The content is thinner, so the hour goes into fluency rather than into damage control.

Spending in Years 7 to 9 is the cheapest spending available to a Ras Al Khaimah family, because the tier decision at the end of Year 9 sets a grade ceiling. A child placed into Core maths rather than Extended cannot be awarded above grade C on the Cambridge scale, and no amount of money spent in Year 11 undoes that entry.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Where many island IGCSE students go next, at the RAK Academy international campus or outside the emirate. Six subjects at Higher or Standard Level plus three core pieces, and the cost profile is different: two years of steady support rather than a sprint, with the internal assessment and extended essay needing feedback rather than hours of teaching.

Diploma support is the one place where budget tutoring reliably wastes money in this emirate. A generalist can supervise homework; only someone who has taught the subject can tell a Higher Level student which of their exploration's marks are already lost. Price the Diploma by the term, not the hour.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Al Marjan Island families ask for most, with the syllabus code and the honest note on where the paid hours go. The subject matters to the budget: a maths repair is linear and predictable, a first-language English repair is not.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended

The most predictable spend of the lot. Marks concentrate in algebraic manipulation, bearings and vectors, and the longer Paper 4 structured questions. A diagnostic hour on two past papers will usually locate the whole problem, which is why maths rarely needs an open-ended commitment.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Extended only

Taken alongside 0580 by students heading for Higher Level Diploma maths or A-Level. Calculus and trigonometric identities arrive with no Core safety net. Fewer tutors in this emirate have taught it, which is exactly where an online roster beats a local search.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism cost more marks than any other topic, and the alternative-to-practical paper is a separate skill from the theory. Budget roughly a third of the hours for practical-method questions rather than content.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations, ionic equations and the qualitative-analysis tables are where grades are made. Students who can describe a reaction in words and not in symbols lose marks steadily across all three papers, and that is a cheap fix once identified.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

Content-heavy and deceptively approachable, which is why families underspend on it. The marks go on precise terminology and on data-handling questions about unfamiliar experiments. Flashcards do not fix either.

English as a First Language (Cambridge 0500)

Single tier

Directed writing and the reading-for-ideas questions reward a technique that can be taught in a handful of sessions and then needs practice. This is the subject where parents most often buy too many hours too early and too few in the final term.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510)

Core and Extended

A different paper from first-language English with its own mark scheme, and the one most often mismatched by a generalist tutor. Listening and speaking components carry weight that written practice alone will not move.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Extended

Diagram accuracy and the evaluation half of the longer answers decide the grade. Students who can define every term and still score in the middle band are almost always losing the same four evaluation marks each time.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

Core and Extended

A case-study paper that punishes generic answers. The paid hours should go on applying theory to the printed business rather than on learning more theory, which is the opposite of how most revision guides are organised.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Pseudocode, trace tables and data representation. The paper rewards exact notation, so a tutor who codes professionally but has not taught 0478 will often coach a style the mark scheme does not credit.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families on the island buy IGCSE support from us, priced and scheduled differently. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video, so none of them carries a travel charge or a cancelled-for-traffic risk.

Weekly one-to-one, one subject

The default and the cheapest thing that actually works: sixty or ninety minutes a week on a single subject, with marked work between sessions. Buying this for one subject properly beats spreading the same budget across three, which is the commonest spending mistake we see from this postcode.

  • One fixed Gulf Standard Time slot, held for the term
  • Written work set after every session and marked before the next
  • A topic list that shrinks visibly rather than a general sense of progress
  • Session recording available to the family afterwards

Pre-series intensive block

A fixed number of sessions bought as a block in the eight to twelve weeks before a June or November paper, built entirely around timed past-paper work. Money spent here moves a grade more reliably than the same money spent in October, because the diagnosis is based on real attempts rather than on a teacher's impression.

  • Two sessions a week during the block, then back to one
  • Full timed papers sat under exam conditions at home
  • Marking against the official mark scheme, with the loss pattern named
  • A written priority list for the last fortnight

Two-subject split with one tutor

Where a single tutor covers two related subjects, usually maths with physics or chemistry with biology. It is cheaper than two separate arrangements and it removes the duplication of diagnosis, because the same person sees that the algebra failing in physics is the algebra failing in maths.

  • One scheduling conversation rather than two
  • Shared diagnostic hour across both subjects
  • Common skills taught once: rearranging formulae, significant figures, graph work
  • Works for siblings in the same year only if their entries match

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Marjan Island

01

What the Ras Al Khaimah market actually charges, with sources

  • Figures below are other providers' published rates, read in October 2026, not IB Gram's price list
  • Market ranges are quoted per 60 minutes unless the provider stated otherwise
  • A monthly package rate and an hourly rate are rarely comparable without the session length
  • Nobody in this market publishes a Ras Al Khaimah rate specifically, so UAE-wide bands are the honest proxy

A qualified subject teacher working online in the UAE advertises between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour. That is the band to hold in your head, because almost everything below it buys supervision rather than teaching, and almost everything above it is buying either travel or reputation. The table attributes each band to whoever published it, with the date we read it, so you can check the claim rather than take ours.

Reading it from the cheap end upwards is more useful than the other way round. The AED 45 to 150 band exists and it is not a scam: a capable undergraduate can keep a Year 10 student working through homework and can re-explain a topic the school rushed. What that band does not reliably include is mark-scheme literacy, which is the ability to look at a four-mark answer and say precisely which mark is missing and why. That skill is what the AED 150 to 300 band is actually for, and it is the difference between a child who understands physics and a child who scores well in 0625.

Above AED 300 the money is mostly buying one of two things. Either a tutor is physically travelling, in which case you are funding their unpaid drive to the causeway, or they are selling a name. Examiner branding is worth something when it is current and evidenced, and worth nothing when it is a line on a website. Ask when they last marked, for which board, and for which component. A tutor who cannot answer that precisely is charging a premium for a credential they cannot show you.

02

Pricing the causeway: what the drive onto the island costs you

Al Marjan Island has one road in. Whatever the traffic is doing on the Al Hamra coast road, a tutor coming from the city centre is committing an hour of their evening to travel before a single minute of teaching happens. Nobody absorbs that for free, and the honest version is that it appears in your hourly rate rather than on a separate line of the invoice.

The arithmetic is worth doing out loud. A tutor who works five to nine on a weekday can sell four online hours. Add a forty-minute drive out and back plus the setup either side, and the same evening yields two in-home hours. To earn the same amount they must charge roughly double, which is exactly the gap between the AED 150 to 300 online band and the AED 180 to 500 in-home band that Bestimate and the independent home-tutor market publish. The premium is not greed; it is geometry.

The second cost is less visible and more annoying. A physical session is fragile. Weather, road works at the Al Hamra junction, a late school bus or a tutor's own traffic turns a session into a refund argument or a loss. An online slot in the same situation moves by ninety minutes and still happens. Across a thirty-week school year, the number of sessions that actually take place is a bigger lever on outcomes than the hourly rate you negotiated in September. A family who loses four physical sessions to the coast road has paid the travel premium and received thirteen per cent less teaching for it, which is the quiet way an in-home arrangement becomes the dearest option on the island rather than merely the dearer one.

The three places Al Marjan Island families lose money

  • One subject fixed properly beats three subjects maintained
  • Pay for a diagnostic hour before committing to a term
  • After February of the exam year, buy marking and timed practice rather than teaching
  • Never buy a package longer than you can cancel if the match is wrong

The first is spreading a budget too thin. A family with AED 1,200 a month to spend will often buy an hour a week of maths, an hour of physics and an hour of chemistry. Three subjects each get thirty hours across a school year, which is enough to keep a topic list from growing and not enough to shrink one. The same budget on one subject, with marked work between sessions, moves that subject properly and then releases the slot for the next. Sequential beats simultaneous, and it is the single most expensive instinct to argue a parent out of.

The second is buying hours before a diagnosis. A tutor who starts teaching in the first session is guessing. The useful first hour is a student sitting two past-paper questions badly while someone watches, because the loss pattern is almost never what the school report says it is. We see children described as weak at algebra who are actually losing marks to units and significant figures across every subject, and that is four sessions of work, not forty.

The third is paying for content a child already has. By February of Year 11 most students have been taught everything; what they lack is the ability to convert knowledge into marks under timed conditions. Hours spent re-teaching the syllabus in the final term are hours spent on the part the school already did. The money belongs on timed papers, on marking against the official scheme, and on the specific command terms that are costing marks. That is cheaper than it sounds, because it is finite.

04

Monthly budgets, because nobody buys a single hour

Hourly rates are how tutors advertise and monthly outlay is how families actually decide. Bestimate's UAE estimates for a weekly one-hour session land at AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packaged offers circulate too: AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

Packages are worth reading carefully rather than dismissing. Eight sessions for AED 799 is about AED 100 a session, which is good value if the sessions are sixty minutes with a subject teacher and poor value if they are forty-five minutes with whoever was free. The number that matters is not the monthly figure but the cost per teaching hour with a named tutor you have met. Ask for that explicitly and the comparison between two providers becomes possible in about thirty seconds.

Set the budget against the term rather than the month, because tutoring demand is seasonal and your child's need is not flat. A sensible Ras Al Khaimah plan spends lightly from September to December, steps up for the January and February mock window, peaks in the eight weeks before the paper, and stops. Spreading the same total evenly across the year costs identical money and achieves less, because the expensive weeks are the ones nearest the exam. Written down as a term budget rather than a monthly direct debit, the plan also becomes something you can stop, which is the feature families value most once the paper has been sat.

Four questions that separate a fair quote from a bad one

Every provider sounds similar on a website and stops sounding similar under four questions. The first is which syllabus code the tutor has taught, not which subject. "IGCSE physics" is not an answer; "Cambridge 0625 Extended, including the alternative-to-practical paper" is. A tutor who has taught 4PH1 and not 0625 is a good tutor for a different child, and in an emirate where specialist subject teachers are genuinely scarce locally this is the question that matters most.

The second is what happens between sessions. A rate that includes setting and marking written work is a different product from a rate that covers the hour alone. Compare two quotes without establishing that and you will pick the wrong one. The third is what a cancellation costs, in both directions, and the fourth is how a change of tutor works if the match is wrong in week three. A provider with no answer to the fourth question is hoping you will not ask it.

There is a fifth question worth asking about any UAE tutoring business, and it is about the permit rather than the price. Private tutoring here is regulated: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE. Anyone offering private lessons without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. A provider who treats that as an irrelevance is telling you something about how they treat everything else.

Tutoring cost in context: fees in this emirate, and who approves them

A tutoring bill only makes sense against the school bill. Private schools in Ras Al Khaimah are regulated by the emirate's Department of Knowledge, which the UAE government's own information service describes as regulating private education in the emirate. Ras Al Khaimah's authority also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so fee setting here is a regulated act rather than a school's unilateral decision.

That matters to a family budgeting for both. In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the following academic year, under an economic incentives package. Ras Al Khaimah families cannot read that announcement as applying to them, because their fees sit with their own regulator; what they can take from it is the principle that the fee line is approved and checkable rather than arbitrary, and so is worth querying.

Set against a school fee, a year of one-subject tutoring at the mid-market monthly band is a meaningful but not enormous addition, and it is the only part of the education bill a family controls month to month. That is the argument for spending it deliberately. The households that get the most from it are not the ones that spend the most; they are the ones that spend in the eight weeks where the spending converts into marks, and stop in the months where it does not.

The exam calendar that decides whether your money is early or late

Tutoring money has a shelf life. The same AED 1,000 buys considerably more in the eight weeks before a paper than in the eight weeks after the previous one, and the calendar is what tells you which eight weeks you are in. Cambridge International runs its IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November.

One thing to be clear about, because it catches families who have moved here from India: Cambridge's February/March series is offered in India only. A Ras Al Khaimah candidate sits June, with November available as the resit route. If you read a tutoring page quoting an early-spring exam window and a November entry deadline to a UAE family, you are reading a page written for a different country.

The second thing is that Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable, and says plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone's version. Dates therefore come from your child's exams officer, never from a tutor. What a tutor should give you instead is the shape of the run-up counted backwards from the paper, which is what the table below does. Pearson behaves the same way: it publishes provisional timetables for a series well in advance and then issues a final version, so the only safe practice is to link the live official document rather than restate dates that can still be revised. Read backwards, the run-up has three money decisions in it: whether to book a slot in the autumn, whether the mock results justify stepping up, and when to switch the spending from teaching to marking.

Is the person you are paying legally permitted to tutor here?

This is a cost question as much as a compliance one, because the cheapest quote in the market is often cheap for exactly this reason. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit came in under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and the application runs through MoHRE's smart app, website and e-services system under the service name "Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing", with a stated two-working-day completion time.

The eligibility list is broader than most families expect. It includes teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students. Because the permit costs nothing and takes two working days, a tutor without one has no economic excuse, and the UAE's position is unambiguous: individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so nobody should be quoting you an amount.

One boundary deserves naming because it affects who you should even ask. In Abu Dhabi, professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's own code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's school. That is reported policy rather than wording we can quote verbatim, and it is worth verifying against the current document, but the principle is sound everywhere: your child's own classroom teacher is the wrong person to pay privately.

What no amount of money should buy: the coursework line

  • A tutor may read a draft, question it and name what is weak; the rewriting is the student's
  • Feedback belongs in conversation and annotation, never in the submitted file
  • Official papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked, not supplied as downloads
  • Any offer to produce assessed work should end the conversation with that provider

There is a market in this region for completed assessed work, and it is priced openly. One site in this search cluster advertises finished internal assessments at a four-figure dirham sum. A family comparing quotes needs to understand that this is not an expensive version of tutoring; it is a different transaction with a different risk, and the risk sits entirely with the student.

The rule is not complicated. A tutor teaches, explains, questions, models a technique and gives feedback on work the student has produced. A tutor does not write a student's coursework, does not draft their internal assessment and does not edit a piece to completion. Under the IB's academic honesty rules, submitted work that is not the student's own is malpractice, and the consequence lands on the candidate rather than on the person who was paid. No price makes that a good purchase.

The same boundary applies to materials, and it is worth knowing because some providers advertise it as a feature. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB. A tutor can work through them with a student in a session and can point you to the official page; reproducing them as downloads is copyright infringement. If a provider's selling point is a library of other people's documents, they are offering you something they are not entitled to give. Saying this plainly costs us a selling point that two competitors in this search use freely, and it is still the right way round.

Where we tutor

Al Marjan Island and the districts your tutor would otherwise drive from

Every note below is about distance and money rather than scenery, because on this page that is the live question. A tutor's postcode changes what they must charge; it does not change how well they know the specification your child is entered for.

Al Marjan Island

Four reclaimed fronds of apartments and resort towers reached by one causeway. No school sits on the island, so every child here already commutes, and a tutor arriving in the evening adds a second journey to the same day.

Al Hamra Village

The nearest mainland community and the nearest campuses, with RAK Academy's British and international schools a short drive away. The closest thing the island has to a local tutor pool, and still a twenty-minute round trip.

Mina Al Arab and Hayat Island

Villas and low-rise apartments south along the coast road. Families here face the same arithmetic as Al Marjan, which is why the two communities ask for identical rate comparisons.

Al Nakheel and Al Uraibi

The commercial centre, where most of the emirate's independent tutors actually live. A tutor from here is the one charging you the full travel premium to reach the causeway on a weekday evening.

Khuzam

Inland district around the RAK Academy British School campus. Many island children are enrolled here, so the school day already ends with a drive; adding a second one rarely survives a full term.

Al Dhait North and South

Large residential belt towards the ring road. Tutors advertising locally in Al Dhait are generally pricing for Al Dhait, and an island booking is quoted at the top of their range.

Al Jazirah Al Hamra

Between Al Hamra and the Dubai road corridor, with families often working south in Umm Al Quwain or Dubai. Evening availability is the binding constraint here rather than price.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Marjan Island

The coastal campuses nearest Al Marjan Island

Children living on the island are typically enrolled on the Al Hamra side or inland at Khuzam. These are the campuses whose term dates, mock windows and board entries shape when tutoring money is well spent.

  • RAK Academy - British School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - International School Al Hamra
  • RAK English Speaking School
  • RAK Academy - British School Khuzam

The city-side campuses island families also use

A sizeable minority of island households are on Indian-curriculum or city British fee scales, and commute north each morning. Their IGCSE entries may sit with a different board from their neighbours' on the same frond.

  • The Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Our Own English High School, Ras Al Khaimah
  • Scholars Indian School, Ras Al Khaimah
  • Little Flower English School, Ras Al Khaimah

Schools are named here as the local education context for families on Al Marjan Island; IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement by or relationship to any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the code, not just the subject

Send the subject, the board, the syllabus code if you know it, the tier, and the school. For an Al Marjan Island family that is usually a RAK Academy or city-centre entry, and the code decides which tutors are even a candidate. Getting this right in the first message removes a week of mismatched trials.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, used as a diagnosis

One free session with the proposed tutor, spent watching your child attempt real past-paper questions rather than being taught at. You end it knowing the loss pattern and the number of sessions it implies. If the match is wrong, you have spent nothing and you say so.

  3. 03

A written plan with a number of hours on it

Before the first paid session, a short plan naming the topics, the components and an estimated range of sessions. An estimate can be wrong and an open-ended commitment cannot be checked, so we give you the former. You decide the budget against it.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with marked work between

A fixed Gulf Standard Time slot, work set after each session and marked before the next, and a topic list that visibly shrinks. The recording stays available to you. Progress is reported against the plan rather than as a general impression.

  5. 05

Step up for the eight weeks that matter, then stop

Move to two sessions a week for the pre-series block, switch from teaching to timed papers and marking, and finish. Continuing past the paper costs money and buys nothing. We will tell you when that point has arrived.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rates on this page are other people's, with dates

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider that published it and the month we read it. We do not present market bands as our price, and we do not publish a rate card we would have to defend against a currency we do not quote in. Our own cost comes up in the consultation, against the plan.

Distance stops filtering your shortlist

Specialist subject teachers are genuinely scarce in the northern emirates. Searching for someone who will drive to the island narrows the pool to whoever is nearby and willing; searching the roster for a 0606 or 4PH1 teacher does not. That is the practical argument for online delivery here, and it is the one we are making.

A diagnosis before a commitment

The first session exists to find the loss pattern, not to start the syllabus again. Families who know that their child is losing marks to units and command terms rather than to content buy four sessions instead of a term, which is a worse outcome for us and the right one for them.

Sessions that survive a Ras Al Khaimah week

Nothing about a live video lesson depends on the coast road, a school bus or the weather. A slot that has to move moves by ninety minutes and still happens. Across a school year the count of sessions that actually took place matters more than the rate you agreed in September.

The boundaries are written down, not implied

We say plainly what a tutor may not do with coursework, we do not supply other people's mark schemes as downloads, and we claim no regulator or board approval, because IB Gram holds none. On a page full of numbers, those are the claims most worth checking.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Marjan Island: your questions answered

What should an IGCSE home tutor in Al Marjan Island cost per hour?+

Treat AED 150 to 300 an hour as the band for a qualified subject teacher working online, which is where Unitors publishes its IGCSE and IB rates. Ask for someone to travel to the island and the published market moves to AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate's UAE table at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors asking 200 to 500. Below AED 150 you are generally buying supervision rather than mark-scheme teaching. Those are other providers' figures, read in October 2026, not ours; IB Gram's own cost is discussed against a written plan after the free trial lesson.

Why is an in-home rate higher than an online rate for the same teacher?+

Because travel is unpaid time that still has to be paid for. A tutor working five to nine on a weekday can sell four consecutive online hours. Add twenty-five to forty minutes each way to Al Marjan Island plus setting up either side and the same evening yields two. To earn the same income they must charge roughly double, which is exactly the gap between the published online and in-home bands. The premium funds the drive, not better teaching. IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in the UAE at all; our lessons here are one-to-one online.

Is AED 45 an hour ever a sensible choice for a Year 10 student?+

Sometimes, for a narrow job. A capable undergraduate at the bottom of the market can keep a child working, re-explain something the school covered too fast, and hold a homework routine together. That is real value for a Year 9 or early Year 10 student who is coping but drifting. What that band rarely includes is the ability to look at a four-mark answer and name the missing mark. If the problem is marks rather than effort, the cheap hour will not find it, and six months of it costs more than eight sessions with someone who can.

Should we pay per hour or buy a monthly package for a child on the island?+

Compare them on one number: the cost per teaching hour with a named tutor you have met. A package advertised at AED 799 for eight sessions is about AED 100 a session, which is good if those are sixty-minute sessions with a subject teacher and poor if they are forty-five minutes with whoever is free. Packages also need an exit. Ask what happens if the tutor is wrong in week three, and whether unused sessions survive a pause. If either answer is vague, pay by the hour until you trust the arrangement.

Do the AED figures quoted on this page include VAT?+

We cannot tell you, and neither can most of the pages quoting them. The bands here are other providers' published rates read in October 2026, and few of them state their tax treatment. We are deliberately not stating how UAE value added tax applies to tuition, because that is a question for the Federal Tax Authority's own guidance rather than for a tutoring page. What you should do is simple: ask any provider, in writing, whether the number they quoted is the number you will be charged. A quote that cannot answer that is not a quote.

How many paid hours does repairing one IGCSE subject usually take?+

Far fewer than most families expect, once the problem is named. A maths grade held back by algebraic manipulation and Paper 4 structured-question technique is often eight to twelve sessions of targeted work. A physics grade held back by the alternative-to-practical paper can be six. What takes a term is re-teaching a syllabus the school has already taught, which is why the diagnostic hour matters so much: it is the difference between buying a finite job and buying an open-ended arrangement. Ask for an estimated session range in writing before you start.

Does sharing one paid hour between two children on the island save money?+

Only if their entries match, and on Al Marjan Island they frequently do not. Two siblings in the same year group at the same school taking the same tier of the same syllabus code can share an hour productively. Two children a year apart, or one on Cambridge 0580 and one on Pearson 4MA1, will each get half a session rather than a shared one. The honest saving usually comes from a different direction: one tutor covering two related subjects for the same child, which removes the duplicated diagnosis rather than halving the attention.

Do tutoring rates around Ras Al Khaimah rise closer to the June series?+

Availability tightens rather than prices visibly jumping. From February onwards the tutors who have taught your child's syllabus code are the ones already booked, and what remains is either a different specialism or a higher band. The practical effect on a family budget is the same as a price rise: you pay more for a worse match. Booking the slot in the autumn and running lightly until the mock window costs less across the year than appearing in March with eight weeks to go, which is also when the teaching has to be replaced by marking.

What is the single most common way island families waste tutoring money?+

Spreading a budget across three subjects at once. An hour a week in each gives every subject about thirty hours across the year, enough to stop a topic list growing and not enough to shrink one. The same money on one subject, with work set and marked between sessions, closes that subject and frees the slot. Families resist it because three worrying subjects feel like three problems, but they usually share one cause: units, command terms, or timed-paper technique that fails everywhere. Fix the cause in one subject and the others improve without being bought.

Can we start with one subject now and add another later in the year?+

That is the sequence we would recommend anyway, and it is the cheaper order. Start with the subject where the gap between current and target grade is widest, run it until the topic list is short, then move the slot. If you add a second subject it should be because the first no longer needs the hour, not because the worry list grew. The one exception is a pre-series block in the final eight weeks, where two subjects can share timed-paper practice because the work has stopped being teaching and become marking.

Does a tutor charge for a session cancelled because of the causeway traffic?+

With an in-home arrangement, that depends entirely on a policy you should read before paying anything, and the fair version binds both sides equally. It is also the strongest practical argument against buying travel at all on an island postcode: weather, road works at the Al Hamra junction or a late school bus turns a physical session into a refund conversation. A live video lesson in the same situation moves ninety minutes later the same evening. Across thirty weeks, the number of sessions that actually happened matters more than the hourly rate.

How does a year of tutoring compare with what we already pay in school fees?+

One subject at the mid-market band is roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month on Bestimate's UAE estimates, so a focused two-term plan is a meaningful addition to a school bill rather than a rival to it. The difference is control. Private school fees in Ras Al Khaimah are approved by the emirate's Department of Knowledge, which also approves curricula and assessment methods, so the fee line is largely fixed once you have chosen a school. The tutoring line is the part of the education budget a family can switch on and off by month.

Which IGCSE subjects tend to need the most paid hours?+

First-language English and the essay-weighted humanities, because the skill being bought is judgement rather than content and judgement takes practice to shift. Economics 0455 is the classic case: a student who can define every term and still sits in the middle band is usually losing the same evaluation marks every time, and that takes several marked attempts to correct. Maths and physics are the opposite. The loss pattern is usually narrow, diagnosable in one session, and fixable in eight to twelve, which makes them the cheapest grades to move.

Is a tuition centre in Al Nakheel cheaper than one-to-one for an island family?+

Per hour, yes, and the comparison is not really about the hour. A group class at a centre splits a teacher's attention across the room and adds the same drive you were trying to avoid, this time in both directions and at a fixed time you cannot move. A centre earns its place when a child needs structure and company more than diagnosis. If the problem is a specific loss pattern in a specific component, a group rate is cheap money spent on the wrong thing, and the drive makes it dearer than it looks.

What does IB Gram actually charge, and how do we find out?+

We do not publish a rate card on these pages, deliberately. Our cost depends on the subject, the level, the number of sessions your written plan calls for and whether you are buying a term or a pre-series block, and a single number on a page would be either misleading or useless. The route is a free trial lesson with the proposed tutor, a written plan with an estimated session range, and then a figure against that plan. You see the teaching before you see a price, and you owe nothing if the match is wrong.

Start with the diagnosis, then decide what to spend

If you have read this far you already know more about what IGCSE tuition costs around Ras Al Khaimah than most of the pages selling it will tell you. The next step is cheap and specific. Send the subject, the board, the syllabus code and the tier, and we will put a tutor who has taught that exact specification in front of your child for a free trial lesson, delivered one-to-one over live video at a Gulf Standard Time slot that fits an Al Marjan Island evening. You end that session with a loss pattern, an estimated number of hours and a number to decide against. If the match is wrong, you say so and you have spent nothing.
