IGCSE Tutor near me in TECOM

If you are searching for an IGCSE tutor near me in TECOM, the question underneath it is usually sharper than the words: is there anybody within reach who actually knows my child's syllabus? The honest answer for Barsha Heights is that the local pool is small, largely unverified, and advertised on community boards rather than checkable anywhere. This page gives you the questions that separate a specialist from a generalist, the permit rules, and what IB Gram delivers instead, which is one-to-one tuition over live video.

  • Ten verification questions with the answers a genuine specialist gives
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit explained by tutor category, with how to check it
  • Syllabus codes named: 0580, 0610, 0620, 0625, 4MA1, 4PH1 and the rest

IB & IGCSE in TECOM

The honest answer about the tutor pool around Barsha Heights

TECOM, which the maps now call Barsha Heights, is unusual among Dubai neighbourhoods in one specific way: it has no large school campus of its own. It is towers, offices and apartments wedged between Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai Internet City and Al Barsha, and almost every secondary-age child living in it is bussed outward in the morning. That single fact shapes the answer to the question you typed, because the local tutoring market in a community without a school is different from the market in a community with three.

What exists near you, in practice, is a scatter of freelance tutors advertising on building noticeboards, community groups and classified sites, plus the tuition centres along the Al Barsha and Dubai Marina corridors. Some of those freelancers are excellent. The problem is not quality, it is verifiability: you cannot tell from a community post whether somebody has taught Cambridge Chemistry 0620 Extended with Paper 6 or whether they once did A Level chemistry themselves. The post looks identical either way, and the rate often does too.

So the useful thing this page can do is not to insist that nearby is bad. It is to hand you the questions that tell the two apart in five minutes, whoever you end up hiring. There are about ten of them, the answers are short, and a genuine specialist gives them without hesitating. We have published them below with the right answers alongside, which is an odd thing for a tutoring company to do and is also the only version of this page worth writing.

Alongside that, there is a legal question most families never ask and should. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers specific categories of person including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Nobody advertising on a noticeboard volunteers this.

On what we provide: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, with the past paper and the mark scheme shared on screen. For a Barsha Heights family that trade is unusually clean, because the children are already commuting outward for school and the last thing the week needs is another journey. What the online format buys is the specialist your postcode does not contain.

One more thing is worth setting straight before the detail. Nearby is not a proxy for good, and distant is not a proxy for cheap. The published Dubai bands run from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour at the budget floor up to AED 650 at the premium end, and there are generalists and specialists at almost every point on that range, advertising in almost identical language. The variable that predicts whether an hour helps your child is whether the person has taught the exact syllabus code and tier your child is entered for. Everything on this page is organised around letting you check that for yourself, with whoever you end up hiring.

At a glance

  • Barsha Heights has no large school campus of its own; secondary students are bussed out
  • The nearby tutoring pool is largely freelance and advertised rather than verifiable
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge for two years
  • No fine schedule for unpermitted tutoring is published, so no amount should be quoted to you
  • Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE differ in tiering and in how practical work is assessed
  • A tutor who cannot name your child's syllabus code has not looked at the timetable
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Before verifying anybody, be clear about what your child is actually sitting. These are the four things an IGCSE tutor has to be matched against, and families routinely know only the first.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

The most common route in the British-curriculum schools that Barsha Heights children travel to. Single sciences are tiered Core or Extended, with Core capped at the middle grades and Extended reaching the top. Mathematics 0580 is similarly tiered. The practical component in the sciences is either Paper 5, a laboratory test, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical, and the school chooses which.

UAE candidates sit the June series with November as the resit route. The February and March series is offered to India only. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that using the correct zone timetable is essential, and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

4MA1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Structurally different from Cambridge in ways that matter when matching a tutor. Mathematics 4MA1 is tiered Foundation or Higher rather than Core or Extended. The sciences, 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1, are untiered and have no separate practical examination at all, with practical skills examined inside the written papers. A tutor used only to Cambridge will prepare an Edexcel candidate for the wrong thing.

Pearson runs International GCSE in a May or June window and a November window. The published record is checkable: the November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the following day, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

TIERFixed at the entry deadline

The Tier Your Child Is Entered For

The least-known and most consequential fact on the whole course. Cambridge Core candidates sit different papers from Extended candidates and cannot reach the top grades. Pearson Foundation and Higher work the same way in mathematics. The tier is fixed at the final entry deadline, months before the exam, and no amount of tutoring afterwards changes which paper the student sits.

Dubai schools generally form the tier decision at the end of Year 10 or early Year 11 using internal assessment evidence. A family wanting an Extended entry has to make that case while the evidence can still be produced, which means during Year 10 rather than during the term the entry is submitted.

AFTERAges 16 and beyond

What the Grades Are Used For

IGCSE grades gate sixth-form entry into A Level or the IB Diploma, and they feed Ministry of Education equivalency for students who later apply to UAE universities. The second use catches families out because it arrives years later. A dropped subject in Year 10 can turn into an equivalency problem when nobody remembers the decision.

The published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five, plus one A Level at no less than E or two AS Levels at the same grade. Verify the current rules with the Ministry rather than with any tutoring site.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

An IGCSE tutor near TECOM is usually wanted for one of these. The code is the thing to match on; the subject name is not enough, because two boards teach the same subject differently and tier it differently.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Tiered, so the first verification question is which tier. Extended covers functions, transformations, vectors and more demanding algebra that Core does not. Marks are lost on unshown working, which gives away method marks that were already earned, and on misreading a question that asks for an exact answer rather than a rounded one.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics 4MA1

Foundation and Higher

Two written papers and a Foundation or Higher tier rather than Core or Extended. The question-style distribution differs from Cambridge enough that pacing has to be relearned, which is a two-session job if caught before a mock and a lost paper if not. A tutor should know which tier and which paper structure without asking twice.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Electricity decides grades: series and parallel resistance, potential dividers, electromotive force against potential difference. Ask any prospective tutor whether your child sits Paper 5 or Paper 6. If they do not know the difference between a practical test and an alternative-to-practical paper, they have not taught this syllabus.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

The Extended tier separates students on quantitative work: moles with a limiting reagent, ionic equations with state symbols, and electrode products in the electrolysis of aqueous solutions. Qualitative analysis, the tests for cations, anions and gases, is pure recall and the cheapest set of marks on the paper to secure.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Command terms matter more here than anywhere else in the sciences. Osmosis has to be explained in terms of water potential rather than described, transpiration and translocation are routinely confused, and genetic crosses need complete notation because the marks sit in the working rather than in the final ratio.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Sciences 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1

Single tier

Untiered, two written papers each, and no separate practical examination. Practical skills are examined inside the theory papers, so a method-evaluation question can appear without warning mid-paper. A tutor preparing an Edexcel candidate for a Paper 6 that does not exist on their specification is a real and common mismatch.

Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language 0510 and 0511

Core and Extended

Heavily structured and therefore heavily coachable. The summary and directed-writing tasks have formats that reward precision in register and length. Students who learn the formats gain faster than students who read more widely, which makes this a strong choice for short, focused blocks of work.

Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 and Business Studies 0450

Single tier

Marks live in structured evaluation: a point, an explanation, a consequence, a judgement. Content-rich answers with no judgement cap mid-band regardless of accuracy. Because the structure is a template, these subjects respond unusually well to a small number of late, disciplined sessions.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences 0654

Double award

All three sciences in two subjects' worth of teaching time, reported as a double award. The matching risk is specific: a tutor who is strong in one of the three and merely competent in the others. Ask directly which of biology, chemistry and physics they have taught to examination, and in which years.

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

Extended only

Taken alongside 0580 by students heading for Higher Level Diploma mathematics or A Level. Calculus and kinematics arrive here before anywhere else on their timetable. Content density is high, so this is the clearest case for starting early rather than booking a rescue block in the second term.

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science 0478

Single tier

Theory and problem-solving across two papers, with pseudocode and trace tables as recurring mark-earners. Students who can program fluently still lose marks because the paper wants pseudocode in the board's conventions rather than working code, which is a specific habit a specialist teaches directly.

Arabic and the mandatory UAE subjects

All Dubai private schools

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside IGCSE in every Dubai private school regardless of the licensed curriculum. For non-Arab students these occupy the timetable space that independent study would otherwise use, which is part of why Year 11 past-paper time is scarcer in Dubai than the syllabus assumes.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three honest ways to buy IGCSE help, including the one that is cheaper than us. All IB Gram lessons are one-to-one over live video.

Weekly one-to-one with a syllabus specialist

The standard arrangement and the one worth paying a specialist rate for. One subject, one session a week, taught against the specific syllabus code and tier, with past-paper work from the first session. The test of whether it is working is simple: within a month the student should be able to tell you what a question is asking before attempting it.

  • 60 or 90 minutes weekly in Gulf Standard Time
  • Matched on syllabus code, tier and practical paper
  • Past-paper questions marked against the real scheme every session
  • A short written note after each session naming the next specific weakness

Short verification trial before committing

A single free session used deliberately as a test rather than a lesson. Give the tutor a past-paper question and your child's last marked piece of work, and watch whether the diagnosis is specific. We encourage families to do this with us and with anybody else they are considering, because one honest hour tells you more than a month of reviews.

  • Costs nothing and commits nothing
  • Judged on whether the diagnosis names a topic or a vague weakness
  • Run on your child's own marked work rather than a generic assessment
  • Written note afterwards so you have something to compare against

Low-cost consolidation, honestly described

For a Year 9 or early Year 10 student who needs structure, company and someone to check homework, a budget tutor is a reasonable purchase and the published Dubai floor is low. We say so because recommending a specialist to every family would be dishonest. What a budget hour does not buy is a tier-specific diagnosis or mark-scheme wording for Paper 6.

  • Published Dubai budget rates run from AED 33 to 65 an hour at the floor
  • Suits routine, structure and homework supervision
  • Does not substitute for an Extended-tier diagnosis in Year 11
  • Still worth asking the permit question of, exactly as you would anybody else

Pre-series technique block

Four to eight sessions in the weeks before the June or November window, for students whose teaching is done and whose marks sit below their understanding. Timed papers, command terms, showing working, pacing. No new content, because at that point the gap between knowledge and score is wider than the gap in knowledge.

  • Starts from a marked mock paper rather than from the syllabus
  • Lost marks categorised as content, method, technique or timing
  • Two subjects at most, chosen by which marks sit nearest a boundary
  • Scheduled around the school's own study-leave calendar

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in TECOM

01

Is there anybody near TECOM who knows the syllabus? The honest answer

  • Barsha Heights has no large campus, so no local teacher population grew around one
  • Published budget rates in Dubai start at AED 33 to 65 an hour
  • Qualified online subject tutors are published at AED 150 to 300
  • Price indicates a band, not whether a specific syllabus has been taught

Probably not many, and the reason is structural rather than a comment on anybody. Barsha Heights has no large school campus inside it, so it does not have the teacher population that grows around a campus. The adults within a short drive who have taught Cambridge Chemistry 0620 Extended with Paper 6 through to examination are few, and the ones advertising locally are mostly offering general tutoring across several subjects and year groups, which is a different product.

That is not a reason to dismiss local tutors. It is a reason to verify rather than assume. A general tutor who supervises homework and keeps a Year 9 student on top of their work is genuinely useful and reasonably priced, with published Dubai budget rates starting at AED 33 to 65 an hour. The failure happens when a family buys that product in Year 11 for an Extended-tier science and expects a diagnosis, which it cannot deliver because the person has never marked the paper.

The published market gives you a rough map of who is who. Budget online and university-student tutoring runs roughly AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Qualified subject tutors online sit at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists across IB, IGCSE and A Level run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 for independent home tutors, travel included. Every figure there was published by somebody else and read in October 2026.

What the price does not tell you is whether the person has taught your child's code. That is why the next section is a list of questions rather than a sales argument. Ask them of us, ask them of the tutor on the building noticeboard, ask them of the centre on Sheikh Zayed Road. The answers sort the market faster than any review page, and they cost nothing.

02

Ten questions that separate a specialist from a generalist

Here is the test, with the answers a genuine specialist gives. It takes five minutes on a phone call and works on anybody, including us. Nothing in it requires you to know the subject; it only requires you to notice whether the answers are specific or general. A generalist is not lying when they answer vaguely, they simply do not have the information, and that is exactly what you are trying to find out.

The first three questions establish whether the person has looked at your child's situation at all. The syllabus code, the tier, and the practical paper. A specialist asks to see the timetable rather than guessing. The middle questions establish whether they know the paper structure, which is where a Cambridge-only tutor preparing an Edexcel candidate is exposed, because they will reach for Paper 6 on a specification that does not have one.

The last questions are about conduct rather than knowledge, and they matter just as much. Whether they hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit. Whether they will write any part of a coursework submission, which the correct answer declines. Whether they teach at your child's own school, because the permit carries a code of conduct barring service to students affiliated with the tutor's own school and ADEK's rules bar Abu Dhabi school staff from paid tutoring of their own students. And what happens if the match is wrong.

One note on how to use this. The point is not to catch anybody out; it is to buy the right product. If the answers come back general and the price is low and your child is in Year 9 needing routine, that may be exactly the right purchase. If the answers come back general and the price is at specialist level, that is a mismatch worth walking away from. The list simply makes the mismatch visible before the money moves.

Who is legally allowed to tutor privately in the UAE

This is the section nobody in this search publishes properly, and it is the one with legal substance. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits. It is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit for Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee, states a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

The eligible categories are specific and broader than most families assume. They include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. That last pair explains much of the local advertising around Knowledge Village and Dubai Internet City: a university student tutoring with a permit is operating entirely legitimately, and is a reasonable purchase for the right job.

Two things must not be said, and you should be suspicious of anybody who says them. First, that a permit is optional. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. Second, any specific fine amount. Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, and a figure circulating online could not be verified, so no number should be quoted to you by anybody, including us.

There is a separate regime for operations with premises. A tutoring business with staff and a location in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. That is a specific instrument issued to specific institutions. IB Gram does not hold it, does not operate premises in the UAE, and does not describe itself as KHDA approved. Any provider using that phrase should be asked to produce the permit number.

The red flags in this market, with what they actually indicate

  • A star rating with no clickable, dated individual reviews behind it
  • A price range in structured data that contradicts the visible page
  • Rates quoted in US dollars to UAE families, or no rate published at all
  • A non-UAE phone number as the only contact route on a UAE page
  • A stated Dubai address on a page about a different emirate
  • Any offer to write, complete or supply an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay

Research for this project fetched and read more than sixty competitor pages in this market, and the same handful of problems recurred. Publishing them is more useful than claiming to be different, because a parent who recognises the patterns can evaluate anybody, including whoever ranks above this page next month.

Self-asserted star ratings are the most common. One competitor publishes an AggregateRating of 4.9 in its structured data with nothing countable behind it. Another shows 4.92 out of 5 from 480 reviews and 4.93 from 850 reviews on the same page, which cannot both be true. A third shows 5.0 from 20 reviews alongside a claim of serving 2,500 students. Fabricated review markup breaches Google's structured-data policy and, as a commercial representation in the UAE, is a consumer-protection exposure. A rating you cannot click through to individual dated reviews tells you nothing.

Price opacity is the second. Three of six researched pages publish no price at all, and one page's own FAQ asks what tutoring costs and then declines to answer it. Two quote in US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in. A separate page's structured-data price range contradicts the figure in its visible text. If a provider will not state a rate, a session length and a VAT position in writing, that is information about how the eventual invoice will be constructed.

The third is the serious one. One page found during this research sells completed Internal Assessments outright, at a published price. That is not tutoring. It is an academic-integrity breach that triggers malpractice proceedings against the student, not the seller, and a family who buys it is buying a risk to their child's qualification. Any provider willing to produce assessed work is also willing to misrepresent other things. Treat the offer itself as the disqualifying signal.

05

Why IGCSE tutor is not a job description

The phrase covers at least a dozen different jobs, and matching the wrong one is the most common waste of money in this market. A Year 10 student on Cambridge 0580 Core who needs confidence and routine, and a Year 11 student on Pearson 4CH1 who needs titration arithmetic and method-evaluation questions eight weeks before a paper, are both asking for an IGCSE tutor. Almost nothing about the right person is the same.

The variables are few enough to list and specific enough to match on. The board, because Cambridge and Pearson tier differently and assess practical work differently. The tier, because it caps the grade and determines the paper set. The practical route, Paper 5 or Paper 6 or examined-within-the-written-papers. The year group, because Year 10 is a content job and Year 11 term three is an execution job. And the component the marks are being lost in, which a marked paper reveals and a conversation usually does not.

The table below is the version of this a parent can use. Find the row that matches your child and you have a specification for the person you need, which you can then test against the ten questions in the earlier section. It also shows why one tutor covering three sciences at Extended tier is usually a compromise rather than a convenience: the rows are genuinely different jobs, and a person who is excellent at one is often merely adequate at the next.

This is also the honest basis for us to say when we are not the right purchase. A family needing light weekly homework supervision for a Year 9 student is better served by a budget tutor at the published floor than by a specialist rate, and we will say so. A family eight weeks from a series wanting five subjects covered is going to get a recommendation for two. Matching correctly sometimes means a smaller sale, and a provider who never says that is not matching anything.

What the local pool and the wider pool each actually offer

Set the two side by side honestly. A nearby in-person tutor gives you presence in the room, a face your child sees weekly, and no technology to go wrong. Those are genuine goods and for some students they are decisive. The published Dubai in-home band is AED 180 to 350 an hour from Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 for independent home tutors, with travel inside the price, and monthly in-home packages seen at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits.

A wider online pool gives you specification match, scheduling that flexes, and a selection that is not limited by who will drive to Barsha Heights at half past five. Published rates for qualified online subject tutors are AED 150 to 300, with monthly online packages seen at AED 799 for eight sessions. The gap between the two columns is not a quality gap; it is a travel cost, and what matters is whether travel is what your particular student needs to buy.

For Barsha Heights specifically, three local factors push the answer one way. The community has no campus of its own, so the nearby teacher population is thin. Children already commute outward daily, so the week has no appetite for another journey. And the roads out, towards Al Barsha across the interchange and towards Sheikh Zayed Road, are at their worst in exactly the window a session would run. A tutor driving in at 17:30 arrives with a variable twenty minutes attached.

The table sets out the comparison with the verification question attached to each option, because that is the part a parent can act on. Whichever column you choose, the ten questions from earlier still apply. The worst outcome in this market is not choosing the wrong format; it is paying a specialist rate for a generalist in either format, which happens because the advertising for both looks the same.

Coursework, past papers and the boundaries we keep

A verification page has to cover this, because the willingness to cross the line is itself a verification signal. A tutor may teach content, explain a mark scheme, model how a question type is answered, mark the student's own work and give feedback on it, and coach planning and revision. That is teaching, and a reasonable test is whether your child's own teacher could do the same thing openly.

A tutor may not produce assessed work on a student's behalf, dictate answers for transcription, or edit a submission until the words are no longer the student's. For IGCSE science, where an internally assessed practical component or investigation contributes, the work must be the candidate's own and the school signs a declaration to that effect. A provider offering to help with coursework in unspecified ways has usually chosen those words carefully, and the right response is to ask exactly what help means.

Past papers carry a copyright dimension that the market routinely ignores. Cambridge, Pearson and the International Baccalaureate own their syllabus documents, question papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables. We reference them, cite the official source and link out to cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com rather than hosting copies, and we do not distribute them as downloads. A service offering your child a downloadable library has a copyright problem of its own, and the official material is reachable through the school anyway.

The accreditation question belongs here too. IB Gram is not approved, accredited, certified or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge or Pearson, and claims none of those relationships. We explain what each body does because understanding the framework helps you evaluate providers. Anybody using the phrase KHDA-approved tutors should be asked to produce the permit, because the permit it refers to is a specific instrument issued to institutions with premises.

Booking, and the limits we will tell you about first

  • Send the board, the codes, the tier and a marked piece of work if you have one
  • Free trial as a timed past-paper section, with a written mark-loss note after it
  • Use that note to compare us against other providers; that is what it is for
  • 17:30 and 18:00 slots in the second term are the scarcest of the year
  • Coverage limits named with a date before booking, not discovered afterwards

Send the board, the syllabus codes, the year group and the tier if you know it. If you have a marked piece of work, send that instead of a description, because it answers in two minutes what a conversation takes twenty to establish. We match a tutor who has taught that code at that tier, and the first session is free and runs as a timed past-paper section rather than an introduction.

You then get a short written note: which marks went to content, which to method, which to technique and which to timing, and a realistic number of sessions for the window you have. Use that note to compare us against anybody else you are considering, which is what it is for. If the honest recommendation is fewer sessions in fewer subjects, the note will say so, and if a budget tutor is the right purchase for your situation it will say that too.

Three limits are worth stating before you book. First, availability concentrates: requests for a 17:30 weekday slot in the second term, which is exactly what Barsha Heights bus schedules produce, are the hardest to staff in the year. Second, some combinations are thin, particularly Edexcel science specialists for specific weekend hours. Third, if no UAE-based tutor is free for your combination, we will tell you whether a tutor based elsewhere can cover your hour in Gulf Standard Time, and you may decline. No competitor researched for this project discloses a coverage limit at all.

On format, once more and plainly: IB Gram runs no home visits in Dubai and no office, centre or branch in the UAE. Home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, with the past paper and the mark scheme shared between tutor and student. Sessions for Barsha Heights families generally start at 17:30 or 18:00 because bus routes rather than bells decide when a child is home, and during Ramadan they move to post-Iftar slots for families who want them there.

Where we tutor

TECOM, Barsha Heights and the corridor around it

Barsha Heights children travel outward for school, so the relevant map is the bus route rather than the walking radius. These are the communities in the same corridor and what they mean for a session time.

Barsha Heights (TECOM)

Towers and offices with no large school campus inside them. Secondary students are bussed out in several directions, which makes bus return time rather than a school bell the thing that sets the earliest workable slot, usually 17:30.

Dubai Internet City and Media City

Immediately west, largely commercial with some residential towers. Families here face the same outward commute and the same scarcity of local subject specialists at IGCSE level.

Al Barsha 1 and 2

Directly south across the interchange, where several of the campuses TECOM children attend actually sit. The traffic between the two at pickup is the reason a nearby in-person tutor is less convenient than the map suggests.

Al Sufouh and Knowledge Village

North towards the coast, holding large campuses and the university corridor. A deep pool of university students, which is where much of the local budget tutoring advertising originates.

The Greens and The Views

Across Sheikh Zayed Road, compact apartment communities with a significant secondary population. Walkable internally and gridlocked on the way out at 17:00.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Further along the coast, dense and tower-based, with a large IGCSE cohort travelling to schools inland. The same verification problem applies: plenty of advertising, little that can be checked.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

Opposite the Marina across the highway. Families here routinely compare a nearby freelance tutor against an online specialist and find that the only real difference is whether the syllabus is known.

Al Barsha South

Inland, across Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, with several large British-curriculum campuses. A frequent destination for TECOM school buses and a frequent source of mid-term school transfers.

Emirates Hills and The Meadows

Villa communities inland, served by campuses on both boards. Longer drives in every direction, which pushes almost every family here towards online scheduling in term time.

Al Quoz

Mixed residential and light industrial, immediately south-east. Heavy cross-traffic at exactly the hour a tutoring session would start, in both directions.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in TECOM

Where Barsha Heights children actually go to school

Because the community has no large campus of its own, its students are distributed across campuses in Al Barsha, Al Barsha South and Al Sufouh. The practical consequence for a family is that your child's board and syllabus codes depend on which bus they get on, not on which neighbourhood you live in, so the verification question has to start with the timetable.

  • Dubai National School Al Barsha
  • Al Mawakeb School Al Barsha
  • American School of Dubai
  • GEMS Dubai American Academy
  • Repton Al Barsha

Al Sufouh, The Greens and the coastal corridor

The northern destinations, holding several of the larger campuses in this part of Dubai and the university district that supplies much of the area's budget tutoring. A university student tutor can be a perfectly good choice for Year 9 consolidation and a poor one for an Extended-tier diagnosis, and the advertising does not distinguish.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai College
  • Regent International School
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Jumeirah College

Al Barsha South and the inland campuses

The southern destinations, running both Cambridge and Pearson, sometimes within the same school across different subjects. That mix is exactly why a single question about the syllabus code tells a parent more than a page of tutor biography, and it is the question almost nobody asks first.

  • Safa Community School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Sunmarke School

Schools are named to describe where Barsha Heights students travel and which boards those campuses run. IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or commercial relationship with any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Start from the timetable, not the subject

The board, the syllabus code and the tier are printed on your child's school documents and take thirty seconds to find. They determine which papers are sat and therefore what is worth teaching. A request that includes them is matched in one step; a request that says IGCSE science takes two sessions to narrow down and you pay for those.

  2. 02

Run the verification questions on us

Ask which code, which tier, which practical paper, what the practical component is worth, and how the first session will diagnose. We would rather be tested than trusted, and the same questions work on every other provider you are considering. A vague answer from anybody, including us, is the information you were looking for.

  3. 03

Matched on code, tier and practical route

Cambridge 0620 Extended with Paper 6 and Pearson 4CH1 are different teaching jobs, and preparing an Edexcel candidate for a Paper 6 that does not exist on their specification is a real and common mismatch. We match on all three variables rather than on the subject name.

  4. 04

Free session used as a diagnostic

Timed past-paper section, marked honestly, with a written note afterwards naming where the marks went and how many sessions the remaining window realistically needs. You read it before committing anything, and you can take it to another provider for comparison without any awkwardness from us.

  5. 05

Hours put where the marks are

The plan ranks work by marks at stake on a real paper rather than by syllabus order, which is why chemistry recall sheets often come before organic chemistry and showing working comes before new content. You see the order before we begin, and you can change it.

  6. 06

Reviewed on marks, replaced on request

Every fourth session includes a timed section measured against earlier attempts at the same question types. If the marks have not moved where we worked, the approach was wrong and we change it rather than adding hours. If the tutor is the wrong fit, say so after the second session and we change the tutor without an argument.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The verification questions published, answers included

Ten questions that separate a syllabus specialist from a general tutor, with the specialist answers printed alongside so you can use them on anybody. Publishing the test rather than asserting we pass it is the only honest way to answer a search that is really asking whether anyone nearby knows the syllabus.

The permit regime explained by category

The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is free of charge for two years and covers teachers, employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. We set out who needs what and how to check, and we publish no fine figure because none is officially published.

No accreditation claimed, anywhere

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, Ministry, International Baccalaureate, Cambridge or Pearson approval and claims none. The KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific instrument issued to training institutes with premises, and any provider using the phrase KHDA-approved should be asked to produce its number.

Market rates attributed, dated and in AED

Every figure on this page is credited to the provider or rate table that published it and dated to October 2026, in the currency UAE families actually transact in. Three of six researched competitor pages publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars. None of these figures is our price list.

We will name the cheaper option when it is the right one

A Year 9 student who needs routine is better served by a budget tutor at the published Dubai floor than by a specialist rate, and a family eight weeks from a series asking for five subjects will get a recommendation for two. Matching honestly sometimes means a smaller sale than the one the enquiry came for.

Coverage limits disclosed before you commit

Second-term 17:30 slots are the scarcest hours of the year, and Edexcel science specialists for specific weekend times can take longer to staff. We give you a date rather than taking a booking and hoping, and we say when a tutor is based outside the UAE so you can decline.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in TECOM: your questions answered

Is there actually an IGCSE specialist living near TECOM?+

Fewer than you would expect, and the reason is structural. Barsha Heights has no large school campus inside it, so the teacher population that usually grows around a campus is not there. Most secondary students in the community are bussed outward, and the local tutoring advertising comes largely from freelancers and from the university pool near Knowledge Village and Dubai Internet City. That can be a good purchase for routine and homework supervision. What it rarely provides is somebody who has marked Cambridge Chemistry 0620 Extended Paper 6 and can diagnose from it.

How can I tell whether a tutor really knows my child's syllabus?+

Ask five short questions. Which syllabus code is my child entered for. Which tier. Do they sit Paper 5 or Paper 6. What is the practical component worth. And how will you diagnose in the first session. A specialist asks to see the timetable and then answers precisely: 0620, Extended, Paper 6, a fifth of the grade, a timed past-paper section marked honestly. A generalist answers in general terms, which is not dishonesty but is exactly the information you were trying to obtain before paying a specialist rate.

Do private tutors in Dubai actually need a permit?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is officially published, so be suspicious of anybody quoting an amount. Applications go through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Can a university student in Dubai Internet City legally tutor my child?+

Yes, provided they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, because university students are explicitly listed among the eligible categories under the 2023 resolution. Whether they are the right tutor is a separate question from whether they are a legal one. For a Year 9 student needing structure and homework supervision, a permitted university student at the published Dubai budget rate of roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour can be an entirely sensible purchase. For an Extended-tier diagnosis in Year 11, it usually is not.

What does a KHDA permit actually cover, and does IB Gram hold one?+

The KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute is issued to tutoring operations with premises and staff in Dubai. It involves initial approval, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram does not hold it, operates no premises, office, centre or branch in the UAE, and does not describe itself as KHDA approved. If any provider uses the phrase KHDA-approved tutors, ask them to produce the permit number, because it refers to a specific institutional instrument.

Should I hire a teacher from my child's own school privately?+

Be careful. The MoHRE private tuition permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and in Abu Dhabi ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school. Treat the detail as press-reported and check the current policy document, but the direction is clear. There is also a practical reason to look elsewhere: an independent specialist gives you a genuinely independent read on where the marks are going.

Why do some tutoring sites show star ratings I cannot verify?+

Because self-asserted review markup is easy to publish and rarely checked. Research for this project found one competitor publishing a 4.9 rating in structured data with nothing countable behind it, another showing 4.92 from 480 reviews and 4.93 from 850 reviews on the same page, and a third showing 5.0 from 20 reviews next to a claim of 2,500 students. Fabricated ratings breach Google's structured-data policy and are a consumer-protection exposure in the UAE. A rating with no clickable, dated individual reviews behind it tells you nothing.

Why will some providers not tell me their hourly rate?+

It varies, but the pattern is worth noticing. Three of six researched pages in this market publish no price at all, and one page's own frequently asked questions ask what tutoring costs and then decline to answer. Two quote in US dollars rather than dirhams, which UAE families do not transact in, and one publishes a structured-data price range that contradicts its visible text. Ask for a rate, a session length and a VAT position in writing. A provider unwilling to supply all three has told you how the invoice will eventually be built.

What is the difference between Cambridge and Pearson for my child?+

Enough to change who you should hire. Cambridge single sciences are tiered Core or Extended and carry a separate practical component, either Paper 5 as a laboratory test or Paper 6 as the alternative to practical. Pearson International GCSE sciences are untiered with no separate practical examination, and practical skills are examined inside the written papers. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 is Core or Extended while Pearson 4MA1 is Foundation or Higher. A tutor preparing an Edexcel candidate for a Paper 6 that their specification does not contain is a common and expensive mismatch.

Is a cheap tutor ever the right choice?+

Often, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. For a Year 9 or early Year 10 student who needs routine, company and somebody to check that homework has been done, published Dubai budget rates start at roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour and the purchase is sound. What a budget hour cannot deliver is a tier-specific diagnosis, mark-scheme wording for an alternative-to-practical paper, or a plan built from a marked script. Buying the cheap product in Year 11 for an Extended-tier science is where families lose money, not in buying it at all.

What time do sessions run for families in Barsha Heights?+

Later than in the villa communities nearby, because bus routes rather than school bells decide when a child is home. A 17:30 start is normal for Barsha Heights and 18:00 is often better, particularly for a second sibling. Those happen to be the scarcest slots in the year during the second term, so booking them early matters. During Ramadan, sessions move to post-Iftar slots for families who want them there, with the same tutor keeping the same student rather than a reshuffle.

Will IB Gram send a tutor to our apartment in TECOM?+

No. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and we state that plainly rather than letting a family discover it after a call. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, with the past paper and the mark scheme shared on screen. For Barsha Heights the trade is unusually clean: your child already commutes outward for school every day, the roads out are at their worst at exactly the hour a session runs, and what the online format buys is the specialist the postcode does not contain.

What should I do if a provider offers to help with coursework?+

Ask precisely what help means, in writing. Legitimate help is teaching the assessment criteria, explaining what a top band contains, marking the student's own draft and asking the questions that expose a weak section. Illegitimate help is writing, drafting or editing a submission until the words are no longer the student's. Research for this project found a page selling completed Internal Assessments outright at a published price. That is an academic-integrity breach whose consequences fall on the student, and the offer itself should end the conversation.

Can you supply past papers and mark schemes for us to download?+

No, and nobody legitimately can. Cambridge, Pearson and the International Baccalaureate own their syllabus documents, question papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables, and distributing copies is copyright infringement. We reference them, cite the official source and link out to cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com, and we work from them inside a session. Your child's school can reach the official material directly, which is the right route. A provider advertising a downloadable library has a copyright problem of its own.

What happens if you cannot find a tutor for our subject and slot?+

We tell you, with a date, rather than taking the booking and hoping. Demand concentrates in the second term and in the weeks before a series, and the 17:30 and 18:00 slots that Barsha Heights bus schedules produce are the scarcest hours of the year. Some combinations are thin, particularly Edexcel science specialists for a specific weekend time. If no UAE-based tutor is free for your combination, we will say whether a tutor based elsewhere can cover your hour in Gulf Standard Time, and you are free to decline.

Test whoever you hire, including us

The question underneath this search is whether anybody within reach actually knows your child's syllabus, and the way to settle it is not to read more profiles. Ask which code, which tier, which practical paper, what that component is worth, and how the first session will diagnose. Then ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition permit and whether they will write any part of a coursework submission. Five minutes, and the market sorts itself. Send us the board, the codes and a marked piece of work, and the free trial will be run as a timed past-paper section with a written note afterwards that you are welcome to take elsewhere for comparison. Lessons are one-to-one online, in Gulf Standard Time.
