IB Tutor near me in TECOM

Parents in the TECOM towers search for an IB tutor near me because the afternoon is already spoken for. School ends around half past two, the Al Barsha bus reaches Barsha Heights between three and four, and both parents are often still at a desk in Internet City or Media City. This page is written around that timetable. It names the schools TECOM children actually attend, works out the hour a one-to-one lesson can realistically start, and explains how IB Gram covers it: live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Lessons run live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time

IB & IGCSE in TECOM

Half past two to half past seven: the only window a TECOM household has

A proximity search assumes the problem is distance. In Barsha Heights it almost never is. The towers sit between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, with Al Barsha 1 on one side and Dubai Internet City on the other, so most of the schools TECOM children attend are a ten-minute drive away in light traffic. The real constraint is the clock. A Dubai school day ends somewhere between 14:00 and 15:15 depending on the year group, the bus takes a loop through Al Barsha and Hessa Street before it reaches the towers, and by the time a child has eaten something it is gone four.

That leaves roughly three usable hours, and they are not interchangeable. The hour straight after the bus is the one a tired fifteen-year-old spends badly. The hour after dinner is the one a working parent can actually be in the flat for. Somewhere between those two sits the slot where a Higher Level Chemistry problem set gets done properly rather than survived. Picking the right one matters more to the outcome than whether the tutor lives two streets away or two time zones away.

The second constraint is housing stock. Barsha Heights is almost entirely apartments. There is no spare study with a door that shuts, so a lesson happens at the dining table with a younger sibling nearby and a lift lobby audible through the wall. That is a practical argument for a headset and a shared screen rather than a visitor in the living room, and it is the argument we make here. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Every UAE lesson is delivered over live video, one to one.

The third is subject coverage. A TECOM child at Dubai International Academy Al Barsha might be taking Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, Physics HL and Economics SL. The pool of people within a twenty-minute drive who have taught all three to Diploma standard is small, and the pool who have taught the specific one your child is losing marks in is smaller still. Online delivery replaces that pool with a national one, which is the only honest reason to prefer it.

So this page answers the search literally. It sets out which schools the TECOM towers feed and when each day ends, maps the afternoon hour by hour, costs a month of tutoring at the rates Dubai providers actually publish, and states plainly what happens in the weeks when nobody suitable is free. The aim is that you finish it knowing which evening to book, which exam series your child is actually entered for, and what to ask on the trial lesson.

At a glance

  • TECOM, officially Barsha Heights since 2016, is apartment stock between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road
  • Most TECOM children bus to schools in Al Barsha, Al Barsha South and Al Sufouh
  • Dubai school days end between 14:00 and 15:15; the bus reaches the towers 15:00-16:00
  • Dubai had 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools in 2024-25, with 7% on IB programmes
  • Dubai private schools are overseen by KHDA; Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside the IB
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A TECOM household usually meets the IB in one of three forms, depending on which Al Barsha school the bus goes to: a primary programme, the Middle Years Programme in the lower secondary years, or the Diploma in the final two. The tutoring question is different in each, so they are separated here rather than lumped into one offer.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP has no external examinations and no published grades, which is why parents of younger TECOM children often cannot tell whether a wobble is real. Assessment is through the exhibition in the final year and through teacher judgement against transdisciplinary themes. Tutoring at this stage is almost entirely about arithmetic fluency, reading stamina and writing at length, because those are the three things that decide how the Middle Years Programme goes.

Dubai International Academy Al Barsha runs the full IB continuum from PYP upward, so a TECOM child can be in an IB classroom from primary. Note that KHDA mandates Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils, so the primary timetable already carries subjects the PYP framework does not describe.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP marks against criteria A to D in each subject on a 1-8 scale, with no papers to practise and no past papers to work through. Reports read as four letters per subject, and a parent cannot easily convert them into a worry. The common pattern is a child who is comfortable in MYP Mathematics and then meets the Diploma and discovers that criterion-based work rewarded different habits from the ones Paper 1 rewards.

Nord Anglia International School Dubai in Al Barsha South and GEMS Wellington International School in Al Sufouh both take TECOM pupils into lower secondary before an IGCSE or MYP split, so neighbours in the same tower can be on different tracks at the same age. That matters for tutoring: a Year 10 criterion C task and a Year 10 IGCSE past paper need different preparation.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an internally assessed component worth roughly a fifth to a quarter of the grade, marked by the school against IB criteria and then externally moderated. Dubai students sit the May session. The Diploma is where tutoring demand concentrates, because the two-year calendar stacks coursework deadlines against mock examinations in the same weeks.

For a TECOM family the Diploma complicates the afternoon rather than the week. Internal deadlines are set by the school, not the IB, so two children in the same tower at different Al Barsha schools will have their Chemistry internal assessment due a month apart. Any tutoring plan has to be built from your own school's published deadline sheet, not from a generic calendar.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects TECOM families most often ask about, with what each actually assesses and where the marks go missing. The level matters more than the subject name: an SL request and an HL request in the same subject are different pieces of work and need a different tutor.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency carries this course. Marks go missing in Paper 1, the no-calculator paper, where a student who can set up a problem on a graphing calculator cannot differentiate by hand under time. HL adds proof by induction, complex numbers and vectors at a depth SL never reaches.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Technology is assumed throughout, so the failure mode is different: students lose marks on interpretation and on choosing the right statistical test rather than on manipulation. HL adds matrices, graph theory and more demanding modelling. Some engineering courses prefer Analysis and Approaches, which is worth checking before the choice is locked.

Physics

HL and SL

The mechanics unit decides the grade for most students because everything later borrows from it. HL adds fields, induction and quantum physics. The multiple-choice paper punishes unit slips and the extended-response paper punishes answers that describe when the command term asked the student to explain.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics and organic mechanisms are where TECOM students most often stall. The course rewards students who can draw a mechanism with curly arrows in the right places and lose nothing on significant figures. HL extends into entropy, equilibrium calculations and more organic synthesis routes.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume is the problem rather than difficulty. Students who revise by rereading retain little; those who answer past questions against the command terms do better. Data-based questions on unfamiliar experiments separate the top grades, and they are practisable in a way content revision is not.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation are the two things examiners reward and most students under-practise. The internally assessed commentaries ask for real published articles analysed against syllabus theory, and a weak article choice caps the mark before any writing happens.

Business Management

HL and SL

Popular in TECOM households where parents work in the free zone and the subject feels familiar. The examination rewards applied answers tied to the case study rather than definitions. HL adds extension topics and a longer research project that needs a real organisation and real constraints.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the paper on unseen non-literary texts are the components students handle worst, because both ask for a line of argument rather than coverage. Progress comes from timed writing with feedback, not from reading more secondary criticism.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all Diploma students

An essay on a prescribed title plus an exhibition of three objects. Together with the Extended Essay it contributes up to three points to the Diploma total. Students lose marks by writing opinion pieces rather than examining knowledge claims against the prescribed title.

Extended Essay

Core, all Diploma students

A 4,000-word independent piece in a chosen subject, supervised by a school teacher. A tutor may teach research method, discuss structure and give feedback on the student's own draft; a tutor may not write any part of it. The research question, narrow and answerable, decides most of the mark.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a TECOM family usually starts, each tied to a different point in the term. All three are delivered live online, one to one, in Gulf Standard Time, and all three begin with a trial lesson that happens before any payment.

The weekly evening hour

One subject, one level, the same slot every week, booked at 19:00 or 19:30 so a working parent is in the flat when it happens. This is what most TECOM households settle into after the first month, because the afternoon slots keep collapsing into traffic, football and a late bus.

  • Same tutor, same weekday, booked for the term
  • Fits after the Internet City commute rather than during it
  • Works best for one Higher Level subject, not three

A bounded block before mocks

Six to eight sessions aimed at one examination paper, timed to the weeks before your school's mock window rather than to the IB session. Mock dates come from the school's own calendar, so this block is scheduled from your deadline sheet, and it ends when the mock does.

  • Built from a marked past paper, not from the syllabus front to back
  • Scheduled around the school's mock dates, not a generic calendar
  • Ends on a fixed date with no rolling commitment

Coursework process coaching

Sessions on the internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay that teach method and give feedback on work the student has already written. The tutor does not write, redraft to completion or supply any part of the text; that would be malpractice under IB rules and would put the student's Diploma at risk.

  • Research question, method and structure taught explicitly
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, in the student's own words
  • No text supplied, no editing to completion, no exceptions

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in TECOM

01

A TECOM afternoon, hour by hour, and where the lesson actually goes

  • 14:00-15:15: school ends, varying by campus and year group
  • 15:15-16:00: bus arrives in Barsha Heights after the Al Barsha loop
  • 16:00-17:00: consolidation work only, and only if the child has eaten
  • 19:00-20:30: the slot that survives contact with a working week

Start with the clock rather than the tutor. Dubai private schools finish between 14:00 and 15:15 depending on year group and campus. A bus leaving an Al Barsha campus at 14:40 does not arrive in Barsha Heights at 14:50, because it loops through Al Barsha 1 and Hessa Street first and the junctions around First Al Khail Street are at their worst in exactly that half hour. For most TECOM households the child is through the door between 15:15 and 16:00.

What follows is the part that decides whether tutoring works. Between 16:00 and 17:00 a Diploma student is capable of consolidation work: going over a marked paper, finishing a problem set, being walked through a mechanism they half understand. They are usually not capable of learning a new topic cold. Between 17:00 and 18:30 the household is at its busiest, with activities, siblings and the end of a working day arriving at once, and a booked lesson in that window is the one most often cancelled.

After 19:00 the flat settles. A parent is home, the younger child is occupied, and an hour runs to the end without interruption. This is why the table below exists: it is the schedule we actually plan against for TECOM, and it is worth more to a family than another paragraph about teaching philosophy. If your bus arrives earlier than most, say so on the trial call and the slot moves. The one thing worth checking before you pick a time is how long your own child takes to be genuinely ready to work after walking in, because that number differs by half an hour between siblings in the same flat.

The schools the TECOM towers feed, and what each one ends with

A parent searching for a tutor near TECOM is usually really asking whether anyone understands their child's school. That is a fair question, because the campuses within a short drive of Barsha Heights do not all do the same thing at sixteen. One runs the IB continuum from primary. One is American and ends in Advanced Placement. Several are British and run IGCSE before splitting into A Level or the Diploma. A tutor who knows the IB inside out is the wrong hire for a child sitting Cambridge papers in November.

The practical consequence is that the first question on a trial call should be the campus and the examination, not the year group. Two TECOM thirteen-year-olds can be in MYP criterion-marked lessons and in Key Stage 3 lessons preparing for IGCSE, and both will be described at home as being in Year 9. The work, the marking language and the thing a tutor should be rehearsing are different in each case, and getting that wrong costs a term before anybody notices it has been wasted.

The table below maps the destinations a TECOM bus actually serves to what a child there will be assessed on. Ratings are deliberately absent. KHDA publishes an inspection band for every Dubai private school on a six-point scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, and the only trustworthy place to read a school's current band is KHDA's own site, not a tutoring page that may be a year out of date.

Six groups, three Higher Levels, and the one the school run breaks

  • Higher Level Mathematics and Physics degrade fastest after a missed fortnight
  • Language and humanities Higher Levels tolerate an interrupted week better
  • Three Higher Levels rarely fit one tutor's genuine specialism
  • Core components need their own time, not the leftovers of a subject hour

The Diploma asks for six subjects across six groups, three of them at Higher Level, plus the three core elements. On paper that is a workload problem. In a TECOM flat it is a scheduling problem, because the three Higher Levels are not equally damaged by a bad week. A Higher Level language course survives a missed evening; Higher Level Mathematics does not, because each topic stands on the previous one and a fortnight of thin practice shows up two months later in Paper 1.

This is where the afternoon timetable and the subject choice collide. If your child's hardest Higher Level is Mathematics or Physics, the weekly tutoring hour belongs in the 19:00 slot where concentration is available, not in the 16:00 slot where it is cheapest to arrange. Families who get this wrong usually conclude that tutoring does not work for their child, when what failed was the hour.

The second thing worth saying plainly: one tutor for three Higher Levels is a compromise, not a convenience. A person who has taught Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL to Diploma standard is unlikely to also have examined Chemistry HL mechanisms and marked an Economics commentary. Online delivery is what makes separating them affordable in time, because there is no second journey to pay for. If a provider offers one tutor for everything, ask which of the three they have actually taught at Higher Level in the last two years.

04

Why the 16:00 lesson and the 19:30 lesson are not the same product

  • 16:00: consolidation, marked work, short drills
  • 19:30: new teaching, derivations, coursework method
  • Weekend mornings: the only realistic two-hour block
  • Continuity with one tutor beats a convenient slot shared between three

Treat the two slots as two different services, because they achieve different things. The 16:00 hour is best spent on work that already exists: a returned paper with marks lost, a problem set half finished, a mechanism the teacher went through too fast. The student is not being asked to build anything new, so the fatigue that follows a school day and a bus is survivable. Parents like it because the evening stays free.

The 19:30 hour is for the work that needs a clear head. New Higher Level content, a derivation, planning an internal assessment, writing a Theory of Knowledge paragraph against a prescribed title. These are tasks where fifteen minutes of poor attention wastes the whole hour, and they are the tasks that move a grade. A household where both parents commute back from Internet City or Media City can usually guarantee this slot in a way it cannot guarantee a 16:00 one.

There is a cost dimension to this too, and it runs the opposite way to what families expect. Early-evening slots are the ones every family in Dubai wants, so across the market they are the first to go and the last to be discounted. A 19:30 or weekend-morning slot is easier to hold with the same tutor for a whole term, and continuity with one tutor is worth more than the convenience of a slot that keeps moving between three people. If you can hold only one fixed hour a week for the whole year, hold the later one.

05

The Diploma core, and the deadlines your school sets rather than the IB

  • Internal deadlines come from the school, not from the IB
  • Ask the Diploma coordinator for the cohort deadline sheet in Year 12
  • Work backwards in four stages from each deadline
  • A tutor teaches method and gives feedback; a tutor never supplies text

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and the internal assessments are where a TECOM term quietly goes wrong, because none of their deadlines come from the examination board. The school sets them. That means the Chemistry internal assessment at one Al Barsha campus can be due in the same week as the Extended Essay first draft at another, and a family comparing notes in the lift lobby will get contradictory advice about when to worry.

The only reliable planning document is your own school's published deadline sheet for the cohort. Ask the Diploma coordinator for it at the start of Year 12 and work backwards from each date in four stages: topic chosen, data or sources gathered, first full draft written, draft revised after supervisor feedback. Each of those stages is a place a tutor can teach something concrete. None of them is a place a tutor may contribute text.

That boundary is worth stating in full, because two providers in this market cross it. Under IB academic-honesty rules the internal assessment, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge essay must be the student's own work. A tutor may teach research method, explain the assessment criteria, discuss whether a research question is answerable and give feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not write a section, rewrite a paragraph into its final form, or supply a dataset. We will not do any of those things, and a provider that offers to is putting your child's Diploma at risk rather than helping.

06

Ramadan, exam terms and the weeks the TECOM timetable moves

  • Agree a Ramadan slot before Ramadan, not during it
  • Mock weeks are for marked papers, not new content
  • A reduced fortnightly hour through the summer beats a catch-up block
  • Travel between time zones is survivable online in a way a visit is not

Three things reliably disturb a tutoring schedule in Dubai, and all three are predictable. During Ramadan, school hours shorten and the household rhythm inverts: the usable study window moves to the late morning on non-school days and to after Iftar on school days. A tutoring slot booked for 19:30 in January is the wrong slot in Ramadan, and the sensible move is to agree the alternative in advance rather than cancel four weeks in a row.

The second is the mock season. Most Dubai schools run Diploma mocks in the winter and again before the May session, and in those weeks a student's own school timetable fills with papers. Adding a new topic in that fortnight is counterproductive. The right use of the hour is going through a mock paper that has been marked, which is also the only time a tutor can see, rather than infer, where the marks are going.

The third is travel. TECOM is a professional community and families leave Dubai in the summer and at mid-term. A pattern we see often is a six-week gap followed by a request to catch up in two sessions. That does not work, and it is worth saying so. The better plan is to hold a reduced schedule through the break, one hour a fortnight, which preserves the thread for far less money than the recovery block would cost. Agree that reduced pattern before the holiday starts, because a slot given up in June is rarely the same slot available in September.

07

What a month of IB tutoring costs around TECOM, counted monthly

Most providers quote by the hour, which is the least useful unit for a family deciding whether to commit. A household budgets by the month, so this section is organised that way. The figures below are market rates published by other providers in Dubai, each attributed, and reviewed in October 2026. They are not IB Gram's price list; our own model starts with a trial lesson before any payment and a consultation, and we would rather you compare the market honestly than take a number from us on trust.

Read the cheapest band first, because that is where most families start and where most of the disappointment sits. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts budget tutoring at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month for one weekly hour, and EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour. At that price the tutor is often a university student. For arithmetic practice in the Middle Years Programme that can be perfectly adequate. For Higher Level Physics in the second Diploma year it usually is not, and the lost term costs more than the saving.

The middle band, AED 600 to 1,200 a month for a weekly hour on Bestimate's figures, is where a qualified subject teacher sits; Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 an hour and IGCSE from AED 150. The specialist exam-year band runs AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 an hour. A tutor driving into the Barsha Heights towers is quoted across the market at AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, and advertised in-home packages run AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits. IB Gram does not sell those visits in the UAE at any price; the comparison is here so you can see what the travel premium buys, which is proximity rather than subject depth.

Starting from a TECOM tower, including the weeks we cannot help

  • Tell us the campus, level and the window your afternoon allows
  • Trial lesson first, payment after
  • Thin weeks are disclosed as a wait, not filled with a mismatch
  • Ask any tutor about the MoHRE private tuition work permit

The honest version of getting started is short. You tell us the campus, the year group, the subject and the level, and the window your afternoon actually allows. We propose a tutor who has taught that subject at that level and a slot inside your window. A trial lesson runs before any payment is taken. If the match is wrong, say so after the trial and it costs nothing; if it is right, the slot becomes a weekly booking you hold for the term.

What we will not do is claim permanent availability for everything. Some combinations are thin, particularly a single Higher Level science at short notice in the weeks either side of the mock season, and Theory of Knowledge supervision in the final term. When that happens you will be told the wait rather than handed whoever is free, because a mismatched specialist hour is the one purchase in this market that reliably wastes money. If the wait is unacceptable, we will say what else would help in the meantime.

One last practical note on the delivery question, since the search term that brought you here is a proximity search. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers categories including registered teachers, private-sector employees, unemployed residents and university students. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you. It is a fair question to ask any tutor, near or far.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around TECOM

TECOM sits inside a cluster of New Dubai communities whose children often share the same school buses and the same afternoon problem. Online delivery means the tutor pool is the same across all of them, but the timing is not, because the bus loop order differs.

Dubai Internet City

Immediately north-west of the TECOM towers and the nearest Red Line metro stop. Many TECOM parents work here, which is why a 17:00 handover is unrealistic and a 19:30 session is not.

Al Barsha 1 and Al Barsha South

Where most TECOM children actually go to school. The bus run between the Al Barsha campuses and Barsha Heights is short in distance and slow between 14:30 and 15:30.

Al Sufouh

Holds the older Dubai campuses on the coastal side. A TECOM pupil at an Al Sufouh school crosses Sheikh Zayed Road twice a day, which adds the most variable twenty minutes in the week.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Ten minutes down Sheikh Zayed Road and a different housing pattern: more tower-living families, similar school destinations, slightly later bus arrivals because the Marina loop runs last.

JLT

Across Sheikh Zayed Road from the Marina and the closest comparable apartment community. Families there ask the same syllabus questions, which is why we publish a separate page for them rather than repeating this one.

The Greens and The Views

Low-rise apartments between Al Barsha and the Marina, with shorter bus runs to the Al Barsha schools. A 16:00 start works here more often than it does in the TECOM towers.

The Springs, The Meadows and The Lakes

Villa communities inland of TECOM. More desk space and a quieter study corner, but a longer bus run, so the first workable session tends to be 16:30 rather than 16:00.

Emirates Hills

Large villas and the shortest route to the Emirates Hills campuses. Included here because TECOM parents often compare notes with colleagues living there and the timings are not transferable.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in TECOM

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

The main destination for TECOM school buses and the reason the 14:30 to 15:30 window is unusable. Curricula differ sharply between these campuses, so two children on the same bus can be preparing for an IB internal assessment and an IGCSE past paper on the same evening.

Al Sufouh and the coastal campuses

The second destination cluster, reached by crossing Sheikh Zayed Road. These are long-established Dubai schools with selective intakes and, in several cases, a sixth form that splits between A Level and the IB Diploma, which changes what a Year 11 TECOM student needs in the spring.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which campus and which paper

Not the year group. A TECOM Year 9 could be marked against MYP criteria or working towards IGCSE, and the two need different preparation. Naming the school and the examination gets you a tutor who has taught that specific thing rather than one who has taught the age.

Name the window, not the ideal

Tell us when your bus actually arrives and when a parent is home. If 16:00 is theoretical and 19:30 is real, book 19:30. Most tutoring that fails in Barsha Heights fails because the slot was chosen on a hopeful afternoon rather than a typical one.

  3. 03

Use the trial lesson as a diagnostic

Send a marked paper or a returned internal assessment draft beforehand and ask the tutor to work from it. An hour spent on real evidence tells you more about the match than an hour of introductions, and it happens before any payment is taken.

  4. 04

Fix the slot for a term

Agree a weekday and a time and keep it, including an agreed alternative for Ramadan and for mock weeks. Continuity with one tutor across a term outperforms a better-qualified stranger every fourth week, which is the pattern a floating slot produces.

  5. 05

Review against the school's deadline sheet

Every six weeks, check progress against your own school's internal deadlines rather than a general sense of improvement. If the next thing on the sheet is a Chemistry internal assessment draft, the next few sessions should be about method, and you should be able to see that in the plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The timetable comes first

We plan from the bus arrival and the commute home, not from a generic after-school slot. For a Barsha Heights household that usually means the lesson lands after 19:00, and saying so in advance prevents the three cancelled weeks that end most tutoring arrangements.

Subject and level, matched separately

Higher Level Chemistry and Higher Level Mathematics are matched to different tutors, because almost nobody has genuinely taught both to Diploma standard. Online delivery is what makes that affordable: there is no second journey to pay for in time or money.

Figures you can check

Every AED band on this page names who published it and when. Three of the six ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars. You should be able to verify a number before you act on it.

The coursework boundary, stated

A tutor teaches method, explains criteria and gives feedback on the student's own draft. We will not write, redraft or supply any part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay. That boundary protects the Diploma your child is working towards.

Availability disclosed, not disguised

When no suitable specialist is free you are told the wait. No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit, and several route UAE parents to numbers outside the country without saying so. A disclosed gap is more useful than a mismatched hour.

One claim at a time, no accreditation borrowed

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. We hold no approval from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB or Cambridge, we are not partnered with any named school, and we have no office in the UAE. We explain what those bodies do and link to them.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in TECOM: your questions answered

Is there an IB tutor near me in TECOM, or is everything online?+

Everything is online. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Lessons for TECOM families run live over video, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time. The practical gain is subject depth: instead of whoever can reach Barsha Heights by half past four, you get someone who has taught your child's exact subject at your child's exact level. The practical cost is that nobody sits in your living room. For a flat with no spare study and both parents commuting from Internet City, most families find the trade worth making.

What time can a lesson realistically start for a child living in the TECOM towers?+

Plan for 16:00 at the earliest and 19:00 or 19:30 for anything demanding. Dubai schools finish between 14:00 and 15:15, and the bus from the Al Barsha campuses loops through Al Barsha 1 and Hessa Street before it reaches Barsha Heights, so arrival is usually between 15:15 and 16:00. The hour straight after that is fine for reviewing a marked paper and poor for learning a new Higher Level topic. If your particular bus is early, tell us on the trial call and we will move the slot earlier.

Which schools do children in the TECOM towers usually attend?+

Most travel to Al Barsha, Al Barsha South or Al Sufouh. Common destinations include Dubai International Academy Al Barsha, GEMS Dubai American Academy, the American School of Dubai, Nord Anglia International School Dubai, Kings' School Al Barsha, Dubai Heights Academy, GEMS Wellington International School and Dubai College. Those campuses do not all assess the same way at sixteen: one runs the IB continuum, one ends in Advanced Placement, several run IGCSE before splitting into A Level or the Diploma. That is why we ask for the campus name rather than the year group.

My child is in the MYP at an Al Barsha school. Is that different from IGCSE tutoring?+

Quite different. The Middle Years Programme marks against criteria A to D on a 1-8 scale with no papers to practise, so progress is about meeting a criterion descriptor. IGCSE is externally examined with past papers, mark schemes and syllabus codes to work through. A tutor who is strong at one is not automatically useful for the other. Since neighbours in the same TECOM tower can be on either track at the same age, the first thing to establish is which marking language your child's work is actually being judged in.

How much should a TECOM family expect to spend each month on IB tutoring?+

Taking Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 bands for one weekly hour: roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 for a qualified subject tutor, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for an exam-year specialist. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 an hour and TutorChase publishes AED 270. Those are other providers' published figures, reviewed in October 2026, not ours. IB Gram starts with a trial lesson before any payment rather than a published price list.

Does a tutor who lives near Barsha Heights teach any better than one who does not?+

Proximity tells you about travel time and nothing about teaching. What predicts a useful hour is whether the tutor has taught that subject at that level, can read a mark scheme, and can look at a returned paper and say which command term the student missed. None of those correlate with a postcode. Proximity does buy one real thing, which is a person in the room, and for a very young child that can matter. For a Diploma student working on Paper 1 technique it rarely outweighs having the right specialist.

Can one tutor cover three Higher Level subjects for my Diploma student?+

Usually not well. Someone who has genuinely taught Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is unlikely to have also taught Chemistry HL mechanisms and marked Economics commentaries to the same standard. Online delivery makes splitting them practical, because there is no second journey to fund. If a provider offers one person for everything, ask which of the three they have taught at Higher Level in the past two years, and how recently. The answer is usually one of them.

What happens to our TECOM lesson slot during Ramadan?+

It moves, and it is better to agree the alternative beforehand. School hours shorten during Ramadan and the household rhythm changes, so a 19:30 slot that works in January often does not. The two slots that hold up are late morning on non-school days and after Iftar on school days. Families who plan this in advance keep continuity through the month; families who do not usually cancel three or four weeks and then try to recover the ground afterwards, which costs more and works less well.

Can a tutor help with my child's IB internal assessment or Extended Essay?+

A tutor can teach research method, explain the assessment criteria, discuss whether a research question is narrow enough to answer, and give feedback on a draft your child has written. A tutor cannot write any part of it, rewrite a paragraph into its final form, or supply data. Under IB academic-honesty rules that work must be the student's own, and breaching it is a malpractice risk that falls on your child, not on the tutor. One provider in this market sells completed internal assessments. We will not.

Who regulates the schools my child attends, and what does an inspection band mean?+

Dubai private schools come under KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Inspections place each school in a band from Outstanding down to Very Weak. A band describes the school, not your child's teaching group, and it can change year to year, so read the current one on KHDA's own site rather than from a tutoring page. In Abu Dhabi the equivalent body is ADEK and in Sharjah it is the Sharjah Private Education Authority.

Does my child still have to take Arabic and Islamic Education alongside the IB?+

Yes. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools whatever international curriculum the school is licensed for, and those requirements had to be in place by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must run separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils, because the curriculum expectation and the language of instruction differ, and combined classes are prohibited. Instructional time is calculated in 40-minute lesson units. These subjects sit outside the Diploma points total but inside your child's week.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit, and can I check it?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible categories include teachers registered in schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted figure with caution.

My child has mocks in five weeks. Is it too late to start in the TECOM afternoon slot?+

No, but the plan has to change. Five weeks is not enough to rebuild a Higher Level course and it is enough to fix paper technique, which is where a surprising share of marks sit. The sensible shape is a bounded block of six to eight sessions built from a marked past paper, aimed at one examination component, timed to your school's own mock dates. Avoid starting new content in the final fortnight. After the mock, the marked script is the single most useful document a tutor can work from.

What if nobody is available for the subject and level we need?+

You will be told the wait rather than handed whoever is free. Coverage is thinnest for a single Higher Level science at short notice in the weeks around mock season, and for Theory of Knowledge supervision in the final term. No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is why we state ours: a mismatched specialist hour is the purchase that most reliably wastes a Dubai family's money. If the wait does not work for you, we will say what would help in the meantime.

Does IB Gram have an office in TECOM or anywhere else in Dubai?+

No. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no premises in the UAE, no approval from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no partnership with any named school or school group. Everything for UAE families is delivered online. We say this plainly because two providers ranking for these searches show a Dubai address on pages for other emirates, and one routes UAE parents to a phone number outside the country. You should know who you are dealing with before a trial lesson.

Book the hour your week can actually keep

If you have read this far you probably already know which slot in your week survives contact with a working Tuesday. Tell us the campus, the subject, the level and that slot, and we will propose a tutor who has taught exactly that and can meet you in it, live online and in Gulf Standard Time. The trial lesson happens before any payment, and it is best spent on a marked paper rather than introductions. If we cannot cover your combination this month, you will hear that instead of a substitute, and you can decide what to do with the information.
