IB Physics Tutor in TECOM

Hiring an IB physics tutor in TECOM is a spending decision before it is an academic one, and most of the money wasted in this market is wasted in predictable ways. Barsha Heights families pay published Dubai rates of roughly AED 150 to 450 an hour and often buy the wrong thing: content teaching when the problem was technique, five subjects when two were affordable, or a weekly retainer through a term with nothing due. This page prices the options and names the waste. Lessons are one-to-one online.

IB & IGCSE in TECOM

What Barsha Heights families actually spend on physics, and on what

Diploma physics is one of the most tutored subjects in Dubai and one of the most expensively mistutored. The rates are public enough to check: published Dubai figures read in October 2026 put qualified online subject tutors at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and specialists across the International Baccalaureate, IGCSE and A Level at AED 200 to 450 and beyond, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and BartyED publishing AED 650 at the premium end. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 for independent home tutors.

Multiply any of those by a weekly session across two Diploma years and the number stops being a rate and becomes a commitment. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session put mid-market support at AED 600 to 1,200 a month and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. That is a decision worth making deliberately rather than drifting into, and the purpose of this page is to let a Barsha Heights family make it with the actual structure of the subject in front of them.

Where does the money go wrong? Almost always in one of five ways, and none of them involves a dishonest tutor. Content teaching bought when the problem was exam technique. Five subjects tutored eight weeks before an assessment when two were affordable. A flat retainer running through a quiet term with nothing due. A premium rate paid for routine weekly consolidation that a mid-market hour would have covered. And the Scientific Investigation, worth a fifth of the grade and produced under near-perfect conditions, left unsupported while hours go into papers.

The last of those is the most expensive and the least obvious. A fifth of the final grade, produced over months, with feedback available from a teacher and no time pressure, marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each. Every mark lost there was available in ideal conditions and was given away. Families routinely spend heavily on Paper 2 technique and nothing on the investigation, which is the wrong way round if you are buying marks rather than reassurance.

On what we provide and what we do not: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, with the question, the working, the graph and the student's own draft shared on screen. For Barsha Heights, which has no large school campus of its own and whose students are bussed outward daily, removing a fourth journey from the week is worth something in itself. What the format mainly buys, though, is a physics specialist rather than the nearest available science teacher.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics sits inside a sequence and the spending decision differs sharply by where a student is in it. Here is each stage and what it is worth paying for.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma Physics, Year One

The cheapest hours on the whole course, because mistakes are free and there is runway. Mechanics, waves and the start of fields, plus the mathematical fluency the subject assumes: rearranging, significant figures, unit handling and reading a gradient. A weekly mid-market hour in DP1 does more than a specialist hour in the final term, and costs roughly half as much.

Barsha Heights students arrive into DP1 from campuses across Al Barsha, Al Barsha South and Al Sufouh on two different pre-16 routes, and the gaps differ. An IGCSE route usually leaves conceptual electricity thin; a Middle Years route usually leaves timed answering thin. Both are cheaper to fix in DP1 than later.

DP2Ages 17-18 · Year 13

Diploma Physics, Year Two

Remaining content, the Scientific Investigation deadline, and then execution. Spending in this year should be concentrated rather than continuous: a block around the investigation, then a block on papers once teaching is complete. A retainer running evenly through DP2 pays for hours in months where nothing is due and runs out of money in the months where it matters.

Internal school deadlines for the investigation arrive well before anything the International Baccalaureate sets and are the ones that bind a term. Your Diploma coordinator publishes them, and a tutoring plan built on them beats one built on a general assumption about when the year gets busy.

IAAcross DP1 and DP2

The Scientific Investigation

Marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Worth a fifth of the final grade, produced over months with teacher feedback available. The symmetry of the criteria is the thing families underestimate, because it means evaluation is worth exactly as much as data analysis and cannot be a closing paragraph.

This is the cheapest marks available anywhere in Diploma physics and the most commonly unsupported. Four to six sessions spread across the investigation, spent on the research question and then on the evaluation, is the highest return per dirham on the whole course.

AFTERAges 18 and beyond

What Physics Is Being Bought For

Higher Level physics is a common requirement for engineering, physics and some computing programmes, and the grade rather than the experience is what the application uses. That is worth stating because it disciplines the spending: money spent on genuine grade movement is an investment, and money spent on reassurance is not, and the two feel identical at the point of purchase.

Admissions requirements are set by each institution. Khalifa University, United Arab Emirates University, the American University of Sharjah and Zayed University each publish their own, as do overseas universities, and the published programme page is the authority rather than any claim made by a tutoring provider.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma physics divides into content areas that cost very different amounts to repair. These are the ones Barsha Heights students most often need, with where the marks and the money go.

Space, time and motion

SL and HL

Kinematics, forces, momentum, energy and circular motion, with relativity added at Higher Level. Usually the most secure area because students met much of it before 16. Paying specialist rates to revise it is the clearest example of wasted spend, and a mid-market hour or self-study with past papers covers it.

The particulate nature of matter

SL and HL

Thermal physics, gas laws and the kinetic model, with thermodynamics extended at Higher Level. Marks are lost on explanations that describe a process rather than accounting for it in terms of particle behaviour, which is a command-term problem rather than a content gap and therefore cheap to fix.

Wave behaviour

SL and HL

Wave characteristics, superposition, standing waves, the Doppler effect and diffraction. The mathematics is more demanding than students expect and the diagrams carry marks of their own. A genuine content area where a specialist hour earns its rate, particularly at Higher Level.

Fields

SL and HL

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, circuits, electromagnetic induction and, at Higher Level, considerably more field theory. The single most expensive area of the course to repair and the one where an under-powered pre-16 electricity foundation shows. Worth paying properly for and worth starting in DP1.

Nuclear and quantum physics

SL and HL

Radioactive decay, nuclear energy, the photoelectric effect and, at Higher Level, quantum and nuclear structure extensions. Taught late in most schools, which means it is routinely under-practised when papers arrive. Short, concentrated work here is good value precisely because the whole cohort is thin on it.

Uncertainties and error analysis

SL and HL, heavily in the investigation

Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, propagation through a calculation, and error bars with a line of worst fit. Examined in Paper 1B and central to data analysis in the investigation. Compact enough to teach in two or three sessions and worth a disproportionate number of marks, which makes it exceptional value.

Graph interpretation

SL and HL

What a gradient and an area under a line physically represent, linearising a relationship to test it, and reading a value with its uncertainty. Students produce a number where the question asked for a physical meaning. One of the cheapest and most transferable skills on the course to buy.

Mathematical fluency for physics

SL and HL

Rearranging before substituting, significant figures, standard form, unit consistency and trigonometry in resolving vectors. Not physics content but the cause of a large share of physics marks lost. Weeks rather than sessions to build properly, which is why it belongs in DP1 and is poor value to attempt late.

Paper 1A multiple choice

SL and HL

Short multiple-choice questions where the distractors are built from the specific misconceptions the syllabus expects. Highly coachable from past papers at low cost, because the same misconceptions recur, and a student who learns to spot the trap pattern gains quickly without new content.

Paper 1B data-based questions

SL and HL

Experimental and data-analysis questions sitting inside Paper 1, drawing on uncertainty, graphing and method evaluation. It overlaps heavily with the Scientific Investigation skills, which means hours spent here are bought twice over, and that overlap is the single best value in the subject.

Paper 2 extended response

SL and HL

Short-answer and extended questions carrying the largest share of the grade at both levels. Marks are lost to command terms and to unexplained working rather than to missing knowledge. Technique work here is cheap relative to its effect and should usually precede any further content teaching.

Higher Level extension content

HL only

Additional material within each theme rather than a separate unit, with extra depth in fields, thermodynamics and quantum physics. The extension content is where Higher Level grades are decided, so a Higher Level student paying for help with Standard Level material is paying for the wrong half of their course.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways to spend on physics, ordered by return per dirham rather than by popularity. All are one-to-one over live video.

Investigation block, four to six sessions

The best value available in the subject and the most commonly skipped. A fifth of the grade, 24 marks across four criteria of six, produced with teacher feedback available and no time pressure. Two sessions on the research question before any data exist, two on data analysis and uncertainty, two on evaluation, which is where almost every draft is thin.

  • Research question tested for measurability and control before data collection
  • Uncertainty propagation and error bars taught properly, which Paper 1B also examines
  • Evaluation treated as a quarter of the marks, not a closing paragraph
  • The student writes every word; the tutor explains criteria and marks the draft

Technique block before an assessment

Four to six sessions on execution rather than content, which is the cheaper of the two and usually the one that is actually needed. Command terms, explained working, Paper 1A distractor patterns, pacing. Diagnosed from a marked script so the hours go where the marks went rather than where the student feels weakest.

  • Starts from a marked paper, with lost marks split into content, method, technique and timing
  • Paper 1A misconception traps drilled from past papers
  • Command terms practised by question type, not discussed in the abstract
  • A recurring-error list that visibly empties before the assessment

Weekly DP1 hour

The cheapest useful hour on the course, because content taught properly in DP1 does not need re-teaching in DP2 and a mid-market rate covers it. Mathematical fluency, early fields work and the habit of attempting past-paper questions rather than rereading notes. Families who buy this rarely need the expensive version later.

  • 60 minutes weekly at a mid-market rather than specialist rate
  • Mathematical fluency built while there is time for it to become a reflex
  • Fields and electricity attacked early, since they are the costliest to repair
  • Past-paper questions from the first session, marked honestly

Short Higher Level extension work

Narrow, late and specialist, for Higher Level students whose Standard Level material is secure and whose grade sits on the extension content within each theme. This is the one place a premium rate is defensible, because the work is genuinely specialist and the window is short. Buying it for routine consolidation is not.

  • Targeted at the additional Higher Level depth in fields, thermodynamics and quantum physics
  • Booked as a defined block rather than an open retainer
  • Only sensible once Standard Level content is already secure
  • Measured against a timed Higher Level paper section before and after

01

What an IB physics tutor in TECOM costs, band by band

Here is the market, with every figure credited to the provider that published it and read in October 2026. None of it is IB Gram's price list. Reading the table from the bottom up is more useful than from the top down, because the question is not what the best tutor costs but what the least expensive option that solves your actual problem costs.

The budget band, roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, is published by EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. For Diploma physics this band is genuinely limited. It can supervise, keep a student company and check that work has been attempted, and for a DP1 student whose problem is discipline rather than understanding that may be enough. It cannot diagnose a Higher Level fields gap or coach a Scientific Investigation to the criteria.

The qualified band, AED 150 to 300, is where most of the useful spending sits, with Unitors publishing International Baccalaureate from AED 200. A weekly hour here through DP1 is the single best-value purchase in the subject. Above it, the specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and beyond, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate reaching past 450, is worth paying for the Higher Level extension content and the final execution window, and is poor value for routine weekly consolidation.

At the top, BartyED publishes AED 650. A rate like that can be defensible for narrow, late grade-ceiling work on Higher Level material; it is almost never defensible for a term of general support. And the in-home column, AED 180 to 350 from Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 for independent home tutors, is buying travel rather than physics. In Barsha Heights, where a tutor arrives with a variable twenty minutes attached, that is a particularly poor exchange for a subject where specification match is the scarce thing.

The five ways physics tutoring money gets wasted

None of these involves a dishonest tutor. They are all mismatches between what was bought and what the student needed, and they recur often enough to be predictable. A family that recognises its own pattern in this list can usually spend less and get more, which is a strange thing for a tutoring page to argue and is also true.

The first and largest is buying content when the problem was technique. A student who understands fields perfectly and loses marks for unexplained working, missing units or answering a describe question when the paper asked for an explanation does not need more physics. They need four sessions on execution, which is cheaper than four on content and produces a bigger movement. The way to tell is a marked script: if lost marks are concentrated in method and command terms rather than in whole unanswered questions, the problem is technique.

The second is breadth under deadline pressure. Eight weeks before an assessment, a family worried about several subjects buys tutoring in all of them and halves the hours available for each. A student tutored in five subjects eight weeks out is being tutored in none of them. Two subjects, chosen by which marks sit nearest a boundary, is the only version of that purchase that moves anything.

The third is the flat retainer through a quiet term. The fourth is paying a specialist or premium rate for routine consolidation that a mid-market hour covers, which can double the annual cost for no additional effect. And the fifth, the most expensive, is leaving the Scientific Investigation unsupported while hours go into papers. A fifth of the grade, produced in ideal conditions, marked out of 24 across four equal criteria, and routinely the one thing nobody buys help with.

Where the marks are, so you can see where the money should go

A spending decision needs the weightings in front of it. Diploma physics is assessed through Paper 1, which carries 36% and divides into Paper 1A multiple choice and Paper 1B data-based questions, through Paper 2 at 44%, which carries the short-answer and extended-response load, and through the Scientific Investigation at 20%. That structure applies at both Standard and Higher Level, with Higher Level adding extension content within each theme rather than a separate paper.

Read those proportions against where tutoring hours usually go and the mismatch is obvious. Paper 2 is the largest component and usually gets attention. Paper 1B, the data-based section, overlaps almost completely with the skills the investigation assesses, which means hours spent on uncertainty propagation, error bars and method evaluation are bought twice over. That overlap is the single best value in the subject and it is rarely exploited deliberately.

Paper 1A rewards a different kind of work again. Multiple-choice distractors are built from the specific misconceptions the syllabus anticipates, and the same traps recur across series. A student who learns the pattern gains marks without learning new physics, which makes it cheap. It also requires nothing more than past papers and somebody to explain why each wrong option was attractive, so a mid-market hour covers it perfectly well.

As ever, treat these as the published structure to be confirmed rather than figures to act on blindly. Subject guides are revised and your school's Diploma coordinator holds the version that applies to your child's cohort. No International Baccalaureate examination or results date appears on this page, because the IB's own site blocks automated access and no date in this project has been confirmed from source.

The Scientific Investigation: the cheapest marks in the course

  • 24 marks, four criteria of six: research design, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation
  • Evaluation carries exactly as much as data analysis and is the thinnest part of most drafts
  • Research design is decided before data collection, by whether the question is controllable
  • Uncertainty and graphing work also prepares Paper 1B, so those hours count twice
  • The student writes every word; a tutor explains criteria, questions and marks

Marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. A fifth of the final grade. Produced over months rather than in an examination hall, with teacher feedback available and no clock running. There is no other component in Diploma physics where the conditions are this favourable, and there is no other component families so reliably leave unsupported.

The symmetry of the criteria is the fact that changes behaviour once a family knows it. Evaluation is worth exactly as much as data analysis. Most first drafts we see contain several pages of data processing and four sentences of evaluation, which gives away a quarter of the available marks in the last paragraph. Research design is worth the same again, and it is determined before any data exist, by whether the research question is measurable, controllable and answerable with the apparatus available.

That ordering tells you when to buy the sessions. Two before data collection, on the research question and the method, because a question that cannot be controlled caps research design and then undermines everything downstream. Two in the middle, on uncertainty propagation, graphing and the line of worst fit, which also prepares Paper 1B. Two at the end, on evaluation, which is the thinnest part of nearly every draft. Six sessions, timed to the school's own internal deadlines rather than spread evenly.

The boundary on what a tutor may do here is firm and worth stating before anybody books. A tutor may explain the criteria, question whether a research question is measurable, check whether uncertainty has been handled correctly, ask why a conclusion follows from the data, and mark the student's own draft against the published criteria. A tutor may not design the investigation, process the data, write any section, or revise prose until the words are no longer the student's. The student and the school declare the work authentic, and a breach is a malpractice finding against your child.

05

Higher Level against Standard Level, and whether it costs more to support

Higher Level physics adds extension content within each theme rather than a separate paper, with additional depth in fields, thermodynamics and quantum physics. The component weightings stay the same. That structure has a direct consequence for spending that families rarely see: a Higher Level student paying for help with Standard Level material is paying for the wrong half of their course, because the grade is decided in the extension content.

The practical sequence is therefore to establish security in the shared material first, cheaply, and only then buy specialist help for the extension depth. A student who is shaky on circuits should not be paying specialist rates for Higher Level field theory, because the field theory will not hold on a weak foundation and the hours will be spent re-teaching circuits at a premium rate. That is one of the most common and most expensive mismatches in the subject.

There is a related decision some families face in DP1, which is whether to continue at Higher Level at all. That should be made on evidence rather than ambition. A timed section of a Higher Level paper, marked, tells you plainly where a student sits. So does the same student's performance on the mathematical fluency the course assumes, because Higher Level physics is less forgiving of hesitant algebra than Standard Level is. A tutor's useful contribution here is the diagnostic, not the opinion.

Where a student does continue, the honest spending shape is a cheap weekly hour in DP1 building fluency and the shared content, then a defined specialist block in DP2 on the extension material, plus the investigation sessions. That costs materially less than a specialist retainer across two years and targets the money at the content that actually separates grades. We will recommend it in those terms, including when it means a smaller booking.

06

Tutoring cost in context for a Dubai family

Tutoring is not the only education cost in a Dubai household, and the context changes how a figure feels. One useful anchor: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion. For a family already committed to private school fees, a frozen year is the moment a tutoring decision becomes easier rather than harder.

The scale of the market around you is worth knowing too. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with the UK curriculum accounting for 37% of enrolment, Indian 26%, US 14% and the International Baccalaureate 7%. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, with enrolment having risen 6% during 2025-26.

Against that backdrop, here is the honest arithmetic of the tutoring options as a Barsha Heights family would actually encounter them, built from the published bands rather than from our own prices. A weekly mid-market hour across a Diploma year, a concentrated investigation block, a technique block before an assessment, and a specialist extension block. Seeing them side by side usually changes which combination a family chooses, because the cheapest combination that solves the real problem is rarely the one that gets bought by default.

One honest caution about the whole table. We do not know your child's diagnosis, so these are costs rather than recommendations, and we decline to quote an hour count before a diagnostic for the same reason. An estimate produced before anybody has seen a marked script or a draft investigation is a sales number dressed as a plan, and you should treat it as one wherever you encounter it, including from us.

Academic honesty, copyright and what we will not sell

This belongs on a page about money because some of what is sold in this market should not be bought at any price. Research for this project found a provider selling completed Internal Assessments outright at a published figure. That is not tutoring. It is an academic-integrity breach that triggers malpractice proceedings against the student rather than the seller, and a family buying it is paying for a risk to their child's qualification.

The legitimate boundary is clear enough to apply yourself. A tutor may teach content, explain assessment criteria, model how a question type is answered, question whether a research question is measurable, mark the student's own work and give feedback on it, and coach planning and revision. A useful test is whether your child's own school teacher could do the same thing openly. If they could, a tutor can too.

A tutor may not design an investigation, process its data, write any section of it, dictate answers for transcription, or edit text until the words are no longer the student's. Nor may anybody legitimately distribute International Baccalaureate subject guides, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary documents as downloads, because those are the IB's copyright. We reference them, link to the official source and work from them inside a session, and your child's school can reach the official material directly.

On status: IB Gram is not approved, accredited, certified or licensed by the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education, and claims none of those relationships. We do not operate an office, centre or branch in the UAE. Any provider using a phrase like approved by a regulator should be asked to produce the permit or centre number, because those instruments are specific and checkable.

08

Booking, and the number we will not give you

  • Send the level, the component and a marked script or draft investigation
  • No hour count quoted before the diagnostic, because that number would be invented
  • Free trial, then a written note naming the cheapest effective intervention
  • 17:30 and 18:00 slots secured in term one, before the second term takes them
  • Coverage limits stated with a date rather than discovered after booking

Send the level, the component causing the problem, and a marked script or a draft investigation if you have one. The marked script is the document that determines the whole spending decision, because it shows whether lost marks sat in content, method, technique or timing, and those four cost very different amounts to fix. A description of the problem rarely distinguishes them and the script does it in two minutes.

The number we will not give you before that is an hour count. Any figure quoted before somebody has seen the evidence is invented, however confidently it is delivered, and it is usually invented upward. After the free trial you receive a written note: the component, where the marks went, what the cheapest effective intervention is, and a realistic session estimate for the window you have. If that estimate is four sessions rather than a term, the note will say four.

Scheduling follows Barsha Heights reality. Children here return on multi-stop bus routes between a quarter past five and six, so the workable slots are 17:30 and 18:00, and those are the most demanded tutoring hours in the Dubai year with demand peaking in the second term. Securing one in term one costs nothing extra and is worth real money. Investigation work often moves to weekend mornings, which suits sustained writing better than a weekday evening after a commute.

Two limits before you commit. Higher Level physics specialists for a specific weekend hour are among the thinner combinations we staff, and we will give you a date rather than take a booking and hope. And if no UAE-based tutor is free for your combination, we will say whether a tutor based elsewhere can cover your hour in Gulf Standard Time, and you may decline. IB Gram runs no home visits in Dubai; every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video.

Where we tutor

Barsha Heights and the corridor it sits in

Location changes the cost of in-person tutoring and almost nothing else. These are the communities in the same corridor and what the journey does to the price.

Barsha Heights (TECOM)

Towers with no large campus inside them. A tutor driving in at half past five arrives with a variable twenty minutes attached, which is part of what the in-home premium of AED 180 to 500 an hour is paying for.

Dubai Internet City and Media City

Largely commercial with residential towers. Parking and access add further time for an in-person visit, and the online alternative removes the question entirely.

Al Barsha 1 and 2

South across the interchange, where many destination campuses sit. The crossing peaks at exactly the hour a session runs, which makes a fixed in-person appointment the least reliable arrangement in this corridor.

Al Barsha South

Further inland with several large campuses. The longest common run from Barsha Heights and the one that pushes session times to 18:00, which is also the scarcest hour of the Dubai year.

Al Sufouh and Knowledge Village

North towards the coast, holding large campuses and the university corridor that supplies much of the area's budget tutoring advertising at the AED 33 to 65 floor.

The Greens and The Views

Across Sheikh Zayed Road, compact apartment communities with their own significant Diploma population and the same evening timing pressure.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Along the coast, dense and tower-based. Demand for physics specialists peaks across the whole corridor at the same hours, which is what makes second-term evening slots scarce.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

Opposite the Marina across the highway, with a comparable profile and the same shortage of tutors who have actually taught Higher Level physics to examination.

Emirates Hills and The Meadows

Villa communities inland with long drives in every direction, which is where the in-home travel premium is largest and hardest to justify for a specialist subject.

Al Quoz

Mixed residential and light industrial to the south-east, with heavy cross-traffic at pickup and the most unpredictable arrival times in this corridor.

The Al Barsha destinations

The nearest cluster of campuses and the most common bus destination from Barsha Heights, running a mix of curricula. For a physics spending decision the relevant fact is which pre-16 route the student came through, because an IGCSE route and a Middle Years route leave different and differently priced gaps.

  • GEMS Dubai American Academy
  • American School of Dubai
  • Al Mawakeb School Al Barsha
  • Dubai National School Al Barsha
  • Repton Al Barsha

The coastal and Al Sufouh campuses

Several of the larger International Baccalaureate campuses in this part of Dubai sit here, which means Higher Level physics cohorts are bigger and school support is generally stronger. That changes the spending calculus: there is often less to buy, and what is worth buying is investigation support rather than content teaching.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Dubai College
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Regent International School

The Al Barsha South and inland campuses

The longest bus runs and a mix of Diploma and A Level sixth forms. Higher Level physics cohorts here can be small, which means fewer local tutors have taught the course through to examination and the honest option is a wider online pool rather than a nearby compromise.

  • Safa Community School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Sunmarke School

Schools are named to describe where Barsha Heights students travel and the programmes those campuses run. IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or commercial relationship with any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the marked script first

It is the document that decides the spending. Lost marks in content, method, technique and timing cost very different amounts to repair, and the script separates them immediately where a description of the problem usually does not. If you have a draft investigation as well, send that, because it is the component with the most money on the table.

  2. 02

    Diagnose before anybody quotes anything

The free session is spent on a timed paper section or a draft investigation, with the student working rather than watching. The output is a written note naming the component, where the marks went and what the least expensive effective intervention is. We quote hours only after that, because a number produced earlier would be guesswork.

  3. 03

Match the rate to the job

Routine theme consolidation does not need a specialist rate, and Higher Level extension content does not survive a budget one. We say which band your child's actual problem sits in, including when that means recommending a cheaper arrangement than the one you enquired about, because the alternative is selling a mismatch.

  4. 04

Buy blocks, not retainers, in DP2

A flat weekly arrangement through the second Diploma year pays for hours in months when nothing is due and runs short in the months that matter. Concentrated blocks timed to the school's own internal deadlines cost less and land where the marks are, which is why we build plans from the coordinator's published dates.

  5. 05

Weight the investigation hours to evaluation

Research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation each carry six of the 24 marks, and evaluation is the thinnest part of nearly every draft we read. Sessions are placed two before data collection, two during analysis and two on evaluation rather than spread evenly, because that is where the unclaimed marks sit.

  6. 06

    Review on marks, then stop

Every fourth session includes a timed section measured against earlier attempts at the same question types. If the marks have moved and the component is secure, we say so and the block ends rather than renewing by default. A tutoring arrangement that never recommends its own conclusion is selling reassurance.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every AED figure attributed and dated

Each rate on this page is credited to the provider or rate table that published it and dated to October 2026, in dirhams rather than dollars. Three of six researched competitor pages publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars. None of these numbers is IB Gram's price list, and we say so beside each one.

The waste patterns named, not hidden

Content bought when technique was the problem, five subjects eight weeks out, retainers through quiet terms, premium rates for routine work, and the investigation left unsupported. These are the five ways physics money disappears in Dubai, and a family that spots its own pattern usually spends less for more.

Weightings published so spending can follow marks

Paper 2 at 44%, Paper 1 at 36% split between multiple choice and data-based questions, and the Scientific Investigation at 20%. Published so you can check whether the hours you are buying sit against the components that carry the grade rather than the ones that feel most alarming.

The investigation treated as the best value in the subject

A fifth of the grade, 24 marks across four equal criteria, produced with feedback available and no clock running. It is the cheapest place to buy marks and the component families most reliably skip, and the Paper 1B overlap means those hours are bought twice over.

No hour count before a diagnostic

An estimate produced before anybody has seen a marked script or a draft investigation is invented, and usually invented upward. We give the number after the free session, in writing, alongside the cheapest effective intervention, even when the honest answer is four sessions rather than a term.

Blocks that end rather than renew

When a timed section shows the component is secure, we say so and the block finishes. Reviews are written, short and sent to you, so there is a record rather than a recollection. A tutoring arrangement that never recommends its own conclusion is selling something other than teaching.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in TECOM: your questions answered

How much does an IB physics tutor cost in TECOM?+

Published Dubai rates read in October 2026 put qualified online subject tutors at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors listing International Baccalaureate from AED 200, and specialists across IB, IGCSE and A Level at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270 and BartyED publishing AED 650 at the premium end. Budget online options run AED 45 to 150. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 for independent home tutors. None of those is IB Gram's price; we start with a free trial and a consultation.

Where do families most often waste money on physics tutoring?+

Five places, none of which involves a dishonest tutor. Buying content teaching when a marked script shows the problem was technique. Tutoring five subjects eight weeks before an assessment instead of two. Running a flat retainer through a term with nothing due. Paying a specialist or premium rate for routine consolidation a mid-market hour would cover. And leaving the Scientific Investigation unsupported while every hour goes into papers, which gives away a fifth of the grade under near-perfect conditions. The marked script usually identifies which pattern applies.

Is a premium rate ever worth paying for physics?+

Narrowly, yes. A rate at the top of the published range can be defensible for short, late work on Higher Level extension content where a student is already secure in the shared material and the grade sits on the extra depth in fields, thermodynamics or quantum physics. It is almost never defensible for a term of general support or routine theme revision, where a qualified tutor at AED 150 to 300 does the same job. The distinction is whether the work is genuinely specialist or simply being delivered by a specialist.

What is the Scientific Investigation worth and why does it matter so much?+

Twenty per cent of the final physics grade, marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. It is produced over months with teacher feedback available and no clock running, which makes it the most controllable mark on the whole course. Every mark lost there was available in ideal conditions and was given away. It is also the component families most reliably leave unsupported, which is why it is the cheapest place in the subject to buy marks.

Which part of the investigation is usually weakest?+

Evaluation, by a wide margin. It carries six of the 24 marks, exactly as much as data analysis, and most first drafts contain several pages of processing and four sentences of evaluation. Research design is the other recurring weakness, and it is decided before any data exist, by whether the research question is measurable, controllable and answerable with the apparatus available. That is why the sensible pattern is two sessions before data collection, two during analysis and two on evaluation rather than six spread evenly.

How are the physics papers weighted?+

Paper 1 carries 36% and divides into Paper 1A, multiple choice, and Paper 1B, data-based and experimental questions. Paper 2 carries 44% with short-answer and extended-response questions. The Scientific Investigation carries 20%. That structure applies at both Standard and Higher Level, with Higher Level adding extension content within each theme rather than a separate paper. Confirm the figures against the current subject guide through your school's Diploma coordinator, because the International Baccalaureate revises its guides periodically.

Why is Paper 1B unusually good value to prepare?+

Because the skills it tests overlap almost completely with the Scientific Investigation. Uncertainty propagation, error bars, lines of worst fit, reading a value with its uncertainty, and evaluating a method all appear in both. Hours spent on them are therefore bought twice over, counting towards a component inside the 36% paper and towards a component worth 20% of the grade on its own. That overlap is the single best value available in Diploma physics and it is rarely exploited deliberately.

What does Higher Level physics add, and should we pay more for it?+

It adds extension content within each theme rather than a separate paper, with additional depth in fields, thermodynamics and quantum physics, while the component weightings stay the same. Pay for a specialist on the extension content and not on the shared material. The common and expensive mismatch is a student who is shaky on circuits paying specialist rates for Higher Level field theory: the field theory will not hold on a weak foundation, and the premium hours get spent re-teaching the basics.

When is the cheapest time to buy physics tutoring?+

The first Diploma year, by a clear margin. Content taught properly then does not need re-teaching later, mathematical fluency has time to become a reflex, and a mid-market hour at AED 150 to 300 covers the work that would otherwise need a specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more in the final term. Families who buy the cheap hour early rarely need the expensive version late. The most expensive moment to start is eight weeks before an assessment, when the options narrow to technique alone.

Can a physics tutor help with the investigation without breaking the rules?+

Within firm limits. A tutor may explain the criteria, question whether a research question is measurable and controllable, check whether uncertainty has been handled correctly, ask why a conclusion follows from the data, and mark the student's own draft against the published criteria. A tutor may not design the investigation, process the data, write any section, or revise prose until the words are no longer the student's. The student and the school declare the work authentic, and a breach is a malpractice finding against your child rather than the tutor.

Is in-home tutoring worth the premium for physics?+

Rarely, and the reason is specific to this subject. The published in-home band of AED 180 to 350 from Bestimate, or AED 200 to 500 for independent home tutors, is buying travel rather than physics, and in Barsha Heights a tutor driving in at half past five arrives with a variable twenty minutes attached. What is scarce in Diploma physics is a person who has taught Higher Level fields to examination, and the local pool is small. Presence in the room is a real good; it is just not the scarce one here.

Why will you not tell me how many sessions my child needs?+

Because any number given before somebody has seen a marked script or a draft investigation is invented, and usually invented upward. Lost marks in content, method, technique and timing cost very different amounts to repair, and only the evidence distinguishes them. After the free diagnostic you get a written estimate alongside the cheapest effective intervention, and if that estimate is four sessions rather than a term, the note will say four. Treat any provider who quotes before diagnosing as giving you a sales figure.

Does the Dubai school fee freeze change the tutoring decision?+

It makes it easier for a family already committed to private fees. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion. A frozen fee year is a reasonable moment to fund a concentrated block, such as investigation support, that would otherwise be postponed. It does not change what is worth buying, only when it is affordable.

What time do physics sessions run for Barsha Heights families?+

Usually 17:30 or 18:00, because Barsha Heights contains no large school campus and children return on multi-stop bus routes between a quarter past five and six rather than at a bell. Those evening hours are the most demanded tutoring slots in the Dubai year, with demand peaking in the second term, so arranging one in term one secures it at no extra cost. Investigation work often moves to weekend mornings, which suits sustained writing better. During Ramadan, sessions shift to post-Iftar slots for families who want them there.

Can you give me the IB physics exam dates?+

No, and we will not estimate them. The International Baccalaureate's own website returns an error to automated requests, so no session or results date in this project has been confirmed from source, and an unverified date that a family plans around is worse than none at all. The May session is the one UAE schools sit. Your Diploma coordinator holds the authoritative dates and, more usefully, the internal deadlines for the Scientific Investigation, which arrive well before anything the IB sets and are what actually shapes the spending plan.

Buy the diagnosis before you buy the hours

Almost all of the money wasted on physics tutoring in Dubai is wasted at the point of purchase rather than during the teaching, because the wrong thing was bought with the best intentions. A marked script tells you whether the problem is content, method, technique or timing, and those four cost very different amounts to repair. A draft investigation tells you whether a fifth of the grade is being handled or quietly given away. Send us the level, the component and whichever of those documents you have, and the free trial lesson will produce a written note naming the cheapest effective intervention and a realistic session count. If that count is four rather than a term, the note will say four. Lessons are one-to-one online, in Gulf Standard Time.
