IGCSE Tutor near me in Oud Metha

Typing "IGCSE tutor near me in Oud Metha" into Google usually means one of two things: your child's grade has slipped, or the next report is due and nobody at home can read the mark scheme. This page answers the money question first, because in Oud Metha the search radius is short and the price range is not. Market rates in Dubai run from AED 45 an hour to AED 650. IB Gram matches your child to a subject specialist and teaches one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Oud Metha

The honest answer to "near me", and what it costs you

Oud Metha has an unusual property for Dubai: the schools are close together and so are the families. The Indian High School sits on the Oud Metha Road, St Mary's Catholic High School and Dubai Gem Private School are within a few minutes of it, and Dubai English Speaking School and Pakistan Education Academy are inside the same loop. A parent searching for an IGCSE tutor near me in Oud Metha is not facing a sixty-minute drive to find one. They are facing something subtler and more expensive: a short list of whoever happens to live in that square kilometre, charging a travel premium for a journey that takes nine minutes.

That is the cost problem this page is about. Proximity feels like it should be cheap, and in Oud Metha it genuinely is cheaper than a tutor crossing Dubai to Arabian Ranches. What proximity does not buy is syllabus match. Your child might be sitting Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 Extended, or Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 alongside it, or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 with its own tiering and its own calculator rules. A tutor nine minutes away who learned the other board is not a bargain at any hourly rate. The sessions feel productive, the past paper questions look familiar, and the first proper mock reveals that half the technique was for a different paper.

So the spend breaks into two decisions, and only one of them is about the hourly figure. The first is whether you are buying the right syllabus. The second is how you buy the hours: by the hour, by the month, by the term, or in a short diagnostic block before committing to anything. Dubai providers price all four differently, and the published monthly packages are not simply the hourly rate multiplied out. One provider advertises AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. In-home monthly packages in the same market sit at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Those two offers are not the same product, and the gap between them is almost entirely travel.

Every dirham figure on this page comes from a provider's own published rate card or from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, read in October 2026. None of them is an IB Gram price. We publish the market because the rest of this search result does not: of the competitor pages measured for this project, three of six publish no price at all, and the two that do quote United States dollars, a currency no Oud Metha family pays school fees in. A parent cannot judge value against a blank.

What follows is the spend, laid out so you can argue with it: the monthly commitment first, then what the travel premium actually buys minute by minute, then the Core and Extended tier decision that is worth more than a term of tuition, then the exam-entry costs nobody mentions, and finally how many subjects the Ministry of Education counts, because over-entering is the single largest avoidable cost in an IGCSE year.

  • Market hourly rates in Dubai: AED 45-150 budget, 150-300 qualified online, 180-500 in-home, 200-450+ specialist, 500-650+ premium
  • A published online monthly package of AED 799 for eight sessions is roughly AED 100 an hour; the in-home equivalent is roughly AED 200-225
  • Confirm the syllabus code on your child's school entry statement before paying for a single hour
  • MoE equivalency on the British track counts five accredited IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3; Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from that count

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Oud Metha's school belt runs more than one route to a sixteen-plus qualification, and the fee you pay for support depends on which one your child is on. These are the four that matter inside this catchment, with the cost implication of each spelled out rather than implied.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

The two-year course most British-curriculum schools in the Bur Dubai belt run to age sixteen. Subjects are coded: Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, English as a Second Language 0510. Many subjects are tiered into Core and Extended, which changes the grade ceiling and the paper set. Cambridge runs the exams in a June series and a November series, and allocates every centre to one of six administrative timetable zones.

Across Dubai's private sector the UK curriculum accounts for 37 per cent of the emirate's 387,441 private pupils in 227 schools, the largest single share. Inside Oud Metha that share is spread across schools that mix British and Indian provision, so a household can easily have one child on IGCSE and a sibling on a CBSE track with a completely different fee and tuition profile.

4MA1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other board sat widely in Dubai, with its own codes and its own structure: Mathematics A 4MA1 is tiered Foundation and Higher, Physics is 4PH1, Chemistry 4CH1. Exams run in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026 - the sort of gap that decides whether a resit fits before a university deadline.

Pearson publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each series, so any session plan built for an Oud Metha family should link the live official timetable rather than trusting a date restated on a tutoring page. Pearson's modular structure is also the practical reason some Bur Dubai schools split entries across two boards: a subject can be banked earlier.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

The alternative route to sixteen in the IB continuum schools near Oud Metha, including Swiss International Scientific School Dubai in Al Jaddaf. MYP is assessed against four criteria per subject group on a 1-8 scale rather than by a terminal examination paper, so the support a student needs looks nothing like IGCSE past-paper drilling and should not be priced as though it were.

International Baccalaureate programmes account for 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment, and Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools - four UK curriculum and three IB - creating 16,846 new places. A family weighing IGCSE against MYP in this belt has more IB capacity arriving nearby than it did two years ago.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Where a large share of IGCSE students in this catchment go next, the other share going to A Level. The Diploma's six subjects plus Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service load is heavier than most Year 11 students expect, and the subjects chosen at IGCSE constrain which Higher Levels are realistic. Mathematics is the usual pinch point.

The practical cost consequence for an Oud Metha household is that money spent on IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606 in Year 11 often removes the need for a full remedial block in Diploma year one. Deciding that in Year 11 is cheaper than discovering it in Year 12, and considerably cheaper than a Higher Level subject change in October.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Prices in this market do not vary much by subject, but the number of hours a subject needs varies enormously. Below are the IGCSE subjects most requested by families in the Bur Dubai belt, each with the code to confirm against your child's entry statement and a note on where the hours actually go.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580)

Core and Extended

Tiered, and the tier decision sets the grade ceiling. Extended carries the algebra, functions, trigonometry and probability content that a Diploma Mathematics course assumes. Most lost marks are not conceptual: they are method marks surrendered by unshown working and by misreading a command verb.

Mathematics A (Pearson 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

The Edexcel alternative, Foundation and Higher tiered, two papers each. Question style differs from Cambridge enough that past-paper technique does not transfer cleanly. A tutor working from the wrong board's papers will look competent for about six weeks.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Taken alongside 0580 by students heading for Higher Level Mathematics or engineering. It introduces calculus, logarithms and matrices early. Families who fund this in Year 11 frequently need fewer remedial hours in Diploma year one.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism are where UAE candidates most often lose structured-question marks, usually by describing an effect when the verb asked them to explain it. Practical skills are examined through the alternative-to-practical paper where a centre does not run the practical option.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations and organic chemistry take the hours. The six-mark extended-response questions reward a structured answer with linked reasoning, which is a trainable skill rather than a content gap, and therefore cheap to fix if diagnosed early.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

Content-heavy and deceptively easy to revise badly. Students read notes and feel prepared, then lose marks on data interpretation and on the precision of definitions. Sessions are better spent on past-paper mark schemes than on re-reading.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award

A double-award route covering all three sciences, common where a timetable cannot fit three separate sciences. It limits depth, which matters if a student intends Higher Level Chemistry or Physics later. Worth checking before funding three separate science tutors.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510)

Core and Extended

Counts towards the five subjects MoE equivalency recognises on the British track. Marks are won on reading-comprehension technique and on the controlled writing tasks, where a rubric-led approach moves grades faster than general conversation practice.

English First Language (Cambridge 0500)

Single tier

Directed writing and the analysis of unseen passages. The gap for many Oud Metha students is not vocabulary but the ability to write about how a writer achieves an effect rather than what the passage says. That is a technique fix, usually six to eight sessions.

Economics (Cambridge 0455) and Business Studies (0450)

Single tier

Both reward structured evaluation and the correct use of diagrams. Students who revise definitions and ignore the eight-mark evaluation questions cap themselves in the middle of the grade range regardless of how many hours are bought.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Theory paper plus algorithm and programming problem-solving. Pseudocode conventions carry marks, and students who code fluently in Python still drop marks by writing Python where the mark scheme expects the syllabus pseudocode.

Arabic as a First Language (Cambridge 0508)

Single tier

Sat by many students in this belt alongside the KHDA-mandated Arabic provision. Note for budgeting: Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among the five subjects required for MoE equivalency on the British track, so they are taken for other reasons.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families in this belt buy IGCSE support, priced by what each one is actually for. The right choice is usually the cheapest one that answers the question you have, not the most comprehensive one available.

Short diagnostic block

Three to four sessions bought to find out what is actually wrong before committing to a term. For a student whose grade has slipped without an obvious cause, this is the cheapest useful purchase available, and it frequently ends with a shorter plan than the parent expected to buy.

  • Three to four one-hour sessions on the confirmed syllabus code
  • Ends with a written list of topics and techniques to fix, in priority order
  • Often reveals the problem is exam technique, not content
  • No term-long commitment made before the diagnosis exists

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A fixed hour each week with the same subject specialist, held through the term. This is the mode most Oud Metha families settle into, and holding the same slot matters more than the day of the week: a moving appointment gets dropped first when the school timetable tightens.

  • One tutor, one student, same hour each week
  • Session timed to Gulf Standard Time around the local school run
  • Work set between sessions against the school's own deadlines
  • Screen-sharing of the student's own written work, marked live

Pre-series intensive

A concentrated run in the weeks before the June or November series, built around past papers and mark schemes rather than new content. Rates across this market tend to firm up as a series approaches, so the cheapest version of this block is the one booked early.

  • Two or three sessions a week in the run-up to the series
  • Timed paper practice marked against the official mark scheme
  • Command-verb and method-mark work rather than fresh teaching
  • Scheduled around the school's own mock window, not against it

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Oud Metha

01

Buy by the month, not by the hour, and compare what the month contains

An online IGCSE tutor in Dubai costs roughly AED 100 an hour at the cheapest published monthly package and roughly AED 300 an hour at the top of the qualified-tutor band, reviewed October 2026. The hourly figure is the number every provider advertises and the one that tells you least, because the sessions per week, the session length and whether marking happens between sessions all sit outside it. A household in Oud Metha deciding between two offers at AED 150 and AED 220 an hour is not comparing two prices; it is comparing two different products with a price attached to each.

Start from the monthly commitment instead. One Dubai provider publishes an online package at AED 799 a month for eight sessions. In-home monthly packages in the same market are advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Both amount to eight hours of teaching. The first costs about AED 100 an hour, the second about AED 200 to 225, and the difference is not teaching quality - it is a car, a driver's time, and a fixed arrival window that cannot flex when a school adds a late revision clinic.

Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, read in October 2026, estimates monthly spend on weekly one-hour sessions at AED 240 to 600 for budget provision, AED 600 to 1,200 for mid-range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those bands are wide because they fold together several different things: who is teaching, how long each session runs, and whether anybody reads the student's written work between sessions.

The table below converts the published hourly bands into monthly commitment at one and two sessions a week, so an Oud Metha family can see the actual size of the decision rather than the headline rate. Figures are market rates published by the providers named, not IB Gram prices.

What the travel premium actually buys, minute by minute

In-home tuition in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor, and the gap is travel. In most of Dubai that premium is easy to understand: a tutor crossing from Mirdif to Arabian Ranches is giving up an hour of their evening to deliver one hour of teaching, and somebody pays for that. In Oud Metha the arithmetic looks different, and families here are right to interrogate it.

The drive from Karama to the Oud Metha school belt is a few minutes outside peak. From Al Mankhool it is shorter. So the obvious conclusion is that an in-home tutor in this district should cost barely more than an online one. In practice the premium holds, for a reason that has nothing to do with distance: the tutor's available pool shrinks to whoever is willing to travel at all, and a scarce pool prices itself. The parent is not paying for nine minutes of driving. They are paying for the small number of qualified people prepared to sell a fixed arrival time in a specific postcode.

There is a second cost that never appears on an invoice. A tutor who has committed to arriving at 5pm in Oud Metha cannot also teach at 5pm in Al Qusais, so the slots available to you are the ones left over after their geography is solved. When a school adds a late mock or a Ramadan timetable shifts the evening, an in-home arrangement is the hardest thing in the week to move. Families in this belt discover that in the fortnight before a series, which is the worst possible fortnight to discover it.

IB Gram does not sell home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Lessons for Oud Metha students run one-to-one over live video, which is what makes a Higher-tier Physics 0625 specialist available to a family whose nine-minute radius contains none. The table sets the two formats against each other on the terms that matter in this district.

The tier decision is worth more than a term of tuition

Before a family in Oud Metha buys a single hour, there is a free decision worth more than most of the hours they are about to purchase: whether the child is entered for Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher. Cambridge tiers many IGCSE subjects, and the tier caps the available grade. Pearson Edexcel tiers Mathematics A 4MA1 into Foundation and Higher on the same principle. A student entered on the lower tier cannot reach the top grades no matter how much tuition is bought, and a student stretched onto the higher tier without the groundwork loses marks across every paper rather than only the hard ones.

This is where tuition money is most often wasted in this belt, and it is wasted invisibly. A family funds a weekly hour for two terms, the child works hard, the grade arrives, and it is the ceiling of the tier they were entered on. Nobody did anything wrong. The decision that governed the outcome was taken in a school office months before the first session, and it was never discussed at home.

The useful purchase here is small and early: one or two diagnostic sessions on a past paper from each tier, to find out which one the student is actually sitting against. That costs a fraction of a term and changes what the term is for. If the student is comfortably clearing Extended questions, the hours should go to technique and timing. If they are not, the hours should go to the specific content gap, and the conversation with the school about tier should happen now rather than in Year 11.

The table sets out what the tier decision actually changes. Confirm your child's tier against the school's entry statement - it is the single most load-bearing fact in the whole budget.

04

The costs around the exam that nobody quotes you

Tuition is the visible cost of an IGCSE year. It is not the only one, and the others arrive on a timetable that a family planning only for hourly rates does not see coming. Exam entry is the first. Where a student sits as a private candidate rather than through their own school, the entry is arranged through an approved examination centre and carries a fee set by that centre, not by the board. Those fees vary by centre and by subject, so the only honest instruction is to ask the centre directly and get the figure in writing before the entry deadline rather than after it.

The second is the resit. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, and Pearson Edexcel runs May/June and November. A subject that goes wrong in June can usually be retaken in November, which means a second entry fee and a concentrated block of tuition in a short window. Families who assume the year ends with the summer results are the ones who meet both costs unplanned. The gap between sitting and receiving results matters too: November 2025 Pearson results reached students on 22 January 2026, so a November resit is not a quick fix if a deadline falls in December.

The third is the one Cambridge itself warns about. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and the board states plainly that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. A tutoring plan built from a timetable PDF found through a search engine rather than from the school's own entry statement is a plan with an avoidable failure mode in it.

A note on one date circulating widely in UAE tutoring content: the Cambridge February/March series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit June and November. Any plan, page or tutor that has your child revising toward a February or March window has the wrong country's calendar, and that is a scheduling error with money attached.

05

How many subjects you are actually paying for

The largest avoidable cost in an IGCSE year is not the hourly rate. It is funding support across more subjects than the next stage requires. Families in Oud Metha routinely spread tuition thinly across seven or eight subjects, and the consequence is predictable: nothing moves far enough to change a grade, and the spend is the same as concentrating it would have been.

The Ministry of Education's equivalency requirements for the British track are specific and publicly stated. A student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among the five required subjects. One competitor page currently ranking for these searches states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; that is not what the published requirement says.

Equivalency is not the same thing as university admission, and neither is a reason to buy tutoring in a subject your child does not need. A UAE or international university sets its own entry requirements, and those requirements name subjects. Working backwards from the two or three subjects that the intended degree route actually names, and funding those properly, buys more than a thin layer across everything. Nothing about tutoring is required for equivalency - it is a documentation process, performed by the authority, not by a tutoring platform.

Verify your own child's position on the Ministry of Education's own channel rather than on any tutoring page, including this one. No IB points threshold for equivalency appears in the sourced material available for this project, so no figure is published here. The table summarises what the British track must show.

Where the hours disappear without buying a grade

  • Re-teaching a topic the student already understands but cannot answer questions on
  • Sessions where nothing is written, timed or marked against the official mark scheme
  • No work on command verbs, where two marks per structured question are routinely lost
  • Spreading a budget across seven subjects instead of concentrating it on the two that matter
  • Booking a pre-series intensive after rates in the market have firmed up
  • Paying for a tutor on a different board's papers than the one the school entered the child for

Four patterns account for most of the tuition money that produces no measurable change in this belt, and all four are diagnosable in a single session. The first is re-teaching. A tutor who explains the topic again, clearly and patiently, is giving the student a second version of the lesson they already sat through. If the student could follow the school's explanation and still cannot answer the question, the gap is not the explanation.

The second is working from notes instead of papers. Revision that consists of reading is comfortable and feels productive, which is exactly why it persists. IGCSE marks are awarded against a mark scheme for a specific question, and the only way to find out whether a student can satisfy one is to put a past paper in front of them under time and mark it honestly against the official scheme. A session that ends without the student having written anything that was marked has produced a pleasant hour and no information.

The third is ignoring the command verb. Describe, explain, calculate, suggest and evaluate each demand a different shape of answer, and a student who writes a description where an explanation was asked for can know the physics perfectly and still score two marks out of four. This is the cheapest thing on the list to fix and the thing least often taught, because it is not content and therefore does not feel like teaching.

The fourth is buying hours in the wrong month. Tuition bought in the eight weeks before a series competes with the school's own mock timetable, the student's coursework deadlines and everybody's fatigue. The same money spent two terms earlier, on diagnosis and technique, does more and costs less per mark. Rates across this market also tend to firm up as a series approaches, so late is expensive twice.

07

Checking that a tutor is legally permitted, and what it adds to the bill

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and this is a question a parent can settle for themselves before paying anybody. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

Two things follow from that, and both are useful when you are comparing quotes. The permit costs the tutor nothing, so no part of an hourly rate is a permit fee being passed on. And individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no amount is quoted here; a figure circulating in UAE tutoring content as a specific dirham penalty could not be verified against any official source.

The permit is a different instrument from the one a tuition business needs. An operation with premises and staff in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds neither a KHDA institute permit nor any regulator's accreditation, and does not describe itself as approved by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Any tutoring page in this search result claiming otherwise is making a claim you should ask it to evidence.

One further rule is worth knowing before you ask a teacher at your child's own school for private lessons. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported and check the current policy document before relying on the exact wording, but do not build a plan around your child's own classroom teacher.

08

What a tutor may and may not do with your child's coursework

IGCSE carries less assessed coursework than the IB Diploma, but where it exists - and across the sciences, where the alternative-to-practical paper tests practical reasoning - the boundary between teaching and producing the work is a line with consequences on the wrong side of it. The same line governs the Diploma work that follows for many students in this belt: the Internal Assessment, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay.

A tutor may teach the technique, explain the assessment criteria, model the method on a different example, question the student's reasoning, and give feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not write any part of it, rewrite it to completion, supply a draft to adapt, or produce the work in any form. IB Gram tutors do not write assessed coursework. That is not a disclaimer; it is the service description, and it is the thing that distinguishes legitimate tuition from several operations ranking for these searches. One of them sells completed Internal Assessments outright at a published dirham price. For the student that is a malpractice finding, and the consequences land on the student.

The same boundary applies to materials. We do not reproduce or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides. Those are published by the boards, your child's school holds the current versions, and a tutor's job is to teach against them rather than to hand them over. If a provider offers a library of mark schemes as a selling point, ask who owns the copyright in it.

Where this becomes a cost question is simple. The hours that buy marks on a coursework component are the hours spent on the student's own reasoning, not on polishing a document somebody else shaped. A parent paying for the second thing is paying for a risk, and the risk is carried entirely by their child.

The mandatory UAE subjects sitting on top of the IGCSE timetable

Any budget built only around IGCSE subjects misses a block of the week that is not optional. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements must be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year starts in April. For a student in Oud Metha on a British curriculum, that is real timetable time competing with IGCSE content.

KHDA is specific about how it runs. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, and the school's licensed-curriculum language applies for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. Schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and KHDA advises that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes. Teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic must hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, which is a credential a parent can reasonably ask a school about. For the mandatory subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited - which constrains what any tutor can legitimately offer in those subjects.

The practical consequence for an Oud Metha family's spend is one of sequencing. Remember that Arabic and Islamic Education do not count toward the five IGCSE subjects MoE equivalency recognises, so they are carried for other reasons and should not be the subjects a stretched tuition budget is spent on. Fund the subjects the next stage names, and treat the mandatory block as timetable pressure to schedule around rather than content to buy support for by default.

Where we tutor

Where our Oud Metha students actually live

Oud Metha sits inside a tight cluster of older Dubai districts where the school run is short and the apartment blocks are dense. Each neighbouring district changes the sums slightly, usually through what an in-home tutor would charge to reach it and what time a session can start.

Oud Metha

The school belt itself, with The Indian High School, St Mary's Catholic High School, Dubai Gem Private School and Dubai English Speaking School within minutes of one another. Short pick-up times mean a 3.30pm or 4pm session is realistic here in a way it is not in outer Dubai.

Karama

Dense, walkable, and the district where the cheapest advertised tuition in Dubai tends to circulate by word of mouth. The AED 45 to 65 an hour band exists here, and it is almost always a university student rather than a subject specialist.

Al Mankhool

Immediately west of Oud Metha across the Al Mankhool Road, feeding Ambassador School and the Bur Dubai schools. Families here frequently compare an in-home visit with online delivery, because the drive genuinely is short and the premium looks harder to justify.

Bur Dubai

The wider historic district, mixed British and Indian curriculum provision, and a high proportion of two-child and three-child households. Shared-sibling scheduling is the main cost lever families here use, and it works better online than in-home.

Al Jaddaf and Dubai Healthcare City

Newer towers and the IB continuum option at Swiss International Scientific School Dubai. Parents working hospital or clinic shifts in Healthcare City often need a session that can move week to week, which rules out most in-home arrangements.

Al Garhoud

Across the creek toward Festival City, with Deira International School and Universal American School within reach. Garhoud traffic between 4pm and 6pm adds real minutes to a journey that looks trivial on a map.

Al Nasr and Za'abeel

Between Oud Metha and the Trade Centre, with a working-parent profile that pushes sessions toward 7pm or later. Evening slots are the ones that tend to carry a surcharge in the in-home market.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

Further out along the Green Line, with Al Ittihad Private School and a large Indian-curriculum cohort. An in-home tutor crossing from Oud Metha to Al Qusais is adding thirty to forty minutes of round-trip travel to the bill.

The Oud Metha and Bur Dubai school belt

These schools sit within a few minutes of one another, which is what makes the area's search for a nearby tutor feel so reasonable. They also run a mix of Cambridge and Pearson entries, which is exactly why the syllabus code matters more than the postcode.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the code, not just the subject

Send the subject and the syllabus code from your child's school entry statement - 0580, 0625, 4MA1 - along with the tier, the school and the series they are entered for. That single message removes most of the ways a match goes wrong, and it costs nothing to send.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson with a subject specialist

A full one-to-one session over live video, at no charge, with a tutor matched to that code. It is a teaching session rather than a sales call, and it is the cheapest reliable test of whether this tutor and this student can work together for a term.

  3. 03

A written diagnosis before a plan

After the trial you get a short list of what is actually costing marks, in priority order, separating content gaps from technique gaps. Families frequently find the plan is shorter than they expected to buy, because technique moves faster than content.

  4. 04

Fix the weekly slot around the school run

Oud Metha's short pick-up times make a 3.30pm or 4pm session genuinely workable, which most Dubai districts cannot hold. Lock the same hour each week; a session that moves around the week is the first one to be dropped when the term tightens.

  5. 05

Review against the school's own marks

Progress is measured against your child's school assessments and mock results, not against a tutor's impression of how sessions are going. If the marks are not moving after a block of sessions, the plan changes or the tutor does.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The prices are on the page

Every dirham band here is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the month it was read. Three of the six competitor pages measured for this project publish no price at all, and the two that do quote United States dollars. A parent cannot assess value against a blank space.

Matched by syllabus code, not by distance

A tutor nine minutes from your building who learned the other board is not a saving. We match on the confirmed code and tier - 0580 Extended, 4MA1 Higher, 0625 Extended - because that is the variable that decides whether the hours convert into marks.

Specialists, not whoever will travel

Online delivery means the pool is every specialist on the right code rather than the small number prepared to drive to Oud Metha at 5pm. For a tiered science or Additional Mathematics 0606, that is the difference between a specialist and a generalist.

Diagnosis before a term is sold

The first useful purchase is finding out what is wrong, which usually takes three or four sessions. We would rather sell a short block that answers the question than a term that postpones it, because a plan built on a guess spends the same money for less.

The coursework boundary stated plainly

Tutors teach, question and give feedback on the student's own work. They do not write Internal Assessments, Extended Essays or any assessed coursework, and we do not supply board papers or mark schemes. Several operations in this search result do otherwise, and the risk falls on the student.

No accreditation we do not hold

IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and has no UAE office. We explain what those bodies do and link their own pages. Ask any provider claiming more to show the permit number.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Oud Metha: your questions answered

What should a family in Oud Metha expect to pay per month for IGCSE tutoring?+

Reckon in months rather than hours. At one session a week, published Dubai rates put a budget online tutor at roughly AED 180 to 600 a month, a qualified subject tutor at AED 600 to 1,200, and an IGCSE specialist at AED 800 to 1,800 or more. The cheapest monthly package found in this market is AED 799 for eight online sessions, which works out near AED 100 an hour. In-home monthly packages are advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Those figures are the providers' own, read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices.

Does living close to the Oud Metha school belt make a tutor cheaper?+

Less than you would expect. The drive from Karama or Al Mankhool to the Oud Metha schools is only a few minutes outside peak, yet in-home rates in Dubai still run AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor. The premium survives because the pool shrinks to whoever is willing to travel at that hour, and a scarce pool prices itself. You are paying for a committed arrival time in one postcode, not for nine minutes of driving. Online delivery removes both the premium and the geography constraint.

Which document tells me the exact IGCSE code and tier we are paying to support?+

Ask the school for the entry statement, which lists the board, the subject code and the tier for every subject. It is the single most useful document in the whole budget and it is free. Cambridge codes look like 0580 for Mathematics, 0625 for Physics and 0620 for Chemistry; Pearson Edexcel codes look like 4MA1 for Mathematics A and 4PH1 for Physics. Do not rely on the subject name alone. The two boards' question styles differ enough that past-paper technique does not transfer cleanly, so paying for the wrong board's papers wastes the whole block.

Can the tier my child is entered for limit the grade, however much tutoring we buy?+

Yes, and this is where tuition money disappears most quietly in this area. Cambridge tiers many IGCSE subjects into Core and Extended; Pearson tiers Mathematics A into Foundation and Higher. The lower tier caps the available grade, so hours spent chasing a grade the tier cannot award produce nothing. One or two diagnostic sessions on past papers from each tier will tell you which one the student is genuinely working at, and that is a conversation to have with the school in Year 10 rather than in the spring of Year 11, when a change is no longer practical.

Is it cheaper to book several subjects with one tutor in Oud Metha?+

Cheaper per hour, often, and weaker per mark. One tutor covering Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry is a generalist by definition, and the subject where your child is furthest behind is the one that needs a specialist on the exact code and tier. A better way to use the same budget is to concentrate it: fund the one or two subjects that the next stage actually names, properly, with a specialist each, and let the school's own provision carry the subjects that are already stable. Spreading a fixed budget thinly is the most common way to spend it without moving a grade.

When is the cheapest time in the year to start IGCSE tutoring?+

Earlier than most families start. Rates across this market tend to firm up as a series approaches, and tuition bought in the final eight weeks competes with the school's mock timetable, coursework deadlines and general fatigue. The same money spent two terms earlier buys diagnosis and technique work, which moves marks faster per hour than late content cramming. If your child is in Year 10 now, a short diagnostic block this term is the cheapest useful purchase available and usually shortens the plan you end up buying.

How much does it cost to enter an IGCSE exam as a private candidate in Dubai?+

The fee is set by the approved examination centre rather than by Cambridge or Pearson, so it varies by centre and by subject and no single figure can honestly be quoted here. Contact centres directly, ask for the per-subject fee in writing, and get it before the entry deadline rather than after. Budget for the possibility of a second entry too: a subject that goes wrong in the June series can usually be retaken in November, which means a second fee and a concentrated block of tuition in a short window.

Which exam series do IGCSE students in the UAE actually sit?+

June and November. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. The February/March series that appears in a lot of tutoring content is offered to India only, so any revision plan pointing a UAE student at a February or March window is using the wrong country's calendar. Confirm against your school's entry statement and the board's live timetable.

Why does Cambridge ask which administrative zone our centre is in?+

Because the timetable differs by zone. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. For a family in Oud Metha this means the authoritative dates come from the school's own entry statement and the board's live timetable, not from a PDF found through a search engine. A tutoring schedule built on the wrong zone's timetable has an avoidable failure built into it.

Are we funding more IGCSE subjects than the equivalency rule counts?+

Five. The published requirement on the British track is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among the five. One competitor page ranking for these searches states six subjects are required, which does not match the published rule. Verify your child's own position through the Ministry of Education's channel, and note that tutoring is not required for equivalency at all.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit, and does it add to the hourly rate?+

They need one, and it adds nothing. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. So no part of any quoted rate is a permit fee being recovered. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you either.

Can we ask a teacher from my child's own school to tutor privately?+

That is the one arrangement to avoid. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat the detail as press-reported and check the current policy document before relying on the wording, but do not build a plan around your child's classroom teacher. A specialist on the same syllabus code, with no conflict of interest and no stake in the school's own grades, is a cleaner arrangement.

Will an online session really work for a fourteen-year-old who fidgets?+

It depends far less on age than on what the hour contains. A session where the student watches an explanation will lose any fourteen-year-old, online or in a kitchen. A session where they are writing answers to past-paper questions under time, with the work screen-shared and marked as they go, holds attention because they are the one doing the work. Shorter, more frequent slots help, and so does a fixed hour in the week. Start with the free trial lesson, which is a real teaching session, and judge this child rather than the format.

Does Arabic or Islamic Education eat into the week we are planning around?+

Yes, and it is worth mapping before you buy hours. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with KHDA's requirements due from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, and KHDA advises any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes. Those periods compete with IGCSE content for timetable space. Since they are excluded from the five-subject equivalency count, treat them as scheduling pressure rather than as subjects to fund support in by default.

What happens if no specialist on our exact syllabus code is free?+

We say so, rather than putting a generalist in the slot and charging for it. For a common combination such as Mathematics 0580 Extended or Physics 0625, a match is usually straightforward. For narrower entries the wait can run longer, and the honest options are to wait for the right tutor, to start with a related specialist on a stated interim basis, or to not book at all. Tutoring for UAE families is delivered online, so the pool is every specialist on that code rather than the few willing to travel to Oud Metha, which is why the gaps are narrower than they would otherwise be.

Can you supply past papers, mark schemes or grade boundaries with the sessions?+

No, and no provider should. Those documents are published and owned by Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, and reproducing or redistributing them is copyright infringement. Your child's school holds the current versions and the boards publish what is available openly. A tutor's work is to teach against a mark scheme, show how marks are allocated in a specific question, and mark the student's own written answers honestly against it. If a provider advertises a downloadable library of board material as a selling point, ask who owns the copyright in it.

Start with the entry statement, then the free trial

Two things cost nothing and decide most of what follows. Ask your child's school for the entry statement, so you know the board, the code and the tier you are actually buying support for. Then take the free trial lesson with a specialist matched to that code, and treat it as a teaching session rather than a sales call. What you should have at the end is a short written list of what is costing marks, separated into content and technique, and a plan whose length is set by that list rather than by a package. Sessions run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time around the Oud Metha school run. Every dirham figure on this page belongs to the provider that published it.
