IB MYP Tutor in Oud Metha

Hiring an IB MYP tutor in Oud Metha is hard to budget for because the report card does not tell you what is wrong. A grade 5 in Sciences is four separate criterion marks out of eight, and a family cannot see which one is dragging. This page breaks the spend down by criterion rather than by subject, publishes the Dubai AED bands with their sources, and explains how IB Gram teaches the Middle Years Programme one-to-one over live video.

  • Spend allocated by criterion, not by subject name
  • AED market bands published with the provider that set them
  • Personal Project support is coaching on the student's own work

IB & IGCSE in Oud Metha

Why MYP tuition is hard to budget and easy to waste

In most curricula a parent can read a report and see the problem. A percentage is low, a topic is named, a tutor is hired for that topic. The Middle Years Programme does not work that way. Each subject is assessed against four criteria, each marked out of eight, and the four are added to produce a raw total out of thirty-two which the school converts to a grade from one to seven. A family sees the grade. The four marks underneath it are where the money should go, and they are usually not on the page you were sent.

This creates a specific and expensive pattern across Oud Metha and Bur Dubai. A Year 9 student comes home with a 4 in Sciences. The family hires a science tutor, who teaches science content, because that is what the request said. Four months and perhaps AED 4,000 later the grade is still a 4, because the content was never the problem: the student scored well on knowing and understanding and badly on inquiring and designing, which is a method skill nobody addressed. Nothing dishonest happened. The brief was wrong.

So the right first question is not how much does an MYP tutor cost. It is which criterion is low. Ask the school for the criterion marks behind each subject grade, by email if the report does not carry them. Teachers hold them, they are not confidential, and with them in hand a family can buy four sessions on one specific weakness rather than a term of general subject support. That request costs nothing and it is the largest single saving available on this page.

The Dubai market rates matter too, and they are published here with attribution. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted across the city at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour as of October 2026. The same tutor travelling to an apartment is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate's 2026 rate table, with independent home tutors advertising up to AED 500. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE; lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service offered only in India. For an MYP family the online format also widens the pool, which matters because MYP specialists are rarer than subject graduates.

What follows is a cost page built around the criteria. It sets out what each of the four assesses and which one moves a grade fastest, explains why an MYP grade is not a percentage and what that does to a family's reading of progress, prices the Dubai market cheapest first, maps the MYP5 to Diploma transition subject by subject, states exactly what a tutor may and may not do with a Personal Project, and sets the whole budget against the KHDA fee position for 2026-27. Every figure carries its source.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The Middle Years Programme is not one stage. The first three years and the last two behave differently, the Personal Project arrives at the end, and the Diploma waits behind it. Budget each separately, because what is useful in MYP2 is not what is useful in MYP5.

MYP 1-3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Middle Years Programme, years one to three

Eight subject groups taught concurrently, assessed against four criteria each, with interdisciplinary units linking them. Grades move a lot in these years and most of the movement is in the two method criteria rather than in knowledge. This is the cheapest stage at which to intervene and the stage at which almost nobody does, because nothing visible is at stake yet.

In the Bur Dubai belt, MYP provision sits mainly in Al Jaddaf and across the Creek rather than inside Oud Metha itself, so families here are usually commuting to it. That makes a weekday session awkward by car and easy over video. Four sessions on one weak criterion in MYP2, at the AED 150 to 300 band, is a smaller commitment than a term of anything bought later.

MYP 4-5Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Middle Years Programme, years four and five

Subject choice narrows slightly, the work lengthens, and criterion descriptors become noticeably harsher at the top bands. MYP5 carries the Personal Project alongside everything else. Students who have never been taught to write a reflection against a descriptor lose marks here in every subject at once, which is why a single piece of technique work pays across the whole report.

MYP5 is when most Oud Metha families actually buy tuition, and it is the most expensive moment to start. The Diploma subject-choice conversation lands at the same time as the Personal Project and the hardest descriptors of the five years. Families who bought four sessions in MYP3 typically spend less in total across the whole programme than families who begin in MYP5.

eAAge 16 · End of Year 11

MYP eAssessment and the MYP Certificate

Some schools enter MYP5 students for the IB's on-screen examinations and ePortfolios, leading to the MYP Certificate. Many do not, and award school-based results instead. The difference changes how the final year should be prepared, because an on-screen examination rewards timed performance while a portfolio rewards sustained drafting.

Ask your child's school directly whether it enters students for eAssessment, because it is a school-level decision and it is rarely explained in a prospectus. Do not plan a revision schedule around an examination your child may not sit, and confirm any assessment date with the school's MYP coordinator rather than from a page online, including this one.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme, the stage behind it

The Diploma assesses by examination and internal assessment rather than by criterion across every unit, so a student who has coasted on strong knowledge criteria meets a wall. The skills the Diploma assumes, experimental design, structured extended writing and independent drafting, are precisely the MYP method criteria that families tend not to buy support for.

Diploma provision reachable from Oud Metha sits mainly in Al Jaddaf and Dubai Festival City. If the Diploma is the plan, the transition cost is paid either in MYP4 at a low rate or in DP1 at exam-season intensity. The table later on this page maps it subject by subject so the decision can be made with numbers rather than hope.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

An MYP student carries eight subject groups at once, which is what makes the budgeting hard. These are the groups we teach, written as what each one's criteria actually reward rather than as a topic list.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5

Analysing texts, producing texts, using language, and the organisation of an argument. Marks are lost in organisation far more often than in analysis: students who see the point of a text and cannot structure a paragraph about it score in the middle bands repeatedly.

Language Acquisition

Phases 1-6

Assessed in listening, reading, speaking and writing, and placed in a phase rather than a year group. A student in the wrong phase looks weak when they are misplaced, which is worth checking with the school before paying for anything.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5

Knowing, investigating, communicating and thinking critically. The investigating criterion is where the marks sit and where the teaching is thinnest: students are asked to frame a research question and are rarely shown how one is built.

Sciences

MYP 1-5

Knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, reflecting on the impacts of science. Inquiring and designing is the criterion that decides most Sciences grades, and it is the one that transfers directly into Diploma internal assessment work.

Mathematics

Standard and Extended

Knowing, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-world contexts. Investigating patterns is where confident calculators lose marks, because it asks for a generalisation and a justification rather than an answer.

Design

MYP 1-5

Inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution, evaluating. The least understood group by parents and the easiest criterion gains available, because most of the marks are in documented process rather than in the finished object.

Arts

MYP 1-5

Knowing and understanding, developing skills, thinking creatively, responding. Students who perform or make well and keep no process journal are scoring two criteria out of four, which reads as a lack of talent and is not.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5

Includes a planning-for-performance criterion and a reflecting criterion, both written. A physically able student with no written reflection sits in the middle bands, which surprises families more than any other grade on the report.

Interdisciplinary units

MYP 1-5

Assessed with their own criteria, including evaluating the interdisciplinary synthesis. Often the lowest marks on a report because no single subject teacher owns the skill, and therefore one of the quickest things a tutor can address.

Personal Project

MYP 5

Planning, applying skills, reflecting, assessed on the process journal and the report rather than the product. Support here is coaching and feedback on the student's own work; no tutor may write, draft or produce any part of it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, chosen by what the criterion marks say rather than by what fills a calendar. All are delivered live over video on Gulf Standard Time.

Single-criterion blocks

Four to six sessions aimed at one named criterion in one subject group, such as inquiring and designing in Sciences or investigating patterns in Mathematics. The shortest and cheapest useful purchase in the MYP, and the one most families should start with once they have the criterion marks in hand.

  • Criterion named in the booking, not the subject
  • Student's own marked work used as the starting point
  • Descriptor language taught explicitly, band by band
  • Ends after the agreed number of sessions

Weekly one-to-one in one subject group

A standing weekly slot where a subject is genuinely behind across several criteria rather than one. The market band for a qualified subject tutor working online is roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing from AED 200 for IB. This is the right purchase less often than it is made.

  • A written target reviewed every four sessions
  • Work drawn from the school's own unit, not a parallel course
  • One recurring weekday slot, usually 4.30pm to 7pm
  • A stated review point rather than an open-ended arrangement

Personal Project and transition coaching

Scheduled sessions through MYP5, covering the Personal Project process and the move into Diploma subjects. The project is the student's own throughout: the tutor asks questions, challenges the goal and criteria, and gives written feedback on drafts the student has written.

  • Goal and success criteria interrogated before work starts
  • Process journal habits established early, not reconstructed late
  • Feedback on the student's own draft; no text supplied
  • Diploma subject choice discussed against real criterion evidence

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Oud Metha

01

What MYP support costs in Oud Metha, cheapest option first

The least expensive useful thing a parent in Oud Metha can do costs nothing: email the subject teacher and ask for the four criterion marks behind the grade. With those in hand, a family can often buy four sessions rather than a term. At the qualified online band of AED 150 to 300 an hour that is somewhere between AED 600 and AED 1,200, against roughly AED 2,400 to 4,800 for a full term of weekly support. The information is free and it changes the size of the purchase.

If paid support is needed, the Dubai market runs in clear tiers. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, at the budget online end, usually delivered by university students. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing from AED 200 for IB. Specialist IB support is quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium named tutors reach AED 650, as BartyED publishes. In-home one-to-one is AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table, with independent home tutors advertising up to AED 500.

For the MYP specifically, the tier that matters is the middle one, and the reason is not prestige. Criterion-referenced assessment has its own vocabulary, and a tutor who has not taught against MYP descriptors will teach content well and leave the criterion where it was. That is not a budget-tier failing, it is a familiarity one, and it is the specific thing to ask about. None of the figures above is an IB Gram rate; our pricing follows a free trial lesson used as a criterion diagnostic.

The four criteria, and which one moves a grade fastest

Every MYP subject group is assessed against four criteria, labelled A to D, each marked out of eight. The labels differ by subject but the pattern does not: one criterion rewards knowledge, one rewards investigation or planning, one rewards communication or application, and one rewards reflection or evaluation. The four raw marks add to a total out of thirty-two, which the school converts to a grade from one to seven.

The practical consequence is that two students with the same grade can need completely different help. A student scoring seven, three, six, three has a method problem. A student scoring three, six, four, six has a knowledge problem. Hiring a subject tutor helps the second student and does almost nothing for the first, and the first pattern is the more common one in Oud Metha because local tutoring supply is content-strong and criterion-weak.

If the marks are unavailable, the reliable guess is the reflection criterion. It is written, it is last in every unit, it is the one students run out of time for, and it is marked against descriptors that reward specificity about their own work rather than general enthusiasm. Teaching a student to write a reflection that names what they changed and why is perhaps two sessions. It lifts marks in several subject groups at once, which makes it the best value intervention in the entire programme. Ask the school for the four criterion marks per subject rather than the single reported grade, because the grade hides the pattern and the pattern is the only thing a tutor can act on.

03

Why an MYP grade 5 is not seventy-one per cent

Families arriving from a percentage-based system read MYP grades wrongly, and it costs them money in both directions. The grade is not a proportion of a possible score. It is a band, produced by adding four criterion marks and applying the school's conversion. That means a one-mark gain on a single criterion can move a grade, and a four-mark gain spread thinly across all four can move nothing at all. Buying general improvement is therefore a poor strategy; buying one criterion is a good one.

It also means progress looks flat when it is not. A student who goes from two to four on the investigation criterion while the other three hold has made real progress and the reported grade may be unchanged. Parents who cannot see criterion marks interpret that as tuition failing and stop, often one unit before the grade would have moved. This is the most common way MYP tuition is abandoned at exactly the wrong moment in this part of Dubai.

Do not accept a boundary table from a tutor, from a forum or from this page. Conversion boundaries are set within the framework the IB publishes and applied by the school, and the only authoritative version is your child's school's. Ask the MYP coordinator how the conversion works at that school and ask for the criterion marks each reporting cycle. Two emails a year give a family better information than any amount of paid diagnosis.

04

The reflection criterion: two sessions, several subjects

  • Use the student's own marked work, never a generic exercise
  • Replace feeling words with evidence sentences, line by line
  • Three pieces from three subject groups, not three from one
  • Expect movement within a month; expect the grade to lag the marks
  • Ask the school for criterion marks again after the next reporting cycle

Reflection is the most consistently underscored criterion in the Middle Years Programme and the least taught. Students are asked to evaluate their own work and they write what they feel: it went well, I enjoyed it, next time I will try harder. The descriptors reward something narrower, which is specific, evidenced statements about the work itself and about what would be done differently and why.

The teaching is unglamorous and quick. Take the student's own marked piece. Find the sentence where they said the task went well. Ask what the evidence for that was, and write the answer. Ask what they would change, and then ask what would happen if they changed it. Repeat across three pieces from three different subjects. Most students move bands on this criterion in under a month, and the gain appears in Sciences, Design, Arts, Physical and Health Education and the interdisciplinary units simultaneously.

This is also where the economics of MYP tuition are clearest. A parent in Karama or Al Mankhool who buys six AED 200 sessions aimed at reflection across three subject groups has spent AED 1,200 and bought movement on perhaps five criterion marks. The same AED 1,200 spent on general Sciences content buys six lessons on material the student mostly has. The difference is not the tutor's quality. It is what the sessions were pointed at. Ask for the criterion marks before and after, on the same subjects, so the change is visible rather than asserted by whoever sold the sessions.

05

The Personal Project: what a tutor may and may not do

The Personal Project arrives in MYP5 and is assessed on the process journal and the report rather than on the object the student produces. That surprises families, and it is the single most important thing to understand before paying for support. A beautiful finished product with a thin journal scores badly. A modest product with a rigorous, honest, well-evidenced journal scores well.

What a tutor may legitimately do is considerable. The goal can be interrogated before any work starts, which is where most weak projects are saved, because an unachievable or unmeasurable goal produces a report that cannot evidence anything. The success criteria can be challenged for specificity. Journal habits can be established in week one rather than reconstructed in week twelve. The student's own draft report can be read and returned with written feedback naming what a descriptor asks for and where the draft does not answer it.

What a tutor must never do is write, draft, edit to completion or produce any part of the project or the report. The student declares the work as their own. A breach falls on the student's record, and IB academic-honesty rules treat it seriously. IB Gram does not write, complete or supply assessed work in any subject or at any level. One operator found during research for this project sells completed internal assessments outright at AED 3,750; that is not a cheaper form of tutoring, it is a malpractice risk a family should not buy at any price.

06

MYP5 into the Diploma: the gap, costed

The transition is where MYP underspending becomes visible. The Diploma assesses by examination and by internal assessment, and it assumes skills the MYP method criteria were building. A student with strong knowledge criteria and weak investigation criteria arrives in DP1 able to learn content and unable to design an investigation, which is exactly what the Diploma sciences ask for in a component worth a fifth of the grade.

The repair costs the same work whenever it is done, but not the same money. Done in MYP4 at a qualified online rate of AED 150 to 300 an hour, across a planned handful of sessions, it is a few hundred dirhams per subject. Done in DP1 it competes with content teaching for the same hours. Done in DP2 it is bought at specialist exam-season intensity, where Bestimate estimates AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more a month for an exam-year student, and it is bought in the weeks when nothing else can be dropped.

The table below maps the common moves subject by subject with a realistic number of weeks for each. Use it to decide which gap to close before Year 12 and which to leave. Not every gap needs closing in advance: a student heading for Diploma Language and Literature who writes well does not need a transition block, while the same student taking Sciences at Higher Level almost certainly does. Decide this in Year 10 rather than in the Diploma year, when every hour already has a claim on it and the cheapest version of the repair is no longer available.

Mandatory UAE subjects inside an MYP timetable

An MYP student in Dubai carries eight subject groups and also carries the subjects every Dubai private school must teach regardless of its licensed curriculum: Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies. KHDA's mandatory-subjects guidance states these requirements must be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, with April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. On an already full MYP timetable this is the pressure nobody budgets for.

The rules are precise and worth knowing before arranging anything. KHDA requires separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with the school's licensed-curriculum language applying for non-Arabs. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, and KHDA advises that no mandatory-subject lesson runs shorter than twenty-five minutes.

Two things follow for a family in Oud Metha. Schools must ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects, which is something a parent may simply ask about. And for the mandatory subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited, so Arabic support has to work alongside the school's own material rather than substitute a parallel course. Budget it separately from MYP subject support; the two needs rarely share a tutor and should not share a line in the household budget.

08

The MYP budget in context for a Bur Dubai household

Tutoring is one line in a larger education spend and should be read against the others. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family planning five years of MYP, that is a fixed point to plan around, and it is the right anchor for any conversation about what tuition is worth.

The supply side is moving too. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places; six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose six per cent. More IB provision in the emirate means more MYP cohorts and, over time, more teachers who have marked against these criteria. It does not yet mean more of them live within a short drive of Oud Metha, which is why the online format remains the practical answer here.

Put together, the sensible MYP budget is small, specific and front-loaded. A handful of criterion-targeted sessions in MYP2 and MYP3, one transition block in MYP4 for the subjects that need it, and scheduled Personal Project coaching in MYP5. Compared with a standing weekly slot held for five years, it is a fraction of the spend, and it is pointed at the marks that actually convert. The table sets the pieces out so a family can see the total before committing to any of it.

Where we tutor

Where MYP families in this belt actually live

MYP provision near Oud Metha is concentrated in a few schools rather than spread across the belt, so families here commute to it from several directions. That commute is what sets a realistic session time.

Oud Metha

Apartments either side of Oud Metha Road, with Red Line stations at Oud Metha and Dubai Healthcare City. MYP students here are usually travelling to Al Jaddaf or over the Creek, so a session from 5pm onwards is the comfortable booking.

Al Jaddaf

The closest MYP provision to Oud Metha, minutes away along Oud Metha Road, with a full IB continuum school on site. Families here have the shortest run in the belt and can realistically start a session at 4.30pm.

Al Mankhool

West across Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road, served by Al Fahidi and ADCB stations. Predominantly British and Indian curriculum, so MYP requests from this postcode are often from families who have recently transferred in.

Karama

The tightest streets and the shortest school runs in the belt. MYP families here tend to be the most price-conscious, which is exactly why the criterion-first approach on this page saves them the most.

Bur Dubai

The Creek-side historic core. Transfers into the MYP from Indian-curriculum schooling are more common here than anywhere nearby, and the first term of an MYP transfer is mostly a vocabulary problem rather than a content one.

Al Garhoud

Beside the airport, across the Creek, and the approach road to Festival City schooling. Al Garhoud Bridge decides the evening: a 3.15pm pickup can be home by 3.45pm or by 4.30pm, so 5.30pm is the safer slot.

Al Qusais

Out along the Green Line, with a long inbound commute to the IB provision in this belt. Weekday sessions have to be late, which is simple over video and unreliable for anybody driving between appointments.

Al Mamzar

Coastal and quiet near the Sharjah border. MYP cohorts reachable from here are small, so a tutor who knows a specific subject group's criteria well is scarce locally and easy to find online.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school for the criterion marks first

One email to each subject teacher asking for the four criterion marks behind the grade. It costs nothing, teachers hold the marks, and it usually converts a term-long purchase into a four-session one. Start here before contacting any tutor, including us.

  2. 02

Send the subject group, the MYP year and the weak criterion

A request that says MYP4 Sciences, criterion B at three out of eight, is matched quickly and precisely. A request that says needs help with science takes longer and often produces a content tutor for a method problem, which is the commonest waste in this programme.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson used as a criterion diagnostic

The tutor works through a piece of the student's own marked work against the descriptors and reports which band the writing actually sits in and why. If the match is wrong you say so and nothing is owed. One trial lesson per student.

  4. 04

A short block with a criterion target

You receive the number of sessions, the criterion, and what the block should change, in writing. Blocks end on a stated date. An open-ended weekly slot across five MYP years is the most expensive way to buy support and the hardest to judge.

  5. 05

Re-check after the next reporting cycle

Criterion marks move before grades do, so judge the block on the marks rather than on the reported grade. If the marks moved and the grade did not, that is progress and the honest advice may be to stop and look again next cycle.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We buy criteria, not subjects

Sessions are pointed at a named criterion in a named subject group, because that is what converts into a grade. Buying general subject improvement in a criterion-referenced programme is how Oud Metha families spend a term and see an unchanged number.

Every AED band on this page names the provider that published it and the month it was read. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this project publish no price at all, and one asks the price in its own FAQ and declines to answer.

MYP familiarity stated plainly

Criterion-referenced marking has its own vocabulary, and a tutor who has not taught against MYP descriptors will teach content well and leave the band where it was. Ask any tutor which subject group's criteria they have marked against. We expect that question.

The Personal Project line is not blurred

A tutor interrogates the goal, challenges the criteria and gives feedback on the student's own drafts. IB Gram does not write, draft or produce any part of a Personal Project or any other assessed work, in any subject.

Honest about availability

If no tutor familiar with your child's subject group is free in the window you need, we say so and say when one will be, rather than filling the slot. No competitor page researched for this project discloses a coverage limit at all.

No claims of approval we do not hold

IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or the IB, and claims none of it. This page explains what each body governs and points to its own pages so a family can verify things directly.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Oud Metha: your questions answered

What does an IB MYP tutor cost in Oud Metha?+

Dubai market rates, reviewed October 2026, run from AED 33 to 52 an hour at Tutopiya's budget online tier and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik's, usually delivered by university students. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing from AED 200 for IB. Specialist IB support runs AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. In-home one-to-one is AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's 2026 table. Those are other providers' published figures. IB Gram sets pricing after a free trial lesson used as a criterion diagnostic, because an hourly quote given before anyone has seen the marks is a guess.

Why can't I tell from the report card what my child needs?+

Because the grade is a conversion rather than a score. Each MYP subject is assessed against four criteria, each marked out of eight, and the raw total out of thirty-two is converted by the school to a grade from one to seven. Two students with the same grade can have opposite problems: one strong on knowledge and weak on investigation, the other the reverse. The four marks are the useful information and most reports do not show them. Email the subject teacher and ask. The marks are not confidential, the request costs nothing, and it usually shrinks the purchase considerably.

Which MYP criterion is the best value to work on?+

The reflection or evaluation criterion, in almost every case. It is written, it comes last in every unit, it is the one students run out of time for, and its descriptors reward specific evidenced statements about their own work rather than general enthusiasm. Teaching a student to name what they changed and why, using their own marked pieces, is roughly two sessions of work. The gain then appears across Sciences, Design, Arts, Physical and Health Education and the interdisciplinary units at the same time, which no content teaching can match for cost per mark moved.

My child's MYP grade has not moved after a term of tutoring. Was it wasted?+

Possibly not, and the way to tell is to look at criterion marks rather than the grade. Because four marks out of eight are added and then converted, a student can gain two marks on one criterion and see no change in the reported grade. Families who cannot see the criterion marks often read that as failure and stop one unit before the grade would have moved. Ask for the marks from before and after. If no criterion moved, the sessions were pointed at the wrong thing, and the fix is to re-aim rather than to spend more.

Is it worth starting MYP tutoring in Year 7 or waiting?+

Early is cheaper and later is more common. In MYP1 to MYP3 nothing visible is at stake, so almost nobody buys support, and that is exactly when four sessions on a weak method criterion cost least and have most time to compound. By MYP5 the Personal Project, the hardest descriptors of the five years and the Diploma subject-choice conversation all arrive together, and support bought then competes with everything else for the same evenings. If you have criterion marks showing a weak method criterion in Year 8, act then.

How much Personal Project help is allowed before it breaks the rules?+

There is a firm boundary and it is worth knowing before work starts. A tutor can interrogate the goal, challenge the success criteria for specificity, establish process journal habits in week one, and give written feedback on drafts the student has written. What a tutor must never do is write, draft, edit to completion or produce any part of the project or report. The student declares the work as their own and a breach falls on their record. Remember too that the project is assessed on the journal and report rather than the finished object, so a thin journal behind a polished product scores badly.

Does the MYP Mathematics Extended route matter for Higher Level later?+

It matters downstream rather than immediately. Extended covers additional content and is intended for students likely to take mathematics further, including at Higher Level in the Diploma, while Standard covers the core. The choice is usually made by the school in MYP4 on the basis of prior performance. If Higher Level mathematics is a realistic plan, ask what evidence the school uses for the Extended decision and gather it deliberately rather than hoping. Three weeks of Extended-level problems marked honestly tells a family more than a predicted grade does.

How does the MYP prepare a student for Diploma internal assessments?+

Through the method criteria, which is why they matter more than their visibility suggests. Inquiring and designing in Sciences is the direct ancestor of the Diploma scientific investigation; investigating in Individuals and Societies becomes source evaluation and a structured internal assessment; investigating patterns in Mathematics becomes the exploration. A student with strong knowledge criteria and weak method criteria can learn Diploma content and still be unable to design an investigation worth a fifth of a grade. That gap takes four to six weeks to close, and it is far cheaper closed in MYP4 than in DP2.

Does my child sit MYP examinations at the end of Year 11?+

That depends on the school. Some schools enter MYP5 students for the IB's on-screen examinations and ePortfolios, leading to the MYP Certificate, while others award school-based results instead. It is a school-level decision and it is rarely explained in a prospectus, so ask the MYP coordinator directly. The answer changes how the final year should be prepared, because an on-screen examination rewards timed performance while a portfolio rewards sustained drafting. Do not plan a revision schedule around an assessment your child may not be entered for.

Which schools near Oud Metha run the MYP?+

Swiss International Scientific School in Al Jaddaf, minutes from Oud Metha along Oud Metha Road, runs a full IB continuum including the MYP. Across the Creek, Deira International School and Universal American School in Dubai Festival City sit within reach via Al Garhoud Bridge, and GEMS Modern Academy and Hartland International School are reachable down Al Ain Road. Within Oud Metha and Bur Dubai itself the provision is largely British and Indian curriculum. Check the current KHDA inspection report and the school's own programme listing before assuming the MYP runs at any given campus.

Is online tutoring suitable for a Year 7 or Year 8 student?+

For criterion work, yes, and often better than the alternative. The work is written and the errors appear on a shared screen the moment they happen: a method with no control variable, a reflection with no evidence, a graph with an awkward scale. For a very young student who needs physical supervision to stay at a desk, in-home support has a real advantage, and the market price for that is AED 180 to 350 an hour in Bestimate's 2026 table. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; all lessons are one-to-one over live video, with home visits available only in India.

How do Arabic and Islamic Education fit around eight MYP subject groups?+

They sit on top of them. Every Dubai private school teaches Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies regardless of its licensed curriculum, and KHDA's guidance required implementation by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, with April 2026 for April-start schools. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit and KHDA advises no mandatory-subject lesson runs under twenty-five minutes. Schools must also organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. Budget Arabic support as a separate line; it rarely shares a tutor with MYP subjects.

Are school fees in Dubai rising while we plan this?+

Not for 2026-27. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Supply is also expanding: Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 with enrolment up six per cent. For a family planning five MYP years, that is a stable base against which to size a tutoring budget.

What if no tutor familiar with my child's subject group is free?+

We tell you, and we tell you when one will be. Filling the slot with somebody who knows the subject but has never marked against MYP descriptors is the quiet failure here, because the content will be taught well and the criterion will not move. No competitor page researched for this project discloses a coverage limit at all. If your window cannot be covered, the options are to shift the slot, to start with the reflection work that any strong teacher can deliver, or to wait. We will say which applies.

Do you provide MYP unit plans, descriptors or past assessments?+

No. IB subject guides, descriptors, assessment materials and grade-conversion documents are copyright material, and reproducing or distributing them is infringement. A tutor works from material the student legitimately holds through their school, cites the official source and links to it: ibo.org for the programme framework, and your child's MYP coordinator for the school's own descriptors and conversion practice. The coordinator is also the right person to ask how criterion marks convert to grades at that school, because the school's version is the only authoritative one.

Get the criterion marks, then spend small

Start with the free email rather than the free trial. Ask each subject teacher for the four criterion marks behind the grade, and look for the pattern: strong knowledge and weak method, or the reverse. Then book the trial lesson and let the tutor work through a piece of your child's own marked work against the descriptors. Buy a short block aimed at one criterion, with a stated number of sessions and an end date, and judge it on the marks rather than on the reported grade. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, timed around the Bur Dubai school run, with post-Iftar slots available during Ramadan.
