IB Physics Tutor in Oud Metha

An IB physics tutor in Oud Metha is working alongside something no tutor can replace: a school laboratory and a double period that only exists inside the timetable. Diploma Physics students in this belt do their practical work at school, in the day, and then carry the theory, the mathematics and the investigation home into an evening that is already full. This page is about dividing that properly. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • The hour aimed at theory and mathematics, not at replacing the laboratory
  • Higher and Standard Level planned as genuinely different loads
  • Investigation coaching that stays inside IB academic-honesty rules
  • A slot chosen around double-period science days and school clinics

IB & IGCSE in Oud Metha

The physics that only happens at school, and the hour that handles the rest

Diploma Physics is the subject where the school and a private tutor have the clearest division of labour, and where families most often blur it. The laboratory is the school's. The equipment, the double period, the supervision and the data your child collects with their own hands all live inside the timetable, and nothing bought outside it substitutes for that. What a tutor outside school can do is everything else: the theory, the mathematical handling, the structure of a long-answer response, and the process of turning a practical idea into an investigation that satisfies the criteria.

That division matters more in this belt than elsewhere because of where the Diploma schools sit. The schools on the Oud Metha Road mostly run to sixteen, so a local Physics student has usually moved campus - to Al Jaddaf, across the creek toward Festival City, or out to Nad Al Sheba. Their day is longer than their younger siblings' and their journey home is longer too. By the time they are back in Karama or Al Mankhool, the practical work is behind them and what remains is the hardest part of the subject to do alone.

The second feature of a Physics week is the double period. Science timetables cluster, so most Diploma Physics students have one or two days where science dominates and other days where it barely appears. Those heavy days are the worst possible evenings for a Physics session: the student is saturated. The light days are the best, because the subject gets refreshed in a week where it would otherwise go quiet for four days. Almost nobody books on this basis, because the family does not have the timetable in front of them when they choose a slot.

Then there is the mathematics, which is the real reason most Diploma Physics students stall. Physics Higher Level assumes algebraic rearrangement, graph interpretation, proportional reasoning and - depending on the topic - a comfort with trigonometry and with small-angle thinking that a student on Applications and Interpretation Standard Level has not necessarily been taught. The physics is not the problem. The student can describe the mechanism and then cannot execute it, and a term of physics teaching will not fix a mathematics gap.

Finally, Dubai's own timetable constraint. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with KHDA calculating instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit. Those periods are inside the day, competing with six Diploma subjects, a laboratory requirement, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. The week is tighter than the subject list suggests, and a Physics plan that assumes open evenings is planning for a week that does not exist.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics appears in four forms across the schools reachable from Oud Metha, and each form assesses it differently. What a tutor should be doing changes with the form, not just with the student.

IB Diploma Programme Physics

Taken at Higher or Standard Level as one of the six Diploma subjects, with written papers plus an internally assessed scientific investigation of the student's own design. Higher Level carries additional content and an additional paper, and the step from Standard to Higher is one of the largest in the Diploma science group. The investigation is written at home over weeks against published criteria.

The nearest Diploma provision to Oud Metha sits in Al Jaddaf, across the creek toward Festival City, and out toward Nad Al Sheba, so a Physics student from this belt is usually commuting. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds three new IB schools among seven new private schools, creating 16,846 places in total, which is gradually shortening those journeys for families here.

IB Middle Years Programme Sciences

Science is taught as an integrated subject group and assessed against four criteria on a 1-8 scale rather than by terminal papers. Criterion B inquiring and designing and Criterion C processing and evaluating are the direct ancestors of the Diploma investigation, which makes MYP the cheapest place to learn investigation skills properly.

Where a student continues from MYP into Diploma Physics at the same school in Al Jaddaf, the investigation skills usually transfer well and the content step is the harder part. Where a student arrives into Diploma Physics from an IGCSE background instead, the opposite is true: the content feels familiar and the investigation is unfamiliar territory.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics

The route most students in the Oud Metha school belt take before sixteen, tiered Core and Extended, with practical skills examined either through a practical paper or through the alternative-to-practical paper depending on the centre. Electricity and electromagnetism are the topics where UAE candidates most reliably lose structured-question marks.

A student entering Diploma Physics from 0625 Core rather than Extended has a real content gap, and it shows in the October of Diploma year one rather than earlier. Closing it in the summer before Year 12 costs a short block; discovering it in the first set of Diploma assessments costs a term.

4PH1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics

The other pre-sixteen route sat in Dubai, with its own paper structure and question style. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year, and the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026 with results reaching students in January.

Because schools in this belt split entries between Cambridge and Pearson, two Diploma Physics students sitting beside each other in Year 12 can have arrived with meaningfully different preparation. A tutor's first job is to establish which one, rather than assuming a common starting point from a grade.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics support is not one thing. These are the specific pieces a Diploma Physics student in this belt actually needs help with, and the mathematics courses that sit underneath them.

Diploma Physics

Higher Level

The full content set plus the additional Higher Level material and an extra paper. Students who cope with the mechanics and then meet fields, induction and quantum topics often find the difficulty is cumulative rather than local: each new topic assumes fluency with the mathematical handling of the last.

Diploma Physics

Standard Level

A reduced content set, but the same demand for precise definition and for explanation rather than description. Standard Level students lose most marks on long-answer questions by stating what happens without identifying the mechanism, which is a writing habit as much as a physics one.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

An internally assessed piece of the student's own experimental work and writing, marked against published criteria. The design and the evaluation of uncertainty carry the marks that students most often miss. A tutor may coach the process and question reasoning; a tutor may not write any part of it.

Mechanics and energy

HL and SL

The foundation topic and the one students feel most confident about, which is why gaps here go undetected. Problems usually come from inconsistent handling of vectors and from treating energy conservation as a formula rather than as a constraint on the whole situation.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

Where marks disappear in volume. Students can recite the relationships and still cannot reason about what happens to the rest of a circuit when one component changes. Circuit reasoning is trainable with targeted question practice and does not improve by re-reading notes.

Fields, induction and electromagnetism

Mainly Higher Level

The topic that separates a comfortable Higher Level student from a struggling one, because it demands holding a geometric picture and an algebraic relationship at the same time. Sessions here benefit from drawing before calculating, every time.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL

Conceptually accessible and mathematically unforgiving. Phase, path difference and superposition questions punish approximate reasoning, and students who are strong elsewhere often find this is where their long-answer marks drop without warning.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL, alongside Physics

The mathematics route that most comfortably supports Physics Higher Level, because the algebraic fluency and calculus are taught directly. Students taking Physics HL with AA SL rather than HL are usually fine, provided the algebra is secure.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL, alongside Physics

A combination that needs watching. Applications and Interpretation Standard Level does not teach everything Physics Higher Level assumes, so a short bridging block on rearrangement, proportionality, graphs and trigonometry is often the highest-value physics purchase available.

Pre-Diploma physics bridging

Summer before Year 12

A short block before Diploma year one starts, closing the gap between 0625 or 4PH1 and what Diploma Physics assumes. It needs no term-time slot and prevents the October problem that sends most families searching in the first place.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns that respect the division between what the school's laboratory does and what an hour outside it can do. Choosing the wrong one is how families end up paying to duplicate the school.

Theory and problem hour

A weekly hour on the theory and the worked problems, placed on a light science day so the subject is refreshed in the gap between double periods. Diagram first, algebra second, and every answer written out so the method is visible. This is the mode most Diploma Physics students in this belt need and the one most often mis-timed.

  • One hour a week on a day without a double science period
  • Worked problems on the current topic, not a parallel syllabus
  • Diagrams drawn before any equation is written
  • Long-answer structure practised on real question stems

Mathematics-inside-physics block

A short, narrow block aimed at the mathematical handling that Physics assumes and the student's mathematics course has not secured: rearrangement, proportional reasoning, graph gradients and areas, logarithmic scales, trigonometry in resolved components. It is physics tuition in effect even though none of it is physics content.

  • Scoped from the student's actual mathematics route and level
  • Rearrangement and substitution drilled to automatic
  • Gradient, intercept and area read off graphs without hesitation
  • Resolved components and small-angle reasoning where topics need them

Investigation process sessions

A small number of sessions around the school's internal deadlines for the scientific investigation. The experiment and the writing are the student's; the sessions are for testing whether a research question can actually be investigated, understanding what each criterion rewards, and being questioned on reasoning that does not hold.

  • Research question viability tested early enough to change it
  • Criterion-by-criterion walkthrough of what earns marks
  • Uncertainty and error analysis taught as a method, not supplied
  • Questioning of the student's own draft; never writing or rewriting it

01

Draw the line between the school's laboratory and a tutor's hour

The most expensive mistake in Diploma Physics tuition is paying someone to do what the school already does well. The laboratory, the equipment, the supervised practical sessions and the teacher who knows this cohort's coursework deadlines are all inside the school day, free at the point of use, and irreplaceable. A tutor who spends the hour describing experiments the student has already performed is selling a duplicate.

What falls outside the school day is a specific and substantial list. Theory that was taught once in a crowded double period and never revisited. The mathematical handling that physics assumes and that the mathematics course may not have reached yet. The structure of a long-answer response, which is where Diploma Physics marks are won and lost and which is almost never taught explicitly because it is not content. And the investigation process: choosing a research question that can actually be investigated, understanding what the criteria reward, and being questioned hard on reasoning.

A useful test before booking: ask what the student did in their last two physics lessons, and what they did with it afterwards. If the answer is that they performed an experiment and then nothing, the hour belongs to turning the data into understanding. If the answer is that they sat through theory they did not follow, the hour belongs to that theory. If the answer is that they followed everything and still cannot answer the questions, the hour belongs to question technique and probably to mathematics.

The table below separates the two domains explicitly. It is the conversation to have with yourself before buying anything, and it will often shorten what you buy.

02

Higher Level against Standard Level, as a weekly load

The step from Standard to Higher Level Physics is one of the largest in the Diploma science group, and it is not simply more topics. Higher Level content is cumulative in a way that Standard Level content is not: fields, induction and the later topics each assume fluency with the mathematical handling of the earlier ones, so a student who got through mechanics on intuition rather than on method hits a wall in the second year rather than the first.

That cumulative structure changes what a weekly hour is for. For a Standard Level student, a weekly hour tracking the school's current topic works well all the way through. For a Higher Level student, the hour needs a second job: keeping the earlier mathematical handling alive so that the later topics have something to stand on. In practice that means a portion of most sessions spent on the algebra and graph work of an earlier topic, which students resist because it feels like going backwards.

The level decision also interacts with the mathematics route. Physics Higher Level alongside Mathematics Applications and Interpretation Standard Level is a combination that works, but only if someone explicitly teaches the mathematical handling that the physics assumes and the mathematics course does not cover. Families who do not realise this buy physics tuition for a mathematics problem, and the grade does not move.

Confirm the component weightings and paper structure from your school's subject outline rather than from any tutoring page. The table compares the two levels on the dimensions that affect how an hour should be spent.

The mathematics inside the physics, named topic by topic

A large share of the Diploma Physics students who need help do not have a physics problem. They can describe the mechanism, name the relationship and explain what is happening, and then cannot execute. The failure is in the mathematical handling, and because the subject on the timetable is physics, that is what the family buys tuition in. Six weeks later the understanding is better and the marks are the same.

The diagnostic is quick. Give the student a physics problem they have described correctly and watch where the pencil stops. If it stops at rearranging a relationship to make a different quantity the subject, the gap is algebraic. If it stops at reading a gradient or an area from a graph, the gap is graphical. If it stops at resolving a vector into components, the gap is trigonometric. None of those is physics, and none of them is fixed by physics teaching.

The awkward part is that the mathematics course may not have covered it yet, or may not cover it at all. A student taking Physics Higher Level with Mathematics Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level is in exactly this position: the physics assumes handling the mathematics course does not teach, and nobody owns the gap. It is nobody's fault and it is entirely fixable, usually in a short narrow block rather than a term.

The table maps the common stalling points to the mathematical skill underneath them. Use it to work out whether the next six hours should be physics hours at all.

The investigation, timed from the school's deadline backwards

  • Ask the school for the investigation deadline at the start of the year, not in the term it falls
  • Choose the research question early enough that it can still be changed
  • Data collection has to fit the school's laboratory access, which is a fixed constraint
  • Design and uncertainty evaluation carry the marks students most often miss
  • A tutor may question a draft; a tutor may not write any part of one
  • No board papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables are supplied by us, by design

The internally assessed scientific investigation is the part of the Physics grade written at home, over weeks, against published criteria - and the part most exposed to both procrastination and bad help. Its deadline is set by your child's school, not by the IB, and it is almost always earlier than students expect. Asking for that date at the start of the year is the single most useful administrative act available to a parent.

Working backwards from it produces a sane plan. Before the deadline sits the writing. Before the writing sits the data collection, which has to fit the school's laboratory access rather than the student's convenience. Before the data sits the method, before the method sits the research question, and before the research question sits a period of reading and thinking that students compress to a weekend and should not. A research question chosen late is a research question that cannot be changed when it turns out not to be investigable.

What the marks actually reward is worth being specific about. The design of the investigation and the evaluation of uncertainty carry marks that students routinely leave on the table, because both require explaining choices rather than reporting results. A student who collected good data and wrote up what happened, without justifying the method or engaging honestly with its limitations, has written a competent lab report and a weak investigation.

The boundary for a tutor is clean. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards, test whether a research question can be investigated with available apparatus, teach uncertainty analysis as a method, read the student's own draft and question reasoning that does not hold. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or complete any part of it. IB Gram tutors do not produce assessed work, and we do not supply IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables - those are published and owned by the IB and your school holds the current versions.

05

Reading the week: double periods, clinics and the slot that survives

Science timetables cluster, and that clustering is the most useful scheduling information a Physics family has. A student with a double period of Physics on two days of the week has two days where the subject is saturated and three where it is absent. The saturated days are poor evenings for a session because the student has had enough; the absent days are good ones because the subject gets refreshed in a gap where it would otherwise go quiet.

Overlay two more things. The school's own after-hours commitments - revision clinics, Creativity Activity Service, Extended Essay supervision meetings, fixtures - fall on specific weekdays and will quietly claim any slot booked on top of them. And the commute: a Physics student travelling back from Festival City or Nad Al Sheba at peak is not starting a demanding session at half past four, whatever the plan says.

The practical approach is to get the term calendar at the start of term, write out the five weekdays with the science periods and the school commitments marked, and look for the intersection: a day with no double science, no school commitment, and a manageable journey home. In this belt there is usually one such day, occasionally two. That is where the hour goes, and it goes there for the whole term rather than moving around.

Ramadan needs deciding in advance as well. School hours shorten, the day changes shape and useful working energy moves to after Iftar. Agreeing beforehand that the Physics hour shifts to a post-Iftar slot for that period and returns afterwards preserves continuity through a month that otherwise costs four sessions and the momentum with them.

06

What the hour costs here, and why the laboratory changes the sum

Rates in this market are published across an unusually wide band, and the figures below belong to the providers that published them rather than to IB Gram. At the budget end, EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. For qualified online tuition, Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, read in October 2026, gives AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level provision sits at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. In-home one-to-one including travel is quoted at AED 180 to 500, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end.

Physics changes how to read those numbers, because the expensive part of the subject is already paid for. The laboratory, the equipment and the supervised practical time sit inside school fees, and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. The marginal purchase a family is making is theory, mathematics and investigation process - a narrower product than it feels like, and one that should often be bought in shorter blocks.

Monthly figures compare more cleanly than hourly ones. One Dubai provider publishes AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, roughly AED 100 an hour. In-home monthly packages are advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits, roughly AED 200 to 225 for the same eight hours. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Diploma Physics sessions for Oud Metha students run one-to-one over live video. For this subject specifically the format has a practical advantage beyond rate: diagrams, graphs and worked algebra sit on a shared screen where both people can annotate them, which is more legible than a notebook turned sideways on a kitchen table.

07

Regulators, the mandatory block and what a parent can verify

KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, inspecting on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, and publishing the reports. For a Physics family that report is directly useful: if it names science attainment or teaching as a strength at your child's school, the laboratory side of the subject is in good hands and your money belongs on theory, mathematics and the investigation. If it flags science as an area for improvement, the balance shifts.

The rest of the country divides differently. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain; the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah; Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge regulates it there; and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. ADEK is named by none of the competitor pages researched for this project.

The mandatory block applies to every Dubai private school whatever its licensed curriculum. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required, with KHDA's requirements due from the start of the 2025-26 academic year or April 2026 where the year begins in April. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and KHDA advises any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least twenty-five minutes. Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are strictly prohibited.

On tutors: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Tutoring without a permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published so no amount is quoted. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by any of these bodies and has no UAE office.

Where we tutor

The commute each neighbourhood gives a Diploma Physics student

Diploma Physics students from this belt generally travel further to school than their younger siblings, because the local provision to sixteen outnumbers the local Diploma provision. Below is what each neighbourhood does to the afternoon that follows.

Oud Metha

Central to the school belt but not to the Diploma schools, so a Physics student here is usually commuting outward and back. The compensation is that the return journey is into the middle of the district rather than out of it, which keeps the evening intact.

Karama

Short journeys and dense housing, so the constraint is quiet space rather than travel. A Physics session involving diagrams and worked problems needs a surface and a screen, and in a shared flat that argues for the hour before younger siblings get home.

Al Mankhool

Immediately west across the Al Mankhool Road. The congestion on the approaches between four and six is the thing that turns a planned half past four session into a rushed five o'clock one, so plan for the later time rather than reschedule weekly.

Al Jaddaf and Dubai Healthcare City

Where the nearest IB continuum option sits, so some Physics students here have almost no commute and the strongest available afternoon in the district. This is the group that can use a mid-afternoon slot for new theory and should.

Bur Dubai

Mixed provision and multi-child households. Where a Physics student and an IGCSE sibling both need support, run them back to back with two specialists rather than one tutor across both - physics at Diploma level is not a subject a generalist covers well.

Al Garhoud and Festival City

The creek crossing, with Diploma and American-curriculum provision. The 4pm to 6pm window on the approaches regularly adds twenty minutes, which is enough to make a mid-afternoon Physics slot impossible on school days.

Al Nasr and Za'abeel

Working-parent households where sessions default to the evening. For Physics that is survivable if the hour is narrow: one topic, worked problems, no new theory. A wide-ranging evening session after a double-period science day achieves very little.

Nad Al Sheba and Mohammed Bin Rashid City direction

Thirty minutes or more at peak for students attending the Diploma schools out this way. For them a protected weekend morning is often a better Physics slot than any weekday, particularly in the timed-paper phase of year two.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level, the maths route and the school

Physics Higher or Standard Level, the mathematics course and level taken alongside it, and the school. That combination predicts most of what a Physics student will struggle with, and the mathematics route in particular changes the plan more than the physics level does.

  2. 02

Send the science timetable, not just the report

Which weekdays carry double periods and which do not, plus the school's term calendar. The session belongs on a light science day with no school commitment, and that day is identifiable in ten minutes from documents the school already publishes.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with a worked problem

A full one-to-one session over live video at no charge, built around a problem the student has already attempted. Watching where the pencil stops tells a tutor whether the gap is physics, mathematics or long-answer writing, which is three different plans.

  4. 04

A written split, then a plan sized to it

After the trial you get the gap named explicitly: theory not absorbed, mathematical handling missing, long-answer structure untrained, or investigation process. Narrow blocks are often the right answer, particularly where the real gap is mathematical rather than physical.

  5. 05

Review against school assessments and the investigation deadline

Progress is judged against the school's own marks and against whether the investigation is on schedule, not against how the sessions feel. If neither is moving, the plan changes or the tutor does, and we will say so rather than sell another term.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We do not sell what the school already provides

The laboratory, the equipment and the supervised practical work belong inside the school day and cannot be bought outside it. The hour is pointed at theory, mathematical handling, long-answer structure and investigation process, which is a narrower product and usually a shorter plan.

The mathematics gap diagnosed, not ignored

Many Diploma Physics students who need help have an algebra, graph or trigonometry problem wearing a physics badge. Physics Higher Level alongside Applications and Interpretation Standard Level is the classic case. We name it and fix it in a narrow block rather than selling physics hours.

Timed to the science timetable

A session on a double-period day meets a saturated student; a session on a light day refreshes a subject that would otherwise go quiet for four days. We pick the weekday from the school's own timetable and term calendar rather than from a tutor's diary.

Investigation help that stays legitimate

Tutors explain the criteria, test whether a research question is investigable with the apparatus available, teach uncertainty analysis, and question the student's own draft. They do not write, draft or complete any part of it, and we supply no board papers or mark schemes.

Shared screen suits this subject

Diagrams, graphs and worked algebra sit on a surface both people can annotate, which is more legible than a notebook turned sideways. For a subject where drawing before calculating is the core discipline, that is a practical gain rather than a compromise.

Every figure attributed, no claims we cannot show

The dirham bands here belong to the providers that published them, with the month read. No regulator approval, no UAE office, no grade guarantees, no IB dates we have not been able to verify, and no statistic without a source.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Oud Metha: your questions answered

Can an online tutor help with IB Physics when the practical work happens at school?+

Yes, because the practical work is not the part that needs buying. The laboratory, the apparatus and the supervised experiments sit inside the school day and nothing replaces them. What falls outside is the theory that went past too fast in a double period, the mathematical handling physics assumes, the structure of a long-answer response, and the process of turning an experiment into an investigation that satisfies the criteria. That list is substantial, and all of it works over a shared screen. A tutor describing experiments the student has already performed is selling a duplicate.

My child can explain the physics and still loses marks. What is going on?+

Usually the mathematics, wearing a physics badge. Give them a problem they have described correctly and watch where the pencil stops. Stopping at rearranging a relationship is an algebra gap; stopping at reading a gradient or an area off a graph is a graphical one; stopping at splitting a vector into components is trigonometry. None of those is fixed by physics teaching, which is why a term of physics tuition can improve understanding without moving the grade. A short narrow block on the specific skill usually does more than six physics hours.

Is Physics Higher Level manageable with Maths Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level?+

It is, but only if somebody explicitly teaches the mathematical handling that the physics assumes and that course does not cover. Rearrangement with squared terms, resolving components, gradients and areas as physical quantities, proportional reasoning and exponential behaviour all turn up in Higher Level Physics topics. Nobody owns that gap by default: the physics teacher assumes the maths course covers it and the maths course has a different syllabus. Identify it before Year 12 if you can, and close it in a short block rather than discovering it in October.

Which day of the week should a Physics session go on?+

A day without a double science period, with no school commitment, and a manageable journey home. Science timetables cluster, so most students have two saturated days and three where the subject is absent - and the absent days are the valuable ones, because the hour refreshes a subject that would otherwise go quiet for four days. Get the term calendar and the science timetable at the start of term, mark the five weekdays, and look for the intersection. In this belt there is usually one clear day, sometimes two.

When should work on the scientific investigation actually start?+

Earlier than it does, and the first step is administrative: ask the school for the internal deadline at the start of the year rather than in the term it falls. Then work backwards - writing before the deadline, data collection before the writing and constrained by laboratory access, method before data, research question before method, and reading and thinking before that. Students compress the last part into a weekend, which is how they end up with a question that turns out not to be investigable and no time left to change it.

Which part of the investigation do students lose the most marks on?+

The design and the evaluation of uncertainty, rather than the experiment itself. Both require explaining and justifying choices instead of reporting results, which is a different kind of writing from anything else in the subject. A student who collected good data and wrote up what happened, without defending the method or engaging honestly with its limitations, has produced a competent laboratory report and a weak investigation. That distinction is teachable in a few sessions, and it is worth more than extra content work.

What can a tutor legitimately do with the investigation draft?+

Explain what each criterion rewards. Test whether a research question can actually be investigated with the apparatus the school has. Teach uncertainty and error analysis as a method the student then applies. Read the student's own draft and ask hard questions about reasoning that does not hold. Point out where a section fails to address the criterion it is meant to. What a tutor may not do is write, draft, rewrite or complete any part of it. IB Gram tutors do not produce assessed work, and the consequences of the alternative fall on the student.

How big is the jump from IGCSE Physics to Diploma Physics?+

Larger from Core than from Extended, and larger in mathematical demand than in content. A student arriving from 0625 Extended or 4PH1 with secure algebra usually copes; a student arriving from a Core tier has a genuine content gap that shows up in the October of Diploma year one rather than earlier. The cheapest fix is a short bridging block in the summer before Year 12, which needs no term-time slot at all. Discovering the gap in the first set of Diploma assessments instead costs a term of catching up.

Which Physics topics should a Higher Level student expect to need help with?+

Fields, induction and electromagnetism, more than anything else, because they demand holding a geometric picture and an algebraic relationship simultaneously. Waves, phase and path difference come next: conceptually accessible and mathematically unforgiving. Circuits catch out students who can recite relationships but cannot reason about what happens elsewhere when one component changes. Mechanics is rarely named as a problem and is often where the undetected gap sits, because early confidence there hides handling weaknesses that later topics expose.

Does my child's school inspection report tell us anything useful here?+

More than usual for a science subject. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes the reports free. If science teaching or attainment is named as a strength at your child's school, the laboratory and teaching side is in good hands and your money belongs on theory, mathematical handling and the investigation. If science is flagged as an area for improvement, the balance shifts and a weekly theory hour is doing more structural work than it would otherwise.

How do we plan backwards from the IB exams if we do not know the dates?+

Plan from the school-set milestones, which are the ones that actually govern the work. The investigation internal deadline, the mock window and the end-of-year-one audit of what year two assumes are all set by your child's school and are available from the term calendar. On the IB's own dates we will not guess: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB directly, and we do not publish one. Take yours from your school's IB coordinator.

What does Diploma Physics tutoring cost around Oud Metha?+

Published Dubai rates run AED 33 to 65 an hour at the budget end, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; AED 150 to 300 for qualified online tuition, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200; AED 200 to 450 or more for specialist IB provision, with TutorChase publishing AED 270; AED 180 to 500 for in-home including travel; and AED 650 at the premium end from BartyED. All read October 2026, all the providers' figures rather than ours. Monthly, one provider publishes AED 799 for eight online sessions.

Is an in-home Physics tutor worth the premium in this part of Dubai?+

The drives here are short, so the premium is not mileage - it is the small number of people who can teach Diploma Physics well and will commit to arriving at a specific Karama or Al Mankhool address at a fixed hour. Published in-home rates run AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; sessions run one-to-one over live video. For this subject the shared annotated screen is also genuinely better for diagrams and graphs than a notebook at the table edge.

How do we keep the Physics hour running through Ramadan?+

Decide before it starts rather than improvising. School hours shorten, the shape of the day changes and productive energy moves to after Iftar, so a slot that works in November will not survive unchanged. Agree in advance that the session shifts to a post-Iftar time for that period and returns afterwards. Families who plan this keep continuity through a month that otherwise costs four sessions and the momentum with them. Online delivery makes the shift simple; a fixed in-home arrival window is the hardest commitment in the week to move.

Do the mandatory UAE subjects affect how much physics teaching my child gets?+

They press on the timetable. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with KHDA's requirements due from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, and KHDA advises at least twenty-five minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson. Those periods sit inside the day alongside six Diploma subjects, a laboratory requirement, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, so the week is tighter than a subject list suggests.

What if no Higher Level Physics specialist is available when we need one?+

We tell you, rather than putting a general science tutor in the slot and charging for the hour. Diploma Physics at Higher Level is a narrower specialism than Mathematics or Chemistry and the pool is smaller, so the honest options are to wait for the right tutor, to start with a related specialist on a clearly stated interim basis, or not to book. Because delivery is online rather than by someone driving across Dubai, the pool is every Higher Level Physics specialist available rather than the few who will travel to Oud Metha at five o'clock.

Separate the laboratory from the hour, then book the hour

Before buying anything, work out which part of Diploma Physics you are actually short of. The laboratory, the apparatus and the supervised practical work are the school's and are already paid for. What is usually missing is theory that went past too quickly, the mathematical handling the subject assumes, the structure of a long-answer response, and a credible plan for the investigation. Bring a problem your child has already attempted to a free trial lesson, let the tutor watch where the pencil stops, and let that decide whether the next block is physics, mathematics or process work. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
