IB Home Tutor in Oud Metha

The real question behind an IB home tutor in Oud Metha search is whether anybody available actually knows the syllabus your child is sitting. It is a fair worry and the answer is uncomfortable: several IB subject guides have been rewritten in recent years, and a tutor working from the previous version teaches content that has moved. Here is how to test for that in four minutes, and why we deliver one-to-one over live video.

  • Matched to the current subject guide, not the one before it
  • Four questions that expose a stale syllabus in minutes
  • Live video one-to-one, Gulf Standard Time slots

IB & IGCSE in Oud Metha

The worry behind the search is syllabus currency, and it is justified

Parents in Oud Metha ask for an IB home tutor and are usually asking something more precise than they say out loud: is there anybody within reach who genuinely knows the syllabus my child is sitting, as it exists now? That is a sharper question than it sounds, and it deserves a straight answer rather than reassurance. The International Baccalaureate revises its subject guides on a cycle, and several have been rewritten in the last few years. A tutor whose most recent classroom experience predates the revision is not incompetent. They are working from a map that has changed.

The consequences are specific rather than vague. In the sciences the guides published in 2023, first assessed in 2025, restructured content and changed the assessment architecture: the old optional topics went, the paper structure changed at Higher Level, and the internal assessment became a single scientific investigation. In Economics the 2020 guide introduced a conceptual framework and a different internal assessment format entirely. In Theory of Knowledge the exhibition replaced the presentation. In Language A the individual oral replaced the older oral commentary and a learner portfolio appeared. A tutor who prepares a student for an option topic that no longer exists has wasted the hours and, worse, has built confidence in the wrong place.

This is also why the most common form of evidence a family has - a recommendation from another parent in Oud Metha - is the weakest kind here. The neighbour's child may have sat a different guide, a different subject, a different level, or all three. A tutor who was genuinely excellent for a Higher Level Chemistry student three years ago may be teaching a structure that no longer matches the paper. The recommendation was honest and it has quietly expired, and nobody involved knows that.

What a parent without subject knowledge can do about it is more than they think. Four questions, answerable in a few minutes, separate a tutor who is current from one who is not, and they do not require you to understand the chemistry. Those questions are in a table further down, along with what changed in which subject. We would rather hand them over than ask anybody to trust a claim, including ours.

On delivery, since the URL says home tutor and that is the phrase parents type: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we provide only in India, and every lesson for an Oud Metha family is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. The syllabus-currency problem is, in fact, the clearest argument for that model. Insisting on somebody who can drive to Oud Metha narrows the field to whoever is nearby and available, and currency on a revised guide is not distributed by postcode.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three programmes and the core, each with its own revision history. The point in each case is the same: ask which version your child is on before anyone starts teaching.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects from six groups, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject has its own guide and its own revision cycle, so a student can be on a recently rewritten guide in one subject and a long-stable one in another. There is no single Diploma version number to ask about - it is subject by subject.

UAE candidates sit the May session, with November as the alternative sitting. We publish no IB session or results dates here: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so take every date from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org directly rather than from a tutoring website.

CoreDP1 into DP2

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Theory of Knowledge is now assessed through an exhibition of three objects against a prompt and an essay on a prescribed title. The exhibition is the newer of the two components and it replaced a presentation format, which means a tutor whose experience predates the change will coach the wrong thing entirely. The Extended Essay remains a 4,000 word independent research piece with assessed supervisor reflections.

Dubai schools set internal Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge deadlines well before the IB's own, and those internal dates govern a student's spring. Ask the coordinator for them in writing at the start of DP1 rather than hearing about them in DP2.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria on a 0 to 8 band, with the Personal Project in MYP 5. The Personal Project criteria were reduced to three - Planning, Applying skills and Reflecting - which is a change a tutor working from older material gets wrong, and it matters because it changes where the 24 marks sit.

MYP is a minority route in Old Dubai, which makes currency harder to verify locally: fewer local tutors have taught it recently, and the ones who taught it years ago are the most likely to be working from superseded criteria.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE, for comparison

Cambridge and Pearson also revise syllabuses, and the same currency question applies: Cambridge Mathematics 0580 now sets a non-calculator paper worth half the grade, which is a change a tutor working from older practice will not have prepared a student for. Syllabus codes make this easier to verify than in the IB, because the code is printed on the entry.

Many Oud Metha households have one child on IGCSE and one on the Diploma. The currency check is the same in both cases; the IGCSE version is simply easier to run, because a syllabus code and a year of first examination are published and searchable.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subject by subject, what has moved in recent guide revisions and what a tutor working from the previous version is likely to get wrong. Confirm the version your child is on with the school.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The current guide organises content as Structure and Reactivity rather than the older numbered topics, the optional topics are gone, and the internal assessment is a single scientific investigation. A tutor still teaching to an option, or still describing a third Higher Level paper, is working from the previous architecture and will misallocate revision time.

Physics

HL and SL

Content is grouped into five themes and the paper structure changed, with Paper 1 carrying a multiple-choice section and a data-based section. Anyone preparing a student for a separate options paper is preparing for something that is not sat. The investigation is one piece of work on four criteria, worth 20 per cent.

Biology

HL and SL

Restructured around unifying themes and levels of biological organisation rather than the older topic list, with options removed and a single scientific investigation. The content overlap with the previous guide is large, which is exactly why a stale tutor sounds convincing - the facts are mostly right and the structure and assessment are not.

Economics

HL and SL

The current guide is built around a set of key concepts and the internal assessment is a portfolio of commentaries framed by those concepts. A tutor working from the previous format will coach commentary writing against the wrong framing, which caps the internal assessment regardless of how well written it is.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Assessed by an exhibition of three objects against a prompt plus an essay on a prescribed title. The exhibition replaced an earlier presentation format. A tutor preparing a presentation is preparing the wrong component, and this is among the easiest stale-syllabus errors for a parent to spot without any subject knowledge.

Language A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

An individual oral examining how a global issue is presented across two works, a learner portfolio, an unseen analysis paper, a comparative essay paper and at Higher Level an additional essay. The oral format differs from the older commentary, so the preparation differs completely.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

One of the two routes that replaced the earlier Mathematics structure, with proof, calculus and algebraic technique emphasised and a mathematical exploration as the internal assessment. A tutor describing the old Studies, Standard and Higher structure is describing something that no longer exists.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The modelling and statistics route, with heavier technology use and the same exploration component. Students and parents often assume this is the easier option; it is a different emphasis rather than a lower demand, and university requirements treat the two routes differently.

Business Management

HL and SL

Revised in recent years with changes to both content organisation and the internal assessment. Anyone coaching the previous internal assessment format is coaching a structure that is no longer submitted, which is a whole component's worth of misdirected work.

History

HL and SL

A longer-stable guide, with a source-based paper, an essay paper, a Higher Level regional paper and an internally assessed historical investigation. Stability makes currency less of a risk here, which is worth knowing - the check matters more in some subjects than others and it is not uniform.

Language B

HL and SL

Writing, listening and reading papers plus an individually assessed oral on a stimulus. The oral format and the themes framework are the parts most likely to be out of date in older material, and the oral carries enough weight that getting its structure wrong is expensive.

The Arts

Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, Film · HL and SL

Heavily internally assessed through portfolios, exhibitions and performance components, with documentation requirements that have been revised. The specialism here is the documentation process rather than the artistic practice, and it is the part most likely to have changed under a tutor's feet.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways we work with Oud Metha families, each built around establishing what is actually being sat before anything is taught.

Currency-checked subject matching

You tell us the subject, the level and, if you have it, the guide version from the coordinator. We match a tutor whose recent teaching is on that guide, and we tell you when a candidate's experience predates a revision rather than letting you find out later. Where we cannot match a current specialist, we say so.

  • Matched on the current guide, not on general subject reputation
  • Any gap in a tutor's currency disclosed before the trial
  • A free trial with the tutor you would actually continue with
  • An honest no where a current match is not available

Component-specific internal assessment work

Targeted help on the internally assessed component as it exists now - a scientific investigation on four criteria, a mathematical exploration, a Theory of Knowledge exhibition, an Economics commentary portfolio. These are the components where a stale tutor does the most damage, so they are the ones we match most carefully.

  • Started before design decisions cap the available marks
  • Framed by the current criteria, not an earlier version
  • A written boundary on what a tutor will not produce
  • Timed against the school's internal deadline

A short diagnostic engagement

Two or three sessions to establish what is actually wrong before any recurring commitment. Useful when a report is ambiguous, when a student has been tutored before without effect, or when a family suspects the previous help was aimed at the wrong version of the course.

  • Starts from a marked script or an internal assessment draft
  • Checks the work against the current guide's criteria
  • Produces a written, ranked account of where marks are going
  • No standing commitment and no automatic renewal

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Oud Metha

01

Which IB guides have moved, and what a stale tutor teaches wrong

The reason this matters more than it sounds is that a stale tutor is convincing. The factual content of a revised guide usually overlaps heavily with the version before it, so the explanations are right, the worked examples are right, and the manner is confident. What has changed is the structure: which content is examinable, how the papers are built, and what the internally assessed component actually is. Those are the things that decide marks, and they are invisible to a parent sitting in the next room hearing competent chemistry.

The sciences are the clearest case. The current Biology, Chemistry and Physics guides, published in 2023 and first assessed in 2025, removed the optional topics, reorganised content - Chemistry into Structure and Reactivity, Physics into five themes, Biology around unifying themes and levels of organisation - and changed the assessment architecture, with a single scientific investigation worth 20 per cent across four criteria. A tutor preparing a student for an option topic is preparing for something not sat. A tutor describing a separate Higher Level options paper is describing a paper that is not set.

Outside the sciences the changes are different in kind but equally consequential. Theory of Knowledge is now assessed through an exhibition of three objects against a prompt, plus the essay; the exhibition replaced an earlier presentation format, so a tutor coaching a presentation is coaching a component that no longer exists. Economics is organised around key concepts with an internal assessment framed by them. Language A uses an individual oral examining a global issue across two works, which differs from the older oral commentary in both structure and preparation. Business Management has been revised in both content and internal assessment.

Two honest caveats. First, not every subject has changed: History, for instance, has been relatively stable, so the currency risk is not uniform and a family should not treat every tutor as suspect. Second, your child's school is the authority on which version applies, not us and not a web page - guides have transition periods and schools confirm what their cohort is sitting. Ask the IB coordinator for the subject guide version and first-assessment year for each subject, and use the table below as a checklist rather than as a verdict.

Four questions that expose a stale syllabus without any subject knowledge

A parent does not need to understand chemistry to find out whether a chemistry tutor is current. The questions below work because they ask about structure rather than content, and structure is exactly what a stale tutor gets wrong. They take about four minutes and they work on anybody, including us.

First: what is the internally assessed component in this subject, and how is it marked? In the current science guides the answer is one scientific investigation, assessed on four criteria, worth 20 per cent. If an answer involves two separate pieces of practical work, or a distinct group project submission, or describes criteria that do not match what the school has told you, the tutor is working from an earlier version. Second: how many papers does my child sit, and what is in each? A tutor who teaches the subject answers without hesitation, because the paper structure determines the teaching order.

Third: which content is optional, and what has my child chosen? In the current science guides this is a trick question with a correct answer of none, because the optional topics were removed. A tutor who starts discussing which option to revise has told you everything you need to know. The equivalent in Theory of Knowledge is asking what the non-essay component is: exhibition is current, presentation is not. Fourth: what is the top-level structure of the course - name the main divisions? Structure and Reactivity for Chemistry, five themes for Physics, the two routes for Mathematics.

Then do one more thing, which costs nothing. Email the school's IB coordinator and ask for the subject guide version and first-assessment year for each of your child's subjects. With those in hand the four questions become checkable rather than suggestive, and the conversation with any prospective tutor takes two minutes instead of four. Families in Oud Metha who do this consistently report that it changes who they hire, and occasionally that it changes whether they hire anybody at all.

03

Why another Oud Metha parent's recommendation is the weakest evidence here

  • A recommendation encodes a subject, a level, a guide version and a need - all four can differ
  • The recommendation is usually honest and quietly expired
  • Add one step: run the currency questions against what the coordinator confirms
  • Ask us the same questions rather than taking a claim on trust

In a district where families know each other and children attend the same handful of schools, a recommendation carries real weight, and it should - for most services it is the best signal available. For Diploma subject tutoring it is the signal most likely to be quietly out of date, and it is worth understanding why before acting on one.

A recommendation encodes an experience from one to three years ago, in one subject, at one level, under whatever guide was then in force. Every one of those four variables can differ from your case. The other child may have sat Standard Level where yours sits Higher. They may have been on the previous guide where yours is on the current one. They may have needed content teaching where yours needs internal assessment design. And the tutor who was excellent at the first thing may never have taught the second.

What makes this particularly hard to detect is that the recommendation was honest. The other family's experience was good, the grade came out well, and they are passing on something real. Nobody in the chain knows that the course has been rewritten underneath the advice. This is the single most common way we see Oud Metha families spend money on tutoring that is competent and misaimed, and it is not anybody's fault.

The fix is not to distrust your neighbours. It is to add one step: take the recommendation, then run the four currency questions and check the answers against what the coordinator has told you about your child's guide. A genuinely current tutor passes that in two minutes and nobody is offended. A tutor who does not pass it has just saved you a term. Ask us the same questions - we would rather be checked than believed.

04

The school is the authority, and it will tell you in one email

  • Ask the coordinator for guide version and first-assessment year, per subject
  • Ask for the internally assessed component and weighting for each
  • Ask for the school's internal deadlines, which govern the year
  • Establish what free departmental support already exists before paying anyone

Everything on this page rests on a fact a web page cannot supply: which version of each subject guide your child is actually being taught. Guides have transition arrangements, schools confirm what their cohort is sitting, and a tutoring site that tells you with certainty what your child is studying is guessing. The IB coordinator at your child's school knows, and the question is ordinary rather than awkward.

Ask for five things in one message. The subject guide version and first-assessment year for each of your child's six subjects. The internally assessed component for each and its weighting. The school's internal deadlines for those components, which are the dates that actually govern a student's year. The Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay internal deadlines. And whether any subject is in a transition cohort, because that is where confusion concentrates.

Those five answers do more for a family than most first tutoring sessions. They tell you what is being examined, what is already closed, what is still open, and - once you have the guide versions - whether any prospective tutor is working from the right material. They also tell you where there is no problem: if a subject's guide has been stable for years, the currency question is largely moot and you can judge a tutor on ordinary grounds.

One further reason to go to the school first: it is free, and some of what families buy tutoring for is already provided. Oud Metha households sit inside the school belt, which means after-school support, departmental revision sessions and teacher availability are physically easy to access. Before paying anybody, it is worth establishing what the school already runs. We would rather a family used a free departmental session than bought an hour from us to cover the same ground, and we will say so when the free option looks adequate.

05

What a current specialist does differently inside the hour

  • Real criteria named from the first minute, not generic advice about hypotheses
  • Past-paper work matching the paper structure actually sat
  • The teaching sequence following the school's, because the content order changed
  • A mismatch here explains most tutoring that was competent and did not work

It is fair to ask what currency actually looks like in practice, because the claim is easy to make and harder to evidence. Three things change in a session when a tutor is working from the right guide, and all three are observable from the next room if you know what to listen for.

The first is that the internally assessed component is framed by its real criteria from the first minute. In the current science guides that means research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, with the ceiling set by whether the chosen variable can be measured precisely enough against the instrument's resolution. A current tutor asks about instrument resolution early. A stale tutor talks about having a clear hypothesis and working hard, which is advice that fits any version and improves none.

The second is that past-paper work matches the paper being sat. A tutor who knows that Paper 1 carries a data-based section will drill uncertainty handling and graph reading, because that is where the marks are. A tutor on the previous architecture will spend proportionally more time on content recall and less on data skills, and the student will meet the data section underprepared while feeling well taught.

The third is that the teaching sequence matches the school's. The current guides reorganised content, which means the order a school teaches in has changed too. A current tutor can follow the school's sequence because they recognise it; a stale one imposes their own, and the student ends up being taught next term's material this term while this term's assessment goes unprepared. That mismatch is one of the most frequent complaints we hear from families who have had tutoring that did not work, and it is almost always this rather than teaching quality.

06

What currency is worth paying for, and what it is not

Currency is a real reason to pay a specialist rate rather than a budget one, and it is worth being precise about where that premium earns its keep rather than applying it everywhere.

The market figures first, each attributed and read in October 2026. At the budget end Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, which buys homework supervision. Unitors publishes IB from AED 200 an hour and IGCSE from AED 150. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table places IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above. TutorChase publishes AED 270. BartyED sits at AED 650 for premium named tutors. In-home one-to-one visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 by independent home tutors. Monthly, Bestimate estimates a weekly hour at AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work, with packages advertised around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Where currency justifies the specialist band: anything touching the internally assessed component, because that is where a wrong rubric costs 20 per cent of a grade rather than a few marks; and past-paper diagnosis, because reading a script usefully requires knowing which paper it came from and what that paper rewards. Where it does not: content explanation of material that did not change. A competent tutor at the mid band explaining bonding or kinematics is giving you the same thing as a specialist at twice the price, because the physics did not move.

Where no premium is justified at all is the final fortnight's technique practice, which is the student's own work, and homework supervision, which is what the budget band actually sells and is sometimes exactly the right purchase. None of these are IB Gram prices - we publish no rate card on a landing page, hold no office or centre in the UAE, and claim no approval, accreditation or licence from the International Baccalaureate, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge International or Pearson.

Oud Metha has the shortest drive in Old Dubai, and online still wins

This is the one district where the in-home argument is at its strongest, so it deserves a fair hearing. Oud Metha sits inside the school belt with large schools within walking distance, so commutes are short, children get home early, and a tutor travelling here faces an easier journey than one heading for Al Nahda. If distance were the only consideration, this is where in-home would make most sense.

Our position remains what it is, stated before payment rather than after: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we provide only in India. Every lesson for an Oud Metha family is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. We hold no office, centre or branch in the UAE either, so there is nowhere to visit. We put this on the page because two providers ranking for these searches route UAE parents to overseas phone numbers without disclosing where their tutors actually sit.

And the reason the short drive does not change the answer is the whole subject of this page. The binding constraint is not travel time; it is whether anybody available is current on your child's subject guide. Shortening the radius from twenty minutes to ten makes the pool smaller, not larger, and currency on a guide revised two years ago is not distributed geographically. For Higher Level Chemistry on the current guide, or Theory of Knowledge with the exhibition component, the question is not who can get here but who has taught this version, and those are different lists.

What the short Oud Metha commute does genuinely buy is the best scheduling position in Old Dubai. A 4pm or 4.30pm start is realistic here in a way it is not in Karama or Al Nahda, which means a session can happen before fatigue sets in and before a shared study surface is contested. That is a real advantage and it applies equally to an online session. Use it: claim the early slot at the start of term, choose it against the worst realistic day rather than the best, and agree in advance that it shifts during Ramadan when school days shorten.

Permits, claims and the dates we will not print

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit: free, two years, Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • No official fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you
  • IB Gram holds no regulator or board accreditation and no UAE premises
  • No IB session or results dates appear here; confirm them with your coordinator

A page about verifying tutors should be verifiable itself, so here is everything checkable about our position. Private tutoring in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees and states a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published officially, nobody should quote you an amount.

Add that to your currency questions, because it is the easiest one to verify and the permit is free, which removes any cost excuse for not holding one. One related rule: in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct likewise bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. In a district like Oud Metha where the schools are a short walk away, that is the arrangement most likely to be offered informally and it is the one to decline.

On accreditation: IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, certification, licence or partnership from the International Baccalaureate, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge International or Pearson. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai - initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry - and we do not hold one. Anyone implying such approval should be asked for the permit or centre number.

Three further absences, each deliberate. There is no IB examination or results date on this page, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date in a Diploma plan is a date a family acts on - take every date from your coordinator or ibo.org. There is no satisfaction percentage, star rating or tutor headcount, because none could carry a sample size, a date and a method. And we do not publish or redistribute IB subject guides, assessment criteria documents, past papers or mark schemes as downloads; we reference them and cite the source, because they are the IB's copyright. We also do not write, co-write or edit to completion any part of an internally assessed component - we teach, question and give feedback on the student's own work, and one provider ranking in this market sells completed internal assessments outright.

KHDA, the mandatory subjects and the week behind the question

  • KHDA oversees Dubai private education quality on a six-band inspection scale
  • Three new IB schools join the 2026-27 intake, improving the pool over years not terms
  • Mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies run alongside the Diploma
  • Sometimes the right first move is free school support rather than a purchase

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate and inspects on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak. In 2024-25 the sector was 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering seventeen different curricula, with UK curriculum at 37 per cent of students, Indian at 26 per cent and US at 14 per cent. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools - four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate - creating 16,846 new places, after six opened in 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent.

That last figure is relevant to the currency problem in a slow way. More IB provision in Dubai means, over several years, more teachers with recent experience of current guides, which gradually improves the local pool. It does not help a family deciding this term, and it does not help in Oud Metha specifically, where the nearest Diploma provision is across the creek.

The timetable facts matter to the week any tutoring has to fit into. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever international curriculum the school is licensed for, under KHDA requirements implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and KHDA advises that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and requires teachers of those subjects to hold the appropriate KHDA approval. For the mandatory subjects, using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited.

Put those hours beside six Diploma subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, and the week is full. A student in Oud Metha who says there is no time is usually describing arithmetic. In that situation the useful first move may be the school's own free departmental support, or a conversation with the coordinator about an internal deadline, rather than a purchase. We would rather name that than sell against it, and a two or three session diagnosis will tell you which it is.

Where we tutor

Oud Metha and the districts around it

Oud Metha sits inside the school belt, with several large schools within walking distance. That changes the scheduling picture and, as it turns out, not the syllabus-currency picture at all.

Oud Metha

Schools within walking distance and the shortest commutes in Old Dubai, which makes an early-evening session genuinely available. What it does not produce is a local supply of tutors current on a revised Diploma guide.

Al Mankhool

A short distance west with its own school cluster, mostly British and Indian curriculum. More schools nearby means more IGCSE supply, which is a different market from Diploma subject currency.

Bur Dubai

Immediately adjacent, served by the same schools, and the same answer to the currency question. For a Diploma subject the available pool from either address is identical.

Karama

A few minutes inland, dense flats, shared study surfaces. Families here face the same currency problem and a tighter physical constraint on where a session can happen.

Al Garhoud

Across the creek near the airport and the nearest real IB provision to Oud Metha. A school running the Diploma does not create a market of independent tutors current on each subject guide in that postcode.

Deira

The north bank, with an unpredictable afternoon crossing. The one district where the travel argument against an in-home arrangement is strongest, in either direction.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

A large British and Indian curriculum belt towards Sharjah, deep in IGCSE and thin in IB. The longest commutes, and the least likely source of a Diploma specialist on a current guide.

Al Jaffiliya and Satwa

Between Bur Dubai and Jumeirah, mixed housing, short runs to two clusters. Households with children on two curricula have two currency checks to run rather than one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Oud Metha

Oud Metha, Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai

The nearest cluster and the densest school provision in Old Dubai, predominantly British and Indian curriculum. The relevant point for this page is that the school itself is the authority on which subject guide your child is on, and the coordinator will answer that in one email.

  • The Indian High School, Dubai
  • St Mary's Catholic High School
  • Dubai Gem Private School
  • Dubai English Speaking School
  • Ambassador School, Al Mankhool

Al Garhoud, Deira and Al Mamzar

The nearest IB provision to Oud Metha and where most local Diploma students study. Worth naming because it is the cluster families assume will supply current Diploma tutors, and proximity to a programme is not the same as currency in a subject.

  • Deira International School
  • Al Ittihad Private School, Al Mamzar
  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud
  • The Indian Academy, Dubai

Schools are named only as context for the local education market. IB Gram has no affiliation with, partnership with, or endorsement from any school listed here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Email the coordinator before the tutor

Ask for the subject guide version and first-assessment year for each subject, the internally assessed component and its weighting, the school's internal deadlines, and whether any subject is in a transition cohort. Five answers in one message, and they change who you should hire.

  2. 02

    Run the four currency questions

What is the internally assessed component and how is it marked; how many papers and what is in each; which content is optional; name the top-level structure of the course. Ask us the same. A current tutor passes in two minutes and nobody minds being checked.

  3. 03

Check what the school already provides free

Oud Metha sits inside the school belt, so departmental revision sessions and teacher availability are easy to reach. Establish what exists before paying anybody. If the free option covers the ground, we will say so rather than take the booking.

  4. 04

A free trial against the current criteria

One session at no cost with the tutor you would continue with, spent on a marked script or a live internal assessment draft and read against the current guide's criteria. You get a written note of what was found either way.

  5. 05

    Claim the early slot

The short Oud Metha commute makes a 4pm or 4.30pm start genuinely available, which is the best scheduling position in Old Dubai. Book it at the start of term, choose it against the worst realistic day, and agree now that it shifts during Ramadan.

  6. 06

Review against the school's next assessment

Progress is the next school assessment in that subject, judged against the current criteria, not a tutor's impression. If it did not move we change the tutor or the approach rather than adding hours, and when a component is submitted the block ends.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We match on the current guide

A tutor whose recent teaching predates a guide revision is working from a structure that has changed, and we disclose that rather than letting a family discover it in session four. For the internally assessed components it is the difference between preparing 20 per cent of a grade and preparing nothing.

We hand over the test rather than ask for trust

The four currency questions on this page work on us as well as on anybody local. We would rather be checked than believed, because a claim about syllabus knowledge is exactly the sort of claim a parent has no independent way to verify otherwise.

We point at the school first

The coordinator is the authority on which guide applies and the school often already runs free support that covers the ground. In a district inside the school belt that matters, and we will say when the free option looks adequate rather than selling around it.

An honest no on thin specialisms

Where we cannot match a tutor current on the right guide - some Group 3 options, Group 6 arts subjects, less commonly taught languages - we decline rather than offer an approximate match. In a precision subject an approximate match costs weeks as well as money.

A written boundary on assessed work

We teach, question and give feedback on the student's own internally assessed work, and we produce no part of it. That is written down before any such work starts, because under IB academic honesty rules the consequence of crossing it falls on the student.

Figures attributed, dates omitted, no premises claimed

Every AED range names its publisher and the month it was read. No IB examination date appears, because the IB's own site blocks the verification. We hold no office in the UAE and claim no approval from the IB, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the Ministry of Education.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Oud Metha: your questions answered

How do I know whether a tutor knows the current IB syllabus?+

Ask four questions about structure rather than content, because structure is what a stale tutor gets wrong. What is the internally assessed component and how is it marked? How many papers does my child sit and what is in each? Which content is optional - in the current science guides the correct answer is none, because options were removed. And name the top-level structure of the course. A current tutor answers all four without hesitation, because those facts determine how they teach.

Which IB subjects have had their guides rewritten recently?+

The sciences most visibly: the current Biology, Chemistry and Physics guides were published in 2023 and first assessed in 2025, removing optional topics, reorganising content and consolidating the internal assessment into a single scientific investigation worth 20 per cent. Economics was rebuilt around key concepts with a new internal assessment framing. Theory of Knowledge replaced its presentation with an exhibition. Language A moved to an individual oral on a global issue. History has been comparatively stable. Confirm which version applies with your school's IB coordinator.

What exactly does a tutor get wrong if they are using an old guide?+

Usually not the facts, which is why it is hard to spot. The explanations and worked examples are often right. What is wrong is the structure: which content is examinable, how the papers are built and what the internally assessed component is. A tutor preparing a student for a removed option topic has wasted the hours. One coaching the wrong internal assessment rubric has misprepared 20 per cent of a science grade. One imposing an old teaching sequence leaves this term's assessment unprepared.

Should I trust another parent's tutor recommendation in Oud Metha?+

Take it, then verify it. A recommendation encodes an experience from one to three years ago, in one subject, at one level, under whatever guide was then in force, for whatever need that family had. All four can differ from your case, and the course may have been rewritten underneath the advice without anyone noticing. The recommendation is honest and may have quietly expired. Add one step: run the four currency questions and check the answers against what your coordinator confirms.

What should I ask my child's IB coordinator?+

Five things in one email. The subject guide version and first-assessment year for each of the six subjects. The internally assessed component for each, and its weighting. The school's internal deadlines for those components, since those are the dates that actually govern the year. The Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay internal deadlines. And whether any subject is in a transition cohort, because that is where confusion concentrates. Those answers do more than most first tutoring sessions.

Does syllabus currency really change what happens in a session?+

In three observable ways. A current tutor frames the internally assessed component by its real criteria from the first minute - for the current sciences, research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation - and asks early about instrument resolution against the expected change. Their past-paper work matches the paper actually sat, so they drill the data-based section rather than only content recall. And their teaching sequence follows the school's, because the content order changed in the revision and they recognise it.

Is it worth paying a specialist rate just for syllabus currency?+

For some work, decisively. Anything touching the internally assessed component justifies the specialist band, because a wrong rubric costs 20 per cent of a grade rather than a few marks. So does past-paper diagnosis, since reading a script usefully requires knowing which paper it came from. For explaining content that did not change - bonding, kinematics - a competent mid-band tutor gives you the same thing, because the physics did not move. For final-fortnight technique practice, no premium is justified at all.

Oud Metha has schools within walking distance. Why not use a local tutor?+

The short drive is a genuine advantage of this district and it does not address the binding constraint. Whether somebody is current on your child's subject guide is not distributed geographically, and narrowing the radius from twenty minutes to ten makes the available pool smaller rather than larger. What the short commute does buy is the best scheduling position in Old Dubai - a 4pm or 4.30pm start is realistic here - and that advantage applies just as fully to an online session.

Do you provide a tutor who comes to our home in Oud Metha?+

No. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Every lesson for an Oud Metha family is one-to-one over live video in a Gulf Standard Time slot, and we state that before you pay. We also hold no office, centre or branch in the UAE, so there is nowhere to visit. Two providers ranking for these searches route UAE parents to overseas phone numbers without disclosing where their tutors sit.

Could the school's own support be enough instead of tutoring?+

Sometimes, and in a district inside the school belt it is worth checking first. Departmental revision sessions, after-school support and teacher availability are physically easy to reach from Oud Metha, and they cost nothing. Establish what the school already runs before paying anybody. We would rather a family used a free departmental session than bought an hour from us covering the same ground, and we will say so where the free option looks adequate for what is actually wrong.

What is the Theory of Knowledge exhibition, and why does it matter here?+

It is one of the two assessed Theory of Knowledge components: three objects presented against a prompt, alongside the essay on a prescribed title. It replaced an earlier presentation format, which makes it one of the easiest stale-syllabus errors for a parent to detect without any subject knowledge - ask a tutor what the non-essay Theory of Knowledge component is. Exhibition is current; presentation is not. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together contribute up to 3 points through a published matrix.

My child had a tutor last year and it did not help. Why might that be?+

The most common explanation we see is not teaching quality but alignment. A tutor working from a superseded guide imposes their own teaching sequence, which no longer matches the school's reorganised content order, so the student is taught next term's material while this term's assessment goes unprepared. The second most common is that the hours went to a component already closed, or to the wrong component entirely. A two or three session diagnostic, read against the current criteria, usually identifies which happened.

Does the same currency problem apply to IGCSE tutors?+

Yes, and it is easier to check. Cambridge and Pearson revise syllabuses too - Cambridge Mathematics 0580 now sets a non-calculator paper worth half the grade, which a tutor working from older practice will not have prepared a student for. The advantage is that syllabus codes and first-examination years are published and searchable, and the code is printed on the exam entry. So the verification is the same conversation with a firmer evidence base behind it.

Are there IB subjects where currency is not a concern?+

Yes, and it is worth saying so rather than treating every tutor as suspect. History, for example, has had a comparatively stable structure, so a tutor with experience from several years ago is likely to be working from substantially the same assessment architecture. The risk is not uniform across subjects. That is precisely why the first step is asking the coordinator for the guide version and first-assessment year per subject - it tells you where to be careful and where to relax.

Can a tutor help with the scientific investigation under the current guide?+

Within a clear boundary, yes. A tutor can interrogate the research question, ask whether the dependent variable can be measured precisely enough against the instrument's resolution, teach uncertainty propagation and graph technique, explain what each of the four criteria rewards, and give feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor cannot design the experiment, collect or process the data, or write any part of the report. We put that boundary in writing before any investigation work begins, because the consequence of crossing it falls on the student.

How can I verify a tutor is legally allowed to teach privately in Dubai?+

Ask directly - add it to the currency questions, since it is the easiest one to check. Private tutoring in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. The permit costs nothing, so there is no excuse for not holding one.

Verify, then hire - including us

The worry behind the search is legitimate: several IB subject guides have been rewritten, and a tutor working from the previous version teaches a structure that has moved. Two steps settle it. Email your child's IB coordinator for the guide version, first-assessment year and internally assessed component for each subject. Then put the four currency questions on this page to any prospective tutor, us included - a current one passes in two minutes. After that, take the free trial lesson: one hour, no cost, with the tutor you would continue with, spent on a marked script or a live draft read against the current criteria. All lessons for Oud Metha families are one-to-one over live video, and we do not send tutors to UAE addresses.
