IB Chemistry Tutor in Oud Metha

Hiring an IB chemistry tutor in Oud Metha is a budgeting decision before it is an academic one. Market rates across Dubai run from AED 45 an hour at the student-tutor end to AED 650 for a named premium name, and the gap buys very different things. This page prices the options, shows where Oud Metha parents lose money, and explains how IB Gram delivers one-to-one Chemistry teaching over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Oud Metha

What you are actually paying for when you hire a Chemistry tutor

Start with the arithmetic, because it is the part nobody publishes. A Higher Level Chemistry student in Year 12 who takes one weekly hour from October to the May session of Year 13 will sit through roughly sixty hours of tuition. At the budget end of the Dubai market, around AED 45 to 65 an hour as advertised by EdFlik, that is a commitment near AED 3,000. At a specialist rate of AED 270, the figure TutorChase publishes, the same sixty hours cost about AED 16,200. At the premium end BartyED quotes, AED 650, it passes AED 39,000. Those are four very different family decisions wearing the same words: a Chemistry tutor.

The honest answer is that the hourly number tells you almost nothing on its own. What matters is how many of those hours are spent on Chemistry a student cannot already do. A cheap tutor who re-teaches bonding because bonding is the topic they remember best is expensive at AED 45. A tutor who opens with a diagnostic on energetics and equilibria, finds that the student loses marks on enthalpy cycles rather than on definitions, and spends six weeks there is cheap at AED 270. The waste in this market is not overpriced hours. It is correctly priced hours aimed at the wrong topic.

Oud Metha sharpens this because of geography. The neighbourhood sits between Dubai Healthcare City, Al Jaddaf and the Bur Dubai school corridor, with the Red Line running through it and Al Garhoud Bridge carrying most of the Festival City traffic. A tutor who drives to an Oud Metha apartment at 5pm on a Tuesday is billing for an hour and spending close to two. Somebody pays for that difference, and in every in-home rate card published in Dubai it is the parent. Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, with independent home tutors quoting up to AED 500, against AED 150 to 300 for the same qualified tutor working online.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. For a family in Oud Metha this is the cheaper arrangement and the better one on the academic merits. The pool is no longer every Chemistry graduate living within a twenty-minute drive of Al Nasr Leisureland. It is every Chemistry specialist who can teach at 5pm Gulf Standard Time, which is a different and much larger set, and it includes people who have taught the organic mechanism sequence thirty times rather than twice.

What follows is a cost page, not a brochure. It lists the AED bands with the source that published them, counts the two-year Diploma spend backwards from the May session, separates the parts of the Chemistry grade that respond to tuition from the parts that do not, and states plainly what a tutor may and may not do with an internal assessment. Every figure carries an attribution. None of them is an IB Gram price list, because IB Gram starts with a free trial lesson and a conversation about the student's actual mark profile rather than a rate card.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry does not begin in DP1. An Oud Metha student arriving at Higher Level has usually come through MYP Sciences or an IGCSE Chemistry course, and the cost of DP Chemistry tuition is largely set by how well that earlier stage was taught. These are the stages, and what each one costs a family to repair later.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP has no Chemistry. It has inquiry units that touch materials, change and matter, and it builds the habit of recording what happened rather than what was expected. Families rarely buy PYP science tuition and rarely need to. Where money is well spent at this stage it is on written English and on arithmetic fluency, both of which show up later as marks lost in Chemistry calculation questions.

Swiss International Scientific School in Al Jaddaf, a short drive from Oud Metha over Oud Metha Road, runs the PYP, and several Bur Dubai families use it as the primary feeder before an IB continuum. KHDA inspects it annually on the six-band Outstanding to Very Weak scale, and the published report is the one document worth reading before paying for anything.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP Sciences is assessed against four criteria, each marked out of eight: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, reflecting on the impacts of science. Criterion C is where DP Chemistry trouble starts, because processing data and evaluating method is precisely what the DP internal assessment is marked on. A student who reaches MYP5 without a graph they built themselves will pay for it twice.

MYP tuition in the Bur Dubai belt is usually bought in panic in MYP5, when the DP subject choice sheet arrives. Bought in MYP3 instead, at around AED 150 to 250 an hour for a qualified online tutor, it costs less in total and removes the need for the DP1 catch-up block entirely. That is the single largest saving available on this page.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

DP Chemistry is where the money goes. Under the syllabus first examined in 2025 the course is organised around structure and reactivity, with Paper 1 split into multiple choice and a data-based section, Paper 2 carrying extended response, and a scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade. Higher Level adds depth rather than new headings, which is why HL students often cannot name what they do not know.

Dubai is a Diploma market in a British-curriculum city. KHDA's 2024-25 figures put 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering seventeen curricula, with UK 37%, Indian 26%, US 14% and International Baccalaureate 7%. Confirm your child's exact paper structure and weightings with the school's IB coordinator and the current subject guide, since the figures above describe the 2025 first-examination course.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP pairs DP courses with a career-related study and is offered by a small number of UAE schools. A CP student taking DP Chemistry sits exactly the same papers and the same investigation as a full Diploma candidate, so the tutoring need is identical and so is the cost. What differs is the surrounding load, which is lighter, and that usually means fewer hours are needed overall.

CP provision in Dubai is thin and families in Oud Metha generally choose between the full Diploma and a British A Level route instead. If the CP is on the table, ask the school which DP subjects it actually timetables before budgeting for Chemistry tuition, because a course listed in a brochure is not always a course running in September.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Chemistry is rarely bought alone. Most Oud Metha students who need a Chemistry tutor need one because the HL block they chose is quantitatively heavy, and the cost of the whole block is the number that matters. These are the subjects we teach alongside it, with what each one actually assesses.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The reactivity sequence is where marks go: enthalpy cycles, entropy and spontaneity, equilibrium shifts under changed conditions, and the organic mechanism chains. Definitions are cheap marks and most students already have them. Tuition that stays on definitions is the most common waste in this subject.

Biology

HL and SL

Taken with Chemistry by nearly every medicine applicant in the Bur Dubai belt. The marks lost are in experimental design and statistical reasoning rather than recall, which means one tutor can often cover the method half of both subjects and halve the hourly spend.

Physics

HL and SL

Shares the uncertainty and significant-figure conventions with Chemistry, so the data-handling work transfers. Where it diverges is algebraic fluency: a Physics HL student who cannot rearrange confidently loses marks in every topic, which no amount of content revision fixes.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The course most Chemistry HL students are also taking. Logarithms, exponentials and rates of change appear in both, and a student weak on logs will struggle with pH and with rate equations simultaneously. Fixing it once is cheaper than fixing it in two subjects separately.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistics-heavy route, and the better fit for a Chemistry student heading into health sciences rather than engineering. Check the admissions pages of the universities on your child's list before switching, because some engineering faculties still ask for Analysis and Approaches.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL only

Counts in either the sciences or the individuals and societies group, which makes it the standard load-reducer for a student carrying Chemistry HL. The assessment rewards systems reasoning and the handling of real data, so the skills overlap with Chemistry more than the title suggests.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

A genuine science option for a student who wants the physiology without the Chemistry calculation load. Students who take it alongside Chemistry SL often find the biochemistry sections mutually reinforcing, which is a saving rather than a duplication.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The written component that quietly sets the ceiling on every science extended response. A Chemistry student who cannot structure a paragraph under time pressure loses Paper 2 marks that look like content gaps and are not.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Assessed by exhibition and essay. The exhibition is the component Chemistry students handle well, because an experiment is a ready-made object for a knowledge question. Support here is process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafting.

Extended Essay

Core

A Chemistry EE is the highest-risk choice in the Diploma because a weak research question produces a weak essay however good the laboratory work. The tutor's job is to interrogate the question in week one and then review the student's own drafts, never to produce text.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Several Oud Metha families arrive at DP Chemistry from an IGCSE Chemistry course at a Bur Dubai British-curriculum school. The transition gap is real and it costs money to close late, so these are the IGCSE science courses we also cover.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Extended tier is the only sensible route into DP Chemistry. The mole concept, electrolysis and organic families are the three topics that decide whether DP1 begins smoothly or begins with a four-week repair block.

Chemistry (Pearson 4CH1)

Single tier

Pearson's International GCSE Chemistry sits in one tier with two papers. The practical content is examined within the written papers rather than separately, which changes how a student should revise method and apparatus.

Combined Science (Cambridge 0653)

Core and Extended

Covers all three sciences at reduced depth. A student who took Combined Science and then chose Chemistry HL has a real content gap, and pretending otherwise is how DP1 goes wrong in October.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

Paired with Chemistry by most pre-medicine students. The marks lost are in genetics calculation and in extended-response structure, both of which transfer directly to DP Biology.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Electricity and waves dominate the lost marks. The unit-conversion discipline built here is the same discipline Chemistry calculation questions demand, so the two courses reward joint attention.

Mathematics (Pearson 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

Higher tier is the prerequisite most Bur Dubai schools apply before allowing DP sciences. Standard form, ratio and algebraic rearrangement are the Chemistry-critical strands.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are available, and they differ in price as much as in method. The figures below are market rates published by named providers in October 2026, not IB Gram prices; our own arrangement starts with a free trial lesson.

Weekly one-to-one Chemistry, live online

A fixed slot each week on Gulf Standard Time, screen-shared, with the student working problems rather than watching them worked. This is the format IB Gram delivers to Oud Metha, and the market band for a qualified subject tutor working this way runs roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing from AED 200 for IB.

  • Diagnostic in session one, before any topic is chosen
  • One recurring weekday slot, typically 4.30pm to 7pm
  • Past-paper questions attempted cold, then marked together
  • Written note after each session naming the next target

Intensive blocks before a paper

Two or three sessions a week across a fixed four to eight week window, used ahead of mocks or the May session. The hourly rate does not change but the total does, so this is a planned spend rather than a standing one. Families who use blocks well tend to spend less across two years than families on a permanent weekly slot.

  • Built backwards from the school's own mock dates
  • One full paper sat under timed conditions each week
  • Topic selection driven by the mark breakdown, not the syllabus order
  • Ends on a stated date rather than drifting

Investigation and coursework review

Scheduled sessions around the scientific investigation and, where relevant, a Chemistry extended essay. The work is the student's throughout. The tutor interrogates the research question, challenges the method, and gives written feedback on the student's own drafts, which is what IB academic-honesty rules permit and what the student's declaration requires.

  • Research question pressure-tested before any data is collected
  • Variable control and uncertainty handling reviewed early
  • Feedback on the student's draft, never text supplied for it
  • Word limit and criterion coverage checked against the subject guide

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Oud Metha

01

What an IB Chemistry tutor in Oud Metha costs, in AED

  • Budget online tier: AED 45-150 an hour, usually a university student
  • Qualified subject tutor online: AED 150-300 an hour
  • In-home one-to-one including travel: AED 180-500 an hour
  • IB and IGCSE specialist: AED 200-450 and above
  • Premium named tutor: AED 500-650 and above

A qualified IB Chemistry tutor working online to an Oud Metha family is quoted across the Dubai market at roughly AED 150 to 300 per sixty-minute session, reviewed October 2026. The same tutor travelling to the apartment is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate's 2026 rate table, and independent home tutors advertise up to AED 500. The spread is not a quality signal. It is mostly the price of a car in Bur Dubai traffic.

The table below puts the published bands side by side with the provider that published each one. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this project quote no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, a currency no Dubai family transacts in. Nothing here is an IB Gram rate card; our pricing follows a free trial lesson and a conversation about the student's mark profile, because an hourly figure quoted before anyone has seen a past paper is a guess.

Read the right-hand column before the left. A monthly figure is what a family actually budgets, and Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Monthly packages advertised in Dubai include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, which is the clearest published statement of what the travel premium costs.

02

Four ways Oud Metha families waste money on Chemistry tuition

The first is paying for content a student already holds. Chemistry students are good at the parts of the course that can be read, and the parts that can be read are what an unprepared tutor teaches. A session that re-covers bonding and intermolecular forces because those are the first chapters feels productive and moves nothing. Ask for the diagnostic before you ask for the rate.

The second is buying hours instead of buying a target. A standing weekly slot with no stated end point runs for two years and costs between AED 9,000 and AED 36,000 depending on tier, and nobody involved has to decide whether it worked. A block with a named objective, such as recovering the data-based section of Paper 1 before the February mock, can be judged. If a block fails, you stop. If a standing slot fails, you keep paying.

The third is the travel premium bought by accident. Families in Karama and Al Mankhool often pay in-home rates because an in-home tutor was the first one who answered, not because the format was chosen. The published gap between an online qualified tutor and an in-home one, AED 150 to 300 against AED 180 to 500, is money that buys no additional teaching. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE at all, which removes the decision.

The fourth is leaving the investigation until February of DP2. The scientific investigation is a fifth of the Chemistry grade and the only component where a student controls the conditions entirely. Supported early, it is the cheapest grade movement in the subject. Supported late, it becomes a rescue job at exam-season rates while Paper 2 revision is also due.

03

What the Chemistry grade is made of, component by component

Before buying hours, know what they can move. Under the Chemistry syllabus first examined in 2025 the externally assessed papers carry eighty per cent of the grade and the scientific investigation carries twenty. Paper 1 is split between multiple choice and a data-based section; Paper 2 is extended response. Higher Level sits the same structure with longer papers and greater depth. Confirm the exact durations and weightings for your child's cohort with the school's IB coordinator and the current subject guide, because the IB revises these.

The useful consequence is that the three components fail for three different reasons, and therefore respond to three different kinds of teaching. Multiple choice is lost to misread stems and arithmetic slips under time pressure, which is drilled rather than taught. The data-based section is lost to uncertainty handling and graph interpretation, which is a method problem. Paper 2 is lost to structure: students who know the chemistry write two sentences where the mark scheme wants four steps.

A tutor who treats all three as one subject will spend your money on content. The right sequence for most Oud Metha students is to fix Paper 2 structure first, because it is the largest single weighting and the fastest to move; then the data-based section, because it shares its skills with the investigation and so pays twice; then multiple choice, which needs volume rather than insight and can be done in the last six weeks.

04

The travel premium, priced for this part of Dubai

An in-home Chemistry tutor serving Oud Metha is solving a routing problem as much as a teaching one. The practical catchment from a Bur Dubai base is Karama, Al Mankhool, Oud Metha, Al Jaddaf and perhaps Al Garhoud before the bridge becomes the limiting factor. A tutor who accepts a 5pm in Oud Metha and a 7pm in Al Qusais is committing to a drive that can take forty minutes in either direction, and the rate card absorbs it.

That is the arithmetic behind the published monthly packages. AED 799 a month for eight online sessions is close to AED 100 a session. AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions is AED 200 to 225 an hour before anyone has taught anything. The teaching in both cases can be identical; one of them includes a car.

The consequence for a Chemistry student specifically is a narrower choice of teacher. HL Chemistry with strong organic mechanism teaching and real experience of the scientific investigation is a specialism, not a general science competence. Within a twenty-minute drive of Oud Metha the number of people who hold it is small, and smaller again once you filter for somebody free in the one window your family can actually use. Across the pool of tutors who can teach at 5pm Gulf Standard Time it is not small at all, and that difference is what the online format actually buys. It is not a compromise on the in-home option; it is the reason to prefer it. A family paying the travel premium is paying for a shorter shortlist.

Organic chemistry, energetics, and the two topics that eat a budget

  • Organic mechanisms: reagent and condition recall, with arrows drawn by the student
  • Energetics: sign conventions before content, twenty cycles minimum
  • Equilibrium: quantitative application rather than the recited principle
  • Periodicity and bonding: usually already secure, rarely worth paid hours
  • Measurement and uncertainty: pays twice, in Paper 1B and in the investigation

Ask a Chemistry teacher where a Diploma cohort loses marks and the answer narrows quickly. Organic chemistry is first, not because the content is hard to read but because it is a sequence: reagent, condition, mechanism, product, and a student who has learned the products without the conditions answers half of every question. The repair is mechanism-by-mechanism practice with the arrows drawn by the student, which takes weeks and cannot be compressed into the fortnight before a paper.

Energetics and thermodynamics is second. Enthalpy cycles, bond enthalpies, entropy and the spontaneity condition are all arithmetic sitting on top of a sign convention, and the sign convention is where it collapses. A student who is confident on the definitions and wrong on the signs looks like a student who needs more content. They need twenty worked cycles and someone watching the signs.

Equilibrium is the third, and it is the one most often mistaught cheaply. Le Chatelier's principle can be recited in a sentence, which makes it feel covered. Applying it to a changed condition in a real system, and then connecting it to the equilibrium constant quantitatively, is a different skill, and it is the skill Paper 2 asks for. Students who can state the principle and cannot calculate with it typically score the first mark of a five-mark question and stop.

These three topics between them account for most of the hours an Oud Metha family will usefully buy. A tutor who proposes to start anywhere else should be asked why, and the answer should be a mark breakdown rather than a syllabus order. There is one honourable exception: measurement, uncertainty and significant figures. That work is dull, it is quick, and it pays in two places at once, because the same discipline is assessed in the data-based section of Paper 1 and in the analysis criterion of the investigation. It is the best-value fortnight on the whole course.

06

The scientific investigation: what a tutor may and may not touch

The Chemistry investigation is worth a fifth of the grade and is marked against criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The student signs a declaration that the work is their own. A tutor who drafts text, builds the graphs or rewrites the evaluation has created an academic-honesty breach that sits on the student's record, not the tutor's, and under IB rules the consequence can reach the whole Diploma.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial, and families are often surprised by how much of it there is. The research question can be challenged hard before any data exists, which is where most weak investigations are saved. The method can be interrogated for uncontrolled variables and insufficient range. Uncertainty treatment can be taught as a skill. The student's own draft can be read and returned with written feedback naming what a criterion is asking for and where the draft does not answer it.

This boundary is also a commercial point worth stating plainly, because this search result contains providers who cross it. One operator found during research for this project sells completed internal assessments outright at AED 3,750. That is not expensive tutoring; it is a malpractice trigger for the student and the end of the Diploma if it is detected. IB Gram does not write, complete or supply assessed work in any subject, and no reputable tutor in Dubai will either.

There is a budgeting point buried in the boundary. Because the permitted work is front-loaded, the investigation is cheapest to support early and most expensive to support late. Challenging a research question takes one session. Rescuing a finished investigation with a weak question takes several, produces less, and lands in the same weeks as Paper 2 revision at the highest intensity of the two years. An Oud Metha family that books two investigation sessions in DP1 term three usually spends less in total than one that books six in DP2 term two, and the earlier version is the one that moves the mark.

07

Mandatory UAE subjects sit on top of the Chemistry timetable

Every Dubai private school, whatever curriculum it is licensed for, teaches Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies. KHDA's mandatory-subjects guidance states these requirements must be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, with April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. For a DP Chemistry student this is not a footnote. It is timetable time that cannot be given back, and it changes how much homework space exists on a Tuesday.

The organisational rules are specific. KHDA requires separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, and the school's licensed-curriculum language applies for non-Arabs. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, and KHDA advises that no mandatory-subject lesson should run shorter than twenty-five minutes.

Two practical consequences follow for a family budgeting Chemistry tuition in Oud Metha. First, schools must ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects, which is a credential a parent can ask about directly. Second, for the mandatory subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited, so Arabic support has to work with the school's own material rather than around it. Budget for it separately from Chemistry; the two needs rarely share a tutor.

08

Counting the Diploma spend backwards from the May session

UAE schools sit the May session, and the whole two-year budget should be built backwards from it rather than forwards from September. IB exam and results dates are not restated here: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and a date a parent acts on must come from the school's IB coordinator or ibo.org directly. What can be planned without a date is the order of the work.

Working backwards, the final eight weeks before the session are for timed papers and multiple-choice volume, at the highest hourly intensity and therefore the highest cost. The term before that is for Paper 2 structure and the remaining content gaps. The investigation should already be submitted internally by then, which means the investigation window belongs to DP2 term one at the latest and ideally DP1 term three. DP1 is for the three topics named earlier and for the measurement discipline that feeds both Paper 1B and the investigation.

For IGCSE siblings in the same household the dates are available and sourced. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series; the February and March series is offered to India only and does not apply to UAE candidates. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 Pearson results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, since it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

  • KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi, SPEA in Sharjah, MoE in Ajman, UAQ and Fujairah
  • KHDA inspection reports are published and free to read before any transfer

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees, states a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Two things follow for an Oud Metha parent. The permit is free, so a tutor who cites a permit fee as a reason for a higher rate is mistaken. And individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you either. Ask to see the permit. It costs the tutor nothing to hold and nothing to show.

On the regulatory side, Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall to ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there; Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority; Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge; and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah to the federal Ministry of Education. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which IB Gram does not hold and does not claim; IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB or Cambridge, and any provider telling you otherwise should be asked for the permit number.

Where we tutor

Oud Metha and the Old Dubai belt

Tutoring demand in this part of Dubai is set by two things: which school a family drives to, and how long that drive takes at 3pm. Each of these neighbourhoods feeds a different cluster, and each one changes what a realistic session time looks like.

Oud Metha

Dense low-rise apartments either side of Oud Metha Road, with the Red Line at Oud Metha and Dubai Healthcare City stations. Families here are typically within fifteen minutes of a Bur Dubai school and twenty-five of Festival City, so a 5pm online session is comfortable.

Al Mankhool

Immediately west across Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road, served by Al Fahidi and ADCB stations. Apartment living, large Indian and Arab expatriate population, and a school run that mostly stays inside Bur Dubai rather than crossing a bridge.

Karama

The most compact of the cluster, with the shortest school runs and the tightest parking. Karama families are the most price-sensitive in this belt, which is why the AED comparison table below matters more here than in Marina or Emirates Hills.

Bur Dubai

The historic core, with Al Fahidi and the Creek frontage. Several long-established Indian-curriculum schools sit here, so transition questions from CBSE into IGCSE or the MYP come up constantly in this postcode.

Al Garhoud

Across the Creek beside the airport, and the gateway to Festival City schooling. Al Garhoud Bridge is the constraint: a 3.15pm pickup in Festival City can reach Al Garhoud by 3.45pm or by 4.30pm depending on the day.

Al Jaddaf

The newest part of the belt, with an IB continuum school on the doorstep and Dubai Healthcare City two minutes away. Sessions here can realistically start at 4.30pm because the school run is measured in minutes rather than bridges.

Al Qusais

Further out along the Green Line towards Sharjah, with a heavy concentration of Indian-curriculum provision. Families commuting from Al Qusais towards Bur Dubai schools lose the most time of anyone in this cluster, which makes an online slot the only workable one on weekdays.

Al Mamzar

Coastal, quieter, and close to the Sharjah border. Two long-established private schools sit within a few minutes, and the DP cohort here is small enough that specialist Chemistry teaching is genuinely scarce locally.

Oud Metha, Al Jaddaf and Healthcare City

The schools closest to an Oud Metha address, running a mix of British, Indian and full IB continuum provision. A DP Chemistry student in this cluster is usually at the IB continuum school or has crossed to Festival City for the Diploma.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the mark profile, not just the subject

A request that says Chemistry HL, lost marks concentrated in Paper 2 and organic, mock grade 4, is matched in a fraction of the time a request saying needs help with Chemistry takes. Send the most recent mark breakdown if you have one. It is the single most useful thing in the first message.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson, no payment discussed

The trial is a diagnostic. The tutor sets Chemistry problems across a few topics, watches where the method breaks rather than where the recall does, and reports what they found. If the match is wrong, you say so and nothing is owed. This is where the overpaying problem is solved, before money moves.

  3. 03

A written plan with a stated end point

After the trial you receive a short plan: the topics, the order, roughly how many sessions, and what the block is meant to achieve. A plan that cannot name its objective is a standing weekly slot in disguise, which is the most expensive way to buy tuition in this market.

  4. 04

A fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time

Lessons run live over video at a time chosen around the Bur Dubai school run, usually between 4.30pm and 7pm on a weekday. Ramadan timings shift to post-Iftar slots on request. Nobody drives anywhere, so a session that starts at 5pm starts at 5pm.

  5. 05

Review against the plan, then stop or continue

At the end of the block you get the mark evidence and a recommendation, including the recommendation to stop. A tutor who always recommends continuing is selling hours. Reviewing against a stated objective is what turns tuition from a subscription into a purchase.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The AED figures are published, with sources

Three of the six competitor pages researched for this project publish no price at all, and one asks the price in its own FAQ and declines to answer it. Every band on this page carries the name of the provider that published it and the month it was read. You can check them.

Specialist by paper, not by driving distance

An HL Chemistry student needs somebody who has taught the organic sequence and the scientific investigation repeatedly. Online delivery means the shortlist is drawn from everyone free at 5pm Gulf Standard Time rather than everyone within a twenty-minute drive of Oud Metha.

The academic-honesty line is stated, not implied

A tutor teaches, challenges and gives feedback on the student's own work. IB Gram does not write, complete or supply an investigation, extended essay or any assessed coursework, in Chemistry or anything else. In this search result that is a real distinction rather than a slogan.

A trial before any payment

One free lesson, used as a diagnostic, with a written report on what the tutor found. If the match is wrong you say so and nothing is owed. The condition is simply that it is one lesson per student.

Honest about what is not available

If no Chemistry HL specialist is free in the window you need, we say so and tell you when one is, rather than filling the slot with a general science tutor. Availability transparency is absent from every competitor page researched, and it is the fastest way for a family to waste a term.

Regulatory claims we can actually stand behind

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, Ministry of Education, IB or Cambridge approval and claims none. What we do is explain what each body governs and point you to its own pages, so you can verify a school, an inspection band or a tutor permit yourself.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Oud Metha: your questions answered

What does an online IB Chemistry tutor cost per hour in Oud Metha?+

Market rates in Dubai for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to 300 per sixty-minute session, reviewed October 2026. Unitors publishes from AED 200 for IB and from AED 150 for IGCSE; TutorChase publishes AED 270 for specialist support. Budget-tier online tutoring, usually delivered by university students, is advertised from AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik and from AED 33 to 52 by Tutopiya. Premium named tutors reach AED 650, as BartyED publishes. Those are other providers' figures, not ours. IB Gram starts with a free trial lesson and sets pricing after the diagnostic, because an hourly quote given before anyone has seen a past paper is guesswork.

Is it cheaper to use an online Chemistry tutor or hire one who comes to our apartment in Oud Metha?+

Online is cheaper, and the gap is almost entirely travel. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 an hour, and independent home tutors advertise up to AED 500, against AED 150 to 300 for an equivalently qualified tutor teaching online. The advertised monthly packages make it plainer still: AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE in any case, because every lesson is delivered live over video; home visits are an India-only service.

How many hours of Chemistry tuition will my child actually need?+

For a Higher Level student starting in DP1 with one weekly hour through to the May session of DP2, around sixty hours is realistic. That total is less important than its distribution. Most of the usable movement comes from three blocks: organic mechanisms and energetics in DP1, the scientific investigation across DP1 term three and DP2 term one, and timed paper practice in the final eight weeks. Families who buy a standing weekly slot for two years often pay for more hours and get less movement than families who buy three defined blocks with stated objectives and stop between them.

Which Chemistry topics do Dubai students lose the most marks on?+

Three, consistently. Organic chemistry, because it is a sequence of reagent, condition, mechanism and product, and students who learn products without conditions answer half of every question. Energetics and thermodynamics, because enthalpy cycles and entropy sit on a sign convention that collapses under pressure. Equilibrium, because Le Chatelier's principle is easy to recite and hard to apply quantitatively to a changed condition. Periodicity and bonding, which students expect to be the problem, are usually already secure. A tutor who proposes to begin with bonding is beginning with the content your child can already read.

Can a tutor help with the IB Chemistry scientific investigation?+

Yes, within a firm boundary. A tutor can challenge the research question before any data is collected, which is where most weak investigations are rescued. They can interrogate the method for uncontrolled variables and insufficient range, teach uncertainty treatment properly, and give written feedback on the student's own drafts against the assessment criteria. What a tutor must never do is write text, build the graphs or rewrite the evaluation. The student signs a declaration that the work is theirs, and a breach falls on the student's record. IB Gram does not write or supply assessed work in any subject.

How much of the IB Chemistry grade does the investigation carry?+

Twenty per cent, with the externally assessed papers carrying the other eighty under the syllabus first examined in 2025. Paper 1 is split between a multiple-choice section and a data-based section and carries 36 per cent; Paper 2 is extended response and carries 44 per cent. Higher Level sits the same structure with longer papers and greater depth. Confirm the exact durations and weightings for your child's cohort with the school's IB coordinator and the current subject guide, since the IB revises assessment structures between syllabus cycles and a figure read online can be a cycle out of date.

Does Chemistry HL cost more to support than Chemistry SL in Oud Metha?+

Usually yes, but through hours rather than rate; the published AED bands do not separate the two levels. HL adds depth inside the same topic headings rather than a long list of new ones, which is why HL students frequently cannot name what they are missing. The extra spend concentrates in organic chemistry, energetics and the quantitative treatment of equilibrium, and the papers are longer so timed practice takes more time. A student comfortable at SL moving up usually needs a method upgrade rather than a content sprint, which is a shorter and cheaper block than families expect.

My child is coming from Combined Science. Can they cope with Chemistry at Diploma level?+

It is possible but the gap is real and pretending otherwise is how DP1 goes wrong in October. Cambridge Combined Science covers all three sciences at reduced depth, so a student arrives without the full mole treatment, without electrolysis in detail and with thin organic coverage. The repair takes roughly four to six weeks of focused work and is far cheaper done in the summer before DP1 than in February of DP2. Ask the school's Chemistry department what entry profile they expect, then budget for the gap deliberately rather than discovering it in a mock.

Does the tutor permit add anything to what we pay in Oud Metha?+

No, because it is free. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published. Since the permit is free, ask to see it.

Which schools near Oud Metha offer the IB Diploma in Chemistry?+

The Diploma provision within reach of an Oud Metha address sits mainly across the Creek and in Al Jaddaf. Swiss International Scientific School in Al Jaddaf runs a full IB continuum; Deira International School and Universal American School in Dubai Festival City both offer the Diploma, reached via Al Garhoud Bridge. Within Oud Metha and Bur Dubai itself the provision is largely British and Indian curriculum, including St Mary's Catholic High School and The Indian High School. Check the current KHDA inspection report and the school's own subject list before assuming DP Chemistry is timetabled; a course in a brochure is not always a course running.

What time can a Chemistry session realistically start for a family in Oud Metha?+

For families whose school run stays inside Bur Dubai or Al Jaddaf, 4.30pm is workable and 5pm is comfortable. For families collecting from Dubai Festival City, Al Garhoud Bridge is the variable: a 3.15pm pickup can be home by 3.45pm or by 4.30pm depending on the day, so 5.30pm is the safer booking. Because lessons are delivered live online, no travel time is added at the tutor's end either, which is the practical reason a 5pm slot actually begins at 5pm. Ramadan sessions can move to post-Iftar timings on request.

Do tuition rates in Dubai go up closer to the exams?+

The published hourly bands do not generally change, but what families spend rises sharply because intensity rises. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at budget level and AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, while specialist exam-year support is estimated at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more a month. The increase is hours, not rate. The way to avoid it is to move the investigation work and the organic and energetics blocks into DP1, so the final eight weeks are timed paper practice rather than a content rescue at peak intensity.

Is Arabic or Islamic Education going to affect my child's Chemistry timetable?+

It affects the timetable, yes. Every Dubai private school teaches Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies regardless of its licensed curriculum, and KHDA's guidance required implementation by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, with April 2026 for April-start schools. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit and KHDA advises no mandatory-subject lesson runs under twenty-five minutes. Schools must also organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. Budget Arabic support separately; it rarely shares a tutor with Chemistry.

What happens if no Higher Level Chemistry specialist is free when we need one?+

We tell you, and we tell you when one is. The alternative, filling the slot with a general science tutor and hoping, costs a family a term and is the most common quiet failure in this market. No competitor page researched for this project discloses a coverage limit at all. If the window you need cannot be covered, the honest options are to shift the slot, to start with a defined block on the components that any strong science teacher can move such as measurement and uncertainty, or to wait. We will say which of the three we think applies.

Do you provide past papers, mark schemes or IB syllabus documents?+

No, and no reputable provider should. IB, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are copyright material, and reproducing or distributing them is infringement. What a tutor does is work with material the student legitimately holds through their school, cite the official source, and link you to it: ibo.org for the Diploma, cambridgeinternational.org for Cambridge qualifications and qualifications.pearson.com for Edexcel. Your child's school and its IB coordinator are the proper route to current subject guides and released papers.

Start with the diagnostic, then decide what to spend

The useful sequence for an Oud Metha family is small. Book the free trial lesson and let the tutor set Chemistry problems across organic, energetics and equilibrium rather than talk about method. Read what they report back about where the marks are going. Then choose a block with a stated objective and an end date, at a rate you can compare against the AED bands published on this page. Sessions run live over video on Gulf Standard Time, timed around the Bur Dubai school run. If the match is wrong after the trial, say so and nothing is owed. If no Higher Level specialist is free in your window, we will tell you that too.
