IB Tutor near me in Oud Metha

Families searching for an IB tutor near me in Oud Metha almost always budget by the hour and then spend by the two years, which is how a reasonable decision becomes an expensive one. The Diploma is twenty-four months long, six subjects wide, and most of the money that gets spent on it goes to components that were already closed. We publish the market rates with their sources and show where the leaks are.

IB & IGCSE in Oud Metha

Budget the Diploma, not the hour

Almost every Oud Metha family that asks us about cost asks for an hourly rate, gets one, decides it is manageable, and then spends several times what they imagined. The arithmetic is not hidden and it is not anybody's trick. It is simply that the Diploma runs for twenty-four months across six subjects, each of which can plausibly attract a weekly hour, and an hourly rate multiplied by that structure is a different number from the one a parent pictured.

So the right unit is the programme rather than the session. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 estimates put a single weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Hold that for one subject across two Diploma years and it becomes a substantial commitment. Hold it for three subjects and it is a multiple of that. Nothing about those figures is unreasonable per hour; the total is simply much larger than the monthly number implies, and most families do the first multiplication and not the second.

The second thing worth understanding before spending anything is that a large share of Diploma tutoring money is spent on components that have already closed. Every subject has an internally assessed piece submitted at a school deadline well before the papers - 20 per cent of a science grade, for instance, settled in the autumn of the second year. Families who start looking for a tutor in the spring of DP2 and ask for help with the internal assessment are asking about a mark that is banked. The money is real and the component is not available.

The third is that some of what gets paid for is free. Oud Metha sits inside the school belt with large schools within walking distance, which makes departmental revision sessions, after-school clinics and teacher availability unusually easy to reach from here. Before paying anybody it is worth establishing what the school already runs, and the honest version of this page says so rather than burying it. We would rather a family used a free session than bought an hour from us covering the same ground.

On delivery, since the search term invites the question: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we provide only in India. Every lesson for an Oud Metha family is one-to-one over live video, in a Gulf Standard Time slot, and we hold no office, centre or branch in the UAE. The cost consequence of that is specific and it appears in a table further down: in-home rates published in this market include the tutor's travel, and over two years the travel component becomes a number that would have bought a meaningful number of additional sessions.

  • Oud Metha's school belt makes free departmental support easy to reach
  • In-home rates in this market include travel; over two years that compounds
  • Every AED figure here names its publisher and the month it was read
  • All UAE lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four points in the Diploma where money gets spent, and what each one can actually buy. The cost-effectiveness varies enormously between them, which is the whole argument of this page.

DP1Ages 16-17 · DP1

Diploma year one

The cheapest year to buy help in and the one families spend least in, because nothing has gone wrong yet. Every internally assessed component is still open, foundational mathematical technique can be fixed slowly rather than patched, and the decisions that cap internal assessment marks have not been made. A small amount of well-aimed spending here displaces a larger amount later.

In a Dubai school DP1 also carries mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies alongside six Diploma subjects, Theory of Knowledge and the start of the Extended Essay. A DP1 student describing a time problem is usually describing arithmetic, and that is not solved by purchase.

DP2 autumnAges 17-18 · DP2

Diploma year two, first term

The last window in which internally assessed components are still open at most schools, and therefore the final chance to influence that share of the grade. Also the term in which Extended Essay deadlines land. Spending here is still efficient, provided it is aimed at a component that has not yet been submitted rather than at general revision.

Ask the IB coordinator for the school's internal deadline list. Those internal dates, not the IB's, are what determine whether a component is open, and having them in writing at the start of DP2 is what makes autumn spending efficient rather than hopeful.

DP2 springAges 17-18 · DP2

Diploma year two, final terms

The most expensive period and the one in which most money is spent. Internal assessments are closed, so the entire remaining grade sits in the papers, and what tutoring can do is convert existing knowledge into marks. That is real and it is narrower than families expect, and it is worth paying for only when aimed at diagnosed losses rather than at syllabus coverage.

UAE candidates sit the May session, with November as the alternative sitting. No IB session or results date appears on this page: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so take every date from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org rather than from a tutoring website.

CoreDP1 into DP2

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Together worth up to 3 points through a published matrix, with conditions attached that can fail an otherwise sufficient candidate. The useful help is unusually narrow and therefore unusually cheap: narrowing an Extended Essay research question until it is answerable in 4,000 words, and reading a Theory of Knowledge prescribed title closely before any planning.

This is the best value in the whole Diploma on a cost-per-point basis, because two or three well-timed sessions can touch something that contributes to the final total, and almost nobody buys it. Families spend on subjects and ignore the core, then discover it in the results.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Where money goes per subject, and whether it is well spent. The question in each case is how much grade the hour can plausibly move, not how difficult the subject is.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Expensive to fix late and cheap to fix early, because the underlying problem is almost always algebraic fluency rather than concepts. A DP1 block on manipulation and calculator technique costs a fraction of DP2 crisis revision and improves every paper. The mathematical exploration is a separate purchase with its own timing.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Same economics with a different emphasis: modelling, statistics and technology use. Families often assume this route needs less support and then find the technology demands and the exploration both need attention. The route choice itself should be checked against specific university requirements rather than reputation.

Physics

HL and SL

The highest-leverage early purchase in Group 4, because the investigation is 20 per cent and its ceiling is set before any data exists, and because the mathematics inside physics is the real DP1 difficulty. After the investigation closes, remaining value is paper technique and uncertainty handling.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The one subject where a ten-minute diagnostic can redirect the whole budget: if the mole and reacting-amount chain is not automatic, that is where four to eight sessions should go whatever topic the report names. Spending on organic chemistry while the chain is shaky is the commonest waste in this subject.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume is the challenge and terminology precision is where marks go, which makes it well suited to short frequent work rather than long blocks. Low cost per unit of improvement, but it needs consistency across a term, so a thin long engagement beats an intensive one.

Economics and Business Management

HL and SL

The internally assessed component is the efficient purchase here, because article or case selection and framing decide the mark and a few well-timed sessions address it. Paper technique - diagram accuracy, judgement at the end of evaluation questions - is cheap to fix and frequently ignored.

History and Geography

HL and SL

Source evaluation and structured argument are teachable in small numbers of sessions and transfer between papers. The internally assessed investigation has a specific cost trap: a question nobody can find sources for caps three criteria, and it is detectable in one conversation months early.

Language A

HL and SL

The individual oral is the under-bought component. Its ceiling is set by the choice of extracts and the global issue framing, which is a single conversation rather than a course of lessons - and that conversation is among the cheapest high-value hours available in the Diploma.

Language B

HL and SL

The oral again, and specifically the unscripted follow-up conversation, which is coaching rather than language teaching. Short frequent rehearsal outperforms long sessions, so the cost-effective shape is a thin engagement across a term rather than a block before the recording.

The Arts

Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, Film · HL and SL

Heavily internally assessed through portfolios and performance components with substantial documentation requirements. The efficient purchase is process and documentation support in the first year, and it is almost never bought - families buy artistic coaching, which is not what is marked.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Two or three sessions, well timed, reading a prescribed title closely before any planning and framing the exhibition properly. On a cost-per-point basis this is the best value in the Diploma, because the core contributes to the final total and the help needed is genuinely small.

The Extended Essay

Core

One session on the research question, in DP1, is worth more than five on the draft in DP2. A question too broad to answer in 4,000 words produces a survey, and surveys score in the lower bands. The supervisor reflections also count, which students discover late and at cost.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to spend on the Diploma, in descending order of cost-effectiveness. The first is the one families buy least.

Small, early, component-aimed purchases

Two or three sessions aimed at something still open and still cheap: an Extended Essay research question in DP1, a Theory of Knowledge prescribed title, an internal assessment design before data exists, a Language A oral extract choice. Small totals, fixed end points, and the highest grade effect per dirham available in the programme.

  • Two or three sessions with an explicit end point
  • Aimed at a component not yet submitted
  • Priced as a block rather than as a standing commitment
  • Checked against the component's own criteria afterwards

One standing subject hour, chosen on the evidence

A weekly hour in the single subject with the largest gap between what the student knows and what they score, which is rarely the subject they complain about. One hour, not three. We would rather diagnose for two sessions and recommend one subject than take a booking for three and let the budget decide the outcome.

  • One subject, chosen from marked scripts rather than from preference
  • Measured against the next school assessment
  • Reviewed after three sessions, honestly
  • Changed or stopped if the mark pattern does not move

A diagnosed DP2 run-in

The expensive option, appropriate when the papers are the only thing left. Starts with a timed paper marked hard against the real scheme, then teaches in order of marks lost, with the final fortnight on technique and nothing new. Shorter and more targeted than families expect, because coverage is not purchasable at that stage.

  • A diagnostic timed paper before any teaching is bought
  • Two or three highest-cost areas only
  • No new content introduced in the final fortnight
  • An explicit session count rather than an open arrangement

01

The two-year Diploma tutoring budget, laid out in dirhams

Here is the calculation most families do not do until they have already made the commitment. Start from the market figures, each attributed and read in October 2026, and then multiply by the actual structure of the Diploma rather than by a single month.

The hourly bands: Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the budget end; Unitors publishes IB from AED 200 an hour and IGCSE from AED 150; Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table places IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above; TutorChase publishes AED 270; BartyED sits at AED 650 for premium named tutors. In-home one-to-one visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 by independent home tutors. Monthly: Bestimate estimates a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work, with packages advertised around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Now the structure. A Diploma is two academic years. A weekly hour in one subject, at the mid band, held across both of them, is roughly eighteen to twenty months of that monthly figure. In two subjects it doubles. In three - which plenty of families end up at, one subject at a time, each added for a good reason - it triples. Nobody decides to spend the three-subject total; they decide three times to spend a one-subject monthly figure, which is not the same decision and produces a very different number.

The table below lays the alternatives out side by side so the comparison is visible before the commitment rather than after it. Note what is cheapest and most effective: the small, early, component-aimed purchases at the top. Note what is most expensive: a standing arrangement in several subjects, maintained because stopping feels risky. None of these are IB Gram prices - we publish no rate card on a landing page and would rather quote against a stated requirement.

02

Six places the money leaks

  • Ask the coordinator which components are still open before buying anything
  • Diagnose upstream: the named topic is often not the problem
  • Review the whole commitment each term, not just the newest addition
  • Ask whether the rate is per hour or per lesson, every time

These are the patterns we see most often in this district, and all six are avoidable at no cost. None of them involve dishonest providers; they are all ordinary decisions that happen to be inefficient, and naming them is more useful than a discount.

The first is buying a closed component. An internal assessment submitted in the autumn of DP2 cannot be improved in the spring, and hours spent discussing it are hours spent on a banked mark. Ask the coordinator for the internal deadline list and know what is open before buying. The second is paying for coverage in a short window. A DP2 spring run-in cannot cover six subjects, and a provider who offers to is selling hours; triage by marks recoverable per hour instead. The third is re-teaching a topic when the problem is upstream of it - the chemistry student whose mole chain is not automatic, the physics student whose algebra is shaky. A ten-minute diagnostic redirects the whole budget.

The fourth is adding subjects one at a time. Each addition is individually defensible and the total is a decision nobody made. Review the whole commitment every term rather than only the new increment. The fifth is paying a premium for work that belongs to the student: the final fortnight's timed-paper practice is not a purchasable service, and nothing in this market justifies a premium for supervising it. The sixth is paying for anything the school already provides free, which in Oud Metha specifically is more than families assume, because the school belt is within walking distance.

There is a seventh that is worth separating out because it is about structure rather than judgement: not asking whether a quoted rate is per hour or per lesson. A ninety-minute lesson billed at a lesson rate and a ninety-minute lesson billed at an hourly rate are different numbers, and the difference compounds weekly across two years. Ask the question of every provider, including us, and ask what happens if you stop after one session.

03

Cost per point: which parts of the grade are cheap to move

A more useful question than what does tutoring cost is what does a point cost, and the answer varies by an order of magnitude depending on which part of the grade you are aiming at. Thinking this way changes what a family buys without changing what they spend.

At the cheap end sit the core components. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together contribute up to 3 points through a published matrix, and the useful help in both is genuinely narrow: reading a prescribed title closely before planning, and narrowing a research question until it is answerable in 4,000 words. Two or three sessions each, once, in DP1. On a cost-per-point basis nothing else in the Diploma comes close, and almost nobody buys it because the core does not feel like a subject.

Next cheapest are the internally assessed components, provided they are addressed before design decisions are made. A science investigation is 20 per cent of a subject grade, 24 marks across four criteria, and its ceiling is set by whether the chosen variable can be measured precisely enough. Three to five sessions before any data exists can affect that whole share. The same three to five sessions after submission affect nothing. Timing, not quantity, is what makes this cheap or worthless.

At the expensive end sits content coverage in a short window, which is where most money goes. Re-teaching a topic in DP2 spring buys a small number of marks on one paper at specialist rates, and re-teaching several topics multiplies the cost without multiplying the effect, because the student runs out of capacity before the budget does. The honest framing is that late spending buys conversion of existing knowledge - command terms, mark allocation, showing working, question triage - and that is worth a modest, targeted amount rather than a large one.

Tutoring cost in context, next to the other numbers a Dubai family pays

Tutoring spending makes more sense placed next to the other education costs in a Dubai household than viewed on its own, and one of those costs has recently been held flat, which changes the comparison.

KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's private sector was 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools - four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate - creating 16,846 new places, after six opened in 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. KHDA publishes each school's approved fees on its own site, which means a family can check school costs independently rather than relying on a summary from anybody, including us.

Against that backdrop, the tutoring question becomes proportional rather than absolute. A standing weekly hour in three subjects across two years, at Bestimate's mid-market monthly estimate of AED 600 to 1,200 per subject, is a recurring commitment sitting alongside fees that have been frozen for a year. For many households the sensible conclusion is not to spend less in total but to spend the same amount earlier and more narrowly - the small early component-aimed purchases rather than the broad late ones.

The table below places the items side by side. Two of its rows deliberately carry no figure, because we do not publish numbers we cannot source: school fees vary by school and are published on KHDA's own site, and private-candidate examination fees are set by the board and the centre rather than by us. An unsourced number on a page like this would be worse than a blank, and across thousands of pages it would be a liability rather than a service.

Pricing structures, and the three traps inside them

Beyond the headline rate, how a provider prices has a larger effect on what a family actually pays than the rate itself. Three structures dominate this market and each has a trap worth knowing before signing anything.

Per-hour against per-lesson is the first and the most common. A ninety-minute lesson billed at an hourly rate costs one and a half hours; billed at a lesson rate it may cost one. Across a two-year engagement at weekly frequency the difference is significant, and it is invisible unless asked about. Ask every provider, including us, and get the answer in writing alongside the rate.

Packages are the second. The monthly listings in this market - around AED 799 for eight online sessions, AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions - reduce the per-hour cost and introduce a commitment. The trap is not the discount; it is that a package creates a reason to keep going when the honest answer is to stop. If three sessions have not moved the mark pattern, the right response is to change the tutor or the approach, and a half-used package makes that decision harder than it should be. Ask what happens to unused sessions and what happens if you stop after one.

Group classes are the third. They are genuinely cheaper per student and they work for content delivery where several students share the same gap. They do not work for internally assessed components, because those are individual pieces of work with individual research questions, and they do not work for diagnosed technique repair, because the diagnosis differs per student. A group class sold as internal assessment support is selling the wrong format for the task. And on the word free: nothing with a condition attached should be called free without the condition stated on the same screen - our trial lesson is one session, at no cost, with no card required, and that is the whole of it.

The free alternatives worth trying first from an Oud Metha address

  • Departmental after-school clinics and revision sessions cost nothing and know your child's class
  • The coordinator conversation establishes what is purchasable at all
  • Asking for the annotated script turns a paid hour from diagnosis into teaching
  • Final-fortnight timed practice is the student's own work, not a purchase

A cost page that does not mention the free options is not an honest cost page, and in this district the free options are unusually accessible. Oud Metha sits inside the school belt with large schools within walking distance, which means the things a school provides are easy to physically reach - and most of them are provided to anybody who asks.

Departmental support comes first. Most Dubai secondary departments run some form of after-school clinic, revision session or open-door arrangement, and the teacher running it knows your child's class, their marks and the school's own deadlines better than any external tutor will. It costs nothing. Establish exactly what runs and when before paying anybody, and if the free provision covers what is actually wrong, use it - we will say so when it looks adequate rather than selling around it.

Second, the coordinator conversation. Asking the IB coordinator for the internal deadline list, which components are still open, and which subject guide version applies is free and reorders what a family should spend on. It is routinely worth more than a first paid session, because it establishes what is purchasable at all. Third, the marked script. Asking a teacher for the annotated mock paper rather than the grade costs nothing and turns a first tutoring hour from diagnosis into teaching, which is a direct saving.

Fourth, and least used, the student's own timed practice. The final fortnight of any Diploma subject is technique and stamina, and that is the student's own work - no tutor can do it for them and nothing in this market justifies a premium for supervising it. Families who understand that stop paying two weeks earlier than they otherwise would, and the outcome is the same or better because the student is not sitting in a lesson when they should be writing a paper.

07

Where near me adds cost without adding value

On a page about money, the proximity question resolves into a straightforward comparison, and it is worth making explicitly rather than leaving implied.

Our position first, stated before anyone pays: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we provide only in India. Every lesson for an Oud Metha family is one-to-one over live video in a Gulf Standard Time slot, and we hold no office, centre or branch in the UAE. We put that on the page because two providers ranking for these searches route UAE parents to overseas phone numbers without disclosing where the tutor actually sits, and a family should know before paying rather than after.

The cost structure is visible in the published market figures. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 by independent home tutors, with travel explicitly included in those rates, against AED 150 to 450 for online specialists. The clearest comparison is the monthly packages: around AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions - the same eight hours for roughly double, repeated monthly. Over two Diploma years in one subject, the difference would have bought a substantial number of additional sessions, and what it actually buys is a journey.

The one honest counterargument is that Oud Metha has the shortest commute in Old Dubai, so the travel being paid for is genuinely brief. That is true, and it is the district where in-home pricing is least penalised. What it does not change is that the premium is still charged, that the pool of available tutors is still narrowed by distance, and that the session still depends on a journey succeeding. What Oud Metha's short commute really buys is the earliest realistic slot in Old Dubai - a 4pm or 4.30pm start - and that advantage belongs to the district rather than to either delivery model, so an online session claims it just as well.

What we will not charge for, claim or publish

  • No rate card on a landing page; we quote against a stated requirement
  • The free trial is one session, no cost, no card, with the tutor you would keep
  • No regulator or examination-board accreditation, and no UAE premises
  • No satisfaction percentage, star rating or unverified examination date anywhere

A page that publishes competitors' prices should be explicit about its own position, so here it is in full, and all of it is checkable.

We publish no rate card on a landing page, because a rate without a stated requirement is a number designed to be compared rather than used - we would rather quote against what a family actually needs after a free trial. The trial is one session, at no cost, with the tutor you would continue with, and no card is required; that is the whole condition and it is stated here rather than on a later screen. We hold no office, centre or branch anywhere in the UAE, so there is nothing to visit and no address to show.

We are not approved, accredited, certified, licensed, authorised or partnered by the International Baccalaureate, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge International or Pearson. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai - initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry - and we do not hold one. Anybody implying such approval should be asked for the permit or centre number.

We publish no satisfaction percentage, star rating, review count or tutor headcount, because none of those could carry a sample size, a date and a method, and a statistic without those three things is decoration. Two competitors in this market publish self-asserted star ratings in their structured data that differ from the figure on the visible page, which is a structured-data policy problem as well as a trust one. We print no IB examination or results date, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date in a Diploma plan is a date a family acts on. And we do not write, co-write, edit to completion or supply any part of an internally assessed component, an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay - we teach, question and give feedback on the student's own work, while one provider ranking in this market sells completed internal assessments outright.

Permits, the regulator map and equivalency a family can verify

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit: free, two years, Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • No official fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you
  • Your child's own school teacher privately is the arrangement to decline
  • Equivalency is a Ministry process and tutoring is not a requirement of it

Cost and legality intersect in one place on a near-me search, which is that the cheapest local option is often an individual working without a permit. That is worth knowing because the permit is free, so price is not the reason somebody would lack one.

Private tutoring in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees and states a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published officially, nobody should quote you an amount - a figure circulating online could not be verified against any official source.

One rule bears on the cheapest convenient option specifically. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct likewise bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. In a district where the schools are a short walk away, that arrangement is the one most likely to be offered informally and the one to decline.

On the wider picture: Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which inspects on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under the Department of Education and Knowledge, Sharjah under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah under its own Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah - with Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approving tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, five accredited GCSE or IGCSE passes at no less than grade E or 3 are required, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded, plus one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects. Verify your own case through the Ministry's own channel: we describe the process, neither perform nor guarantee it, and tutoring is not a requirement of it.

10

The mandatory subjects, the full week and the cost of ignoring both

  • Mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies run alongside the Diploma
  • Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, minimum advised 25 minutes
  • A third weekly hour removes capacity from somewhere else rather than adding it
  • Less, earlier and narrower usually beats more, later and broader

One cost that never appears in a quote is the opportunity cost of an hour in a week that has none spare, and in a Dubai Diploma timetable that is a real constraint rather than a rhetorical one.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever international curriculum the school is licensed for, under KHDA requirements implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and KHDA advises that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, since curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ, and requires teachers of those subjects to hold the appropriate KHDA approval. For the mandatory subjects, using different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited.

Place those hours beside six Diploma subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, and the week has very little slack. Adding a third weekly tutoring hour to that week does not add three hours of capacity; it removes three hours from somewhere else, usually from sleep or from the subject that was not being tutored. That is the single most common reason a family spends more and sees less, and it is an arithmetic problem rather than a teaching one.

The practical consequence for a budget is counter-intuitive: spending less, earlier and more narrowly often produces more grade than spending more, later and more broadly, because the early purchases do not compete for capacity in the same way. A DP1 block on algebraic fluency sits in a year with more room in it and improves papers for twenty months. Three DP2 spring hours sit in the fullest weeks of the programme and compete with revision the student needs to do alone. We would rather a family heard that before committing than discovered it in April.

Where we tutor

Oud Metha and the districts around it

What changes between these neighbourhoods on a cost page is the travel premium attached to an in-home arrangement and the ease of reaching free school support. The teaching rate does not vary by postcode.

Oud Metha

Inside the school belt with large schools within walking distance, which makes free departmental support unusually accessible and the earliest session slot in Old Dubai genuinely available. Both of those are cost advantages that belong to the district.

Al Mankhool

A short distance west with its own school cluster, often a walk. Similar access to free school support, and a 4pm start is realistic, which means a session can land before fatigue and before a shared study surface is contested.

Bur Dubai

Immediately adjacent and served by the same schools, so the same free options and the same market rates apply. Nothing about the tutoring economics differs between a Bur Dubai and an Oud Metha address.

Karama

A few minutes inland, dense flats, shared study surfaces and often one device between siblings. The same market rates, with physical constraints that make scheduling rather than price the binding issue.

Al Garhoud

Across the creek near the airport, with the nearest concentrated IB provision. An in-home arrangement from here to Oud Metha carries a real travel cost, which is the clearest case of the premium buying a drive.

Deira

The north bank, with an unpredictable afternoon crossing. The travel premium is highest and the reliability lowest, which is a poor combination to be paying for every week.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

A large British and Indian curriculum belt towards Sharjah. Longest commutes, thinnest IB provision, and the least favourable in-home economics in this group.

Al Jaffiliya and Satwa

Between Bur Dubai and Jumeirah with short runs to two clusters. Households with children on two curricula face two budgets rather than one, which is the multiplication families most often fail to do.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Oud Metha

Oud Metha, Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai

The densest school provision in Old Dubai and the practical reason free departmental support is reachable from here. Worth noting on a cost page: KHDA publishes each private school's approved fees on its own site, so a family can check school costs independently rather than relying on anybody's summary.

  • The Indian High School, Dubai
  • St Mary's Catholic High School
  • Dubai Gem Private School
  • Dubai English Speaking School
  • Ambassador School, Al Mankhool

Al Garhoud, Deira and Al Mamzar

The nearest IB provision to Oud Metha and where most local Diploma students study. The daily crossing is the reason an in-home arrangement with a tutor from this cluster carries the travel premium that the market rates already price in.

  • Deira International School
  • Al Ittihad Private School, Al Mamzar
  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud
  • The Indian Academy, Dubai

Schools are named only as context for the local education market. IB Gram has no affiliation with, partnership with, or endorsement from any school listed here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the coordinator what is still open

Request the internal deadline list for all six subjects. A component already submitted cannot be improved, and knowing which ones are open is the single cheapest piece of information in the whole budget. It costs one email and it reorders what you should spend on.

  2. 02

Check the free provision before paying

Oud Metha sits inside the school belt, so departmental clinics, revision sessions and teacher availability are easy to reach and cost nothing. Establish what runs and when. Where the free option covers what is actually wrong, we will say so rather than take the booking.

  3. 03

    Diagnose before you commit

Two or three sessions, or a free trial, spent on marked scripts across the candidate subjects. One subject is usually doing most of the damage and the named topic is often not the problem. Buying three standing hours before diagnosing is the most expensive way to start.

  4. 04

Ask the two pricing questions in writing

Is the quoted rate per hour or per lesson, and what happens if we stop after one session. Ask every provider, including us. Those two answers change the two-year total more than the headline rate does, and they separate providers quickly.

  5. 05

    Buy the cheap things first

The Extended Essay research question, the Theory of Knowledge prescribed title, the internal assessment design before data exists, the Language A oral extract choice. Small blocks, fixed end points, lowest cost per point in the programme - and the ones families buy last.

  6. 06

Review the whole commitment each term

Not just the newest addition. Three subjects at a weekly hour is a decision nobody consciously made; it is three separate reasonable decisions. Look at the total every term, judge it against the school's assessments, and stop the parts that are not moving.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure attributed, every claim checkable

Each AED range on this page names the provider that published it and the month it was read, so you can verify it and judge any quote - including ours - against something real. Three providers in this market publish no price at all and two quote in a currency Dubai families do not transact in.

We will tell you what is already closed

An internal assessment submitted in the autumn of DP2 cannot be improved in the spring, and we say so rather than booking hours against a banked mark. Knowing what is purchasable is worth more than a discount on something that is not.

We point at the free options

Departmental clinics, the coordinator conversation, the annotated script, and the student's own timed practice. In a district inside the school belt those are genuinely accessible, and where they cover what is wrong we say so instead of selling around them.

Cheap things first, by design

The core components and early internal assessment design have the lowest cost per point in the Diploma and are the last things families buy. We lead with them because it is the honest recommendation, even though it is the smaller sale.

No rate card, no package pressure

We quote against a stated requirement after a free trial rather than publishing a number designed for comparison, and we would rather you reviewed after three sessions than committed to a package that makes stopping awkward when stopping is right.

Clear about where the tutor sits, and what that saves

Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, stated before payment, and IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE. The published in-home rates include travel; over two years that premium would have bought a meaningful number of additional sessions.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Oud Metha: your questions answered

What does a full IB Diploma of tutoring actually cost in Dubai?+

Count twenty-four months, not one. Bestimate's Dubai estimates put a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Hold the mid band for one subject across both Diploma years and that is eighteen to twenty months of the monthly figure; three subjects triples it. Families rarely decide to spend the three-subject total - they decide three times to spend a one-subject figure, which is a different decision.

Which part of a Diploma grade is cheapest to improve?+

The core. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together contribute up to 3 points through a published matrix, and the useful help in both is narrow: reading a prescribed title closely before planning, and narrowing a research question until it is answerable in 4,000 words. Two or three sessions each, once, in DP1. On a cost-per-point basis nothing else comes close, and almost nobody buys it because the core does not feel like a subject the way chemistry does.

Where do Oud Metha families most often waste tutoring money?+

Six places, all avoidable at no cost. Buying a component that has already been submitted. Paying for coverage in a window too short for it. Re-teaching a topic when the problem is upstream of it - shaky algebra, an unautomatic mole chain. Adding subjects one at a time until the total is a decision nobody made. Paying a premium to supervise final-fortnight practice that belongs to the student. And paying for something the school already provides free, which in this district is more than most families assume.

Is it cheaper to start tutoring in DP1 or DP2?+

DP1, decisively, and it is the year families spend least in because nothing has gone wrong yet. Every internally assessed component is still open, so three to five sessions can affect up to 20 per cent of a subject grade. Foundational technique fixed in the first DP1 term improves papers for twenty months. By DP2 spring the internal marks are closed, the week is at its fullest, and what remains is conversion of existing knowledge - real, but narrower and more expensive per unit of grade.

Should I ask whether the rate is per hour or per lesson?+

Always, and get it in writing. A ninety-minute lesson billed at an hourly rate costs one and a half hours; billed at a lesson rate it may cost one. Across a weekly engagement over two Diploma years that difference is substantial and it is invisible unless asked about. Ask the second question too: what happens if we stop after one session. Those two answers change the two-year total more than the headline rate does, and they separate providers faster than any marketing copy.

Are monthly tutoring packages good value?+

They lower the effective hourly rate and they introduce a commitment, and the trap is the commitment rather than the discount. Market listings run around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. The problem is that a half-used package creates a reason to keep going when the honest answer is to change the tutor or stop. Ask what happens to unused sessions and whether you can review and exit after three.

Can a group class replace one-to-one for the Diploma?+

For content delivery where several students share the same gap, yes, and it is genuinely cheaper per student. For internally assessed components, no - those are individual pieces with individual research questions, and a group format cannot address them. For diagnosed technique repair, also no, because the diagnosis differs per student. A group class marketed as internal assessment support is the wrong format for the task, whatever the price looks like.

What free support should we use before paying for a tutor?+

Four things, and all of them are accessible from Oud Metha because the school belt is within walking distance. Departmental after-school clinics and revision sessions, run by teachers who know your child's class and marks. The coordinator conversation, which establishes which components are still open. Asking a teacher for the annotated mock script rather than the grade, which turns a first paid hour from diagnosis into teaching. And the student's own timed practice in the final fortnight, which is not purchasable at all.

Does paying more get a better IB tutor?+

Up to a point, and the point is lower than the top of the market. The specialist band at AED 200 to 450 and above - Bestimate's figure, with TutorChase at AED 270 - buys judgement: internal assessment design and reading a script to rank mark losses. Above that, BartyED's AED 650 buys a named individual rather than a different capability. Below it, the budget band at AED 33 to 65 from Tutopiya and EdFlik buys supervision, which is sometimes exactly right and never equivalent to Higher Level teaching.

How much does an in-home tutor add over two Diploma years?+

Roughly double, on the published monthly packages. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 by independent home tutors with travel included, against AED 150 to 450 for online specialists. The clearest comparison: around AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions - the same eight hours. Repeated monthly across two years, that difference would have bought a substantial number of additional sessions.

Do you come to homes in Oud Metha, and does it cost more?+

We do not. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Every lesson for an Oud Metha family is one-to-one over live video in a Gulf Standard Time slot, stated before you pay, and we hold no office or premises in the UAE. The cost point is in the market data above: in-home rates include the tutor's travel, so the premium above the online band pays for a journey rather than for teaching.

Why don't you publish your prices on this page?+

Because a rate without a stated requirement is a number designed for comparison rather than for use, and the right answer depends on the subject, the component and how many weeks are left. We would rather quote against what a family actually needs after a free trial. What we do publish is every competitor rate we could source, with the provider named and the month it was read, so you can judge any quote - ours included - against something real rather than against a claim.

Is the free trial actually free?+

Yes, and here is the whole condition stated on the same screen: one session, at no cost, with the tutor you would continue with rather than a different person, and no card is required. Nothing else attaches to it. We spell that out because the word free gets used loosely in this market, and anything with a condition attached should carry the condition where it is read rather than three clicks later. You also get a written note of what was found either way.

How does tutoring spend compare with Dubai school fees?+

KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. KHDA publishes each school's approved fees on its own site, so a family can check independently rather than relying on anyone's summary. Against frozen fees, a recurring three-subject tutoring commitment is worth examining as a proportion rather than in isolation - and spending earlier and narrower often beats spending more.

Will a third weekly tutoring hour actually help?+

Often less than expected, because it does not add capacity to the week - it removes time from somewhere else, usually sleep or the subject that is not being tutored. A Dubai Diploma week already carries six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, plus mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies with instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. This is the commonest reason a family spends more and sees less, and it is arithmetic rather than teaching.

Is the cheapest local tutor likely to hold a UAE permit?+

Ask, because price is not a reason to lack one - the permit is free. Private tutoring in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties, and no official fine schedule is published.

Spend earlier, narrower, and on the cheap things first

If this page has one argument, it is that the Diploma rewards small early purchases far more than large late ones, and that most families do the reverse. Ask the coordinator which components are still open. Check what the school already provides free, which from an Oud Metha address is a short walk. Diagnose before committing, and buy the core work and the internal assessment design before any standing subject hour. Then ask us the two pricing questions and take the free trial - one session, no cost, no card, with the tutor you would keep. All lessons for Oud Metha families are one-to-one over live video, and we do not send tutors to UAE addresses.
