IGCSE Science Tutor in Nad Al Sheba

The first thing an IGCSE science tutor in Nad Al Sheba needs to establish is which science your child is actually taking, because single award, double award and three separate sciences are three different qualifications with different papers and different doors at the end. This page compares them properly, alongside Cambridge against Pearson and this district against the ones next door. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Nad Al Sheba

Three science routes, and the one your child is on

Parents in Nad Al Sheba comparing science tutoring options usually begin with the wrong comparison. They compare tutors, or they compare their district against Meydan and Sobha Hartland, when the comparison that decides the outcome is between the three science routes a school offers. Single award science produces one IGCSE grade. Double award, or Co-ordinated Sciences, produces two. Three separate sciences produce three. The content overlaps heavily; the papers, the volume and the post-16 doors do not.

The choice was made in Year 9, often quickly, sometimes by default, and it is frequently not revisited. A student taking three separate sciences is carrying roughly a third more examined content than a double award student and sitting six papers rather than four. If that student is struggling, the first question is whether they are struggling with science or with the load, and those have different answers. Dropping to double award, where the school permits it and before the entry deadline, is sometimes the right answer and is almost never discussed.

The district context: Repton School Dubai, Kings' School Nad Al Sheba and GEMS Modern Academy sit inside Nad Al Sheba, with Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai in Sobha Hartland and Safa Community School a short drive away. Dubai held 387,441 private-school students across 227 schools in 2024-25 across seventeen licensed curricula, with UK-curriculum schools accounting for 37% of enrolment — the largest single share. UK curriculum, though, does not mean one board or one science route, and schools within a few kilometres of each other differ on both.

That is why the geographic comparison turns out to be the least useful one. What differs between Nad Al Sheba, Meydan, Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City is the school run and therefore the time a session can start. What differs between the schools in them is the board, the science route and the practical arrangement, and none of that follows a map. A family should ask their school for the syllabus codes before hiring anybody, and the codes are the one piece of information almost nobody arrives with.

IB Gram delivers tuition to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video, and does not send tutors to addresses in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For a student taking three sciences that matters practically: three subjects can mean three tutors or two, and a travelling arrangement that works for one subject becomes three car journeys a week once the exam year starts.

Two things are worth collecting before any first conversation about science tutoring. The syllabus codes, which the exams officer or head of science can give you in one email, and the most recent marked piece of written science work from each subject. The codes tell a tutor which papers your child will actually sit. The scripts tell them whether the lost marks are command terms in biology, missing state symbols in chemistry, or algebra abandoned halfway through a physics calculation. Those are three different problems with three different prices, and treating them as one problem called science is how a term gets spent without a grade moving.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages decide a science outcome in a British-curriculum school, and the one that matters most happens before Year 10 starts. These are the stages a Nad Al Sheba family passes through, described by the science demand each creates.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 science

Three years of combined science teaching, ending in the options decision that sets the IGCSE route. The most useful diagnostic at this stage is whether the student can handle proportional reasoning and basic rearrangement, because those decide how physics and chemistry feel from Year 10 onwards. A student strong on recall and weak on calculation will find separate sciences harder than their reports suggest.

Across the Nad Al Sheba block this decision happens inside schools with different boards and different science routes, so two neighbours in Year 9 can be choosing between genuinely different qualification structures. Ask the school which routes it offers, how many sets it runs, and whether a student can move between routes after Year 10 begins.

DOUBLEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Double award or Co-ordinated Sciences

Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 or Pearson Science Double Award 4SD0. Covers biology, chemistry and physics in one course and awards two IGCSE grades. The content is genuinely reduced rather than merely repackaged, which makes it the right route for a student who needs science but does not need it at depth, and it keeps most post-16 options open outside the most competitive science routes.

In this corridor double award is often treated as the lesser choice, which is a misreading. For a student taking nine or ten subjects, two grades from one course rather than three from three courses frees genuine timetable and revision capacity, and plenty of competitive university routes do not require separate sciences at all.

SEPARATEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Three separate sciences

Cambridge Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. Three qualifications, three grades, six or more papers, and roughly a third more examined content than double award. The right route for students heading towards A Level sciences, IB Higher Level sciences, medicine or engineering, and a heavy load for anybody else.

A Nad Al Sheba student on three separate sciences is carrying three subjects that each behave differently under pressure: biology is content-dense, chemistry punishes imprecision, physics punishes weak maths. When one of the three is failing, identifying which of those three failure modes is in play matters more than buying generic science hours.

POST16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

What comes after Year 11

A Level sciences or IB Diploma sciences, both of which assume the separate-science content in their first term. Several schools across this block offer both, which makes the Year 11 exit a genuine fork rather than a formality. The IGCSE science route constrains that fork more than families expect, and the constraint is usually noticed after the entry deadline.

Read the specific school's published entry requirement for its own sixth form or Diploma, because they differ and they change. For universities inside the UAE there is a separate Ministry of Education equivalency step which counts five accredited IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Three sciences, two boards and three routes produce a long list of possible combinations. Below are the courses and components Nad Al Sheba students bring, with the syllabus code and the characteristic place marks go in each.

Cambridge Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Content-dense and command-term sensitive. Describe and explain earn different marks here more sharply than in the other two sciences, and six-mark extended answers need a rehearsed structure. Transport, homeostasis and inheritance questions reward sequencing an answer in order rather than listing facts about the topic.

Cambridge Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

The mole and organic chemistry decide most grades. Students who balance equations confidently still drop marks on state symbols, on ionic equations, and on explaining a trend rather than stating it. Qualitative analysis questions are mechanical and reliably available once the test results are learned properly.

Cambridge Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Multiple choice, theory and a practical route. Unit conversion, describing a graph rather than using its gradient, and experimental-design questions that never name a control are the three recurring losses. Formula recall matters less than recognising which rearrangement the given data invites.

Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654

Core and Extended, double award

All three sciences in one course awarding two grades, with genuinely reduced content rather than the same syllabus compressed. The papers move between disciplines, so the examined skill includes switching register quickly — a biology explanation and a physics calculation can sit on facing pages.

Cambridge Combined Science 0653

Core and Extended, single award

One grade covering all three sciences at a lighter depth, suited to students for whom science is a requirement rather than a direction. Tutoring here is usually about securing a grade floor rather than reaching a ceiling, which changes what a sensible number of sessions looks like.

Pearson Biology 4BI1

Single tier

Two written papers with practical skills assessed inside them rather than in a separate practical paper. Extended-response questions carry significant marks and reward a planned structure. The absence of a standalone practical paper does not remove experimental questions; it moves them into the theory papers.

Pearson Chemistry 4CH1

Single tier

Two written papers, practical skills assessed within them. Calculation questions on moles, concentration and yield are reliable marks and are often rushed. As with Cambridge, state symbols and complete ionic equations are the quiet losses that cost marks on every paper.

Pearson Physics 4PH1

Single tier

Two written papers with experimental method assessed inside them. The mathematical demand is the highest of the three Pearson sciences, so a student weak on rearrangement will show it here first. Graph questions reward taking a gradient properly, with a large triangle and labelled values.

Pearson Science Double Award 4SD0

Single tier, double award

Three sciences in one course awarding two grades, with papers covering each discipline. Suits students carrying a wide subject list who need science grades without three separate revision programmes, and it keeps most non-specialist post-16 routes available.

Practical and alternative-to-practical components

Cambridge separate sciences

Cambridge separate sciences include either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, depending on what the centre offers. The alternative paper is highly predictable in structure — method, variables, tables, graphs, improvements — which makes it one of the best returns on tutoring time available.

Experimental method and variables

Both boards, all routes

Independent, dependent and control variables, fair tests, repeat readings and improvement suggestions. Assessed somewhere on every science route in some form, taught once in most schools, and the single most transferable set of marks across all three sciences.

Mathematical skills for science

Both boards, all routes

Rearrangement, proportion, percentages, standard form, significant figures and gradient work. Not a science topic and the cause of a large share of lost science marks, particularly in physics and in chemistry calculations. Worth testing separately before buying subject hours.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Science support takes three shapes, and the right one depends on the route rather than on the student's grade. All three are live one-to-one video sessions with a named tutor working to the correct syllabus code.

Single-subject weekly session

One tutor, one science, one fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time. The right purchase when one of three separate sciences is clearly weaker than the other two, which is the most common pattern. Working the weakest subject properly beats spreading the same hours across all three, because a thin pass over everything moves nothing.

  • Syllabus code and tier confirmed before the first session
  • Tracks the school's current unit and next assessment
  • A free trial lesson before anything is booked
  • Slots from 15:30 GST for the in-district schools

Experimental method and practical-paper block

Three or four sessions on variables, fair tests, tables, graphs, and the improvement questions that close most practical and alternative-to-practical papers. The structure of these papers is highly predictable, the content is shared across all three sciences, and most schools teach it once in Year 10 and never return to it.

  • Works for biology, chemistry and physics at once
  • Graphs plotted live with gradients taken properly
  • Improvement and evaluation answers practised to a template
  • The block ends after three or four sessions

Final-run paper blocks

In the last six to eight weeks, two or three shorter sessions a week spent on timed sections marked against official schemes rather than on content coverage. For separate-science students the schedule rotates across subjects deliberately rather than finishing one before starting the next.

  • Timed sections rather than whole untimed papers
  • Marked line by line against the official scheme
  • Command-term drill on the weakest question types
  • A written list of topics to stop revising

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Nad Al Sheba

01

Single award, double award or three separate sciences

This is the comparison that decides a science outcome, and it is almost never on the page when families research tutoring. The three routes are different qualifications. Single award produces one IGCSE grade covering all three sciences at a lighter depth. Double award — Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 or Pearson Science Double Award 4SD0 — produces two grades with genuinely reduced content. Three separate sciences produce three grades, six or more papers, and roughly a third more examined material.

What follows is a workload difference, not a prestige one. A Nad Al Sheba student taking nine or ten subjects including three separate sciences is carrying a revision programme that is physically larger than a classmate's on double award, and in the final term that difference is measured in hours they do not have. Where a student is struggling with one science, the honest first question is whether the route is right rather than whether the teaching is wrong.

The route also sets the post-16 doors, and this is where a decision made casually in Year 9 has consequences. A Level sciences and IB Higher Level sciences assume separate-science content in their first term. Double award keeps most other routes open, including plenty of competitive degrees that require no science at all. Single award narrows the science-specific options considerably. None of those is a wrong choice; choosing one by default is.

Where a change is possible it has a deadline, held by the school's exams officer rather than by the board, and it sits in the autumn of Year 11 at the latest. The practical move for a family with doubts is to ask two questions in writing: can my child move between routes, and by when. Both have short answers and both cost the school nothing to give.

Nad Al Sheba against the districts next door

Families in this part of Dubai compare four communities as a block: Nad Al Sheba, Meydan, Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City. For tutoring the comparison reduces to one variable, and it is not quality of provision. It is what time a session can start on a weekday, which matters disproportionately for a student taking three sciences because three subjects need three slots.

Nad Al Sheba and Sobha Hartland have schools inside their own boundaries, so a child can be home and settled by 15:30. That makes three weekday science sessions genuinely schedulable without pushing any of them past 19:00. Meydan sits at 16:00 to 16:30 depending on which school the child travels to. Mohammed Bin Rashid City loses twenty minutes inside District One's road network before reaching Al Khail. Al Quoz families consistently start latest and lean hardest on weekends.

What does not follow a map at all is the thing that actually matters: the board, the science route and the practical arrangement. Schools a few kilometres apart in this block differ on all three, and some differ by subject within one school. A family that works out their session window and never establishes their syllabus codes has solved the easy problem and left the hard one.

The reason the answer comes out the same across all four communities is that online delivery eliminates the only variable geography controls. Nothing has to arrive, so a District One family and a Sobha Hartland family can both hold a 16:00 slot. What remains is the match: a tutor who teaches the specific code and route rather than science in general, which is a selection question rather than a location one.

03

The practical component, board by board

Science practical assessment is the part of IGCSE that varies most between boards and routes, and the part parents most often get wrong when they compare two children at two schools. It is worth establishing exactly what your child sits, because one of the available components is among the easiest sources of marks in the whole qualification and the other does not exist.

Cambridge separate sciences include either a practical test, sat in a laboratory under exam conditions, or an alternative-to-practical written paper, depending on what the centre offers. The alternative paper is the interesting one. It asks about method, variables, tables, graphs and improvements in a structure that barely changes from series to series, which makes it highly predictable and therefore highly coachable. Students neglect it because it looks like a paper about experiments they did not do.

Pearson International GCSE sciences take a different approach: there is no standalone practical paper, and experimental skills are assessed inside the written papers instead. That does not reduce the demand, it relocates it. A 4PH1 or 4CH1 student still meets questions about method and variables, and still loses marks for not naming a control, but the questions arrive mixed among theory rather than gathered in one place.

The practical implication for a Nad Al Sheba family is a single question to the school: which component does my child sit, and is it a laboratory test or a written paper? Then, if it is the alternative-to-practical route, buy three or four sessions on it specifically. Across three separate sciences the same template applies to all three, which makes it the best-value block available on this page.

Cambridge against Pearson for the three sciences

Both boards award International GCSEs in biology, chemistry and physics, both are accepted wherever UK-curriculum qualifications are accepted, and both run June and November series available to UAE candidates. Underneath that they differ in ways that change a term of preparation, and a tutor who does not know which one a student sits will use the wrong practice material.

Cambridge uses codes 0610, 0620 and 0625 for the separate sciences and tiers them into Core and Extended, with the tier setting the grade ceiling. It also zones its timetables: every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

Pearson uses 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1, single-tier rather than tiered, and assesses experimental skills inside the written papers rather than in a separate practical component. Its results pattern is a useful checkable anchor: June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so the live official timetable is the only reliable source for dates.

One correction worth making plainly because it has reached UAE parents in error before. The February and March Cambridge series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit June and November on both boards, and November is the standard resit route. Any revision plan built around a February exam window or a late-November entry deadline is using another country's calendar.

What three sciences costs in tutoring, honestly

A single-subject tutoring budget and a three-science one are different conversations, and the market's hourly bands disguise that. Three separate sciences can mean three tutors, three slots and three times the monthly figure, which is why the first useful question is not the rate but whether all three subjects actually need support.

In most cases they do not. The common pattern is one science clearly weaker than the other two, usually physics where the problem is mathematical or chemistry where the problem is precision. Working the weakest subject properly for a term moves a grade; spreading the same hours thinly across three moves nothing and costs the same. A diagnostic across all three in one session is the cheapest way to establish which case you are in.

The market bands, read in October 2026 and belonging to whoever published them: budget online or undergraduate tutoring AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; a qualified subject tutor online AED 150 to 300, Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150; an IGCSE specialist AED 200 to 450 or more, TutorChase publishing AED 270; in-home one-to-one AED 180 to 500 including travel, Bestimate at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at 200 to 500; and a premium end reaching AED 650 at BartyED.

Monthly, Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, which for a three-science student is often the efficient shape: two subjects covered weekly rather than one subject twice. Ask about session length, VAT and what happens if you stop after one lesson.

Three sciences, three different failure modes

A student who says they are bad at science is almost always bad at one of them in a specific way, and the three sciences fail differently enough that the distinction is worth making before any hours are bought. Lumping them together is how a term of generic science tutoring produces no movement in any of the three.

Biology fails on command terms and on structure. The content is dense but mostly learnable, and the marks go missing when a student explains where the paper said describe, or writes a six-mark answer as a list of facts about the topic rather than a sequenced account of the process. The fix is answer structure and command-term drilling, which is quick and highly transferable.

Chemistry fails on precision. State symbols, ionic equations, trends described rather than explained, and calculation units left unconverted. The chemistry is usually understood; the expression is incomplete. Drilling this means marking the student's own written answers strictly against the official scheme while they watch, which lands harder than any explanation and holds afterwards.

Physics fails on mathematics. Rearrangement, unit conversion, proportional reasoning and taking a gradient properly from a graph. A student who understands the physics and cannot execute the algebra loses the back half of every calculation question. The test is cheap: give them a physics question with the setup already done and ask only for the algebra. If that is where it breaks, the purchase is maths inside physics rather than more physics.

Sequencing revision across three sciences

  • Set a fortnightly rotation in advance rather than reacting to the next test
  • Keep twenty minutes of recall on the subject not currently in focus
  • Buy the shared work — method, graphs, command terms — once for all three
  • Write the abandoned-topic list for each subject and keep it visible
  • Confirm the tier before any practice paper is set

A separate-science student in Year 11 has three subjects competing for the same evenings, and the usual approach is to revise whichever one has an assessment next. That produces a rolling emergency rather than a plan, and in the final term it means the third science gets whatever is left over, which is nothing.

The approach that works is a rotation set in advance and written down. Decide at the start of each fortnight which of the three gets the larger share and which gets maintenance, and rotate deliberately so no subject goes three weeks without being touched. Maintenance is not nothing: twenty minutes of recall on the subject not currently in focus prevents the three-week gap that makes a topic feel unlearnt.

The second move is to run the shared work once rather than three times. Experimental method, variables, graph skills and command terms apply to all three sciences. A block on those is one purchase that improves three subjects, which no amount of content revision in a single subject can do. In the final term it is also the only remaining lever available for a student who cannot cover everything.

The third move is to write down what is being abandoned, in each of the three subjects, and show it to the student. Students resist this more than parents do, because a written list of what they will not know feels like failure. It is what makes the remaining revision concentrated enough to move a boundary. A Year 11 student with three sciences cannot revise everything, and choosing deliberately beats choosing at random.

08

Three sciences on a shared screen

For science tutoring the honest comparison between formats has to acknowledge what video cannot do: it cannot run a practical. The school's laboratory programme, the equipment and the supervised work are the school's job, and no outside tutor in any format replaces them. Anyone claiming otherwise is selling something that is not available.

What the examined components actually require is different. The Cambridge alternative-to-practical paper asks about method, variables, tables and graphs in writing. Pearson assesses experimental skills inside written papers. Both are desk skills, and a shared screen handles them better than a notebook: a graph can be plotted live, a gradient taken with a large triangle while both people watch, and a results table built together so the student sees why the column headings carry units.

The practical scheduling point is sharper for three sciences than for one. Three in-home visits a week in exam term means three return journeys through pick-up traffic and three travel premiums of roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour each. For a Mohammed Bin Rashid City family that is not a close call. For a Nad Al Sheba family with a short school run it is a genuine choice, and presence has real value for a younger student.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. The table below therefore sets out the reasoning behind an existing decision rather than a sales case. Board materials come from the school's licensed access or from cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com; we do not host, reproduce or distribute papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides.

How the science route meets MoE equivalency

Equivalency converts a school-leaving qualification into something UAE authorities recognise, and it governs applications to universities inside the country. It is also the place where a science-route decision taken in Year 9 can have an administrative consequence nobody mentioned at the time, which is why it belongs on this page.

The published British-track rule is specific: a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. Alongside that, one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. One ranking competitor publishes six as the IGCSE subject count; the published figure is five.

What this page will not do is tell you how a double award counts towards that five. It is a reasonable question — two grades from one course is exactly the sort of case an administrative rule has to handle — and no source this project could verify states the answer. Rather than guess, ask the Ministry of Education or your emirate's attestation authority directly, and ask your school's exams officer what they have seen in practice. An invented answer on a page like this one would be a liability for the family that acted on it.

For the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee any part of equivalency or attestation, and tutoring is not a requirement for it. Verify everything on moe.gov.ae before acting.

Two questions to ask before paying anybody

  • Ask the school for the syllabus codes, the tier and the practical component
  • Ask the tutor where marks go on that exact paper, and listen for specifics
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free of charge for two years
  • Treat any claimed regulator approval as something to see a number for
  • Use the free trial lesson before anything is paid

Everything on this page reduces to a short set of checks, and across the four communities the checks are identical because the differences between them are not the ones that matter. Running them takes a few minutes and separates providers more reliably than any website copy, this page included.

The first question is for the school: what are my child's syllabus codes, which tier are they entered at, and which practical component do they sit? Three facts, one email, and they determine what correct practice looks like. A family that knows them can test any tutor in a single conversation; a family that does not is relying on the tutor to work it out, usually during paid sessions.

The second question is for the tutor: where do marks go on that specific paper? A specialist answers in command terms, state symbols, gradients and controls. A generalist answers in topic names. The difference is audible within a few minutes and it is the single most reliable signal available before money moves. Then use the free trial lesson, which exists so that judgement is yours rather than ours.

Two things worth knowing about credentials in this market. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18 — so anybody describing it as costly or optional is misinformed. And IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, and claims none.

Where we tutor

The four communities, compared for a science student

What differs between Nad Al Sheba and the districts beside it is the school run and therefore the session window, not the science. For a student taking three sciences that window matters more, because three subjects need more slots.

Nad Al Sheba

Repton School Dubai, Kings' School Nad Al Sheba and GEMS Modern Academy inside the district. Short school runs make a 15:30 start realistic, which is what allows two or three science sessions a week without pushing into the evening.

Sobha Hartland

Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai sit inside the community. The easiest scheduling of the four, which matters most for separate-science students who need several slots across a week.

Meydan

Newer stock around the racecourse with many families in their first or second UAE year. Mid-course arrivals are common here, and the first request is usually to work out which science route the new school has placed the child on.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

District One villa plots with long internal roads and limited exits onto Al Khail. Pick-up traffic absorbs twenty minutes inside the community, which makes three in-home science sessions a week impractical and three video sessions ordinary.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Mixed residential and industrial with longer journeys to the Nad Al Sheba and Barsha schools. Weekday starts land after 17:00, so separate-science students here tend to put one or two subjects on the weekend.

Business Bay

Apartments, shorter commutes, children mostly at Downtown and Al Jaddaf schools. Evening slots after 19:00 are normal and suit a 45-minute experimental-method session better than a long content block.

Downtown Dubai

No school on site, so every family drives out and back. The window between home and dinner is narrow, which is the practical argument for prioritising the alternative-to-practical paper over broad content revision.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Swiss International Scientific School Dubai anchors this end of the corridor. Science requests from here often involve the exact wording of extended answers as much as the content, because precision in a second language is harder to judge from a report.

DIFC

Few families, almost all apartments with long parental working days. Weekend sessions dominate, and live video is the only format that makes three sciences schedulable at all on that pattern.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Nad Al Sheba

Nad Al Sheba and Sobha Hartland

The schools with British secondary provision inside or beside the district. Between them they run both major boards and all three science routes, which is why the syllabus code matters more here than the postcode does.

  • Repton School Dubai
  • Kings' School Nad Al Sheba
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Hartland International School
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai

Meydan, MBR City and the wider corridor

Schools a Nad Al Sheba family will have toured or shortlisted, spread from Al Jaddaf through Al Quoz towards Dubai Hills and Silicon Oasis. Most remaining science enquiries on this page come from this set.

  • Safa Community School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Deira International School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School

Schools are named as context for the neighbourhood's education options; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the codes, the tier and the practical route

The useful opening message names the board and syllabus codes, the tier if the board tiers, the school, the year group and which practical component the child sits. Add the most recent marked script if there is one. Those facts decide which of three sciences actually needs support and what correct practice looks like.

  2. 02

A free diagnostic across the three

One live session that samples all three sciences rather than teaching one, usually with a short written answer from each marked strictly against the official scheme. The purpose is to find out whether one subject is clearly behind, which is the usual case, or whether the problem is shared method and timing. No payment is involved.

  3. 03

Buy the weakest subject, not all three

Where one science is behind, a term of weekly work on that subject moves a grade. Spreading the same hours across three moves nothing and costs the same. Where the diagnostic points at shared skills instead, the purchase is one experimental-method block that improves all three at once.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions on the correct code and tier

Practice is always on the student's own syllabus code and tier, with notes naming the topic, what was set and which question type comes next. Extended-tier practice given to a Core candidate demoralises them; Core practice leaves an Extended candidate unready for the back half of the paper.

  5. 05

Set the rotation for the exam year

A fortnightly rotation written in advance, with one subject in focus and the others on twenty-minute recall, beats revising whichever subject has the next test. A written abandoned-topic list for each of the three is part of the plan, because a Year 11 student with three sciences cannot cover everything.

  6. 06

Paper blocks for the final weeks

Content coverage stops and sessions become timed sections marked against official schemes, rotating across subjects deliberately rather than finishing one before starting the next. Papers come from the school's licensed access or the board's own platform, and the time goes on the marking.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The route checked before the teaching

Single award, double award and three separate sciences are different qualifications with different volumes and different post-16 doors. Where a student is drowning, the first question is whether the route is right, which is a conversation most providers skip entirely.

Three sciences, three diagnoses

Biology fails on command terms, chemistry on precision of expression, physics on mathematical execution. Generic science tutoring treats them as one subject and moves none of them. The diagnostic samples all three before any hours are committed.

The practical paper treated as the opportunity it is

Where the student sits Cambridge's alternative-to-practical paper, its structure barely changes between series and the same template serves all three sciences. Three or four sessions on it improves three subjects, which no content block can do.

Codes and tiers confirmed, not assumed

Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 need different practice, and Cambridge tiers set the grade ceiling. We ask for the codes and tier before matching a tutor, because wrong-tier practice is the most common wasted hour in this subject.

AED figures with their sources attached

Every band here is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, dated October 2026, and the three-subject arithmetic is spelled out rather than hidden behind an hourly rate. Three of six researched competitors publish no price at all.

An honest gap left where no source exists

How a double award counts towards the five IGCSE subjects MoE equivalency requires is a real question with no verifiable published answer, so this page says so and points at the authority rather than guessing. An invented answer would be the family's liability, not ours.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Nad Al Sheba: your questions answered

Is the IGCSE science tutoring based in Nad Al Sheba or delivered online?+

Online, one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses; home visits are a service we run only in India. For a student taking three separate sciences the format decides whether three sessions a week are schedulable at all: three video slots are three slots, while three in-home visits mean three return journeys through pick-up traffic and three travel premiums of roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour above the online band.

What is the difference between double award and three separate sciences?+

Double award — Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 or Pearson Science Double Award 4SD0 — covers all three sciences in one course and awards two IGCSE grades, with genuinely reduced content rather than the same syllabus compressed. Three separate sciences award three grades, require six or more papers and carry roughly a third more examined material. Separate sciences are needed for A Level and IB Higher Level sciences; double award keeps most other routes open, including many competitive degrees that require no science.

Can my child change science route if they are struggling?+

Sometimes, and the deadline is the school's internal entry deadline rather than the board's, which sits in the autumn of Year 11 at the latest. Ask the exams officer two questions in writing: can my child move between routes, and by when. Both have short answers and cost the school nothing to give. Where a student on three separate sciences is drowning, the route is sometimes the problem rather than the teaching, and that conversation is worth having before buying hours.

Which practical paper does my child actually sit?+

It depends on the board and the centre. Cambridge separate sciences include either a laboratory practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, and which one is offered is decided at centre level, so ask the exams officer. Pearson International GCSE sciences have no standalone practical paper and assess experimental skills inside the written papers instead. If your child sits the Cambridge written alternative, that is among the most coachable papers in the qualification and worth three or four dedicated sessions.

Why is my child good at biology and poor at physics?+

Because the three sciences fail differently. Biology is content-dense but mostly learnable, and its marks go missing on command terms and answer structure. Physics is mathematical, and a student who understands the concepts but cannot rearrange fluently or convert units loses the back half of every calculation. Test it directly: give them a physics question with the setup already done and ask only for the algebra. If that is where it breaks, the purchase is maths inside physics rather than more physics content.

Do we need three tutors for three sciences?+

Usually not. The common pattern is one science clearly behind the other two, and a term of weekly work on that subject moves a grade while the same hours spread across three move nothing. Where the diagnostic points at shared skills instead — experimental method, graph work, command terms, timing — one block of three or four sessions improves all three at once. Three separate weekly tutors is the right answer occasionally and is usually a sign of a route problem.

Which exam board does my child's school use for science?+

Ask for the syllabus codes rather than the board name, because some schools split boards by subject. You are looking for Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625, or 0654 for Co-ordinated Sciences, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 or 4SD0. Also ask which tier, because Cambridge tiers into Core and Extended and the tier sets the grade ceiling. Those two facts determine what correct practice looks like, and wrong-tier practice is the most common wasted hour in IGCSE science.

How much should we expect to pay for science tutoring in Dubai?+

Hourly bands read in October 2026: AED 45 to 150 for budget online tutoring, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150; AED 200 to 450 or more for a specialist, TutorChase publishing AED 270; AED 180 to 500 for in-home including travel; and up to AED 650 at BartyED. For three sciences the monthly arithmetic matters more than the rate, so decide first whether all three need support.

How should a Year 11 student revise three sciences at once?+

Set a fortnightly rotation in advance rather than revising whichever subject has the next test, which produces a rolling emergency. One subject takes the larger share while the others get twenty minutes of recall, then rotate, so no subject goes three weeks untouched. Run the shared work — method, variables, graphs, command terms — once rather than three times. Then write an abandoned-topic list for each subject, because three sciences cannot all be covered and choosing deliberately beats choosing at random.

When are the IGCSE science exams for UAE candidates?+

Both Cambridge and Pearson run series available to UAE candidates in June and November, with November the standard resit route. The February and March Cambridge series is offered to India only, so any plan built around a February exam window is using another country's calendar. For exact dates use your school's timetable: Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version and states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong one.

Does a double award count as two subjects for UAE equivalency?+

That is a fair question and this page will not guess at it. The published British-track rule requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five, and no source we could verify states how a double award is counted within that. Ask the Ministry of Education or your emirate's attestation authority directly, and ask your school's exams officer what they have seen in practice. An invented answer here would be your liability.

Can a tutor help with the practical coursework or lab write-ups?+

A tutor can teach the thinking: variables, fair tests, how to build a results table with units in the headings, how to take a gradient properly, and what an improvement question is asking for. A tutor cannot run a practical — the school's laboratory programme, equipment and supervision are the school's job and no format replaces them — and will not produce data, results or written work for submission. Any provider offering to supply results is offering something that puts the student at risk.

Is a science grade enough to get into A Level sciences here?+

Read your own school's published entry requirement for its sixth form or Diploma, because they differ between schools and are revised. What is consistent is that A Level sciences and IB Higher Level sciences assume separate-science content in their first term, so a double award student entering either is starting with a gap to close. That is worth knowing in Year 10, while the route can still change, rather than in August of Year 11 when it cannot.

Do tutors in Dubai need any kind of licence?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time.

What is the fastest improvement available in IGCSE science?+

Experimental method, if the student has not been taught it properly. Variables, fair tests, repeat readings, tables with units in the headings, graphs with proper gradients and improvement questions appear somewhere on every science route on both boards, and most schools teach the topic once in Year 10 and never return. Three or four sessions on it improves all three sciences at once, which no amount of content revision in one subject can do.

Does it matter that we live in Mohammed Bin Rashid City rather than Nad Al Sheba?+

Only for timing, and only if a tutor has to drive. District One's internal roads and single exit onto Al Khail absorb twenty minutes at pick-up, which makes three in-home science sessions a week impractical and three video sessions ordinary. Nad Al Sheba and Sobha Hartland have schools inside their boundaries and can take a 15:30 start. What actually varies between the communities is the board and science route their schools use, and that follows no map at all.

Start with the codes and the route

Before hiring an IGCSE science tutor in Nad Al Sheba, send three things: the syllabus codes, the tier if the board tiers, and which practical component your child sits. Those decide what correct practice looks like, and they are the facts almost nobody arrives with. The first lesson is a free diagnostic that samples all three sciences rather than teaching one, because the usual finding is that only one of them needs weekly support and the rest needs shared method work. You get a written note naming which, and the AED arithmetic for one subject against three is on this page with its sources.
