IB Physics Tutor in Nad Al Sheba

An IB physics tutor in Nad Al Sheba is usually hired after a first Higher Level report lands, and the first useful question is comparative: is this subject the problem, or is it the combination? This page sets physics beside the alternatives — HL chemistry, the maths course underneath it, the investigation competing with two others — and sets out the paper weightings, the five themes and the 24-mark criteria. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Nad Al Sheba

Is it physics, or is it the combination?

Most families who go looking for an IB physics tutor in Nad Al Sheba are reacting to a specific event: a DP1 report, a failed topic test, or a mock grade two bands below the predicted one. The instinct is to treat physics as the problem and buy physics hours. Often that is right. Just as often the problem is comparative — physics is the subject that broke first under a load three Higher Level subjects were always going to create, and fixing it in isolation moves the breakage somewhere else.

So this page is written as a comparison. Physics against chemistry, as the second HL science a student might have chosen instead. Physics against the maths course underneath it, which is more often the real constraint than the physics itself. The investigation against the two other internal assessments competing for the same weeks. And the Nad Al Sheba school cluster against the one next door, which turns out to matter far less than any of the above.

The district context is worth having. Repton School Dubai, Kings' School Nad Al Sheba and GEMS Modern Academy sit inside Nad Al Sheba; Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai are in Sobha Hartland; Swiss International Scientific School Dubai is at Al Jaddaf. Dubai held 387,441 private-school students across 227 schools in 2024-25 across seventeen licensed curricula, with the IB accounting for around 7% of enrolment. Physics Higher Level cohorts in individual schools are small, which has a direct consequence for tutoring: the pool of local specialists is small for the same reason.

That is the structural argument for online delivery in this subject specifically. A Nad Al Sheba family looking for somebody who teaches IB Physics at Higher Level, knows the current five-theme syllabus rather than the previous options-based one, and has marked investigations against the four criteria, is looking for a narrow specialism. Within a twenty-minute drive that person may not exist. Within the timezone they do.

IB Gram delivers tuition to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video, and does not send tutors to addresses in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For physics there is also a practical gain: on a shared screen a graph can be plotted live, a gradient taken from it, and the official mark scheme read beside the student's own working, all without anything being passed across a table.

One practical instruction before the detail, because it shortens everything that follows. Bring a marked script rather than a report card to the first conversation: a topic test, a mock paper, a returned data-analysis question, anything with annotations still on it. A grade tells you how large the problem is. A script tells you whether the lost marks were theme content the student never met, command terms misread under time pressure, or algebra that failed halfway through a rearrangement. Those three diagnoses lead to three different purchases, and buying the wrong one is the most common way a term of physics tutoring in this corridor gets spent without the grade moving at all.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A physics grade is built across four stages, and the comparison that matters at each is with the alternative the student could have taken instead. These are the stages Nad Al Sheba students pass through on the way to a Diploma physics result.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

MYP sciences are marked on four criteria out of 8 each, including scientific inquiry and reflecting on the impacts of science. Students who score well on knowledge and poorly on inquiry are the ones who later struggle with the Diploma investigation, because the investigation is an inquiry task rather than a knowledge task. Identifying that pattern in Year 10 is far cheaper than discovering it in DP2.

Several schools in and around Nad Al Sheba run MYP directly into the Diploma, so the transition is internal and the school sets the pacing. The common gap is timed written examination: a student who has been assessed through criteria-based tasks meets a two-hour physics paper in DP1 with no experience of pacing one.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics as the alternative route

Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1, depending on the school. Students arriving in DP1 from IGCSE physics have met most of the mechanics and electricity content and almost none of the quantum and nuclear material, and they have been trained to write more detail than an IB mark scheme rewards. That over-writing is the first thing worth correcting.

In this block of schools, students arrive in Diploma physics from both IGCSE and MYP, often in the same class. A tutor should ask which route the student came by, because the two groups have opposite habits: IGCSE students over-write and MYP students under-specify, and the correction runs in different directions.

UAE schools sit the May session. Dubai Diploma students also carry KHDA's mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies lessons alongside six subjects, Theory of Knowledge and CAS, which compresses the week more than a European DP timetable would. No IB session or results date appears on this page: confirm every one with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org.

ALTAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

The subject a student takes instead

Chemistry, biology, computer science or design technology occupy the same slot in most Diploma timetables, and the comparison is a live one in DP1 for students who find physics harder than expected. Each has its own investigation worth 20% and its own failure modes. A switch is only sensible in the first weeks, and only with evidence rather than relief as the motive.

In the Nad Al Sheba cluster, physics Higher Level cohorts are typically smaller than chemistry ones, which has two consequences worth knowing. Timetable clashes are more likely, and a student who struggles has fewer classmates working at the same level to compare notes with. Both are arguments for outside subject support rather than for switching.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is one subject with five themes and two levels, and the tutoring decision is made at theme level. Below are the themes and the components Nad Al Sheba students bring, described by where the marks actually go in each.

Theme A: Space, time and motion

HL and SL, HL extension included

Kinematics, forces, momentum, work and energy, with circular motion and at Higher Level relativistic ideas. The strand where IGCSE students feel most at home and therefore the one they revise most and gain least from. Marks go in unstated assumptions and in using an average velocity where an instantaneous one was required.

Theme B: The particulate nature of matter

HL and SL, HL extension included

Thermal physics, the gas laws, internal energy and at Higher Level entropy and engine cycles. Sign conventions in the first law cost two marks at a time, reliably, and students who can state the law often cannot apply it to a compression. Graph work on pressure-volume cycles rewards reading the axes before the question.

Theme C: Wave behaviour

HL and SL, HL extension included

Simple harmonic motion, wave properties, superposition, standing waves and Doppler effects, with Higher Level extensions on diffraction and resolution. The single most common loss is confusing path difference with phase difference, and the second is sketching a standing wave without marking nodes.

Theme D: Fields

HL and SL, HL extension included

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, circuits, electromagnetic induction and at Higher Level field potential and capacitance. Circuit questions reward redrawing the circuit before calculating. Induction questions reward stating which flux is changing, which is the step most students skip straight past.

Theme E: Nuclear and quantum physics

HL and SL, HL extension included

Radioactivity, fission and fusion, the photoelectric effect, matter waves and at Higher Level quantum tunnelling and nuclear binding. The theme IGCSE students have met least, which makes it the most common genuine content gap in a DP2 diagnostic and the one worth front-loading.

Paper 1A: Multiple choice

Part of the 36% Paper 1

Thirty to forty questions depending on level, no marks for method, and therefore the paper where guessing strategy and pace matter as much as knowledge. Students lose marks by spending four minutes on one question and then rushing six. Timed practice on sections of ten is the drill.

Paper 1B: Data analysis

Part of the 36% Paper 1

Experimental data, graphs, uncertainties and evaluation of a method. Highly predictable in structure and under-practised, which makes it the best return on tutoring time in the whole subject. Uncertainty propagation and gradient-with-error work are mechanical once taught properly.

Paper 2: Extended response

44% of the grade

Structured longer questions across the themes, where command terms decide the mark. An answer that explains when the question said state scores the state marks only. Students who write a paragraph for a two-mark question run out of time on the last page, which is where the heaviest questions sit.

The scientific investigation

20% at both levels

An individual experimental or data-based investigation marked on four criteria over 24 marks with a 3,000-word limit. Research design and evaluation are the criteria most often scored low, and both reward specificity about variables and limitations rather than more data.

Uncertainties and error analysis

Both levels, examined in Paper 1B and the investigation

Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, propagation through calculations, and uncertainty bars with best and worst-fit gradients. Taught once in most schools and assessed repeatedly, which is why it appears as a gap in the majority of physics diagnostics in this corridor.

Mathematical requirements for physics

Both levels

Logarithms, trigonometry, vector resolution and at Higher Level calculus-shaped reasoning. A student on Applications and Interpretation Standard Level taking Physics Higher Level is carrying a genuine gap here, and it is more often the real cause of poor physics marks than the physics content is.

Practical skills and the lab programme

Both levels, school-delivered

The school runs the practical programme and the collaborative sciences project; those are not something an outside tutor delivers. What a tutor can do is prepare the thinking around them: variable control, method justification, uncertainty estimation and the write-up conventions the criteria reward.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Physics support takes three shapes across the Diploma, and which one a Nad Al Sheba student needs depends on whether the diagnosis is content, technique or the investigation. All three are live one-to-one video sessions with a named tutor.

Weekly theme session

One tutor, one weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time, working the theme the school is on rather than the textbook order. Higher Level extension content is examined alongside the core, so a Higher Level student needs the extension material taught as part of each theme rather than saved for a separate push later.

  • Level confirmed before the first session, HL or SL
  • Tracks the school's current theme and next assessment
  • Uncertainty work built in rather than bolted on
  • A free trial lesson before anything is booked

Paper 1B and uncertainty blocks

A short run of three or four sessions on data analysis, graph work, uncertainty propagation and best-and-worst-fit gradients. Highly predictable in structure, under-practised in most schools, and mechanical once taught properly, which makes it the best return per hour available in this subject.

  • Graph plotted live on a shared screen, gradient taken together
  • Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty drilled
  • Evaluation-of-method questions practised to a template
  • Three or four sessions, then the block ends

Investigation feedback sessions

Scheduled around the school's internal deadlines rather than weekly. The tutor reads the student's own draft against the four criteria and returns written feedback on research design, data treatment, conclusion and evaluation. No text, data or analysis is produced for the student at any stage.

  • Variable control and method justification discussed before data collection
  • Feedback mapped to the four criteria and their 24 marks
  • The 3,000-word limit checked against the current subject guide
  • Nothing drafted, rewritten or supplied

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Nad Al Sheba

01

Physics against chemistry: which Higher Level science is harder here?

This is the comparison a DP1 student in Nad Al Sheba is usually making privately before a parent makes it out loud. Both sciences carry a 20% investigation, both examine Higher Level extension content alongside the core, and both punish command-term carelessness. They are hard in different places, and knowing where helps a family decide whether to get support or to consider a change while a change is still possible.

Physics is more mathematical and more front-loaded on reasoning. A student who can resolve vectors, handle logarithms and rearrange fluently will find the content tractable even when it is unfamiliar. A student whose maths is shaky will struggle in physics regardless of how well they understand the ideas, because the marks sit in the execution. That is why the maths course underneath is so often the real diagnosis.

Chemistry is more memory-dense and more sensitive to precision in language. Organic mechanisms, equilibrium sign conventions and definitions that must be stated exactly carry marks that physics awards for reasoning instead. A student with a strong verbal memory and weak algebra will usually find chemistry the kinder of the two; the reverse student will find physics so.

The practical conclusion for a Nad Al Sheba family mid-DP1 is narrow. If the physics marks are poor and the maths marks are also poor, the physics tutoring should start with the mathematical requirements, not with theme content. If the physics marks are poor and the maths is strong, the diagnosis is usually command terms and Paper 1B technique, which is a short fix. Switching subject is the right answer rarely, and only in the first weeks when the investigation has not begun.

02

The papers, the weightings and the themes behind them

Parents are rarely shown how a physics grade is assembled, and it is worth seeing. Paper 1 carries 36% and splits into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section. Paper 2 carries 44% in structured extended response. The scientific investigation carries 20% at both levels. Standard Level runs 150 teaching hours and Higher Level 240, which is the honest measure of the step between them.

The current syllabus is organised around five themes rather than the older core-plus-options structure, and Higher Level extension content sits inside those themes rather than in a separate paper. That has a direct teaching consequence that some tutors have not caught up with: a Higher Level student cannot cover the core first and add the extension later, because the extension questions appear alongside the core ones on the same paper and often inside the same question.

Each paper punishes something specific. Paper 1A punishes poor pacing, since there are no method marks and four minutes spent on one question is paid for by six rushed ones. Paper 1B punishes never having practised uncertainty propagation, which is mechanical and under-taught. Paper 2 punishes command-term carelessness and over-writing, because the heaviest questions sit at the end and a student who wrote paragraphs earlier arrives there with no time.

Reading the table below alongside a marked mock script is the most useful twenty minutes a parent can spend. It tells you which of three very different problems you have: content missing from a theme, technique missing on a paper, or time management across the whole sitting. Those need different purchases, and buying the wrong one is how a term gets spent without a grade moving.

The scientific investigation: four criteria, 24 marks, 3,000 words

A fifth of the physics grade is a piece of written scientific work, and it is the most controllable fifth in the course because it can be planned in daylight. It is marked on four criteria over 24 marks with a 3,000-word limit, and a piece that runs to 4,200 words has not impressed anybody — the excess simply goes unread.

The criteria reward specificity above all. Research design wants the variables named, the control justified and the method capable of actually answering the question asked. Data analysis wants uncertainties carried through rather than mentioned. The conclusion wants a comparison with accepted physics, stated numerically where possible. Evaluation wants limitations identified and their effect on the result reasoned, not a list of ways the experiment could have been better.

The two criteria most often scored low in this corridor are research design and evaluation, and both are failures of specificity rather than of effort. A student who writes 'the temperature was kept constant' without saying how, or 'human error may have affected the results' without saying which measurement and in which direction, has written sentences that score nothing. Translating the criteria wording into a checklist takes twenty minutes and is worth more than another week of data collection.

The honesty boundary is firm and worth stating to the student directly. A tutor may discuss whether a research question is feasible and whether the method can answer it, explain what each criterion asks for, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not design the experiment, produce or clean the data, write any part of the text, or edit the piece to completion. The declaration on the submitted work is the student's, and one page ranking in this market sells completed internal assessments outright.

The maths course underneath the physics

This is the diagnosis that saves Nad Al Sheba families the most money, and almost nobody checks it first. IB Physics assumes a level of mathematical fluency that the Diploma maths courses deliver unevenly. A student taking Physics Higher Level alongside Applications and Interpretation Standard Level is carrying a real gap, and that gap looks exactly like weakness in physics.

The specific demands are identifiable. Vector resolution for forces and fields. Logarithms for radioactive decay and intensity. Fluent rearrangement for every multi-step calculation. Trigonometry beyond right-angled triangles for wave and circular motion questions. Gradient and area interpretation on every graph. None of those are physics content, and all of them cost physics marks when they are shaky.

The test is cheap. Take a physics question the student got wrong and ask them to do only the algebra, with the physics already set up for them. If they can, the problem is the physics. If they cannot, the problem is the maths, and physics tutoring that ignores that will deliver three months of frustration at specialist rates. In this corridor the second case is more common than parents expect, particularly among students who chose Applications and Interpretation for its reputation as the lighter course.

What follows from that is a different purchase. Sometimes the right answer is four sessions on the mathematical requirements for physics, delivered inside the physics context so the student sees the point, and then a return to theme content. Sometimes it is a parallel maths session for a term. Occasionally it is a conversation with the school about the maths course, which is only possible very early in DP1. All three are better than more physics hours.

What physics tuition costs in an examined year

Start with the figure that actually lands on a card in DP2, because that is the one families in this corridor plan around. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 estimates put specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more per month, mid-band support at AED 600 to 1,200, and budget support at AED 240 to 600, all for a weekly one-hour session. Packages published elsewhere in the market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

Translate that into hourly bands and the market reads as follows, all figures read in October 2026 and all belonging to whoever published them. Budget online or undergraduate tutoring runs AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor online runs AED 150 to 300, Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. An IB specialist runs AED 200 to 450 or more, TutorChase publishing AED 270. In-home one-to-one runs AED 180 to 500 including travel. The premium end reaches AED 650 at BartyED.

Physics Higher Level is one of the subjects where the band genuinely matters rather than signalling. Marking a Paper 1B uncertainty question correctly, or judging whether an investigation's research design will clear criterion one, is narrow work. An able undergraduate can revise kinematics with a Standard Level student perfectly well and cannot do either of those things, and pretending the bands are interchangeable would be dishonest in both directions.

The shape of the spend matters more than the rate. The highest-value windows are the term in which the investigation is drafted and the six weeks before papers, and they want different sessions. A family spending a flat monthly figure across two years will have overspent in DP1 term two and run out of room in DP2 term four. Ask any provider for the session length behind the quoted rate, whether VAT is included, and what happens if you stop after one lesson.

Practical work, when the tutoring is online

  • The school runs the laboratory programme; no outside tutor replaces it
  • The investigation is assessed on the write-up, not on bench technique
  • Paper 1B assesses reasoning about data the student did not collect
  • Graphs, uncertainty bars and gradients are better on a shared screen
  • No provider should offer to supply data or results, in any format

This is the honest question about online science tutoring and it deserves a straight answer rather than a reassurance. A tutor on video cannot run a practical. The school's laboratory programme, the equipment, the collaborative sciences project and the supervised data collection are the school's job, and nothing about an outside tutor replaces them.

What an online session can do is everything around the practical, which is where the assessed marks actually sit. The investigation is assessed on the write-up, not on laboratory technique: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Paper 1B assesses experimental reasoning on data the student has never collected. So the examined skills are analytical and written, and they are taught at a desk in either format.

In several respects a shared screen is better than a bench for this work. A graph can be plotted live with uncertainty bars, best and worst-fit lines drawn and compared, and a gradient taken while both people watch. A spreadsheet can be built together so the student sees how propagation works rather than being told. The official mark scheme sits open beside the student's own working. None of that is available with one exercise book between two people.

Where a parent should push back on any provider, in any format, is a claim to supply practical results or to produce data for an investigation. That is not tutoring and it is an academic-honesty breach. IB Gram does not host, reproduce or distribute IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables either; those are the board's copyright and are referenced and linked at ibo.org rather than copied.

07

The investigation against the two others in the same term

A Higher Level physics student in Nad Al Sheba is not writing one internal assessment. They are writing three, plus a 4,000-word Extended Essay and a 1,600-word Theory of Knowledge essay, and in most schools those land in a cluster across DP2 term four. The failure almost never looks like inability. It looks like a physics investigation written in four days because the maths exploration and a history investigation took the other three weeks.

That makes sequencing a tutoring job as much as a teaching one. The physics investigation benefits from being started early for a specific reason: it depends on data collection, which depends on laboratory access, which depends on the school's timetable. An exploration can be written at a desk the week before it is due. An investigation whose data turns out to be unusable cannot be rescued in a weekend.

The practical approach is to put all five deadlines on one page in September of DP2 and work backwards from the earliest. Decide which piece is being done first and protect its weeks. Decide which piece is going to be done to a competent rather than an excellent standard, because with five components and six subjects something will be, and choosing deliberately beats discovering it in April.

The comparison across subjects is worth naming too. Physics, chemistry and biology investigations share the same four criteria and 24 marks; the maths exploration uses five criteria over 20 marks; history uses three sections over 25. A student who understands that the science investigations are graded on specificity about variables, and the exploration on personal engagement and reflection, can target each rather than writing all five in the same register.

08

Online one-to-one against a tutor driving to the villa

For physics the comparison has one feature it does not have in essay subjects: almost all the work is diagrams, graphs and working. That changes which format loses less. Two people reading the same line of working, on the same screen, with the mark scheme beside it, is closer to a laboratory notebook review than to a conversation.

What a travelling tutor gives is presence. A parent can see the session, a student cannot drift to another tab, and drift gets noticed faster in a room. For a DP1 student with attention problems that is a real benefit and this page is not going to argue otherwise. It is also what the market charges roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour extra for, which across a two-year Diploma in a single subject runs to several thousand dirhams.

What online gives is reach, and in physics reach is the decisive factor. A Higher Level physics specialist who knows the current five-theme syllabus and has marked investigations against the four criteria is a narrow profile. Physics Higher Level cohorts in individual Nad Al Sheba schools are small, which means the supply of people who teach it all week is small locally and ample across the timezone.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. The table below therefore sets out the reasoning behind an existing decision rather than a sales case, and the last column is the district-specific part. Roads around Nad Al Sheba, Meydan and Mohammed Bin Rashid City at 15:00 decide what time a travelling tutor can start a session that needs concentration rather than chat.

Why Nad Al Sheba and Meydan get the same answer

  • HL physics cohorts are small in every school, so local supply is thin everywhere
  • The four communities differ in session start time, not in what students need
  • Diagnose first: physics content, the maths underneath, or the investigation
  • The format should follow the diagnosis rather than the other way round
  • If the specialist is not free, you get a date rather than a substitute

Having made several comparisons on this page, it is worth being explicit about the one that turns out not to matter. A physics student in Nad Al Sheba and a physics student in Meydan, Sobha Hartland or Mohammed Bin Rashid City need the same thing, and it is not available at different quality levels in different postcodes.

The reason is supply. Physics Higher Level is taught to small cohorts in each school, so the number of people within driving distance of any one Dubai community who teach it every week is small everywhere. A family in a well-served district is not better served for this subject than a family three kilometres away; both are drawing from a thin local pool, and both have the whole timezone available if they stop insisting on a car.

What does differ across the four communities is the clock. Nad Al Sheba and Sobha Hartland have schools inside their boundaries and can take a 15:30 session. Meydan runs 16:00 to 16:30 depending on the school. Mohammed Bin Rashid City loses time inside District One's road network before reaching Al Khail. Al Quoz families consistently start latest. Online delivery removes all four differences, because nothing has to travel.

So the recommendation is the same regardless of which of the four you live in: identify whether the problem is the physics, the maths underneath it or the investigation; buy the format that matches that diagnosis; and insist on a tutor matched to the level and the current syllabus rather than to the drive. The free trial lesson exists so that judgement is made by you, before anything is paid, and if the specialist you need is not free this term you get a date rather than a generalist.

Where we tutor

Nad Al Sheba, and the clusters either side

Students on this page come from across the central corridor, and what differs between the communities is the journey rather than the physics. These are the areas and the one thing that genuinely changes with each.

Nad Al Sheba

Repton School Dubai, Kings' School Nad Al Sheba and GEMS Modern Academy inside the district. Short school runs make a 15:30 session realistic, which matters for physics because data-analysis work needs concentration rather than conversation.

Sobha Hartland

Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai sit in the community itself. The easiest corridor in Dubai for scheduling a twice-weekly block during the investigation drafting window.

Meydan

Newer stock around the racecourse with many families in their first or second UAE year. More mid-course arrivals here, so requests often begin with a theme-by-theme audit against the school's scheme of work.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

District One villa plots with long internal roads and few exits onto Al Khail. Twenty minutes disappears inside the community at pick-up, which is why a travelling tutor cannot hold an early slot and a video session can.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Mixed residential and industrial with longer journeys to the Nad Al Sheba and Barsha schools. Weekday starts land after 17:00, so weekend sessions carry more of the Paper 1B drilling for students here.

Business Bay

Apartments and shorter commutes, with students mostly at Downtown and Al Jaddaf schools. Evening slots after 19:00 are common and suit a focused 45-minute uncertainty or graph-work session.

Downtown Dubai

No school on site, so every family drives out and back. The window between home and dinner is narrow, and in DP2 that window becomes the investigation plan rather than a convenience.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Swiss International Scientific School Dubai anchors this end with a bilingual IB continuum. Physics requests from here more often involve the written explanation alongside the technique, because command-term precision in a second language is harder.

DIFC

Few families, almost all in apartments with long parental working days. Weekend sessions dominate, and live video is the only format that survives a 20:00 start on a school night.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Nad Al Sheba

Nad Al Sheba and Sobha Hartland

The schools with Diploma provision inside or beside the district. Physics Higher Level cohorts in individual schools here are small, which is the structural reason local specialist supply is thin even in a dense school market.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say the level, the theme and what went wrong

Name Higher or Standard Level, which of the five themes the school is on, and what prompted the search: a topic test, a DP1 report, a mock, or an investigation deadline. If there is a marked script, that is worth more than all of it. Those details decide whether the first session is content, technique or sequencing.

  2. 02

    A free diagnostic trial lesson

One live session spent on a past-paper section, usually a data-analysis question, marked together rather than taught. It is designed to separate three possible diagnoses: missing theme content, missing technique, or a mathematical gap wearing physics clothing. You get a written note naming which. No payment is involved.

  3. 03

Check the maths before buying physics hours

If the diagnostic points at vectors, logarithms or rearrangement rather than physics, the first block is four sessions on the mathematical requirements delivered inside physics questions. That is a cheaper and faster fix than three months of theme revision, and skipping the check is how families spend specialist rates on the wrong subject.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions following the school's themes

The tutor asks for the current theme and the next assessment each week and works to those. For Higher Level students the extension content is taught inside each theme rather than saved up, because extension questions appear alongside core ones on the same paper and sometimes inside the same question.

  5. 05

Plan the investigation against the other four components

In September of DP2, put all five internal and core deadlines on one page and work backwards. The physics investigation goes early because it depends on laboratory access and on data that might not work. Deciding which component gets done to a competent rather than an excellent standard is part of the plan.

  6. 06

Paper blocks for the final term

Content coverage stops and sessions become timed sections marked against official schemes, with Paper 1A pacing and Paper 1B uncertainty work drilled separately. Cadence rises to two or three sessions a week for a fixed number of weeks, with a written list of topics to stop revising.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The maths gap checked first

Physics assumes vector resolution, logarithms and fluent rearrangement, and a shaky grasp of those looks exactly like weakness in physics. The diagnostic separates the two before any block is bought, because three months of theme revision will not fix an algebra problem.

Paper 1B treated as the opportunity it is

Data analysis and uncertainty work is predictable in structure, mechanical once taught, and under-practised in most schools. Where the diagnostic points there, the right purchase is three or four sessions that end rather than an open-ended weekly hour.

The current five-theme syllabus, taught as it is examined

Higher Level extension content sits inside the five themes and appears alongside core material on the same paper. Tutors work it that way rather than covering the core first and adding the extension later, which is how the older options structure was taught.

Straight talk about what online cannot do

A video session cannot run a practical, and the school's laboratory programme is not something an outside tutor replaces. What is assessed — research design, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation and Paper 1B reasoning — is written work, and that is taught at a desk in either format.

AED figures with their sources attached

Every band on this page is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it and dated to October 2026. Three of six researched competitors publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in.

No invented dates and no borrowed credentials

UAE schools sit the May session, and no specific IB date appears here because ibo.org blocks automated checking. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education or the IB, and claims none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Nad Al Sheba: your questions answered

Is the IB physics tutoring delivered in Nad Al Sheba itself or online?+

Online, one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses; home visits are a service we run only in India. For physics the format matters less than the match, because Higher Level cohorts in individual Dubai schools are small and so is the pool of people within driving distance who teach the subject every week. A shared screen also suits the work: a graph with uncertainty bars can be plotted live and a gradient taken while both people watch.

Should my child be doing physics or chemistry at Higher Level?+

They are hard in different places. Physics rewards mathematical execution — vector resolution, logarithms, fluent rearrangement — and punishes a shaky grasp of those regardless of conceptual understanding. Chemistry is more memory-dense and more sensitive to exact language in definitions and sign conventions. Both carry a 20% investigation marked on four criteria over 24 marks, so switching brings no relief on workload. A switch is only sensible in the first weeks of DP1, with evidence rather than relief as the motive.

How is the IB physics grade split between the papers?+

Paper 1 carries 36% and splits into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section. Paper 2 carries 44% in structured extended response. The scientific investigation carries 20% at both Standard and Higher Level. Standard Level courses run 150 teaching hours and Higher Level 240, which is the real measure of the step between them. A fifth of the grade is therefore settled before any exam, which makes the investigation the most controllable part of the course.

Why does my child lose marks on physics questions they say they understood?+

Three usual causes, and they need different fixes. Command terms: an answer that explains when the paper said state earns the state marks only. Unstated assumptions: a correct calculation that never says which simplification was made. And the mathematics: a student who understands the physics but cannot rearrange fluently loses the execution marks. Take one wrong question and ask them to do only the algebra with the physics already set up. If they cannot, the diagnosis is maths rather than physics.

What are the four criteria on the physics investigation?+

Research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, each worth 6 marks for a total of 24, with a 3,000-word limit on the write-up. Research design wants variables named and controls justified rather than asserted. Data analysis wants uncertainties propagated, not merely mentioned. The conclusion wants a numerical comparison against accepted physics. Evaluation wants limitations identified with their direction and effect reasoned, which is why generic references to human error score nothing at all.

Can a tutor help with the investigation without breaking the rules?+

Within a clear line, yes. A tutor may discuss whether a research question is feasible, whether the method can actually answer it, and what each criterion asks for, and may give written feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not design the experiment, produce or clean data, write any part of the text or edit it to completion. The declaration on the submitted work is the student's. A page ranking in this market sells completed internal assessments, which is a malpractice trigger for the student.

Does the maths course my child chose affect their physics grade?+

More than most families expect. Physics assumes vector resolution, logarithms, trigonometry beyond right-angled triangles and fluent rearrangement. Analysis and Approaches builds all of those, and its non-calculator paper reinforces the rearrangement fluency specifically. Applications and Interpretation covers some of them less securely, so a student taking Physics Higher Level alongside Applications and Interpretation Standard Level is carrying a real gap that looks like weakness in physics. It is worth testing for before buying physics hours.

How can online tutoring help with practical work?+

It cannot run the practical, and no honest provider should claim to. The school's laboratory programme, equipment and supervised data collection are the school's job. What a tutor can do is everything the investigation is actually assessed on: research design, variable control, uncertainty treatment, the conclusion's numerical comparison and the evaluation's reasoning. Paper 1B likewise assesses experimental reasoning about data the student never collected. Those are written and analytical skills, taught at a desk in either format.

What is Paper 1B and why is it the easiest part to improve?+

It is the data-analysis section of Paper 1: experimental data, graphs, uncertainties and evaluation of a method. It is highly predictable in structure and under-practised in most schools, which is an unusual combination. Uncertainty propagation, best and worst-fit gradients and error bars are mechanical once taught properly, so three or four focused sessions move the score in a way that three or four sessions of theme revision rarely do. It is the best return per hour available in IB physics.

Which physics theme do students most often arrive missing?+

Nuclear and quantum physics. Students coming from IGCSE physics have met mechanics and electricity in some depth and this material hardly at all, so it shows up as a genuine content gap in most DP2 diagnostics rather than as a technique issue. The practical consequence is that it should be front-loaded rather than left to the end of a revision plan, which is where it usually sits because syllabus order puts it last.

How do we manage three internal assessments landing in the same term?+

Put all five deadlines on one page in September of DP2 — three internal assessments, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay — and work backwards from the earliest. Start the physics investigation first, because it depends on laboratory access and on data that might turn out unusable, which cannot be rescued in a weekend. Then decide deliberately which component will be done to a competent rather than an excellent standard, since with six subjects something will be.

How much does an IB physics tutor cost in Dubai?+

Market figures read in October 2026: budget online tutoring AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52; a qualified subject tutor online AED 150 to 300, Unitors listing IB from AED 200; an IB specialist AED 200 to 450 or more, TutorChase publishing AED 270; in-home visits AED 180 to 500 including travel; and a premium end reaching AED 650 at BartyED. Monthly, Bestimate puts specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more.

Is it worth hiring a specialist rather than a general science tutor?+

For Standard Level theme revision, a strong general science tutor can be perfectly adequate and costs less. For Higher Level, Paper 1B uncertainty work and investigation feedback, it is genuinely different work: judging whether a research design will clear criterion one, or marking uncertainty propagation correctly, is narrow experience. The bands in this market broadly reflect that. Ask any tutor to talk through where marks go on Paper 1B and you will know within ten minutes which you are speaking to.

Can one tutor take physics and maths for the same student?+

At Standard Level, often, and it can be the efficient choice because the maths gap and the physics gap get fixed in the same hour. At Higher Level in both, it is a narrow request: genuine depth in Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 and in Higher Level physics papers rarely sits in one person, and a tutor who stretches to cover both is a generalist with two labels. We will say which case applies rather than filling the slot.

Where can we find the real IB exam dates for physics?+

From your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org directly. UAE schools sit the May session, and that is as specific as this page gets, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. Dates circulate on secondary sites and get republished without verification, and a family planning travel around one of those is acting on an unchecked number. One email to the coordinator settles it.

Do you supply past papers, mark schemes or data for the investigation?+

No to all three, for different reasons. Papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides are the board's copyright, some of it unreleased, so we reference and link ibo.org rather than hosting or distributing them; your school holds licensed access. Data for an investigation is an academic-honesty matter rather than a copyright one: the student collects and processes their own, and any provider offering to supply results is offering something that puts the student at risk.

Diagnose first, then buy the right hours

Before hiring an IB physics tutor in Nad Al Sheba, it is worth knowing which of three problems you have: missing theme content, missing paper technique, or a mathematical gap that looks like physics. Send the level, the current theme and the most recent marked script, and the first session will separate them. That lesson is a free diagnostic worked on a data-analysis question, marked together, with a written note afterwards. If the specialist you need is not free this term you get a date rather than a substitute, and the AED bands above are on the page with their sources so you can compare before speaking to anyone.
