IB Tutor near me in Nad Al Sheba

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Nad Al Sheba usually turns up a map pin and a price. This page gives you the syllabus instead: which paper carries which weighting, which command terms cost marks, which internal assessment criteria letters students in Nad Al Sheba drop, and what Dubai's tutoring market actually charges in AED. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the tutor is chosen by subject and level rather than by driving distance from your villa.

IB & IGCSE in Nad Al Sheba

What a Nad Al Sheba parent is really asking when they type this

Nad Al Sheba sits between Dubai–Al Ain Road and the Meydan corridor, which puts a cluster of large private schools within a short drive and a very different set of schools within a long one. Families here send children to Repton School Dubai and GEMS Modern Academy inside the district itself, to Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai across in Sobha Hartland, and to Swiss International Scientific School Dubai over at Al Jaddaf. Several of those schools run the IB Diploma; several run it alongside a British secondary track. So a search for an IB tutor near me in Nad Al Sheba is rarely a search for geography. It is a search for somebody who knows the exact course the child is enrolled on.

That distinction matters because the IB is not one syllabus. A student in DP1 at one Nad Al Sheba school may be taking Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level with a 20-mark exploration due in term two, while a neighbour two streets away is taking Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level with a completely different Paper 2 and a graphic-display-calculator requirement throughout. A tutor who covers maths but has never marked an AA HL Paper 3 is the wrong tutor for the first student and a perfectly good one for the second. Distance tells you nothing about which you are getting.

The second thing hidden inside the query is time. Nad Al Sheba school days end between 14:30 and 15:30 depending on the school and the year group, and the drive back from the Sobha Hartland and Al Jaddaf schools in afternoon traffic eats most of an hour. A tutor who has to cross Dubai to reach you either arrives at 17:30 or charges for the journey. Online delivery removes that arithmetic entirely: a 16:00 session is a 16:00 session, and the half-hour saved either side is the difference between a child who can concentrate and one who cannot.

IB Gram delivers tuition for UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video. We do not send tutors to addresses anywhere in the UAE — home visits are a service we run only in India. That is a deliberate position rather than a limitation, and the rest of this page argues it on the evidence: the market rate for a home visit in Dubai carries a travel premium of roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour over the same teaching delivered online, and what that premium buys is proximity rather than subject depth.

Everything below is built around syllabus content, because that is the part no competing page in this search publishes. You will find the assessment weightings by paper, the command terms that turn a correct answer into a zero, the internal assessment criteria by letter with their mark allocations, the published word limits for every DP component, what the KHDA inspection band on your school's report actually means, and the academic-honesty line a tutor may not cross. Where a figure is a market rate rather than ours, it is attributed to whoever published it and dated.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Nad Al Sheba students arrive at the IB by three different routes: a full continuum from PYP, a jump from a British Year 11 into DP1, or a move from MYP into the Diploma inside the same school. Each route leaves a different gap, and the three programmes below are described in terms of the gap rather than the brochure.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-KG to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP assesses through transdisciplinary units of inquiry rather than terminal papers, which is why a strong PYP report can sit alongside a shaky grasp of written number work. Tutoring at this stage is diagnostic: find whether the child can explain a method aloud, whether place value and fraction equivalence are secure, and whether reading comprehension holds up on an unfamiliar text. The exhibition in the final PYP year is the first piece of extended independent work most children produce, and it rewards planning more than knowledge.

In Dubai, PYP sits alongside KHDA's mandatory subjects: Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are required in every private school regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes organised for Arab and non-Arab students. A Nad Al Sheba family new to the emirate often meets Arabic as a timetabled subject for the first time here, and that is frequently the first tutoring request.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP marks on a 1-8 scale against four criteria per subject, and the criteria are published. A student scoring 5s is usually losing marks in one criterion consistently rather than everywhere, and the fix is to read that criterion's wording with them. The MYP eAssessment and the Personal Project in the final year are where the programme becomes concrete, and the Personal Project is assessed on the process journal as much as the product.

Nad Al Sheba sits near schools running MYP into DP inside one building, so the transition is internal and the school controls the pacing. That makes the MYP-to-DP gap narrower on paper and wider in practice: students who were never examined under timed conditions meet their first two-hour paper in DP1. Mock-paper practice under a clock is the single most useful thing to add in the final MYP year.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. The arithmetic matters: 42 points come from the six subjects at 7 each, and up to 3 more from the TOK and Extended Essay matrix. A student with three HL subjects is carrying three internal assessments, an Extended Essay and a TOK essay in the same twelve months, and the failure mode is almost never ability. It is sequencing.

UAE schools sit the May session. Dubai DP students also carry the KHDA mandatory subjects alongside the Diploma, which compresses the timetable further than a DP cohort in Europe would recognise. Published IB session and results dates are not restated here: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so confirm every date with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org directly.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP pairs at least two DP courses with a career-related study and a core of personal and professional skills, reflective project, service learning and language development. It is offered in a small number of UAE schools and is sometimes the right answer for a student who is strong in two subjects and sinking under six. Tutoring here concentrates on the DP courses carried forward and on the reflective project, which is assessed on process evidence.

Because CP provision in Dubai is thin, families comparing it against a full Diploma usually need a conversation about MoE equivalency before they commit. Equivalency rules are set by the Ministry of Education and must be checked on moe.gov.ae for the specific qualification combination; nobody at a tutoring platform can decide that for you, and no page should imply otherwise.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the DP subjects Nad Al Sheba students most often ask for, described by what the assessment actually tests and where the marks go missing. The descriptions name papers and weightings because that is the level at which tutoring decisions get made.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

HL adds Paper 3, a two-question extended investigation worth 20% of the grade, and it is the paper that separates a 6 from a 7. Students lose marks by writing conclusions the working does not support and by abandoning a part-marked question halfway. The exploration carries another 20% and is marked on criteria A to E over 20 marks.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

A calculator is assumed throughout, which misleads students into skipping the algebra that justifies an answer. Statistics and modelling dominate, and marks disappear in the interpretation sentence at the end of a question rather than in the computation. HL adds Paper 3 with extended data-driven problems.

Physics

HL and SL

The new syllabus is organised around five themes, and HL extension content is examined alongside core material rather than in a separate paper. Paper 1 splits into multiple choice and data analysis. Marks go in unit errors, in failing to state an assumption, and in describing a graph instead of using its gradient.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity are the two organising themes, and the HL additions sit inside both. The scientific investigation is worth 20% and is marked on four criteria over 24 marks with a 3,000-word limit. Energetics and equilibrium questions are where sign conventions quietly cost two marks at a time.

Biology

HL and SL

Command terms do more damage in Biology than in any other science: an answer that explains when the paper said outline earns the outline marks only. The syllabus is unification-and-diversity themed, and data-based questions on unfamiliar experiments reward reading the axes carefully more than recall.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is guided textual analysis on unseen non-literary texts, Paper 2 a comparative essay, and the Individual Oral is assessed on four criteria over 40 marks. The HL essay adds a 1,200-1,500 word formal essay. Students lose marks by summarising rather than analysing the writer's choices.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams are marked, not decorative: an unlabelled axis or a missing new equilibrium point costs marks that the surrounding prose cannot recover. Paper 3 at HL is quantitative and policy-focused. The internal assessment is three commentaries on published news articles, each with its own word limit.

Business Management

HL and SL

The tools — Ansoff, BCG, force field analysis — are examined for application to the stimulus, not for definition. HL adds the business research project. Standard-level students lose marks by listing a tool's parts instead of using it to reach a judgement the question asked for.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Pseudocode conventions are specified by the IB and are marked as written, which catches students who code fluently in Python and translate loosely. HL adds abstract data structures and resource management. The solution development internal assessment is assessed on documented process, not on how impressive the program looks.

Arabic B and Arabic ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Dubai private schools must teach Arabic under KHDA requirements, and the DP language B route is where that obligation meets an examined grade. Productive writing is assessed on message, language and conceptual understanding of audience and purpose, so register errors cost more than vocabulary gaps.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The TOK essay is 1,600 words on one of six prescribed titles, and the exhibition presents three objects against a knowledge question. Students write about the topic rather than about knowledge, which is the single most common reason a thoughtful essay lands in band C rather than band A.

Extended Essay

Core

Four thousand words in a chosen DP subject, marked on five criteria over 34 marks, with the reflections on planning and progress contributing directly. A tutor may discuss method, scope and argument structure and give written feedback; a tutor may not draft, rewrite or supply text for it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every request from this corridor. Each is a live video session with a named tutor; the difference is cadence and what the hour is being spent on. Nad Al Sheba families most often start with the first and add the third in the term before papers.

Weekly one-to-one by subject

One tutor, one subject, one fixed slot each week on Gulf Standard Time. The tutor works to your child's school scheme of work, which means asking for the current unit and the next assessment date in the first session rather than starting from the syllabus front page. Progress is reported against the specific criteria the school marks on.

  • Same tutor each week, so the diagnostic work is not repeated
  • Session notes reference the school's own assessment calendar
  • A free trial lesson before any commitment
  • Slots from 15:30 GST, after the Nad Al Sheba school run

Internal assessment and Extended Essay feedback

Scheduled around the school's internal deadlines rather than weekly. The tutor reads the student's own draft against the published criteria and returns written feedback on structure, method and argument. No text is drafted, rewritten or supplied. That boundary is stated to the student in the first session, because the student signs an academic-honesty declaration and needs to understand what it covers.

  • Feedback against criteria letters and their mark allocations
  • Method and scope discussed before the student writes
  • Word and page limits checked against the current subject guide
  • Nothing written for the student, at any stage

Paper-focused revision blocks

Short intensive runs in the weeks before mocks or final papers, built entirely around past paper work under timed conditions. Papers are worked from the school's own licensed copies or the official board platform; we do not host or distribute board material. The session is spent on the marking, not on the sitting.

  • Timed practice marked against the official mark scheme
  • Command-term drill on the student's weakest question types
  • Two or three sessions a week for a fixed number of weeks
  • A written list of the topics to leave alone

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Nad Al Sheba

01

What this search returns in Nad Al Sheba, and what it should return

  • Three of six researched competitor pages publish no price at all
  • Five of six carry no comparison table of any kind
  • The strongest page measured in this cluster runs about 2,294 words
  • Nobody in the researched set names an IA criterion by letter

Typing an IB tutor near me in Nad Al Sheba into Google produces three kinds of result: agency pages with no prices, marketplace listings sorted by distance, and blog posts about the area written by somebody who has never been in it. None of them answer the question a parent is actually holding, which is whether the person they are about to pay knows the paper their child is sitting in five months.

Distance is a poor proxy for that. A tutor eight minutes away in Meydan may teach general science to Year 9 and have never seen a DP Chemistry investigation marked against the four criteria. A specialist who teaches Chemistry HL every weekday afternoon is the better answer even though the lesson arrives over video. The research behind this page measured sixty competitor pages in this market: three of six publish no price at all, five of six carry no data table, and the best page in the cluster runs about 2,294 words. The information a parent needs to decide simply is not on those pages.

So the honest version of the answer is this. Nad Al Sheba is well served for schools and poorly served for subject-specific tutors, because the pool of people within a twenty-minute drive who teach one IB subject at one level is small by arithmetic. Online one-to-one widens that pool to the whole timezone without widening the price. The sections that follow give you the syllabus detail to test any tutor you speak to, including ours — the command terms, the criteria letters, the weightings and the limits. A tutor who cannot discuss those fluently is not a specialist, whatever the map says.

02

Command terms: where a correct answer still scores nothing

The IB publishes a command-term glossary for every subject, and examiners mark to it. A student who writes a complete and accurate explanation in response to a question that said state has written something true and unmarked. This is the most recoverable source of lost marks in the whole Diploma, because it costs nothing to learn and shows up on every paper.

The pattern in Nad Al Sheba cohorts is consistent with the pattern everywhere: students who moved into the DP from a British Year 11 over-write, because IGCSE rewarded detail; students who came up through MYP under-write, because MYP criteria rewarded reflection over precision. Both groups need the same drill, from opposite directions. Twenty minutes of a weekly session on command terms for four weeks changes a paper score more reliably than four more hours of content revision.

The table below covers the terms that appear most often across the science, maths and humanities papers. Learn the mark bracket alongside the term: a two-mark question wants two scoring points and nothing else, and the time spent on a third point is time stolen from a later question. Past-paper work is where this becomes automatic, which is why a revision block is spent on marking rather than on sitting.

One more thing is worth drilling alongside the term itself: the number of scoring points the mark bracket implies. A three-mark explain question wants three linked statements, and a student who writes five is being generous with time they will need on the last page. Nad Al Sheba students sitting three Higher Level subjects run out of minutes on at least one paper most mock seasons, and almost always on the paper where they wrote most.

03

Internal assessment by criteria letter, mark allocation and word limit

Internal assessment is where a Nad Al Sheba DP student's grade is decided quietly, months before the papers. In maths and the sciences it carries 20% of the subject grade. In some humanities and language courses it carries more. It is marked against published criteria with published mark allocations, and the student can read those criteria. Most do not, which is the whole opportunity.

The published limits are equally concrete and equally ignored. A 3,000-word scientific investigation that runs to 4,200 words has not impressed anybody; the excess is unread. A TOK essay is 1,600 words against one of six prescribed titles, and an essay that writes about the topic instead of about knowledge lands in a lower band however elegant it is. An Extended Essay is 4,000 words marked over five criteria and 34 marks, with the reflections on planning contributing directly to the total.

The table below is the reference sheet. Check it against your child's current subject guide before relying on it, because the IB revises components on a rolling cycle and the school's coordinator holds the current version. What the table is for is the conversation a parent needs to have at the start of DP1: which of these is due when, in what order, and which two of them collide in the same month.

One further habit helps more than any content revision in DP1. Ask your child to read the criterion wording aloud and then say, in their own words, what a top-band response does differently from a middle-band one. If they cannot, the criteria have not been read, and no amount of redrafting will fix a piece of work that was aimed at the wrong target. This takes ten minutes and it is the cheapest mark recovery available in the Diploma.

What a parent in Nad Al Sheba can verify about tutoring prices

Start with what you can check yourself, because that is the only pricing claim worth anything. Open the five or six tutoring sites that rank for this search and look for a number. Three of the six measured for this page publish none. Two quote in US dollars, a currency no Dubai family transacts in. One publishes an hourly rate that contradicts the price in its own structured data. That is the state of pricing transparency in this market, and it is why the figures below are attributed rather than asserted.

The bands come from competitor pages that published them and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, read in October 2026. They describe the market, not IB Gram's price list. The spread is wide for a reason: the bottom of it buys a confident undergraduate, the middle buys a trained teacher, and the top buys reputation that may or may not change the lesson. Monthly packages seen across the same set run around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Two practical notes for a Nad Al Sheba budget. First, the in-home band sits AED 50 to 150 an hour above the equivalent online band, and that gap is travel, not teaching. Second, exam-year intensity costs more than exam-year rates: Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240-600 at the budget end and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, and the variable driving that is how many sessions a week, not the hourly figure. Ask any tutor for the rate, the session length and whether VAT is included before you book.

Online one-to-one against a tutor driving into Nad Al Sheba

This is the comparison the search is really about, so here it is without the sales layer. A tutor who drives to a Nad Al Sheba villa gives you physical presence, a parent who can see the session happening, and a child who cannot quietly open another tab. Those are real advantages and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. What they cost is the travel premium, a narrower choice of tutor, and a fixed slot that cannot move when a school event lands on it.

Online one-to-one over live video gives you the opposite trade. The tutor is selected from the whole timezone rather than the whole district, which is the difference between a science tutor and a Chemistry HL tutor. The travel premium disappears. A session can move by a day without anybody's driver being rebooked. Screen sharing makes mark-scheme work genuinely better than paper: the examiner's wording sits beside the student's answer, and both are visible to both people at once.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. So this table is not a pitch dressed as a comparison — it is the reason for a decision already taken. Read the last column, which is the part specific to this district: the roads around Nad Al Sheba, Meydan and Mohammed Bin Rashid City at 15:00 are the reason a 16:00 in-home session is routinely a 16:40 in-home session.

The academic-honesty line, written down

  • Allowed: teaching content, explaining criteria, feedback on the student's own draft
  • Allowed: discussing scope and method before the student starts writing
  • Not allowed: drafting, rewriting or editing submitted text to completion
  • Not allowed: supplying a research question, a dataset or a finished section
  • Board materials are referenced and linked, never reproduced or distributed

This section exists because one page ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments. That is an academic-integrity breach, it triggers IB malpractice procedures, and the student carries the consequence, not the seller. Any parent shopping for IB support in Dubai will meet an offer like it, so the boundary is worth having in plain words before you do.

What a tutor may do: teach the content, explain the criteria, discuss a research question's scope and feasibility, suggest a method, point at a weakness in an argument, read a draft the student wrote and return written feedback on it, and model how a different piece of work handles a similar problem. All of that is teaching, and all of it is what the IB expects a supervisor and a tutor to do.

What a tutor may not do: write any part of the submitted text, rewrite a passage into better prose, supply a research question wholesale, produce the data, or edit a draft to completion. The student's declaration on every submitted component says the work is their own. If a tutor's feedback has been incorporated, that is normal and fine — feedback is allowed and expected. Text written by somebody else is not, however it is described. We also do not host, reproduce or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes; those are the board's copyright and are linked rather than copied.

Say the boundary out loud with your child rather than leaving it implied. Students rarely set out to breach academic honesty; they drift into it when a deadline is close and somebody offers to help, and the help arrives as text. A student who has been told once, clearly, what feedback looks like and what substitution looks like will recognise the offer when it comes.

07

Your KHDA report, and what the band on it means

Dubai private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually and publishes a band. Nad Al Sheba parents use those bands to choose schools and then rarely look at what the band is measuring, which is a missed source of information about where tutoring would help.

The useful move is to read the subject-level commentary rather than the headline band. An inspection report that praises attainment but flags progress in a specific phase is telling you something actionable about that phase's teaching. A report strong on the British secondary section and quieter on the DP cohort is telling you where the school's depth sits. That is a better guide to whether your child needs outside subject support than the overall word on the cover.

Context for the cost conversation: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. The emirate's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools — four UK curriculum and three IB — creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. IB Gram holds no KHDA permit, approval or accreditation of any kind, and no tutoring platform should imply that it does: a KHDA Educational Services Permit is issued to training institutes with physical premises.

Is the tutor you are about to hire actually permitted to teach here?

This is the question almost nobody in the Nad Al Sheba market asks, and it has a clean answer. Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states that it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

Two consequences follow. First, anyone who tells you the permit is expensive, optional or unavailable to them is either misinformed or not applying. u.ae states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE will be subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, and Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the amounts, so no figure should be quoted to you. Second, the permit carries a code of conduct. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's conduct rules similarly bar serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school.

For a Dubai family that means one thing in practice: do not arrange paid tutoring with your child's own classroom teacher, however convenient it looks. Ask instead where the tutor is based, what permit or employment basis they hold, and whether lessons are delivered online or in person. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time and is applied for through the MoHRE app, website and e-services system. It is the authoritative place to check, and it takes a minute.

Past papers, used properly, in the weeks that matter

  • One section under the clock beats one full paper untimed
  • Mark against the official scheme, never against memory
  • Categorise every lost mark: content, command term, arithmetic, time
  • Work the dominant category only, for a fixed two weeks
  • Papers come from the school or the board's own platform

A Nad Al Sheba student in DP2 generally has access to more past papers than hours, and uses them in the least productive order: front to back, untimed, marking their own work generously. The marking is where the learning is. A paper sat without being marked against the official scheme has taught the student how it feels to sit a paper, which they already knew.

The sequence that works is narrow and dull. Sit one section under the real clock. Mark it against the official scheme, cell by cell, deciding for each lost mark whether it was content, command term, arithmetic or time. Tally the four categories across three papers. Whichever category dominates is the only thing worth working on for the next fortnight, and the other three get ignored on purpose. Students resist this because it means leaving known weaknesses alone; it works because mark recovery is concentrated, not spread.

Where the papers come from matters legally. Schools hold licensed access, and the boards publish specimen and past material through their own platforms. We reference and link official sources — ibo.org, cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com — and work from the copies your school or the board provides. We do not host, reproduce or hand out board papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides, because they are copyright material and some of it is unreleased.

The other half of the discipline is question selection, which nobody teaches. On papers with a choice, a student who reads all options and picks in ninety seconds consistently outscores one who starts the first question that looks familiar. That is a drillable skill and it takes about four sessions. It is also the part of exam technique that transfers across every subject your child is sitting, which makes it unusually good value for a single hour.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the Diploma

Families moving into Nad Al Sheba from outside the UAE are regularly surprised by this, and it is the most under-written topic in the entire Dubai tutoring market. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and its published requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April.

The organisation rules are specific. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and KHDA states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited due to the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language; Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students; and the school's licensed-curriculum language applies for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies. Schools must also ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects.

There is a timetable consequence a DP parent should know. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and it advises that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. Those minutes come out of a week that already holds six Diploma subjects, TOK and CAS. For the mandatory subjects themselves, KHDA states that the use of any different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is strictly prohibited, so tutoring support for them works within the school's own material rather than around it.

MoE equivalency: what an IB student needs, and what nobody can tell you yet

Equivalency is the step that converts a school-leaving qualification into something a UAE authority recognises, and it decides university applications inside the country. Four of the ten query clusters researched for this project contained no competitor mention of it at all, and one competitor publishes the wrong subject count for the British track. Getting it right is free authority.

For the British track the rules are published and specific. A student must submit proof of one accredited subject at the Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at the Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. One ranking competitor states UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the published rule is five. For the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test.

For the IB there is no figure on this page, and that is deliberate. The source that sets out the British and American tracks states no IB points threshold, so publishing one would be invention. Check the current IB requirement on moe.gov.ae or with your emirate's attestation authority. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee any part of the equivalency or attestation process, and tutoring is not a requirement for it — anybody suggesting otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory procedure.

When no specialist is free, and what we say instead of pretending

  • Core DP subjects at HL and SL: trial usually within a few days
  • Niche subjects and multi-subject single-tutor requests: longer, and sometimes not possible
  • A no with a date beats a generalist presented as a specialist
  • Every match starts with a free trial lesson, and the condition is simply that it is one lesson

Availability is the thing every tutoring page in this market conceals. The pattern in the researched set is a form, a promise of a match within 24 hours, and silence about what happens when the specific subject at the specific level has nobody free. Several route UAE parents to an Indian phone number without saying so. Both are trust failures, and disclosing the limit is cheaper than being caught by it.

Here is the honest shape of coverage for a Nad Al Sheba enquiry. Core DP subjects — Maths AA and AI, the three sciences, English A, Economics, Business Management — are reliably covered at both levels, and a trial session is usually arrangeable within a few days. Less-taken subjects, and specific combinations like a Physics HL tutor who can also take Maths AA HL Paper 3, take longer. Some requests cannot be met at all in a given term, and the right answer then is a date or a no, not a placeholder tutor.

What we do not do is substitute a generalist for a specialist and leave the family to discover it in session three. If the subject-level match is not available, we say so, give an expected timeframe, and you decide. The free trial lesson exists for the same reason: it is the cheapest way for a parent in Nad Al Sheba to test whether the person on the screen actually knows the paper, before any money moves.

Where we tutor

Nad Al Sheba and the neighbourhoods either side of it

Nad Al Sheba is one district in a corridor that runs from Downtown out past Mohammed Bin Rashid City. Each neighbouring community feeds a different school set and therefore asks for different subjects. These are the areas families on this page come from.

Nad Al Sheba

Villa communities either side of Dubai–Al Ain Road, with Repton School Dubai and GEMS Modern Academy inside the district. The sports complex and racecourse side of the area means late-afternoon activity clashes are the main scheduling constraint.

Meydan

Newer low-rise and villa stock around the racecourse and Meydan One. Families here are often in their first or second UAE year, and the most frequent request is a diagnostic session before committing to a weekly slot.

Sobha Hartland

Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai sit inside the community, so the school run is short and the free hour sits earlier in the afternoon than it does elsewhere in this corridor.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

District One and the surrounding villa plots. Long internal roads and a single exit onto Al Khail mean a tutor driving in during school pick-up loses twenty minutes inside the community itself.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

A mixed industrial and residential belt with several schools on its edges. Students here commonly travel further to school than Nad Al Sheba students do, which pushes the realistic session start past 17:00.

Business Bay

High-rise apartments, shorter commutes, and a cohort that skews towards DP students at Downtown and Al Jaddaf schools. Evening sessions after 19:00 are more common here than in the villa districts.

Downtown Dubai

Apartment living with no on-site school, so every family drives out. The practical effect is a narrow window between arriving home and dinner, which suits a 45-minute focused session better than a two-hour block.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Swiss International Scientific School Dubai is the anchor here, running the IB continuum bilingually. Requests from this cluster skew towards language-supported subject help rather than exam technique alone.

DIFC

Few families, almost all in apartments, and almost all with both parents on long working days. Scheduling tends to land at weekends, and online delivery is the only format that survives a 20:00 start.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Nad Al Sheba

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

The schools inside and immediately beside the district. Between them they cover the British secondary route, a full IB continuum and the DP, which is why two neighbours can both be 'doing IB' and sit entirely different papers.

  • Repton School Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Hartland International School
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Kings' School Nad Al Sheba

The central corridor beyond Meydan

Schools a Nad Al Sheba family will also have toured or shortlisted, spread from Al Jaddaf through Al Quoz and out to Dubai Hills. Students from this set make up most of the remaining enquiries on this page.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Safa Community School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis

Schools are named here as context for the neighbourhood's education options; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the course, not the subject

The useful first message names the school, the year, the exact course code or title, the level, and the next assessment date. 'Maths HL at a Nad Al Sheba school, AA, exploration due in February' gets a specialist. 'Needs help with maths' gets a conversation first. The school's current unit matters more than the syllabus front page.

  2. 02

    A diagnostic trial lesson, free

One live session with the tutor we think fits. It is spent finding where the marks are going rather than teaching a topic, usually by working a past-paper section and marking it together. You get a written note afterwards saying what the pattern is and how many sessions it suggests. No payment is involved in this lesson.

  3. 03

Agree the slot and the plan

Pick a weekly time on Gulf Standard Time that survives the Nad Al Sheba school run and whatever activity sits after it. The plan is written against the school's assessment calendar: which weeks are coursework weeks, which are mock weeks, and which topics are deliberately being left alone until later.

  4. 04

    Weekly sessions with written notes

Each session ends with a note naming what was covered, what was set, and which criterion or command term the next session targets. Parents in this corridor often ask for the note rather than a progress percentage, because a percentage invented by a tutoring platform means nothing and a criterion letter means something.

  5. 05

    Reassess at the half-term mark

Six to eight sessions in, the question is whether the mark pattern has moved. If it has not, the diagnosis was wrong or the tutor is not the right fit, and both are our problem to fix. Changing tutor mid-term is normal and costs nothing; carrying on because the slot is booked is how money gets wasted.

  6. 06

Tighten into a paper block before exams

In the term before papers, the weekly subject session usually becomes two or three shorter sessions built entirely around timed sections and official mark schemes. The content work stops. This is also when the written list of topics to leave alone becomes useful, because by then there is no time to cover everything.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Chosen by paper, not by postcode

The tutor is matched to the exact course and level your child sits, drawn from the whole timezone rather than the few specialists who happen to live near Nad Al Sheba. For a single-subject HL request, that difference is usually the whole decision.

Prices on the page, with sources

The AED bands above are attributed to the competitor or rate table that published them and dated to when they were read. Three of six researched competitors publish no price at all. You can check every figure on this page against its source before you speak to anybody.

The coursework boundary in writing

A tutor teaches, explains criteria and gives feedback on work the student wrote. Nothing is drafted or rewritten for submission. The boundary is stated to the student in the first session because the student signs the declaration, and a page in this market sells completed IAs.

No regulator claimed as an endorsement

KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE and the Ministry of Education are explained here because parents need to understand them. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from any of them, nor from the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and claims none.

Availability disclosed before you pay

If the subject at the level you need has nobody free this term, you are told that with a date rather than matched to a generalist. The free trial lesson exists so the judgement about subject depth is yours and is made before money moves.

One timezone, one clock

Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time against your child's own school calendar, including Ramadan timings and the long travel absences normal in this corridor. A session that moves is moved with a message rather than a rerouted driver.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Nad Al Sheba: your questions answered

Is there actually an IB tutor near me in Nad Al Sheba, or is this all online?+

All tuition for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to addresses in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. The practical effect for Nad Al Sheba is that your tutor is chosen for knowing your child's exact course rather than for living nearby. The pool of people within a twenty-minute drive who teach one IB subject at one level is small by arithmetic; the pool across the timezone is not. You also avoid the AED 50 to 150 an hour that the market charges for travel.

Which Nad Al Sheba schools do the students you support attend?+

Students we support in this district attend Repton School Dubai, GEMS Modern Academy, Kings' School Nad Al Sheba, Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai, with others travelling to Swiss International Scientific School Dubai in Al Jaddaf and to schools across Al Quoz and Dubai Hills. Those schools are named as neighbourhood context only; IB Gram has no affiliation or partnership with any of them, and we would not describe a school as a client. What matters for a match is which course your child is enrolled on inside the school, not the school's name.

How much does an IB tutor cost per hour in Dubai right now?+

Market rates read in October 2026 run roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour at the budget online end, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit including travel, AED 200 to 450 or more for an IB or IGCSE specialist, and AED 500 to 650 upwards at the premium end. Those figures come from EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, TutorChase, BartyED and Bestimate's Dubai rate table, not from us. For IB Gram's own rate, ask on the consultation; the trial lesson is free and carries no payment.

What is the difference between IB Maths AA and AI, and does it change the tutor we need?+

Analysis and Approaches is algebraic and proof-oriented; Applications and Interpretation is statistical, modelling-led and assumes a graphic display calculator throughout. At Higher Level both add a Paper 3 worth 20% of the grade, but the two Paper 3s test very different things. So yes, it changes the tutor. A tutor who has marked AA HL Paper 3 investigations is not interchangeable with one who has marked AI HL data problems. Name the course, not just the subject, when you ask for a match.

Where exactly is the line between IA feedback and doing the work?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor may teach the content, explain each criterion and its mark allocation, discuss whether a research question is feasible, suggest a method, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write, rewrite, edit to completion or supply any part of the submitted text, or produce the data. The student signs a declaration that the work is their own, so the boundary protects them rather than us. A page ranking in this market sells completed IAs; that is a malpractice trigger for the student.

Does a tutor coming to a Nad Al Sheba villa need a MoHRE permit, and how do I check?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published. MoHRE's service page is 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', listing no fee and a two-working-day completion time.

My child moved from a British Year 11 into DP1 and is struggling. What is the actual gap?+

Usually three things rather than content. First, command terms: IGCSE rewarded detail, so these students over-write and spend two-mark time on four-mark answers. Second, internal assessment, which they have not met before and which carries 20% of the grade in maths and the sciences. Third, volume: six subjects plus TOK, the Extended Essay and CAS in parallel, where before there were linear exam courses. A first diagnostic session on a past-paper section usually identifies which of the three dominates, and the fix differs completely for each.

What time can a session realistically start after the Nad Al Sheba school run?+

School days in and around the district end between roughly 14:30 and 15:30 depending on school and year group. For families whose school is inside Nad Al Sheba or Sobha Hartland, a 15:30 or 16:00 start works. For those driving back from Al Quoz, Al Jaddaf or Dubai Hills in pick-up traffic, 16:30 is more honest. Online delivery is what makes the earlier slots possible at all: nothing has to travel to you, so the half-hour on either side of the session stays with the child.

How many sessions a week do Nad Al Sheba Diploma families usually start with?+

One weekly session per subject is the normal starting point, and most families begin with a single subject rather than three. The reason is diagnostic: until the mark pattern is identified, more hours mostly means more of the wrong work. In the term before papers the cadence typically changes to two or three shorter sessions a week in one subject, built around timed sections and official mark schemes. Adding a second subject usually makes sense once the first has moved, not before.

Does Theory of Knowledge or the Extended Essay actually affect the final score?+

Yes. The six subjects contribute 42 points at 7 each, and the TOK essay and Extended Essay together contribute up to 3 more through the published matrix, both graded A to E. The TOK essay is 1,600 words on one of six prescribed titles; the Extended Essay is 4,000 words marked against five criteria over 34 marks, with the planning reflections contributing to the total. Students who treat both as administration rather than assessment routinely give away the points that sit between a 38 and a 41.

Why are Arabic and Islamic Education on my child's IB timetable at all?+

KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and its requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must organise separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are strictly prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. Those minutes come out of a week already holding six Diploma subjects, TOK and CAS.

Is it too late to start if papers are a few months away?+

It depends on what is wrong, which is why the trial lesson is diagnostic rather than instructional. If the pattern is command terms, timing or question selection, a short block of marked timed sections moves a grade boundary quickly because the recovery is concentrated. If whole syllabus topics are missing, the honest answer is that a few months buys a partial fix and a written list of what to leave alone. Nobody can promise a grade, and anybody who does is telling you something about themselves.

Should we book one tutor for two Diploma subjects or two tutors?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, because a single tutor across two subjects gives continuity and halves the scheduling. The common workable pairs are Maths AA with Physics, and Chemistry with Biology. Where it fails is at Higher Level in two unrelated subjects, because genuine HL depth in two separate papers is rare, and a tutor who stretches to cover both is a generalist with two labels. We will tell you which case yours is rather than filling the slot.

What happens if the tutor we are matched with is not the right fit?+

You say so and we change the match, at no cost and without a notice period. The most common reason is not competence but pace: a tutor who suits a student needing structure can be wrong for one who needs to be pushed. We also check this proactively at around the six-to-eight session mark by asking whether the mark pattern has moved. If it has not, either the diagnosis was wrong or the fit is wrong, and continuing because the slot is already booked is how a term gets wasted.

Do you provide past papers and mark schemes for my child to work from?+

No, and the reason is worth stating. IB, Cambridge and Pearson materials are copyright, some of it unreleased, so we do not host, reproduce or distribute papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides. Your school holds licensed access, and the boards publish material through their own platforms at ibo.org, cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com. Sessions work from the copies your school or the board provides, and the time goes on marking against the official scheme rather than on sourcing documents.

Can lessons move during Ramadan or while we are travelling?+

Yes to both, and they routinely do in this corridor. Ramadan shifts school hours and family routines, and sessions generally move later or to post-Iftar timings for the month; students sitting papers in the spring usually keep the cadence and change the clock. Travel is the other constant here, with long Eid and summer absences normal. Because delivery is over live video, a session follows the student to wherever they are rather than pausing until the family is back in Nad Al Sheba.

Start with the paper, not the postcode

If you came here searching for an IB tutor near me in Nad Al Sheba, the useful next step is not a map. Send the school, the year, the exact course and level, and the date of the next assessment. That tells us whether a specialist in that paper is free, and if one is not, you get a date or a no rather than a generalist. The first session is a free trial and it is spent diagnosing where marks are actually going, with a written note afterwards. Market AED rates are on this page with their sources so you can compare before you speak to anyone, including us.
