IB Tutor near me in Dubai Creek Harbour

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Dubai Creek Harbour usually happens in a family's first or second year in Dubai, when the education budget is already carrying more lines than anyone expected. School fees, school transport, uniform and devices come first, and tutoring arrives on top. This page sets out the whole budget, explains why quotes to this district sit high, and shows how to judge cost per outcome rather than cost per hour. Lessons are one-to-one and online.

  • The whole education budget set out, not just the tutoring line
  • Why a creek crossing at 4pm adds to every in-home quote
  • Cost judged per outcome, with a six-week test you can apply
  • Free trial lesson before any block is agreed

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Creek Harbour

Count the whole education budget before you add a line to it

Most families searching for a tutor from this district are relatively new to Dubai, and tutoring is arriving on top of a budget that already surprised them. School fees are the headline, but they are not the whole of it: school transport is a separate charge and a substantial one when a child commutes out of a district with little school provision, and uniform, devices, trips and activity fees follow. Tutoring then appears as an extra line in a budget nobody has yet seen a full year of.

That is why this page starts with the whole figure rather than the hourly rate. A tutoring decision made against a complete picture is a different decision from one made in isolation, and in particular it exposes a question most families never ask: whether the school already provides, inside fees already paid, some of what the tutor is being hired to do. For an IB family that is often true of subject clinics and revision sessions, and it is the cheapest thing to check first.

The tutoring market itself is worth stating plainly, since most competitor pages will not. Qualified subject tutors working online sit at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, with budget online tutors advertised from about AED 33 to 65 and in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 500 because travel sits inside the figure. Monthly packages seen in the market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Those are other providers' published figures, read in October 2026, and they are market context rather than IB Gram's price list.

A near-me search from this district carries a particular premium. Dubai Creek Harbour is reached by a limited number of access roads with the Ras Al Khor crossings carrying the load, and a tutor driving in at four in the afternoon loses a substantial part of their working evening to the journey. They price for that, reasonably, and the result is that quotes here sit towards the upper half of the in-home band while buying nothing academic. The drive does not make anyone better at Higher Level Chemistry.

IB Gram delivers Diploma tuition to Dubai Creek Harbour as one-to-one lessons over live video on Gulf Standard Time, matched to the subject and level rather than the postcode, with no travel component inside the price. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. The sections below set out the full budget, the premium, and how to judge whether a tutoring line is earning its place in it.

Nothing here promises a grade. It gives a family in their first years in Dubai the figures and the test, which is more useful than a promise and considerably rarer in this market.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What a family should spend depends on the programme stage rather than only on the subject, and in a first year in Dubai the stages are easy to confuse. These three contexts carry different cost profiles.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries an internal assessment and the deadlines cluster, so the expensive weeks and the busy weeks are the same weeks. This is the stage where amounts are largest and where allocating a fixed budget well matters considerably more than negotiating an hourly rate.

Diploma provision is not inside Dubai Creek Harbour, so students here travel to it, which means school transport is part of the education budget rather than an afterthought. Families comparing schools should compare bus fees and route lengths alongside tuition fees, because both are recurring and neither appears in a prospectus headline.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Criterion-assessed rather than examined, with the Personal Project in the final year. This is the stage where tutoring is cheapest to make count and where most families spend nothing, then pay for it in DP1. A short block securing algebraic fluency or writing structure in Year 9 costs a fraction of what the same gap costs to address under examination pressure two years later.

Families newly arrived in Dubai often meet criterion assessment for the first time here, and the initial instinct is to buy weekly support. The cheaper and better first purchase is one session spent reading the criterion descriptors with the student, because most of the early marks lost are lost to not knowing what was being asked.

PYPAges 3-11 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led and transdisciplinary, ending in the exhibition. The honest cost advice is to spend little and narrowly: a defined block on reading fluency or number facts, then stop. Weekly one-to-one tuition across a primary year is the least efficient purchase available in this market and one of the most frequently sold to new arrivals.

New districts attract young families and local tutoring supply follows, usually sold as ongoing support. We will tell a primary parent that a four-session block is enough when it is, which costs us the recurring revenue and is the correct advice for a household still finding the shape of its annual costs.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A Diploma budget is allocated subject by subject, so the question is which subject earns the line. These are the courses we cover for this district, each noted for where marks are genuinely lost, because that determines whether a specialist rate is justified.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Cheap to fix early and expensive to leave. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which exposes algebraic fluency, and Higher Level adds a third paper needing its own sessions rather than more of the same practice.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics and modelling led, with calculator competence examinable. Losses concentrate in explaining output the student can produce, which is a technique problem and among the faster things to correct.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Two papers plus an independent investigation worth a fifth of the grade. Equilibrium reasoning, organic mechanism detail and significant figures in the data-based section are the reliable losses at both levels.

Physics

HL and SL

Weak algebra costs Physics marks unrelated to physics, so one maths block can reasonably be charged against two grades. Uncertainty treatment is the least-taught and most-penalised area.

Biology

HL and SL

Terminology precision outweighs calculation. A fluent but imprecise writer plateaus, and command-term discipline moves the grade faster and cheaper than more content coverage.

Economics

HL and SL

The internal assessment commentaries land alongside other subjects' deadlines in DP1, so the cost here is often scheduling rather than teaching. Evaluation depth separates Higher Level marks.

Business Management

HL and SL

Frameworks are easy and evaluation is not. A student applying a tool without weighing it sits mid-band indefinitely, which is a technique loss and therefore the cheapest category to fix.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Carries the Individual Oral and the Higher Level essay. Describing texts rather than analysing construction is the standard loss, and a short targeted block beats a year of weekly sessions.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Few tutors teach it, so it carries a scarcity cost rather than a difficulty cost. Support is structural: reading the prescribed title, building an argument, locating where marks are awarded.

Extended Essay

Core

Four thousand words of independent research. One early session narrowing the question is the best value in the whole programme, because a poor question cannot be rescued later at any price.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one and online, described by what a block costs over a period rather than by the hour. For a household still learning the shape of its annual costs, the block total and the end date are the numbers that matter.

Weekly subject tuition

One subject, one tutor, one slot, four to five sessions a month. The lowest-cost format that reliably moves a Diploma grade, because it leaves room for practice between sessions and lets the tutor check whether it happened. Over two terms it costs less than most families fear in September and more than they budget for in any single month, which is why the block total matters.

  • Four to five sessions a month in one named subject at one level
  • Named practice after each session, marked before the next
  • Half-term review against whether the grade is actually moving
  • Slot set from the student's real arrival home, bus route included

Internal assessment and core block

Three to five sessions around an internal assessment, the Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge. The highest return per dirham in the Diploma, because a question narrowed properly in one session prevents a term of work on something unanswerable. The student chooses the question, does the work and writes the text; we explain criteria and give written feedback on their own drafts.

  • Three to five sessions, fixed from the outset
  • Criteria explained in the language the examiner uses
  • Written feedback on the student's own draft; never rewriting
  • Timed to the school's internal deadline rather than ours

Pre-session intensive

Two or three sessions a week for six to ten weeks before the examination session. The highest monthly figure here and the shortest commitment, which is what makes it defensible rather than exploitative. Content order comes from the marked mock and some topics are abandoned deliberately, because the window is short rather than because ambition is lacking.

  • Eight to twelve sessions a month for an agreed number of weeks
  • First session spent marking the mock question by question
  • Whole papers under timed conditions in the subject's format
  • Fixed end date in writing, with no automatic renewal

01

The whole education budget a new arrival is carrying

A tutoring quote means little in isolation, and in a first or second year in Dubai it is particularly easy to misjudge, because the other lines are still unfamiliar. The table below sets out the full picture for a household in this district, with the tutoring bands from the market alongside the costs that come first. Figures for school-set charges are deliberately described rather than invented, because they vary enormously by school and the school publishes its own.

Two lines deserve attention because new arrivals consistently underestimate them. The first is school transport. In a district with little provision of its own, nearly every child commutes out, and a bus place is a separate annual charge that rises with route length. A family choosing a school further inland is choosing a higher transport bill as well as a longer journey, and both are recurring for as long as the child is there.

The second is the collection of smaller charges that arrive across a year: uniform, devices, trips, activity fees, examination-related costs. Individually modest and collectively material, and they land unevenly through the year, which is what makes a monthly tutoring commitment feel affordable in September and uncomfortable in February. A household that has seen a full year of these can budget confidently; one in its first year cannot, and should therefore prefer bounded blocks to open-ended arrangements.

The useful conclusion is not that tutoring is unaffordable. It is that the tutoring line should be sized against a complete picture and committed in defined blocks with end dates, rather than as an indefinite monthly payment entered into before the rest of the year is known. That is a cheaper pattern and also a better one, because a block with a purpose and a deadline gets reviewed.

Why quotes to this district sit high, and what the crossing costs

A near-me search from Dubai Creek Harbour returns quotes towards the upper half of the Dubai in-home band, and the reason is worth understanding rather than resenting. The district is reached by a limited number of access roads, with the Ras Al Khor crossings carrying the traffic, and a tutor coming from the city's teaching concentrations at four in the afternoon spends a large part of their working evening in the car.

A tutor's evening between four and eight is four hours. In a tower district close to the main teaching concentrations they might fit three sessions into it. Coming here, with a crossing at each end, they fit two. The rate per session rises to compensate, which is arithmetic rather than opportunism, and it is the same arithmetic that makes specialists in short supply decline the journey entirely when nearer work exists.

That second effect is the expensive one and it never appears in a quote. The narrower the pool willing to travel, the more likely it is that the in-home option delivers a generalist at a specialist price. A household here can pay the top of the band and get someone whose actual specialism is adjacent to what their child needs, because the filter that produced the shortlist was willingness to drive rather than having taught the subject.

Online delivery removes both effects at once: no crossing, and a shortlist drawn from every available specialist rather than the drivable subset. The honest counterpoint is presence, which matters for younger students and for a teenager who will not work unless somebody is in the room. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, so for that household a local arrangement is the right answer and the bands here are what to judge it against.

03

Cost per outcome, not cost per hour

Hourly rates are the wrong unit for judging value, because the same hour produces entirely different results depending on what happens inside it. A more useful question is what a given purchase is supposed to change, and what it costs to change that one thing. Asked that way, the cheapest items in this market are not the low hourly rates but the small, well-timed interventions nobody advertises.

The clearest example is an internal assessment or Extended Essay question review. One or two sessions, a modest total at any rate, and it determines a large share of a component carrying a fifth of a subject grade, because a question that cannot be answered with the available resources cannot be rescued later by any amount of teaching. Nothing else in the Diploma offers that ratio, and almost nobody sells it as a product.

Next is a foundation block in DP1 on a subject chosen above the student's prior attainment. Six to ten sessions, bought while the gap is small, against weekly support across two years bought once the gap has widened. Then paper technique after a DP2 mock, where losses are procedural and marked practice moves them in weeks. The worst ratio in the market is open-ended revision of a whole course with no component named, which consumes the most and demonstrates the least.

The table sets the comparison out. Use it as a way of interrogating any proposal: what is this meant to change, how will we know, and how much is it. A tutor who can answer all three is selling an outcome; one who can only answer the third is selling hours, which is what most of this market sells and what parents in their first Dubai year are least equipped to evaluate.

What you are already paying for, and should use first

  • Ask what subject clinics or revision sessions the school runs, and when
  • Ask the Diploma coordinator for the internal assessment deadline calendar
  • Ask what the school's own platform provides by way of practice material
  • Ask what a subject teacher may read and comment on, within school rules
  • Then buy the diagnosis and individual marked practice that the school cannot give
  • Expect the tutoring purchase to shrink once the free provision is mapped

This section will save some households more than any negotiation would. A substantial amount of academic support is already inside the fees a family in this district pays, and new arrivals are the least likely to know it exists because nobody sends a list. It is delivered by the people who teach the course, administer the entries and write the predicted grades, which is a position no external tutor occupies.

Typical provision includes subject clinics at lunchtime or after school, departmental revision sessions nearer an examination session, access to practice material through the school's platform, a Diploma coordinator who holds the internal deadlines, and subject teachers who will read a draft internal assessment within the school's own rules. In a Diploma context the coordinator is particularly valuable, because the deadlines that actually constrain a student are internal and the coordinator sets them.

What school provision cannot do is diagnose one student against a mark scheme in an unhurried hour, set and mark individual practice weekly, or move to a time that suits one household's bus timetable. Those are the things worth buying. A household that uses the school provision first and buys the diagnosis afterwards typically spends a third of what it was about to, and gets a better result because the two are doing different jobs.

The practical step is a single email to the head of year or the coordinator asking what support is available and when. For a family in its first year in Dubai that email is the highest-value five minutes in this entire page, and it frequently changes the size of the tutoring purchase before any quote has been compared.

05

Where a first-year-in-Dubai family loses money

  • Buying before mapping what the school already provides free
  • Duration bought before any diagnosis exists
  • Specialist rates paid for homework supervision
  • The crossing premium paid where presence changes nothing
  • Several subjects funded for one underlying weakness
  • Blocks renewing by default rather than ending on an agreed date

The waste patterns here are slightly different from those of a settled household, because they come from not yet knowing the system rather than from inattention. Naming them is the point of a cost-led page, and all six are avoidable without spending less per hour.

The first is buying before mapping the free provision, which produces a paid tutor re-covering what the department covers on a Wednesday. The second is duration bought before diagnosis: a weekly arrangement entered into in September, before the household has seen a full year of its own costs or a single marked paper. The third is paying a specialist rate for homework supervision, which is a real service and not a specialist one.

The fourth is specific to this district: paying the crossing premium for subjects where presence changes nothing, which at Diploma level is nearly all of them. The fifth is funding several subjects when one weakness underlies them, usually algebra under maths and two sciences or writing structure under two essay subjects. The sixth is the block that renews because stopping feels risky, long after its purpose was met.

What all six share is that none feels like waste while it is happening, because attendance is easy to observe and diagnosis is not. The remedy is mechanical rather than clever: write down at the start what the block is for, set a date to check it, and be willing to end it when the check comes back empty. In a first Dubai year that discipline is harder to apply and more valuable, because nothing else in the budget is yet predictable.

06

Counted backwards from the May session: when the money works

UAE IB schools sit the May examination session, and spending decisions make far more sense read backwards from it than forwards from today. For a family new to the system, the surprise is that the deadlines which actually constrain a Diploma student are set by the school rather than by the IB, so an internal assessment can fall due months before anything the IB publishes.

Before a family new to Dubai builds a budget on the table above, two limits on what it can tell you. The dates that matter are not ours to publish and are not published here: the IB holds the examination and results dates, and your child's Diploma coordinator holds the school's internal versions, which are what actually govern internal assessments, Extended Essay drafts and Theory of Knowledge submissions. In a first year in the city the temptation is to lift a timetable from whichever tutoring website loads first, this one included, rather than approach a coordinator you have not yet met. Approach them anyway, inside the first term, and from the moment an internal deadline is announced treat it as firm.

Read for spending, the calendar gives a simple sequence. Spend small and early on anything irreversible. Spend moderately and steadily through DP1 on a diagnosed weakness. Spend heavily and briefly in the final window if the marked mock says you must, then stop. The pattern that fails is the inverse, and it is the one a new arrival is most likely to fall into: nothing in DP1 while the family settles, then a large open-ended commitment in DP2 when there is least time for it to work.

One further point worth asking the coordinator about early. Internal assessment deadlines cluster across subjects and sit near the Extended Essay deadline, so the weeks when a subject most needs attention are the weeks the student has least to give. Knowing where those collisions fall lets a household move a block earlier rather than bidding for evenings already committed, which is a saving that costs nothing to arrange.

KHDA, the fee freeze and judging whether the spend is working

Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Annual inspection runs on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, published school by school, and for a family new to Dubai those reports are the most useful free document available. The departmental commentary matters more than the band.

The cost context this year is unusually favourable. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's private sector served 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places.

With the largest line flat, a tutoring figure is more visible in a household budget than usual, which makes this a good year to apply a test rather than a feeling. At six weeks you should be able to see three things: a written statement of what was costing marks, marked practice showing that specific thing improving, and a mark or grade trend in the subject. If all three are absent, the spend is not working however agreeable the sessions are, and the test requires no subject knowledge at all.

On credentials, plainly: IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved or IB accredited, and does not claim to be. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. Any service describing its individual tutors with that phrase is referring to something else or saying something untrue, which for a new arrival comparing quotes is a quick and useful filter.

08

What is never for sale, at any price

A cost-led page has to name the point at which the cheapest-looking option is the most expensive. At least one operator ranking for UAE IB queries sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price. To a family under deadline pressure in an unfamiliar system that can look like a solution with a known cost, which is precisely why it is dangerous. Submitting work that is not the student's own is academic misconduct under IB rules, the student bears the consequence, which can be the loss of the Diploma, and the seller bears none of it.

What is legitimately for sale is substantial and represents the best value in this page's ordering. A tutor may explain the assessment criteria in the language the examiner uses, question a research question until it is answerable with the resources available, warn that a method will generate too little data, teach the underlying content, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written.

What is not available from us at any rate is choosing the question, supplying the method or the data, writing any part of the text, or editing a draft into its final form, nor handing over a worked example close enough to the student's own task that copying becomes the obvious next step. We state this to the student in the first session rather than in small print, because a sixteen-year-old new to a system and under deadline pressure deserves the boundary before they are standing on it.

We also do not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, and we do not host them for download. We reference them and link to the official source, which costs nothing, is the lawful position and is more useful anyway, because the official version is the current one while a stale file circulating in a parents' group is a reliable route to revising withdrawn content.

09

Getting started from Dubai Creek Harbour

Begin with two emails and one figure. Email the school to ask what academic support is already provided and when, and email the Diploma coordinator for the internal assessment deadline calendar. Then decide what you are willing to spend monthly and for how long. Those three pieces of information change the recommendation more than any detail about the subject does.

Then send the subject, the level, the latest grade labelled as mock or classwork, the teacher's last written comment quoted rather than summarised, and the time your child is actually home, including the bus route, because that sets which slots are real. A photograph of one marked paper is worth more than the grade, since it shows what is leaking marks rather than how much.

We propose a tutor and run a free trial lesson, which is a diagnosis rather than a sales call. Afterwards, ask for a written statement of what is costing marks and what the block is for, with a number of sessions and an end date attached. If that statement is general, do not book at any rate, because without it there is nothing to check at six weeks and no way to distinguish a working arrangement from a comfortable one.

And the honest part. Availability is finite and some areas are thin everywhere: Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay supervision, Higher Level mathematics with Paper 3 experience, and second languages beyond the common ones. The early-evening Gulf Standard Time slots a commuting district needs also fill early. When what you want is unavailable we say so and offer another hour, a weekend morning, or a tutor based outside the UAE working to Gulf Standard Time. We will also say when the school's own provision is enough.

Where we tutor

Dubai Creek Harbour and the districts its costs are set by

Because the district has little school provision of its own, these notes describe where its families travel and what each journey does to a quote or a transport bill.

Dubai Creek Harbour

Apartment towers on the creek with limited local school provision, so school transport is a standing cost for nearly every household and in-home tutoring quotes carry a crossing premium.

Al Jaddaf

The nearest international provision, across the creek. The shortest bus routes and the lowest transport costs available to families here, which is worth weighing against school fees.

Dubai Festival City

Established provision a short run north and a frequent destination, with correspondingly moderate transport charges and a tutor journey that is manageable off-peak.

Ras Al Khor and Nad Al Hamar

The inland route nearly every journey uses, and the reason an in-home tutor's evening here costs them more than one in a tower district closer to town.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Established IB provision inland with longer routes, which raises transport charges and pushes in-home quotes towards the top of the band.

Al Quoz

The corridor's tuition centres, where group classes are the cheapest format reachable from here, offset by a return journey in the best hour of the evening.

Business Bay and Downtown

A moderate run along Al Khail Road with several schools, and the comparison that shows how much of an in-home quote is simply access.

Mirdif and the eastern suburbs

Reachable inland with mixed provision, chosen by some families for particular schools and carrying the longest transport charges in this set.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Creek Harbour

The creek side and Festival City

The nearest provision to Dubai Creek Harbour, which matters for a cost-led decision because the shortest routes carry the lowest transport charges and leave an evening most intact. Both are recurring costs that no prospectus headline mentions.

  • Universal American School

Inland and western destinations

The schools Creek Harbour families travel further for, which carry higher transport charges and longer routes. Worth pricing as part of the whole education budget rather than treating the fee as the decision.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Map the free provision first

One email to the head of year and one to the Diploma coordinator. Subject clinics, revision sessions, platform material and the internal deadline calendar are already inside your fees, and knowing what exists usually shrinks the tutoring purchase before any quote is compared.

  2. 02

Name the monthly figure and the period

Say what you are willing to spend and for how long. In a first Dubai year, when the rest of the budget is still unfamiliar, that constraint is what keeps a recommendation proportionate rather than aspirational.

  3. 03

    Fund the irreversible things first

Internal assessment and Extended Essay question reviews are one or two sessions and cannot be bought back later at any price. We suggest those before weekly tuition even though weekly tuition is the larger sale.

  4. 04

    Send the real arrival time

Including the bus route, because in this district the commute decides which slots exist. A slot set to a timetable rather than to reality is renegotiated twice and then abandoned, and the household blames the tutoring.

Free trial, then ask for it in writing

Ask for a written statement of what is costing marks, what the block is for, how many sessions it is and when it ends. A general answer is a reason not to book at any price point, however pleasant the lesson felt.

Check the three signals at six weeks

A written diagnosis, marked practice showing that specific thing improving, and a mark trend. If all three are missing the spend is not working, and the test applies at every price point in this market including ours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The whole budget, not just our line

School fees, transport, uniform, trips and tutoring set out together, because a family in its first Dubai year cannot judge an hourly rate against a budget it has not yet seen a full year of. Nobody else in this market shows the other lines.

We tell you to use the school first

Clinics, revision sessions and the coordinator's deadline calendar are inside fees you already pay, delivered by the people who administer the entries. Duplicating that is the commonest waste for a new arrival, and we would rather lose the booking.

Cost per outcome, not per hour

We say what each purchase is meant to change and how big it needs to be, from a one-session question review to a bounded intensive block. An hourly rate tells you nothing about what an hour will produce.

The crossing premium named

Quotes to this district sit high because of the access roads and the Ras Al Khor crossings, not because of better teaching. We say so, and online delivery removes the component entirely.

A value test you can apply yourself

A written diagnosis, marked practice on that specific thing, and a mark trend, all visible at six weeks. It needs no subject knowledge and it works at any price point, including on us.

No borrowed credentials

We explain what KHDA does and link to its own material. We do not describe IB Gram or any tutor as KHDA approved, ADEK approved or IB accredited, because none of it is true of us and the phrase is a reliable signal to walk away.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Creek Harbour: your questions answered

What should we budget for education in total, not just tutoring?+

More lines than a prospectus implies. School fees are termly and published per school by KHDA. School transport is a separate charge and substantial from a district with little provision of its own, rising with route length. Uniform, devices and books are front-loaded in a first year, and trips and activity fees land unevenly through it. Tutoring then sits on top: roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month for one weekly subject at mid-tier online market rates, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist support in an examination year.

Why are tutor quotes to Dubai Creek Harbour higher than elsewhere?+

Access. The district is reached by a limited number of roads with the Ras Al Khor crossings carrying the load, so a tutor driving in at four in the afternoon loses a large part of their working evening. Where they might fit three sessions into an evening closer to town, they fit two here, and the rate rises to compensate. Market in-home rates in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, and quotes to this district cluster in the upper half of that range.

What does the extra money buy on a home visit here?+

A journey, a person in the room, and not having to set up a video call. For a younger child the presence can matter. What it does not buy is subject knowledge, because crossing the creek does not improve anyone's grasp of Higher Level Chemistry. It also narrows the shortlist to tutors willing to make a long evening journey, so a household here can pay the top of the band and still get a generalist whose actual specialism is adjacent to what their child needs.

Does our school already provide support we are paying for?+

Very probably, and new arrivals are least likely to know. Typical provision includes lunchtime or after-school subject clinics, departmental revision sessions nearer an examination session, practice material on the school's platform, and a Diploma coordinator who holds the internal assessment deadlines. One email to the head of year asking what exists and when is the highest-value five minutes on this page, and it frequently shrinks the tutoring purchase before any quote has been compared.

How should I compare quotes that are structured differently?+

Convert everything to a cost per teaching hour. A monthly in-home package of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits is eight contact hours; an online package advertised around AED 799 is eight sessions, which is eight hours only if a session is sixty minutes, so ask. Then ask what each includes beyond contact time: marked practice between sessions, written feedback, replacement if the match fails. And set aside any quote that will not say where the tutor is based.

Which purchase gives the most for the least in the Diploma?+

An internal assessment or Extended Essay question review, at one or two sessions. It determines a large share of a component carrying a fifth of a subject grade, because a question that cannot be answered with the available resources cannot be rescued later by any amount of teaching. Next is a DP1 foundation block of six to ten sessions on a subject chosen above the student's prior attainment, bought while the gap is small. The worst ratio is open-ended revision with no component named.

How do I tell whether the money is working?+

Three signals at six weeks. A written statement from the tutor of what was costing marks. Marked practice in that specific area showing movement. And a mark or grade trend in the subject. If all three are present the spend is working even if the grade has not moved yet; if all three are absent it is not, however pleasant the sessions are. The test needs no subject knowledge from you and it applies identically at AED 60 an hour and at AED 450.

We have just arrived in Dubai. Should we start tutoring immediately?+

Usually not in the first term. A newly arrived student needs to settle, and you need a marked paper and a teacher's comment before anyone can diagnose anything. The exceptions are time-critical: an internal assessment question being chosen now, or a Higher Level subject the student is visibly unable to access. Otherwise the first term is better spent mapping what the school provides and letting evidence accumulate, which costs nothing and makes the eventual purchase smaller and better aimed.

Are school fees going up, and how should that shape our planning?+

KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. With the largest education line flat, a tutoring figure is more visible in the household budget than usual. Practically, that makes this a good year to insist on a written purpose and a six-week check rather than absorbing an undifferentiated monthly payment into a general increase.

Is a group class in Al Quoz worth the journey from here?+

Sometimes, for a named topic shared by several students, and it is the cheapest format in the market. The complication from this district is that the journey reappears: a return trip in the best hour of the evening, which is a real cost even though it is not on the invoice. It also works poorly for internal assessment feedback or anything personal, because an individual habit will not be noticed in a room of six. The test is whether you can name the gap.

Can we pause sessions to manage cash flow through the year?+

Yes, and online delivery makes pausing cheap rather than disruptive, because no journey has to be renegotiated at either end. A holiday pause costs nothing but a held slot, and during Ramadan sessions commonly move to a post-Iftar time. The exception worth naming is the eight to ten weeks before the examination session, where pausing costs more than it saves. Agree any pause in advance so the slot is kept rather than released to another family.

Does a tutor's permit affect what we should be charged?+

It should not, because it costs them nothing. MoHRE issues a private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Applications run through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published, so disregard any figure quoted.

Which Diploma subjects carry a scarcity premium?+

Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay supervision are thin everywhere, because almost nobody teaches them as a standalone subject, so they are worth booking earlier than feels necessary. Higher Level mathematics including Paper 3 is thinner than Standard Level, and second languages beyond the commonly taught ones are genuinely scarce. Mathematics at Standard Level, the main sciences, English A and Economics are comparatively well covered. We tell you which category applies before you book rather than after.

What if we start late in DP2 after a disappointing mock?+

It can still work with a changed plan. With eight to twelve weeks of usable time the first session should mark the mock question by question, and the plan that follows should abandon some topics deliberately rather than attempting everything. Expect a high monthly figure for a short bounded block rather than a modest figure spread thin. What you should not buy then is an open-ended arrangement, because the window closes before an open-ended plan can work, and nobody can promise a grade inside it.

Would a cheaper tutor ever be the right choice for us?+

Yes, when the problem does not need a specialist. A student who has missed two weeks to illness and needs one topic re-taught is well served by a competent budget tutor advertised from around AED 33 to 65 an hour, and paying AED 400 for that is a waste. Specialist rates are justified for paper technique, internal assessment feedback and mark-scheme judgement in an examination year. Matching the rung to the problem rather than to anxiety is the most effective cost control a family has.

Which six details let you propose something proportionate for a new arrival?+

Six things. The monthly figure you are comfortable with and for how long. What support the school already provides and when. The subject and whether it is Higher or Standard Level. The latest grade, labelled as mock or classwork. The teacher's last written comment, quoted rather than paraphrased. And the time your child is actually home, bus route included, because that decides which slots are real. A photograph of one marked paper beats most of the list.

Map the free provision, then size the paid line

A tutoring decision made in a family's first Dubai year is usually made against an incomplete budget and without knowing what the school already gives. Fix both before comparing quotes. Email the school for its own support provision and the coordinator for the internal deadlines, decide the monthly figure you are comfortable with, and send us the subject, the level, the latest grade and the time your child is really home. We will propose a tutor, run the first session at no cost, and tell you if the school's provision is enough.
