IGCSE Home Tutor in Hor Al Anz

An IGCSE home tutor in Hor Al Anz is usually wanted for one or two specific subjects rather than for school in general, so this page is organised by subject: the syllabus code, the papers your child sits, and where the marks actually go in each. It also covers what tuition costs in this part of Deira and what a transfer from CBSE needs. IB Gram teaches one-to-one, online, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Cambridge and Pearson codes named subject by subject, with paper structures
  • CBSE and national-curriculum transfers audited before any teaching starts
  • Deira tuition-market rates published with the source beside each figure
  • No home visits in the UAE; that service runs only in India

IB & IGCSE in Hor Al Anz

IGCSE is nine or ten separate examinations, and families rarely need help with all of them

The useful thing to know about IGCSE is that it is not one qualification. It is a set of separate examinations, each with its own syllabus code, its own paper structure, its own calculator rules and its own way of losing marks. A parent in Hor Al Anz asking for an IGCSE tutor almost always needs one or two of them rather than all nine, and the quickest way to waste money in this market is to buy general support for a specific problem.

So this page is built by subject. For each one it names the Cambridge and Pearson codes, says what papers the student sits, and describes where the marks actually drain away. Maths loses marks to notation and rounding instructions. Physics loses them to algebra. Chemistry loses them to balanced equations and method selection. Biology loses them to imprecise terminology and to long answers containing fewer distinct points than the mark allocation required. These are different problems with different repair times.

Hor Al Anz sits in Deira, inland from Al Mamzar and next to Abu Hail, Al Muteena and Al Qusais, with the Green Line of the Metro running through the area. It is a dense, mid-rise, mid-income residential district, and the education market around it is unlike the one in New Dubai. Tuition centres are plentiful and cheap, the private home-tuition trade is active at the budget end, and a significant proportion of students are either in Indian-curriculum schools or have moved into a British-curriculum school from one.

That last point generates a specific kind of enquiry: a student who was comfortable in CBSE arithmetic and is now losing marks on worded, context-heavy IGCSE questions, or who has strong content knowledge and no practice at the structured long answers the mark scheme wants. That is not a weak student. It is a mismatch between two assessment cultures, and it is closed in weeks rather than years once somebody names it properly.

There is a budget question underneath most enquiries from this district, and it deserves a direct answer rather than a brochure. Tuition here is available at every price point, from group classes at a centre to informal home tuition to specialist one-to-one work, and the published Dubai bands span roughly AED 45 to 500 an hour depending on which of those you buy. A fixed budget spread across three subjects buys three arrangements that diagnose nothing. The same money spent on one subject, chosen from marked evidence rather than from a sense of which subject feels hardest, usually produces a better set of grades, because the weakest subject is frequently weak for a reason it shares with another.

On delivery: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India. We teach one-to-one, online, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time. In this part of Dubai the honest argument for that is partly the tutor pool, which stops being limited to those who will travel to Abu Hail on a weekday evening, and partly reliability, because sessions that depend on nobody's journey do not disappear in a bad week.

Three kinds of request arrive from this part of Deira, and they need different things even when the subject is the same.

The examined IGCSE course

Two years ending in the June or November series. Work splits between content, calculation method and answer technique, and the split should follow a marked script. The single most useful fact to establish first is the syllabus code on the entry, because it decides which past papers are worth the student's time.

Schools used by Hor Al Anz families include both Cambridge and Pearson centres, sometimes with different boards for different subjects in the same year group. Ask the examinations officer for the code and tier per subject; a student practising on the wrong board's papers is doing real work that the examination will not reward.

TransferAges 13-16 · Years 9-11

Moving into IGCSE from another system

Students arriving from CBSE, ICSE or a national curriculum, which is common in this district. The first session is an audit against the specification rather than teaching, because transfers are usually uneven: strong on procedure, less practised at the structured, context-led answers the mark scheme rewards.

The typical finding is that the content gap is small and the technique gap is real. Worded multi-step questions, the expectation that method is shown even when the answer is wrong, and long answers scored by distinct points are all learnable in a term. Naming them turns a frightening change into a short list.

Years 7-9Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Before the IGCSE course starts

The cheapest point to intervene and the least glamorous. Fractions, negative indices, algebraic manipulation, proportional reasoning and written structure are what the IGCSE course will assume without re-teaching, and they are also what determines the tier a department offers in Year 10.

In an area with this much mid-phase arrival, Year 8 and 9 placement often reflects unfamiliarity rather than ability. If the family intends separate sciences and a higher maths tier, the conversation with the school belongs in Year 9, while sets are still fluid and nothing has been entered.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each subject below names the codes most used in Dubai schools and says where the marks actually go. Use it to decide which one or two subjects are worth paying for.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Cambridge sits one paper without a calculator, so exact form and notation matter; Pearson allows a calculator throughout, so rounding and interpretation matter more. Rounding instructions are the cheapest marks in either.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Rearranging formulae, standard form, unit prefixes and gradients read from a drawn line. Students who write only answers forfeit method marks they had already earned.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Method selection in calculations, balanced equations, state symbols and ionic charges. Notation here is marked as right or wrong rather than as presentation.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Terminology precision and point-counting on long answers. A six-mark question needs six distinct points, not a thorough paragraph containing three.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

A different qualification from First Language English with different papers. Confirm which appears on the entry, because preparation diverges sharply between them.

English First Language (0500 / 0990)

Single tier

Directed writing and reading responses. Marks are lost to register and to answering a different question from the one asked rather than to weak writing.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single tier

Diagram accuracy and precise definitions. The data-response paper rewards brevity, and able writers often over-explain and run short of time.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

Single tier

Break-even, ratio and cash-flow questions are examined arithmetic, and a numerate student can lift this grade quickly by treating them as free marks.

Accounting (Cambridge 0452)

Single tier

Format discipline carries the marks: the layout of a statement is assessed, not just the figures in it. Students lose marks for presentation that is actually content.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Pseudocode conventions, trace tables and the theory paper. Confident programmers still lose marks on the written conventions the scheme expects.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Early calculus and trigonometric identities alongside the main grade. Valuable once the main grade is secure, and a liability while it is not.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award

All three disciplines for two grades, with less content and identical technique demands. Revision has to be planned across disciplines rather than within one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of IGCSE support work in this district, all delivered one-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

One subject, weekly

The arrangement most families here actually need. A single subject, the same tutor each week, sequenced against the school's teaching order, with work set and marked between sessions. Buying one subject properly and leaving the others alone is usually a better use of a fixed budget than spreading thinly across three.

  • Matched to the exact syllabus code and tier
  • Sequenced against the department's scheme of work
  • Work set between sessions, marked before the next one
  • A written note after each session so progress is visible

Transfer audit and catch-up

For students arriving from CBSE, ICSE or a national curriculum. One session establishes what was covered and to what depth, against the specification rather than a textbook, and the output is a short list of real gaps plus a named technique problem. Teaching starts after that, not before.

  • Audit against the specification before any teaching
  • Separates genuine content gaps from answer-technique gaps
  • Worded and multi-step question practice from the first week
  • A written gap list the family and the school can both read

Marking clinic

The lowest-cost option and often the most appropriate. The student sits papers independently, we mark them line by line against the published scheme, and a shorter session covers only the error pattern. It suits a self-directed student who is working hard and stuck in the same grade band.

  • One short session per marked paper
  • Every lost mark categorised and tallied across papers
  • Cheaper per week than weekly teaching
  • Often the honest recommendation where a full term was requested

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Hor Al Anz

01

Maths: the code decides the revision, and the instructions decide the marks

  • Confirm the code: 0580, 0607, 4MA1 or 4MB1, and the tier
  • Rounding and significant-figure instructions are the cheapest marks available
  • Write the next line even when the answer looks wrong; method marks survive
  • Index laws, signs and rearrangement are the real content gaps
  • Additional Mathematics 0606 only once the main grade is secure

Maths is the most requested IGCSE subject from this district and the one where the syllabus code matters most. Cambridge 0580 sits two papers, one of them without a calculator, which means non-calculator fluency, exact-form answers and notation carry real weight. Pearson 4MA1 sits two equally weighted papers with a calculator allowed throughout, which shifts the risk to rounding, accuracy and interpreting what the display actually means. Both are tiered, and the tier caps what is available.

The marks that go missing are mostly not topic knowledge. The largest recoverable category across marked papers is instruction-reading: an answer given to two decimal places when three significant figures were requested, a length given where an area was wanted, units omitted or wrong. These are fast to fix and a tutor who starts with circle theorems instead has chosen the harder route for no reason.

The second category is abandoned method. On the long structured questions, method marks are available even when the final answer is wrong, and a student who stops because the number looks unpleasant forfeits marks already earned. Training a student to write the next line even when they expect to be wrong takes about three sessions and is worth several marks a paper for the rest of their school career.

The third is genuine algebraic fluency: sign errors when expanding, dropped negatives, index laws, and rearranging a formula with the unknown on both sides. This is where a real content gap usually lives and it generally traces back to Years 7 to 9. It is repairable in six to eight weeks of short consistent practice and not in a fortnight, and a parent deserves to hear that in week one rather than week six.

02

The three sciences, and the three different reasons marks disappear

Physics, chemistry and biology fail in different ways, which is why a single revision instruction underperforms across them. In physics the losses are mathematical: rearranging a formula when the unknown sits in the denominator, standard form on very large or very small values, unit prefixes, and reading a gradient from a drawn line rather than from two plotted points. A student who is strong in biology and weak in physics usually has an algebra problem wearing a physics costume.

In chemistry the losses are method selection and notation. A student who can convert a mass to moles on request but does not recognise that a question requires it has a selection problem, and the repair is mixed practice where the method has to be chosen rather than applied. Alongside that, balanced equations, state symbols and ionic charges carry marks that students read as neatness. They are not neatness, and the fix is mechanical, which means it holds under pressure.

In biology the losses are terminology and point-counting. The precise term scores and an approximation of it often does not, and a six-mark question wants six distinct scoring points rather than a thorough paragraph containing three. Reading the mark allocation first and planning that many separate points in the margin is a two-session habit that pays out on every long-answer question in the paper.

Across all three sits the practical component, which at most international centres is examined as a written alternative-to-practical paper rather than as a laboratory test. That paper is trainable technique: reading an instrument to the right precision, identifying variables, finding the flaw in a described method, building a results table with units, plotting and interpreting a graph, and suggesting an improvement that addresses the specific weakness rather than a generic one. It is the most neglected component in the qualification and one of the most recoverable.

The table maps each subject to its codes, its papers and the first thing a tutor should work on. Use it to choose which single subject to fund if the budget covers one.

03

Coming from CBSE: what transfers, and what has to be learned

A large share of enquiries from Hor Al Anz involve a student who moved into a British-curriculum school from CBSE or ICSE, either at the start of Year 10 or part-way through. These students are frequently misdiagnosed, including by themselves. They are not behind on content. They are usually ahead on procedural arithmetic and systematic practice, and unpractised at the specific things IGCSE mark schemes reward.

Three differences account for most of it. The first is worded, context-led questions: IGCSE wraps the mathematics or the science in a scenario and expects the student to extract what is needed, where the previous system more often asked the question directly. The second is the expectation that method is shown and credited, so a student trained to produce answers efficiently loses marks they had earned. The third is the structured long answer, scored by distinct points against a mark scheme rather than by overall quality.

None of those is a deficiency and all three are learnable quickly, usually in a term of focused work. What they are not is fixable by covering the syllabus again, which is the standard offer a transferring family receives. The right first step is an audit: specification topic by topic, what was covered and to what depth, compared with the new school's teaching order. That produces a short list rather than a syllabus, and it prevents paying to re-teach material the student already holds.

The table sets out the transfer picture subject by subject. It is a starting hypothesis for the audit rather than a conclusion, because individual schools vary far more than curricula do, and a student should always be assessed on their own script rather than on their previous curriculum's reputation.

What tuition actually costs around Deira, and how to spend a fixed budget

This district has one of the most active tuition markets in Dubai and also the widest spread of prices, so published figures are genuinely useful here. Market rates from provider pages and the Bestimate Dubai table put budget online tutoring at roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, a qualified subject tutor working online at roughly AED 150 to 300, an IGCSE specialist at about AED 200 to 450 or more, and an in-home visit at roughly AED 180 to 500 once travel is inside the fee. Monthly figures run about AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 600 to 1,200 in the mid band for one weekly subject.

Those are the market and not our price list. The reason to publish them is that most pages competing for this search publish nothing: three of the six examined for this project quote no figure at all, and one asks the price in its own list of questions and then declines to answer it. A family with a fixed budget cannot allocate it sensibly without knowing what the bands are.

The allocation question matters more here than the rate question. A fixed budget spread across three subjects buys three thin arrangements, none of which diagnoses anything. The same budget spent on one subject properly, chosen by marked evidence, usually produces a better set of grades, because the weakest subject is often weak for a reason shared with a second. Maths is frequently the right single choice, since the same gaps damage physics and chemistry calculations.

Group tuition at a centre is cheaper per hour and genuinely useful for content coverage where a student is simply behind on material. Its weakness is diagnosis: nobody in a group reads one student's script closely enough to notice they are losing marks to command words rather than to content. The sensible combination for a budget-conscious family is content coverage in a group plus occasional one-to-one marking, rather than more group hours.

The practical shape of an evening in a Deira apartment

  • Metro and school-bus arrivals make 17:00 to 17:30 the realistic earliest start
  • Hard surface, squared paper, own calculator, headphones, camera on the page
  • Siblings get staggered evenings, not a shared session
  • Ramadan: fewer and shorter sessions, agreed before the month
  • Cross-Creek commuters need later slots than Al Qusais students

Hor Al Anz students mostly travel by school bus or on the Green Line, which produces a more predictable arrival time than a car in New Dubai traffic but not an early one. Students attending the Al Qusais or Al Nahda cluster are generally home between 15:30 and 16:30; students crossing the Creek to Al Garhoud, Festival City or Oud Metha arrive later. Add food and a change of clothes, and the slot that holds reliably across a term is 17:00 to 17:30 at the earliest.

Apartment study space is the second practical issue and it deserves five minutes of planning. A hard surface rather than a sofa, squared paper and a ruler for graph work, the student's own calculator rather than a phone, and headphones so that a busy household is not part of the lesson. The camera is angled at the page rather than at the face, because in every one of these subjects the diagnosis comes from watching the working appear.

Where siblings share a room, which is common here, staggered slots on different evenings work and a shared session does not. Two students at different levels in the same session means one of them is being supervised rather than taught. If the budget only covers one child's tuition, that is a decision worth making deliberately rather than by splitting the hour.

Ramadan reshapes the pattern for several weeks and Dubai schools adjust their hours. The arrangement that works is fewer and shorter sessions moved to the late morning or the post-Iftar window, with lighter work set between them, agreed before the month begins. For a Year 11 student these weeks often sit close to a mock series, which is exactly why planning the shift is better than improvising through it.

06

The series, the entry and the resit route

  • UAE candidates sit June and November; February and March is India-only
  • Get the syllabus codes and tiers per subject from the examinations officer
  • Ask for the zone-correct Cambridge timetable and keep it
  • Decide the resit question in spring, not in the week results arrive
  • Check the receiving institution's deadline before committing to a resit

Cambridge IGCSE runs in a June series and a November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Those are the windows available to a UAE candidate. The Cambridge February and March series is offered to India only, which matters especially in a district where many families have direct experience of the Indian system and may reasonably assume otherwise. A date attached to that series should be disregarded by a Dubai family.

The entry carries the syllabus codes and the tier and is lodged months before the papers. One email to the examinations officer asking for codes and tiers per subject removes the largest single source of wasted revision time, because it determines which past papers are worth sitting. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one.

Pearson's published pattern gives a sense of the real calendar: its November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is why the live official timetable rather than any summary is the document to work from.

The resit conversation should happen in the spring rather than in August. Summer results arrive late in the month and the November entry closes within weeks, which puts the decision under time pressure before anyone has seen a script. Ask the examinations officer when the November entry closes and how a script copy can be obtained, and agree in advance what evidence would justify a resit. Where a post-16 place or an equivalency application depends on a grade, the binding deadline is the receiving institution's, so ask them in writing.

07

Equivalency and what the grades have to add up to

Families in this district planning for UAE university entry meet the Ministry of Education equivalency requirements, and the IGCSE grades feed into them directly. For the British track the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among the five required subjects.

That exclusion is worth noting carefully because one ranking competitor publishes a six-subject figure, which does not match the published rule. A family planning a subject combination on the wrong number may take a decision it cannot reverse, and the window in which the combination is changeable is Year 9 and early Year 10, the same window as the tier decision.

For the American track the published requirements differ in kind: English proficiency through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in the SAT Math test. No International Baccalaureate points threshold appears in the source we rely on, so no IB figure should be published without a reading from the Ministry's own site, and we leave the gap rather than guessing.

Equivalency is a regulatory process that IB Gram does not perform, influence or guarantee. We describe it and point you at the official channel. Nothing on this page should be read as implying that tutoring is required for equivalency, for university admission or for school progression; it is not, and a provider suggesting otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process.

08

Permits, honest limits and what we will not claim

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years
  • No fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted amount as unverified
  • Asking any tutor about their permit is reasonable and expected
  • No board or regulator approval is held, and there is no UAE office
  • No success rates or satisfaction figures appear anywhere on this site

Private tutoring in the UAE is lawful and regulated by permit, which matters in a district where informal home tuition is widely available. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, with the application made through its smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount appears on this page: a figure circulating online could not be verified and publishing it would be guesswork dressed as fact. Asking a tutor about their permit is an ordinary question with an ordinary answer, and evasiveness in response is itself informative. We would also advise against any arrangement involving your child's own schoolteacher, which the permit's code of conduct and reported regulatory rules both point away from.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from Cambridge, Pearson, the International Baccalaureate, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the Ministry of Education, and no page here will claim one. We operate no office, centre or branch in the UAE. We do not enter candidates for examinations and we do not perform equivalency. A tutoring operation with premises in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute; we hold none because we have no premises.

On materials and figures: we reference and link official syllabus, specimen and timetable documents rather than reproducing them, and we do not supply board-owned papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. Your child's school has legitimate access through its own subscriptions. Every number on this page carries a source, and we publish no success rates, satisfaction scores or star ratings, because we could not produce the data behind any of them.

Where we tutor

Hor Al Anz and the Deira neighbourhoods around it

This is dense, well-connected, mid-rise Dubai, and the practical details that affect a tutoring week here are the Metro, the school bus and apartment study space rather than long car journeys.

Hor Al Anz East

The immediate neighbour, with the same apartment profile and the same school-bus timings. Sessions here settle around 17:00 to 17:30 once the bus has arrived and the student has eaten.

Abu Hail

Adjacent and on the Green Line, which is how many older students actually travel. A student who commutes by Metro has a more predictable arrival time than one on a school bus in traffic.

Al Mamzar

Towards the coast, with several of the schools our students attend. Short journeys, so this is one of the areas where an early-evening session genuinely holds.

Al Muteena and Al Murar

Dense Deira apartment blocks. Study space is usually shared, which is why headphones and a hard surface are part of the practical conversation rather than a detail.

Al Qusais

Inland along the Green Line with a substantial cluster of schools. A significant share of Hor Al Anz students travel here daily, and the return journey sets the earliest workable slot.

Al Nahda

On the Sharjah side of this district, with many families straddling the border. Cross-emirate traffic makes early slots unreliable and makes an online arrangement considerably easier to sustain.

Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City

Across the Creek, where some of the nearest British-curriculum and IB provision sits. A longer journey, which pushes session times later in the evening for students attending there.

Oud Metha and Karama

The older school belt on the other side of the Creek, used by families from this area for some of the long-established schools. Worth naming because the term and mock calendars differ between those schools and the Al Qusais ones.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Hor Al Anz

Al Qusais, Al Nahda and Abu Hail

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the one or two subjects that matter

Not school in general. A specific subject, with the syllabus code if you have it, and what is going wrong. That focus is what allows a fixed budget to buy something that works, and it also lets us tell you when the honest answer is one subject rather than the three you were considering.

  2. 02

Get the codes and tiers from the school

One email to the examinations officer, asking for the syllabus code and tier for each subject on the entry. Dubai schools sometimes use different boards for different subjects in the same year group, and a student revising the wrong board's papers is working hard in a dialect the examination does not speak.

  3. 03

Send a marked paper, not a report

The marked script shows where the marks went: instruction-reading, abandoned method, a genuine content gap, or questions never reached. A report shows a grade. We categorise every lost mark rather than counting them, and the resulting tally decides what the first month contains.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson on real questions

The first session is free and runs on past-paper questions drawn from the script you sent. The tutor watches the working appear, which is where diagnosis happens. A short written note follows naming the two priority items and the order to fix them in, and the note is yours whether or not you book.

  5. 05

Agree a finite plan and review it

A named number of sessions with the school and public holidays already subtracted, two priority topics in writing, and a review against a second marked paper. If the problem is solved we say so and stop. If a marking clinic would now do the job more cheaply than teaching, we say that too.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

One subject funded properly, not three funded thinly

A fixed budget spread across three subjects buys three arrangements that diagnose nothing. The same money on the subject the marked scripts identify, often maths, usually lifts two grades because the underlying gap was shared. That is the recommendation most families here get from us.

Matched to a syllabus code, not a subject name

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different examinations with different calculator rules and different past papers. Tutors here are matched to the code and tier your child is entered for, which removes the most common avoidable waste of revision time in this qualification.

Transfers audited before anything is taught

Students arriving from CBSE or ICSE usually have the content and not the answer technique. One audit session produces a short gap list and names the technique problem, instead of selling a syllabus re-run to a student who did not need one.

Rates published with their sources

This page names the Deira market bands in dirhams and says who published each figure. Three of six competitor pages publish no price at all, and one asks the question in its own FAQ then declines to answer it. A family with a fixed budget needs the bands to allocate it.

The cheapest workable option is named, including when it is not us

Group content coverage plus occasional one-to-one marking is often the right combination on a tight budget, and we will say so. A marking clinic is frequently the honest recommendation where a full term of teaching was being requested.

Plain about what we are not

A tutor-matching platform with no board or regulator approval, no UAE premises, and no home-visit service in the Emirates. We do not enter candidates or perform equivalency. Where this page names a regulator it explains what that body does and links its own pages.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Hor Al Anz: your questions answered

Does IB Gram send IGCSE tutors to homes in Hor Al Anz?+

No. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; sending a tutor to a family address is a service we run only in India. IGCSE support here is delivered one-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time. The practical advantages in this district are real: you select from everyone who has taught your child's syllabus code rather than from those willing to travel to Abu Hail on a weekday evening, you do not pay a travel premium, and no session disappears because somebody was stuck in traffic on Al Ittihad Road.

What does IGCSE tuition cost around Hor Al Anz and Al Qusais?+

Published Dubai bands put budget online tutoring at roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, a qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150 to 300, an IGCSE specialist at about AED 200 to 450 or more, and an in-home visit at roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the fee. Monthly estimates run about AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 600 to 1,200 in the mid band for one weekly subject. Those figures come from published provider pages and the Bestimate Dubai rate table rather than from us; we quote after the free trial lesson.

With one subject's budget to spend in Hor Al Anz, where does it go furthest?+

Usually the one where a marked paper shows the largest recoverable loss, which is not always the lowest grade. Maths is frequently the right single choice, because the rearrangement, standard form and proportional reasoning that cost marks there also damage physics and chemistry calculations, so fixing it lifts more than one grade. Biology is more often a terminology and point-counting problem that a disciplined student can work on with less supervision once the method has been taught. Send one marked paper per subject and we will name the order.

Our child moved from CBSE to IGCSE and the grades dropped. What happened?+

Almost always a technique mismatch rather than a knowledge gap. IGCSE wraps the content in worded, context-led questions and expects the student to extract what is needed. It credits method shown even when the final answer is wrong, so a student trained to produce answers efficiently loses marks they had earned. And its long answers are scored by distinct points against a mark scheme rather than by overall quality. All three are learnable in a term. What does not help is covering the syllabus again, which is the usual offer a transferring family receives.

Is a tuition centre in Deira as good as one-to-one?+

For different things. A centre is cheaper per hour and genuinely effective at content coverage where a student is simply behind on material. Its weakness is diagnosis: in a group nobody reads one student's script closely enough to notice that marks are going to command words or rounding instructions rather than to content, and that is the kind of finding that actually changes a grade. On a tight budget the sensible combination is group content coverage plus occasional one-to-one marking, rather than more group hours.

Which maths syllabus is my child entered for, and why does it matter?+

Ask the examinations officer for the code, not the subject name. Cambridge 0580 sits two papers with one taken without a calculator, so non-calculator fluency, exact form and notation carry real weight. Pearson 4MA1 sits two equally weighted papers with a calculator throughout, which moves the risk to rounding and interpretation. Cambridge 0607 is the graphic-display-calculator syllabus and 4MB1 is Pearson's more compressed alternative. Each has its own past-paper library, and practising on the wrong one is the most common avoidable waste of revision time we see.

How are practical science skills examined if lessons are on a screen?+

Laboratory work for school purposes happens at school under the school's supervision, and no tutor takes part in it. What tutoring affects is the written assessment of practical skills, which most international centres sit as an alternative-to-practical paper. Those questions are predictable: reading an instrument to the correct precision, identifying independent, dependent and controlled variables, spotting the flaw in a described method, completing a results table with headings and units, plotting and interpreting a graph, and suggesting an improvement that addresses the specific weakness described.

Why does my child lose marks in physics but not in biology?+

Because physics examines mathematics. Rearranging a formula when the unknown sits in the denominator, standard form on very large or very small values, converting between unit prefixes, and reading a gradient from a drawn line are all maths skills tested inside a physics paper. Biology rewards precise terminology and well-counted long answers, which is a different kind of diligence. A student strong in one and weak in the other usually has a specific algebra gap, and closing it improves the chemistry calculations at the same time.

Can one tutor cover maths and two sciences for a Year 11 student?+

Sometimes, and it is often not the best arrangement. Most strong tutors teach two of those three well and are honest about the third, and the difference between a competent explanation and an expert one is largest exactly in the topics that are causing trouble. Two specialists on two evenings with one shared written plan generally beats one generalist across three subjects. If we do not have a good match for a subject we will say so rather than stretching somebody into it.

What time can sessions start for a student travelling back from Al Qusais?+

Around 17:00 to 17:30 in practice. Students attending the Al Qusais, Al Nahda or Abu Hail cluster are usually home between 15:30 and 16:30 by bus or Metro, and after food and a change of clothes that is the earliest slot that holds through a term. Students crossing the Creek to Al Garhoud, Festival City or Oud Metha arrive later and need a correspondingly later slot. Because sessions are online nobody is travelling to the lesson, so the only thing the slot has to survive is the household's own evening.

Do you work with students at Indian-curriculum schools as well?+

This page is written for IGCSE, which is what the search asks about, and many families in this district have children in both systems. Where a student is sitting CBSE or ICSE examinations, the subject knowledge overlaps substantially and the assessment conventions do not, so tell us which board and which year when you enquire. Where a transfer into IGCSE is planned, the most useful work is the audit and technique bridge described on this page, ideally in the term before the move rather than after it.

Can two children share one session to keep the cost down?+

We would advise against it, and the reason is practical rather than commercial. Two students at different levels in one hour means one of them is being supervised while the other is taught, and neither gets the diagnostic value that comes from a tutor watching one student's working appear. If the budget covers one child's tuition, it is better to make that choice deliberately, fund the subject that gives the widest benefit, and use a marking clinic for the other child rather than splitting an hour two ways.

When do IGCSE candidates in Dubai sit their papers?+

Cambridge IGCSE runs a June series and a November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Dubai centres normally enter the main Year 11 cohort for the summer window and use November as the resit route. The Cambridge February and March series is offered to India only, so any date attached to it should be disregarded here. Ask the school for the zone-correct Cambridge timetable, because every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones and Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong version.

Does a private tutor working in Deira need a UAE permit?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated through the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any amount you read as unverified. Asking about the permit is a reasonable question in any arrangement.

Name the subject, send the script

IGCSE support works best when it is narrow. Tell us one or two subjects, the syllabus codes if you have them, and send a marked paper, and we will tell you where the marks are going, which single subject gives the widest benefit for a fixed budget, and whether a marking clinic would do what weekly teaching is being bought for. Where a transfer from another system is behind the problem, the first session is an audit rather than a lesson. The trial lesson is free and runs on real questions from your child's own paper. Everything is delivered one-to-one, online, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, at a time that works once the bus or the Metro has got them home.
