IB Home Tutor in Hor Al Anz

Looking for an IB home tutor in Hor Al Anz, and wondering whether a family in Al Mamzar or Al Qusais has it easier? They do not. The street access and visitor parking differ, the metro distance differs, the school runs differ - and for Diploma and Middle Years subjects the answer lands in the same place from all four, because the constraint is how few people teach these programmes on this side of the city. IB Gram does not visit homes in the UAE. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Hor Al Anz

Four neighbourhoods, four different front doors, one answer

Hor Al Anz is one of the denser residential districts in Deira: mid-rise apartment blocks on tight streets, limited visitor parking, and Abu Hail metro station within walking distance for much of it. Families here compare their position constantly against Al Mamzar on the coast, Al Qusais inland and Deira proper to the west, and the comparison is worth running properly - the practical conditions genuinely differ. For the IB question specifically, they turn out not to matter, and that is worth explaining rather than asserting.

The differences are real at the front door. A visiting tutor coming to a Hor Al Anz apartment block faces narrow streets and parking that is frequently unavailable rather than merely slow. In Al Mamzar the streets are wider and the parking easier, but the journey in from the rest of the city is longer. In Al Qusais the roads are better and the school cluster is on the doorstep. Deira proper is the most congested of the four. Four genuinely different arrival problems.

None of them changes who teaches the International Baccalaureate. IB programmes account for about 7 per cent of Dubai's private-school enrolment, in a sector of 227 private schools and 387,441 students teaching seventeen different curricula. That 7 per cent concentrates in Emirates Hills, Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim and the New Dubai belt, with the nearest provision to Hor Al Anz sitting in Al Garhoud, Dubai Festival City and east in Mirdif. Tutors cluster where their market is, and their market is not Deira.

So the arithmetic is the same from every one of these four addresses. The number of people in this city who have taught Higher Level Chemistry, or Analysis and Approaches Paper 3, or who can supervise an Extended Essay properly, is small. The number of those who are also free at the hour your child can concentrate and willing to cross the city and find parking on a Hor Al Anz street at 5pm is smaller again. Choosing on the second condition means accepting a worse answer on the first.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Hor Al Anz or anywhere else in the UAE; a tutor attending a student's address is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. This page makes that case on the specifics - what a visit actually costs in teaching minutes from a dense Deira address, how the four neighbourhoods compare, and where the local market genuinely is the better option, because for Arabic and for CBSE support in this district it often is.

The order below follows the question. First, what a home visit costs in teaching minutes from a dense Deira address, with the four districts set against each other on arrival time rather than on atmosphere. Second, why the IB answer resolves identically from all four, explained through the three filters that actually govern availability. Then what the phrase 'IB tutor' has to contain before it means anything, the rate read per teaching minute rather than per hour, the slot that survives a term from a metro-adjacent address, and the internal assessment boundary that protects the candidate rather than the provider.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IB family in Hor Al Anz may be in any of three programmes, and the comparison with neighbouring districts plays out differently in each. These are the stages and what they require here.

PYPAges 3-12 · PYP

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with transdisciplinary themes rather than subject syllabuses and no external examination. Support here is rarely subject tutoring - the useful work is literacy, numeracy fluency and the research and presentation habits the programme assumes, and a generalist primary teacher is a better match than a specialist.

This is the one stage where the neighbourhood comparison does change the answer. Primary support does not require IB-specific expertise, and the local tutoring market across Hor Al Anz, Abu Hail and Al Qusais is deep and well priced for exactly that. A nearby tutor is often the better option, and we would say so.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, four criteria each scored zero to eight, converted to a one-to-seven grade. What is scarce here is not subject knowledge but criteria literacy - the ability to read a descriptor and teach the skill it names. That competence is thinly spread in Deira because the programme is thinly represented.

The Personal Project in MYP 5 is the component where a Hor Al Anz family is most likely to be working without local peers who have done it before. Twenty-four marks across planning, applying skills and reflecting, with the process journal as the evidence base for all three - and no neighbour to tell you that the journal is the whole thing.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across the groups at Higher or Standard Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS. Sat in the May session UAE schools use, with a November session also available. This is where the supply gap between this district and the New Dubai belt is widest, and where online matching changes the answer most.

A Diploma student in Hor Al Anz is commuting, because no IB school sits in the district. The nearest provision is Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City, roughly fifteen to thirty minutes depending on the hour, with further provision east in Mirdif. That commute is the reason afternoon appointments in this neighbourhood are so often rescheduled.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The core components, separately

The Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS are not simply extra subjects. Supervising an Extended Essay well is a different skill from teaching the subject it sits in, and Theory of Knowledge asks for a form of argument that appears nowhere else in the programme. Both are scarcer than any individual subject.

The school supervisor is and should remain the primary route for the Extended Essay. What an outside tutor can usefully add is interrogating whether a research question is answerable within the word limit and the resources available, and giving feedback on a draft the student has written - not producing text.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Hor Al Anz families ask about, with the component that decides the grade and an honest note on coverage.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, which is where understanding is really tested. Higher Level Paper 3 carries 20 per cent and is the component students have practised least. Standard Level coverage is reasonable; Higher Level is thinner.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with calculator access throughout. The Higher Level statistics content is demanding and is among the hardest requirements in the set to match a specialist for, from any district.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume and the data-based questions decide the grade. The most frequently requested Diploma science in this catchment, driven by health-science ambitions, and reasonably well covered.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Mole-based calculations drain marks across every paper, and organic is taught last and revised least. Higher Level organic specialists are scarce city-wide rather than only on this side of it.

Physics

HL and SL

Fields and circuits are the reliable mark drains, and the data-analysis section of Paper 1 rewards uncertainty work that is rarely taught as a system. Higher Level coverage is thin.

Economics and Business Management

HL and SL

Both popular in a district where many parents work in trade and logistics around Deira and Al Hamriya. Command terms and diagram accuracy decide more marks than content does, and coverage is good.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the paper on unseen non-literary texts are where marks move. Wide reading alone does not help; shaping an argument to the question asked does.

English B

HL and SL

Taken by many students in this catchment whose home language is not English. The individual oral and the writing task reward timed practice rather than vocabulary work, and coverage is good.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL and SL

Demand for the first-language pathway is above the city average in this district, and local supply for it is genuinely deep. This is the clearest case where a nearby tutor beats an online match.

Psychology and Global Politics

HL and SL

Both reward command-term discipline and the use of specific studies or cases rather than general argument. Coverage is moderate and thinner for the Higher Level extensions.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core

Scarcer than any subject, because supervision is a distinct skill. Support is on question viability, criteria understanding and feedback on the student's own draft, never on producing the work.

Approaches to Learning across the Diploma

All programmes

Workload planning, backwards planning from internal deadlines, revising against weightings rather than evenly. One person can cover this across six subjects, and it is frequently the right purchase for a student who is drowning rather than failing.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways IB support runs for Hor Al Anz families, all delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time rather than by home visit.

Weekly subject support at a named level

One session a week on one subject at one named level, following the school's own sequence. The level is part of the booking rather than a footnote, because Higher and Standard Level diverge in content, paper structure and expected depth and a tutor comfortable at one is not automatically useful at the other.

  • Booked by subject and level together
  • Tracks the school's scheme of work rather than a generic plan
  • Catches a weak unit in the term it is taught
  • Lowest cost per hour of the three options

Core component block

A short run timed to a school internal deadline for an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay, concentrated early where question viability and planning decide most of the marks. The research, the data, the argument and the words stay the student's own throughout, which is both required and the reason the marks hold.

  • Question or topic viability tested before work is invested
  • Assessment criteria read against the student's own draft
  • Feedback rather than rewriting, stated explicitly up front
  • Timed to the school's internal deadline, not the IB's

Two siblings, one evening

Common in this district, where multi-child households are the norm and apartment living makes a second visitor appointment genuinely disruptive. Two sessions run back to back on the same evening, with two different specialists if the subjects differ, and no second journey for anybody.

  • Back-to-back slots with no travel overhead
  • Different specialists for different subjects if needed
  • No second visitor to admit, park or accommodate
  • Works identically whichever of these four districts you live in

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Hor Al Anz

01

What a home visit costs in teaching minutes from a dense Deira address

It is worth taking the home-tutor question seriously rather than deflecting it, because the market offers the service and the search is sensible. In-home one-to-one tutoring in Dubai is advertised at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with Bestimate's in-home band at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors quoted at AED 200 to 500. Advertised monthly packages run around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. The travel is inside the price in every case.

In Hor Al Anz, though, the cost is not only in the rate - it is in teaching minutes. The district is dense mid-rise on tight streets with visitor parking that is frequently unavailable rather than merely slow. A tutor who arrives at the right time and then spends twelve minutes finding a space has turned a sixty-minute lesson into forty-eight, and the first five of those are spent settling rather than teaching. Repeat weekly and the loss is a session a month.

That is a different problem from the one a villa community has, and it is why the comparison with neighbouring districts is worth making precisely. Al Mamzar has easier parking and a longer inbound journey. Al Qusais has both better roads and easier parking. Deira proper has the worst congestion. Each produces a similar net loss by a different route, which is the point: the arrival problem varies in form and barely in size.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Hor Al Anz, in Dubai, or anywhere in the UAE; a tutor attending a student's address is a service we run only in India. So this is not a service we are selling against - it is why the delivery model is what it is. The table sets the four districts out honestly, including the one genuine advantage of a visit, which is that for a younger student a person in the room is worth paying for.

02

Why the IB answer is identical from all four addresses

  • Three filters: programme and level, diagnostic ability, then logistics
  • The logistics filter is uncorrelated with teaching quality
  • Applying it means accepting a worse answer on the two that matter
  • That trade is identical from all four districts
  • The exception runs the other way for Arabic and primary support, where local supply is deep

The reason has nothing to do with online tuition being inherently better and everything to do with how scarce supply behaves under constraints. Think of three filters applied in order. First: people who have taught this programme, in this subject, at this level. Second: of those, the ones who can diagnose where a particular student is losing marks rather than simply teach the content again. Third: of those, the ones free at a usable hour and willing to drive to a specific street and park there.

The first filter cuts hard, because IB programmes are about 7 per cent of Dubai's enrolment and that share concentrates away from Deira. The second cuts harder, because teaching a subject and diagnosing a failure pattern are different competencies. The third cuts again, and crucially it cuts in a way uncorrelated with teaching quality - willingness to circle a Hor Al Anz street at 5pm tells you nothing about how well someone explains an energy cycle or an Extended Essay research question.

Applying the third filter therefore means accepting a worse result on the first two, and that trade is the same whether the street is in Hor Al Anz, Al Mamzar, Abu Hail or Al Qusais. It is also why the comparison between those four, while genuinely interesting on parking and commute, resolves identically on the question the search was actually about. Removing the logistics filter does not improve the tutor; it stops geography choosing on your behalf.

There is one honest exception, and it runs the other way. For Arabic as a first language and for primary-stage support, local supply in this district is deep and well priced, because that is where local demand sits. In those cases the nearby option is frequently the better one, and the comparison between districts matters again because proximity to a particular school community genuinely helps. Supply is uneven in both directions, and which direction depends on the subject.

03

What an 'IB tutor' has to mean before the word is useful

  • Programme, subject and level together - any two of the three is not a specification
  • Higher Level adds depth throughout, so a Standard Level tutor may not scale up
  • Extended Essay supervision and Theory of Knowledge are distinct roles, not add-ons
  • Ask what each paper is worth and name the internal assessment criteria
  • Hand over a marked script and ask what the first three sessions would do

'IB tutor' is not a specification, and treating it as one is how families in this district end up paying for a term that produces nothing. Three pieces of information turn it into a specification: the programme, the subject, and the level. A tutor for Middle Years sciences, a tutor for Standard Level Biology and a tutor for Higher Level Chemistry are three different people, and only the second two are even in the same programme.

Level matters more than families expect. Higher Level courses add depth woven through the content rather than a block at the end, so a tutor who has taught Standard Level thoroughly may be genuinely unable to handle the Higher Level extension - and will discover that in week three rather than admitting it in week one. Asking for the level in the booking is not pedantry; it is the difference between a match and an approximation.

The core components need naming separately again. An Extended Essay supervisor, a Theory of Knowledge tutor and a subject tutor are distinct roles. Supervising an essay is about question viability, scope, methodology and criteria rather than about content, and Theory of Knowledge asks for a kind of argument that appears nowhere else in the programme. A subject specialist who agrees to cover Theory of Knowledge as a favour is usually doing neither job well.

The test a parent can run, without subject expertise, is three questions in a free trial. What is each paper worth, and what does the internal assessment contribute? Name the internal assessment criteria for this subject and the marks for each. And here is a marked script - what does the pattern of lost marks indicate, and what would the first three sessions therefore do? Ten minutes of that sorts the market more reliably than any credential list.

04

The rate, read per teaching minute rather than per hour

Hourly rates hide the thing that matters in a dense district, which is how much of the hour is teaching. Published figures first. Online, the budget band starts at roughly AED 33 to 52 an hour with Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 with EdFlik, which generally means a university student. A qualified subject tutor online is published from around AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist IB work is quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase at around AED 270, and examiner-led sessions at around AED 650 with BartyED.

In-home one-to-one sits at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price. Now apply the Hor Al Anz arrival problem. A sixty-minute visit that loses ten to fifteen minutes to street parking and settling delivers forty-five to fifty teaching minutes, which moves the effective rate up by a fifth or more. That is before any session is cancelled outright, and in this district the appointments most often cancelled are the ones depending on somebody else's drive and somebody else's parking space.

The monthly comparison makes it clearer. Advertised packages in this market run around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits against roughly AED 799 for eight online sessions. Eight contacts against four, at half the price, and with no minutes lost at the door. For building fluency in a subject, contact frequency matters more than session length, which makes that comparison unflattering in a way the hourly figures conceal.

IB Gram publishes no rate card on this page, because a figure quoted without knowing the programme, the subject, the level and the frequency is a number rather than information. The trial lesson and the consultation are free, and the figures above are other providers' published rates. For budgeting context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion.

The slot that survives a term, and why Abu Hail station matters

  • A Green Line commute to Abu Hail makes a 4.30pm session genuinely viable
  • A car journey from Al Garhoud varies by twenty minutes, which breaks a 5pm slot
  • 7.30pm or 8pm is the most robust slot and fits Deira working hours
  • Younger students need the earlier slot even at some cost to reliability
  • A weekend block is often the only time a full timed paper can be sat and reviewed

There is one logistical feature of this catchment that genuinely changes the answer, and it is the Green Line. A student who travels to school by metro from a station near their school and walks home from Abu Hail arrives predictably, usually by around 3.30pm, with little week-to-week variance. That makes a 4.30pm session viable in a way it is not for a student travelling by car across the creek or from Mirdif in afternoon traffic.

For students who do travel by car the picture is different. A journey back from Al Garhoud or Dubai Festival City takes fifteen to thirty minutes depending on the day, and the variance rather than the average is the problem. A 5pm booking against a twenty-minute swing becomes a 5.20pm start often enough that the slot becomes unreliable across a term, and an unreliable slot is worse than a later one because the student stops planning around it.

The post-dinner slot at 7.30pm or 8pm is the most robust option in this district and the one that also fits working parents. Many parents in this catchment work in Deira and finish after 6pm, and being present for a session - or at least in the next room - matters more for a Middle Years student than for a Diploma one. The trade is alertness, which is why it suits Years 10 to 13 better than Years 7 and 8.

The weekend block is the piece most families here leave out. In apartment living with siblings and limited quiet space, a longer Saturday or Sunday morning session is frequently the only time a student can sit a full timed paper and review it in the same sitting. Without that there is no diagnosis, only an impression, and the whole value of a block depends on being able to compare a paper at the end against one at the start.

06

Internal assessments, the Extended Essay and the line that protects the student

  • A tutor teaches, interrogates, models on different material, and comments on the student's draft
  • The research, data, argument and words must be the student's own
  • The school's authentication puts the risk on the candidate, not the paid helper
  • Board materials are referenced and linked, never reproduced or supplied
  • Exact IB session dates come from the school's Diploma coordinator or ibo.org, not from us

Internal assessments carry a fifth of the grade in most Diploma subjects, and with the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge essay they are where the honesty question is sharpest - long independent pieces, produced under deadlines, by seventeen-year-olds with five other subjects making demands. The boundary is clear and worth fixing in mind before any pressure arrives.

A tutor may teach content, explain what each criterion rewards, interrogate a research question, model a technique on different material, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not produce the work. The research, the data, the argument and the words have to be the student's own, and the school authenticates that. If the authentication is untrue, the sanction falls on the candidate rather than on whoever helped or was paid, which is the asymmetry that matters.

One site ranking in this market sells completed internal assessments at a published price. The seller keeps the fee, the candidate carries the entire risk, and no part of that transaction improves the student's position if it is detected. Recognising it for what it is matters more than any rule, because the rule is enforced in one direction only. The same applies to offers described as editing or polishing when they go beyond clarity.

Materials follow the same principle. We reference IB subject guides, past papers and mark schemes, cite them and point to the official source rather than reproducing them, because they are the board's copyright and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. We also publish no IB session or results dates on these pages, because ibo.org blocks automated access and nothing in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself - the May session is the one UAE schools sit, and exact dates come from the school's Diploma coordinator.

07

The permit, and the claim nobody should make

  • The private tuition work permit comes from MoHRE under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • It is granted free of charge for two years, with a two-working-day completion time
  • No fine schedule is published - treat any quoted penalty figure as unverified
  • A KHDA Educational Services Permit is for training institutes with premises
  • Paying your child's own classroom teacher privately risks breaching a code of conduct

There is one thing about any tutor that a parent in Hor Al Anz can verify with a single question, and almost nobody asks it. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students.

MoHRE's own service page is 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', applied for through its smart app, website and e-services system, and it lists no fees alongside a two-working-day completion time. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published anywhere official, so any figure quoted to you as the penalty - including those circulating in parent groups - should be treated as unverified.

Anyone telling you private tutoring in Dubai is unregulated, or that a permit is optional, is wrong, and that is a useful signal about everything else they say. The opposite error is equally telling: a tutoring service claiming regulator endorsement is describing something specific. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is issued to training institutes with premises - initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. A platform without premises does not hold one and should not imply it.

There is a related point about who teaches. Abu Dhabi's ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct barring the same arrangement. Those are press-reported positions and should be verified against the current policy document, but the principle travels across the UAE: engaging your child's own classroom teacher privately is the arrangement most likely to put that teacher in breach, however convenient it looks from an apartment block five minutes from the school.

08

Five regulators, and why two of them matter in Deira

  • KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi, SPEA in Sharjah, Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah
  • Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah authorities approve curricula and fees, not only inspection outcomes
  • Households in this district can have children under two different regulators
  • Mandatory UAE subjects apply alongside any licensed international curriculum in Dubai
  • Additional content in the mandatory subjects needs prior Ministry of Education permission

Private schools in Dubai are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. For a family in Hor Al Anz the rest of the regulator map is not background: the Sharjah boundary is a short drive, and some households in this district have children at schools under a different authority from their neighbours.

In Abu Dhabi, the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. In Sharjah, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education; in Ras Al Khaimah, the Department of Knowledge does the same. The Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Those five bodies are the complete map, and ADEK is named by none of the competitor pages researched in this market.

The Sharjah distinction is substantive rather than administrative. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods - so curriculum and fee approval, not merely inspection outcomes, sits with the emirate regulator. A family here with one child at a Dubai school and another across the boundary is dealing with two approval frameworks and two sets of published reports.

Within Dubai, the mandatory UAE subjects apply regardless of the licensed curriculum. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools, with KHDA's requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated against a forty-minute lesson unit; separate classes are required for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies; and additional or different content in those subjects needs prior permission from the Ministry of Education, which constrains what any tutor may legitimately offer in them.

Where we tutor

The four-way comparison, address by address

Each note names what genuinely differs about getting a tutor to that door - and the IB answer that does not change.

Hor Al Anz and Hor Al Anz East

Dense mid-rise on tight streets, with visitor parking frequently unavailable rather than merely slow. A visiting tutor loses time circling before a lesson starts. What does not differ: the number of Higher Level Diploma specialists within reach is still small.

Al Mamzar

Wider streets and easier parking than Hor Al Anz, but further from the rest of the city, so the inbound journey is longer. Net effect on a visiting tutor's time is roughly the same, arriving from a different direction.

Abu Hail

Green Line station on the doorstep, which is the single most useful logistical feature in this catchment. A student commuting by metro is home predictably by around 3.30pm, which makes an afternoon session genuinely viable.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

Better roads, easier parking, and the nearest substantial school cluster. The easiest of the four for a visiting tutor, and still no better supplied with Diploma specialists, because the schools there are mostly other curricula.

Deira and Al Muteena

The most congested of the four and where many parents in this catchment work. Finishing after 6pm is normal, which makes a 7.30pm online session the only slot a parent can be present for.

Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City

Where the nearest IB provision sits, fifteen to thirty minutes away depending on the hour. Also the most likely home of a locally based Diploma tutor, which is why a visiting rate from there carries a real travel component.

Mirdif and Al Twar

IB continuum provision east along the Sharjah corridor and a common alternative commute. The travel premium applies in the opposite direction, and the specialist supply is the same.

Across the boundary into Sharjah

Schools regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority rather than KHDA. Border traffic makes any afternoon appointment unworkable, so the comparison with Hor Al Anz is moot - both end up on evening sessions.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the programme, subject and level

Middle Years or Diploma, the subject, and Higher or Standard. Those three together are a specification; any two of them is a guess, and a request without the level comes back with a question rather than a tutor.

  2. 02

Ask about coverage before anything else

We will tell you whether that combination is well covered, thin, or unavailable at your preferred hour, and roughly how long a match takes. Ask every provider the same question - the answers, and the willingness to answer, are both informative.

  3. 03

    Send a marked script

A marked paper distinguishes content gaps from unwritten method, misread command terms and running out of time. A predicted grade distinguishes none of them, and the four need different first sessions.

  4. 04

Use the free trial to run the three tests

Paper weightings, internal assessment criteria by name and marks, and interpretation of the marked script. Ten minutes of that tells you more than a credential list, and nothing has to be unwound if the answers are vague.

  5. 05

Choose the slot by arrival reliability

A Green Line walk home from Abu Hail makes 4.30pm viable. A car journey from Al Garhoud varies by twenty minutes and breaks a 5pm slot. We will usually recommend the slot that depends on nothing.

  6. 06

Book a weekend block for diagnosis

In apartment living with siblings, a longer weekend morning session is often the only time a full timed paper can be sat and reviewed in one sitting - and without that there is no measurement, only an impression.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison answered, not dodged

We set out what genuinely differs between Hor Al Anz, Al Mamzar, Abu Hail and Al Qusais - parking, journeys, metro access - and then explain why the IB answer is the same from all four.

No minutes lost at the door

A sixty-minute visit to a dense Deira address delivers forty-five to fifty teaching minutes after street parking and settling. Online sessions start on time, which changes the effective rate by a fifth before anything is cancelled.

Specified by programme, subject and level

Higher Level adds depth woven through the content, so a Standard Level tutor may not scale up. The booking records the level because that is where approximate matches fail in week three.

Core components treated as distinct roles

Extended Essay supervision and Theory of Knowledge are not add-ons to a subject tutor's job. We say which we can cover and point to the school supervisor as the primary route for the essay.

Honest about where local wins

For Arabic as a first language and for primary-stage support, local supply in this district is deep and well priced. We name those cases rather than arguing against every nearby alternative.

Two siblings, one evening, no second visit

Multi-child households are the norm here and apartment living makes a second visitor disruptive. Back-to-back online sessions with different specialists cost nobody any travel.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Hor Al Anz: your questions answered

Does a family in Al Qusais have an easier time finding an IB tutor than we do in Hor Al Anz?+

On parking and roads, yes - Al Qusais is the easiest of these four districts for a driver, and a visiting tutor loses five to ten minutes there against ten to fifteen on a Hor Al Anz street. On the actual question, no. IB programmes are about 7 per cent of Dubai's enrolment and concentrate away from Deira entirely, so the number of Higher Level specialists within reach is the same small number from either address. The parking advantage does not create tutors.

Will you send a tutor to our building in Hor Al Anz?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Hor Al Anz, in Dubai, or anywhere else in the UAE - a tutor attending a student's address is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. In-home tutoring does exist in this market at published rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price, and in a dense district the visit also costs ten to fifteen teaching minutes at the door.

How much of a paid hour does a visiting tutor actually teach on these streets?+

Forty-five to fifty minutes is realistic in Hor Al Anz, once street parking and settling are counted, and sometimes less in Deira proper. Al Qusais is better at around fifty-five. That moves the effective rate up by a fifth or more against the published figure of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, before any session is cancelled outright. Cancellations in this district fall disproportionately on appointments that depend on somebody else's drive and somebody else's parking space.

Which schools near Hor Al Anz actually run IB programmes?+

None in the district itself. The nearest provision is in Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City, roughly fifteen to thirty minutes away depending on the hour, with further IB continuum provision east in Mirdif. Everything else is a longer run towards Emirates Hills, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim, which is where most of the city's IB schools and IB-experienced teachers sit. Check programme authorisation on KHDA's own site rather than on reputation, because it changes between intakes.

Is there any case where the local option beats an online specialist for us?+

Two, and we would rather name them than argue against every alternative. Arabic as a first language: demand for that pathway is above the city average in this district and local supply is genuinely deep. And primary-stage support, where IB-specific expertise is not what is needed - the Primary Years Programme has no subject syllabus, and literacy, numeracy fluency and research habits are what actually help. In both cases a nearby tutor is often the better choice.

What exactly should I say when asking for an IB tutor?+

Three things: the programme, the subject and the level. Middle Years sciences, Standard Level Biology and Higher Level Chemistry are three different people, and only two of them are even in the same programme. Level matters more than families expect, because Higher Level adds depth woven through the content rather than a block at the end - so a tutor who has taught Standard Level thoroughly may be unable to handle the extension, and will discover that in week three.

Can one tutor support a Diploma student across all six subjects?+

No, and nobody can. The Diploma is six subjects from different groups at two levels plus three core components, each with its own assessment structure - the sciences investigation criteria, two separate mathematics courses, the English individual oral, a form of argument unique to Theory of Knowledge. What one person can usefully cover is the layer underneath: workload planning, criteria literacy, backwards planning from internal deadlines, revising against weightings. For a student who is drowning rather than failing, that is often the right purchase.

Does the metro make any real difference to tutoring here?+

It makes the single biggest practical difference in this catchment. A student who travels to school by metro and walks home from Abu Hail arrives predictably, usually by around 3.30pm, with little week-to-week variance, which makes a 4.30pm session genuinely viable. A student travelling by car from Al Garhoud faces a twenty-minute swing, which turns a 5pm booking into an unreliable one across a term. Reliability matters more than the hour itself, because an unreliable slot stops being planned around.

How do we fit two children's sessions into an apartment on the same evening?+

Back to back, online, which is the arrangement most multi-child households in this district end up with. Two sessions at 6.30pm and 7.45pm with different specialists if the subjects differ, no second visitor to admit or park, and no travel for anybody. The practical requirement is a quiet corner and headphones rather than two separate rooms. In-home visits for two children mean the travel component is paid twice and two arrival problems instead of one.

Why is Extended Essay help so hard to find at any price?+

Because supervising an essay is a different skill from teaching the subject it sits in, and far fewer people have it. The work is about question viability, scope, methodology and the assessment criteria rather than about content. The school supervisor is the primary route and should remain so. What an outside tutor adds is interrogating whether the research question can actually be answered within the word limit and the resources available, and commenting on a draft the student has written - never producing text.

Can a tutor look at an internal assessment the week before a school deadline?+

Only to a limited and legitimate extent, and we say so rather than taking a larger booking. Most internal assessment marks are decided at the design and planning stage - whether the question is answerable, whether the data supports analysis, whether reflection was written as the work developed. A week out, what remains is checking the student's own work for clarity against the published criteria. Anything beyond that crosses into producing assessed work, and the risk of that falls entirely on the candidate.

How do I check a tutor is allowed to teach privately here?+

Ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE's service page lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule, so treat quoted penalty figures as unverified.

Our neighbour's child is at a Sharjah school. Does that change anything for them?+

It changes the framework around them. Sharjah's private schools are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority rather than KHDA, and SPEA approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods - so curriculum and fee approval, not only inspection, sits with the emirate. Practically, border traffic makes an afternoon appointment unrealistic from here, which means an evening online session is effectively the only workable arrangement rather than merely the better one.

Suppose the Higher Level specialist we need is fully booked - what do you tell us?+

We say so rather than substituting someone approximate. Some combinations are genuinely thin - Higher Level physics or chemistry at short notice, Applications and Interpretation Higher Level statistics, a Group 2 language other than English or Arabic, or Extended Essay supervision. When that happens you get three straight answers: how long a match realistically takes, whether a closely related specialist can cover part of the need, and whether the school's own department is the better route for now.

Run the comparison, then set it aside

The comparison between Hor Al Anz, Al Mamzar, Abu Hail and Al Qusais is worth running. The streets differ, the parking differs, the metro access differs, and a visiting tutor loses a different number of minutes at each door. Then set it aside, because none of it changes how few people in this city teach Higher Level Diploma subjects or supervise an Extended Essay properly. Tell us the programme, the subject and the level, send a marked script, and ask us the coverage question before you pay anything. We do not visit homes in the UAE, and we would rather explain the arithmetic than pretend the question was not asked.
