IGCSE Home Tutor in Emirates Hills

Parents comparing an IGCSE home tutor in Emirates Hills with the options one community over usually find the same answer twice. Villa or apartment, Emirates Hills or The Greens, the thing that decides whether tutoring works is not the postcode but whether the tutor knows the exact specification your child sits. This page runs that comparison properly: six neighbouring communities, the boards their schools use, and why the conclusion holds either way. IB Gram delivers this as one-to-one online tuition, and the first lesson is free.

  • Tutors matched to the exact syllabus code, not to a neighbourhood
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel specifications treated as different courses
  • One-to-one lessons over live video; home visits are an India-only service
  • One free trial lesson, with no payment and no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in Emirates Hills

The comparison Emirates Living families actually run, and where it lands

A family in Emirates Hills weighing up IGCSE support almost always runs a comparison first, and it is rarely the comparison the search results expect. It is not agency against marketplace. It is this community against the one next door. A neighbour in The Meadows found someone good. A colleague in The Springs pays less. Somebody in The Greens says the apartment makes it difficult. Somebody in Jumeirah Park drives to a centre in Al Barsha. The question underneath all of it is whether where you live changes the answer.

It does change some things, and this page sets out exactly which. Housing type changes where a child can actually work without interruption. Distance to the school cluster changes when an afternoon session can start. The mix of schools nearby changes which examination board your child is most likely sitting, and therefore which specification a tutor needs to know. Local tutor density changes how many informal offers appear in a community group chat. Those are real differences and they are worth mapping.

What it does not change is the thing that decides whether IGCSE tutoring works. IGCSE is not one qualification. It is a set of specifications published by different boards, each with its own code, its own paper structure and its own practical arrangements. Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1 are different courses that happen to share a name in conversation. A tutor who knows one and assumes the other wastes your money in exactly the same way whether they do it in a villa in Emirates Hills or over video to an apartment in The Views.

So the comparison keeps landing in the same place, and the reason is arithmetic rather than preference. The pool of tutors who have taught a specific syllabus code to examination is a national or international pool, not a neighbourhood one. Restrict it to people who can reach a gated community set around a golf course before six in the evening and the pool becomes very small. Restrict it to people who can also teach the exact specification and it can empty entirely. Removing the travel requirement is what makes the match possible, which is why IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition over live video and does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE.

The phrase at the top of this page is the one parents type, and it is used honestly. What follows is the comparison in full: the six communities and what each does to the practicalities, the board-by-board differences that actually matter, the published dirham rates and why geography does not move them, how many subjects the UAE equivalency rule counts, how practical science works when lessons are online, and the permit question, whose answer is identical in every community on the list.

At a glance

  • Housing type and distance change the practicalities; the board changes the teaching
  • Cambridge and Pearson specifications for the same subject differ in code and papers
  • Published Dubai rates do not vary by community; the available format does
  • The UAE equivalency rule counts five IGCSE subjects, excluding Arabic and Islamic education
  • Home visits are an India-only service; UAE tuition is delivered over live video
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Before the comparison, it is worth being clear about what sits either side of IGCSE in this part of Dubai, because the next step shapes what the two years before sixteen should be building towards.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Two-year courses in individual subjects, each with its own specification and syllabus code, ending in terminal written examinations. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for candidates in the UAE, and the extra February sitting it also operates is offered to India only, so it is not a route from Dubai; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May or June and in November each year. Several subjects are tiered, which sets a grade ceiling at entry.

Around Emirates Living both boards are represented, sometimes within one school and occasionally within one department. Families comparing notes between communities often discover their children are sitting different specifications in the same subject, which is why a recommendation that worked for a neighbour may not transfer. Ask your school's examinations officer for the board and code in writing.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Standard or Higher Level plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Assessment combines external examinations with internally assessed components, and subject choice at sixteen is constrained by what was studied and achieved at IGCSE.

Several schools on the Emirates Living edge run the Diploma, which makes it the common next step for families in these communities. The IGCSE subjects that matter most for that route are mathematics and the sciences, where the step up in algebraic demand is the steepest. A student planning Higher Level sciences should be sitting Extended rather than Core.

ALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level and International A Level

Three or four subjects studied in depth over two years, with AS and A2 structures depending on the board and school. Cambridge International A Levels and Pearson Edexcel International A Levels both run in the UAE, and entry requirements are usually expressed as specific IGCSE grades in the subject.

The British-curriculum schools nearer The Springs and Jumeirah Park more often continue to A Level than to the Diploma. If that is the likely route, the IGCSE subject grades matter directly as entry conditions, so the comparison between Core and Extended entry in a subject your child wants to continue is worth having early.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

The Middle Years Programme alternative

Some schools on this side of Dubai run the IB Middle Years Programme instead of IGCSE for the two years before sixteen, assessing against four criteria per subject rather than against a specification with terminal papers. A few run both, with IGCSE entries alongside the Middle Years framework.

This is the sharpest difference between neighbouring communities in Emirates Living, because two children a few minutes apart can be assessed in completely different ways at fifteen. A tutor who is strong on criterion language is not automatically the right person for a syllabus code, and the reverse is equally true.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The list below names the IGCSE subjects Emirates Living families ask about most, with the board detail that actually changes the teaching. Use it to give a tutor a code rather than a subject name, because the code is what determines which papers your child will sit.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Cambridge 0580 splits into Core and Extended with different grade ceilings; Pearson 4MA1 splits into Foundation and Higher. Cambridge also offers International Mathematics 0607 and Additional Mathematics 0606. The tier decision sets a ceiling at entry, so the first question for any maths tutor is which tier your child is entered for.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Both cover forces, energy, waves, electricity and nuclear physics, and they differ in emphasis and in how practical skills are assessed. Cambridge candidates typically sit an alternative-to-practical paper or a practical test; Pearson assesses practical understanding within the written papers. Electricity is the topic most often named in requests from this part of Dubai.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Moles and stoichiometry, bonding, energetics, rates, organic chemistry and qualitative analysis. The reliable losses are mole arithmetic under pressure and the qualitative analysis observations, which students revise last. Specification wording differs enough between the two boards that practising the wrong board's past papers wastes effort.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Cells, transport, respiration, genetics, ecology and human physiology. Marks are lost to imprecision rather than ignorance: naming a process without naming the structure, or describing where the question says explain. Command-term work against the correct board's mark schemes moves marks faster than rereading content.

Co-ordinated and double award sciences

Cambridge 0654 and 0653; Pearson 4SD0

Combined routes giving one or two grades across all three sciences rather than three separate ones. Content is reduced in breadth rather than in difficulty, and families frequently do not know which route their child is on. It matters, because the papers and the available grades differ from the separate sciences.

English as a First Language and Literature

Cambridge 0500 and 0475; Pearson equivalents

Reading response, directed writing, composition and, in literature, set texts with timed essays. Strong readers lose marks on structure and on answering the question asked rather than the one they prepared. This is one of the few subjects where tutoring transfers cleanly between boards, because the underlying skills are the same.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and equivalents

Reading, writing, listening and speaking components with a tightly specified task format. Students who speak fluent English still lose marks by not matching the register, audience and purpose named in the prompt. Format training is quick and produces a disproportionate improvement, which makes it good value in a short block.

Business Studies and Economics

Cambridge 0450 and 0455; Pearson 4BS1 and 4EC1

Case-study based papers where application to the named business or economy carries the marks. Generic answers that would fit any company score poorly however accurate the theory. Evaluation that reaches a judgement rather than listing both sides is the specific skill, and it is teachable in a handful of sessions.

Arabic

Cambridge 0508 first language and 0544 foreign language

Two quite different qualifications, and the placement is the school's decision. Separately, Arabic is also a mandatory subject in Dubai private schools regardless of curriculum, taught under KHDA requirements, so a child may be sitting an IGCSE Arabic paper and following a mandatory Arabic programme at once.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417; Pearson 4CP0 and 4IT1

Algorithms, programming, data representation and systems, with practical components in some specifications. The two boards differ substantially here in both content and assessment, more than in most subjects, so the code genuinely determines what a tutor should be teaching.

Geography and History

Cambridge 0460 and 0470; Pearson 4GE1 and 4HI1

Case studies, source work and structured extended answers. In history the discriminating skill is source evaluation; in geography it is applying a named case study precisely rather than generally. Both reward a clear answer structure, and both punish students who write everything they know about the topic.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are realistically open to a family in any of these communities, and the choice between them is driven by what the subject needs rather than by the address. All three run online over live video with a shared annotated workspace.

Weekly one-to-one on one specification

A fixed weekly slot built around your child's exact syllabus code, using that board's past papers and mark schemes rather than a generic workbook. The tutor reads the week's marked work first and rebuilds the step that failed, which is a different activity from reteaching the topic.

  • The board and code confirmed before the first session
  • Past questions drawn from the correct specification only
  • Annotated solutions saved and sent after each session
  • Marked work read before the answer is discussed

Short specification-bridging blocks

Used when a child has changed school or board mid-course, which happens often in these communities. A short block maps what the new specification requires against what the old one covered, then fills the gaps, rather than starting the subject again from the beginning.

  • A written list of content the new code expects and the old one omitted
  • Paper format differences taught explicitly
  • Command-term and mark-scheme differences between boards
  • Ends when the gap list is closed, not after a fixed term

Two children, one household, separate slots

Common across every community in this comparison and more complicated than it sounds, because siblings are often on different boards or different frameworks. Separate specialists in separate slots works; one tutor covering both usually does not unless the codes genuinely match.

  • Each child matched to their own specification
  • Slots staggered so one quiet room can serve both
  • Shared progress review so the household sees one picture
  • Honest advice when one tutor genuinely can cover both

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Emirates Hills

01

Six communities compared on what actually affects IGCSE support

Run the comparison on the four things that genuinely differ and it becomes short. Housing type, which decides whether a child has a door that closes. Distance and approach to the school cluster, which decides when an afternoon session can start. The board mix in the nearby schools, which decides which specification is most likely. And local tutor density, which decides how many informal offers circulate in a community group.

Emirates Hills scores well on space and poorly on access. A large villa usually has a room that can be a study room, which removes a problem that apartment families have to solve. The gated approach and the community road network mean a visiting tutor's door-to-door time is longer than the map suggests, and gate queues at the end of the school day are not predictable. The Meadows and The Lakes sit close to the same schools with slightly shorter approaches. The Springs has a different school mix, weighted more towards British-curriculum places.

The Greens and The Views invert the picture. Access is easier and the study space is harder: a shared bedroom, a sibling at home and an open-plan living area all affect whether an hour is usable. The single most valuable thing an apartment family can do before booking anything is establish where the session will happen and who else will be in the room, because a tutor cannot fix an interrupted hour. Jumeirah Park and Jumeirah Village have the widest board mix and the most local informal offers, which is a mixed blessing covered later on this page.

Put them side by side and the pattern is clear. The practicalities differ by community and all of them are solvable. The thing that is not solvable by moving house is whether a tutor knows the specification. That is why the comparison lands in the same place from every address in the table below.

EMIRATES HILLS AGAINST THE NEIGHBOURING COMMUNITIES - WHAT GENUINELY DIFFERS FOR IGCSE SUPPORT

02

Why the comparison keeps producing the same answer

Having mapped the differences, it is worth being explicit about why they do not change the conclusion. The reason is that the thing you are shopping for is not a person who lives nearby. It is a person who has taught your child's exact specification to examination and can therefore read a marked paper and say which mark scheme line was missed.

That pool is organised by syllabus code, not by geography. Think about how small it becomes when you add conditions. Start with tutors who have taught Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 to examination, which is already a specialist subset. Add those available at a workable evening hour in Gulf Standard Time. Add those willing and able to travel into a gated villa community and still teach a useful hour, which means leaving wherever they are at least forty minutes early and returning in the dark. The last condition is the one that empties the list.

Remove that condition and the first two are satisfiable in a normal week. This is not a clever argument for a format we happen to sell; it is the reason the format exists. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, because the honest version of a visiting service in this market would be a promise to send whoever is nearby rather than whoever knows the specification. Visiting tuition is a service we run only in India, where the density and the geography are different.

There is a second, smaller reason the answer is the same in every community, and it is about what IGCSE work actually looks like. Most of it is paper: a past question, a mark scheme, a marked script, a diagram. Photographed and annotated on a shared screen, that work is at least as effective as it is across a kitchen table, and it leaves a saved record the student can reuse. The exception is practical science, which belongs in the school laboratory and is addressed later on this page.

03

Cambridge against Pearson Edexcel for the same subject

Here is the detail that makes the specification question concrete, and it is the single most useful thing on this page for a family in any of these communities. Two children can both be sitting IGCSE Physics and be sitting different courses, with different codes, different paper structures and different practical arrangements. A tutor who assumes the wrong one will set the wrong past papers for a year.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series. Its Checkpoint tests run in March, May and October, and those are Primary and Lower Secondary tests rather than an IGCSE sitting; the extra February window some sources mention is offered to India only, so a candidate in Emirates Hills has June and November and nothing else. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May or June and in November each year, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

The practical science arrangements differ most and matter most to parents. Cambridge science candidates typically meet practical skills through an alternative-to-practical written paper or a practical test, depending on the school's entry. Pearson assesses practical understanding within the written papers. Either way, the examined skill is interpreting and evaluating experiments rather than performing them under examination conditions, which is why online tuition can prepare it properly.

Tiering is the other place the boards diverge in wording. Cambridge 0580 Mathematics splits into Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 splits into Foundation and Higher. Several science specifications offer Core and Extended routes, and the co-ordinated and double award options give one or two grades across all three sciences rather than three separate grades. Each of those decisions carries a grade ceiling, and each is made by the school, usually earlier than families expect. Ask the examinations officer for the board, the code and the tier in writing, and keep the reply.

04

The villa and the apartment: solving the study space before the first lesson

This is the one part of the comparison where the community genuinely decides the outcome, and it gets almost no attention in tutoring advice. An hour of IGCSE work needs a surface, a closing door, a charger and nobody else in the room. In an Emirates Hills or Meadows villa that is usually available and the family has already solved it without thinking about it. In an apartment in The Greens or The Views it has to be decided.

The specific failure is interruption rather than noise. A tutor can work through background sound. What cannot be worked through is a student who stops mid-explanation four times an hour, because the thread of a multi-step problem does not survive that. If the only workable space is a shared living area, the honest fix is to move the session to a time when the room is empty, which often means earlier than the family would prefer or at a weekend.

A second apartment-specific point concerns siblings. Two children in a two-bedroom apartment cannot both have a lesson at the same time, so the slots have to be staggered, and staggering is easier when both sessions are online and neither depends on a visitor's route between two addresses. Families with children on different boards, which is common across every community in this comparison, need two specialists anyway, so staggering is the only arrangement that works.

Villa households have a different problem, which is that space makes it easy to be casual. A session at the kitchen island with a phone face-up and a sibling passing through is not better than an apartment session behind a closed door. The checkable standard is the same in every community: a surface, a door, no phone, and nobody else in the room for the hour. Set that up before the free trial so that the trial tests the tutor rather than the room.

05

Published rates are the same in every community; only the format changes

Families comparing notes between communities often conclude that one neighbourhood pays more than another. The published figures do not support that. Dubai providers publish one rate card for the emirate, and what differs between The Greens and Emirates Hills is not the price of an hour but which formats are practical to buy. Here are the figures, each attributed to the provider that published it and read in October 2026.

Cheapest first, because that is where most comparisons start. Tutopiya publishes from roughly AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, both buying a general tutor rather than a specification specialist. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase lists AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts IB, IGCSE and A Level specialist work at AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED's premium named tutors at AED 650. Visiting tuition is published at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by home tutors generally, with travel inside the figure.

Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240 to 600 for a weekly budget hour, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist examination-year work. Packages seen in the market sit around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visiting sessions. None of these is an IB Gram price list; our own rate depends on the subject, the level and what the brief needs, and the free trial is how you judge an hour before paying for one.

What does vary by community is which of those rows is realistically available. In a gated villa community the visiting option exists at the published premium but with a narrow choice of tutor. In an apartment community a tuition centre group class in Al Barsha is an easier drive, which lowers the per-student cost and adds a journey. Online is identical from every address on the list, at the same rate, with the same choice of specialist, which is the practical reason the comparison keeps collapsing to one answer.

06

How many IGCSE subjects, and the equivalency count that decides it

Across every community in this comparison, the question of how many subjects a child should take comes up in Year 9 and is usually answered by the school. There is a published rule worth knowing before that conversation, because it sets a floor that has nothing to do with school advice.

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must also submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That last clause is the one families miss, because it means a child taking Arabic and Islamic education plus four others does not meet the count.

It is worth saying that at least one ranking competitor page in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. That is not what the published requirement says. The published rule is five accredited subjects at E or grade 3 excluding Arabic and Islamic education, and a parent who plans around six because a tutoring website said so is planning around an error. Verify it on the Ministry's own channel before making a subject decision.

The American track has separate thresholds: English proficiency via a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics via at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB, no points figure appears in the source we have read, so this page publishes none. Equivalency is a Ministry process that IB Gram does not perform, expedite or guarantee, and no tutoring is required for it; we describe it and point you to the official channel.

07

Practical science when the lessons are online

This is the objection that comes up in every community on the list and it deserves a straight answer rather than reassurance. If lessons are delivered over video, what happens to the practical side of IGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics? The answer has two parts, and the first is about what the examination actually assesses.

Cambridge science candidates typically meet practical skills through an alternative-to-practical written paper or a practical test, depending on the school's entry, and Pearson assesses practical understanding inside the written papers. In both cases the examined skill is reading a method, identifying variables, spotting a flaw, reading a scale correctly, processing results and evaluating a procedure. None of that requires the student to hold apparatus during the paper. It requires them to have thought carefully about apparatus, which is a trainable analytical skill.

So an online session prepares the examined component well: a method on screen, the student annotating what is wrong with it, a results table processed in a spreadsheet, a graph drawn and criticised, a mark scheme checked line by line. What online tuition does not and should not replace is the hands-on laboratory work the school provides, which exists for the learning rather than for the paper. A tutor who implies otherwise is overselling, and a tutor who says the laboratory is the school's job is telling you the truth.

One related boundary. We do not supply past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents or grade-boundary tables, because those are the boards' copyright material. A tutor should reference them and link to the official source, which also keeps you on the current version rather than a copy of uncertain date. Anyone offering to sell you a bundle of board material is selling something they do not have the right to distribute.

08

The permit question, whose answer is the same in every community

Informal local arrangements are more common in some of these communities than others, and the question that follows is identical everywhere. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years.

The eligible categories are broad, which is why most people offering tutoring can hold one: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system, with no fee stated and a two-working-day completion time. Because it is free and quick, there is no good reason for a tutor not to hold one.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are, in the government's own words, subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts has been published, so any page quoting you a figure is quoting something unverified. Ask the question before money changes hands, in every community, at every price point. There is a second rule worth knowing: Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school.

A separate matter is an operation with premises and staff, which needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no premises in the UAE, and is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. We are an independent tutor-matching platform, and that is a more useful thing to know than a badge nobody can check.

09

Starting, from whichever side of the comparison you are on

The first step is the same from every address on this page and it is not about tutoring. Get three facts from the school in writing: the board, the syllabus code and the tier or route for each subject you are considering support in. Without those three, any tutor is guessing, and a guess in this market means a year of practice on the wrong board's past papers.

Then send a brief that a specialist can act on: the subject, the board and code, the year group, the school, the topic or paper where marks are going, and two windows that work in your week. Add photographs of the last two marked assessments with the teacher's annotations visible. A tutor who reads those before the trial can name the problem in the first ten minutes, which is the whole point of sending them.

The free trial lesson then runs in full, online, with no payment and no card details. Use it to test two things. Does the tutor work from your child's own marked script and the correct board's mark scheme, or from generic material? And does your child speak during the hour? Ask the tutor to state which paper or topic they would target first and why. A specification specialist answers that immediately; a general tutor talks about confidence.

Finally, the honest limit. If no specialist for your exact code is free in your window, we say so and offer an alternative time, a date, or a tutor from the other board who will state plainly what they will have to check. We will not put a general tutor into a specification brief, because that is the one thing this whole comparison was designed to avoid. Review the arrangement every four to six weeks against marked work rather than against how the sessions felt, and change it when the evidence says to.

Where we tutor

Emirates Hills against the communities next door

This is the comparison itself. Each entry names what is genuinely different about that community for IGCSE support, and nothing is included that would be equally true of anywhere else in Dubai.

Emirates Hills

Large villas around a golf course, reached through community roads with their own speed limits and gate queues. Space for a dedicated study room is the advantage; a visiting tutor's door-to-door time being longer than the distance suggests is the cost, which narrows the pool of people who can arrive before six.

The Meadows

Villas sharing the Emirates Living school edge, so the school options and the internal deadline weeks are nearly identical to Emirates Hills. The difference is a shorter approach from Sheikh Zayed Road, which makes an earlier afternoon session slightly more realistic for a child who travels by car rather than bus.

The Springs

Smaller villas and townhouses with a higher proportion of British-curriculum school places nearby, so a larger share of students here are sitting Cambridge or Pearson specifications rather than Middle Years criteria. That makes recommendations more transferable between Springs families than between Springs and Emirates Hills families.

The Lakes

Compact, gated, and the closest of the villa communities to the Emirates Hills school edge. The practical difference is scale: fewer households means fewer informal tutor offers circulating locally, so families here reach a syllabus-specific specialist faster by searching rather than asking around.

The Greens and The Views

Apartment communities across Sheikh Zayed Road. The study-space question is the real difference: a shared room, a sibling at home and a lift lobby all affect whether a session is usable. A door that closes matters more here than anywhere else in this comparison, and it is worth solving before the first lesson.

Jumeirah Park and Jumeirah Village

Villas and townhouses further inland with a wider mix of schools and boards, including Indian-curriculum provision. The highest density of informal local tutor offers in this corridor sits here, which makes the permit question more pressing rather than less.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Not residential comparison so much as destination: the largest school cluster in Dubai and the densest supply of tuition centres. Families from every community on this list drive here for group classes, which is cheaper per student and adds an evening car journey in both directions.

Dubai Hills and Al Quoz

A newer cluster across Al Khail Road, growing with the sector. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, and some of that capacity sits on this side of the comparison.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Emirates Hills

Schools on the Emirates Living edge, serving every community in this comparison

These schools draw from Emirates Hills, The Meadows, The Springs, The Lakes and The Greens alike, which is why the communities share deadline weeks and compete for the same evening slots. Boards differ between them, so the school matters more than the address. Students we support attend schools in this group; no affiliation is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the board, the code and the tier in writing

Ask the examinations officer or the subject teacher for all three, per subject, and keep the reply. This is the single highest-value thing you can do before spending anything, because it is what separates a tutor working on your child's paper from a tutor working on a similar one.

  2. 02

Solve the room before you book

Decide where the session will happen and who else will be in it. A surface, a closing door, a charger and nobody passing through. Villa or apartment, the standard is the same. Set this up before the trial so the trial tests the tutor rather than the household.

  3. 03

Send a brief a specialist can act on

Subject, board and code, year group, school, the topic or paper where marks are going, and two realistic windows. Attach the last two marked assessments with annotations visible. Phone photographs are fine and they do more for the first session than any description.

  4. 04

Use the free trial to test method

A full lesson online, no payment, no card details. Ask the tutor which paper or topic they would target first and why. Watch whether they use your child's marked script and the correct board's mark scheme. A specification specialist answers at once; a generalist talks about confidence.

  5. 05

Stagger siblings rather than combining them

Children in these communities are frequently on different boards or different frameworks, so one tutor covering both usually means one of them gets the wrong specification. Separate specialists in staggered slots works, and it also solves the single-quiet-room problem in an apartment.

  6. 06

Review against marked work every six weeks

Check whether the named losses have stopped appearing in the school's own marking. If they have, move the focus. If six weeks have produced no change, change the approach or the tutor rather than renewing by default, in any community and at any price point.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the syllabus code

Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 are different courses that share a name in conversation. We match on the code your child is entered for, because a year of practice on the wrong board's past papers is the most expensive mistake available in this market and it is entirely avoidable.

Geography stops being a constraint

Add the requirement that a tutor can reach a gated villa community before six and still teach a useful hour, and the pool of specification specialists can empty. Removing that condition is what makes the match possible, which is why tuition here is delivered one to one over live video.

Rates you can check, not a benchmark

Every dirham figure on this page names the provider that published it and the month it was read. Dubai providers publish one rate card for the emirate, so what differs between communities is which formats are practical to buy rather than what an hour costs.

Honest about the laboratory

Online sessions prepare the examined practical skills properly: method criticism, variables, data processing, graphs, mark-scheme discipline. They do not replace the hands-on laboratory work the school provides, and any provider implying otherwise is overselling.

No board material resold

We do not supply past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents or grade-boundary tables, because they belong to the boards. A tutor references them and links to the official page, which also keeps you on the current version rather than a copy of unknown date.

A clear no when the code is not covered

If no specialist for your exact specification is free in your window, we say so and offer an alternative time or a tutor who will state what they need to check. We will not put a general tutor into a specification brief, which is the whole point of running the comparison in the first place.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Emirates Hills: your questions answered

Does living in Emirates Hills rather than The Greens change what IGCSE support we should buy?+

It changes the practicalities and not the conclusion. A villa usually solves the study space without anyone thinking about it, while an apartment family has to decide where the session happens and who else will be in the room. Access works the other way: the gated approach into Emirates Hills makes a visiting tutor's door-to-door time longer than the distance suggests. Neither difference touches the thing that decides whether tutoring works, which is whether the tutor knows your child's exact specification.

How do I find out which exam board my child's school uses for each subject?+

Ask the examinations officer or the subject teacher for three facts in writing, per subject: the board, the syllabus code and the tier or route. Schools provide this readily and it is the most valuable information you can gather before spending anything. Two children in neighbouring villas in these communities often sit different specifications in the same subject, and a tutor working from the wrong code will set the wrong past papers for a year without either of you noticing until a mock.

Are Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE interchangeable?+

No. They are separate specifications with separate codes, different paper structures and different practical arrangements. Cambridge Physics is 0625 and Pearson is 4PH1; chemistry is 0620 against 4CH1; mathematics is 0580 with Core and Extended tiers against 4MA1 with Foundation and Higher. Content overlaps substantially, which is why the difference is easy to miss, but specification wording, emphasis and assessment differ enough that practising the wrong board's papers wastes effort. Confirm the current specification on the board's own site.

My neighbour's tutor was excellent. Why might that not transfer to us?+

Most often because the children are on different specifications or different frameworks entirely. Around Emirates Living some schools run Cambridge, some run Pearson, some run the IB Middle Years Programme and a few run combinations, so a tutor who was ideal for a neighbour may be learning your child's course from scratch. The recommendation is still worth having; just check the board and code match before assuming it carries over, and ask the tutor directly which specifications they have taught to examination.

Do tutors visit homes in Emirates Hills or The Meadows?+

IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition over live video and does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; visiting tuition is a service we run only in India. The market does offer visiting tutors at published rates of AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by home tutors generally, with travel inside the figure. The practical cost is not the premium but the narrowing of choice: only tutors who can complete the journey into a gated community and still teach a useful hour are available to you.

How do science practicals work if IGCSE lessons are online?+

The examined skill is analytical rather than manual. Cambridge candidates typically meet practical work through an alternative-to-practical written paper or a practical test depending on the school's entry, and Pearson assesses practical understanding inside the written papers. Either way the paper asks the student to read a method, identify variables, spot flaws, process results and evaluate a procedure, all of which prepare well on a shared screen with a spreadsheet and a mark scheme. The hands-on laboratory work remains the school's job and should.

How many IGCSE subjects does my child actually need?+

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, the published rule is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. At least one ranking competitor page states six subjects are required, which is not what the published requirement says. Verify it on the Ministry's own channel before deciding.

Is a tuition centre group class in Al Barsha better value than online one-to-one?+

Cheaper per student and reasonable for content and pace, which is a real benefit. What it cannot do is diagnose your child's marked paper, because eight students cannot each have their script read inside an hour. Add the evening car journey in both directions from Emirates Living, which is easier from the apartment communities than from the villas. A common compromise is group classes for content plus a short private block on the one or two components actually losing marks.

Someone in our community offers IGCSE tutoring cheaply. What should I check?+

Whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Because it is free and takes two working days through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system, there is no good reason for a tutor not to hold one, and individuals tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Also ask which board and code they have taught, because a low rate for the wrong specification is not a saving.

Can one tutor cover two children in our household?+

Only if the specifications genuinely match, which in these communities they often do not. Siblings here are frequently on different boards, or one is on a Cambridge specification while the other is assessed against Middle Years criteria. Separate specialists in staggered slots works better and also solves the single-quiet-room problem in an apartment. Where one tutor can honestly cover both, we will say so; where they cannot, combining the two is a saving that costs a grade.

What should an apartment family in The Views sort out before the first lesson?+

The room. An hour needs a surface, a closing door, a charger and nobody else present. The failure mode is interruption rather than noise: a tutor can work through background sound, but a multi-step problem does not survive a student stopping four times an hour. If the only workable space is a shared living area, move the session to a time when the room is empty, which often means earlier in the evening or a weekend morning. Sort this before the trial so the trial tests the tutor.

Do IGCSE tutoring rates differ between Emirates Hills and the cheaper communities nearby?+

The published rates do not. Dubai providers publish one rate card for the emirate: Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52 an hour, EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, Unitors IGCSE from AED 150, TutorChase AED 270, and Bestimate's 2026 table placing specialist IGCSE and IB work at AED 200 to 450 and above, with visiting tuition at AED 180 to 500. Those were read in October 2026 and belong to those providers. What varies by community is which of those formats is practical to buy, not the hourly figure.

My child changed school mid-course and the board changed too. What now?+

A short bridging block, not a restart. The first job is a written list of what the new specification expects that the old one did not cover, which a tutor who knows both codes can produce in a session. Then the paper format differences, the command-term differences and the mark-scheme conventions, which are often the larger shock. This happens regularly across these communities and it is a bounded piece of work, usually a handful of sessions rather than a term.

Will you supply past papers and mark schemes for our board?+

No, and no tutoring service should. Past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables are the examination boards' copyright material, and distributing them is not something a tutor has the right to do. A tutor should reference them and link to the official page on the board's own site, which has the additional benefit of keeping you on the current version rather than a copy of unknown date. Anyone selling a bundle of board material is selling what they do not own.

When does the Core or Extended decision stop being reversible?+

That depends on your school rather than on the board, which is why it has to be asked locally. Tier entry is made by the school and submitted with the examination entry, and the practical deadline is therefore the entry deadline rather than the examination. Published board calendars show how early that sits: the Pearson International GCSE November 2026 timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and the entry deadline for it had passed well before the autumn term's mock marks existed. Cambridge works the same way, with June entries closing in the spring, several months ahead of the first paper. Ask your examinations officer for your own entry date and the school's internal cut-off for tier changes.

How do we start if we are in The Springs rather than Emirates Hills?+

Identically, because the process is address-independent. Get the board, code and tier in writing from the school. Decide where the session will happen. Send the subject, code, year group, school, the paper or topic where marks are going, and two realistic windows, with photographs of the last two marked assessments attached. We match a specialist for that specification and the trial lesson runs in full online with no payment and no card details taken.

Same answer from either side of the road

If you have been comparing an IGCSE home tutor in Emirates Hills with what families in The Meadows, The Springs or The Greens are doing, the comparison is worth running and it lands in one place. The practicalities differ by community and all of them are fixable; what no address can fix is whether the tutor knows your child's specification. So get the board, the code and the tier from the school, send them with the marked work and two realistic windows, and we will match a specialist for that exact paper. The first lesson is free, and tuition is delivered one to one over live video.
