IGCSE Home Tutor in Dubai International Academic City

An IGCSE home tutor in Dubai International Academic City is usually wanted for one reason: a Year 10 or Year 11 report has gone sideways in a named subject, and the family wants syllabus-level help rather than general study skills. This page is built around the syllabus itself - paper structures, codes, Core and Extended tiering, and the mark-scheme traps students in Academic City keep falling into. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

What an IGCSE tutor in Academic City is actually being asked to fix

Start with the syllabus code, because that is where most of the wasted money in this market goes. 'IGCSE Maths' is not one qualification. Cambridge runs Mathematics 0580, and the 9-1 graded version 0980, with Core and Extended tiers that sit different papers. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE Mathematics Specification A, 4MA1, with Foundation and Higher tiers, and Specification B, 4MB1, which is a different beast again. A tutor who knows one and not the other will teach content your child does not sit and skip content they do.

The same applies across the sciences. Cambridge Physics is 0625 with an alternative-to-practical option; Chemistry 0620; Biology 0610; Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 as a double award. Pearson's equivalents are 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1 and the Science Double Award 4SC1. The content overlaps substantially and the assessment does not. Pearson Physics has no practical examination and assesses experimental skills within the written papers; Cambridge offers a practical paper or the alternative-to-practical, and which one your child sits is the school's decision, not yours.

So the first thing to establish, before any tutoring is booked, is which specification your child's school entered them for. Dubai English Speaking College sits inside Academic City and runs the British route; across the road in Silicon Oasis, GEMS Wellington Academy and other schools in this cluster make their own board choices subject by subject. It is common for a single student to sit Cambridge in one subject and Edexcel in another. Ask the examinations officer for the syllabus codes in writing and bring that list to the first session.

IB Gram delivers this tutoring online, one-to-one, over live video. We do not send tutors to homes in the UAE - that is an India-only service - and the phrase in this page's title is the phrase parents search rather than a promise to drive to Al Ruwayyah. The practical gain is that the tutor can be the person who teaches 4MA1 Higher routinely, rather than whoever lives near Dragon Mart and remembers GCSE maths.

There is a second reason the code matters in this specific district. Academic City sits behind the university campuses off Al Ain Road, and the pool of adults within a twenty-minute drive who teach a named international specification routinely is small. A tutor who lives near Dragon Mart and once taught GCSE in the United Kingdom is not a tutor who knows what the Pearson 4CH1 mark scheme rewards on an electrolysis question. Proximity is a weak filter on exactly the quality that decides the grade, which is why removing travel from the matching decision widens rather than narrows the choice.

The rest of this page is syllabus-first. Paper structures with weightings. Core against Extended, with what the tier ceiling actually means for a university application later. Cambridge against Edexcel in the same subject. The specific places marks go missing, subject by subject. The June and November series counted backwards. And the Ministry of Education equivalency rule that decides how many of these subjects your child actually needs to pass.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE is the middle of a longer route, and the tutoring question changes depending on which part of it your child is in. These are the three stages Academic City families book help for.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 into IGCSE

The two years before the IGCSE course starts are where the algebra and written-English foundations are either built or left incomplete. Nothing is externally examined, so weakness is invisible until Year 10. The specific gaps that cause trouble later are negative-number manipulation, fraction arithmetic without a calculator, rearranging formulae, and writing a paragraph that answers the question asked.

In this cluster the Year 9 option choices matter more than parents expect, because they determine whether a child enters Core or Extended tier in mathematics and whether they take three separate sciences or a co-ordinated double award. Those choices cap the achievable grade. Ask the school at the Year 9 parents' evening which tier they intend to enter your child for, and what would change their mind.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE, Years 10 and 11

A two-year course per subject, externally examined at the end, usually across two or three papers. Cambridge grades on A*-G or 9-1 depending on the syllabus variant; Pearson grades 9-1. Tiering decides the grade ceiling: Cambridge Core caps at C or grade 5, Extended runs the full range; Pearson Foundation caps at grade 5, Higher runs to 9.

Year 10 is the cheaper year to buy tutoring in and the one families skip. By the February of Year 11 the content is nearly complete and the work becomes past-paper technique under time pressure, which is useful but cannot rebuild a missing topic. Academic City families who start in the first term of Year 10 typically buy fewer total hours than those who start after the Year 11 mocks.

ALEVELAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IGCSE into A Level or the IB Diploma

The step up is steeper in mathematics and the sciences than in anything else. A Level Mathematics assumes the Extended tier content as automatic, and the IB Diploma's Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches assumes it too. Students who scraped a 6 by relying on calculator methods find the first term of Year 12 brutal, because the new content arrives faster than the old content can be repaired.

In Academic City the route splits visibly: Dubai English Speaking College continues to A Level on site, while families wanting the IB Diploma move towards Silicon Oasis, Mirdif or Nad Al Sheba. Either way, a short bridging block of tutoring in the summer between Year 11 and Year 12 is the highest-value tuition most of these families ever buy.

RESITAges 15-18

November resit route

A subject taken again in the November series, either because a grade was below a sixth-form entry requirement or because a paper went wrong. Cambridge and Pearson both run November sessions, so the gap is roughly five months rather than a full year. Entry is through a school or an approved centre, and the registration deadline sits months before the exam itself.

For a resit, the first job is a forensic one: get the component-level breakdown from the school rather than only the overall grade. A grade 5 built on a strong Paper 1 and a collapsed Paper 2 needs completely different work from a grade 5 that was uniformly weak. That breakdown decides the entire plan, and most families have never asked for it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each entry below names the syllabus code, what the papers actually demand, and the specific place marks go missing. That is the level at which an IGCSE tutor earns their fee.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / 0980)

Core and Extended

Two papers, non-calculator and calculator depending on variant. Extended adds functions, calculus-adjacent gradient work, vectors, matrices and harder trigonometry. Marks go missing on method: answers given without working score a fraction of the available marks, and rounding too early in multi-step problems loses accuracy marks throughout.

Mathematics A (Pearson 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

Two papers of equal weight, both calculator permitted. Higher tier ceiling is grade 9, Foundation caps at 5. The style is more procedural than Cambridge and rewards fluent algebraic manipulation. The common loss is in the extended multi-mark problems at the end of each paper, which students routinely leave blank rather than attempting partially.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended / Foundation and Higher

Electricity and electromagnetism carry the heaviest mark load and produce the most confusion. Cambridge offers a practical paper or the alternative-to-practical; Pearson assesses experimental skills inside the written papers. Marks go on equation selection and unit handling rather than arithmetic, and on explanations that describe instead of explaining.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended / Foundation and Higher

Moles calculations, electrolysis and organic chemistry are the three reliable mark-losers. Students who can recite the reactivity series still cannot write a balanced ionic equation under time pressure. Practical questions on separation techniques and gas tests reward specific vocabulary, and vague answers earn nothing even when the chemistry is understood.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended / Foundation and Higher

The content volume is the problem, not the difficulty. Marks are lost on command terms: 'describe' and 'explain' carry different mark allocations and students answer both the same way. Data and graph questions reward reading the axes first, and genetics questions reward drawing the cross out rather than attempting it mentally.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award

Three sciences compressed into the equivalent of two subjects, assessed across combined papers. The trap is assuming it is easier: the content is reduced but the examination still moves between biology, chemistry and physics within a single paper, and students lose time re-orienting. Tutoring works best organised by paper section rather than by subject.

English Language (Cambridge 0500 / Pearson 4EA1)

First language

Directed writing, composition and reading response. Marks are lost on form: a student who writes a good essay when a letter was asked for forfeits the whole form mark band. Reading questions reward selecting and using quotation economically, and the most common error is copying long stretches of the passage instead of analysing a phrase.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

Reading, writing, listening and, in 0511, a speaking component. The paper rewards accuracy over ambition: controlled, correct sentences score better than complex attempts with errors. Note-taking and summary tasks are the most teachable components and the ones where the fastest grade movement happens.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450) and Economics (0455)

IGCSE

Both reward application to the case material in front of the student and both punish generic answers. In Economics, diagrams must be labelled, titled and referred to in the prose to earn marks. In Business Studies, the higher mark bands require a judgement with justification, not a list of advantages and disadvantages.

Geography (0460) and History (0470)

IGCSE

Both are source-and-structure subjects. Geography marks go missing on case-study specificity - a named place, a figure, a date - and on skills questions involving graphs and maps. History marks go on source evaluation that comments on provenance rather than content, which is a technique rather than knowledge and can be taught quickly.

Computer Science (0478) and ICT (0417)

IGCSE

Computer Science combines theory with a pseudocode and programming component where students lose marks on trace tables and on writing algorithms that do not handle edge cases. ICT is practical-assessment heavy and the loss is almost always procedural: steps omitted, evidence not captured, file naming conventions ignored.

Additional Mathematics and the A Level bridge

Post-IGCSE

A short bridging programme rather than an examined subject for most students here: indices and surds, algebraic fractions, function notation, basic differentiation and the trigonometric identities A Level and IB Diploma mathematics assume from day one. Six to eight sessions in the summer after Year 11 removes most of the first-term shock.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways IGCSE tutoring is actually bought in this cluster, plus an honest note on the in-home option the market offers and we do not.

Weekly syllabus-aligned sessions

One 60-minute session a week per subject, following the school's own scheme of work so the tutoring sits a step behind the class rather than running a parallel course. The tutor works from the student's marked exercise book and the published syllabus for that exact code, which is how a gap gets found before it becomes a topic-sized hole.

  • Keyed to the specific syllabus code, Cambridge or Pearson
  • Driven by the student's own marked class work
  • Same tutor weekly, so diagnosis is cumulative
  • Scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around the school run

Past-paper and mark-scheme blocks

A finite run of sessions in which the student sits questions under timed conditions and then works through the published mark scheme line by line with the tutor. This is the fastest route to recovering marks in Year 11, because most lost marks are technique rather than knowledge: wrong command-term response, no working shown, premature rounding, a form error in an English task.

  • Timed question sets by topic, then full papers
  • Mark scheme walked through, not just a score given
  • Error log maintained so the same mistake is not re-taught
  • We cite and link official papers rather than supplying copies

November resit and component repair

Built around the component-level breakdown from the school rather than the overall grade. If Paper 2 collapsed and Paper 1 held, the plan addresses Paper 2's question types specifically. Because Cambridge and Pearson both run November series, the turnaround from a June result is roughly five months, and entry deadlines sit months before the exam.

  • Starts from the component breakdown, not the grade
  • Entry is arranged through the school or an approved centre
  • Plan is written backwards from the registration deadline
  • Honest statement of what the available weeks can achieve

In-home tutoring in this market, and our position on it

Dubai does have tutors who travel. Published in-home one-to-one rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, per Bestimate's 2026 table and advertised home-tutor rates. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. For an IGCSE student the trade is particularly stark, because board-specific expertise matters more than proximity.

  • No IB Gram tutor travels to an address in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE
  • The in-home travel premium is roughly AED 50-150 an hour
  • A nearby tutor may know GCSE rather than the specific international specification
  • Online matching is by syllabus code, which is the variable that decides the grade

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai International Academic City

01

Paper structures and weightings for the subjects this cluster actually sits

An IGCSE grade is the sum of two or three components with fixed weightings, and a student who does not know those weightings cannot allocate revision sensibly. A paper worth half the subject deserves half the preparation, and in several subjects students spend most of their time on the component they are already comfortable with. Getting the structure on paper, for each subject, is a twenty-minute exercise that changes how a whole term is spent.

The structures also differ between boards in ways that matter operationally. Cambridge Physics offers either a practical examination or the alternative-to-practical paper, and the school chooses; Pearson Physics has no practical component and places experimental skills inside the written papers. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 includes a non-calculator paper in some variants; Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator in both. A student who has drilled mental arithmetic for a paper that allows a calculator has wasted the hours.

The table below sets out the shape of the components for the subjects most often requested in this cluster. Treat it as orientation and confirm the exact variant and option with your child's examinations officer, because syllabuses are revised and schools make per-cohort choices. Never work from a printed summary that nobody has dated.

One point of technique that applies across every subject here: the mark allocation printed beside each question is instruction, not decoration. A four-mark question wants four distinct creditable points, and a student who writes one point beautifully has lost three marks by misreading a number printed in bold on the page.

Core against Extended, Foundation against Higher: the tier decision and its ceiling

Tiering is the most consequential decision in the IGCSE course and it is usually made by the school at the end of Year 9 or during Year 10, sometimes without a conversation. Cambridge Core and Extended sit different papers covering different amounts of the syllabus, and Core caps the achievable grade. Pearson Foundation and Higher work the same way, with Foundation capping at grade 5 and Higher running to grade 9.

The temptation with a struggling student is the lower tier, because a secure grade looks better than a risky one. Sometimes that is right. But the cap has consequences two years out: a sixth form requiring grade 6 in mathematics for A Level Mathematics or for the IB Diploma's Analysis and Approaches has excluded a Core candidate before they sat the paper, and for Ministry of Education equivalency the requirement is only a grade no lower than E or 3, which Core comfortably reaches. So the question is not 'can they pass' but 'what does this close'.

The honest version of the conversation needs two pieces of information the school holds and you probably do not: the student's current performance on Extended-tier past-paper questions specifically, and the sixth-form entry requirements for the courses they are likely to want. A tutor is useful here mainly as a diagnostician - two timed Extended papers marked properly will tell you more than a term of impressions.

Where a tier change is worth fighting for, the work is specific rather than general. Extended tier in mathematics adds a defined set of topics on top of Core, and most of the gap is in those topics rather than across the whole subject. A targeted block through the first term of Year 10 is often enough to move a borderline student up, and it is far cheaper than discovering the ceiling in Year 12.

03

Cambridge against Pearson Edexcel in the same subject

Schools in this cluster mix boards, and a single Year 11 student may sit Cambridge in three subjects and Pearson in two. Parents are rarely told why, and the answer is usually departmental preference built up over years rather than anything about the child. The two boards cover similar content to similar standards; what differs is assessment architecture, and that difference changes how a student should revise.

The clearest case is physics. Cambridge 0625 carries a practical or alternative-to-practical component, which means laboratory technique and apparatus knowledge are directly examined. Pearson 4PH1 has no practical paper and tests experimental skills inside the written papers, usually as method-design and data-analysis questions. A student moving schools mid-course between these two specifications is not covering the same ground, and the gap needs mapping deliberately rather than assumed away.

Mathematics differs too. Cambridge 0580 includes a non-calculator component in common variants; Pearson 4MA1 permits calculators throughout. Cambridge Specification style leans towards structured multi-part questions; Pearson 4MA1's longer problems at the end of each paper reward persistence. These are small differences that compound across a hundred hours of revision, which is why matching a tutor to the code rather than the subject name is not pedantry.

Practically, the only thing you need to do is get the codes. Ask the examinations officer for the full entry list: subject, board, syllabus code, tier and option. Bring it to the first session. A tutor who asks for that list before quoting is working the right way round; one who does not will teach a generic course and you will pay for content your child never sits.

04

Where the marks actually go, subject by subject

  • Mathematics: no working shown, early rounding, final long question abandoned
  • Sciences: command terms, missing units, descriptions offered as explanations
  • English: wrong form for the task, over-long quotation, no analysis of language choice
  • Geography and History: no named case study, source answers that discuss content rather than provenance
  • Across all subjects: the printed mark allocation ignored when planning an answer

Most IGCSE mark loss in this cluster is not caused by not knowing the content. It is caused by a small set of repeatable technique failures, and the reason tutoring moves grades quickly in Year 11 is that these are faster to fix than content is to learn. A tutor who starts by marking two timed papers properly will usually find three or four recurring errors that account for the bulk of the missing marks.

In mathematics the recurring failures are working not shown, rounding applied too early, and the last long question left blank. In the sciences they are command-term confusion, units omitted, and explanations that describe a phenomenon without giving a cause. In English it is form: a student writes a competent essay when a letter or an article was specified and loses the entire form band regardless of quality. In the humanities it is specificity: no named example, no figure, no date.

The method that works is an error log, kept by the student rather than the tutor. Every marked question that lost a mark goes in with the reason in the student's own words. After three or four sessions the log shows a pattern, and the pattern becomes the lesson plan. It is unglamorous and it is the single most effective thing a sixteen-year-old can do with a returned paper.

On materials: we cite and link official syllabuses, specimen papers and mark schemes on cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com rather than supplying copies of them. Reproducing board material is a copyright matter, and the official source is also the only one guaranteed to be the current version.

05

The June and November series counted backwards

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. UAE candidates sit June and November. The February/March series is offered to India only, and a page telling a Dubai parent to prepare for a February exam is giving them a date they cannot use.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November each year. For a sense of how far ahead the machinery sits: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each series, which is why any session table should link the live official timetable rather than restate dates that can be revised.

One Cambridge detail that catches families out and appears on almost no tutoring page: every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. If you are checking a timetable yourself, check which zone your child's centre sits in first.

The planning consequence is simple. Work backwards from the written papers to the school's internal coursework and mock deadlines, and from those to the point at which tutoring has to start to be useful rather than consoling. For a June series candidate, the decision point is the first term of Year 11, not March.

Practical science when the tutoring is online

This is the fair objection to online science tutoring and it deserves a direct answer. If your child's school has entered them for a Cambridge practical examination, the apparatus work has to happen in the school laboratory, and no tutor on a video call can substitute for standing at a bench. What a tutor can do is everything around it, and that turns out to be where the marks are.

Practical examinations and alternative-to-practical papers do not mainly test manual dexterity. They test whether a student can identify the independent and dependent variables, choose a sensible range and interval, state controls, read a scale to the right precision, record to consistent significant figures, plot a graph with sensible axes and scale, draw a line of best fit rather than joining points, and write an evaluation that names a specific limitation and a specific improvement. Every one of those is teachable on a screen with a dataset.

For Pearson candidates the position is simpler still, because 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1 have no practical examination and assess experimental skills inside the written papers as method-design and data-analysis questions. That is written-paper technique, and it is exactly what a weekly online session is good at. Students who have never thought about why a question asks for 'two further readings' pick up marks quickly once somebody explains what the examiner wants.

What we do not do is supply board practical papers or mark schemes, or coach a student through work the school is assessing as their own. Where a school sets internally assessed practical work, the tutor's role is to teach the underlying skills and to question the student's own write-up, not to contribute to it.

07

Academic honesty on IGCSE coursework and the line we will not cross

  • Allowed: teaching the underlying skill, explaining criteria, questioning a draft, written feedback the student acts on
  • Not allowed: supplied text, rewritten paragraphs, chosen topics, generated or processed data
  • The consequence of malpractice falls on the candidate, not the tutor
  • We link official syllabuses and specimen papers rather than reproducing board material

Some IGCSE subjects carry coursework or internally assessed components - English in certain variants, ICT, art, and internally assessed practical work in the sciences. Wherever a mark is awarded for work the student submits as their own, the same rule applies as at Diploma level: a tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback, and the student produces every word and every number.

The distinction is operational rather than philosophical. A tutor may explain what the assessment criteria reward, show what a strong response looks like in general terms, teach the skill the task depends on, and read a draft and comment on it. A tutor may not supply sentences that end up in the submission, rewrite a paragraph into better English, choose the topic, or generate or process the data. If the student cannot explain why a sentence says what it says, it should not be there.

This matters commercially as well as ethically, because the search results your child's subject sits in include operators selling completed coursework. One competitor in this market sells finished Internal Assessments outright. The exposure is not theirs. A malpractice finding falls on the candidate, and at sixteen the consequence can be a subject grade withheld in a series they cannot easily retake before a sixth-form offer lapses.

So we say the boundary out loud rather than leaving it in a terms page. It makes some sessions slower - a draft comes back with questions rather than corrections - and it is the only version of coursework support that is safe for the student to accept.

08

Five subjects, not six: what MoE equivalency actually requires

Families in this cluster planning on a UAE university need to know what the Ministry of Education equivalency route asks of an IGCSE candidate, and the published rule is narrower than the version circulating in this market. A student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must additionally show one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Two further points follow from the same source and both save money. First, Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE or IGCSE count. Second, the grade threshold is low - E or grade 3 - which means equivalency is almost never the reason to buy tutoring. A ranking competitor page states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the published requirement is five, excluding those two. Accuracy here is worth more than volume.

For the American track, for comparison, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. We publish no IB points threshold anywhere on this site, because no IB equivalency figure in this project has been read on a Ministry of Education source.

Equivalency is not something IB Gram performs, and no tutoring is required for it. Describe it, check it on moe.gov.ae or with your emirate's attestation authority, and plan the subject list in Year 10 rather than discovering a gap in Year 13. The real tutoring question is not equivalency but the sixth-form and university entry grades, which sit far above the equivalency floor.

Finding a tutor who knows your child's actual specification

The matching question for IGCSE is narrower than for most subjects, and that narrowness is why distance is the wrong filter. You are not looking for a maths tutor. You are looking for somebody who teaches Pearson 4MA1 Higher, or Cambridge 0580 Extended, routinely enough to know which question types appear where and what the mark scheme rewards. In the eastern suburbs of Dubai, the number of such people within a twenty-minute drive of Academic City is not large.

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Ask to see the permit.

There is one arrangement to decline rather than pursue. The permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and in Abu Dhabi ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. If somebody offers your child's own subject teacher privately, that is a problem for the teacher and potentially for your child.

Where a specification is genuinely hard to staff - and 4MB1, some second-language options and a few of the less common humanities are - we say so at the consultation and give a realistic wait rather than substituting a generalist. That disclosure is uncomfortable and it is better than the alternative, which is finding out in lesson three.

Where we tutor

Where IGCSE students in this cluster live and go to school

Academic City's immediate neighbours all feed the same group of British-curriculum schools, which means the syllabus questions on this page apply across the district rather than only inside it.

Dubai International Academic City

The free zone off Al Ain Road built around university campuses, with Dubai English Speaking College inside it running IGCSE and A Level. The one neighbourhood in this cluster where the local secondary is on the British route rather than the IB.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Next door, apartment-dense, and the catchment for several British and Indian-curriculum schools. A short school run means a 4.45pm session is realistic, which matters for Year 11 students carrying eight or nine subjects.

Mirdif

Villas and low-rise, with Star International School Mirdif on the British route and Uptown International School running the IB continuum. Mirdif families often compare the two routes directly at the end of Year 9.

Al Warqa

GEMS Our Own English High School draws a large Indian-curriculum population, alongside IGCSE families at nearby schools. The mix means tutoring enquiries from one street can concern CBSE Class 10 and Cambridge Extended tier in the same week.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

A dense older cluster of schools including The Millennium School Dubai and Apple International School, where IGCSE and Indian-curriculum provision sit side by side and students frequently move between boards mid-course.

International City

The clusters around Dragon Mart, with no international school inside the district. Children travel out to Al Warqa, Mirdif or Academic City, which pushes a realistic weekday session start towards 6pm.

Nad Al Hamar and Al Rashidiya

Between Al Warqa and Ras Al Khor, with quick access across to Garhoud and Nad Al Sheba schools. A common choice for families who want a British-curriculum secondary with a short run on Ras Al Khor Road.

Dubai Festival City and Al Khawaneej

The waterfront and the far eastern edge respectively. Both are workable catchments for the Garhoud and Mirdif schools, and both are places where the pool of local subject-specialist tutors is thin enough that online delivery changes the choice entirely.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai International Academic City

Academic City, Silicon Oasis and Dubailand

The immediate British-curriculum catchment, with IGCSE taught at the end of Year 11 before splitting into A Level or the IB Diploma. Students we support attend schools across this cluster; no affiliation is implied.

  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • GEMS Wellington Academy - Silicon Oasis
  • GEMS FirstPoint School
  • The Aquila School
  • Nibras International School

Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais

The eastern suburbs, mixing British, Indian and American provision within a few kilometres. Board choice varies subject by subject here more than almost anywhere else in Dubai.

  • Star International School Mirdif
  • Uptown International School
  • GEMS Our Own English High School, Al Warqa
  • The Millennium School Dubai
  • Apple International School

Garhoud, Nad Al Sheba and Oud Metha

The longer-established schools this cluster commutes to, several of which run IGCSE before offering both A Level and the IB Diploma in sixth form.

  • Deira International School
  • Repton School Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • The Indian High School, Dubai
  • GEMS Winchester School, Oud Metha

Schools are named only as context for the local education ecosystem; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the entry list, not the subject names

Subject, board, syllabus code, tier and option for each examination your child is entered for. The examinations officer at the school can produce this in a few minutes. It is the single most useful thing you can give a tutor, and it prevents an entire term of teaching the wrong specification.

  2. 02

Two marked timed papers as a diagnosis

Before planning anything, the tutor has the student sit questions at the intended tier under timed conditions and marks them against the published mark scheme. That produces a list of recurring errors rather than an impression, and the list becomes the plan for the first six sessions.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with a written summary

A real lesson on real content. Afterwards you get a plain note of what the tutor found, which components are weakest, and what they would do over the next eight weeks. If it is not right, say so and nothing further is owed.

  4. 04

Weekly rhythm, error log, periodic review

One session a week per subject in term time, with the student keeping an error log of every mark lost and why. Every few weeks a short written note on what has moved. If the tutor is not the right fit, we reassign rather than defend the match.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by syllabus code, not by subject name

Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 are not the same qualification and should not be taught by the same lesson plan. We ask for the entry list before matching, which sounds procedural and is the difference between useful tutoring and expensive company.

Technique first, because that is where the marks are

Most IGCSE mark loss in Year 11 is command terms, missing working, early rounding and wrong task form. These are faster to fix than content is to learn, which is why a marked timed paper is the first thing a tutor should ask for rather than the last.

The calendar UAE candidates actually use

June and November for Cambridge; May/June and November for Pearson Edexcel. The February/March series is offered to India only. Pages that tell Dubai parents to prepare for a February exam are giving them a date for the wrong country.

Coursework help that cannot cost your child a grade

On any assessed work the student writes and we question. No supplied sentences, no rewritten paragraphs, no chosen topics. One operator in these search results sells completed coursework outright; the malpractice consequence of that falls on the sixteen-year-old.

We state what we are not

No UAE office or centre. No KHDA permit, because that is issued to training institutes with premises and we have none. No published star rating we cannot evidence. Every AED figure on this page is attributed to whoever published it and dated October 2026.

Online removes geography from the matching decision

From Academic City, International City or Al Khawaneej, the pool of tutors who routinely teach your child's exact specification is the same, because none of them is driving. That is a larger pool than a twenty-minute radius produces anywhere in eastern Dubai.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai International Academic City: your questions answered

Can I get an IGCSE home tutor in Dubai International Academic City?+

You can get one-to-one IGCSE tutoring for a child living in Dubai International Academic City. With IB Gram it is delivered live online rather than by a tutor coming to your address, because home visits are a service we run in India only. The Dubai market does include tutors who travel, at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel according to rates published in 2026. For IGCSE the trade-off is particularly sharp, because what decides the grade is whether the tutor knows your child's exact specification rather than how close they live.

Which IGCSE exam board does my child's school in this cluster use?+

It varies by school and often by subject within the same school, so the only reliable answer comes from the examinations officer. Ask for the full entry list: subject, board, syllabus code, tier and option. It is common in this part of Dubai for a Year 11 student to sit Cambridge in three subjects and Pearson Edexcel in two. The codes matter because Cambridge 0625 Physics carries a practical or alternative-to-practical component while Pearson 4PH1 has no practical examination at all, which changes how a student should revise.

Core or Extended tier: which should an Academic City Year 10 be entered for?+

They are different tiers covering different amounts of the syllabus and sitting different papers. Core covers a reduced content set and caps the achievable grade at C or grade 5; Extended covers the full content and runs to A star or grade 9. The equivalent in Pearson Edexcel is Foundation, capped at grade 5, and Higher running to 9. The decision matters two years out rather than immediately: a sixth form asking for grade 6 in mathematics has excluded a Core candidate before they sat the paper.

Is there a practical paper for the sciences at the schools near Academic City?+

It depends on the board and on the school's choice. Cambridge sciences offer either a practical examination or the alternative-to-practical paper, and the school decides which; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences such as 4PH1 and 4CH1 have no practical examination and assess experimental skills inside the written papers. Ask the school which option they have entered your child for, because revision differs. For Cambridge, apparatus and technique knowledge is examined; for Pearson, the same skills appear as method-design and data-analysis questions in a written paper.

How can online tutoring help with practical science skills?+

Apparatus work has to happen in the school laboratory, and no video call substitutes for a bench. But practical and alternative-to-practical papers mainly test things that are taught perfectly well on a screen: identifying variables, choosing a sensible range and interval, stating controls, reading scales to the right precision, recording to consistent significant figures, plotting a graph with a sensible scale, drawing a line of best fit, and writing an evaluation naming a specific limitation and improvement. Those skills, worked through on real datasets, are where most practical-paper marks are won and lost.

Which IGCSE subjects do students in eastern Dubai struggle with most?+

By volume of enquiries from this cluster: Mathematics at Extended or Higher tier, Physics - particularly electricity and electromagnetism - and Chemistry, where moles calculations and electrolysis account for a large share of lost marks. English Language causes a different kind of trouble: strong students lose whole mark bands by writing in the wrong form for the task. Biology struggles are usually volume and command terms rather than difficulty. The pattern is consistent enough that a tutor can predict the weak areas before seeing a single piece of work.

When in the two-year IGCSE course should an Academic City family book help?+

Year 10, and it is usually cheaper overall. In Year 10 there is time to rebuild a missing topic properly and to argue for a tier change if the evidence supports one. By the February of Year 11 the content is nearly complete and the useful work becomes timed past-paper technique, which recovers marks quickly but cannot replace a topic that was never learned. Families in this cluster who start in the first term of Year 10 typically buy fewer total hours than those who start after the Year 11 mocks.

My son got a grade 5 in June. Should he resit in November?+

Ask the school for the component-level breakdown before deciding, because the grade alone cannot answer it. A 5 built on a solid Paper 1 and a collapsed Paper 2 is a very different proposition from a 5 that was uniformly weak: the first is a repairable, specific problem with roughly five months to work on it, the second usually is not. Cambridge and Pearson both run November series, and entry is arranged through the school or an approved centre with the registration deadline sitting months before the exam window.

How much does an IGCSE tutor cost around Academic City?+

Taking the cheapest band first: budget and university-student online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. In-home one-to-one, travel included, runs AED 180 to 500 per Bestimate and advertised home-tutor rates. Those are market figures from the providers named, read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices. Start with the free trial lesson for ours.

Does a tutor in Dubai need a MoHRE permit for private lessons?+

Yes. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any specific amount quoted to you is unverified. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, which means no tutor can price it into their rate. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

How many IGCSE subjects does my child need for a UAE university?+

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, the published requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade no less than E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One ranking competitor states six subjects are required; the published rule is five. Note that the equivalency floor is far below any realistic university entry requirement, so plan around the course requirements, not the equivalency minimum.

Can a tutor help with my daughter's IGCSE coursework?+

Within a boundary, yes. A tutor can teach the skill the task depends on, explain what the assessment criteria reward, show what a strong response looks like in general terms, and read her own draft and comment on it. A tutor cannot supply sentences that end up in the submission, rewrite a paragraph into better English, choose her topic, or generate or process her data. The test is whether she could explain, without notes, why each sentence says what it says. A malpractice finding falls on the candidate, not on the tutor.

What are Cambridge timetable zones and why do they matter?+

Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, and publishes a different version of the timetable for each. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. If you are checking dates yourself rather than relying on the school, find out which zone your child's centre sits in before you read anything off a timetable. It is a detail almost no tutoring page mentions and it has caused missed papers.

Could one tutor take both IGCSE maths and physics for my Year 11?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. A tutor with a physics or engineering background often teaches both to IGCSE level credibly, and the overlap in algebraic technique makes the combination efficient. Where we would not combine is when the two subjects sit on different boards with different assessment architectures and the tutor only knows one well. The entry list answers this: if it is Cambridge 0580 and Cambridge 0625, one tutor is plausible; if it is 4MA1 and 0625, check the depth in each.

Can sessions be scheduled around school timings and prayer times?+

Yes, and because no tutor is travelling it is a scheduling question rather than a logistics one. From Silicon Oasis or Mirdif, where the school sits inside the district, a 4.45pm start is realistic. From Academic City to a Silicon Oasis school, 5pm. From International City, where children travel out to Al Warqa or Mirdif, 6pm is the honest answer. Weekend mornings suit Year 11 past-paper work better than any weekday slot. Tell us the pattern you want and we fix the slot rather than rearranging week to week.

Will the tutor send us Cambridge past papers and mark schemes?+

No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Cambridge, Pearson and the IB own that material, and reproducing or distributing it is a copyright matter; for unreleased material it is also a malpractice exposure. What we do is cite and link the official sources on cambridgeinternational.org and qualifications.pearson.com, which has the added benefit of being the only place guaranteed to hold the current version rather than a syllabus two revisions out of date. Schools also hold past papers and will usually release them to students on request.

Send the entry list and we will tell you what we find

If your child is sitting IGCSEs and you live in Dubai International Academic City, Silicon Oasis, Mirdif, Al Warqa or International City, the useful first step is the examination entry list: subject, board, syllabus code, tier and option. With that in hand we can say honestly whether we have a tutor who teaches that exact specification routinely, and what a realistic plan looks like between now and the June series. The trial lesson is free, it is a real lesson rather than a sales call, and you get a written summary of what the tutor found. Lessons are one-to-one and online, on Gulf Standard Time.
