IB Chemistry Tutor in Dubai International Academic City

Families looking for an IB chemistry tutor in Dubai International Academic City are usually comparing their options against Silicon Oasis or Mirdif at the same time. The comparison is worth making and it reaches the same conclusion in all three, because chemistry turns on mole calculations and mechanism conventions rather than on who lives nearby. This page covers both, plus investigation design and the Structure and Reactivity themes. Lessons are one-to-one online.

  • Mole calculations rebuilt from first principles where needed
  • Mechanism conventions taught as marking criteria, not as drawings
  • Investigation feasibility checked against the school's apparatus
  • Free trial lesson with a written diagnosis afterwards

IB & IGCSE in Dubai International Academic City

The same answer in Academic City, Silicon Oasis and Mirdif

Parents in this part of Dubai compare neighbourhoods constantly, and for chemistry the comparison is instructive because it collapses. Dubai International Academic City is a university free zone off Al Ain Road; its own secondary, Dubai English Speaking College, runs the British route to A Level. One junction away in Silicon Oasis, GEMS Wellington Academy teaches the Diploma. Uptown International School in Mirdif runs the full IB continuum, Universal American School in Al Warqa carries IB programmes, and the Nad Al Sheba schools sit beyond.

So an Academic City family drives ten minutes, a Silicon Oasis family drives five, a Mirdif family walks their child to the gate, and an International City family drives half an hour. Those differences are real and they change what time a session can start. What they do not change is the supply of people who can teach Diploma chemistry at Higher Level, because that is set across the emirate rather than district by district, and in the eastern suburbs it is thin everywhere.

Chemistry has a second reason to ignore geography. The two things that decide a chemistry grade are mole calculations and mechanism conventions, and both are specific, teachable and almost entirely independent of where a tutor sits. A student who cannot convert between mass, moles and concentration reliably will lose marks in every one of the six themes, and a student who draws curly arrows from the wrong origin will lose organic marks regardless of how well they understand the reaction.

The current chemistry syllabus is organised around two concepts, Structure and Reactivity, each containing three themes. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter, bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and what happens when electrons are transferred. A tutor talking about numbered topics and option units is working from a superseded guide.

The third decisive element is the scientific investigation, worth twenty-four marks across four criteria. In chemistry the commonest failure is a design that the school's apparatus cannot support at the precision the question needs - a rates investigation with no way to time accurately, or a titration with no suitable indicator available. That is a feasibility conversation, and it should happen before any data is collected rather than after a wasted week.

IB Gram delivers all of this online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. For Higher Level chemistry in this cluster that is not a limitation but the reason the arrangement works, because the local pool a travelling tutor would come from barely exists, while the pool that can coach organic mechanisms and equilibrium calculations does.

At a glance

  • Two organising concepts in the current guide: Structure and Reactivity, three themes each
  • Mole calculations and mechanism conventions decide more chemistry marks than any content gap
  • The scientific investigation carries 24 marks across four criteria of six each
  • Chemistry investigation failures in this cluster are usually feasibility failures, not analysis failures
  • Nearest Diploma chemistry teaching to Academic City is in Silicon Oasis
  • Lessons are one-to-one and online; no tutor travels to a UAE address

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry tutoring requests from this cluster arrive at three points, and the right work differs at each.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP sciences into Diploma chemistry

Graded 1-8 against knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. The gap that matters for chemistry is quantitative: MYP sciences rarely demand the arithmetic fluency that mole calculations require, so a strong MYP scientist can arrive in the first Diploma year unable to do stoichiometry at speed.

In this cluster the MYP runs at Uptown International School in Mirdif and Universal American School in Al Warqa. A short block of work in MYP 5 on ratio, proportion and unit conversion pays for itself twice over in the first Diploma year, and it is the kind of request families almost never make because the subject it helps has not started yet.

SLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Chemistry, Standard Level

The full set of themes at standard depth, with written papers and the scientific investigation. Standard Level chemistry is often taken as a third science or as a prerequisite for a non-chemistry degree, and the presenting problem is usually stoichiometry rather than concepts. Students understand the chemistry and lose marks on the arithmetic that expresses it.

Standard Level chemistry requests from Academic City and Silicon Oasis frequently turn out to need six sessions on moles rather than a year of general support. One diagnostic session settles which it is, and saying so honestly costs us revenue and saves the family several thousand dirhams.

HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Chemistry, Higher Level

Additional content across every theme, with substantially more organic synthesis, more quantitative equilibrium and acid-base work, and more demanding spectroscopic interpretation. Higher Level chemistry is the usual requirement for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and chemical engineering, which makes it one of the highest-stakes subjects in the Diploma.

Higher Level chemistry demand in Dubai peaks in the same fortnight every year, around mock examinations, and that is when it is hardest to staff. Families in this cluster who book in the first term get a specialist; families who book in February get whoever is free. The rate is the same either way, which is the entire argument for planning ahead.

IAAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The chemistry scientific investigation

An independent investigation worth twenty-four marks across four criteria of six each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. In chemistry it most often takes the form of a rates study, a titration-based concentration determination, an energetics measurement or an electrochemistry investigation, each with its own characteristic pitfalls.

The limiting factor in this cluster is laboratory provision, which varies considerably between schools a few kilometres apart. A rates investigation needs reliable timing and temperature control; a titration needs suitable glassware and indicator. Check what the school has before the research design is written, because redesigning after a failed week costs more than the whole coaching block.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry divides into themes and skills, and most lost marks are in the skills. These are the areas families in this cluster raise.

Mole calculations and stoichiometry

SL and HL

Mass to moles, concentration, gas volumes, limiting reagent, percentage yield and atom economy. The single highest-return topic in the subject, because it appears inside questions in every theme. A student who hesitates here loses marks throughout the paper rather than in one section.

Models of the particulate nature of matter

SL and HL

Atomic structure, electron configuration, ionisation energy trends and the mass spectrum. Marks go on explanations of trends that describe the pattern rather than attributing it to nuclear charge, shielding and sub-level occupancy in the order the mark scheme expects.

Bonding and structure

SL and HL

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, intermolecular forces, shapes of molecules and hybridisation at Higher Level. The recurring error is explaining a physical property by naming a bond type without saying which forces are broken and why that requires more or less energy.

Classification of matter and spectroscopy

SL and HL

Periodicity, organic families and, at Higher Level, structural determination from spectroscopic data. Spectroscopy questions reward a systematic order of attack - molecular formula, then functional groups, then connectivity - which students rarely apply unprompted.

Energetics and thermochemistry

SL and HL

Enthalpy changes, Hess cycles, bond enthalpies and, at Higher Level, entropy and Gibbs free energy. Sign conventions account for most of the lost marks, followed closely by using bond enthalpies and formation enthalpies in the same calculation.

Rates of reaction

SL and HL

Collision theory, rate expressions and, at Higher Level, rate-determining steps and activation energy from graphical data. A common investigation topic in this cluster, and one where the design usually fails on timing precision rather than on chemistry.

Equilibrium

SL and HL

Dynamic equilibrium, Le Chatelier reasoning and, at Higher Level, equilibrium constant calculations. Students apply Le Chatelier correctly and then lose marks by failing to state what happens to the value of the constant, which is a separate and frequently examined point.

Acids, bases and pH

SL and HL

Strong and weak acids, pH and pKa calculations, buffers and titration curves at Higher Level. Logarithmic arithmetic is where the marks go, along with answers that treat a weak acid as fully dissociated partway through a calculation.

Redox and electrochemistry

SL and HL

Oxidation states, half-equations, electrolysis and, at Higher Level, cell potentials and the Nernst-type reasoning the guide requires. Half-equation balancing in acidic and basic conditions is mechanical and reliably mishandled under time pressure.

Organic chemistry and mechanisms

SL and HL

Functional groups, reaction types and, at Higher Level, nucleophilic substitution and electrophilic addition mechanisms with curly arrows. Mechanism marks are lost on conventions - arrow origin, lone pairs, charges, partial charges - rather than on understanding the chemistry.

Investigation design for chemistry

SL and HL

Choosing between rates, titration, energetics and electrochemistry designs with an eye on what the school's laboratory can actually deliver, then controlling the variables that matter. Feasibility first, chemistry second, writing third.

Uncertainty in chemical measurement

SL and HL

Glassware tolerances, propagation through a concentration calculation, and uncertainty in a gradient for rates work. Examined in data-analysis questions and central to the investigation's evaluation criterion, and almost never taught as a lesson in its own right.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of chemistry tutoring matched to the three problems students actually present with, plus our position on in-home tuition.

Weekly sessions with stoichiometry running underneath

One 60-minute session a week on the theme the class is covering, with mole calculations practised in every session until they are automatic. Chemistry is unusual in that one skill appears inside questions across the whole syllabus, so it is worth drilling continuously rather than teaching once and moving on.

  • Follows the school's scheme of work for theme content
  • Stoichiometry practised every week until it is fluent
  • Same tutor weekly so the diagnosis accumulates
  • Gulf Standard Time slots around the school run

Mechanism and organic block

A short, focused run of sessions on the organic content and the mechanism conventions the mark scheme rewards: arrow origin, lone pairs, formal and partial charges, intermediates and stereochemistry where it applies. These are marking criteria rather than artistic preferences, and students who learn them score where students who understand the chemistry do not.

  • Conventions taught as mark-scheme requirements
  • Nucleophilic substitution and electrophilic addition drawn repeatedly
  • Synthesis route planning at Higher Level
  • Spectroscopy attacked in a fixed order

Investigation coaching, feasibility first

Four to six sessions timed to the school's internal deadline, beginning with whether the proposed design can be executed with the apparatus the school has at the precision the question needs. The tutor questions the design, explains the four criteria, and comments on the student's own drafts and data treatment. The student designs, measures and writes.

  • Apparatus and precision checked before data collection
  • Four criteria explained with their six-mark allocations
  • Uncertainty from glassware tolerances taught on the student's own numbers
  • Feedback on drafts; no supplied text, data or analysis

In-home chemistry tutoring: the market and our position

Dubai has tutors who travel, at published in-home one-to-one rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel per Bestimate's 2026 table and advertised home-tutor rates. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Chemistry is a subject where the choice of tutor matters far more than the choice of location.

  • No IB Gram tutor travels to an address in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE
  • Travel premium in this market is roughly AED 50-150 an hour
  • A nearby tutor may teach Standard Level well and Higher Level organic not at all
  • Practical work happens in the school laboratory under either model

Structure and Reactivity: the six themes and where each one bites

The current chemistry syllabus is built around two organising concepts rather than a numbered topic list. Structure contains models of the particulate nature of matter, bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity contains what drives reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and what happens when electrons are transferred. If a prospective tutor describes the course in terms of numbered topics with optional units, they are working from the previous guide.

Each theme has a characteristic failure mode, and they are different in kind. In Structure the failures are explanatory: a trend described rather than attributed, a property named rather than accounted for. In Reactivity they are numerical: sign conventions in energetics, logarithms in acid-base work, half-equation balancing in redox. Knowing which kind of failure dominates tells you whether your child needs writing practice or arithmetic practice, and those are different sessions.

The table below pairs each theme with its characteristic failure and a diagnostic question that surfaces it quickly. Those diagnostics are the useful part: each takes a few minutes and separates a content gap from a habit, which is the distinction that decides what the next eight sessions should contain.

One scheduling note. In most schools in this cluster the organic content and the equilibrium and acid-base work land in the second half of the first Diploma year or early in the second, around the time the investigation is live. That overlap is why chemistry support booked in the first term is worth more than the same number of hours bought in February.

02

Mole calculations: the highest-return topic in the subject

  • Mass to moles via molar mass, in both directions, without hesitation
  • Concentration, volume and amount interconverted fluently
  • Limiting reagent identified before any yield calculation
  • Gas volumes handled with the correct conditions stated
  • Percentage yield and atom economy distinguished and calculated separately

If a chemistry student in this cluster is losing marks across the whole paper rather than in one section, the cause is almost always stoichiometry. Mass to moles, moles to concentration, concentration to volume, gas volumes, limiting reagent, percentage yield. These calculations sit inside questions in every theme, which means a hesitation here costs marks in energetics, in equilibrium, in acid-base work, in redox and in the investigation, all at once.

The diagnostic is quick. Give a student a three-step stoichiometry problem and watch where they stop. A student who has to reconstruct the relationship between mass, moles and molar mass each time is spending working memory on arithmetic that should be automatic, and has none left for the chemistry the question is actually about. That is not a conceptual problem and it is not fixed by re-explaining the concept.

What fixes it is volume and variety: short calculation sets at the start of every session, across all the forms the Diploma uses, until the conversions happen without thought. Six to eight sessions of this, run alongside whatever the class is covering, changes a student's performance across the whole subject rather than in one theme. It is the least interesting thing a chemistry tutor does and the most valuable.

For families arriving from Indian-curriculum schools - a large group in Al Warqa and International City - the position is often reversed. Stoichiometry is strong, and the gaps are in explanation writing and in mechanism conventions. The same diagnostic session identifies which of the two situations you are in, which is why we would rather run it than take a booking on assumption.

03

Mechanism conventions are marking criteria, not drawing style

Organic mechanism questions are where good chemistry students lose marks they cannot explain. The chemistry is understood, the product is right, and the mark is two out of four. The reason is almost always convention: the curly arrow starts from the bond or the lone pair rather than from the atom, lone pairs are shown where they matter, formal charges appear on intermediates, partial charges are marked on polarised bonds, and the arrow points at the atom receiving the electron pair.

Mark schemes credit these individually. An arrow from the wrong origin loses the arrow mark even when the overall mechanism is correct. A missing charge on a carbocation loses the intermediate mark. These are not stylistic preferences imposed by a fussy examiner; they are the evidence that the student understands which electrons move where, which is the entire point of drawing a mechanism rather than writing an equation.

The teaching is repetitive and quick. Draw nucleophilic substitution ten times, with the conventions checked each time, and the habits set. Draw electrophilic addition to an alkene another ten times. At Higher Level add the distinction between the two substitution pathways and the stereochemical consequences. Fifteen minutes a session for a month produces a student who scores full marks on mechanism questions as a matter of routine.

Spectroscopy belongs in the same section because it is also a procedure rather than a body of knowledge. Attack in a fixed order: molecular formula from the mass spectrum, functional groups from the infrared, connectivity and environments from the nuclear magnetic resonance. Students who work in that order reach the structure; students who look at everything at once usually do not.

04

Chemistry investigation designs and their characteristic pitfalls

Chemistry investigations in this cluster cluster into four or five familiar shapes, and each has a known way of going wrong. The single most common failure is not analytical but practical: a design that the school's laboratory cannot execute at the precision the research question requires. A rates investigation needs reliable timing and temperature control. A titration needs appropriate glassware and a suitable indicator. Discovering the gap after a week of data collection is the expensive route to finding out.

So the first coaching session is a feasibility session, and it is short. What apparatus does the school actually have? What is the smallest division on the glassware, and what uncertainty does that imply for the final result? Can the temperature be held constant, and how? Is there enough of the reagent for the number of repeats the design needs? Those questions take half an hour and save a fortnight.

Beyond feasibility, the marks sit where they sit in every science investigation: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, six marks each. In chemistry the data-analysis criterion rewards uncertainty propagated properly through a concentration calculation, which means knowing glassware tolerances rather than guessing. The evaluation criterion rewards identifying the dominant uncertainty source and proposing a specific change, not a list of generic limitations.

The boundary on all of this is firm. The student chooses the research question, designs the method, takes the measurements, processes the data and writes the report. The tutor tests feasibility, explains the criteria, questions the design and comments on drafts. One operator competing for these searches sells completed investigations at a published price; a malpractice finding from that falls on the candidate, not on the seller.

Academic City, Silicon Oasis, Mirdif, International City: the comparison done properly

Since families here shop by comparison, here is the comparison with the columns that actually matter for chemistry. Where the subject is taught nearby. What laboratory access looks like for investigation work. When a weekday session can realistically begin. And what the local pool of Higher Level chemistry specialists contains, which is the column where the comparison collapses.

Mirdif and Silicon Oasis have Diploma teaching inside the district, which makes both the school run and investigation access easier - a student who can get back into the laboratory for an extra set of readings has a real advantage over one who cannot. Academic City families travel one junction. International City families travel considerably further, which pushes sessions past six and makes the weekend morning the slot where calculation-heavy work gets done.

The last column reads the same in every row, and that is the finding. None of these four neighbourhoods contains a usable local choice of tutors who teach Diploma chemistry at Higher Level, because the supply is emirate-wide and the eastern suburbs are not where it concentrates. A family in Mirdif has a marginally better chance than one in Al Khawaneej. Neither has a shortlist.

Which means the practical advice is the same from all four addresses: choose on whether the tutor teaches the level and can coach an investigation through uncertainty propagation, and let the delivery be online so that choice is available at all. The timing differences in the table are worth planning around; the geography differences are not worth paying for.

Higher Level chemistry and the courses it gates

Chemistry at Higher Level carries unusual weight because of which degrees it gates. It is the standard requirement for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary science and chemical engineering, which means a student in this cluster considering any of those routes is making a decision in Year 11 that is extremely awkward to reverse later. Dropping from Higher to Standard Level is generally possible; moving the other way usually is not.

The additional content at Higher Level is not evenly distributed. Organic chemistry expands considerably, with more reaction types and synthesis route planning. Equilibrium and acid-base work becomes properly quantitative, with equilibrium constant and pKa calculations. Energetics adds entropy and free energy. Electrochemistry adds cell potentials. Spectroscopic structure determination appears. The mathematical demand rises throughout, which is why stoichiometry fluency matters even more here.

The load question is also worth asking honestly. Higher Level chemistry alongside Higher Level biology and Higher Level mathematics is a common medicine-track combination and a genuinely heavy two years. If your child is still choosing, map the assessment deadlines across both years rather than looking only at interest, and ask the Diploma coordinator which combinations the timetable actually supports.

For admissions specifically, read the published requirements for each university and course rather than relying on a general rule, and do it during the first Diploma year. UAE institutions and overseas ones differ, and some specify a minimum grade in Higher Level chemistry rather than merely requiring the subject. That number, not the equivalency floor, is what the tutoring plan should be built around.

07

What chemistry tutoring costs here, band by band

Three of the six leading pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote United States dollars, which is not the currency families here transact in. So here are the bands in dirhams, each attributed to whoever published the figure, all read in October 2026, and none of them an IB Gram rate.

Budget and university-student online tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. That band is usable for Standard Level content support and rarely contains anybody who can coach Higher Level organic mechanisms. Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. IB specialists run AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270, and premium named tutors reach AED 500 to 650, with BartyED at AED 650.

In-home one-to-one including travel runs AED 180 to 500, per Bestimate at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at 200 to 500. Monthly, published packages include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, while Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support.

Useful context for a family weighing tutoring against other education costs: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's second economic incentives package. For our own rates, the free trial lesson comes first and the figure is quoted against your child's actual level and the work the diagnosis identifies.

08

The chemistry year counted backwards, and what we will not claim

UAE schools sit the May examination session. For chemistry the internal calendar is the binding one, because the investigation deadline usually lands in the second half of the first Diploma year or early in the second, where it collides with mock examinations, the Extended Essay submission and the Theory of Knowledge essay inside a few weeks in January and February.

Counting backwards produces a workable order. Stoichiometry fluency in the first term of the first year, before it starts costing marks in other themes. Mechanism conventions drilled as organic content is taught rather than revisited in revision. Investigation feasibility checked and data collected before mock preparation begins. Timed past-paper work started in the first term of the second year rather than after the mocks.

We publish no specific IB session or results dates on this site. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, and a wrong date on a page a family plans around is worse than no date at all, so confirm every IB date with the Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org. For Cambridge and Pearson qualifications the dates are sourced: Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates, with the February and March series offered to India only, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and in November.

And the limits, plainly. We make no promises about grades, publish no predicted scores and offer no guarantee. We hold no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and we have no office, centre or branch anywhere in the UAE. On regulation: the MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and tutoring without it attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no fine schedule published.

Where we tutor

Four neighbourhoods compared for a chemistry student

This page is written as a comparison because that is how families here shop. Here is what genuinely differs between the districts and what does not.

Dubai International Academic City

A university free zone whose own secondary runs the British route. Diploma chemistry students travel out, usually to Silicon Oasis, which puts the practical floor for a weekday session at around 5pm.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

The nearest Diploma chemistry teaching to Academic City, inside the district. Short school run, so a 4.45pm session works and two a week is realistic in the second Diploma year.

Mirdif

Uptown International School runs the IB continuum within the district, so MYP sciences and Diploma chemistry sit in one building. The best laboratory continuity in this cluster and the same Higher Level specialist shortage as everywhere else.

Al Warqa

Universal American School carries IB programmes here beside a large Indian-curriculum population. Students arriving from CBSE chemistry bring strong stoichiometry and need mechanism conventions and explanation writing taught deliberately.

International City

The clusters around Dragon Mart with no international school in the district. The longest run of the four, so weekday sessions begin around six and the weekend morning carries calculation-heavy work.

Nad Al Hamar and Ras Al Khor

Quick access across Ras Al Khor Road to the Nad Al Sheba schools, which generally have the deepest laboratory provision in this part of the city. A 5.30pm session start is realistic.

Al Khawaneej and Al Mizhar

The eastern edge, with no IB Diploma provision in either district and no local chemistry specialist pool worth the name. The clearest case in this cluster for matching online.

Dubai Festival City and Al Garhoud

Across the creek road, with Deira International School running the Diploma in Garhoud. A workable alternative catchment, with the interchange at pickup time as the limit on early sessions.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the level and the theme

Higher or Standard, which school, which theme the class is on, and what the last marked paper came back as. Chemistry problems sort into stoichiometry, explanation writing and mechanism conventions, and naming the theme lets a tutor guess which before the first session.

  2. 02

    Three-step stoichiometry diagnostic

Watch where the student stops on a three-step mole calculation. If they are reconstructing the mass-moles relationship each time, that is the work for the next six sessions regardless of which theme the class is covering, because it costs marks across the whole paper.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson and a written note

A real lesson on real chemistry with the student working and the tutor diagnosing. Afterwards a plain written summary: whether the problem is arithmetic, writing or convention, and what the available weeks would target. Say no and nothing further is owed.

  4. 04

Feasibility session before any investigation data

Half an hour on what the school's laboratory actually has, what the glassware tolerances imply for the final uncertainty, and whether the temperature can be held constant. The cheapest session in the arrangement and the one that prevents the commonest failure.

  5. 05

    Weekly rhythm with mechanisms drilled

One session a week on theme content with fifteen minutes of mechanism practice and a short stoichiometry set every time. The student keeps an error log, checked for recurrence each session, with short written reviews every few weeks.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Stoichiometry treated as the whole-subject skill it is

Mole calculations sit inside questions in every theme, so a hesitation there costs marks in energetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox and the investigation simultaneously. Short calculation sets every session, until automatic, beats any amount of theme revision.

Mechanism conventions taught as mark criteria

Arrow origin, lone pairs, formal and partial charges, intermediates. Mark schemes credit these individually, and a correct product drawn with the wrong arrow origin still loses the arrow mark. Fifteen minutes a session for a month fixes it permanently.

Feasibility before chemistry on the investigation

The commonest chemistry investigation failure in this cluster is a design the school's laboratory cannot execute at the needed precision. Half an hour on apparatus, tolerances and temperature control saves a fortnight of wasted data collection.

The comparison that collapses

Academic City, Silicon Oasis, Mirdif and International City differ in school run and laboratory access, and not at all in the supply of Higher Level chemistry specialists. The timing differences are worth planning around; the geography is not worth paying for.

Rates published and attributed

Every AED figure on this page names the provider who published it and the month it was read. Three of the six leading pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote dollars, which UAE families do not pay in.

A firm line on the investigation

The student chooses, designs, measures, processes and writes. We test feasibility, explain criteria, question the design and comment on drafts. An operator in these search results sells completed investigations; the malpractice finding from that lands on the candidate.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai International Academic City: your questions answered

Can I get an IB chemistry tutor in Dubai International Academic City?+

Yes, as one-to-one online tuition rather than a tutor coming to your address, since IB Gram offers home visits only in India. For chemistry the online route is a straightforward advantage here. Academic City's own secondary runs the British route, the nearest Diploma chemistry teaching is in Silicon Oasis, and the local pool of tutors who teach the subject at Higher Level is effectively empty. Matching online lets us choose on whether the tutor can coach organic mechanisms and investigation uncertainty.

Is Mirdif or Academic City better for a Diploma chemistry student?+

Mirdif marginally, for two logistical reasons: Uptown International School runs the IB continuum inside the district so the school run is short, and getting back into the laboratory for an extra set of investigation readings is easier. Neither advantage touches the thing that decides the grade. Neither neighbourhood - nor Silicon Oasis, nor International City - contains a usable local choice of Higher Level chemistry specialists, because that supply is set across the emirate rather than district by district.

Why does my son lose chemistry marks across the whole paper?+

Almost certainly stoichiometry. Mole calculations sit inside questions in every theme, so a student who has to reconstruct the relationship between mass, moles and molar mass each time is spending working memory on arithmetic instead of on the chemistry the question is about. The diagnostic takes two minutes: give a three-step mole problem and watch where he stops. The fix is short calculation sets every session for six to eight weeks, run alongside whatever the class is covering.

My daughter understands organic chemistry but loses mechanism marks. Why?+

Conventions, which mark schemes credit individually. The curly arrow must start from the bond or the lone pair rather than from the atom, lone pairs must be shown where they matter, formal charges must appear on intermediates, and partial charges must be marked on polarised bonds. An arrow from the wrong origin loses the arrow mark even when the product is right. Drawing nucleophilic substitution and electrophilic addition ten times each, with the conventions checked, fixes it in about a month.

How should a student approach a spectroscopy question?+

In a fixed order, which is the whole technique. Molecular formula from the mass spectrum first, then functional groups from the infrared, then connectivity and the number of environments from the nuclear magnetic resonance data. Students who work in that order arrive at the structure reliably; students who look at all three spectra simultaneously usually do not. It is a procedure rather than knowledge, which means it responds to a handful of worked examples rather than to more revision.

What goes wrong with chemistry investigations in this part of Dubai?+

Feasibility, far more often than analysis. A rates design with no reliable way to time the endpoint. A temperature study with no water bath, so the temperature drifts during the run. A titration with no suitable indicator or with glassware whose tolerance makes the final uncertainty unacceptable. All of these are discovered after a week of data collection unless somebody asks what the school actually has beforehand. That conversation takes half an hour.

How do the 24 investigation marks work in chemistry?+

Four criteria of six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The equal weighting matters because research design is settled before any measurement and cannot be rescued later. In chemistry the data-analysis criterion rewards uncertainty propagated properly through a concentration calculation, which means knowing the burette and pipette tolerances rather than estimating them, and the evaluation criterion rewards naming the dominant uncertainty source and proposing one specific change.

What may a tutor do with my child's chemistry investigation draft?+

Within a firm boundary. A tutor can test whether the design is executable with the school's apparatus, explain what each criterion rewards, question the method, teach uncertainty treatment on your child's own measurements, and read and comment on drafts. A tutor cannot choose the research question, design the method, supply or process data, or provide text. The test is whether your child could explain, without notes, why every number and sentence is there. A malpractice finding falls on the candidate.

Is Higher Level chemistry essential for a medicine application from Dubai?+

Higher Level chemistry is the standard requirement for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary science and chemical engineering, and some universities specify a minimum grade in it rather than merely requiring the subject. Read the published requirements for each institution and course during the first Diploma year, including the UAE universities, because dropping from Higher to Standard Level is generally possible later while moving up usually is not. Also consider the load: Higher Level chemistry with Higher Level biology and mathematics is a demanding two years.

What extra content does Higher Level chemistry add?+

Not an even spread. Organic chemistry expands considerably with more reaction types and synthesis route planning. Equilibrium and acid-base work becomes quantitative, with equilibrium constant and pKa calculations. Energetics adds entropy and free energy. Electrochemistry adds cell potentials. Spectroscopic structure determination appears. The mathematical demand rises throughout, which is why stoichiometry fluency matters more at Higher Level than at Standard, not less, despite the content being more conceptually interesting.

My child came from a CBSE school in Al Warqa. What will be different?+

Usually the calculations are strong and the writing is not, which is a narrow and quickly addressed gap. Students arriving from Indian-curriculum schools tend to handle stoichiometry confidently and then lose marks by describing a trend rather than attributing it to nuclear charge and shielding, and by drawing mechanisms without the conventions the mark scheme credits. Three sessions on explanation structure and a month of mechanism practice usually closes most of the distance.

When should chemistry support start to avoid the February collision?+

The first term of the first Diploma year, for stoichiometry, before the gap starts costing marks in energetics and equilibrium. Mechanism work as the organic content is taught rather than in revision. Investigation feasibility checked and data collected before mock preparation begins. In most schools in this cluster the investigation deadline, the Extended Essay submission, the Theory of Knowledge essay and the mocks all land within a few weeks in January and February, and chemistry is rarely the piece that gets sacrificed happily.

How much does Higher Level chemistry tutoring cost in eastern Dubai?+

Market figures read in October 2026 and attributed to the providers publishing them: qualified subject tutors online at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200; IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270; premium named tutors at AED 500 to 650, with BartyED at AED 650; in-home one-to-one with travel at AED 180 to 500. The band below AED 100 is usable for Standard Level content and rarely contains anybody who coaches Higher Level organic.

Does a chemistry tutor working in Dubai need a permit?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, so it cannot legitimately be priced into a rate. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any figure quoted at you as unverified. Ask the person teaching your child whether they hold a current permit and ask to see it.

What happens if no Higher Level chemistry tutor is available?+

You hear it at the enquiry stage rather than discovering it in session three. Higher Level chemistry demand across Dubai concentrates in the fortnight either side of mock examinations, and that is when we are most likely to be unable to staff it well. In that case we give a realistic wait, or we decline. What we will not do is put a Standard Level tutor in front of a Higher Level candidate and rely on a pleasant first lesson to carry the arrangement.

One marked paper and a three-step mole problem

If your child is taking IB chemistry and you live in Dubai International Academic City, Silicon Oasis, Mirdif, Al Warqa or International City, two small things tell us most of what we need. A recent marked paper shows whether the marks are going on arithmetic, on explanation or on mechanism conventions. A three-step mole calculation shows whether stoichiometry is automatic. Tell us the level, the school and the theme the class is on, and we will say honestly whether a specialist is free and what the next eight sessions should contain. The trial lesson is free; lessons are one-to-one and online on Gulf Standard Time.
