IB Tutor near me in Umm Suqeim

Typing "IB tutor near me" from a villa in Umm Suqeim is really asking one question: is there anybody within reach who actually knows this syllabus? This page answers it honestly rather than flatteringly. It explains how small the specialist pool is in Dubai, how to interrogate a tutor's IB knowledge in ten minutes, and why the sensible answer is a one-to-one lesson over live video in Gulf Standard Time rather than the nearest available person.

  • Ten questions that expose whether a tutor really knows the syllabus
  • Component weightings published per subject, HL and SL separately
  • Coverage limits disclosed, including when we cannot help
  • Tutors teach and give feedback; the IA stays the student's own work

The honest answer to "is there anybody near me who knows this syllabus?"

Most tutoring pages respond to a "near me" search by implying abundance: a large local team, immediate availability, somebody just around the corner. That answer is comfortable and it is usually false. The number of people in Dubai who can teach IB Chemistry Higher Level to a student aiming at a 7 - which means knowing the current guide, the Paper 2 mark scheme phrasing and the Internal Assessment criteria - is small. Not secret, not hidden behind the right search query. Small. The honest version of a "near me" page starts there.

Dubai's private-school market had 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, and International Baccalaureate schools account for 7% of that enrolment. The UK curriculum accounts for 37% and the Indian curriculum 26%. So the IB cohort in this city is a minority, and the teaching population that serves it is proportionally smaller still. Once you divide that population by subject and by level - HL Chemistry is a different competence from SL Biology - the pool for any specific request is measured in individuals rather than in dozens.

Now add the "near me" filter. Umm Suqeim sits between Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road, and requiring a tutor who can be in your living room by 5pm on a Tuesday means requiring someone who both teaches your subject at your level and lives or works within a short drive. Those two conditions are independent, and multiplying them together is how families end up with a well-meaning general science tutor teaching a subject they last studied a decade ago. The grade does not move, and the family concludes that tutoring does not work.

IB Gram's position is to drop the geographic condition and keep the subject one. Tuition into Umm Suqeim is delivered one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE - home visits are a service we offer in India only - and that is a deliberate trade rather than a limitation we are shy about. It means the answer to "is there anybody who knows this syllabus" can be yes without also requiring them to be eleven minutes away.

The rest of this page is built to be used rather than admired. There is a list of questions that will expose a tutor's actual IB knowledge in a short conversation, a table of component weightings by subject and level so you can check an answer yourself, the Dubai market rates with every figure attributed and dated so you can verify them, the academic-honesty boundary around the Internal Assessment and Extended Essay stated plainly, what KHDA does and what the word approved cannot mean here, and a disclosure of the subjects where we genuinely cannot always help.

At a glance

  • IB is a minority curriculum in Dubai at 7% of private-school enrolment
  • Subject and level together, not proximity, determine whether a tutor can help
  • Ten interrogation questions in this page will separate specialists from generalists
  • Market rates: AED 150-300 online qualified, AED 200-450+ for IB specialists
  • A tutor may teach and give feedback on an IA; writing any part of it is malpractice
  • No provider holds KHDA, Ministry of Education or IB approval for private tutoring
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Umm Suqeim family searching for an IB tutor is usually in one of three places: a child in the Diploma Programme now, a child in MYP 5 choosing routes, or a younger child in an IB continuum school. The programmes work differently enough that the tutoring question differs too.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects from six groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Scored out of 45 points, with up to three points available from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay combination. Assessment is largely external, with an Internal Assessment component in nearly every subject.

This is where almost every IB tutoring enquiry from Umm Suqeim originates, and almost always for a Higher Level science or Mathematics. UAE schools sit the May session. Confirm every session and results date with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org, because dates change and no date on a tutoring page should be acted on without that check.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Five years and eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria marked out of 8, converted to a 1-7 grade by school boundaries. There are no past papers in the IGCSE sense, so tutoring works from descriptors and task-specific clarifications rather than from question banks. MYP 5 includes the Personal Project.

Several schools within a short drive of Umm Suqeim run the MYP, and the practical issue for families here is that MYP criterion marks do not translate into the percentage language parents expect. A tutor who cannot discuss criteria by name is not equipped for MYP work regardless of how well they know the subject content.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with no external examinations and descriptive rather than numerical reporting. It ends with the Year 6 Exhibition, the first extended independent inquiry most children attempt. Tutoring at this stage is rarely about content and usually about writing volume, number fluency or reading stamina.

Umm Suqeim families in PYP schools tend to approach tutoring later than their British-curriculum neighbours, partly because PYP reporting does not produce an alarming number. The useful early intervention here is writing practice, since the volume demanded in MYP Criterion C surprises children who arrived from a PYP classroom.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

DP courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Rare in Dubai, and worth checking against the current KHDA school listing rather than an older guide, because availability changes from year to year.

Where the CP is offered near Umm Suqeim, the tutoring need is usually narrower than for the full Diploma: one or two DP courses plus support on the reflective project, which is assessed on process in a similar way to the MYP Personal Project. The same academic-honesty boundary applies to the reflective project as to any assessed work.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the DP subjects we are asked for most from this part of Dubai, with the assessment structure in brief. Use these descriptions to test a prospective tutor: a specialist will correct or extend them without hesitating.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

At SL the two papers carry 40% each with the Internal Assessment at 20%. At HL there are three papers at 30%, 30% and 20% plus the IA at 20%, and Paper 3 is the extended-response investigation most HL students under-prepare for because it looks unlike anything in the textbook.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Technology-rich and modelling-led, with the same paper weightings pattern as Analysis and Approaches. The route choice between AA and AI matters for university prerequisites, so check the target course rather than the school's default advice, particularly for engineering and economics.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Paper 1 carries 36% and includes a multiple-choice section and a data-based section; Paper 2 carries 44%; the Internal Assessment carries 20%. Organic mechanisms and energetics calculations are the predictable HL losses, and the IA is where the most marks are recoverable with coaching that stays on the right side of academic honesty.

Physics

HL and SL

Same component pattern as Chemistry: Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44%, Internal Assessment at 20%. Students lose marks less on the physics than on the extended written answers, where a correct chain of reasoning has to be visible rather than implied, and on uncertainties in the practical write-up.

Biology

HL and SL

The highest-content DP science, with the same 36/44/20 component split. The failure mode is almost always command words: 'outline', 'explain', 'distinguish' and 'evaluate' demand different structures, and a correct fact in the wrong structure earns nothing on the mark scheme.

English Language and Literature

HL and SL

At SL the two papers carry 35% each with the Individual Oral at 30%. At HL Paper 1 is 35%, Paper 2 is 25%, the HL Essay is 20% and the Individual Oral is 20%. The HL Essay is a formal written task on a studied text and is a frequent source of academic-honesty confusion.

Economics

HL and SL

At SL Paper 1 is 30%, Paper 2 is 40% and the Internal Assessment portfolio is 30%. At HL a third paper carrying 30% is added alongside Papers 1 and 2 and the IA at 20%. The IA portfolio of commentaries on real news articles is where organised students gain the most ground.

History

HL and SL

At SL Paper 1 is 30%, Paper 2 is 45% and the Internal Assessment is 25%. At HL Paper 3 is added and the weightings shift. Paper 1 is a source-based paper with a specific question structure, and it is the component most improved by technique work rather than by additional reading.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all DP students

Assessed through the exhibition and a prescribed-title essay, and contributing to the core points on the 45-point scale alongside the Extended Essay. Tutoring here is argument construction and the discipline of using real-world examples precisely; the essay itself must be entirely the student's own.

Extended Essay

Core, all DP students

A 4,000-word independent research essay in a chosen subject, supervised at school. A tutor may teach research method, question formulation, structure and referencing, and may ask the questions a supervisor will ask. A tutor may not research it, draft it, rewrite it or edit it into shape.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working make sense for a DP student in Umm Suqeim, and the right one depends on whether the problem is a subject, a component or the core. All are delivered one-to-one over live video.

Weekly one-to-one in one DP subject at one level

A single subject at a single level with the same tutor each week. The level matters as much as the subject: HL Chemistry and SL Chemistry share content but differ in depth, paper demand and what a 7 requires. Work is built from the student's own marked papers and the current subject guide rather than from a generic scheme.

  • Matched on subject and level together, never on subject alone
  • Sessions timed to Gulf Standard Time after the commute home
  • Written feedback naming the component and the mark-scheme point missed
  • Pauses available around school internal assessment deadlines

Component-focused block

A short run of sessions aimed at one assessment component - HL Mathematics Paper 3, Physics extended response, History Paper 1 sources, the Economics IA portfolio. Useful when a student's overall understanding is sound and one component keeps dragging the predicted grade down.

  • Two to six sessions on a single component
  • Worked entirely from past-paper responses and mark schemes
  • Ends with a measurable change on that component, or an honest no
  • Repeatable per component without weekly commitment

IA and core process coaching

Support on the Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay, delivered as teaching and questioning on the student's own work. The tutor explains criteria, interrogates a research question, points at where a draft fails a criterion, and stops there. Nothing is written, rewritten or edited for the student.

  • Criteria explained in the IB's own terms, with boundaries agreed first
  • Research questions stress-tested before weeks are spent on them
  • Feedback phrased as questions, not as replacement text
  • No drafting, ghost-writing or editing to completion, ever

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Umm Suqeim

01

Why "near me" is the wrong filter for an IB request

An IB tutor near me in Umm Suqeim is a search with two conditions buried in it, and they pull against each other. The first condition is competence: someone who teaches your child's subject at your child's level and knows the current assessment structure. The second is proximity: someone who can be here. Each condition reduces the pool, and applying both at once reduces it multiplicatively rather than additively.

Start with the size of the IB population in this city. Dubai had 387,441 private-school students across 227 schools in 2024-25 across 17 curricula, with International Baccalaureate schools accounting for 7% of enrolment. Divide the teaching population serving that 7% by subject group, then by Higher and Standard Level, and any one request - HL Chemistry, HL Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, SL History - resolves to a handful of genuinely qualified people spread across the whole emirate.

Now apply the proximity filter. The qualified people are distributed by where they teach, which means Al Sufouh, Al Barsha, Emirates Hills and the Dubai schools corridor rather than evenly across residential neighbourhoods. The chance that one of them lives near Umm Suqeim, teaches your subject at your level, and is free in your one usable evening slot is low. The chance that someone nearby will cheerfully say yes anyway is high, and that is the failure this page exists to prevent.

So the honest recommendation is to drop proximity as a requirement and hold competence as an absolute. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition into Umm Suqeim over live video in Gulf Standard Time for that reason, and does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE - home visits are an India-only service. What follows is how to check competence yourself, which is more useful than any assurance we could give you.

02

Ten minutes of questions that separate an IB specialist from a confident generalist

You do not need to know the syllabus to test whether somebody else does. You need questions with checkable answers. The table below gives ten, with what a specialist says and what a generalist says, and you can run it in a trial lesson or a phone call. The component weightings in the next section let you verify several of the answers independently.

The underlying principle is that IB specialists talk in components and criteria, and generalists talk in topics. Ask about a grade and a generalist will describe content coverage; a specialist will ask which paper the marks are being lost on and whether the Internal Assessment is banked. Ask about the Internal Assessment and a generalist will offer to help with it in unspecified terms; a specialist will immediately tell you what they will and will not do, because the boundary is the first thing anyone working legitimately in IB tutoring learns.

Two of the questions in the table are deliberately traps. If a tutor claims to be IB approved, accredited or certified, that claim is not available to private tutors - the IB authorises schools, not tutoring providers - and a tutor making it is either confused or careless about a claim a UAE regulator would take seriously. Similarly, a tutor who says they can get your child a 7, or who promises a fixed uplift in points, has told you something important: that they are comfortable promising an outcome no honest teacher can control.

Run the questions on us as well. The answers we would give are the ones in the specialist column, and if a tutor we match cannot give them, that is a matching failure we want to hear about rather than defend.

03

Component weightings you can check an answer against

This table exists so that the questions in the previous section are usable. It sets out the component structure for the DP subjects most requested from this area, with Higher and Standard Level shown separately, because the difference between the two is the single quickest way to catch a tutor who has only taught one of them.

Read it with the predicted-grade conversation in mind. If a student is predicted a 5 in HL Chemistry and the Internal Assessment is worth 20%, then an IA sitting at a low band is costing a fifth of the grade regardless of how well the papers go - and the IA, unlike Paper 2, is still in the student's hands. That arithmetic is where tutoring decisions should be made, and it is invisible if you are thinking about the subject as one undifferentiated grade.

The same logic applies to the HL extras. HL Mathematics adds a third paper worth 20%, HL English Language and Literature adds an HL Essay worth 20%, HL Economics and HL History add a third paper carrying a substantial share. Those additions are the components most often neglected, because they are unlike anything in the SL course and arrive late. A student losing ground specifically on an HL extra needs a short component block, not a general subject tutor.

Treat the figures here as a checking tool and confirm the current guide with the school, since the IB revises subject guides on a rolling cycle and a weighting can change between cohorts. Any tutor who cannot tell you which guide version they teach from is a tutor whose material may be two syllabuses old.

What the Dubai market charges, and how to verify it yourself

Everything in this section is checkable, which is the point. Each figure below was read from the provider's own published page during the October 2026 research round, and you can open the same pages and compare. Three of the six best-ranking pages in this search cluster publish no price at all, and two of those that do quote in US dollars rather than in the currency a UAE family transacts in, so an attributed AED figure is genuinely rare here.

The published bands run as follows. Budget online tutoring and university-student tutors: AED 45-150, with EdFlik from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. Qualified subject tutor working online: AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one with travel included: AED 180-500, with Bestimate quoting AED 180-350 and independent home tutors asking AED 200-500. IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists: AED 200-450 and upwards, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. Premium named or examiner-led tutors: AED 500-650 and upwards, BartyED publishing AED 650. Monthly packages seen in the market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

What a parent can establish independently, without trusting anybody's marketing: ask for the rate per 60 minutes rather than per lesson, since a 45-minute lesson at AED 200 is a different price from an hour at AED 200. Ask whether VAT is included. Ask what happens to a session cancelled at short notice, in writing. Ask whether the tutor teaches your exact subject at your exact level and which guide version. Ask about the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years through MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service. Five questions, all verifiable, none of which require you to know anything about the IB.

For context on what these figures represent in a household budget, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Tutoring is the part of the education budget that is not capped, which is a reason to buy it deliberately rather than by volume. These are market rates, not IB Gram's price list; our own arrangement starts with a free trial lesson and a consultation.

The Internal Assessment and Extended Essay boundary, stated plainly

  • Teaching, questioning and criterion feedback: legitimate and valuable
  • Drafting, rewriting, researching or editing to completion: malpractice
  • The risk falls on the student, who authenticates the work
  • Ask any provider to state the boundary before you book
  • Completed assessed work sold as a product is never safe to buy

This is the section that should decide which provider an Umm Suqeim family uses, and it is the section most pages in this market avoid. Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay must be the student's own work. A tutor may teach the skills, explain the criteria, interrogate a research question, ask why a paragraph is there, and point at where a draft currently fails a criterion. A tutor may not research the work, draft it, rewrite sentences, restructure it for the student, or edit it to a standard the student could not reach alone.

The distinction is practical rather than philosophical. Saying "your methodology section does not explain why you controlled for temperature, and criterion wording asks for justified choices" is teaching. Rewriting the methodology section is malpractice. Asking "what does this graph actually show that your conclusion does not mention?" is teaching. Writing the conclusion is malpractice. A tutor who cannot articulate that line in the first conversation should not be near an IA.

The exposure sits with the student, which is why this matters more than a provider's reputation. An IB academic-honesty investigation can cost a candidate their diploma, and the work is submitted under their name with their supervisor's authentication. A family buying "IA help" without asking what that means is buying a risk on their child's behalf. There are operators in this market selling completed Internal Assessments outright at published prices; that is an academic-integrity breach and an IB malpractice trigger, and no amount of discretion makes it safe.

What a legitimate tutor adds to IA work is substantial and worth paying for. The criteria are specific and most students never read them properly. Research questions that are too broad waste weeks. Data that was collected without a plan cannot be analysed. Reflection that says nothing scores nothing. All of that is teachable, all of it moves marks, and none of it requires anybody else's words on the page.

06

KHDA, the regulators, and what "approved" cannot mean for a tutor

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under ADEK, Sharjah under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah under its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the federal Ministry of Education. Those five bodies are the complete regulator map, and ADEK in particular is named by almost nobody in this market.

What KHDA regulates is schools. It inspects them annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, publishes the reports, and operates a permit regime for training institutes with premises - a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which requires initial approval, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. That permit is a specific thing issued to specific organisations. It is not something an individual online tutor holds, and "KHDA-approved tutor" is a phrase that should make a parent suspicious rather than reassured.

The permit that does apply to individual tutoring is MoHRE's. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any specific amount circulating online is unverified.

One further rule is worth knowing because it affects who you should not hire. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Treat the detail as press-reported and verify it against current policy, but the direction is clear: your child's own teacher, privately, is not the arrangement to seek. IB Gram claims no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson.

Starting from Umm Suqeim, including the subjects we cannot always cover

  • Send subject, level, predicted grade and IA stage; a marked paper if you have one
  • Free full-length trial lesson before any payment
  • Weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, usually 5pm or later for a Umm Suqeim commute
  • Coverage limits disclosed, including a straight no when that is the answer
  • Rematch on request, no case to argue

The first step is a short message with four things in it: the subject, the level, the current predicted or recent grade, and where the Internal Assessment stands. If you have a marked paper, send it. That combination tells us whether the request is a subject problem, a component problem or a core problem, and those need different tutors rather than different amounts of the same tutor.

What happens next is deliberately unexciting. We match on subject and level; you take a full-length trial lesson at no cost with your child's own work on screen; you decide. Sessions then sit in a weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, usually from 5pm onwards for a student commuting back from Al Sufouh or Al Barsha. Timings move to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan and can pause around internal deadlines. If the match is wrong you say so and it changes.

The disclosure, which this market generally does not make: we cannot always help. Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches in the weeks before the May session is the hardest request to fill. Some group-two languages, Theatre, Music, Global Politics and Design Technology are thinly covered. A request in April for a rare HL subject may be answered with a waiting position rather than a tutor. When that is the situation we will say so, because the alternative is placing somebody who is learning the component alongside your child while you pay specialist rates. No competitor page in this cluster discloses a coverage limit at all, which is informative in itself.

And the fixed limits. No home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. No claimed approval or partnership from any regulator or examination board. No writing, drafting or editing of Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, Theory of Knowledge essays or any assessed work. No supplied past papers, mark schemes or syllabus documents - we reference the official sources and work from your school's own materials. No grade promises, no guaranteed improvements, and no statistics about our own results, because we are not able to publish the sample, date and method that would make such a figure meaningful.

Where we tutor

Umm Suqeim and the areas that share its IB cohort

These notes describe where the IB families around Umm Suqeim actually are and which gates they use, because the useful local detail for an IB page is school distribution rather than driving distance.

Umm Suqeim

Three sections of villas between the beach road and Al Wasl Road, with its own school gates and a short drive to several more. The IB families here are a minority among British-curriculum neighbours, which is why local word-of-mouth recommendations are often for IGCSE tutors.

Al Sufouh

South-west towards Knowledge Park and Media City, with large campuses including full IB continuum schools. This is where the nearest concentration of IB teaching actually sits, and where many Umm Suqeim DP students travel each morning.

Jumeirah 3 and Al Manara

The next strip towards town, feeding several of the same gates. IB density here is similar to Umm Suqeim, so the two areas face the same specialist shortage and the same solution.

Al Safa

Inland across Al Wasl Road with quick access to Sheikh Zayed Road, and home to an IB continuum school as well as British-curriculum gates. A useful reminder that two schools a few streets apart can be running completely different assessment systems.

Al Barsha

Inland beyond Sheikh Zayed Road, with a dense cluster of large schools including IB Diploma providers. Umm Suqeim students at these gates have the longest commute and the latest realistic session start in the evening.

Al Quoz

Mostly commercial and industrial with pockets of schooling and many activity centres. Relevant to IB families mainly as the place a Creativity, Activity, Service commitment tends to be, which eats one weekday evening.

Palm Jumeirah

Offshore from the Al Sufouh coast, with families whose children commute inland to IB schools. The commute makes an online session after 5:30pm far more practical than any arrangement involving a second journey.

Emirates Hills and the Springs

Further inland along Sheikh Zayed Road, with a long-established IB Diploma presence. Umm Suqeim parents frequently hear tutor recommendations from this cluster, and they travel well precisely because nobody is driving anywhere.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Umm Suqeim

Umm Suqeim, Al Safa and Jumeirah

The closest gates, with a mix of British-curriculum and IB continuum schools in the same streets. The practical consequence for an IB family here is that a neighbour's excellent tutor recommendation may be for a completely different assessment system. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; no affiliation is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the four facts

Subject, level, current predicted grade and where the Internal Assessment stands. Those four lines determine whether you need a subject tutor, a component block or core coaching, and they prevent a first session spent working out something you already knew.

  2. 02

    Attach a marked paper

One marked past paper or mock, with the examiner or teacher marks visible, is worth more than any description. It shows whether marks are going on content, on command words or on timing, which is the difference between three different tutoring plans.

  3. 03

Interrogate the tutor on the trial

Use the ten questions on this page during the free trial lesson. A specialist will name components and weightings without hesitating and will state the Internal Assessment boundary before you ask. That conversation is the real test, not the teaching style.

  4. 04

Set the weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time

Pick a time that survives the commute home from Al Sufouh, Al Barsha or Emirates Hills, usually 5pm or later. Consistency matters more than length: a reliable hour each week beats a long session that moves twice a month.

  5. 05

    Review against components, not impressions

Every six to eight weeks, compare marked work on the same component before and after. If the component has not moved, the options are a different tutor, a different component or stopping. We will recommend stopping when stopping is right.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on subject and level together

HL Chemistry and SL Chemistry are different teaching jobs, and so are HL and SL Mathematics. Matching on the subject alone is how families end up paying specialist rates for general subject confidence, and it is the single commonest failure in this market.

The whole specialist pool, not the nearby fraction

Online delivery removes the proximity condition, which in a curriculum representing 7% of Dubai enrolment is the condition that makes a request unfillable. The result is access to people who could not possibly reach Umm Suqeim by 5pm.

Figures you can check

Every AED rate on this page is attributed to the provider that published it and dated to when it was read. Three of the six best-ranking pages in this cluster publish no price at all, so verifying ours against theirs is a short exercise with a clear outcome.

The academic-honesty line stated before you ask

Tutors teach, question and give criterion feedback on Internal Assessments and the Extended Essay. They do not draft, rewrite or edit them. Operators in this market sell completed assessed work outright; the risk of that lands on your child, not on them.

Regulators explained, never claimed

We describe what KHDA inspects, what the KHDA training-institute permit actually is, and what the MoHRE private tuition permit requires. We claim no approval or partnership from any of them, and we would treat a provider who does as a warning rather than a credential.

Coverage limits published

Some HL subjects and group-two languages are thin, and exam season is worse. You get told that rather than placed with somebody learning the component alongside your child. No competitor page in this cluster discloses a limit at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Umm Suqeim: your questions answered

Is there actually an IB tutor near Umm Suqeim who knows my child's exact subject and level?+

Possibly, but it is the wrong thing to require. International Baccalaureate schools account for 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment, so the teaching population serving the IB here is a minority of a minority, and once you split it by subject and by Higher or Standard Level any single request resolves to a handful of people spread across the emirate. Adding a requirement that one of them lives near Umm Suqeim and is free in your one usable evening slot usually empties the list. Dropping the proximity condition and holding the subject-and-level condition is what makes a real specialist available.

How can I tell whether a tutor really knows the IB or just knows the subject?+

Ask what each component is worth. A specialist names the papers and percentages for the right level without pausing, says whether the weightings differ at Higher and Standard, gives the Internal Assessment percentage and names its criteria, and states exactly what they will and will not do on the IA before you ask. A generalist talks about topics, describes the IA as coursework, and offers unspecified help with it. The ten questions in the table on this page are designed for a ten-minute conversation and the component weightings table lets you check several answers yourself.

Can a tutor be IB approved or IB certified?+

No, and a tutor claiming it has told you something useful. The IB authorises schools to deliver its programmes; it does not approve, accredit or certify private tutors or tutoring companies. Nor do KHDA, ADEK, the Sharjah Private Education Authority or the Ministry of Education approve individual tutors. KHDA issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises, which is a specific licence for a specific kind of organisation. The permit that applies to an individual tutor in the UAE is MoHRE's private tuition work permit. IB Gram claims no approval or partnership from any of these bodies.

My child is predicted a 5 in an HL science. Where do the extra marks realistically come from?+

Start with the Internal Assessment, because it is worth 20% in the DP sciences and is the only component still fully in the student's hands. An IA sitting in a low band caps the grade regardless of paper performance. After that, look at which paper is losing marks: Paper 1 is 36% and Paper 2 is 44% in the current science guides, and the failure in Paper 2 is usually extended-response structure rather than content. A tutor who cannot tell you which of those three blocks is costing you the grade is not in a position to recover it.

What exactly can a tutor do on my child's Internal Assessment?+

Teach the skills, explain the criteria, stress-test the research question, ask why a section is there, and point at where a draft currently fails a criterion. That is substantial work and it moves marks, because most students never read the criteria properly and most research questions start too broad. What a tutor must not do is research it, draft it, rewrite sentences, restructure it or edit it to a standard the student could not reach alone. The work is submitted under your child's name with their supervisor's authentication, so the malpractice exposure is theirs.

Which IB subjects are hardest to cover for a family in this area?+

Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches in the run-up to the May session is the hardest single request to fill. Group-two languages beyond the common ones, Theatre, Music, Global Politics and Design Technology are thinly covered year-round. A late request in a rare Higher Level subject may be answered with a waiting position rather than a tutor, and we will say so rather than place a generalist at specialist rates. No competitor page in this search cluster discloses a coverage limit, which is worth noticing when every provider you contact says yes immediately.

Does it matter that the tutor has never seen my child's school?+

Much less than families expect. What a tutor needs is the subject guide version, the component structure, the mark schemes and your child's own marked work - none of which depends on the building. School-specific knowledge matters for internal deadlines and for how a particular coordinator runs the Extended Essay process, and that information comes from your child and the school directly. Students we support attend IB schools along the coast and in the Al Sufouh and Al Barsha clusters, but IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them and would be wary of a provider implying otherwise.

Why is the HL extra paper such a common problem?+

Because it is unlike the rest of the course and arrives late. Higher Level Mathematics adds a Paper 3 worth 20% that is an extended investigation rather than a set of textbook questions. Higher Level English Language and Literature adds an HL Essay worth 20%, a formal written task on a studied text. Higher Level Economics and History add third papers carrying substantial weight and a different style of demand. Students who are competent across the shared content often arrive at these components with no practice at all, and a short component-focused block fixes more than a general subject tutor would in a term.

How much should an IB specialist cost per hour in Dubai?+

Published specialist rates sit at AED 200-450 and upwards, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai guidance putting IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists at AED 200-450 or more. A qualified subject tutor working online runs AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Premium named tutors reach AED 500-650, BartyED publishing AED 650. Every one of those is the provider's own published figure, read during the October 2026 research round, so you can open the pages and check. Ask for the rate per 60 minutes and whether VAT is included before comparing anything.

Which exam session do IB students in Dubai sit, and should I trust a date I find online?+

UAE schools sit the May session. On specific dates, the honest answer is that no date on any tutoring page should be acted upon, including this one. The IB publishes session and results dates on ibo.org and your school's IB coordinator holds the internal deadlines that matter more day to day - draft deadlines for the Internal Assessment, Extended Essay milestones, upload dates. Several pages in this market quote dates confidently from secondary sources. Confirm with the coordinator, diary the internal deadlines rather than the external ones, and treat any site quoting a precise results date as unverified.

Is one subject at a time enough, or should we cover several?+

One, in almost every case, and two at most. A DP student already has six subjects plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and a service commitment, and the week has no slack in it. Adding three weekly sessions usually means three sessions attended with nothing done between them. There is also a transfer effect worth relying on: command-word discipline and mark-scheme awareness learned properly in one subject improve performance in the others. If several subjects are genuinely weak at once, the conversation that helps is with the school about load, not with us about volume.

What should we do if the predicted grades came back lower than expected?+

Treat the predicted grades as data rather than as a verdict, and find out what they were built on. Ask which components the prediction used, whether the Internal Assessment mark was included or estimated, and which paper the marks are being lost on. A prediction based on a mock sat before half the course was taught says less than it appears to. Then decide by component: an unbanked Internal Assessment worth 20% is the most recoverable thing in the list, and paper technique is next. Buying a general tutor for a general worry is how families spend a term without moving anything.

Can a tutor help with Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay as well?+

Yes, with the same boundary that applies to the Internal Assessment. For Theory of Knowledge a tutor can teach argument construction, show how real-world examples are used precisely, and question whether a claim in a draft is actually supported. For the Extended Essay a tutor can teach research method, test whether a question is answerable in 4,000 words, explain referencing conventions and ask the questions the supervisor will ask. Neither the essay nor the exhibition commentary may be written, rewritten or edited by anyone other than the student. Agree that boundary explicitly in the first session.

What time can an IB session realistically start for a student commuting back to Umm Suqeim?+

Allow 5pm, and later if the gate is in Al Barsha or Emirates Hills. Secondary release across the Dubai schools corridor sits roughly between 2:45pm and 3:30pm, and a student travelling back to Umm Suqeim from Al Sufouh, Al Barsha or Emirates Hills arrives somewhere between 3:55pm and 4:35pm. Add changing, food and a break and the usable window opens around 5pm. Delivering the lesson over live video keeps that window intact, because there is no second journey and no dependency on how Sheikh Zayed Road is behaving at the time.

What would make you tell us not to book anything?+

Several situations, and we would rather say them than take the booking. If a student understands the content and simply is not doing the work, a tutor becomes an expensive supervisor and the problem survives. If four or five subjects are weak at once, the cause is usually load, sleep or something outside academics, and more sessions make the week worse. If a single mock dipped in a previously strong subject, wait for the next data point. And if a rare Higher Level subject is requested weeks before the session and we have nobody genuinely qualified, the answer is no rather than a generalist at specialist rates.

Ask the ten questions, then decide

If you are in Umm Suqeim looking for an IB tutor, the most useful thing on this page is not our pitch - it is the table of ten questions and the component weightings that let you check the answers. Use them on us and on anybody else you speak to. Send the subject, the level, the predicted grade and the Internal Assessment stage, take a free trial lesson, and judge the tutor on whether they talk in components and criteria or in topics. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, which is how the specialist pool stays open to you.
