IB Chemistry Tutor in Umm Suqeim

An IB chemistry tutor in Umm Suqeim is a scarce purchase rather than an expensive one, and that distinction decides what a family should pay. Higher Level chemistry specialists are thin on the ground in Dubai at the hours parents want, so this page prices the subject by component: what Paper 1, Paper 2 and the scientific investigation are each worth, and which of them paid hours can actually move. Delivered one-to-one over live video, first lesson free.

Why chemistry costs what it costs in this market, and what the money reaches

Chemistry is priced by scarcity in Dubai. The city has a large supply of science teachers and a much smaller supply of people who can prepare a Higher Level Diploma chemistry candidate for the current guide, read a marked Paper 2 and say which four marks are recoverable. That scarcity sits at particular hours, which is the part families discover late: the tutor exists, and the tutor is already teaching at six on a Tuesday.

The published Dubai bands are worth putting down plainly, because most pages in this market publish none. Budget online tutoring is advertised from roughly AED 45-150, with EdFlik listing from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52, as read on their own pages in October 2026. A qualified subject tutor online sits broadly AED 150-300, Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. An in-home one-to-one visit including travel is quoted at AED 180-500, Bestimate's own band being AED 180-350. IB and IGCSE specialists run AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. Those are market figures from those organisations, not our price list.

The useful question is not which band is cheapest but which band can move which component. Chemistry is assessed in three pieces: a paper of multiple choice and data-based questions, a paper of short and extended response, and a single scientific investigation marked internally and moderated externally. The investigation is a fifth of the grade. A budget tutor can rehearse content and will usually have nothing useful to say about the investigation criteria. A specialist can read a draft against four named criteria and tell you where six marks sit. Those are different purchases with different prices and different returns.

The second thing scarcity does is distort the in-home decision. The published in-home band runs to AED 500 an hour against AED 150-300 for a qualified tutor working online, and for a family in Umm Suqeim the premium is substantially the cost of someone crossing Dubai in evening traffic. In a subject with as few genuine Higher Level specialists as this one, insisting on a person in the room does not just add the premium: it narrows the choice to whoever is both qualified and within a twenty-minute drive, which in practice often means accepting a general science teacher at a specialist price.

IB Gram teaches UAE students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time and does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. The in-home figures above are included because the gap between them and the online band is the clearest number on this page, and because an Umm Suqeim family deciding how to spend two years of chemistry money deserves to see the premium before paying it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry appears in three different shapes before a Diploma grade is awarded, and each carries a different cost profile. The Diploma is externally examined with internal coursework. Middle Years science is criterion-marked with no examination. IGCSE science is the route many Umm Suqeim students arrive from.

Diploma Programme

Diploma chemistry runs at Standard or Higher Level, organised into three Structure themes and three Reactivity themes with a set of experimental, technological and mathematical tools threaded through them. Assessment is two written papers plus one scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade and marked against four criteria. A data booklet is provided in the examination, which changes what is worth memorising and what is worth practising.

In Dubai the Higher Level chemistry cohort at any one school is small, often a single class, which means a student who falls behind has nowhere inside the school to go for a different explanation. That is the structural reason tutoring demand concentrates here and the reason evening slots for Higher Level chemistry fill first across the city. Families in Umm Suqeim who wait until the first Diploma report to look are usually looking at the hours nobody else wanted.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Middle Years sciences are reported against four criteria on eight-point bands, with no terminal examination and therefore no past paper to practise. Chemistry content appears inside integrated science units rather than as a separate subject in most years, which is why students can arrive at the Diploma with strong scientific reasoning and no experience of sustained quantitative chemistry.

Schools in the Jumeirah and Al Sufouh corridor that run the Middle Years Programme to Year 11 send students into Diploma chemistry without an IGCSE-style quantitative grounding. The predictable consequence is the first-term collapse on moles and concentration work. Hours bought in the summer between Year 11 and Year 12 are the cheapest chemistry hours a family will ever buy, because they prevent a problem rather than repairing one.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE sciences

Cambridge 0620 and Pearson Edexcel 4CH1 chemistry, or the combined and co-ordinated science routes, are where most British-curriculum students in this neighbourhood meet chemistry formally. The Extended or Higher tier is the realistic prerequisite for Diploma chemistry at Higher Level, and a combined-science background is a genuine, closable gap rather than a disqualification.

An Umm Suqeim student arriving at Diploma chemistry from Co-ordinated Sciences rather than separate chemistry has met less organic chemistry, less quantitative work and fewer practical techniques. Schools here will usually accept them onto Standard Level and be cautious about Higher Level. The honest tutoring answer is a bridging block in the summer, priced as a finite number of hours, rather than two years of weekly catch-up.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the chemistry courses and the subjects whose grades move with the same skills. Families paying for chemistry and physics separately are sometimes paying twice for one problem, because the shared difficulty is proportional reasoning rather than either subject's content.

Chemistry

Higher Level

The full Structure and Reactivity content plus the additional higher level material, with longer papers and more extended response. The reliable pressure points are organic reaction pathways, equilibrium and acid-base calculations, and the electron-transfer content, where students who learned reactions as lists cannot answer a question framed as a mechanism.

Chemistry

Standard Level

The same six themes at reduced depth with shorter papers, and the same scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade. Students arriving from Co-ordinated Sciences find the quantitative work the unfamiliar part rather than the descriptive chemistry, and that is where the first term's marks go.

Biology

Higher Level and Standard Level

Shares the investigation model and the four marking criteria with chemistry, so a student doing both can prepare the coursework skills once. The biochemistry content also rewards chemical understanding, and students frequently lose biology marks on enzyme and respiration questions for chemical rather than biological reasons.

Physics

Higher Level and Standard Level

The other science with a data booklet and the same investigation structure. Where a student is losing marks in both chemistry and physics on calculation questions, the shared cause is usually rearrangement, logarithms and unit algebra, and one maths-focused hour serves both subjects more cheaply than two subject hours.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

Higher Level and Standard Level

Logarithms, exponentials and proportional reasoning underpin pH, equilibrium constants and kinetics. A chemistry student who cannot manipulate a logarithmic expression under time will concede the same marks in every series, and the repair belongs in a maths hour rather than a chemistry one.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

Higher Level and Standard Level

The route many Diploma chemistry students take, strong on statistics and modelling and lighter on algebraic manipulation. Useful for the investigation's data analysis criterion, and a known weak point for the algebra that equilibrium and acid-base work demands.

Environmental Systems and Societies

Standard Level

Taken by some students alongside or instead of a second science, with overlapping content on acidity, pollution and energy. Its assessment model differs from chemistry's, so a tutor should not assume the coursework skills transfer directly even though the subject matter sometimes does.

IGCSE Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 and Edexcel 4CH1, Core and Extended

The preparation route most Umm Suqeim students take. Moles, concentrations, yields and titration arithmetic are where able students concede marks, and these are exactly the skills the first Diploma term assumes are already secure.

IGCSE Co-ordinated and Combined Sciences

Cambridge 0654 and 0653

A single or double award covering all three sciences, with less chemistry depth than separate chemistry. The gap into Diploma chemistry is real and closable with a defined bridging block, and pretending it does not exist is the usual reason a student drops from Higher to Standard Level in the first term.

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Years 7-11, integrated and discrete

Criterion-marked on eight-point bands with no public examination. Worth preparing on criterion B and C, inquiring and designing and processing data, because those are the skills the Diploma investigation then marks under different names.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy Diploma chemistry support, described by what each one costs and what it can reach. All are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

A protected weekly hour, booked in September

The arrangement that secures a Higher Level specialist rather than an available tutor. Booked at the start of the Diploma year it costs the same per hour as one booked in February and buys a materially better match, because the specialist's evening slots are gone by half-term. Content runs a week ahead of the class.

  • Secures the person as well as the hour, which matters in a thin subject
  • Teaching ahead of the class, so school lessons consolidate rather than confuse
  • A short written note after each session naming what was covered and set
  • Reviewed each term, with reducing or stopping treated as normal

An investigation block, timed to the school's deadline

Three or four sessions in the term before the school's internal deadline for the scientific investigation, worth a fifth of the grade. The best-value purchase in Diploma chemistry, because twenty-four marks across four named criteria are reachable with planning and almost unreachable in a last fortnight.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own written draft
  • Teaching the chemistry and the technique the chosen investigation needs
  • Spread across weeks so the student writes between sessions
  • No drafting, no editing to completion, nothing the student did not write

A finite bridging block

Eight to twelve hours in the summer or the first term, bought to close a defined gap: Co-ordinated Sciences to Diploma chemistry, Middle Years science to quantitative chemistry, or Standard to Higher Level. Priced as a block with an end date, because an undefined catch-up arrangement runs for two years and never finishes.

  • A written list of the specific content being bridged
  • An agreed number of hours and an agreed end point
  • A short diagnostic at the end to confirm the gap has closed
  • Cheaper than a term of weekly lessons with no defined target

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Umm Suqeim

01

What you are actually paying for when you hire an IB chemistry tutor in Umm Suqeim

  • The scarce resource is a specialist at a workable hour, not money
  • Higher Level chemistry is usually a single class, with no internal fallback
  • Booking in September costs the same as February and matches better
  • Insisting on a local tutor narrows a thin pool to whoever is nearby

You are paying for scarcity at a particular hour. That sentence explains almost every pricing oddity a family meets in this subject. Dubai has plenty of chemistry graduates and plenty of experienced science teachers. It has far fewer people who have taught the current Diploma chemistry guide through a full two-year cycle, marked investigations against the four criteria, and read enough Paper 2 scripts to know where a Higher Level candidate's marks go.

Higher Level chemistry at a Dubai school is usually one class. There is no second teacher to ask for a different explanation, no parallel set to move into, and no cohort big enough for the school to run targeted intervention. When a student loses the thread in the equilibrium sequence, the school's options are limited and the family's first instinct is to buy an hour. That is a reasonable instinct, and it is why every specialist's weekday evening between five and seven is contested across the whole city by November.

The practical consequence is that the thing in short supply is not money but the combination of the right person and the right hour. A family that books in September pays the same rate as a family that books in February and gets a materially better match. A family that insists on a tutor within driving distance of Umm Suqeim pays a travel premium and reduces the pool to whoever is both qualified and local, which in a thin subject is frequently a general science teacher being paid at specialist rates.

So the spending advice on this page runs against the usual instinct. Do not shop for the cheapest hour and do not shop for the most expensive one. Shop early, specify Higher or Standard Level in the first message, and treat the specialist's availability as the scarce resource it is. The sections below price the subject component by component so you can see which hours are worth buying and which are being sold to you.

02

The published Dubai rate bands, and what each can reach in chemistry

Three of the six most visible pages in this market publish no price, and the two that do quote in dollars. The table below sets out what Dubai providers have actually published in dirhams, with each organisation named and the month the page was read, and then says what that band can realistically do for a Diploma chemistry student.

The key column is the last one. A budget tutor can rehearse content, keep a student company through homework and reteach a topic the class moved past. That is a real service and for some students it is the right one. What it cannot usually do is read a marked Paper 2 and name the four recoverable marks, or look at an investigation draft and say that the research design criterion is where six marks are sitting unclaimed. Those require familiarity with the current guide and the marking criteria.

The premium band deserves particular scepticism in chemistry, because examiner status is the claim most often used to justify it. Examiner status should be evidenced before it is paid for, and it should never be presented as access to marking, boundaries or paper content, because it is not. A tutor who implies otherwise is telling you something about their judgement.

The in-home row is the one to look at hardest. Published in-home rates run AED 180-500 including travel against AED 150-300 for a qualified tutor working online. For a Diploma chemistry student the premium buys presence in the room. It does not buy familiarity with the Structure and Reactivity organisation, and in this subject that is the variable that moves the grade.

Priced by component: where the chemistry grade actually sits

Parents are given weightings and almost never told which weighting responds to paid hours. Diploma chemistry is assessed in three pieces, and they are not equally movable. Spending the same money across them in equal shares is the most common inefficiency in this subject, and it usually means over-investing in content rehearsal and under-investing in the investigation.

Paper 1 combines multiple choice with data-based questions and rewards breadth, speed and confident use of the data booklet. It is the component where a student's gaps are most exposed and the one that responds most slowly to tutoring, because the fix is coverage across six themes rather than technique on one. Paper 2 carries short and extended response and rewards structured written chemistry: defining terms precisely, showing calculation steps, and answering the command term that was actually used. That is technique, and technique responds quickly to marking practice.

The scientific investigation is worth a fifth of the grade, is marked by the school against four criteria and moderated externally, and is the component most Dubai competitor pages never mention. Twenty-four marks sit there, divided evenly across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. A student working on it months ahead with criterion-specific feedback can bank marks that no amount of revision replaces; a student treating it as a last-fortnight task gives those marks away.

The practical conclusion is a spending order. Protect the investigation first because it is the cheapest marks per hour. Buy Paper 2 technique second because it responds fast. Treat Paper 1 coverage as the long-run job that a weekly hour across two years does and a crash block does not. Anybody selling a six-week programme that promises to move all three equally is describing a hope.

04

Higher Level against Standard Level, and the price difference in hours

The level decision has a direct cost. Higher Level chemistry carries additional content, longer papers and more extended response, and the extra teaching time in the school timetable is not matched by extra weeks in the year. For a tutoring budget that means a Higher Level student realistically needs either more hours or a longer run-up, and families who buy the same arrangement at both levels and expect the same result are mispricing the subject.

The honest test for the level is not a predicted grade but a marked script. A student who earns method marks on a Higher Level question they could not finish is at the right level; a student who cannot start the question is not, and discovering that in the first term is cheap while discovering it in the second year is not. Moving down from Higher to Standard Level is a decision for the school and its deadlines, and the evidence that supports the conversation is a marked paper rather than a view.

Most of the Higher Level pressure concentrates in three places. The equilibrium and acid-base content, where logarithmic manipulation defeats students who were never fluent in it. The energetics sequence, where Born-Haber style reasoning asks for a chain of steps held in order. And organic chemistry, where the additional reaction pathways turn a memorised list into something that must be reasoned through. Each of those is teachable and each takes weeks rather than days.

For university purposes, Higher Level chemistry is a common requirement for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and several engineering routes, and requirements vary by institution and are revised. Read the current published requirement on each university's own admissions page for the year your child applies. A tutor's job is to help you read it accurately, not to tell you what it says, and no tutor should imply that tutoring is required for an admissions outcome.

Organic chemistry, energetics, and the three places chemistry money gets wasted

  • Content rehearsal bought where the problem is written technique on Paper 2
  • Organic chemistry learned as a list of reagents rather than as sequences
  • The investigation designed and written in a final fortnight
  • Revision time spent memorising values the data booklet supplies
  • Specialist rates paid for homework supervision, or budget rates for criteria work

Waste in this subject has a recognisable shape. The first and largest form is paying for content rehearsal when the problem is written technique. A student who understands equilibrium and still loses Paper 2 marks is losing them to vague definitions, unshown steps and command terms they did not answer. Reteaching equilibrium a third time cannot fix that, and it is what most paid hours quietly go on.

The second is organic chemistry taught as a list. Students arrive having memorised reagents and conditions, which works for recall questions and fails the moment a question asks for a pathway or a mechanism. The fix is sequencing: learning which functional group converts to which, and why, so the student can construct a route they have not been shown. It takes several weeks and it is the single highest-yield block of teaching in Higher Level chemistry.

The third is the investigation left until the last fortnight. Twenty-four marks across four criteria, worth a fifth of the grade, and the common pattern is a student designing an experiment too large to control, collecting data they cannot analyse properly, and writing an evaluation that lists what went wrong without evaluating anything. Every part of that is preventable with three sessions at the right time, and none of it is repairable with three sessions at the wrong one.

A fourth, smaller leak worth naming: the data booklet. It is provided in the examination, which changes what is worth memorising. Students who spend revision time learning values they will be given are spending time they could have spent practising retrieval from the booklet under pressure. A tutor who does not know what the booklet contains is planning revision from the wrong premise.

06

The scientific investigation: 24 marks, four criteria, and what a tutor may do

This is the cheapest fifth of a chemistry grade to protect and the part of the course Dubai competitor pages almost never explain. The investigation is a single piece of work, marked by the school against four criteria and moderated externally, carrying twenty-four marks split evenly between research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Naming those four and their marks turns a vague anxiety into a checklist.

Each criterion fails in a predictable way. Research design loses marks where the question is too broad, the variables are not properly identified or the methodology would not actually produce usable data. Data analysis loses marks on uncertainty and processing rather than on arithmetic. Conclusion loses marks where a result is stated but not interpreted against the scientific context. Evaluation loses marks where the student lists limitations instead of weighing their effect and proposing a specific improvement.

The boundary on tutoring is firm and worth stating plainly, because two operators in this market cross it and one of them openly sells completed coursework. A tutor may teach the chemistry and the experimental technique the investigation needs. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards and what examiners mean by the terms used in it. A tutor may read a draft the student has written and give feedback on it. A tutor may not design the investigation for the student, may not write any part of the report, and may not edit it to completion.

Work submitted to the IB must be the student's own, and a breach is a malpractice matter for the candidate rather than an inconvenience for the tutor. That is why the investigation block here is short, early and spread: three or four sessions across the term before the school's internal deadline, with the student writing between them. Anybody offering to produce the document is offering to put your child's diploma at risk.

THE FOUR INVESTIGATION CRITERIA, HOW THEY FAIL, AND WHAT PAID HELP MAY DO

Research design6Question too broad, variables unclear, method would not yield usable dataTeach what a controlled design needs; critique the student's own plan

07

A two-year chemistry plan priced against the May session

Dubai schools sit the May Diploma session, and the useful way to budget is to count backwards from it rather than forwards from today. Because the IB blocks automated access to its own site, no specific examination or results date is quoted here, and any date a tutor gives you should be confirmed against the IB's own published assessment information or your school's IB coordinator before you plan around it.

What can be planned confidently is the shape. The first Diploma year is for teaching, and it is where a weekly hour earns the most because content can be met properly rather than patched. The investigation sits in the second half of the first year or the start of the second, driven by the school's internal deadline rather than by the examination. The final stretch is paper technique: timed papers, marked properly, with the plan following the script rather than the student's sense of which topics feel hard.

Priced out, a weekly hour across both Diploma years at the published qualified-online band of AED 150-300 is roughly seventy-two hours and a five-figure dirham commitment, which is why it deserves a term-by-term review rather than a standing order. An investigation block of four hours at the specialist band is a small fraction of that and protects a fifth of the grade. A final technique block of ten to twelve hours after a marked mock is the other high-return purchase. Those are derived figures on published bands, not a quote.

Context for the household budget: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. A year of flat fees is a better moment to commit to two years of chemistry support than the week after a disappointing report, and the planning is calmer.

08

Starting from Umm Suqeim, with the scarcity stated first

Say Higher or Standard Level in the first message, name the school, and name the hour your child is genuinely home and settled rather than the hour you hope for. Those three facts determine whether a specialist match exists, and sending them first saves a week. If you do not know which level, send the school and year and we will establish it before matching anyone.

The trial lesson is free and exists to produce a verdict rather than a relationship. A useful one ends with the tutor naming what is secure across the six themes, which component is currently costing the most, and whether the investigation has been started. If the feedback is encouragement without specifics, you have learned something about the term ahead at no cost.

On availability, the limit is stated rather than implied. Higher Level chemistry between five and seven on a weekday is the thinnest slot in the UAE schedule, and there are weeks when every specialist in it is teaching. We will tell you so and set out the options: a different hour with the specialist you want, the hour you want with a strong but less specialised tutor and the trade made explicit, or a place in the queue. Nobody is put in front of a Higher Level candidate on the grounds of being free.

After the trial the shape is a fixed weekly hour with a written note each time, an investigation block timed to the school's deadline, a timed paper under conditions once a term, and a review each term about whether the arrangement still earns its cost. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not provide in-home visits anywhere in the UAE, so the travel premium described above is not something you will ever be quoted here.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Umm Suqeim

Where a student lives in this part of Dubai changes which hours are realistically available to them, and in a scarce subject the hour available decides which tutor is available. These notes are about that rather than about the view.

Umm Suqeim 1

The city end of Beach Road, short runs to Jumeirah College and Jumeirah English Speaking School. An earlier finish means a 4.30pm chemistry slot is reachable, and earlier slots are the ones Higher Level specialists still have free in September.

Umm Suqeim 2

The middle strip between Beach Road and Al Wasl, with the least predictable arrival times in the neighbourhood. Families here should book from six o'clock rather than earlier, and should expect that hour to be contested across the whole city.

Umm Suqeim 3

The western end against Al Sufouh, with schools inside the community. Students at a school minutes from home can take a four o'clock slot, which in a scarce subject is a real advantage in choosing the tutor rather than the leftover hour.

Al Safa

Jumeirah Baccalaureate School and Horizon English School sit here. Diploma families from Al Safa often prefer a weekend double for chemistry, which suits organic reaction pathways and investigation drafting better than a single weekday hour.

Al Manara and Al Wasl

Inland of the coast road, quick to Safa and Al Barsha schools. Sibling timetables rather than traffic set the slot, and households running two Diploma candidates should expect to compete with themselves for the same evening hours.

Jumeirah 2 and Jumeirah 3

Older villa plots east of Umm Suqeim feeding the same coast-road schools. Short distances, slow weekday roads, so the realistic arrival time should be measured over a fortnight before a chemistry slot is committed to for two years.

Pearl Jumeira and La Mer

Newer coastal developments with longer runs inland. These are the addresses where the published in-home travel premium is widest, and where the argument for a specialist taught over video rather than a local generalist is strongest.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the level, the school and the real hour

Higher or Standard Level, the school, and the hour your child is actually home and settled. In a thin subject those three facts decide whether a specialist match exists at all, so they matter more than a description of the difficulty.

  2. 02

A free trial with a verdict attached

One hour with the tutor who would teach the slot, ending in a written note on which of the six themes are secure, which component is costing the most marks, and whether the scientific investigation has been started or is already late.

  3. 03

Protect the investigation before anything else

Twenty-four marks across four criteria are a fifth of the grade and the cheapest marks per hour in the course. The investigation block is scheduled against the school's internal deadline first, and the weekly teaching plan is built around it rather than over it.

  4. 04

Teach ahead, then test under conditions

Weekly teaching runs slightly ahead of the school's scheme so lessons consolidate rather than confuse. Once a term the student sits a past paper under timed conditions, marked properly, and the next term's plan follows the script rather than anyone's impression.

  5. 05

    Review the cost each term

A short conversation on what moved, what did not, and whether the hour still earns its place against the published bands on this page. Reducing, pausing for travel or examinations, and stopping outright are all normal results of that review.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced by component, not by promise

This page says which of the three assessment components paid hours can move quickly and which they cannot. That lets you spend on the investigation and on Paper 2 technique first, which is where the recoverable marks actually are.

Taught from the current guide

The Structure and Reactivity organisation and the single scientific investigation replaced an earlier assessment model, and some available tutors still teach from the old one. A tutor is proposed only where they have worked the guide your child is actually examined on.

Scarcity disclosed rather than hidden

Higher Level chemistry between five and seven on a weekday is the thinnest slot in the schedule. When it is full we say so and offer the real alternatives, instead of filling it with whoever is free and letting a mock script reveal the problem in the spring.

Investigation help that stays inside the rules

Teaching, criterion explanation and feedback on the student's own draft. No design handed over, no sections written, nothing edited to completion. The boundary is set out in writing before the block starts because the risk of crossing it falls on the candidate.

Rates you can verify yourself

Every AED band here is attributed to the organisation that published it with the month it was read, so you can check the market before discussing any quote. The in-home premium is shown rather than argued about.

No travel premium, because nobody travels

Teaching over live video removes the AED 180-500 in-home band from the decision and widens the pool to specialists who teach the current guide rather than to whoever is qualified and within a short drive of Umm Suqeim.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Umm Suqeim: your questions answered

What does an IB chemistry tutor cost per hour in Dubai in 2026?+

Published Dubai figures read in October 2026 put budget online tutoring from about AED 45-150, a qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150-300 with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200, in-home one-to-one at AED 180-500 including travel, and IB specialists at AED 200-450 or more with TutorChase publishing AED 270. One premium provider publishes AED 650. Those are market rates from those organisations rather than our price list. For chemistry specifically, the band that matters is the specialist one, because the investigation criteria and Paper 2 technique sit there.

Why are Higher Level chemistry tutors harder to book than other Diploma subjects?+

Because the cohort is small and the demand is concentrated. Higher Level chemistry at a Dubai school is typically a single class, so when a student loses the thread there is no second teacher or parallel set inside the school, and the family buys an hour. Multiply that across the city and every specialist's weekday slot between five and seven is contested by November. The practical answer is to book in September, when the rate is identical and the choice of tutor is much wider.

Which part of the chemistry grade should we spend tutoring money on first?+

The scientific investigation. It carries a fifth of the grade, twenty-four marks split evenly across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, and it can be worked on months in advance with criterion-specific feedback. Paper 2 technique comes second because it responds quickly to marking practice. Paper 1 coverage is the long-run job a weekly hour across two years does well and a crash block does badly. Spending equally across all three is the most common inefficiency in this subject.

Is Higher Level chemistry worth the extra tutoring cost for a medicine application?+

Higher Level chemistry is a common requirement for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, but requirements differ by university and are revised, so read the current published requirement on each institution's own admissions page for the year your child applies. What a tutor can honestly say is that the Higher Level content needs more weeks rather than more intensity, which argues for starting earlier rather than buying more hours later. No tutor should imply that tutoring is required for an admissions outcome.

My child memorised all the organic reactions and still lost marks. Why?+

Because the questions ask for pathways, not for recall. A student who has learned reagents and conditions as a list can answer a question that names the reaction and cannot answer one that asks how to get from a named starting material to a named product. The repair is sequencing: learning which functional group converts to which, under what conditions, and why, so a route can be constructed rather than remembered. It takes several weeks and it is the highest-yield block in Higher Level chemistry.

How many chemistry sessions a week does a Diploma student in Umm Suqeim need?+

One protected weekly hour across both Diploma years, with a short investigation block timed to the school's internal deadline and a technique block after the mock. Doubling the weekly hours rarely returns what families expect, because the limiting factor is usually practice between lessons rather than teaching time inside them. The exception is a student bridging a genuine content gap from Co-ordinated Sciences, where a finite block of eight to twelve hours early on is better value than a longer weekly arrangement.

Can a tutor help design my child's chemistry investigation?+

No, and that is the line. A tutor may teach the chemistry and the experimental technique the investigation needs, explain what each of the four criteria rewards, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not design the investigation, write any part of the report, or edit it to completion. Work submitted to the IB must be the student's own, and a breach is a malpractice matter for the candidate. Anyone offering to produce the document is offering to risk your child's diploma.

Does the chemistry data booklet change what my child should revise?+

Substantially. The booklet is provided in the examination, so revision time spent memorising values it supplies is time taken from practising retrieval under pressure. The skill worth building is knowing what the booklet contains, where each table sits, and how quickly a value can be found mid-question. Students who have never practised with it lose minutes they cannot afford on a timed paper. A tutor who does not know the booklet's contents is planning revision from the wrong premise.

My child came from Co-ordinated Sciences. Is Diploma chemistry realistic?+

Usually yes at Standard Level, and possible at Higher Level with a defined bridging block. The gap is real: less organic chemistry, less quantitative work, fewer practical techniques. It is also finite, which is the important part. Eight to twelve hours in the summer or first term, with a written list of the content being bridged and a short diagnostic at the end, closes it. An open-ended weekly catch-up arrangement costs more and never declares itself finished, which is why the block is the better purchase.

Is a group chemistry class in Al Barsha cheaper than one-to-one online?+

Cheaper per hour and generally weaker per mark. A group is taught at the pace of the middle of the room, so a student who needs the equilibrium sequence rebuilt sits through content they have, and a student who is ahead pays to revisit. Groups work for a timed-paper clinic where the content is genuinely shared. For rebuilding a specific gap in a specific student's chemistry, the one-to-one hour is what does the work, and in a scarce subject it is also what secures the specialist.

Will an examiner-trained chemistry tutor get my child a better grade?+

Treat the claim carefully. Examiner status should be evidenced before it is paid for, and it should never be presented as access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content, because it is not. What genuinely helps is somebody who has marked work against the published criteria and read enough scripts to see where marks go, which is a skill rather than a title. Ask what they would look for first in a marked Paper 2, and judge the answer rather than the label.

Does a chemistry tutor in Dubai need a permit, and can we check?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE runs on the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws. The official route is listed on mohre.gov.ae as private tutor licensing, and you can ask any tutor directly.

Can we buy chemistry help only for the final term before the May papers?+

Yes, and it is good value if the plan is built from a marked mock rather than from a feeling. A final block does paper technique well: precise definitions, shown calculation steps, answering the command term that was used, and managing time across the paper. What it cannot do is rebuild two years of the six themes, and anybody promising that is selling a hope. Start with a timed paper marked against the published scheme and let the script choose the content.

Do the KHDA mandatory UAE subjects affect a Diploma science timetable?+

They take timetable space, which is worth planning around. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever international curriculum they are licensed for, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit. The effect is a fuller week than the six Diploma subjects suggest, which argues for one well-placed chemistry hour rather than two squeezed ones.

Can chemistry lessons shift during Ramadan without extra cost?+

Yes. School days shorten, the evening reorganises around Iftar, and a slot that worked in February stops working. Because teaching is delivered over live video, moving to a later evening start is an administrative change rather than a logistical one, and there is no travel window to rebuild and no premium attached to the change. It is worth agreeing the Ramadan pattern a fortnight ahead and using the quieter afternoons for investigation drafting rather than for new quantitative content.

Book the specialist before you fine-tune the budget

In this subject the scarce thing is a Higher Level chemistry specialist at an hour your child can actually use, and that scarcity does not improve by waiting. Send the level, the school and the real hour your child is home and settled. The first lesson is free and ends with a written note on which themes are secure, which component is costing the most marks, and whether the scientific investigation is on time or already late. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and nobody is matched to a Higher Level candidate on the grounds of being available.
