IGCSE Home Tutor in Umm Suqeim

Parents search for an IGCSE home tutor in Umm Suqeim at about 4pm, when the car is back on Jumeirah Beach Road and there are two hours left before the evening collapses. This page is built around that clock: which schools the area feeds, when each of them actually releases, and when a session can realistically start. Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, which removes the second journey from the evening entirely.

  • Session slots set against real school release times, not a template
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel syllabus codes confirmed before the first lesson
  • No second car journey in the evening - lessons run over live video
  • Market AED rates quoted with the provider and the reading date named

IB & IGCSE in Umm Suqeim

The Umm Suqeim evening, and why it decides what tuition is possible

Umm Suqeim runs from Jumeirah Beach Road inland to Al Wasl and Sheikh Zayed Road, in three numbered sections of mostly villas. It has school gates of its own and sits a short drive from several more in Al Safa, Al Sufouh and Jumeirah. On paper that is convenient. In practice it means that between 2:45pm and 3:45pm the same two or three roads carry every family in the area in opposite directions at once, and the window a parent is trying to protect - homework, food, one useful hour of study - starts shorter than they expect.

That is the real constraint on IGCSE tuition here, and it is why this page is organised around the timetable rather than around subjects. A Year 11 student who gets home at 3:40pm, eats at 4:15pm and has football at 6pm has one workable slot, and it is narrow. Adding a tutor's drive across Dubai to that evening does not just cost money; it costs the slot. A session advertised for 5pm that starts at 5:20pm because Al Khail Road was slow is a session that finishes at 6:20pm, by which point the student has stopped absorbing anything.

Which brings the home-tutor question into the open. In-home tuition is a real and well-established part of the Dubai market, charged at roughly AED 180-500 an hour with travel included, and for some families it is worth it. IB Gram does not sell it. Home visits are a service we offer in India only, and there is no UAE address we will send anybody to. What we sell into Umm Suqeim is one-to-one tuition over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, which is the same teaching without the drive and without the premium that pays for the drive.

The gain is not only logistical. The pool of people who can teach Pearson Edexcel 4CH1 Chemistry to a student aiming at grade 8 is small in Dubai, and shrinks to almost nothing if you also require them to reach Umm Suqeim 2 by 5pm on a Tuesday. Removing the travel requirement puts the whole pool back in play, which matters most in exactly the subjects where families struggle to find anybody: Further Pure Mathematics, Computer Science, separate sciences at the top end.

What follows: the school-run timetable for the gates this area feeds, which board each of them is likely to be running and why you must check rather than assume, the market rates from cheapest upwards, the June and November series counted backwards from the exam to today, where marks actually disappear in Years 10 and 11, the Ministry of Education equivalency rule that should influence your child's subject choices, and the honest version of how to start - including when the answer is that your child does not need a tutor at all.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Most Umm Suqeim families in the IGCSE years are in a British-curriculum school, which is the largest curriculum group in Dubai at 37% of private-school enrolment. Here is where IGCSE sits and what comes next, since the choice at 16 shapes which subjects matter now.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10-11

Two years, typically eight to ten subjects, assessed by terminal written examinations with practical or coursework components in some subjects. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel are the two dominant boards in Dubai and their specifications differ in paper structure, tiering and grading. Students usually sit in the June series, with November available as a resit or an early-entry route.

Umm Suqeim's nearest British-curriculum gates run IGCSE in Years 10 and 11, and a single school can use Cambridge for one subject and Edexcel for another. That is the detail most families get wrong when buying revision material, and it is the first thing a tutor should establish. Dubai's UK-curriculum schools are inspected annually by KHDA on a six-band scale.

A LevelAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

International A Level, Years 12-13

Three or four subjects studied in depth over two years, with AS and A2 structures depending on the board. For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, the published requirement is one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside the five IGCSE subjects.

Several schools serving Umm Suqeim run A Levels, and the subject your child drops at the end of Year 11 is the one they cannot pick up at AS. That makes Year 10 subject performance a gatekeeping issue rather than just a grade issue, which is a better reason to add tuition early than any marketing argument.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme, Years 12-13

Six subjects across six groups, three Higher Level and three Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. UAE schools sit the May session. The DP demands breadth where A Levels demand depth, so an IGCSE student with no weak subject is better placed for it than one carrying a single collapse.

International Baccalaureate schools account for 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment, and several sit within a short drive of Umm Suqeim along the coast and in Al Sufouh. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds three new International Baccalaureate schools. An IGCSE student switching to the DP needs Mathematics and a second language in reasonable shape, since both are compulsory.

BTECAges 16-19 · post-16

Pearson BTEC and applied routes

Vocationally weighted qualifications assessed largely through units and assignments rather than terminal examinations. Available at some Dubai centres and occasionally the right answer for a student whose IGCSE profile is strong in practical subjects and weak under examination conditions.

Availability in Dubai is patchy and changes, so check the current KHDA school listing rather than an older guide. For equivalency and university purposes a BTEC route needs checking with the Ministry of Education and with the target university directly, because the published equivalency rules on the British track are written around GCSE, IGCSE and A Level.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Umm Suqeim families book most often, with the syllabus codes to confirm with the school. The code matters more than the subject name: 0580 and 4MA1 are both called Maths and are assessed differently.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Cambridge 0580 Extended is examined through a non-calculator paper and a calculator paper. Pearson 4MA1 Higher runs two calculator papers. That single difference changes revision completely, and a student drilling the wrong one loses marks on arithmetic they were never asked to do without a calculator.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 Core and Extended; Pearson 4PH1

In Cambridge 0625 the multiple-choice paper carries 30% of the grade, the theory paper 50% and the practical or alternative-to-practical component 20%. Marks concentrate in the theory paper, but the practical component is where unprepared students give away the easiest fifth of the qualification.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 Core and Extended; Pearson 4CH1

Same component weightings as Physics in the Cambridge version. The predictable losses are in moles calculations, electrolysis half-equations and organic reaction conditions, all of which reward drilled procedure rather than understanding, and all of which are teachable in a short block.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 Core and Extended; Pearson 4BI1

The highest-content science and the one where students lose marks to command words rather than to knowledge. 'Describe', 'explain', 'suggest' and 'compare' each demand a different answer shape, and a correct biological fact written in the wrong shape earns nothing.

Co-ordinated and Combined Sciences

Cambridge 0654 double award, 0653 combined

A double or single award covering all three sciences rather than three separate qualifications. Content per science is reduced, which suits a student with a full subject load, but it closes some A Level and university doors. Check the target course before choosing it.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 First Language; Pearson 4EA1 English Language A

Assessed on reading comprehension and directed writing in both boards, with coursework options at some centres. The marks are in technique: inference questions have a mark-per-point structure, and a long beautiful paragraph answering the wrong question scores the same as a blank.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A different qualification from First Language English with different grading implications for university applications, and a common source of confusion when a family moves between school systems. Confirm which one your child is entered for before buying any revision resource.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450; Pearson 4EC1 and 4BS1

Both reward structured evaluation, which is the single hardest skill to self-teach. High-mark questions need a judgement supported by two sides and a stated reason for preferring one; students who write everything they know and stop score in the middle every time.

Geography and History

Cambridge 0460 and 0470; Pearson 4GE1 and 4HI1

Case-study subjects where the specified examples are not optional. A student who revises the concepts and invents the case studies loses the application marks, and that pattern is visible in almost every mock paper we see from Year 11.

Computer Science and Further Pure Mathematics

Cambridge 0478; Pearson 4CP0 and 4PM1

The two subjects Dubai families most often cannot staff locally. Further Pure Mathematics in particular has a small teaching pool across the whole emirate, which is the clearest practical case for taking tuition over video rather than by driving distance.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats work for IGCSE students in Umm Suqeim, chosen by where you are in the two-year course rather than by preference. All three run over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one through Years 10 and 11

One subject, one tutor, one fixed slot a week from the start of Year 10 to the June series. This is the format that fixes foundations, because an IGCSE grade is mostly determined by whether the Year 10 content was ever properly learned. It is also the cheapest per mark, since nothing is being repaired under time pressure.

  • Slot set against the actual school release time, not a generic 5pm
  • Syllabus code confirmed in the first session and work built from it
  • Short written feedback after each session naming the next target
  • Pauses available around school assessment weeks

Past-paper block before the June series

A concentrated run of sessions from roughly February onwards, worked entirely through official past papers and mark schemes for the correct board and code. The tutor marks to the mark scheme and shows where the examiner awards the point, which is a different exercise from checking whether the answer is right.

  • Papers selected for the exact specification your child sits
  • Marking against the official mark scheme, point by point
  • Command-word drills on the questions that lost marks
  • Timed conditions in the last three weeks, not before

Single-subject rescue in Year 11

A short block where one subject has gone wrong and the others are fine. Usually Chemistry, Physics or Further Pure Mathematics. The first session is diagnostic on a recent mock paper rather than a tour of the syllabus, because with limited weeks the only sensible plan is to recover the highest-mark topics first.

  • Starts from the marked mock paper, not from the specification
  • Topic order set by marks available rather than by syllabus order
  • Honest about what cannot be covered in the time left
  • Can run twice weekly in the final stretch

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Umm Suqeim

01

What an IGCSE home tutor in Umm Suqeim means in practice

An IGCSE home tutor in Umm Suqeim, as the market sells it, is a qualified subject teacher who drives to your villa, teaches for an hour or ninety minutes, and leaves. Dubai rates for that service run roughly AED 180-500 an hour with travel included, and advertised monthly packages reach AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits. It is a legitimate product and plenty of families here use it. Three things about it are worth knowing before you buy.

The first is that you are paying for mileage. The in-home band overlaps almost exactly with the online specialist band of AED 200-450, and the gap at the bottom - AED 180 in-home against AED 150 online for a qualified subject tutor - is fuel, parking and unpaid driving time rather than better teaching. The second is that the tutor's journey becomes your timetable. If the drive from Al Barsha to Umm Suqeim 2 takes fifty minutes on a Tuesday, the session starts when the car arrives, and the student loses the end of their best hour. The third is selection: requiring a tutor who can reach your gate by 5pm reduces the pool to whoever lives nearby and is free, which in a subject like Further Pure Mathematics may be nobody at all.

IB Gram's answer is to drop the driving and keep the teaching. Lessons into Umm Suqeim are one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the real school release time, with the student's own marked work on screen. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India, and we would rather say that in the second paragraph than in a footnote. The honest comparison is in the table further down this page, with the rates attributed.

What that buys an Umm Suqeim family is access rather than convenience. A Year 11 student sitting Pearson Edexcel 4CH1 gets a tutor who teaches that specification, rather than a generalist who teaches Cambridge 0620 and will adapt. For a grade-8 target those are not interchangeable, because the papers are structured differently and the mark schemes reward different phrasing.

02

The Umm Suqeim school run, hour by hour, and where a session actually fits

Everything about tuition scheduling in this area follows from one hour of the afternoon. Gates around Umm Suqeim, Al Safa and Al Sufouh release in a narrow band between roughly 2:45pm and 3:30pm, with secondary year groups generally later than primary. Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road absorb all of it simultaneously, in both directions, and the inland exits to Sheikh Zayed Road queue at the same time.

A realistic reconstruction of a Year 10 weekday looks like this. Out of the gate at 3:15pm. Home between 3:30pm and 3:55pm depending on which section of Umm Suqeim and whether there is a younger sibling on a second run. Changed and fed by 4:30pm. Genuinely able to think between 4:45pm and 6:30pm, then declining. Anything booked before 4:30pm is booked against the child's attention, and anything starting after 7pm competes with dinner and fatigue.

That leaves a usable window of roughly ninety minutes to two hours, four or five days a week, and it is already contested by sport, Arabic homework, Islamic Education homework and whatever the school set. The practical consequence is that the most valuable thing a tutoring arrangement can do in Umm Suqeim is not add time but protect it. A session that starts exactly on the hour, every week, in the same slot, with no travel variable attached, is worth more over two years than a nominally longer session that starts late twice a month.

The table below sets out the pattern by cluster. Times are ordinary-day observations rather than published bell times, so check your own school's calendar - but the shape holds, and it is why we recommend 4:45pm or 5:00pm as the default start for a secondary student living in Umm Suqeim.

Cambridge or Edexcel: establish this before you buy anything

  • Get subject codes in writing from the school: 0580 and 4MA1 are both 'Maths'
  • Cambridge 0580 Extended includes a non-calculator paper; Pearson 4MA1 Higher does not
  • Cambridge sciences carry a practical or alternative-to-practical component worth 20%
  • Cambridge IGCSE grades A*-G; Pearson International GCSE grades 9-1
  • Download the exam timetable from the school, and check the Cambridge zone

The single most common wasted expense in IGCSE tutoring in Dubai is work done against the wrong specification. Both Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel are widely used in this area, a single school frequently uses one board for sciences and another for mathematics or English, and the revision guides on the shelf in a Dubai bookshop cover both without making the distinction loud. Ask the school for the subject code in writing. Not the board name - the code.

The differences are not cosmetic. Cambridge 0580 Extended Mathematics is examined through a non-calculator paper and a calculator paper, while Pearson 4MA1 Higher runs two calculator papers; a student drilling the wrong pattern practises arithmetic they will never be asked to do unaided, or neglects the one thing that will catch them out. Cambridge sciences split into Core and Extended tiers with a grade ceiling on Core, and carry a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper worth a fifth of the grade. Pearson's International GCSE sciences are structured differently again, and Pearson reports on a 9-1 scale while Cambridge IGCSE reports A*-G.

There is an administrative trap worth knowing too. Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. A parent in Umm Suqeim downloading a timetable from a search result rather than from the school has a real chance of reading the wrong one.

A tutor who asks for the codes in the first five minutes is doing the job. A tutor who does not ask is about to teach your child a competent lesson on the wrong paper structure, and you will not find out until a mock paper comes back with marks lost in places that make no sense.

04

What IGCSE tuition costs around Umm Suqeim, cheapest option first

Start at the bottom of the market rather than the top, because the bottom is where most of the waste happens. Published budget rates in Dubai begin at around AED 33-52 an hour from Tutopiya and AED 45-65 from EdFlik, putting the budget online band at roughly AED 45-150. For a Year 10 student who understands the content and will not sit down to work, that can be money well spent: supervision is a real service. For a Year 11 student who needs a 4CH1 paper marked against the mark scheme, it is not, because the tutor at that rate usually cannot do it.

The next band up is where IGCSE tuition actually lives. A qualified subject tutor working online runs AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Above that, IB and IGCSE specialists sit at AED 200-450 and upwards, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai guidance putting specialists at AED 200-450 or more. Premium named or examiner-led tutors reach AED 500-650, BartyED publishing AED 650. In-home one-to-one visits, travel included, sit at AED 180-500, with Bestimate quoting AED 180-350 and independent home tutors asking AED 200-500.

Monthly, that translates into Bestimate's own estimates for weekly one-hour sessions: AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Advertised packages include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Against school fees, which KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year under Dubai's second economic incentives package, a single subject at mid-market online rates is a modest addition; four subjects is not.

Every figure above is another provider's published rate, read during the October 2026 research round, and is quoted as the market rather than as an IB Gram price. What to ask before you commit, in this order: the rate per 60 minutes rather than per lesson, whether VAT is included, the cancellation terms, whether the tutor teaches your child's exact syllabus code, and the tutor's MoHRE private tuition work permit position. The permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, so a provider treating it as an expensive obstacle has not read it.

The June series counted backwards from exam day

Nobody in this search cluster publishes a calendar, so here is one, built from the boards' own documents rather than from memory. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year. UAE candidates sit June and November; the February/March series is offered to India only, and a page quoting it to a Dubai parent is quoting a timetable from the wrong country.

Working backwards from the June series, the fixed points that matter to a family are these. Results: Pearson's June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026 - which tells you a November entry means waiting until the following January to know. Final entry deadlines sit months before the papers, set by the centre rather than by the family, so the school's internal deadline is the one to diary. Coursework and practical components are completed and internally marked well before the written papers begin.

For tuition planning the useful arithmetic runs the other way. From the June series, count back three weeks for timed full papers under conditions, eight to twelve weeks for a structured past-paper block, two terms for content repair in a subject that has gone wrong, and the whole of Year 10 for foundations. A family in Umm Suqeim starting tuition in February for a June series can realistically fix technique and the highest-mark topics. A family starting in May is buying reassurance, and should be told so.

Two practical cautions. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which means dates can be revised, so always work from the live official timetable rather than from a restated date on any website including this one. And for Cambridge, the zone allocation is not a formality: use the version of the timetable for your centre's zone, because Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam through using the wrong one.

Where IGCSE marks actually disappear in Years 10 and 11

  • Command words: a right answer in the wrong shape scores nothing
  • Named case studies in Geography and History are not optional
  • Non-calculator arithmetic on Cambridge 0580 Extended; not on Pearson 4MA1 Higher
  • The Cambridge science practical component carries 20% and is rarely revised
  • Evaluation questions need a judgement, not more content
  • A marked mock paper read question by question beats a term of general revision

The losses are predictable enough to list. First, command words. 'State', 'describe', 'explain', 'suggest', 'compare' and 'evaluate' each require a specific answer shape, and a factually correct response in the wrong shape scores nothing. This is the largest single source of avoidable loss in IGCSE sciences and humanities, and it is fixed by marking a student's own answers against the official mark scheme until they can predict the marks themselves.

Second, case studies and specified examples. Geography and History award application marks for named, specified material, and a student who revises the concept and improvises the example loses those marks every time. Third, arithmetic without a calculator, which on Cambridge 0580 Extended is an entire paper and on Pearson 4MA1 Higher is not - another reason the code matters more than the subject name.

Fourth, the practical component in Cambridge sciences, worth 20% of the grade through either the practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper. Students treat it as the easy part and lose marks on variables, repeats, table headings with units and graph conventions - all of which are learnable in two or three sessions and almost never revised. Fifth, evaluation in Economics and Business Studies, where the top band needs a judgement with two sides weighed and a reason given for the preference, and where writing more content instead reliably caps a student in the middle.

Sixth, and least discussed, the mock paper that never gets properly read. A marked mock is the most informative document a family will see in two years, and it is usually glanced at for the grade and filed. Going through it question by question against the mark scheme - what was the question asking, what did the mark scheme want, what did you write - takes an hour and typically identifies three recurring technique errors worth more marks than a term of re-teaching.

07

Ministry of Education equivalency and how it should shape subject choices

If there is any chance your child will apply to a UAE university or need their certificate attested locally, the equivalency rules should influence Year 10 subject choices, and almost no tutoring page in this market mentions them. On the British track, the published requirement is that students pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

The detail that catches families out is the exclusion: Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. A student taking eight subjects of which two are Arabic and Islamic Education has six that count, not eight, and a weak result in one of those six matters more than the headline subject count suggests. One competitor page currently ranking in this market states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the sourced rule is five, and getting this wrong in either direction leads to real decisions being made on bad information.

For the American track, the same source gives English proficiency as a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. No IB points threshold is published in that source, so any page quoting one for IB equivalency is quoting something unverified - including, if it did, this one.

Two boundaries matter here. Equivalency and attestation are processes run by the Ministry of Education and the emirate authorities, not by a tutoring provider, and nothing on this page should be read as IB Gram performing or guaranteeing them. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, university admission or school progression; any provider implying that it is has invented an urgency the regulation does not contain. Verify the current rules on moe.gov.ae before acting.

Starting from Umm Suqeim, and the cases where tuition is the wrong answer

  • Send subject, year, syllabus code, school release time and the last marked paper
  • Free full-length trial lesson before any payment
  • Fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, set to your gate's release time
  • Ramadan and holiday timings arranged in advance
  • We will tell you when tuition is not the right purchase

The starting sequence is short and the first step is free. Tell us the subject, the year group, the syllabus code if you have it and the school's release time. Send the most recent marked mock or assessment if one exists. We match a tutor who teaches that specification, you take a full-length trial lesson at no cost with your child's own work on screen, and you judge one thing: whether this person explains where the marks are rather than re-explaining the topic. If the match is wrong, say so and we change it.

Sessions then sit in a fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, set against the release time for your child's gate rather than a default hour. Lessons can move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan, holiday weeks often work better in the morning, and a slot can pause through a school's heaviest assessment week. Tell us the school assessment calendar at the start and the plan gets built around it.

Now the part a tutoring page is not supposed to include. Tuition is the wrong answer in several common situations. If a Year 10 student is coping with the content but not doing the work, a tutor becomes an expensive supervisor and the underlying problem survives into Year 11. If four subjects are weak at once, the issue is usually sleep, timetable load or something going on that no subject tutor can reach, and adding four tutors makes the week worse. If a mock grade dropped once in a subject that was previously fine, wait for the next assessment before spending anything. And if the exam is four weeks away and the content was never learned, the honest service is to help the student protect the grades they can still get, not to sell them a rescue.

What we will not do, stated plainly. We do not send anyone to a UAE address; home visits are an India-only service. We do not claim KHDA, ADEK, Ministry of Education, Cambridge, Pearson or IB approval or partnership, because IB Gram holds none of them. We do not supply or reproduce syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes - we reference and link the official sources and work from the school's own copies. We do not write coursework. And we publish no grade promises, because nobody honest can make one.

Where we tutor

Umm Suqeim and the streets that share its school run

Umm Suqeim's three sections sit between the beach and Al Wasl Road, with Al Safa inland and Al Sufouh to the south-west. The notes below are about traffic and timing, because that is what determines when an IGCSE session can start.

Umm Suqeim 1

Closest to Al Safa and the Al Wasl Road junctions, which makes the inland drive quick and the beach-road drive slow at release time. Families here often have the earliest realistic session start in the area, around 4:30pm.

Umm Suqeim 2

The middle strip, with school gates on both sides and the heaviest cross-traffic between 3:00pm and 3:30pm. A session booked for 4:30pm here regularly starts at 4:45pm, which is the main argument for removing a tutor's journey from the equation.

Umm Suqeim 3

Towards Al Sufouh and the Burj Al Arab end, with its own cluster of gates. The drive out to Sheikh Zayed Road is longer, so students with activities in Al Barsha or Media City are generally not free before 5:15pm.

Al Safa

Inland across Al Wasl Road, sharing several gates with Umm Suqeim and offering faster access to Sheikh Zayed Road. Al Safa families frequently use the same tutors as Umm Suqeim households, and face the same release-time squeeze.

Jumeirah 3 and Al Manara

The next strip towards town, feeding many of the same schools. The practical overlap is complete: a timetable that works for a Jumeirah 3 student works here, which is why the two areas swap recommendations.

Al Sufouh

South-west towards Knowledge Park and Media City, with several large school campuses. Students commuting from Umm Suqeim 3 to these gates lose the longest on the return leg, so their sessions sit latest in the evening.

Al Wasl

The corridor behind Umm Suqeim 1, home to primary and through-schools. Younger siblings here create the double school run that most often collapses an elder child's study slot, which is worth saying out loud when choosing a session time.

Al Quoz and Al Barsha

Inland, reached via Sheikh Zayed Road or Al Khail Road, and where several activity centres and academies sit. A Year 10 student with a Tuesday fixture in Al Barsha has no useful weekday slot on Tuesday, and pretending otherwise wastes a paid session.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Umm Suqeim

Umm Suqeim, Al Safa and Jumeirah

These gates serve most of Umm Suqeim and release in a narrow window in the early afternoon. The mix of British-curriculum and IB continuum schools in the same streets is why a parent here can get confident but irrelevant advice from a neighbour. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; no affiliation is implied.

Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and Knowledge Park

The second cluster Umm Suqeim 3 commutes to, reached by Al Sufouh Road or Sheikh Zayed Road. Release times here are similar but the return journey is longer, which pushes a realistic weekday session fifteen to thirty minutes later than for a family staying inside Umm Suqeim.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the code and the clock

Subject, year group, exam board and syllabus code if you have it, plus what time your child actually gets home. Those four facts are enough to match a tutor and set a slot that will survive the term, which is more than most enquiry forms collect.

  2. 02

    Send the last marked paper

A recent mock or assessment, marked, is worth more than any description of the problem. It shows whether marks are being lost on content, on command words or on timing, and those three need completely different first sessions.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

A full-length one-to-one session over live video at no cost, worked on your child's own paper. Judge the tutor on whether they can point at a specific question and explain where the mark scheme awards the point. That is the skill you are buying.

  4. 04

Lock a weekly slot against the school run

Pick a time that works after the gate release and the drive home, usually 4:45pm or 5:00pm for a secondary student in Umm Suqeim. A slot that starts reliably on the hour beats a longer session that starts late, over two years by a wide margin.

  5. 05

Review on marked evidence each half term

Every six to eight weeks we compare marked work from before and after and decide to continue, change subject focus, change tutor or stop. The comparison is against the mark scheme rather than against a general impression, and stopping is a legitimate outcome.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The specification is confirmed before teaching starts

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are assessed differently, and so are the sciences. The first session establishes the exact code and the work is built from it, which removes the commonest source of wasted tuition in this market.

No travel variable in your evening

Lessons run over live video, so the start time does not depend on Al Khail Road. For a family protecting a ninety-minute window after the Umm Suqeim school run, a session that begins on the hour every week is the practical benefit.

The tutor pool is the whole market

Removing the drive means a Further Pure Mathematics or Computer Science request is answered from everyone qualified, not from whoever lives within twenty minutes. Those are precisely the subjects Dubai families report being unable to staff locally.

Rates quoted as the market, with sources

Every AED figure on this page is another provider's published rate with the provider named and the reading date given, so you can check it. We would rather be compared against a real market than against an unnamed competitor.

Boards and regulators described, never claimed

We explain what KHDA does and what the MoHRE permit requires, and we claim no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge, Pearson or the IB. The most dangerous phrase in this market is one we will not use.

We say when not to buy

Four weak subjects at once, a one-off dip, or an exam four weeks away with the content never learned - these have better answers than a tutor, and we will say so. A provider who recommends tuition in every case is not advising you.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Umm Suqeim: your questions answered

Do you send a tutor to our villa in Umm Suqeim for IGCSE lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. IGCSE tuition into Umm Suqeim is one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with your child's own marked work on screen. The reason is on this page rather than hidden: the Dubai in-home band of roughly AED 180-500 an hour overlaps the online specialist band almost exactly, so the premium pays for driving rather than teaching, and requiring a tutor who can reach your gate by 5pm cuts the available pool to whoever happens to be nearby and free.

What time should we book an IGCSE session if my child is in a school near Umm Suqeim?+

Plan for 4:45pm as the default and 5:00pm if the gate is in Al Sufouh or Al Barsha. Secondary year groups around Umm Suqeim, Al Safa and Al Sufouh release roughly between 2:45pm and 3:30pm, the beach road and Al Wasl Road absorb all of it at once, and a child is home between about 3:30pm and 4:25pm depending on which section you live in and whether there is a second school run. Add changing and food and the useful working window starts around 4:45pm and closes around 6:30pm.

Which syllabus code should I ask an Umm Suqeim school for before booking?+

Ask the school for the syllabus code in writing for each subject, not just the board name. A single Dubai school commonly uses Cambridge for sciences and Pearson for mathematics or English, and the codes are what resolve it: 0580 and 4MA1 are both called Maths and are examined differently, since Cambridge 0580 Extended includes a non-calculator paper and Pearson 4MA1 Higher does not. Cambridge sciences also carry a practical or alternative-to-practical component worth 20% of the grade. Buying revision material before you have the codes is the commonest wasted expense in this market.

What is the cheapest sensible way to get IGCSE help for a Year 10 student here?+

Published budget rates in Dubai start around AED 33-52 an hour from Tutopiya and AED 45-65 from EdFlik, and at that level you are buying supervision rather than subject expertise. For a Year 10 student who understands the content but will not sit down and work, supervision is genuinely useful and probably enough. For technique and mark-scheme work the band you need is a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. The cheapest real saving is starting in Year 10 rather than in Year 11, because repair under time pressure costs far more hours.

When are IGCSE exams sat by students in Dubai, and when do results arrive?+

Cambridge runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November. UAE candidates sit June and November; the February/March series is offered to India only. On results timing, Pearson's June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Always work from the live official timetable, since Pearson publishes provisional timetables that can be revised before a series.

My child's mock grade dropped in one subject. Should we start tuition straight away?+

Not necessarily, and a provider telling you otherwise is selling rather than advising. A single dip in one subject that was previously fine is often a bad paper, a missed topic or an off week, and the next assessment will tell you which. What is worth doing immediately and costs nothing is reading the marked mock question by question against the mark scheme: what the question asked, what the mark scheme wanted, what your child wrote. If that exercise shows the same technique error three times, a short block of tuition will fix it. If it shows one unlearned topic, the school can usually handle it.

Which IGCSE subjects are hardest to find a tutor for in this part of Dubai?+

Further Pure Mathematics and Computer Science are the thinnest, followed by separate sciences at grade 8-9 level and Arabic as a first language. These are exactly the cases where insisting on someone who can drive to Umm Suqeim by 5pm leaves you with nobody, because the small pool that exists in the emirate is distributed by where people teach rather than by residential area. Over live video the request is answered from everyone qualified. If we genuinely cannot cover a combination at the time you need it, we will tell you that instead of placing a generalist.

How many subjects should we take tuition in at once?+

One, usually, and rarely more than two. Four weak subjects at the same time is almost never four subject problems; it is sleep, timetable load, or something else going on, and adding four weekly sessions makes a full week worse rather than better. One subject taught properly also tends to lift the others, because command-word discipline and mark-scheme awareness transfer. If your child genuinely needs help across the board, the more useful conversation is with the school about load and support, not with a tutoring provider about volume.

Does the Cambridge science practical component matter if lessons are online?+

It matters a great deal and it is where easy marks go missing. In Cambridge sciences the practical test or alternative-to-practical paper carries 20% of the grade, and the marks are awarded for controlled variables, repeats, table headings with correct units, graph conventions and conclusions that reference the data. Those are written skills assessed on paper, and they are teachable over video using the student's own past-paper responses. The hands-on laboratory work itself belongs to the school. What tuition adds is the discipline of writing up an experiment the way the mark scheme wants it written.

Can an Umm Suqeim session shift during Ramadan or an internal assessment week?+

Yes, and arranging it in advance works better than improvising. Sessions can shift to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan, and holiday weeks often suit a morning slot, which is useful for concentrated past-paper work. A slot can also pause through a school's heaviest internal assessment week, when an extra evening commitment reliably makes things worse. Send the school's assessment calendar when you book and the plan is built around it. The one thing we would not recommend is pausing through the eight weeks before the June series, which is when structured past-paper work pays most.

How should subject choices account for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

On the British track the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. The detail families miss is that Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. A student taking eight subjects of which two are Arabic and Islamic Education has six that count. Verify the current rules on moe.gov.ae; equivalency is run by the Ministry and emirate authorities, and no tutoring provider performs or guarantees it.

What does a tutor need from us before the first IGCSE lesson?+

Four things, and they take ten minutes to gather. The subject and year group. The exam board and syllabus code, from the school in writing. The most recent marked paper, with the marks on it. And the time your child is realistically home and fed. The marked paper is the important one: it shows whether marks are going on content, on command words or on timing, and those need different first sessions. Without it a tutor spends the first hour on a diagnostic your child has already effectively sat at school, which you have then paid for twice.

Is an online lesson really as useful as someone sitting at the table?+

For IGCSE work it is, because almost all of the work is on paper and on screen. The tutor sees the student's written answer, annotates it live, and works through the mark scheme line by line - which is in practice easier shared on a screen than read upside down across a kitchen table. What online delivery does not provide is a physical presence to keep a reluctant student in the chair, and that is a real limitation worth naming. For a student who needs supervision rather than teaching, a parent in the next room during the session achieves more than a higher hourly rate.

What happens if the first tutor is not right for my child?+

You say so and we change the match, without a case to argue. The trial lesson exists precisely so this decision is made before money changes hands, and the thing to watch in it is whether the tutor can point at a specific question on your child's own paper and explain where the mark scheme awards the point. A tutor who re-teaches the topic instead is doing something the school already does. Mismatches are usually about pace and manner rather than competence, and a second match on the same subject code normally settles it.

Is an IGCSE tutor teaching an Umm Suqeim student required to hold a MoHRE permit?+

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers categories including teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists it as 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing'. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat quoted amounts sceptically.

Fit the tuition to the clock you actually have

The useful question in Umm Suqeim is not who can get to your door. It is what happens in the ninety minutes between the school run finishing and your child's attention going, and whether the person using that time knows the exact specification on the paper. Send the subject, the syllabus code and the time your child gets home, take a free trial lesson, and judge it on whether the tutor can show you where the marks are on your child's own work. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with no drive attached to either end.
