IB Tutor near me in Bur Dubai

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Bur Dubai usually means one of two things: a Diploma subject has stopped making sense, or an internal deadline has arrived sooner than the family expected. IB Gram answers both the same way — a specialist in that exact subject and level, teaching one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, from Al Mankhool to Oud Metha to Karama, starting with a free trial lesson so you can hear the teaching before you pay for any of it.

  • Matched by subject and level, not by postcode distance
  • Live video sessions on Gulf Standard Time, evenings included
  • Internal assessment work is coached, never written for the student
  • A free trial lesson before any payment is taken

IB & IGCSE in Bur Dubai

What an IB tutor near me in Bur Dubai can and cannot fix

Bur Dubai sits on the older side of the creek, and its school map reflects that. Families here are spread across Indian-curriculum schools in Oud Metha, British-curriculum schools running IGCSE at sixteen, and a smaller group of International Baccalaureate schools reached by a short drive towards Al Garhoud and Deira. That mix matters for one practical reason: a student who ends up in the Diploma Programme in this part of Dubai has often arrived from a different system, and the problem is rarely laziness. It is a change in what the assessment rewards.

The Diploma does not test recall in the way a national board does. It tests whether a student can apply a named idea to an unfamiliar situation, justify a method, and explain their reasoning in the language of the command term printed on the paper. A student who has spent four years being marked on completeness will write a page where the paper wanted three justified lines, and will lose marks for being insufficiently specific rather than for being wrong. That is diagnosable, and it is the most common single thing a Diploma tutor fixes in Bur Dubai.

The second thing is structural. Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and the Creativity-Activity-Service strand, generate a deadline calendar that no school can flatten. Internal assessment drafts in four subjects can land inside a fortnight of each other. A student who is academically capable can still be in trouble because of sequencing, and the help needed there is planning and process, not more content.

The third is content gaps that nobody has had time to go back for. Calculus techniques that were never secure before derivatives of composite functions arrived. Mole calculations that work until a limiting reagent appears. Vector resolution that is fine until an inclined plane is involved. These are small, specific, and they do not repair themselves through more homework at the same level of difficulty — they need someone sitting with the student working through past-paper questions at the point of failure.

IB Gram treats all three as separate jobs. The match is made on subject and level, which is why the search phrase matters less than the subject line. A Bur Dubai family looking for an IB tutor near me in Bur Dubai gets a Chemistry Higher Level specialist if that is what the student sits, rather than whichever generalist happens to live within a twenty-minute drive of Al Mankhool. Lessons run over live video, screen-shared, with the past paper on one side and the student's working on the other. There is no home-visit option in the UAE, and the comparison table further down sets out honestly what that trade costs and what it buys.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four IB programmes exist, and a Bur Dubai family will usually meet two of them. Knowing which one a student is actually in changes what tutoring should look like, because the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma are assessed on entirely different principles.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

An inquiry-led primary framework with no external examinations. Learning is organised into transdisciplinary units, and reporting describes progress against learner-profile attributes and conceptual understanding rather than a percentage. The exhibition in the final year is the first piece of extended independent work most students produce. Tutoring here is almost always about English reading fluency, number sense, or helping a child who has transferred from a textbook-and-test primary system adjust to being asked what they think rather than what the book said.

Few Bur Dubai schools run the PYP itself, so families usually meet it after a move to an IB continuum school nearer Al Garhoud or Deira. The adjustment that surprises parents most is the absence of marks: a report describing a child as a developing inquirer gives no obvious lever to pull, and the useful tutoring response is to build the underlying reading and arithmetic until the inquiry work becomes accessible.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight and converted to a 1-7 grade band. The criteria are the whole game: a student who knows the content but writes nothing against Criterion D will cap out around a 4. Years 9 and 10 carry the Personal Project, a long independent piece with its own process journal. Optional eAssessment at the end of Year 11 provides an externally moderated certificate where a school chooses to enter candidates.

For Bur Dubai students the MYP is most often the two years before a Diploma decision, and the criteria language is where marks leak. A student arriving from an Indian-curriculum school in Oud Metha will typically be strong on Criterion A knowledge and weak on Criterion C communication, because nothing in their previous schooling asked them to show a method they had not been given. That gap is closeable in a term of weekly work.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, normally three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, drawn one from each of groups 1 to 5 with a sixth from group 6 or a second from groups 1 to 4. Each subject is graded 1 to 7, giving 42, with up to three further points from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay matrix. Every subject carries an internally assessed component worth 20 to 30 per cent of the final grade, marked by the teacher and externally moderated.

This is the programme Bur Dubai families search for most, and the pinch point is the two-year shape rather than any single paper. A student here often commutes across the creek to an IB school, which compresses the usable study evening, so sessions are scheduled late and the internal assessment calendar is mapped backwards from the school's own draft deadlines rather than from the examination window.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A smaller framework combining at least two Diploma courses with an approved career-related study, a reflective project, a personal and professional skills course, service learning and a language-development strand. It suits a student who wants Diploma-level academic depth in two or three subjects without carrying six. Universities assess it on the Diploma course grades plus the career-related qualification, so the subject choices carry more weight individually than they do inside a full Diploma.

Very few Dubai schools offer the CP, and almost no Bur Dubai family will be choosing it. It matters here mainly as a fallback worth raising with a school counsellor when a student is clearly capable in two subjects and drowning in six. Tutoring on the CP concentrates on the Diploma courses taken and on the reflective project, which follows a research-and-reflection structure closer to the Extended Essay than to an examination.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subjects below are the Diploma courses Bur Dubai students most often ask for, with the levels each is taught at and the specific place marks tend to disappear. Availability is by subject and level rather than by area, because every lesson runs over video.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebraic route, required or preferred for most engineering, physics, economics and mathematics degrees. Proof, calculus technique and sequences carry the Higher Level paper. Marks are lost on differentiation of composite and implicit functions, on failing to state which test justified a conclusion, and on the Paper 3 extended investigation, where students answer the question they recognise rather than the one printed.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The modelling and statistics route, built around technology use throughout. Regression, hypothesis testing, financial mathematics and graph theory at Higher Level. The common failure is not calculation but interpretation: a student produces a correct correlation coefficient and then writes a conclusion the data does not support, or reports a test statistic without stating the hypothesis it tested.

Physics

HL and SL

Reorganised around the themes of space-time-motion, particulate structure of matter, wave behaviour, fields, nuclear and quantum physics. Students lose marks on unit and significant-figure discipline, on explaining a field rather than quantifying it, and on uncertainty propagation in the scientific investigation, where arithmetic that is almost right scores nothing against the analysis criterion.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organised into Structure and Reactivity themes, with the data booklet available in every paper. Organic mechanisms, equilibrium calculations and energetics are where Bur Dubai students most often ask for help. The recurring trap is reaching for a remembered constant instead of the booklet value, and writing mechanisms without curly arrows that start at an electron pair.

Biology

HL and SL

Unity and diversity, form and function, interaction and interdependence, continuity and change, read at molecular, cellular and ecosystem levels. The volume of terminology is the visible problem; the real one is command terms. A question that says outline wants three sentences, and a student who writes a page on it loses time they needed for the data-analysis question later in the paper.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Reader-writer-text, time and space, and intertextuality, assessed through Paper 1 guided analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay, the individual oral and, at Higher Level, the essay. Students who read well still lose marks by summarising rather than analysing, and by treating the global issue in the oral as a theme instead of as a lens applied to two specific extracts.

English B

HL and SL

For students working in English as an additional language, assessed on reading, listening, writing and an individual oral built from a stimulus. The writing task is where marks go: a student produces accurate prose in the wrong text type, losing conceptual understanding marks because a blog, a formal letter and a report each carry register and layout conventions the mark scheme expects to see.

Economics

HL and SL

Microeconomics, macroeconomics, the global economy and the unifying concepts of scarcity, efficiency, equity, intervention, sustainability and economic well-being. Diagram discipline decides grades: correctly labelled axes, a shifted curve rather than a moved point, and an explicit statement of what happened to price and quantity. Higher Level adds calculation that students treat as arithmetic rather than as evidence for an argument.

Business Management

HL and SL

Introduction to business management, human resource management, finance and accounts, marketing and operations, assessed partly on a pre-released case study. Students lose marks by describing a tool rather than applying it to the stimulus, and by never evaluating. A recommendation with no stated drawback caps the response, regardless of how accurate the analysis above it was.

Arabic B and Arabic A

HL and SL

Dubai private schools must deliver Arabic alongside the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. For a Diploma student taking Arabic B, the pressure is usually the oral and the text-type conventions rather than vocabulary breadth, and consistent weekly speaking practice moves it faster than written drills.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working cover almost every Bur Dubai request. The choice is driven by how far away the next deadline is, not by budget, because a student eight weeks from a paper needs a different shape of help from one in the first term of DP1.

Weekly one-to-one by subject

One subject, one hour or ninety minutes, the same slot each week over live video with screen sharing. The session runs on the student's own class material and on past-paper questions chosen for the specific topic that failed, and each one closes with two or three named tasks before the next. This is the default for a student in DP1 or early DP2 where there is still time to build rather than patch.

  • Same tutor each week, so nothing is re-explained from scratch
  • Runs on the school's sequence, not a separate parallel syllabus
  • Short written note after each session naming what was covered and what is next

Intensive pre-session block

Two or three sessions a week for a fixed number of weeks before an examination series or a school mock window, built backwards from the date. Content coverage is deliberately narrow: the topics that carry the most marks and the topics the student has most often got wrong, worked through under timed conditions with mark schemes applied afterwards. Blocks end when the examinations do rather than rolling on by default.

  • Scheduled against the school's mock calendar and the live examination window
  • Timed question practice with the mark scheme applied line by line
  • A written error log carried from session to session so repeats become visible

Core and internal assessment process coaching

Scheduled support for Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and subject internal assessments, built around the criteria rather than the word count. A tutor helps a student narrow a research question, test whether the method can generate analysable data, read a criterion against their own draft, and plan revisions. The student writes every word. Nothing is drafted, completed or edited to a finished state on their behalf.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Research-question testing before weeks are spent on an unworkable topic
  • A deadline map covering every internal assessment running concurrently

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Bur Dubai

01

What a Bur Dubai parent is actually asking when they type IB tutor near me

  • Matched on subject and level first, with time-zone and scheduling fit second
  • Lessons run over live video with screen sharing; no tutor attends a UAE address
  • A free trial lesson, with no card details required, before any weekly slot is agreed
  • If no specialist is free for a niche Higher Level subject, that is said plainly rather than filled with a generalist

The honest answer first: IB Gram delivers tutoring to Bur Dubai as one-to-one teaching over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, matched by subject and level. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE — visiting tutors are a service offered only in India. The search phrase is about reach and reliability, not geography, and the reason the distinction matters is that proximity and subject expertise pull in opposite directions in this part of the city.

Bur Dubai has a deep and long-established school population, but the number of adults within a twenty-minute drive who can teach Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, or who have examined Chemistry internal assessments, is small. A family that filters by distance is filtering on the one variable that has no effect on teaching quality and a large effect on who is available. A family that filters by subject and level gets a specialist and loses nothing except a doorbell.

There is a second practical gain that parents in Al Karama and Al Hamriya raise first. A video session does not lose fifteen minutes at each end to Sheikh Zayed Road or to the creek crossings, and it does not get cancelled because a tutor is stuck somewhere near Al Garhoud at 17:40. Over a two-year Diploma that is the difference between a schedule that holds and one that quietly erodes from the third month onwards.

What a family gives up is real and worth stating. A tutor in the room can read body language in a way a video window flattens, can see a student's written working upside down on the table, and can intervene in a fidget before it becomes twenty minutes lost. Screen sharing and a document camera close most of that gap for written subjects, and the trial lesson exists precisely so you can judge whether it closes it for your child rather than taking an assurance from a landing page.

02

Six subjects and three core pieces: the architecture that decides where help is needed

A Diploma candidate takes one subject from each of groups 1 to 5 and a sixth from group 6, or a second subject from groups 1 to 4 instead. Three are taken at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, with Higher Level courses carrying substantially more taught hours and deeper content. Every subject is graded on a 1 to 7 scale, and every subject carries an internally assessed component marked by the school teacher and externally moderated by the IB.

That architecture is why Diploma tutoring requests cluster so predictably. The two Higher Level sciences and Higher Level mathematics generate most of the demand, because that is where the content depth sits and where the internal assessment is most technically demanding. Group 1 and group 2 language courses generate fewer requests but higher-value ones, because the individual oral is a single unrepeatable performance and students rarely get genuine rehearsal time at school.

Group 3 and group 6 subjects produce a different pattern again. Economics and Business Management students usually arrive with the content broadly in place and lose marks on evaluation and diagram discipline, which is a technique problem fixable in a handful of sessions. Visual Arts and Theatre students almost never need content help and quite often need someone to hold them to a process-portfolio schedule that has no weekly homework to enforce it.

For a Bur Dubai family the useful move is to look at the student's six-subject block and ask which two are both Higher Level and internally assessment-heavy. That pair is where a term of weekly work changes a grade, and it is a far better basis for choosing where to spend money than the subject the student complains about loudest.

How 45 points are built, and the conditions that fail an otherwise strong candidate

Six subject grades of 1 to 7 give a maximum of 42 points. Up to three further points come from the matrix combining the Theory of Knowledge grade with the Extended Essay grade, which is how the 45-point total is reached. A student needs 24 points as a minimum for the Diploma to be awarded, and the Creativity-Activity-Service requirement must be completed.

The part that surprises families is that the points total alone does not decide the outcome. A set of failing conditions sits alongside it, and each one can withhold a Diploma from a candidate whose arithmetic looks comfortable. A single grade 1 in any subject, too many grade 2s, too many grades of 3 or below, a Higher Level total below a stated floor, or a grade E in Theory of Knowledge or the Extended Essay will each do it independently of the headline number.

This is the most common reason a Bur Dubai family's tutoring priority is wrong. The instinct is to put money into the subject where the student is aiming for a 7, because that is the subject they talk about. The arithmetic says to put it into the subject sitting at a 2 or a 3, because that is the one carrying a failing condition. A student moving one weak subject from a 2 to a 4 has usually bought more security than one moving a strong subject from a 6 to a 7.

The second common misreading is the core. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay are worth at most three points between them, which parents reasonably read as marginal, and then a grade E in either becomes a failing condition on its own. The core is low-value and high-risk, which means it needs enough attention to clear the floor and no more than that. Confirm every threshold against the current IB assessment procedures through the school's Diploma coordinator before planning around it, because these are the IB's own rules and the IB revises them.

04

Where marks actually leave the room, group by group

  • Command-term discipline: match the length and shape of the answer to the verb printed on the paper
  • Unit, significant-figure and uncertainty habits, marked strictly in practice rather than discussed
  • Internal assessment topic and method tested before the writing starts, not after
  • Showing method explicitly, which is the hardest habit for transfer students to acquire

Command terms account for more lost marks in the Diploma than missing content does. Every question verb carries a defined expectation: state wants a fact with no justification, describe wants an account without reasons, explain wants reasons, and evaluate wants a judgement supported by both sides. A student who writes an excellent explanation for a question that said outline has produced work that is correct and unrewarded, and the fix takes one session with a highlighter and three past papers.

Significant figures and units are the second repeating leak, concentrated in group 4 and group 5. Examiners deduct for an answer given to more precision than the data supports, for a missing unit, and for an uncertainty that has not been propagated through the calculation. None of this is conceptual, and all of it is habitual, which means it responds to being marked strictly in practice sessions rather than to being explained again.

The third is the internal assessment, and here the loss is almost always front-loaded. A student who chooses an exploration topic with no interesting mathematics in it, or an investigation whose method cannot generate enough data to analyse, has capped their mark before writing a sentence. A tutor reading a proposal in week one is worth more than the same tutor reading a full draft in week nine, which is why the process coaching mode exists as a separate thing rather than as an add-on to weekly lessons.

The fourth is specific to students arriving from a different system, which in Bur Dubai is a large share of them. Marking schemes in the Diploma reward the visible reasoning, not the answer. A student trained to produce a clean final line will write three steps where the mark scheme awarded marks for five, and will be genuinely baffled by losing marks on a question they got right. That is a presentation habit built over years, and it takes a term of consistent correction to replace.

05

What past-paper work with a Bur Dubai student actually looks like

A session that works has a narrow subject. The student brings the topic the school is on, or the question they could not finish, and the tutor brings past-paper questions on that single topic graded from accessible to the hardest version the paper has asked. The point is not to cover ground. It is to find the precise step at which the student's reasoning stops and to rebuild from there, which is why a session on one topic beats a session that tours four.

The work is done on screen, shared, with the question on one side and the student's working on the other. The student writes; the tutor watches the writing happen. That matters more than it sounds, because most diagnosable errors are visible in the second line of working and invisible in the final answer. A tutor who only sees finished work is guessing at the cause.

Mark schemes are then applied line by line, by the student, out loud. A student who marks their own response against the published criteria learns what the examiner was rewarding faster than any amount of being told, and the habit transfers to revision done alone. Official papers and mark schemes are referenced through the school's own access to them or through the IB's published material — IB Gram does not reproduce, host or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson papers, mark schemes or subject guides, because those documents are copyright and distributing them is a liability for everyone involved.

Each session ends with a written note: what was covered, what the student got wrong and why, and two or three tasks before the next slot. Over a term that note becomes an error log, and the repeats in it are the most valuable diagnostic a family gets. A student whose log shows the same uncertainty mistake four times has a habit problem, not a knowledge problem, and the teaching response to those two things is completely different.

One-to-one online against an in-home tutor in Bur Dubai, with the numbers

Over a two-year Diploma the figure that decides most Bur Dubai budgets is the monthly one, not the hourly one. One weekly hour at the qualified-online band runs to roughly AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month on Bestimate's published 2026 Dubai estimates, and an examination-year specialist block sits at AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more. Run that across twenty-four months and the gap between formats stops being a rounding difference and becomes a second subject you either can or cannot afford.

The hourly bands behind those monthly figures are published by providers rather than estimated. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52 at the budget end, typically university-student tutors. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200 for a qualified subject tutor online. TutorChase lists AED 270 for a specialist, and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutoring at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with BartyED at AED 650 for a premium named tutor. In-home visits in Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to AED 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to AED 500 by independent home tutors, with monthly in-home packages advertised around AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour sessions.

The premium on an in-home visit is paying for travel, and in Bur Dubai that is a long way from theoretical. A tutor crossing from Jumeirah or Al Barsha at 17:30 is pricing the Al Mina Road and the creek crossings into the rate, and the family is paying for a journey rather than for teaching. The same money spent on a video session buys more minutes of actual instruction, and it buys them from a pool that is not limited to adults who live on this side of the city.

IB Gram's own model is a free trial lesson followed by a quoted rate for the specific subject and level, because a Higher Level Chemistry specialist and a Middle Years English tutor are not the same cost. The figures above are the market, with sources and dates attached, so a Bur Dubai parent can check them. They are not our price list, and no page on this site should be read as quoting one.

Academic honesty: what a tutor may and may not touch on an IA, EE or TOK essay

  • Teaching content, criteria and method: appropriate and the substance of the work
  • Reading the student's own draft against a criterion and naming the gap: appropriate
  • Supplying sentences, paragraphs or corrected analysis for submission: never, on any component
  • Reproducing or supplying IB, Cambridge or Pearson papers, mark schemes or subject guides: never; they are referenced and linked instead

This is the line that matters most, and it is the one the Diploma enforces hardest. Every internally assessed piece must be the student's own work, declared as such by both the student and the supervising teacher. Work that is not the student's own is malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student in the form of a withheld grade or a withheld Diploma. No tutoring convenience is worth that exposure, which is why the boundary is described here rather than left vague.

A tutor may teach the underlying content, explain what a criterion is asking for, read a student's own draft and say where it does not meet that criterion, question whether a research question is answerable, test whether a method can produce analysable data, and help plan a revision. All of that is teaching, and all of it is what a good school supervisor does as well. There is nothing cautious or limited about it; it is the most useful thing available.

A tutor may not supply text that enters the submission. Not a paragraph, not a rewritten conclusion, not an abstract, not a corrected calculation inserted into the student's analysis. IB Gram does not sell completed internal assessments, Extended Essays, Theory of Knowledge essays or Personal Projects, and treats any request for one as a reason to decline the work. At least one provider in this market advertises finished Internal Assessments for sale; that is an academic-integrity breach and a malpractice trigger for the student who buys it.

The practical form this takes in a session is a question rather than a sentence. Instead of fixing a weak conclusion, a tutor asks what the data actually showed and what would have to be true for the stated conclusion to follow. The student then writes the better version themselves, which is slower on the day and the only approach that survives contact with a viva or a supervisor's authenticity check.

08

KHDA, the Bur Dubai school map, and what an inspection band tells a parent

Private schools in Dubai are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually and publishes a six-band judgement running from Outstanding through Very Weak. Dubai's private sector held 227 schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25 across 17 different curricula, with UK curriculum at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26 per cent, US at 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent. That last figure explains the Bur Dubai experience precisely: the IB is a minority route here, and the specialist teaching market reflects that.

An inspection band is a judgement about a school, not about a cohort or a subject. A school rated Good can have an Outstanding mathematics department and a weak one in sciences, and the published report usually says which. The useful reading for a parent considering tutoring is the subject-level commentary rather than the headline band, because that is where a genuine gap between a school's strongest and weakest departments becomes visible. Read it from KHDA's own published report for the school; ratings quoted second-hand are frequently out of date.

KHDA also sets requirements that run alongside the IB regardless of curriculum. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools, instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, and schools must organise separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Those subjects sit outside the Diploma points total and still occupy timetable hours, which is a scheduling fact worth knowing before adding a third weekly tutoring slot.

Two further pieces of context are useful for a Bur Dubai family planning the next two years. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. And the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places after a 6 per cent enrolment rise in 2025-26. More IB provision in the emirate is the direction of travel, which over time widens the local specialist pool that Bur Dubai currently finds thin. IB Gram holds no KHDA permit, no ADEK registration and no accreditation from the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and nothing on this page should be read as claiming otherwise.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Bur Dubai

Bur Dubai is a cluster of distinct communities rather than one district, and the practical difference between them is the evening. Where a family lives decides how long the school run takes, which determines the earliest hour a session can usefully start.

Al Mankhool

Dense mid-rise residential with several British-curriculum schools inside walking distance. Students here often reach home by 15:30, which makes a 16:00 session realistic rather than aspirational, and leaves room for a second subject later in the week.

Oud Metha

Home to some of the oldest and largest schools in Dubai, mostly Indian and British curriculum. Diploma students from Oud Metha families frequently commute outwards to an IB school, so sessions here are commonly booked for 18:30 or later.

Al Karama

Apartment living with large sibling groups and a single study space in many flats. The scheduling constraint is usually the device and the room rather than the clock, which is why two children in one household are normally given different evenings rather than back-to-back slots.

Al Jafiliya

Close to the Zabeel side and well connected by metro, so students here have unusually flexible access to schools in both directions. That widens school choice and means tutoring requests from Al Jafiliya span more curricula than any other Bur Dubai sub-community.

Al Satwa

Low-rise and well established, with most students travelling to schools in Jumeirah or Al Mankhool. Afternoon traffic along the Al Mina and Al Satwa roads is the limiting factor, and families here tend to prefer weekend morning sessions for intensive work.

Al Souq Al Kabeer and Al Fahidi

The historic core around the creek, where residential stock is older and smaller. Internet quality varies more here than in newer towers, so a trial lesson doubles as a connection test before a weekly slot is committed.

Umm Hurair

Adjacent to Oud Metha and sharing its school catchment, with the added advantage of proximity to the healthcare and university cluster. Older students here often have access to a quiet study environment outside the home, which suits late-evening Higher Level sessions.

Al Hamriya

Residential and port-adjacent, with families typically using schools in Deira and Al Garhoud. Crossing the creek twice a day compresses the usable study evening, and the realistic answer is two focused one-hour sessions rather than one long block.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Bur Dubai

Oud Metha, Umm Hurair and Al Mankhool

The established school belt of Bur Dubai, heavily weighted towards Indian and British curricula. Diploma candidates from these communities usually attend an IB school a short drive away, which is why the Diploma questions we get from this cluster are so often about transition from a different assessment culture.

  • The Indian High School, Oud Metha
  • Dubai Gem Private School, Oud Metha
  • St Mary's Catholic High School, Oud Metha
  • Ambassador School, Al Mankhool
  • New Indian Model School, Dubai

Al Garhoud and Deira

Across the creek and the nearest concentration of IB Diploma provision for Bur Dubai families. The commute is short in distance and unpredictable in time, which is the single biggest input into when a weekday session can start for a student attending here.

  • Deira International School, Al Garhoud
  • Universal American School, Al Garhoud
  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud
  • The Westminster School, Al Qusais
  • Dubai Scholars Private School, Al Qusais

Schools are named to describe the local school map around Bur Dubai. No affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any named school is implied, and inspection ratings should be read from KHDA's own published report for that school rather than from this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the deadline

Not the area. The useful detail is the subject and level, the school's current unit, the next internal deadline, and what the last assessment actually said. A parent in Al Mankhool and a parent in Al Hamriya get the same specialist; what differs is the hour the session starts, which is set by the school run.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson with the proposed tutor

One lesson, no payment and no card details, on a topic the student is currently stuck on rather than a prepared demonstration. It doubles as a connection test, which matters in the older residential stock around Al Fahidi and Al Souq Al Kabeer where internet quality varies between buildings.

  3. 03

A written plan with the deadlines on it

After the trial you get the sequence the tutor intends to follow, mapped against the school's own draft deadlines and mock window rather than against the examination date alone. For a DP2 student that map usually shows two or three internal assessments colliding, which is the thing worth planning around first.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions, with a note after each one

Same tutor, same slot, a short written record each time naming what was covered, what went wrong and what to do before the next session. Over a term the repeated errors in those notes are the clearest signal a family gets about whether the problem is knowledge or habit.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks, and change the plan if it is not working

Six weeks is long enough to see movement and short enough to act on. If the match is wrong, we change the tutor rather than defending the choice. If no specialist is free for a niche Higher Level subject, we say so instead of filling the slot with a generalist who will cost you a term.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on subject and level, not on distance

The number of adults near Bur Dubai who teach Higher Level Chemistry or have examined mathematical explorations is small. Removing the travel constraint removes the only variable that limits who is available without improving the teaching, which is the whole argument for online delivery in this district.

The schedule survives the creek

A video session does not lose half an hour to Al Mina Road at 17:40 and does not get cancelled because a tutor is stranded in Al Garhoud. Across twenty-four months of a Diploma, a schedule that actually holds is worth more than any single excellent lesson.

An explicit line on assessed work

Internal assessment and Extended Essay support is teaching, feedback and process coaching on the student's own writing. No text we produce enters a submission. The boundary is published here so a family can hold us to it and so a student is never put at risk of a malpractice finding.

Rates quoted as the market, with sources

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider or table that published it, with the month it was read. Three of the six competitor pages researched in this cluster publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars to families who transact in dirhams.

Availability stated honestly

Some Higher Level and group 6 subjects have genuinely thin specialist coverage. When that applies we name it, give an expected wait, and let you decide, rather than booking a trial with whoever is free and leaving you to discover the mismatch in week four.

Delivery described the same way everywhere

Tutoring for UAE families is online, one-to-one, over live video. Home visits are an India-only service and appear on no UAE page. One ranking competitor routes Dubai parents to an Indian phone number and another shows a Dubai address on an Abu Dhabi page; stating the model plainly is the alternative.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Bur Dubai: your questions answered

Does searching for an IB tutor near me in Bur Dubai make sense if the lessons are online?+

It makes sense as a search, because that is how parents look, and the phrase should be answered honestly rather than quietly redirected. IB Gram delivers tutoring to Bur Dubai over live video, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time. No tutor attends a UAE address; visiting tutors are an India-only service. What you gain is a specialist in the exact subject and level your child sits, drawn from a pool that is not limited to adults living between Al Mankhool and Oud Metha. What you give up is an adult in the room, which the free trial lesson exists to let you judge for yourself.

How much harder is Higher Level than Standard Level in the Diploma, in practice?+

Higher Level carries more taught hours, additional syllabus content, and in several subjects an extra paper or a longer one. The practical difference students feel is depth of application rather than volume of facts: Higher Level questions more often combine two topics and ask for a justified method rather than a known one. A capable student can usually carry three Higher Level subjects; four would not be permitted and three badly chosen is the common error. If a student is consistently at a 3 in a Higher Level subject by the middle of DP1, raising a change to Standard Level with the coordinator early is a legitimate strategy rather than a defeat.

How many points does my child need for the Diploma to be awarded?+

The minimum total is 24 points out of 45, but the total alone does not decide it. A set of failing conditions sits alongside the arithmetic: a grade 1 in any subject, too many grade 2s, too many grades of 3 or below, a Higher Level points total below a stated floor, a grade E in Theory of Knowledge or the Extended Essay, or incomplete Creativity-Activity-Service will each withhold the award independently. That is why tutoring money usually belongs in the weakest subject rather than the strongest. Confirm the current thresholds with your school's Diploma coordinator, because the IB publishes and revises these rules itself.

Which Diploma subject groups cause the most trouble during DP1?+

Group 4 sciences and group 5 mathematics generate the most requests from Bur Dubai families, because that is where content depth and technical internal assessment demands overlap. Group 3 subjects such as Economics and Business Management produce a different pattern: students usually know the content and lose marks on evaluation and diagram discipline, which is a shorter and cheaper fix. Group 1 and 2 languages generate fewer requests but higher stakes, because the individual oral is a single unrepeatable performance. The practical test is to find the two subjects that are both Higher Level and internally assessment-heavy, and start there.

Can a tutor help with the Extended Essay without crossing an academic-honesty line?+

Yes, and the line is clear enough to state. A tutor can teach the subject content, explain what the assessment criteria reward, question whether a research question is answerable within 4,000 words, read the student's own draft and say where it misses a criterion, and help plan a revision. A tutor cannot supply text that enters the submission, rewrite a conclusion, or produce an abstract. IB Gram does not sell completed Extended Essays or Internal Assessments and declines requests for them. The work must be the student's own, declared as such, and a malpractice finding falls on the student rather than on anyone else.

My child is at an Indian-curriculum school in Oud Metha and moving into the Diploma. What is the real gap?+

Rarely content. The gap is almost always in what the marking rewards. A student trained on completeness will write a page where the mark scheme wanted three justified lines, and will show a clean final answer where marks were available for five visible steps. Add command terms, which have defined meanings the student has never had to distinguish, and the independent research expected in an internal assessment with no prescribed method. A term of weekly work on past-paper technique usually closes most of it, and the student's actual subject knowledge is often stronger than their first Diploma report suggests.

How do IB grades of 1 to 7 translate into something a university recognises?+

Universities read the Diploma as the points total plus the individual Higher Level grades, and most offers are expressed that way: a total figure with specified grades in named Higher Level subjects. A 7 is the top band and a 4 is the conventional pass mark in a subject. UAE universities and international institutions each publish their own requirements, and the Ministry of Education's equivalency process is separate from an individual university's admission decision. Check the specific institution's published entry requirements and the Ministry's own guidance rather than any third-party summary, including this one.

Is Theory of Knowledge worth paying for tutoring on?+

It is worth enough attention to clear the floor and seldom worth more. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together contribute at most three points to a 45-point total, so the upside is small. The risk is not: a grade E in either is a failing condition that withholds the Diploma regardless of subject grades. The sensible approach is a small number of sessions on the exhibition and the essay, concentrated on answering the prescribed title rather than writing around it, with the rest of the budget going to a weak subject grade that carries far more points.

What does a one-hour online session with an IB tutor for a Bur Dubai student actually cover?+

One topic, narrowly. The student brings the unit the school is on or the question they could not finish; the tutor brings past-paper questions on that single topic running from accessible to the hardest version asked. The work happens on a shared screen with the student writing, so the tutor sees the second line of working where most errors are actually visible. The session closes with the student marking their own response against the published criteria and two or three named tasks before the next slot, plus a short written note of what went wrong and why.

How do I check whether a private tutor is legally allowed to teach in Dubai?+

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published. Ask a tutor directly whether they hold the permit, and check MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, for the current route.

Can a tutor give us IB past papers and mark schemes to work from?+

Not as downloads from us. IB, Cambridge and Pearson papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides are copyright, and reproducing or distributing them is a liability for the provider and of no benefit to the student. Schools have legitimate access to this material through their own subscriptions, and the boards publish specimen and sample material openly. Sessions work on material the student already has from school, on the boards' own published samples, and on questions the tutor writes to mirror the style. Ask the subject teacher or the Diploma coordinator for the school's access route.

My child has eleven weeks before the May session. Is it worth starting tutoring now?+

Eleven weeks is enough to change grades, and it changes what the sessions should be. Content building is largely out; what remains is triage. Identify the topics that carry the most marks across the papers, cross-reference them against the topics this student has most often got wrong, and work only on the overlap under timed conditions with mark schemes applied afterwards. Two or three sessions a week in a fixed block, ending when the examinations do. The one thing not worth doing in eleven weeks is starting a systematic pass through the syllabus from the beginning.

Does the IB Diploma satisfy UAE Ministry of Education equivalency requirements?+

Equivalency is a Ministry of Education process and the requirements differ by curriculum track. For the British track the published rule is five accredited subjects at IGCSE or GCSE with a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. For the IB there is no points threshold we have been able to read on the Ministry's own pages, so no figure is published here. Verify your child's position directly on moe.gov.ae or with the relevant attestation authority; tutoring is not required for equivalency and nobody should suggest it is.

What happens if no tutor is free for a niche Higher Level subject a Bur Dubai student takes?+

You are told, with an expected wait, and you decide. Some group 6 subjects and some less common Higher Level options have genuinely thin specialist coverage, and the alternative to saying so is booking a trial with a generalist and letting a family discover the mismatch in week four. Where a UAE-based specialist is not available, a specialist working from elsewhere on Gulf Standard Time may be offered instead, which is stated before any trial rather than discovered afterwards. No competitor page researched in this cluster discloses a coverage limit at all.

How do session times shift during Ramadan and the Bur Dubai school holidays?+

Yes, and for most Bur Dubai families they need to. Ramadan compresses the usable afternoon and shifts concentration later, so weekly slots commonly move to a post-Iftar time for the month and return afterwards. School holidays work the other way: a two-week break is the single best window for the intensive block that term-time cannot accommodate, particularly for a DP2 student with internal assessments due in the following term. Slots are agreed week by week where a family's schedule is genuinely unpredictable, and a missed session is rescheduled rather than treated as used.

Start with the subject, not the postcode

If you are looking for an IB tutor near me in Bur Dubai, the one piece of information that changes the outcome is the subject and level your child actually sits, followed by the next internal deadline on their school calendar. Send those two things and you will get a specialist in that exact course, a free trial lesson on a topic they are currently stuck on, and a written plan mapped against the school's own draft deadlines rather than against the examination date alone. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, evenings included, from Al Mankhool to Oud Metha to Al Hamriya. If no specialist is free for the course you need, we will say so.
