IGCSE Tutor near me in Bur Dubai

Typing IGCSE tutor near me in Bur Dubai finds you people who are close. It does not find you someone who has taught Cambridge 0620 electrolysis questions or knows how Pearson 4MA1 numbers its papers. This page is about the second thing: the syllabus codes behind your child's subjects, the papers they sit, the command terms that decide the band, and the past-paper work that recovers marks. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Teaching planned from the syllabus code, not a generic revision guide
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel paper structures handled separately
  • Command-term and method-mark work built into every session

IB & IGCSE in Bur Dubai

Proximity is the wrong filter for an IGCSE subject problem

Near me is a search habit rather than a requirement. It made sense when a tutor had to physically arrive, and it still returns the right answer for a seven-year-old who needs an adult turning the page. For a Year 10 or Year 11 student losing marks on moles calculations or on functions and transformations, proximity is noise. The question that matters is whether the person teaching has sat with that specific paper, marked it against the official scheme, and can name the three question types that are costing your child grades.

That is a narrow skill and it is unevenly distributed. Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel both award International GCSEs, and a Dubai school will often enter mathematics with one board and the sciences with another. Each board numbers its papers differently, tiers differently, and assesses practical science differently. A tutor drilling Cambridge 0625 past papers with a student entered for Pearson 4PH1 is teaching real physics against the wrong paper structure, and the marks lost are invisible until results day.

So this page is deliberately technical. It sets out the syllabus codes behind the subjects Old Dubai students actually take, what each paper assesses and roughly what it is worth, where marks leave the paper topic by topic, and what the command terms demand in practice. Those four things are what a subject tutor should be working on, and they are almost entirely absent from the pages currently ranking for this search. Across the competitor corpus measured for this project, exactly one syllabus code appeared on seven area-level pages combined.

On delivery, the position is simple and we state it early. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE — a tutor at the door is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, with the student's own marked script or past paper on a shared screen and the whiteboard saved afterwards. For syllabus-level work that is a better arrangement than a dining table, because the past paper, the mark scheme and the student's attempt can all be on screen at once.

The practical benefit for a Bur Dubai family is supply. A tutor who has taught Cambridge 0606 Additional Mathematics is not likely to live in Al Mankhool, and if they do they will already be teaching the families on their street. Removing travel from the arrangement means your child is matched on syllabus experience rather than on postcode, and it buys back the hour a Bur Dubai school run and the creek crossing would otherwise take out of the evening. It also widens the pool for the subjects where supply is thinnest in this part of the city, which in practice means Additional Mathematics, the separate sciences at Extended tier, and Economics.

At a glance

  • Ask the school for the board and syllabus code for every subject, in writing
  • Specifications, specimen papers and grade descriptions are free on each board's own site
  • UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February-March series is offered to India only
  • Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version
  • Market rates for qualified online subject tutors in Dubai run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE is the Year 10 and 11 stage of a British pathway, and in Old Dubai it is bracketed by two other stages that change what tutoring is worth buying. These are the three a Bur Dubai family actually encounters.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3, Years 7 to 9

No external examination, school-set assessment, and the stage where almost every Year 11 problem originates. The recurring gaps are algebraic manipulation, index laws, rearranging formulae, standard form and the written explanation IGCSE mark schemes insist on. None of those are hard to fix in Year 8 and all of them are expensive to fix in Year 11.

In Old Dubai this is the stage at which transfers from Indian and American curricula arrive, and the mismatch is almost never in topic coverage. A student may have met more mathematics and still score lower, because IGCSE questions ask for applied reasoning within a stated mark allocation rather than for a recalled procedure.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10 and 11

Two years, eight to ten subjects, external examination by Cambridge International or Pearson Edexcel. Each subject carries its own syllabus code, paper count and tiering structure, and in the sciences a separate practical-skills assessment. The grade scale differs by board and by subject, so a report can show a 7 and a B in the same term without contradiction.

Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, with results reaching students in January; November 2025 results landed on 22 January 2026 and June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026. Cambridge runs June and November series in the UAE. Always check the live official timetable, since provisional versions get revised.

A LevelAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

International A Level, Years 12 and 13

Three or four subjects in depth. The step up from IGCSE Extended in mathematics and the sciences is the largest in the British pathway, and students who reached a grade 7 by memorising procedures frequently stall in the first term. Additional Mathematics at IGCSE is the single best predictor of a comfortable start.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, students need one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at grade E or 3. Verify the current detail with the ministry or your emirate's attestation authority.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each subject below carries the codes Old Dubai schools actually enter students for, with the topics where marks reliably leave the paper. The codes are the starting point for any session worth paying for.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Extended adds functions, graph transformations, vectors and harder trigonometry. Marks leave on unshown method, on rounding mid-calculation, and on reading a three-step question as a one-step one. Non-calculator and calculator papers need separate practice, and most students only ever drill the one they prefer.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 International Mathematics · 0369 Further

Introduces differentiation, integration and harder algebra before A Level. Students who leaned on a calculator through 0580 struggle with algebraic manipulation here. A term of weekly work in Year 11 is usually what separates a comfortable A Level start from a difficult one.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Electricity, moments and anything requiring a graph to be interpreted rather than drawn. Definitions must be reproduced precisely to score, and multi-mark explanation questions need a taught structure. Cambridge's separate practical-skills paper loses students marks on variable control and method, not on physics.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Moles and concentration calculations, electrolysis, and organic reaction pathways. State symbols and significant figures cost single marks repeatedly across a paper. Explanation questions demand a cause rather than a description of a trend, which is the most common reason a confident student stalls in the middle bands.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

A long syllabus where command terms set the ceiling. Describe, explain and suggest ask for different things and students who write identical content for all three cap themselves. Data interpretation, graph work and the osmosis and enzyme practicals are the reliable mark sources and the reliable losses.

Coordinated and Combined Science

Cambridge 0653 Coordinated · 0973 Combined

Double-award and single-award routes compressing three sciences into fewer entries. The content is narrower than the separate sciences; the question style is identical, so technique work transfers directly. Confirming which route the school entered your child for matters before any revision plan is written.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990 · Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and reading response. Fluent speakers lose marks on structure and on evidence selection rather than vocabulary. Summary tasks punish paraphrase that drifts from the text, and the reading questions reward close, short quotation. Timed practice with a marked script is the only intervention that reliably works.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A separate qualification from first-language English with its own mark scheme and a speaking component. Many Old Dubai students are entered for this, and the two need different teaching. Checking the entry code prevents the most common mismatch between a tutor's preparation and the actual paper.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450 · Pearson 4BS1

Case-study application under time pressure. Marks sit in applying a concept to the stimulus, so students who memorise definitions score in the lower bands. Calculation questions are quick, reliable marks and are usually the first thing worth drilling in a short block.

Economics

Cambridge 0455 · Pearson 4EC1

Diagram accuracy is the fastest available grade change: a correctly labelled and correctly shifted diagram earns marks prose cannot recover. Evaluation questions need a two-sided argument with a supported judgement, which is a taught structure rather than an opinion.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478

Pseudocode under exam conditions, logic gates, data representation and the recurring trace-table questions. Students who can code in a real language often lose marks writing pseudocode to the board's conventions, which is a formatting problem rather than a programming one.

Arabic

Cambridge 0508 First Language · 0544 Foreign Language

Dubai private schools must teach Arabic whatever the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires Arab and non-Arab students to be taught in separate classes. First-language and foreign-language entries are different papers with different expectations, which is the most frequent entry mismatch in this district.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Subject-level IGCSE work comes in three shapes, and the right one depends on how much of the syllabus is still being taught rather than on how urgent it feels.

Weekly syllabus work alongside school

One subject, one hour, the same evening each week, following the school's scheme of work. The tutor teaches the topic the class is on, then works the past-paper questions on it before the class moves away. Keeping pace with the teaching rather than revisiting it in Year 11 is both cheaper and more effective, and it is the least often bought option.

  • Follows the school's own order of teaching, not a generic syllabus sequence
  • Past-paper questions on each topic while it is still fresh
  • Key Stage 3 gaps fixed as they surface rather than assumed away
  • Written note after each session naming the specific weakness

Paper-technique block before a series

Two sessions a week for six to eight weeks aimed at June or November. Content is largely taught by then, so the work is paper discipline: mark allocation, method lines, pacing, and the question types that reappear in every series of that syllabus. It opens with a full timed paper and closes with another one for comparison.

  • Diagnostic paper marked against the official published scheme
  • Topic order ranked by marks lost, not by syllabus order
  • Weekly timed section to rebuild pacing before the real paper
  • Defined stop date rather than an open-ended arrangement

Single-topic repair sessions

Two to four sessions on one named weakness: moles calculations, electrolysis, functions and transformations, the practical-skills paper. The narrowest and cheapest useful purchase in this market, and the right one when a student is otherwise solid and a single topic is costing them a grade boundary.

  • Scope agreed in advance so the engagement ends when the topic is fixed
  • Worked past-paper questions on that topic from several series
  • A short written diagnosis confirming whether the gap has closed
  • No pressure to extend into a general arrangement afterwards

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Bur Dubai

01

What near me really means for an IGCSE search in Bur Dubai

  • Ask which syllabus codes a tutor has taught, and for how many series
  • Ask for a marked past paper with losses broken down by topic
  • Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit
  • Distance answers none of those three questions

An IGCSE subject tutor working one-to-one online in the Dubai market costs roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, and a tutor who travels to a Bur Dubai address is quoted at roughly AED 200 to 500 including the drive. The premium buys proximity. What it does not buy is somebody who has taught the specific syllabus your child is entered for, because travel time narrows the pool to whoever lives nearby rather than widening it to whoever knows the paper.

That matters more at IGCSE than parents expect, because the subjects are not interchangeable at the level a tutor needs to work. Cambridge 0620 Chemistry and Pearson 4CH1 Chemistry both cover electrolysis, and they ask about it differently, number the papers differently and reward different written structures. A good general science teacher will teach the chemistry correctly and still leave marks on the table, and nobody in the room will notice until the results arrive.

The three questions that actually screen a tutor are therefore nothing to do with distance. Which syllabus codes have you taught, and for how many series? Can you mark a paper against the official scheme and tell me where the marks went by topic? And do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit? All three are answerable in a single message, and the answers vary far more between tutors than the advertised hourly rates do.

IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses — home visits are something we run only in India. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, which for syllabus work means the past paper, the official mark scheme and the student's own attempt can be on screen together, and the whiteboard is saved afterwards. The rest of this page is the substance a tutor should be bringing to that screen.

02

The syllabus codes behind your child's IGCSE subjects

Across the competitor pages measured for this project, exactly one syllabus code appeared on an entire seven-page area cluster. That is a strange gap, because the code is the first thing a tutor needs and the easiest thing for a school to supply. Everything downstream of it — which papers are sat, how long each lasts, whether there is a separate practical assessment, what the grade scale looks like — follows from the code and from nothing else.

The table below lists the codes Old Dubai schools commonly use, with the paper pattern for each. Treat it as an orientation rather than a specification: boards revise syllabuses, and the authoritative document is always the current specification on the board's own website. What the table is for is the conversation with the school. If you can ask whether your child sits 0580 Extended or 4MA1 Higher, and get a straight answer, the rest of the planning becomes concrete.

One structural point worth knowing. Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own version of the timetable, and the board states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone — it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. A tutor planning a revision schedule from a timetable found online rather than from the school's own copy is taking a risk nobody needs to take.

The practical use of all this is sequencing. Once you know the papers, the revision plan writes itself: a non-calculator paper and a calculator paper need separate practice, a separate practical-skills paper needs its own block of work, and a subject with two equally weighted papers needs coverage of the whole syllabus rather than the half the student enjoys. Students who revise by topic preference almost always arrive underprepared for one specific paper.

03

Where the marks actually leave the paper, topic by topic

  • Diagnose from a marked past paper, not from the student's own sense of difficulty
  • Rank topics by marks lost and work the top three
  • Method marks and command terms are the cheapest recoverable marks on any paper
  • Fluent English speakers still lose marks on evidence selection and summary discipline

Ask a Year 11 student what they find hard and they will name the topic they dislike. Mark a past paper against the official scheme and a different list appears. The two overlap less than you would expect, which is why every engagement should open with a marked script broken down by topic and by question type rather than with a conversation about confidence.

In mathematics the recurring losses are method lines that were never written, premature rounding inside multi-step calculations, and multi-step questions read as single-step ones. In Chemistry it is moles and concentration arithmetic, state symbols, and explanation questions answered with a description of a trend instead of a cause. In Physics it is selecting between two plausible equations under time pressure, and definitions reproduced approximately rather than precisely. In Biology it is command terms, graph work and statistical handling of data.

English behaves differently and catches confident families out. A student who speaks and writes fluently can still sit in the middle bands because the reading questions reward close, short selection of evidence and the summary tasks punish paraphrase that drifts. Those are structural habits, trainable in a handful of sessions with marked scripts, and almost never addressed by general conversation practice.

The useful consequence is that a short block beats a long vague one. If a marked paper shows thirty marks lost across moles calculations, electrolysis and state symbols, four sessions on those three things will move a grade boundary. Six months of general chemistry revision quite possibly will not, because it spreads the same hours across topics the student was already scoring on.

04

Mark-scheme language: the command terms that set the ceiling

Command terms are the most underrated part of IGCSE preparation. Every mark scheme is written around them, and a student who treats describe, explain and evaluate as synonyms has capped their grade before they write a word. The fix takes a few sessions, it transfers across every subject, and it is almost never taught explicitly because teachers assume it is obvious.

The table below sets out what each term actually demands and what typically loses the mark. The pattern across all of them is the same: the term tells you how many distinct things the examiner expects and what kind of thing each one is. A four-mark explain question wants four linked causal steps, not four descriptive statements about the same observation. A two-mark state question wants two facts and no justification, and a student who writes a paragraph wastes three minutes earning nothing extra.

Practising this is mechanical. Take a marked script, find the questions where the student scored half the available marks, and rewrite the answers to the structure the term demands. Within three or four sessions most students start reading the command term first and the stem second, which is the right order. It is the single most portable skill a tutor can leave behind, because it works in June and it still works at A Level.

There is a scheduling argument here too. Command-term work does not need the syllabus to be finished, so it can be done in Year 10 or early Year 11 rather than saved for the final block. Families who do it early find their later revision measurably more productive, because the student is practising against the standard the examiner applies rather than against their own sense of a complete answer.

IGCSE COMMAND TERMS AND WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DEMAND

05

Past-paper work that actually changes a score

  • Timed, closed-book, in one sitting, or the paper tells you nothing
  • Mark against the official scheme and award nothing for unwritten method
  • Record losses as a list by topic and question type
  • Reteach the top three, then sit another paper and compare

Everybody tells students to do past papers. Almost nobody specifies how, and done badly it is a way to spend six weeks confirming a grade rather than improving it. The common failure is a student working through papers untimed, with notes open, marking generously, and finishing with a folder of completed papers and no change in performance.

The method that works has four parts. Sit the paper to time, without notes, in one go. Mark it against the official scheme rather than from the answers in a revision guide, awarding nothing for what is not written down. Record the loss per topic and per question type in a list, not a feeling. Then reteach only the top three entries on that list before sitting another paper. The folder is irrelevant; the shrinking list is the product.

A tutor's value in that cycle is concentrated in two places. Marking honestly is the first — students and parents both mark too kindly, and a mark scheme is specific in ways that are easy to miss. Reteaching with exam phrasing is the second: a topic retaught from a textbook does not transfer to a paper, whereas the same topic taught through three past-paper questions from different series does. Boards publish those papers and specimen materials themselves, and tutors should reference and link them rather than circulate copies.

A note on honesty here. Reproducing or supplying syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads is copyright infringement, and we do not do it. Our tutors point students at the official source and work from what is legitimately available, which is more than enough material for any revision plan.

06

What subject-level IGCSE teaching costs in Dubai, and what travel adds

Take the travel premium on its own terms. The difference between an in-home visit at roughly AED 200 to 500 an hour and a qualified online subject tutor at roughly AED 150 to 300 is not a discount for a lesser service; it is the price of somebody's drive across Dubai at 5pm. Over a twenty-session block that premium is a four-figure sum, and the question worth asking is what it buys that a shared screen does not.

For syllabus-level work the honest answer is very little, and in one respect it buys less. The tutor at the table is drawn from the people who can reach your street before 7pm. The tutor on the screen is drawn from everyone who has taught 0606 or 4CH1. For a subject-specific problem that distinction decides whether the sessions address the actual weakness or merely cover the topic again more slowly.

The dirham figures across this market are published by a handful of providers and they spread widely. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, which buys supervision rather than syllabus teaching. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150. TutorChase publishes AED 270. Bestimate puts specialists at AED 200 to 450 and upwards, and the highest published rate found in this market is AED 650 at a premium named-tutor agency. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240 to 600 for a budget weekly hour, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work.

None of those are IB Gram prices. They are market figures, each attributed to whoever published them, and they are on this page because three of the six competitor pages measured for this project publish no price at all and two quote US dollars to families who transact in dirhams. Our own arrangement begins with a free trial lesson and a consultation about which syllabus and which series you are working towards.

Reading an IGCSE report: two grade scales, one child

Old Dubai households routinely hold reports on two different scales, sometimes for the same child in different subjects. Cambridge uses A* to G in most syllabuses and a 9 to 1 scale in some variants; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE reports on 9 to 1. A parent comparing a 6 in one subject with a B in another is not comparing like with like, and neither number means what the equivalent UK GCSE number means to a relative back home.

The practical approach is to ignore cross-subject comparison and read within a subject instead. What a parent needs from a report is the direction of travel in that subject, the gap between the current working grade and the target, and the teacher's comment on what is causing it. Those three things are actionable. A ranked list of grades across nine subjects mostly tells you which subjects the student enjoys.

For equivalency purposes the scale does matter, and the published rule is specific. Ministry of Education requirements on the British track ask for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count of five. One competitor page in this market tells UAE parents six subjects are needed, which is wrong. Equivalency is a ministry process; no tutoring provider performs it or guarantees it, and the requirements should be checked on the ministry's own pages.

Where a report shows a working grade well below the target, the question for a tutor is not whether the gap can close but which paper it closes on. A student two grades short usually has one paper carrying most of the loss, and finding out which one takes a single marked script. That is a far more useful piece of information than the report itself contains.

The permit question, and who may legally teach your child in Dubai

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years
  • Applications go through MoHRE's own service, with a stated two-working-day completion
  • No fine schedule is published, so no specific penalty figure should be quoted at you
  • A tuition centre with premises needs a separate KHDA Educational Services Permit

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and the position is clearer than most of this market lets on. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

MoHRE's own service for it is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system, with no fee listed and a stated two-working-day completion time. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any specific amount quoted at you with suspicion — including figures that circulate online.

Two further points a Bur Dubai parent should know. A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal entity from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, so nobody should describe themselves as holding KHDA status without that permit. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, with the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carrying a similar restriction. Treat that as press-reported and verify against the current policy document before relying on it.

The reason this sits on a subject-focused page is that the permit is the one credential a parent can actually verify in a market full of unverifiable claims. Ask for it. A tutor who holds one will show it; a tutor who objects to the question has answered it. IB Gram holds no regulator or examination-board accreditation and does not claim any, and we would rather say that plainly than imply an approval nobody in this market actually has.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Bur Dubai

Bur Dubai students travel across a tight district to school, and the areas below are the ones they come from and go to. The subject supply problem described on this page is identical in all of them.

Al Mankhool

Several British and Indian schools within walking distance, so a 4pm start is realistic. The practical advantage here is an alert student rather than a wider choice of tutor.

Karama

Compact flats where study space is usually shared. Shorter, sharper sessions with headphones outperform long evening ones, whatever the subject.

Oud Metha

Large schools beside the sports-club corridor, so three weekday evenings are often already committed. Syllabus work here has to fit around a fixed activity timetable.

Al Jaddaf

Newer towers with an IB continuum school close by. Families here are frequently new to British-system codes and tiering, which is where the first hour of explanation pays off.

Al Garhoud

Across the creek with several British and IB schools. The crossing is the variable: a 3.15pm collection rules out a 4.30pm session on a school day.

Deira

Heavy afternoon congestion and a wide curriculum spread, including schools entering students with both boards in different subjects. Checking the code per subject matters most here.

Al Qusais

A long school corridor towards Sharjah. The longest commutes in Old Dubai, which makes a session with no travel attached worth more than a rate difference.

Al Mamzar

The northern edge of the district. In-home quotes from a New Dubai base are least competitive here, so the online and in-home gap is widest.

Bur Dubai, Al Mankhool and Oud Metha

Long-established British schools entering students for Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE alongside large Indian-curriculum schools. Boards vary by subject inside a single school here, which is exactly why the entry code question comes before anything else.

  • Dubai Gem Private School
  • St Mary's Catholic High School
  • Ambassador School
  • The Indian High School, Dubai
  • Dubai English Speaking School

Al Garhoud, Al Jaddaf and Festival City

A short drive across the creek, holding much of the district's IB provision alongside British schools running IGCSE. Students from Bur Dubai cross daily for these schools, which shapes the realistic start time for any weekday session.

  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School
  • Swiss International Scientific School
  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud
  • Rashid School for Boys

Deira, Al Qusais and Al Mamzar

A broad curriculum mix on the northern side of Old Dubai, with published inspection bands that differ sharply inside a short radius. One school's report says nothing reliable about another two streets away.

  • Al Ittihad Private School, Al Mamzar
  • The Westminster School
  • The Millennium School
  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • Apple International School

Schools are named as context for the Bur Dubai education map. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school named, and none should be inferred.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the syllabus code and a marked script

The code tells us which paper to prepare for; the marked script tells us where the marks are going. Those two items together are worth more than any description of the problem, and both are usually available from the school within a day of asking.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson spent marking, not selling

The first session costs nothing and is used to work through a real past paper or a recent assessment with the student. You get a written breakdown of losses by topic afterwards whether or not you continue.

  3. 03

A ranked topic list with a stop point

The plan names the three topics carrying the most marks, the order they will be worked in, and the point at which we sit another paper and compare. A plan with no comparison point cannot be judged until it is too late to act on.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions on an Old Dubai timetable

The slot is fixed around the real school run, club commitments and Ramadan hours, and runs one-to-one over live video. The whiteboard is saved and the session recorded, so the student can revisit the explanation rather than rely on memory.

  5. 05

    Compare, then continue or finish

At the agreed point you see a second marked paper set against the first. If the list of error types has not shortened we change the tutor or the method; if the topic is fixed we say so and stop rather than extending by default.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Taught from the code, not from a subject name

Every session is planned from the syllabus your child is actually entered for, using the board's own specimen papers and published mark schemes. A tutor working from the other board's material is approximately right in a way that quietly costs marks.

Diagnosis before teaching

No plan is written before a real paper has been marked against the official scheme and broken down by topic. A student's own account of what they find difficult is a different list from the one the marks show.

Command terms taught explicitly

Most students have never had the difference between describe, explain and evaluate taught as a skill. It transfers across every subject and every series, and it is the cheapest set of recoverable marks on any IGCSE paper.

Market rates published and attributed

Every dirham figure here names the provider that published it. Three of six competitor pages measured for this project publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars to families who pay in dirhams.

Official sources referenced, not copied

We link specifications, specimen papers and timetables on the boards' own sites rather than circulating copies, because reproducing those documents is copyright infringement whoever is doing it.

No accreditation claimed that we do not hold

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson approval and claims none. In a market where that phrase is used loosely, saying so is a more useful signal than another badge.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Bur Dubai: your questions answered

Does it matter whether an IGCSE tutor lives near us in Bur Dubai?+

Only if your child needs an adult physically present to start working, which is mostly a younger-student issue. For a Year 10 or Year 11 subject problem, distance narrows the pool to whoever can reach your street rather than widening it to whoever has taught the paper. The three questions that actually screen a tutor are which syllabus codes they have taught, whether they can mark a paper against the official scheme and report losses by topic, and whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit. None of them is about location.

If our school switches maths board, how much of the preparation carries over?+

Both award an International GCSE in mathematics and both are accepted for UAE university entry and ministry equivalency. They tier differently — Cambridge uses Core and Extended, Pearson uses Foundation and Higher — and they structure and number their papers differently, with Cambridge separating non-calculator and calculator assessment. Content overlaps substantially at the top tier, so the real risk is practising the wrong paper structure and the wrong mark-scheme phrasing. Ask the school for the code, then use that board's own specimen papers rather than whatever a revision site offers.

How do I get a proper diagnosis of where my child is losing IGCSE marks?+

Sit one full past paper to time, closed book, in a single session, then mark it against the board's published scheme rather than against a revision guide's answers, awarding nothing for method that is not written down. Record the losses as a list by topic and by question type. That list is almost always different from the topics the student says they find hard, and it is the only sensible basis for deciding what four or eight sessions should contain. Our free trial lesson is spent doing exactly this.

Why do command terms matter so much in IGCSE marking?+

Because every mark scheme is built around them. A four-mark explain question wants four linked causal steps; writing four descriptive statements about the same observation scores one. A two-mark state question wants two facts, and a paragraph earns nothing extra while costing three minutes. Students who treat describe, explain and evaluate as synonyms cap themselves in the middle bands across every subject. It takes three or four sessions to fix, it transfers to every paper, and it can be done in Year 10 before the syllabus is finished.

Is my child's Cambridge practical-skills paper teachable online?+

Yes, because it tests experimental reasoning rather than manual dexterity. The marks go on identifying dependent and independent variables, spotting an uncontrolled factor, choosing sensible axes and scales, drawing a line of best fit, reading a value from a graph, and explaining an anomaly in precise written form. All of that is taught at a desk using the board's own past practical papers and mark schemes. The school runs the laboratory work; the paper rewards the interpretation, and that is where most students are losing marks.

My child does lots of past papers but the score never moves. Why?+

Almost always because of how they are being done. Untimed, with notes available, marked generously against a revision guide rather than the official scheme, and never followed by reteaching. That cycle produces a folder of completed papers and no change. The version that works is timed and closed-book, marked against the published scheme with nothing awarded for unwritten method, losses recorded as a list by topic, and only the top three entries retaught before the next paper. The shrinking list is the evidence, not the folder.

How many sessions does a single weak IGCSE topic usually take?+

Two to four for something contained, such as moles and concentration calculations, electrolysis, or functions and graph transformations. The sequence is the same each time: teach the underlying idea properly, work three or four past-paper questions on it from different series, then check it against a question the student has not seen. If the topic is still costing marks after four sessions the diagnosis was probably wrong and the weakness sits one level below, usually in algebra or in reading the question.

Which IGCSE subjects do Bur Dubai students most often need help with?+

Mathematics by a wide margin, then Chemistry and Physics, then English Language, with Business Studies and Accounting behind. Additional Mathematics appears in Year 11 from students heading for A Level Mathematics or Higher Level Analysis and Approaches. Requests for Arabic rise steadily through the year, which follows from the fact that every Dubai private school timetables it whatever curriculum it is licensed for, and that first-language and foreign-language entries are different papers requiring different teaching.

Can a tutor give us past papers and mark schemes to keep?+

We reference and link the official sources rather than circulating copies, because reproducing syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables is copyright infringement regardless of who does it. Cambridge and Pearson both publish specifications, specimen papers and other materials on their own sites, and schools have access to more through their examinations officer. There is far more legitimate material available than any revision plan needs, and working from the official version also avoids the stale and altered copies that circulate on file-sharing sites.

Does a 6 on my child's report mean the same as a B?+

No, and the two scales should not be compared across subjects. Cambridge reports A* to G in most syllabuses and 9 to 1 in some variants, while Pearson Edexcel International GCSE reports 9 to 1. Neither maps neatly onto the UK GCSE scale a relative abroad might be thinking of. The useful way to read a report is within one subject: direction of travel, the gap to the target, and the teacher's account of what is causing it. Cross-subject ranking tells you mostly about preference.

What does the UAE British-track equivalency rule actually ask of an IGCSE student?+

Five. The published British-track requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, alongside one accredited A-Level at grade E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. One page currently ranking in this market tells UAE parents six subjects are required, which is incorrect. Equivalency is a Ministry of Education process that no tutoring provider performs or guarantees, so verify current requirements on the ministry's own pages or with your emirate's attestation authority.

Which IGCSE series will my child in Dubai actually sit?+

June or November. The February and March series circulating online is offered to India only, and revising a UAE child towards it is a genuine error rather than a technicality. For Pearson, the International GCSE November 2026 timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026 with results reaching students in January; November 2025 results arrived on 22 January 2026 and June 2026 results on 20 August 2026. Cambridge also allocates centres to one of six zones with different timetable versions, so use the school's own copy.

Should we start IGCSE tutoring in Year 10 or wait until Year 11?+

Year 10, if the aim is a grade rather than a rescue. Content is being taught in Year 10, so weekly work that keeps pace with the class is both cheaper across two years and more effective than revisiting the same material under pressure a term before the papers. Year 10 is also when tier decisions are made, and a term of focused work is often what turns a borderline Core recommendation into a viable Extended entry. Year 11 blocks are technique work on content that should already be in place.

How do we verify that a Dubai tutor is permitted to teach privately?+

Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. It is issued through MoHRE's own Private Tutor Licensing service, which lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so disregard any specific figure quoted at you. A tuition centre with premises needs a separate KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a different thing entirely.

Send the code and a marked script

The quickest route to a useful first session is two pieces of information: the syllabus code your child is entered for, and a photograph of a recent marked piece of work. From those we can tell you which paper is carrying the loss and roughly how many sessions it will take to close. The first lesson is free and is spent marking a real paper rather than selling you a plan. Every session runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the Bur Dubai school run, with the whiteboard saved and a written breakdown afterwards.
