IB Psychology Tutor in Dubai

Hire an IB Psychology tutor in Dubai on evidence rather than on reassurance. The things that prove a course of sessions is working are specific and readable by a parent: marked short-answer responses with the command term handled properly, an Internal Assessment draft annotated criterion by criterion, and band movement recorded against dated scripts across Dubai's mock window. This page sets out what that record looks like. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Progress tracked against dated marked scripts, not impressions

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

What evidence that Psychology tutoring is working actually looks like

Psychology is a subject where a student can feel more confident every week and score exactly the same in August. The content is interesting, the discussion is enjoyable, and none of that is assessed. What is assessed is whether a short-answer response does what the command term asked, whether an extended response evaluates rather than describes, and whether an Internal Assessment report meets five criteria with specific mark allocations. Those are all visible on paper, which means progress in this subject can be proved rather than asserted.

So this page is built around a record. The first marked script a Dubai family sends becomes the baseline: which command terms were misread, how many studies were used accurately, whether the ethical consideration was named or gestured at. Each subsequent script is marked the same way, and the comparison is the evidence. A parent who cannot see that comparison after six weeks of paid sessions has no way to tell whether the money is working.

The same logic applies to the Internal Assessment, which is where the most arguable marks in the subject sit. An IA draft can be annotated criterion by criterion, with the letter and the available marks written against each section. A second draft can be annotated the same way. That is a readable record of movement on a component worth a quarter of the Standard Level grade, and it is the single most informative document a Psychology family can hold.

Dubai supplies a useful calendar for this. Schools here run mock examinations in a window from roughly late November to February, which gives every candidate at least one fully marked set of scripts before the real session. A tutoring plan anchored to that window has a natural before and after. Families who start in October have a baseline, a mid-point and a mock to measure against; families who start in March have a deadline and no measurement.

Delivery is stated plainly once. Psychology support for Dubai families is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the school day. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Marked scripts and IA drafts are annotated on a shared screen, which keeps the record in one place rather than in a pile of paper.

A note on what this page deliberately does not contain. There are no claims about how many of our students improved by how much, because a figure like that is worthless without the number of students it covers, the date it was measured and the method used to measure it, and nobody in this market publishes those. Several ranking competitors do publish satisfaction percentages and self-asserted star ratings; one shows two different review totals on the same page. A record about your own child, with dates and scripts attached, tells you more than any of it.

At a glance

  • The baseline is a marked script, not a conversation about how the student feels
  • Short-answer responses are checked against the command term every time
  • IA drafts are annotated by criterion letter with the marks available named
  • Dubai's mock window gives a natural mid-course measurement point
  • Paper 1 carries 50% of the Standard Level grade and 40% at Higher Level
  • Sessions run over live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Psychology exists as a formal course only in the Diploma Programme, but the research-literacy habits it assesses begin in the Middle Years Programme, and Dubai families often ask about the subject a year before the choice is made.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Psychology sits in Group 3 at Standard or Higher Level. Every candidate studies the biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches to behaviour, one option from abnormal, developmental, health or human relationships, and research methodology. Assessment is Paper 1 on the approaches, Paper 2 on the option, and an Internal Assessment reporting a simple experimental replication. Higher Level adds extension content and a third paper on research methodology.

Dubai Psychology cohorts are generally healthy, because the subject recruits well from students who did not enjoy Economics or Business. That produces a particular problem: a cohort containing many students who chose Psychology to avoid something else, who then discover that the subject demands precise study recall and tight evaluation. Diagnosing that early from a marked script saves a disappointing DP2.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP Individuals and Societies and the MYP sciences both contribute. The criterion-referenced rubric trains students to address stated requirements rather than write generally, and MYP science investigations introduce variables, controls and ethical consideration. A student who has taken MYP investigation seriously finds the Psychology Internal Assessment familiar in shape if not in detail.

The transition most Dubai students feel is the move from a rubric they can read while writing to a timed paper with a command term they must decode. MYP5 students write good analytical prose with time to think, then produce a short-answer response under time pressure that answers a question nobody asked. A short block on command terms in DP1 is the cheapest fix available.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Psychology pairs naturally with career-related studies in health, social care and sport, and CP students sit the same papers and submit the same Internal Assessment as Diploma Programme candidates. The reduced overall load usually leaves more time for the experimental report, which is an advantage in a component where careful write-up beats clever design.

CP cohorts in Dubai remain small, and a CP Psychology student is frequently the only one taking the course in their year group. For an evidence-led approach that is actually convenient: with no classmates to compare against, a tutor's dated record of marked scripts becomes the only benchmark available, and it does the job well.

MYP to DP transitionAges 15-17 · Years 11-12

Year 11 into DP1

The decision point for Psychology in Dubai schools, and worth treating as its own phase. Students choose the subject on the basis of a taster lesson or a friend's recommendation, with little sense of what the assessment demands. A single session spent on a real past short-answer question and a real Internal Assessment extract answers the question better than any prospectus.

Where Dubai differs from most markets is school mobility: a student may choose Psychology at one school and start it at another, with a different option topic selected by the new school. Because the option carries Paper 2 entirely, that is not a detail. Confirm the option with the teacher before buying any tutoring at all.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Psychology is requested alongside a predictable set of courses, and the overlaps are worth naming because they affect how a tutoring plan should be sequenced across a term.

Psychology

HL and SL

Three approaches, one option, research methodology, and an experimental Internal Assessment. Marks go missing on command terms, on studies recalled vaguely, and on evaluation that lists strengths and weaknesses without weighing them against the question asked.

Biology

HL and SL

Directly supports the biological approach: hormones, neurotransmission, genetics and brain localisation all appear in both courses. Students taking both can usually describe a mechanism accurately, which is where Psychology-only candidates tend to be vague.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistics content supports the Internal Assessment and the Higher Level research methodology paper. Descriptive statistics, measures of central tendency and dispersion, and the logic of inferential testing all appear in the experimental report.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Carries the writing control extended responses need. A Psychology extended response is a structured argument under time pressure, and students whose paragraphing drifts produce answers that contain the right material in an order an examiner cannot credit.

Economics

HL and SL

Shares Group 3 and an evaluation requirement. Behavioural content in Economics sits close to the cognitive approach, and students taking both tend to write more disciplined conclusions because both courses penalise unweighed assertion.

Business Management

HL and SL

Overlaps on motivation, leadership and organisational behaviour. Students taking both often find the human resource management content in Business easier, and can use real organisational examples to anchor abstract Psychology models.

Global Politics

HL and SL

Supports the sociocultural approach with material on identity, conflict and culture. Students taking both write more confident cultural dimension answers, which is a recurring weak point for candidates relying on a single textbook chapter.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

SL

Pairs well where the Psychology option is health psychology. Shared content on stress, physiology and behaviour change means two courses reinforcing one another, and the practical investigation discipline transfers to the Psychology Internal Assessment.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Unusually relevant here. Psychology's methodological debates are TOK questions in disguise, and students who engage with TOK write stronger evaluations of research because they can discuss the limits of a method rather than list them.

Arabic B

HL and SL

Carried alongside Psychology by many Dubai students, and relevant where an Internal Assessment replication involves participants who are more comfortable in Arabic. Materials and briefings have to be handled carefully and documented honestly.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Psychology support is worth buying in one of three shapes, each with its own evidence trail. All of them run over live video on Gulf Standard Time rather than at a Dubai address.

Marked-script cycles

The core mode and the one that generates the record. Each session begins with a timed response the student wrote since the last one, marked against the published criteria and annotated specifically. Over a term this produces a dated sequence of scripts a parent can read in order, which is the only reliable evidence that paid sessions are changing marks rather than confidence.

  • One timed response produced between every pair of sessions
  • Marked against published criteria with the command term checked first
  • Dated and kept in order so movement is visible, not claimed
  • Review points where the plan changes if the scripts are static

Internal Assessment draft review

A short block around the experimental report. The student designs and runs the replication, collects the data and writes every word. The tutor explains each criterion with its mark allocation, questions whether the design genuinely replicates the chosen study, asks what the statistical choice is justified by, and marks drafts by criterion letter. No text is written for the student.

  • Criteria explained by letter with marks available named
  • Replication checked against the original study's design
  • Ethical considerations named and documented, not gestured at
  • Drafts annotated by criterion; no sentences supplied

Post-mock repair blocks

For students whose mock scripts came back below expectation. The work starts from those scripts rather than from the syllabus: which command terms were misread, which studies were recalled without detail, where evaluation listed instead of weighed. This is diagnostic work and it is short, usually four to six sessions, with a clear re-test at the end.

  • Begins from the actual mock scripts, not a diagnostic test
  • Targets the two or three repeating errors rather than everything
  • Ends with a re-test under the same conditions for comparison
  • Bounded in length so cost is known before the first session

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

Reading a marked Psychology script: the baseline a tutor should start from

A returned Psychology script carries more information than most families extract from it. The mark is the least useful part. What matters is the pattern: which question types lost proportionally most, whether the loss was in knowledge or in response structure, and whether the same error appears in more than one answer. Five minutes with a marked script and the published criteria produces a diagnosis that a term of general revision would not reach.

The first thing to check is the command term in each question against what the student actually wrote. In Psychology the short-answer questions use a tight set of terms, and each one has a defined demand. A response to outline that explains at length wastes time and collects no extra credit. A response to evaluate that describes two studies has not met the demand at all. This mismatch is the commonest single reason a knowledgeable student scores modestly.

The second check is study detail. Candidates are expected to use research to support claims, and the difference between a credited use and an uncredited one is specificity: who was studied, what was manipulated, what was found, and why that supports the point being made. Students who write the researcher's name and a one-line conclusion are offering a label rather than evidence, and examiners cannot reward a label.

The third check is whether evaluation weighs anything. Listing a strength and a limitation is a description of a study's properties. Evaluation requires saying what that limitation does to the conclusion in the context of the question asked. The gap between those two is usually a band, and it is the gap most visible on a marked script once a parent knows to look for it.

Where the Psychology grade is actually decided, component by component

Psychology is unusual in how much of the grade sits in a single paper. At Standard Level, Paper 1 on the three approaches to behaviour carries 50% of the total, Paper 2 on the chosen option carries 25%, and the Internal Assessment carries 25%. At Higher Level, Paper 1 carries 40%, Paper 2 20%, the research methodology paper 20% and the Internal Assessment 20%. Families should confirm current weightings with the school's coordinator, since subject guides are periodically revised.

The practical consequence is that a Standard Level student who neglects Paper 1 is neglecting half the grade. Paper 1 contains both short-answer questions on the approaches and an extended response, and the extended response is where the largest single block of marks in the subject sits. A student who writes competent short answers and a disorganised extended response has capped their grade regardless of content knowledge.

Paper 2 depends entirely on which option the school chose, which is why confirming it matters before any tutoring is bought. Abnormal, developmental, health and human relationships are substantially different bodies of content, and preparing the wrong one is a total loss rather than a partial one. This is a real risk for students who move school mid-programme in a mobile city.

The Internal Assessment is the component most amenable to planned improvement, because it is written over weeks rather than produced in two hours. It is also the component where the most arguable marks sit, since criterion judgements have discretion built into them. A draft annotated criterion by criterion, revised, and annotated again is the clearest evidence of progress available anywhere in this course.

The Internal Assessment: a replication, its criteria, and what a tutor may do

The Psychology Internal Assessment asks the student to replicate a simple published experimental study, report it formally, and evaluate it. It is marked against criteria covering the introduction, the exploration of method, the analysis of results and the evaluation, with a specific number of marks attached to each. Families should get the exact criteria and mark allocations from the school's teacher, because quoting them from an aggregator risks quoting a previous version.

Most lost marks are structural. The introduction has to justify the replication against the original study and state a hypothesis that the chosen design can actually test. Students frequently write an interesting introduction about the topic in general, which earns little, and then run a design that tests something adjacent to the hypothesis they stated. Those two errors compound: the analysis answers a question the introduction did not ask, and the evaluation has nothing coherent to evaluate.

The second cluster of lost marks is in the analysis. Descriptive statistics have to be appropriate and correctly presented, the inferential choice has to be justified rather than asserted, and the results have to be stated in relation to the hypothesis. Students routinely produce a graph that does not show what they claim it shows, which a reader notices immediately and the student does not.

The boundary is the same across every IB internal component and worth stating plainly, because parts of this market cross it. A tutor may explain each criterion and its marks, question whether the design replicates the original study, ask what justifies a statistical choice, check that ethical considerations are specific, read a draft the student wrote and annotate it by criterion. A tutor may not write any section, rewrite prose, produce the analysis or supply text. Submitting work that is not the student's own is malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the candidate.

04

How many studies a Psychology candidate actually needs

  • A small set of studies known fully beats a long list known as names
  • Full detail is participants, manipulation, findings and design limitation
  • Organise by approach and by question demand, not alphabetically
  • Write a study from memory cold as a repeatable progress check
  • Over-supply in one approach and gaps in another are common and visible
  • Studies used for evaluation need their design weaknesses understood, not listed

Students collect studies the way some people collect receipts: in quantity, without organisation, and without being able to find the right one when needed. The useful number is smaller than most candidates believe and the required depth is greater. A small set of studies known in full detail outperforms a long list known as names.

Full detail means four things that can be written from memory: who the participants were and in what context, what was manipulated or measured, what was found with some indication of magnitude or direction, and what the study's design limits about the conclusion. A student who can produce those four elements for a study can use it as evidence in a short answer, in an extended response and in an evaluation. A student with the researcher's name and a slogan can use it nowhere.

The organising principle that works is a grid rather than a list: approaches down one axis, the demands of likely questions across the other, with each study placed where it can actually be used. Built properly, that grid shows immediately where a student is over-supplied and where they have nothing, and it makes revision a filling-in exercise rather than a rereading one.

This is also where evidence of progress is easy to generate. Ask a student to write a study in full detail from memory, cold, at the start of a term and again six weeks later. The two pieces of paper are the record. It costs five minutes of a session and produces something a parent can read without knowing any Psychology at all.

05

Higher Level Paper 3 and research methodology as examinable content

Higher Level candidates sit an additional paper on research methodology, built around an unseen stimulus describing a piece of research. It asks candidates to identify and discuss methodological features, consider ethical issues, and evaluate what can legitimately be concluded. It is widely under-prepared because methodology is taught as a tool for the Internal Assessment rather than as examinable content in its own right.

The content is specific and learnable. Sampling methods and their consequences, research designs and their trade-offs, the distinction between credibility and generalisability in qualitative work, reflexivity, triangulation, and the ethical considerations that apply at each stage of a study. None of it is conceptually hard. All of it requires precise vocabulary used correctly under time pressure, which is a drilling job.

The characteristic failure on this paper is answering about the content of the stimulus rather than about its methodology. A student reads an interesting study about memory and writes about memory. The paper is not asking about memory. Recognising that distinction reliably takes practice on several stimuli, which is exactly the sort of work that shows up as band movement across dated attempts.

For an evidence-led plan, Paper 3 is convenient: the questions are short, the attempts are quick to produce, and marking is relatively unambiguous. A student can generate one attempt a week with little effort, which means six weeks of work leaves six dated scripts behind. Higher Level families who want to see whether tutoring is working should start here.

06

A progress record a Dubai parent can actually read

The common complaint about tutoring is not cost, it is opacity. Sessions happen, reports say the student is engaging well, and nobody knows whether anything has changed. In Psychology that is avoidable, because every component produces paper. The table below is the shape of record we think any provider should be able to hand over, and which a Dubai family should ask for from whoever they hire.

Note what it does not contain. No percentage improvement claims, no satisfaction scores, no statistics about other students. Those numbers circulate widely in this market and almost none of them come with the sample size, date and method that would make them meaningful. A record about one student, with dates and scripts attached, is worth more than any aggregate claim about a cohort nobody can inspect.

The record also makes the stopping decision possible. If six weeks of marked scripts show the same command-term error repeating, the plan is wrong and should change, or the tutor should. If the scripts show movement on the two errors targeted and the student is now losing marks somewhere new, the block has done its job and a new, shorter block addresses the next thing. Open-ended tutoring without a record has no natural end.

One practical note for Dubai families specifically. Keep the mock scripts. Schools return them, students lose them, and they are the most valuable diagnostic document in the two years. A marked mock paper with examiner-style annotations, read properly, is worth more than several hours of tutoring bought without it.

KHDA inspection bands and what a school report does and does not tell you

Dubai parents have an unusual amount of public information about their children's schools, and it is often misread when tutoring decisions are made. KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, and it inspects private schools on a six-band scale running from Outstanding down to Very Weak.

What an inspection band describes is the school's provision across many measures: teaching, leadership, inclusion, student outcomes across phases and subjects. What it does not describe is the quality of Diploma Programme Psychology teaching in a particular year, which depends on one or two individuals. A school in a high band can have a weak year in a minority subject after a staffing change, and a school in a lower band can have an excellent Psychology department. Parents should read the subject-level detail in the report rather than the headline.

The context around those reports is worth knowing. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with UK schools at 37% of enrolment, Indian at 26%, US at 14% and the International Baccalaureate at 7%. Seven new private schools join for the 2026-27 intake, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 places; KHDA also confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year.

Two cautions follow. KHDA regulates schools and does not license individual private tutors, which is MoHRE's responsibility, so no tutoring service should present a regulator's name as a credential. And an inspection band is not a reason to buy tutoring or to avoid it. The reason to buy tutoring is a marked script showing a specific, fixable loss, which is where this page started.

08

Online Psychology tuition against the in-home market in Dubai

For a subject built on annotated paper, the delivery comparison has a clear answer, and it is worth setting out with the market numbers attached rather than asserting it. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is part of our India service only. The table reports what the Dubai market charges and then states our position.

The specific advantage for Psychology is document handling. A marked script annotated on a shared screen stays in one place, accumulates, and can be compared with the one from six weeks ago in two clicks. The same work done on paper in a living room produces a pile that is somewhere in the house by March. For an approach that depends on a readable record, that difference is not trivial.

The in-home premium is real and quantifiable. Bestimate puts Dubai home visits at AED 180 to 350 and market home tutors at AED 200 to 500, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and advertised monthly packages run AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits against AED 799 for eight online sessions. The difference is travel, and in an emirate where a cross-city drive at 6pm takes an hour, it is a substantial sum for road time.

The honest case for presence remains for younger students and for households where connectivity is poor. For a Diploma Programme Psychology candidate working on command terms and criterion-level Internal Assessment feedback, the decisive factor is whether the tutor marks this subject against these criteria, and video delivery means that question can be answered on merit rather than on geography.

Dubai communities Psychology requests come from

Psychology enquiries arrive from across the emirate, and the useful difference between communities is what stage the request is made at: baseline diagnosis, Internal Assessment supervision or post-mock repair.

Jumeirah and Al Safa

Established schools within short commutes, so requests are often made early in DP1 with time to build a record of marked scripts. Families here tend to ask for fortnightly work and a measurable mid-point before mocks.

Umm Suqeim and Al Manara

Villa communities feeding both IB and British-route schools, which means siblings on different assessment systems. Psychology enquiries often follow an older sibling's A Level experience, and the differences in evaluation demands need explaining.

The Springs and The Meadows

Family housing organised around a few schools with settled Diploma Programme provision. Internal Assessment requests dominate here, usually arriving when the school's first draft deadline is three weeks away.

Al Barsha and Dubai Science Park

A dense school catchment with several IB options nearby. The common pattern is a post-mock request: a marked script showing a disappointing band and a family wanting a precise diagnosis rather than general revision.

Jumeirah Golf Estates and Dubai Production City

Newer communities with growing secondary cohorts and longer drives to much of the emirate's DP provision. The travel component inside an in-home quote is substantial from here, which the comparison table later on quantifies.

Deira and Al Mamzar

Older, denser housing east of the creek with a smaller set of Diploma Programme places nearby. Psychology requests from this cluster often involve students comparing the DP with A Levels and wanting to understand how the Internal Assessment differs from coursework.

Nad Al Sheba and Dubai Investment Park

Spread-out communities where a household's school run can consume the early evening entirely. Sessions here are typically booked after 7pm, which is easy over video and difficult for a tutor driving in from elsewhere.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the most recent marked Psychology script

A returned short-answer set, an extended response or a mock paper with the teacher's marks on it. This is the baseline. Without it, the first two sessions are spent establishing what a script would have shown in five minutes.

  2. 02

Confirm which option the school teaches

Abnormal, developmental, health or human relationships. Paper 2 is entirely option content, so preparing the wrong one is a total loss. The teacher can confirm it in one message, and no tutor should guess.

  3. 03

Agree two or three target errors

Not a syllabus sweep. The marked script names the repeating losses, and the block targets those specifically with a stated end point. Narrow targets are the only ones a parent can check progress against.

  4. 04

Run marked-script cycles over live video

One timed response produced between sessions, marked against the criteria, annotated and dated. Scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the Dubai school day, mandatory subject lessons and activities, with no journey for anyone to make.

  5. 05

Review the record, then stop or re-aim

After six weeks, read the dated scripts in order. If the target errors have gone, the block is finished. If they have not, the plan changes or the tutor does. Open-ended monthly billing with no record is the thing to avoid.

Paper 1 at 50% Standard Level and 40% Higher Level, Paper 2 at 25% and 20%, Higher Level Paper 3 at 20%, the Internal Assessment at 25% and 20%. A plan that ignores Paper 1 is ignoring most of the grade.

The option is confirmed before anything is bought

Paper 2 is entirely option content, and Dubai's mobile school population means students do change options mid-programme. Preparing the wrong one is a complete loss, so we ask the question first rather than assuming.

A firm line on the Internal Assessment

The tutor explains criteria, questions the design and annotates the student's own draft. No section is written, no prose rewritten, no analysis produced. Submitting work that is not the student's own is malpractice and the penalty falls on them.

Blocks have an end point

Each block names two or three target errors and a date to check them. When the targets are met, the block finishes. Tutoring that runs indefinitely without a record is the commonest way families overspend in this market.

Delivery is unambiguous

One-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with scripts annotated on a shared screen. IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India, and nothing here implies otherwise.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How will I know whether Psychology tutoring is actually working?+

By reading dated marked scripts in order. Ask for a timed response between every pair of sessions, marked against the published criteria and annotated specifically, plus the same study written from memory at the start of a term and six weeks later. Those documents show whether command-term handling and study detail are improving. A parent with no Psychology background can read them. Claims about percentage improvement across other students are not evidence, because they almost never come with a sample size, a date and a method.

Which Psychology paper carries the most marks?+

Paper 1, by a wide margin. It covers the biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches and includes an extended response, and it carries 50% of the Standard Level grade and 40% at Higher Level. Paper 2 on the school's chosen option carries 25% and 20%, the Higher Level research methodology paper 20%, and the Internal Assessment 25% and 20%. Confirm current weightings with your school's Diploma Programme coordinator, since subject guides are revised periodically and older pages online quote previous structures.

Why does my child know the content but score in the middle bands?+

Usually command terms. Psychology short-answer questions use a tight set of terms with defined demands, and a knowledgeable student who writes everything they know collects the marks for one term and none for the others. The second usual cause is studies held as labels: a researcher's name and a one-line conclusion is not usable evidence, because examiners credit specificity about participants, manipulation and findings. The third is evaluation that lists strengths and limitations without saying what the limitation does to the conclusion.

What does the Psychology Internal Assessment involve?+

A replication of a simple published experimental study, reported formally and evaluated, marked against criteria covering the introduction, exploration of method, analysis and evaluation. The commonest structural failure is an introduction about the topic in general rather than a justification of the replication with a hypothesis the design can actually test. Get the current criteria and their mark allocations from the school's teacher rather than from an aggregator, because the subject guide is periodically updated and older versions still circulate online.

Can a tutor mark my child's Psychology IA draft?+

Yes, by criterion, on the student's own writing. A tutor can explain what each criterion requires and how many marks it carries, question whether the design genuinely replicates the original study, ask what justifies the statistical choice, check that ethical considerations are specific rather than ceremonial, and annotate a draft the student wrote. A tutor cannot write any section, rewrite prose, produce the analysis or supply text. Submitting work that is not the student's own is malpractice under IB rules, and the consequence lands on the candidate.

Does anyone come to our villa in Dubai for Psychology lessons?+

No. IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE, and in-home tutoring is a service we provide only in India. Psychology support for Dubai families runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. For this subject the format helps the method: marked scripts and Internal Assessment drafts are annotated on a shared screen and stay in order, so a six-week comparison takes two clicks rather than a search through a pile of paper somewhere in the house.

How many studies does my child need to memorise for Psychology?+

Fewer than they think, in far more detail than they currently hold. A usable study can be written from memory with four elements: who the participants were and in what context, what was manipulated or measured, what was found with some sense of direction or magnitude, and what the design limits about the conclusion. A small set known to that depth can be used in short answers, extended responses and evaluations. A long list of names and slogans can be used nowhere, which is why quantity feels productive and scores poorly.

What is the Higher Level Psychology Paper 3 actually testing?+

Research methodology, applied to an unseen stimulus describing a piece of research. Candidates identify and discuss methodological features, consider ethical issues and evaluate what can legitimately be concluded. The characteristic failure is writing about the content of the stimulus rather than its methodology: a student reads a study about memory and writes about memory. Recognising that distinction takes practice across several stimuli, and because the questions are short and quick to mark, this paper generates evidence of progress faster than any other component.

My child's mock Psychology result was much lower than expected. What now?+

Start from the scripts, not the syllabus. A marked mock paper shows which question types lost proportionally most, whether the loss was in content or structure, and whether the same error repeats across answers. Usually two or three repeating errors account for most of the gap, and a bounded block of four to six sessions aimed at exactly those, ending in a re-test under the same conditions, is the proportionate response. General revision across everything is the expensive and least effective option at that point.

Does the Psychology option my child's Dubai school teaches really matter?+

Entirely, because Paper 2 is option content and nothing else. Abnormal, developmental, health and psychology of human relationships are substantially different bodies of material, so preparing the wrong one is a total loss rather than a partial one. This is a real risk in a city with high school mobility, where a student may choose Psychology at one school and sit it at another that selected a different option. Confirm it with the teacher in writing before buying any tutoring at all.

Does a high KHDA inspection band mean my child does not need a Psychology tutor?+

Not reliably. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools on a six-band scale and reports on provision across teaching, leadership, inclusion and outcomes, which is useful information about a school and weak information about one minority subject in one year. Diploma Programme Psychology quality rests on one or two teachers, and a staffing change can alter it without moving the school's band. Read the subject-level detail in the report, and base a tutoring decision on a marked script rather than on a headline rating.

How does a tutor track Psychology progress without inventing statistics?+

By keeping documents rather than producing numbers. Dated marked responses in order, a study written from memory at two points in a term, Internal Assessment drafts annotated by criterion letter, and a full timed paper before and after a block. Each of those is specific to one student and inspectable by a parent. Aggregate claims such as satisfaction percentages or average score improvements are not usable evidence unless the sample size, date and method are published alongside them, which in this market they almost never are.

When in the two years is Psychology support best bought in Dubai?+

Early enough to have a baseline, and anchored to the mock window. A family starting in October of DP1 has a marked script to work from, a mid-point check, and a mock between late November and February to measure against. A family starting in March of DP2 has a deadline and no measurement. Where money is limited, the highest-value purchases are a short command-term block in DP1, an Internal Assessment draft review block, and a post-mock repair block aimed at two or three named errors.

Do Psychology tutors in Dubai need a MoHRE permit to teach privately?+

Yes. Any individual providing private tuition in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and states that tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

What if no Psychology specialist is free for our option and week?+

We say so and name the alternative. Option-specific Paper 2 expertise narrows the pool, and demand concentrates sharply around Dubai's mock window and the run-up to the May session. The options are a start date in the future, a tutor who covers the approaches and methodology but not that option for interim work, or a recommendation to wait until demand eases. Families should know which of those they are being offered; a provider that substitutes quietly is the failure mode worth avoiding in this market.

Send one marked script and start the record

The useful first step is a returned Psychology script with the teacher's marks on it, plus confirmation from the school of which option is being taught. A free trial session goes through that script, names the two or three errors that are repeating, and sets a date to check them. From there every session produces one dated, marked, annotated response, so after six weeks you can read the record yourself rather than take anyone's word for it. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are not part of our UAE service.
