IB Physics Tutor in Tilal Al Ghaf

Families looking for an IB physics tutor in Tilal Al Ghaf are often really deciding between options: Higher or Standard Level, physics or another science, and in this predominantly British-curriculum part of Dubailand sometimes the Diploma against A Level. This page compares those choices before it talks about teaching. IB Gram teaches one-to-one, live over video, at Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Tilal Al Ghaf

Before the teaching, three comparisons

A lot of physics tutoring in Dubai is bought to solve a problem that is actually a choice. A student struggling with Higher Level physics may be in the wrong level. A student who dislikes physics and keeps it because it sounds serious may be carrying a subject nothing they want to study requires. And in this part of Dubailand, where provision is predominantly British curriculum, some families are weighing the Diploma against A Level and assuming the two treat physics similarly, which they do not.

So this page makes three comparisons before it discusses teaching. Higher against Standard Level physics, on the dimensions that actually differ rather than on difficulty in the abstract. IB Physics against A Level Physics for a UAE student, including what universities expect and how the two are structured. And physics against chemistry and biology, for a family deciding which science to keep when something has to go. A tutor who will not have those conversations is selling hours rather than advice.

Tilal Al Ghaf is a reasonable place to raise the A Level comparison, because it is a live question here. The community has a British-curriculum school inside its boundary and DAMAC Hills and Dubai Sports City have their own provision next door, while IB Diploma schools sit further out towards Al Barsha South and Dubai Hills Estate. Families in this belt frequently have genuine access to both routes, which means the choice is real rather than theoretical and deserves to be made on information.

The practical advantage of the community is the clock. Because the school run is short and pupils are often home before four, an early weekday session is realistic. Physics benefits from that more than most subjects, because the thing a physics student most needs is sustained concentration for explanation writing, and explanation writing at seven in the evening after a full day produces answers that describe rather than reason.

One component deserves early mention because it is the same whichever level a student takes. The scientific investigation carries 20% of the physics grade and is marked out of 24 across four criteria. Its mark is largely determined at the design stage, before any data exists, by whether the chosen variable produces a change the school's apparatus can actually measure. That makes it the earliest real deadline in the subject and the place a tutor can most legitimately help.

IB Gram delivers physics tuition to Tilal Al Ghaf as live one-to-one lessons over video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Practical work happens in your child's school laboratory and no tutor substitutes for that in any format, which this page addresses directly rather than glossing over.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics reaches a Tilal Al Ghaf student by different routes, and the comparison that matters differs with each. These are the four.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE physics, the usual local route

Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1 students arrive with solid content coverage and a short-answer habit. The gap at Diploma level is extended explanation: IGCSE rewards a correct statement while the Diploma rewards a chain of reasoning. Whether the student took separate sciences rather than a combined award matters more than their grade.

Because provision in and around Tilal Al Ghaf is predominantly British curriculum, this is how most local students reach either the Diploma or A Level. The decision between those two routes is therefore made at sixteen by families who have usually only experienced one of them.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme sciences

Four criteria per subject, each out of eight, including inquiring and designing and processing and evaluating. Students from this route arrive unusually comfortable with investigation design and unusually light on algebraic execution, which is the reverse of the IGCSE profile and needs a different first six sessions.

IB continuum schools sit further out from Tilal Al Ghaf, towards Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills Estate and the Sustainable City. A student arriving in Diploma physics from that route will find the investigation familiar and the mathematics less so.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Two written papers at each level plus the scientific investigation at 20%. Higher Level extends the treatment of most topics rather than appending separate ones, so it cannot be prepared by learning the Standard Level course and adding material at the end. Confirm current weightings with your child's teacher.

UAE schools overwhelmingly enter candidates for the May session. No IB exam or results dates appear on this page, because ibo.org blocks automated verification and publishing an unverified date that a parent acts on is worse than publishing none. Confirm every one with the school's Diploma coordinator.

ALevelAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level Physics, the alternative route

Available at several schools in this belt. It is narrower and deeper: three or four subjects instead of six, no compulsory core components, and a practical endorsement assessed separately from the written papers rather than a single marked investigation. The mathematical demand is comparable and distributed differently.

For a UAE university application, the Ministry of Education's British-track equivalency requires one A Level at no less than grade E or two AS Levels at the same grade, alongside five GCSE or IGCSE subjects at E or grade 3 excluding Arabic and Islamic education. The IB track figures should be read on the Ministry's own channel.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the physics topics Tilal Al Ghaf families ask about, with the level at which each becomes demanding. The Higher Level column is the honest answer to whether the extension is manageable.

Mechanics and motion

HL and SL

Kinematics, forces, momentum and energy. Accessible at both levels and the place where the explanation habit is formed: students who reason from the resultant force score, while those who describe the velocity graph do not. Momentum questions reward stating conservation before calculating.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

The reliable weak point in every cohort because circuit reasoning holds current, potential difference and resistance together rather than recalling one formula. Internal resistance at Higher Level is where capable students separate from very capable ones.

Fields

HL and SL, substantially extended at HL

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields and the analogies between them. The Higher Level treatment of potential and potential energy is the single most common reason a strong student requests help, because the sign conventions are unforgiving and the concepts abstract.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL, extended at HL

Wave behaviour, superposition, standing waves and simple harmonic motion. Phase relationships carry the marks, and the fix is sketching displacement against time before attempting a verbal answer. Diffraction questions want the condition named, not the pattern described.

Thermal physics

HL and SL

Internal energy, specific heat capacity, latent heat and the ideal gas treatment. Marks are lost by conflating heat and temperature in written answers, which is a vocabulary problem with a mark consequence rather than a conceptual gap.

Nuclear and quantum physics

HL and SL, extended at HL

Decay, binding energy, mass defect and the photoelectric effect. Binding-energy calculations compound errors across several steps, so one early rounding decision survives to the final answer. The photoelectric effect rewards a precise statement of the threshold condition.

Energy production

HL and SL

Sources, efficiency and the physics of generation and transfer. Often under-revised because it feels descriptive, and a reliable source of accessible marks for a student who learns the efficiency arguments properly rather than in general terms.

Uncertainty and error analysis

HL and SL, examined and assessed internally

Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, propagation through calculations and error bars on graphs. Examined in the papers and central to the investigation, so time spent here is paid for twice. Almost always under-taught in both systems.

Graph work and data analysis

HL and SL

Linearising relationships, gradients with physical meaning, intercepts and best-fit judgement. Students plot competently and then fail to state what the gradient physically represents, which is where the marks sit, and it transfers directly into the investigation.

Explanation and command terms

HL and SL, across every topic

'State', 'describe', 'explain', 'deduce' and 'discuss' carry different mark expectations. Teaching a student to answer the verb recovers marks in every topic simultaneously, which makes it the highest-yield single intervention available in the subject.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL, 20% of the grade

An individual investigation marked out of 24 across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The decisive factor is whether the chosen variable produces a change the school's apparatus can measure precisely enough to show the effect.

Mathematical technique for physics

HL and SL

Rearranging, indices, standard form, trigonometry for resolving vectors and, at Higher Level, the beginnings of calculus reasoning. A physics problem is frequently a mathematics problem in disguise, which is why a diagnostic must test the algebra separately.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Tilal Al Ghaf families run IB physics with us, all live one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time. Physics benefits from the early slot this community allows more than most subjects do.

A decision session before any block

Where the real question is level or subject choice rather than teaching, we would rather spend one session on that than sell a term of the wrong thing. The session works real questions at both levels, looks at what the intended degree route actually requires, and produces a written view that may be that your child should move level.

  • Questions worked at both Higher and Standard Level
  • University requirements checked on the institutions' own pages
  • A written view, including 'move level' where that is the answer
  • No obligation to book anything afterwards

Weekly one-to-one, early slot

One tutor, one protected slot, tracking the school's topic order. The early start this community allows matters here: explanation writing is concentration work, and a student at four-thirty reasons where the same student at seven describes. Physics is also cumulative in its mathematics even where its topics are not.

  • Four-thirty starts are realistic in this community
  • Explanation answers marked and rewritten in the session
  • Problem set between sessions, reviewed in the next
  • Written note the same evening after each lesson

Investigation coaching across a term

The investigation is 20% of the grade and its mark is largely set before data collection. Coaching runs across a term: design measurability first, then uncertainty treatment, then structured feedback on the student's own drafts against the four criteria. The student designs, measures and writes every part of it.

  • Design tested against school apparatus before any data
  • Uncertainty propagation taught properly, once
  • Feedback against the four criteria by mark allocation
  • Nothing written by the tutor at any stage

Holiday blocks for the mathematics underneath

Four or five sessions a week in a Dubai school break, aimed at the algebra, indices, standard form and vector resolution that physics assumes. Where a physics problem is really a mathematics problem, no amount of physics teaching fixes it, and a holiday block is the only time fluency can be rebuilt.

  • Four to five sessions a week in school breaks
  • Targets manipulation rather than physics content
  • Post-Iftar scheduling available in Ramadan
  • Shorter sessions in preference to skipped weeks

01

Higher against Standard Level physics, compared properly

The usual framing is that Higher Level is harder, which is true and not useful. What a family needs is the shape of the difference, because it determines whether a struggling student should be moved and how many tutoring hours the level realistically demands.

The key structural fact is that Higher Level physics extends the treatment of most topics rather than adding a separate block at the end. Fields, nuclear physics, waves and electricity all go deeper rather than appearing only at Higher Level. That has a direct consequence families should know before choosing: you cannot prepare for Higher Level by learning the Standard Level course and bolting the extension on afterwards, because the extension is woven through. A Higher Level student who is behind therefore needs roughly half again the total hours that the same gap would need at Standard Level.

The second difference is mathematical. Higher Level physics assumes confident rearranging, indices, standard form, vector resolution and the beginnings of calculus reasoning, and it assumes them at speed. A student taking Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level alongside Higher Level physics is carrying a mismatch that shows up in physics marks rather than in mathematics marks, and it is one of the commonest hidden causes of physics underperformance in Dubai schools.

The third is the investigation, which is the same task at both levels and judged against the same four criteria. That is worth knowing, because it means the 20% component is equally reachable for a Standard Level student. A student who moves from Higher to Standard Level does not lose access to any part of the assessment; they lose content depth and one layer of mathematical demand. For a student whose degree route does not require Higher Level physics, that trade is often straightforwardly correct.

IB Physics or A Level Physics, for a student in this belt

This comparison is live in Tilal Al Ghaf in a way it is not everywhere, because local provision is predominantly British curriculum while IB Diploma schools sit a short drive away. Dubai's 2024-25 figures put the UK curriculum at 37% of private enrolment and the International Baccalaureate at 7%, so a family here is choosing between a well-supplied local option and a less common one that requires a longer journey.

The honest comparison is about shape rather than quality. A Level Physics is narrower and deeper: three or four subjects total, no compulsory core components, and physics content explored further than the Diploma goes. Practical work is assessed through a separate practical endorsement rather than a single marked investigation, which means laboratory skills are examined across many activities instead of one piece of coursework. The written papers reward depth within physics.

IB Physics sits inside a six-subject programme with the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS alongside it. The physics goes less far than A Level in places and the student carries a broader load, including a second language and the core components. The single marked investigation carries 20% of the physics grade, which concentrates risk and reward into one piece of work in a way the practical endorsement does not.

Which suits a student depends on two things that have nothing to do with physics. Whether they are better served by breadth with compulsory writing components or by depth with fewer subjects. And what the universities they are considering actually ask for, which is published by each institution and varies by course and year, so it should be read on the course pages rather than inferred. Both qualifications are widely recognised; the mistake is choosing on reputation rather than on fit and published requirements.

Physics, chemistry or biology: which science to keep

Diploma students sometimes have to drop a science, change a level, or decide which of three to take at Higher Level, and the decision is frequently made on which teacher they like. It is worth making on two better criteria: what the intended degree requires, and which assessment profile the student actually suits.

On requirements, the pattern is reasonably stable and should still be verified on each university's own course pages, because it varies by institution and by year. Engineering and physics routes commonly expect Higher Level physics with Analysis and Approaches. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary routes commonly expect Higher Level chemistry, often with biology. Life sciences generally expect biology, frequently with chemistry. A student keeping physics for a medical route and dropping chemistry has usually made the wrong trade.

On assessment profile, the three sciences reward different things despite sharing the same investigation structure. Physics rewards reasoning from principles and punishes description; it is the least content-heavy and the most conceptually demanding of the three. Chemistry is sequential and quantitative, so it punishes a weak foundation more than the others and rewards disciplined calculation. Biology is content-heavy and rewards precise terminology and command-term discipline, with the lowest mathematical demand of the three.

A student who reasons well and dislikes memorising belongs in physics. A student who is organised and precise with numbers belongs in chemistry. A student with a strong memory and good written discipline belongs in biology. None of that outranks the degree requirement, but where the requirement leaves a choice, matching the profile is a better basis than preference for a teacher, and it is the conversation a tutor should be willing to have even when it means a smaller booking.

04

The investigation, and how physics differs from the other sciences

  • Four criteria, six marks each, twenty-four in total, 20% of the grade
  • The physics trap is an effect smaller than the instrument's uncertainty
  • Uncertainty propagation is examined in the papers as well
  • Conclusion and evaluation carry twelve of the twenty-four marks
  • Those two can still be improved after the data exists

All three Diploma sciences use the same investigation structure: an individual scientific investigation marked out of 24 across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, each carrying six marks, scaled to 20% of the subject grade. Confirm the current criteria with your child's teacher, since the IB revises its guides. What differs is where each subject's investigation tends to fail, and physics has its own characteristic trap.

In physics the trap is measurability against uncertainty. A student chooses a relationship that is genuinely interesting and then finds the effect is smaller than the uncertainty of the instrument available — a temperature change inside the resolution of a school thermometer, a time interval too short to measure by hand, a mass difference below the balance's precision. The data then shows noise rather than a relationship, and no amount of careful writing recovers it. That is why the design conversation, held before any apparatus is booked, is the single most valuable hour a physics tutor spends.

The second physics-specific issue is that uncertainty propagation is both examined in the written papers and central to the investigation, so it is paid for twice. Most students arrive never having been taught it systematically, because it tends to be covered alongside practicals rather than as a topic in its own right. Two or three sessions on absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, propagation through a calculation, and error bars with a stated effect on the conclusion will earn marks in both places.

The criteria students neglect are conclusion and evaluation, which together carry twelve of the twenty-four marks and are the cheapest to improve because they reward thinking rather than apparatus. A conclusion must answer the stated research question and be justified by the data, and an evaluation must identify specific methodological weaknesses and propose realistic improvements rather than mentioning human error. Both can be improved after the data exists, which makes them the right target for a student who is already late.

05

Two kinds of struggling physics student

Physics underperformance in Dubai has two standard profiles and they look identical on a school report. Telling them apart is the first thing a diagnostic should do, because they need opposite responses and treating the wrong one wastes a term.

The first profile calculates confidently and explains poorly. These students handle numerical questions and lose marks on extended response, which carries the larger share of the grade. The cause is usually conceptual rather than linguistic: they can use an equation without understanding the relationship it expresses, so when a question asks why rather than how much they have nothing to reason from. Teaching command terms helps immediately, but the underlying repair is conceptual and takes a term.

The second profile reasons well and calculates badly. These students write good qualitative answers and lose marks whenever a question requires rearranging, unit handling or multi-step arithmetic. The cause is mathematical rather than physical, and no amount of physics teaching fixes it, because the physics was never the problem. These students need a short mathematics block, which is both cheaper and faster than the physics tutoring they were about to buy.

The diagnostic that separates them is simple and almost never done: work calculation questions and explanation questions separately and record the two scores apart rather than producing a single mark. A school report cannot do this, because it reports one grade. A marked mock can, if someone bothers to split it. Doing that in the first session is why our diagnostic looks different from a normal first lesson, and it regularly changes what the family buys.

Practical physics when the tutor is on a screen

A straight answer rather than reassurance. Practical work in IB Physics happens at school. Your child's school has the apparatus, runs the laboratory sessions and supervises the investigation. No tutor in any delivery format runs experiments for a student, and an in-home tutor arriving at a Tilal Al Ghaf villa with a trolley and a light gate is not what in-home tutoring looks like either.

What a tutor genuinely contributes divides into three things, all of which work on a shared screen. Design: whether the proposed variable can be measured well enough, what must be controlled, how many values are needed and over what range, and whether a trial should be run before committing. Uncertainty and data treatment: propagating uncertainty, plotting with error bars, deciding what a gradient means physically. And the writing: reading the student's own draft and saying what is not working and why.

On the middle one, a screen is actually better than a dining table. Both parties see the same spreadsheet, the same graph and the same error bars, and a change made to a cell is visible to both immediately. Anyone who has tried to discuss a data set over someone's shoulder on paper will recognise why.

Where a screen genuinely loses something is apparatus intuition: what a reading looks like when it has drifted, how a light gate actually behaves, why a trial failed. The school provides that and we will not pretend to substitute for it. What a tutor can do is send a student into a laboratory session with a plan, which matters more than it sounds given how many students arrive at a practical with none and spend the session following instructions.

07

What physics tutoring costs, and which block to buy

Price the investigation block rather than the hour, because that is the unit physics divides into. Six sessions at Tutopiya's advertised AED 33 to AED 52 an hour is AED 198 to AED 312; at EdFlik's AED 45 to AED 65 it is AED 270 to AED 390; at Unitors' published AED 200 for IB, or AED 150 for IGCSE, it is AED 1,200; at TutorChase's AED 270 it is AED 1,620; at BartyED's AED 650 it is AED 3,900. Every one of those rates was read in October 2026 from the provider's own published figures. Bestimate's Dubai table frames the same market twice over, putting in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350 and IB or IGCSE specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, then converting one weekly hour into monthly estimates of AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Measured against a component worth a fifth of the grade, the gap between those block prices is the decision a family in this community is really making.

In physics the best value is rarely open-ended weekly tutoring, because the subject divides cleanly into blocks with different returns. A decision session on level or subject choice is one hour and can save a family two years of the wrong course. An investigation coaching block of six to eight sessions addresses a fifth of the grade at the point the mark is still determinable. A command-term block of four to six sessions recovers marks in every topic simultaneously. A mathematics block of four to six sessions fixes the physics problem that was never a physics problem.

Content teaching is the least efficient per hour, not because it fails but because it addresses one topic at a time and there are many. That makes it the right purchase when the diagnostic says content is genuinely thin, and the wrong default when nobody has checked. A family buying weekly physics support without a split diagnostic between calculation and explanation is buying attention rather than a plan.

IB Gram publishes no hourly rate on this page, because the right figure depends on level, stage and which block the evidence calls for. The market band lets you judge any quote including ours, and the first lesson is free. In it, ask the tutor to name the four investigation criteria with their marks and to explain the difference between a 'describe' and an 'explain' question. A genuine physics specialist answers both immediately.

Honesty, permits and the limits we work to

  • The student designs, measures and writes every part of the investigation
  • Design viability and uncertainty teaching are the legitimate high-value help
  • We distribute no IB papers, mark schemes or boundary tables
  • No examiner claims we cannot evidence, and no promises about results
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years

The investigation is individual assessed work and there are providers in this region selling completed internal assessments at published prices. Submitting one is academic misconduct and the consequence falls on the student rather than the seller. Because families in Dubai encounter such providers through the same search results as legitimate ones, the boundary belongs on the page, and we state it to the student rather than only to the parent.

A tutor may teach any physics the investigation requires, test whether a design is measurable, explain each criterion and its descriptors, teach uncertainty treatment, and read the student's own draft and say what is not working. A tutor may not write any part of it, supply the data, choose the research question outright, or edit a draft into something the student did not produce. Where a draft needs changing, the tutor names the problem and the student rewrites. That is slower and it is the only version that is both lawful and effective, because conclusion and evaluation reward thinking the student actually did.

A physics-specific version of the same boundary applies to paper. Any provider offering a Tilal Al Ghaf family a shared folder of IB physics papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade-boundary tables is distributing material that belongs to the IB, and reproducing or distributing it is copyright infringement whoever assembled the folder. Our tutors work from legitimately obtained material and from the student's own data, and the more useful transfer is teaching a sixteen-year-old to read the four investigation criteria unaided, since the descriptors are the document the mark is actually awarded against. The companion claim to refuse is the examiner badge: we do not describe tutors as IB examiners where current status cannot be evidenced, and examiner experience gives no access to marking, to boundaries, or to unseen paper content in any case.

On regulation: private tutoring in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years to teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Those operating without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so distrust quoted amounts, and ask any tutor to show the permit rather than describe it. IB Gram holds no approval or accreditation from the IB, KHDA, ADEK or the Ministry of Education.

Where we tutor

Tilal Al Ghaf and the communities around it

These communities share schools and roads with Tilal Al Ghaf, and between them they offer both the Diploma and A Level within a reasonable drive. That is what makes the route comparison a real decision here.

Tilal Al Ghaf

Villas and townhouses around Lagoon Al Ghaf with a British-curriculum school inside the community. Pupils are often home before four, which allows an early session — valuable in a subject where explanation writing needs concentration rather than repetition.

DAMAC Hills

Immediate neighbour with its own British-curriculum provision, so students from both communities frequently reach sixteen having only experienced one of the two sixth-form routes.

Dubai Sports City

Schools inside the community, but training commitments consume the early evening the short commute creates. Physics suits holiday blocks here, since explanation work is poorly served by a tired late slot.

Motor City

A school inside the community and a predominantly British-curriculum cohort. Diploma physics students from this direction came through Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1 and arrive strong on content and light on extended explanation.

Al Barsha South

Where several IB Diploma schools sit, within a single drive outside peak hours. Students who travel there daily have a longer commute and a later realistic session start than those schooled locally.

Dubai Hills Estate

IB continuum provision within reach, so students from this direction arrive in Diploma physics from the Middle Years Programme, comfortable with investigation design and lighter on algebraic execution.

Mudon

Schooling spread across the Dubailand periphery with shared transport, so arrival times vary day to day. A fixed online slot absorbs that variation; a tutor waiting at a gate does not.

Remraam

Apartment-led, with pupils travelling to Dubailand schools. Students here are often the only candidate in their year taking Higher Level physics, which makes informal advice about the course scarce.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Settle the choice before buying teaching

If the real question is Higher against Standard Level, physics against another science, or the Diploma against A Level, we spend one session on that rather than selling a term of the wrong course. The session works questions at both levels and checks what the intended degree route actually publishes as a requirement.

  2. 02

    Split the diagnostic

Calculation questions and explanation questions worked separately, with two scores recorded rather than one. A school report cannot distinguish the student who calculates well and explains poorly from the one who does the reverse, and those two need opposite responses. This regularly changes what a family buys.

  3. 03

A free first lesson with the named tutor

One full lesson, no charge, with the person who would continue. Ask them to name the four investigation criteria and their marks, and to explain how a 'describe' question differs from an 'explain' question. A genuine specialist answers both immediately; much of this market cannot.

  4. 04

Use the early slot for explanation work

Explanation writing is concentration work rather than repetition, and a student who reasons at four-thirty describes at seven. Tilal Al Ghaf's short school run makes the earlier slot realistic, and we schedule explanation and paper work into it rather than defaulting to a late hour.

  5. 05

Answers marked and rewritten in the session

Physics improves when a student writes an explanation, has it marked against the criteria, sees why it scored what it scored and rewrites it there and then. A session where the tutor explains and the student listens does not produce that, however clear the explanation was.

  6. 06

Review at each mock and investigation stage

Mocks, marked papers and investigation drafts are the checkpoints where the plan is tested rather than renewed by habit. If the evidence says the level is wrong we say so and give you the marked paper to take to the school. If the subject is secure we say that and end the block.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The choice discussed before the hours are sold

Level, subject and route are questions a physics tutor should be willing to answer honestly, including when the answer is that your child should move down a level or drop the subject. We would rather spend one session on that than sell a term of tutoring aimed at keeping a course nothing requires.

A diagnostic that splits calculation from explanation

Two students with identical reports can need opposite help: one a conceptual repair across a term, the other a short mathematics block. A single grade cannot distinguish them and a split diagnostic can, which is why ours records two scores rather than one.

The investigation treated as 20% of the grade

Four criteria, six marks each, with the physics-specific trap being an effect smaller than the instrument's uncertainty. We run the measurability conversation before any apparatus is booked, which is the most valuable hour available on the component and the one almost nobody buys.

Honest about what a screen cannot do

Practical work and apparatus intuition happen at school and no tutor substitutes for them in any format. We say so, and then explain why shared-spreadsheet uncertainty work is actually better on a screen than across a dining table.

Blocks with named targets rather than open-ended hours

A decision session, a split diagnostic, an investigation block, a command-term block, a mathematics block, an uncertainty block. Each has a length and a target, which is the opposite of weekly support that continues indefinitely and addresses whatever came up.

Clear about the limits

No part of an investigation written by a tutor. No home visits in the UAE. No distribution of IB papers or mark schemes. No examiner claims we cannot evidence. No promises about results. No approval or accreditation from the IB, KHDA, ADEK or the Ministry of Education.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Tilal Al Ghaf: your questions answered

Should my child move from Higher to Standard Level physics?+

Possibly, and two things decide it. First, whether any university course they are considering requires Higher Level physics, which is published on each institution's own course pages and varies by course and year. Second, whether the mathematics is there: Higher Level assumes confident rearranging, vectors and early calculus reasoning at speed. A student moving down loses content depth and one layer of mathematical demand, and loses no part of the assessment, because the investigation is the same task judged against the same four criteria at both levels.

How does IB Physics compare with A Level Physics for a Dubai student?+

In shape rather than quality. A Level is narrower and deeper: three or four subjects, no compulsory core components, physics explored further, and practical skills assessed through a separate endorsement across many activities. IB Physics sits inside a six-subject programme with the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS, and concentrates practical assessment into one marked investigation worth 20% of the grade. Both are widely recognised; read the published requirements of the specific universities rather than choosing on reputation.

Which science should my child keep if one has to go?+

Start with what the intended degree requires, verified on each university's own course pages. Engineering and physics routes commonly expect Higher Level physics; medicine, dentistry and pharmacy commonly expect Higher Level chemistry. Where the requirement leaves a choice, match the assessment profile: physics rewards reasoning from principles and has the highest mathematical demand, chemistry is sequential and quantitative, and biology is content-heavy with the lowest mathematical demand and the greatest reward for precise terminology.

Will a physics tutor visit our home in Tilal Al Ghaf?+

No. All UAE tuition is delivered live and one-to-one over video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are a service we run only in India. Practical physics happens in your child's school laboratory in either case, so no tutor in any format substitutes for that. What a screen does better than a dining table is shared data work: both parties see the same spreadsheet, graph and error bars, and a change to a cell is immediately visible to both.

Why does my child calculate well and still score badly in physics?+

Because extended-response questions carry the larger share of the grade and they are marked on reasoning rather than on calculation. A student who can use an equation without understanding the relationship it expresses has nothing to reason from when a question asks why rather than how much. Teaching command terms helps immediately; the underlying conceptual repair takes a term. The opposite profile also exists — reasons well, calculates badly — and those two students need opposite help despite identical reports.

How is the physics investigation marked and where does it fail?+

Out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each — research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation — scaled to 20% of the grade. Confirm the current allocations with your child's teacher. The physics-specific failure is measurability: a student chooses a relationship where the effect is smaller than the uncertainty of the available instrument, so the data shows noise rather than a relationship. That is decided before any apparatus is booked, which is why the design conversation is the most valuable hour on this component.

Is uncertainty work worth paying a tutor for?+

Yes, and it is among the best value in the subject because it is paid for twice. Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, propagation through a calculation, and error bars with a stated effect on the conclusion all appear in the data section of the written papers and are central to the investigation. Two or three sessions covers it. Most students arrive never having been taught it systematically, because it tends to be covered alongside practicals rather than as a topic in its own right.

Does the maths course my child takes affect their physics marks?+

Substantially, and it is one of the commonest hidden causes of physics underperformance in Dubai schools. Higher Level physics assumes confident rearranging, indices, standard form, vector resolution and early calculus reasoning, at speed. A student taking Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level alongside Higher Level physics is carrying a mismatch that shows up in physics marks rather than mathematics marks, and it responds to a short mathematics block rather than to more physics teaching.

How many hours does Higher Level physics need compared with Standard?+

Roughly half again, and the reason is structural rather than a matter of difficulty. Higher Level extends the treatment of most topics rather than adding a separate block at the end, so the extension is woven through the whole syllabus and cannot be learned afterwards. A Higher Level student who is behind needs the same hours the Standard Level gap would need plus about fifty per cent, and the sooner that is recognised the cheaper it is to supply.

Which rate band should we expect for Higher Level physics?+

Market figures read in October 2026 run from roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour for budget and student tutors, AED 150 to AED 300 for qualified subject tutors online, and AED 200 to AED 450 or above for IB specialists, with in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 500 including travel. Monthly at one weekly session that is roughly AED 240 to AED 600, AED 600 to AED 1,200, or AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above. Those are published market numbers, not our prices, and the first lesson is free.

Which physics block gives the best return?+

A one-hour decision session first if level or subject choice is genuinely in question, because it can save two years of the wrong course. Then a split diagnostic to establish which struggling profile your child fits. After that: investigation coaching for six to eight sessions if the component is still determinable, a command-term block of four to six if calculation is sound and marks are low, or a mathematics block of four to six if the physics was never the problem. Content teaching is the least efficient per hour and the most common default.

Can my child reach a good investigation mark if they have already collected the data?+

Partly, and it is worth knowing which part. Research design and data analysis are largely fixed once the data exists, but conclusion and evaluation together carry twelve of the twenty-four marks and can still be improved, because they reward thinking rather than apparatus. A conclusion must answer the stated research question and be justified by the data; an evaluation must identify specific methodological weaknesses and propose realistic improvements rather than mentioning human error. That is the right target for a student who is already late.

Why is an early session better for physics specifically?+

Because explanation writing is concentration work rather than repetition. A student who reasons well at four-thirty frequently describes rather than explains at seven, after a school day and other homework, and a session spent producing weak answers teaches weak habits. Tilal Al Ghaf has a school inside the community and neighbouring communities have their own provision, so pupils are often home before four and the early slot is genuinely available here in a way it is not across most of this belt.

Can a tutor choose my child's investigation topic?+

No. A tutor can test whether a proposed design is measurable with the apparatus available, which is the most valuable contribution on this component, and can explain what each criterion rewards. A tutor cannot choose the research question outright, supply the data or write any part of the document, because conclusion and evaluation together carry twelve of the twenty-four marks and reward thinking the student actually did. Where a draft is not working, the tutor names the problem and the student rewrites it.

What licensing should we check on a Tilal Al Ghaf physics tutor?+

The MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published, so be sceptical of quoted amounts. Ask to see the document rather than accepting an assurance, and ask the same of any agency placing a tutor with your family.

Settle the choice, then split the diagnostic

If there is a genuine question about level, subject or route, deal with it before buying any teaching: look up what the universities under consideration actually publish as a requirement, and have your child work questions at both levels so the decision rests on evidence. Then insist on a diagnostic that records calculation and explanation separately, because two students with identical reports can need opposite help and a single grade cannot tell them apart. If the investigation has no topic yet, that conversation comes next, since the physics trap is an effect smaller than the instrument can measure and no later writing recovers it. Tilal Al Ghaf sessions run live and one-to-one over video at Gulf Standard Time. Practical work stays at school, we make no home visits in the UAE, and we promise no grades.
