IB Home Tutor in Tilal Al Ghaf

Families searching for an IB home tutor in Tilal Al Ghaf are usually asking a subject question rather than a location one. Tilal Al Ghaf has a school inside the community, so the commute is short and the real constraint is finding someone who knows the specific course and its mark scheme. This page is built around the subjects themselves. IB Gram teaches one-to-one, live over video, at Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Tilal Al Ghaf

The subject is the variable that matters

Tilal Al Ghaf is unusual among Dubai villa communities in having a school inside its own boundary, which changes what parents here are actually asking for. In a community with no school, the first tutoring question is logistical: who can get here, and when. In Tilal Al Ghaf the school run is short, the evening starts earlier than in most of the Dubailand belt, and the question that remains is the harder one — who actually knows the course my child is taking, at the level they are taking it.

That is a subject question, and the IB makes it a sharp one. A Diploma student takes six subjects at two levels, each with its own paper structure, its own weightings, its own Internal Assessment and its own set of places where marks disappear. A tutor who offers 'IB tutoring' is offering a category, not a course. The useful question to put to anyone is narrower: which subject, at which level, and what is the Internal Assessment marked out of.

So this page is organised by what the subjects actually require. There is a table of how the assessment is structured across the main subject groups, including which Internal Assessments carry what share of the grade, because that single number should drive how a family allocates tutoring hours. There is a section on command terms, which is the one skill that recovers marks in every subject simultaneously. And there is a breakdown of the Internal Assessment criteria by subject group, which no competitor page in this market publishes at all.

The phrase 'home tutor' in the URL deserves a straight answer rather than a sidestep. In-home tuition is widely available in Dubai and market rates run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel. It works for some children. IB Gram does not offer it anywhere in the UAE — home visits are a service we run only in India — and this page makes the comparison honestly rather than pretending the option does not exist.

What online delivery buys a Tilal Al Ghaf family is the removal of the only filter on tutor selection that has nothing to do with teaching. Instead of choosing among people who will drive out past Hessa Street on a Tuesday evening, you choose among people who teach Chemistry Higher Level, or History Higher Level with your child's prescribed subject, or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level. In a programme where each of those is a distinct specialism, that trade is usually worth making.

Everything below is either sourced or marked as market context. Where a figure comes from a regulator it is named. Where it comes from a competitor's published rate card, the competitor's band is given as the market rather than as our price. Where an exam date could not be verified from the awarding body itself, this page says so rather than printing it.

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside the IB in Dubai
  • Lessons are online; IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Tilal Al Ghaf pupils reach the IB from several directions, and the subject-level work differs with the route. These are the stages, with what each leaves unprepared.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary inquiry with no external examination, ending with the Grade 5 Exhibition. The target worth working to is a baseline rather than a grade: reading fluency, number sense and written stamina, all of which the Middle Years Programme assumes from the first week of Year 7.

In Dubai, PYP schools are inspected by KHDA on the same six-band scale as every other private school and must also deliver Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies. For a Tilal Al Ghaf family that means a Year 5 timetable already carries three subjects outside the PYP framework, and Arabic is where non-Arab pupils most often need help first.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each out of eight, totalling thirty-two before conversion to a grade from one to seven. Marks accumulate from assessed tasks across the year, so a weak criterion identified in autumn remains in the final grade unless something changes. MYP5 adds the Personal Project.

The practical use of a Dubai MYP report is the criterion breakdown rather than the grade, and schools will supply it if asked. Families around Tilal Al Ghaf who treat the report as a summary rather than a scorecard usually discover the problem in MYP5, when the Personal Project is competing for the same evenings.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across three Higher and three Standard Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS. Each subject has its own paper structure and its own Internal Assessment weighting, and those weightings vary considerably, which is why tutoring hours should follow the assessment rather than the anxiety.

UAE schools overwhelmingly enter candidates for the May session. No IB exam or results dates appear on this page: ibo.org blocks automated verification, and an unverified date that a parent acts on is worse than no date. Confirm every one with your school's Diploma coordinator.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

At least two Diploma courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. The Diploma courses inside it are assessed identically to the full Diploma, Internal Assessment included, so subject tutoring is the same work at the same standard.

Offered at a small number of UAE schools. The question families usually need settled is what the Ministry of Education recognises for a UAE university application, and the IB figures should be read on the Ministry's own channel rather than taken from any tutoring page, this one included.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IB subjects Tilal Al Ghaf families ask for most, with what the assessment actually rewards and where the marks go. A tutor who cannot name the components for a subject is not a specialist in it.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebra, calculus and proof, with complex numbers at Higher Level and a non-calculator Paper 1. The exploration carries a fifth of the grade at both levels and rewards genuine mathematical process rather than presentation. Students who rely on a graphing display lose Paper 1 marks across the board.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology-led method. Higher Level Paper 3 is extended problem solving and harder than the course's reputation suggests. Marks go to interpretation: correct calculator output with no statement of what it means in context earns very little.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, waves, fields and electricity, with Higher Level extension woven through rather than appended. Explanation questions reward reasoning from a principle, not describing a graph. The scientific investigation is marked out of twenty-four across four criteria.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure, reactivity, energetics and organic mechanisms. Multi-step calculations compound an early rounding error, so working must be visible for the method marks to survive. Organic chemistry memorised rather than reasoned collapses on unfamiliar molecules.

Biology

HL and SL

Command-term precision decides the grade. Data-based questions reward careful axis reading, and the investigation struggles most often on controlled-variable justification. Students who write everything they know score below students who answer the verb.

Economics

HL and SL

Three commentaries on published articles, each tied to a different syllabus unit and word-limited, forming the Internal Assessment. Diagram accuracy carries the explanation built on it, and Higher Level adds quantitative content plus a policy paper rewarding judgement over description.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen textual analysis under timing in Paper 1, a comparative essay in Paper 2, and an internally assessed Individual Oral linking a global issue to two texts. The usual loss is summarising rather than analysing, and choosing a global issue too broad to anchor in specific passages.

English B

HL and SL

Assessed across receptive, productive and interactive skills, with text-type conventions examined explicitly. A blog, a formal letter and a speech are marked partly on register and format, so confident speakers often underperform on accuracy nobody taught them.

History

HL and SL

Source-based Paper 1 on a prescribed subject, thematic Paper 2, and a Higher Level regional option in Paper 3. The historical investigation requires formal source evaluation, where students summarise content instead of assessing value and limitations.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools and theories applied to real organisations, with a Higher Level research project on a real business issue using primary and secondary evidence. Describing a company rather than applying a framework is the standard failure, as is choosing a business nobody can gather evidence about.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Systems fundamentals, computational thinking and a programming solution documented through planning, design, development and evaluation records. The solution needs a real client and a documented process rather than ambition. Hand-tracing algorithms is the missing skill.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all Diploma students

An exhibition and a prescribed-title essay, assessed on the quality of knowledge-question analysis rather than content recall. Students find it hard because there is nothing to revise; what helps is structured argument practice against the actual assessment instrument.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Tilal Al Ghaf families run IB tuition with us, all delivered live one-to-one over video at Gulf Standard Time. The short local school run makes an earlier start possible than in most of this belt.

One subject weekly, planned from its components

One tutor, one protected slot, with the plan built from that subject's actual assessment structure rather than a general sense of difficulty. A subject whose Internal Assessment carries a quarter of the grade gets different session time from one where it carries a fifth, and the paper weightings decide what gets practised.

  • Planned from the subject's own component weightings
  • Set work between sessions, marked in the next
  • Internal Assessment steps spread across weeks
  • Written note the same evening after each lesson

A command-term block across subjects

The most efficient four to six sessions available in the Diploma. Rather than teaching content, the tutor works on how to answer 'explain', 'evaluate', 'compare', 'deduce' and 'discuss', using questions drawn from the student's own subjects. Because the verbs recur everywhere, one block lifts marks across the whole timetable.

  • Questions drawn from the student's real subjects
  • Answers marked against the criteria and rewritten
  • Four to six sessions is usually enough
  • Gains apply across several subjects at once

Internal Assessment coaching across a term

Every Diploma subject has one and they are all worth a substantial share of the grade. Coaching runs over a term: viability of the chosen question first, then the content or method the student will need, then structured feedback on their own drafts against the criteria. The student writes every word.

  • Viability tested before any data or drafting
  • Criteria explained by letter and mark allocation
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts only
  • Nothing written by the tutor at any stage

Holiday intensive and Ramadan-adjusted blocks

Dubai school breaks allow four or five sessions a week, which covers ground a single weekly slot cannot. The summer between the two Diploma years is the last uncongested block in the programme. Ramadan sessions move to the earlier afternoon or post-Iftar and shorten rather than stop.

  • Four to five sessions a week in school breaks
  • Best used for whole-topic repair, not technique
  • Post-Iftar scheduling available in Ramadan
  • Shorter sessions in preference to skipped weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Tilal Al Ghaf

01

What 'IB home tutor in Tilal Al Ghaf' gets you in practice

In the Dubai market the phrase means one of two things. Either a freelance or agency tutor who drives to your villa and teaches at your table, charging a rate that includes the journey, or an online specialist who teaches the same hour over live video without it. IB Gram is the second. We do not send tutors to UAE homes; that is a service we run only in India, and no part of this page should be read as offering it here.

Tilal Al Ghaf changes the usual arithmetic slightly, and in an interesting direction. Because the community has its own school and sits beside DAMAC Hills and Dubai Sports City, which also have schools inside them, the local school run is short and an in-home tutor's journey is the only long drive in the arrangement. The premium you would pay is therefore entirely the tutor's travel rather than a shared constraint: your child is home early, and the tutor is still crossing Dubai.

The second cost is the one that actually decides Diploma outcomes. In-home tuition restricts the choice to tutors willing and able to reach this part of Dubailand in your slot. For general Middle Years support that pool is adequate. For Chemistry Higher Level, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level, or History Higher Level with a specific Paper 3 regional option, it is thin — not because Tilal Al Ghaf is remote but because those specialisms are narrow across the whole emirate. Online removes geography from the shortlist and leaves only the question of whether the tutor knows the course.

Where in-home genuinely wins is the youngest pupils and the most distractible ones, where an adult physically present is the intervention rather than the delivery method. A Year 3 child who needs someone beside them to stay on task is not well served by a screen, and we say so rather than arguing otherwise. For Diploma and upper Middle Years work, where a session means worked problems, a marked answer and a conversation about an Internal Assessment, the screen is not the limitation.

The subjects are not interchangeable: assessment structure compared

This is the table that should drive how a family spends tutoring money, and no competitor page in this market publishes anything like it. Diploma subjects differ substantially in how their grades are built. In some, the Internal Assessment carries a fifth of the mark; in others it carries a quarter or more. Some subjects set two papers, others three. Some Higher Level courses add a whole component; others deepen the existing ones.

The practical consequence is that the same number of tutoring hours produces different returns in different subjects. In a subject where the Internal Assessment carries a quarter of the grade and the student has not started it, the most valuable sessions available are the ones spent on viability and process. In a subject where the written papers carry the overwhelming share and the Internal Assessment is already submitted, hours belong in paper technique. Families who allocate by anxiety rather than by weighting routinely put the hours in the wrong place.

Confirm the current weightings for your child's specific subjects with their teacher or Diploma coordinator before planning around any description, this one included, because the IB revises subject guides periodically and the live guide is the authority. The table below is a structural guide to the kinds of difference that exist, not a substitute for the current guide.

One general rule does hold across subjects. Higher Level consumes roughly half again the tutoring time of the Standard Level version of the same subject to reach the same relative position, because there is more content and, in several subjects, an additional component with its own technique. Three Higher Level subjects tutored weekly is more evening than a Diploma student has, and it produces a student too tired to do the set work.

Command terms: the one skill that pays in every subject

  • Each command term asks for a specific structure of answer
  • The verbs recur across subjects, so one block lifts several
  • A four-mark question wants four distinct points, not elaboration
  • Over-writing early costs the marks of later questions
  • 'Develop exam technique' means these things, specifically

If a Diploma student can only change one thing, it should be this. IB examination questions are built on command terms, and each one asks for a specific kind of answer. 'State' wants a sentence. 'Describe' wants what happens. 'Explain' wants why. 'Compare' wants both similarities and differences, not one of each. 'Evaluate' wants a judgement with reasons on both sides. 'Deduce' wants a conclusion drawn from information given. A student who writes everything they know satisfies none of them.

The reason this is the highest-yield intervention in the Diploma is that the verbs recur across every subject. A student who learns to answer 'evaluate' properly recovers marks in Economics, History, Biology and Business Management at once. No content teaching does that. Four to six focused sessions, using questions from the student's own subjects, marked against the actual criteria and rewritten in the session, changes how the student writes for the remainder of the course.

The second thing worth teaching explicitly is the mark-to-length relationship. A four-mark question wants four marks' worth of content, which is usually four distinct points rather than a paragraph of elaboration on one. Students who write at length on a four-mark question lose time they then do not have for the twelve-mark question later in the paper, and unanswered questions score nothing however well the subject is understood.

Both of these are learnable in a way content is not, and both are invisible in a school report. A student can be described as needing to 'develop exam technique' for two years without anyone specifying what that means. Naming it — the verbs, the mark-to-length relationship, the habit of finishing the paper — turns a vague comment into four weeks of concrete work.

04

Internal Assessment criteria, by subject group

Every Diploma subject has an internally assessed component and they are collectively worth a substantial share of a student's points total. They are also the component students start latest and the one a tutor can most legitimately and usefully influence, because the decisions that determine the mark are made early and are mostly about scope rather than content.

The criteria differ by subject group but the failure modes rhyme. In the sciences, the investigation is marked out of twenty-four across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, and the commonest failure is a question whose effect is smaller than the measurement uncertainty. In mathematics, the exploration is marked out of twenty across presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics, and the commonest failure is a safe topic using mathematics below the course level. In History, the investigation requires formal source evaluation that students substitute with summary.

Across all of them the same two things are true. First, the criteria that reward the student's own thinking — personal engagement, reflection, evaluation — carry a meaningful share of the marks and are the cheapest to secure, because they reward work the student can actually do once they know it is being assessed. Most students who lose them lose them by not knowing they exist. Second, scope decides everything: a question too large produces description, one too small cannot reach the upper bands.

Confirm the current criteria and mark allocations for your child's subjects with their teacher, since the IB revises its guides. The table sets out the shape of what is assessed rather than the live detail, and the point of publishing it is that no competitor page in this market names a single criterion in any subject.

05

Past papers: how to practise each kind of component

Most Diploma students revise by reading and then wonder why mock results do not move. The components are different in kind and each requires a different sort of practice, which is worth setting out because nobody usually does.

Multiple-choice sections reward timed volume. The distractors are predictable once a student has seen enough of them, and working forty questions against a clock teaches more than reading a textbook chapter. Data-analysis sections reward a specific skill set — uncertainty, graph interpretation, gradients with physical meaning — that can be taught as a topic in two or three sessions and then applies every time.

Extended-response papers need to be practised whole, at least sometimes. A student who only ever works individual questions never discovers that their accuracy falls in the final half hour, and in a two-hour paper that is where a grade goes. Full-length practice is tiring and unpopular and it is the single thing most students have never done before a mock. Higher Level third papers, where a subject sets one, cannot be built from short questions at all, because the difficulty is sustaining an argument across connected parts.

The marking matters more than the doing. A paper worked and then marked against the published scheme, with every lost mark categorised as content, method, command term or timing, tells a student where to go next. The same paper worked and self-assessed as 'mostly fine' tells them nothing. One properly marked paper a fortnight, with the categories recorded, outperforms weekly papers nobody analyses — and it fits into a household week that has other demands in it.

06

What it costs, set against the fees you already pay

Tutoring decisions in Dubai are made inside a household budget that already carries school fees, so the useful comparison is against that line rather than in isolation. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion out of AED 2.5 billion in total. So the fee line is flat and predictable; tutoring is the variable one.

The market bands, read in October 2026 from competitors' own published figures: EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65 an hour, Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52, Unitors from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB, TutorChase at AED 270, BartyED at AED 650. Bestimate's Dubai table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350 and IB or IGCSE specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. Monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to AED 600 budget, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Against a Dubai private-school fee bill, one weekly session at the mid band is a modest addition. Two subjects at two sessions a week through an exam year is not, and that is a decision a family should make deliberately rather than arrive at by accumulation. The honest guidance is to allocate by assessment weighting rather than by worry: a subject where a quarter of the grade is still in play through an unstarted Internal Assessment deserves the hours more than a subject where only paper technique remains.

IB Gram publishes no hourly rate on this page. The reason is that the right figure depends on the subject, the level and how many weeks remain, and one number spanning every IB subject would mislead. What we publish is the market band so any quote can be checked, including ours, and a free first lesson so the first hour costs nothing and you judge the teaching rather than the brochure.

KHDA, the mandatory subjects and the school report you should read

  • 227 private schools and 387,441 pupils in Dubai in 2024-25
  • The IB accounts for 7% of enrolment; the UK curriculum 37%
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are compulsory regardless of curriculum
  • Mandatory-subject time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit
  • No tutoring company is KHDA-approved without a named permit

Dubai private schools are overseen by KHDA, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, inspecting annually across six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. The market is large: 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37% of enrolment, Indian at 26%, American at 14% and the International Baccalaureate at 7%. Seven new schools open for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three IB, adding 16,846 places.

Those numbers explain something families in Tilal Al Ghaf notice without being able to name. The IB cohort is a minority of a very large market, and in a predominantly British-curriculum part of Dubailand a Diploma student may be one of a small number at their school taking a particular Higher Level subject. That is precisely the situation in which selecting a tutor by distance fails and selecting by subject works.

The part of the regulatory picture that affects your week is the mandatory-subject requirement. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, prohibiting combined classes because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ, and calculates mandatory-subject time on a 40-minute lesson unit. So a Diploma student's day carries load beyond six subjects.

One caution. IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved, or licensed or accredited by the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no provider should claim otherwise without showing a permit number. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai. We name KHDA here because it governs your child's school and publishes the inspection report you should read — and the useful part of that report is the subject-level commentary, not the headline band.

08

Academic honesty, permits and the limits we work to

This market includes operations that sell completed Internal Assessments at a published price. That is not tutoring, and submitting bought work is academic misconduct whose consequence falls on the student rather than the seller. Because Dubai parents are approached by such providers through the same channels as legitimate ones, the boundary belongs on the page before anyone asks.

A tutor may teach the content a piece of coursework rests on, explain what each criterion rewards and what its descriptors mean, test whether a research question is viable, read the student's own draft and give feedback on it, and teach referencing properly. That is the range a supervising teacher works within and it is where almost all of the available improvement sits. A tutor may not write any part of the work, supply a topic to be adopted wholesale, edit a draft into something the student did not produce, or provide data the student did not collect.

We also do not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides. Those belong to the IB; we reference them, cite the official source and teach the student to read the assessment criteria themselves. And we do not describe tutors as IB examiners where current status cannot be evidenced, because examiner experience gives no access to marking, grade boundaries or unseen paper content in any case.

On regulation: private tutoring in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years to teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Those operating without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so distrust any page printing an amount, and ask any tutor to show you the permit rather than describe it.

Where we tutor

Tilal Al Ghaf and the communities around it

Tilal Al Ghaf sits in the western Dubailand belt with a school inside the community, which shortens the school run. These are the neighbours it shares roads and school clusters with.

Tilal Al Ghaf

A master-planned community with villas and townhouses arranged around Lagoon Al Ghaf, and a British-curriculum school inside the boundary. The short school run means a four-thirty or five o'clock weekday session start is realistic rather than optimistic.

DAMAC Hills

Immediate neighbour with its own school provision. Many Tilal Al Ghaf families looked at both communities, and pupils move between them, so the school clusters overlap substantially.

Dubai Sports City

Several schools inside the community and heavy training commitments among pupils. Families here commonly compress tutoring into holiday blocks rather than running a weekly term-time slot.

Mudon

Villa community with schooling spread across the Dubailand periphery and shared transport, so arrival times vary by up to half an hour day to day. A fixed online slot absorbs that; a tutor at a gate does not.

Remraam

Apartment-led community with pupils travelling out to Dubailand schools. Diploma students here are often the only one in their year at their school taking a particular Higher Level subject, which concentrates the need for specialist support.

Arabian Ranches 3

Newer phases a short drive north, with most secondary pupils travelling out. A high proportion have changed school in the last three years, which makes syllabus-gap diagnosis the first task rather than exam technique.

Town Square

A younger demographic with most pupils in primary or lower secondary. Middle Years criterion support and Arabic as an additional language are the most requested streams, well ahead of Diploma subject work.

Predominantly British curriculum, so Diploma students from this direction came through IGCSE rather than the Middle Years Programme. The mathematics route decision at Diploma entry is the recurring question.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Tilal Al Ghaf

Tilal Al Ghaf, DAMAC Hills and Dubai Sports City

The immediate cluster, with schools inside or adjacent to each community. British-curriculum provision dominates here, which means most local Diploma students arrive from IGCSE rather than from the Middle Years Programme.

  • GEMS Metropole School
  • South View School

Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills and the Ranches

Where Tilal Al Ghaf families travel for IB Diploma provision, which is concentrated in a small number of schools. Several run the full continuum, so their Diploma students approach assessment differently from local IGCSE entrants.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject and the level

Not 'IB maths' or 'IB science' but the specific course at the specific level, because each has its own components and weightings. That single answer determines what the plan looks like, and a tutor who does not ask for it is about to teach a category rather than a course.

  2. 02

Say where the Internal Assessment stands

No topic yet, a topic but no work, work underway, or a draft written. Those four states need entirely different first sessions, and the earlier your child is in that list the more a tutor can affect a component that frequently carries a fifth or more of the subject grade.

  3. 03

    A diagnostic marked by category

The first session works real questions and categorises every lost mark as content, method, command term or timing, rather than producing a score. Most students have never had their losses categorised, which is why they revise content they already know and never touch the thing costing them most.

  4. 04

A free first lesson with the named tutor

One full lesson, no charge, with the person who would continue. Ask them what the Internal Assessment in that subject is marked out of and against which criteria. A genuine specialist answers immediately; much of this market cannot. Then watch whether they found the real gap.

  5. 05

Use the short local school run

Tilal Al Ghaf's own school provision means many pupils here are home early, so a four-thirty or five o'clock start is realistic rather than optimistic. That matters because an earlier session catches a student with attention left, which is worth more than any adjustment to the lesson plan.

  6. 06

    Review against evidence, not habit

Each report, mock and marked draft is a checkpoint where the plan is tested rather than renewed. Sometimes the right answer is to stop in one subject and move the hour to another, and sometimes to stop entirely. A weekly session with no current target has become a routine rather than a plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the course, not the category

Chemistry Higher Level and Economics Standard Level are different jobs with different components, and we match by course and level rather than by subject area. A tutor who offers every IB subject equally is offering general academic help at specialist prices.

Hours allocated by assessment weighting

Diploma subjects build their grades differently, and the same hours produce different returns depending on which component is still in play. We plan from the weightings rather than from which subject worries the family most, which frequently moves the hours somewhere unexpected.

Command terms taught explicitly

Four to six sessions on how to answer the verbs, using questions from your child's own subjects, lifts marks across the whole timetable because the terms recur everywhere. It is the single most efficient block available in the Diploma and almost nobody sells it, because it is not a subject.

Internal Assessment criteria named by letter and mark

No competitor page in this market names a single criterion in any subject. We publish them, coach against them, and keep the writing entirely with the student, because the criteria that reward the student's own thinking are both the cheapest marks and the ones outsourcing destroys.

Costs shown against the fees you already pay

KHDA confirmed no fee increase for 2026-27, so the school line is flat and tutoring is the variable. The dirham bands here are competitors' own published figures with the month they were read, so any quote including ours can be checked against something real.

Clear about what we do not offer

No home visits anywhere in the UAE. No special-educational-needs assessment. No distribution of IB papers or mark schemes. No examiner claims we cannot evidence. No guaranteed grades. No approval or accreditation from the IB, KHDA, ADEK or the Ministry of Education.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Tilal Al Ghaf: your questions answered

Will a tutor come to our villa in Tilal Al Ghaf?+

No. IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition as live one-to-one lessons over video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are a service we run only in India. No tutor is sent to any UAE address. The page uses the phrase 'home tutor' because that is what parents search for, and the question deserves a direct answer. What you get instead is a tutor chosen for the course they teach rather than their willingness to drive out past Hessa Street on a weekday evening.

Why does the subject matter more than the tutor's location here?+

Because Tilal Al Ghaf already has the logistical advantage. The community has a school inside it and sits beside DAMAC Hills and Dubai Sports City, which also do, so the school run is short and your child is home early. The remaining constraint is specialist knowledge, and a tutor who knows Chemistry Higher Level and where its multi-step calculation marks disappear is scarce across the whole emirate rather than only in this community. Distance filtering removes the one variable unrelated to teaching quality.

How should we decide which subject to tutor first?+

By assessment weighting rather than by which subject worries you most. If a subject's Internal Assessment carries a fifth or more of the grade and your child has not started it, those are the most valuable sessions available, because the mark is largely determined by early decisions about scope. If the Internal Assessment is already submitted and only written papers remain, the hours belong in paper technique. Families who allocate by anxiety routinely put the hours where they can change the least.

What are command terms and why do they matter so much?+

They are the verbs IB questions are built on, and each asks for a specific kind of answer. 'Describe' wants what happens; 'explain' wants why; 'compare' wants both similarities and differences; 'evaluate' wants a judgement with reasons on both sides. A student who writes everything they know satisfies none of them. Because the verbs recur across every subject, four to six sessions learning to answer them recovers marks in several subjects simultaneously, which no content teaching achieves.

How many Higher Level subjects can realistically be tutored at once?+

One at two sessions a week, or two at one session each, is the sustainable maximum in term time. Higher Level consumes roughly half again the hours of the Standard Level version of the same subject, because there is more content and in several subjects an additional component with its own technique. Three tutored Higher Level subjects produces a student too tired to complete the set work, and the set work is where most of the improvement actually happens rather than in the session.

What is the Internal Assessment worth in each IB subject?+

It varies, which is exactly why it should be checked rather than assumed. In mathematics the exploration carries a fifth of the grade. In the sciences the individual investigation is marked out of twenty-four and carries a fifth. In Economics the Internal Assessment is three separate commentaries. Confirm the current weighting for each of your child's subjects with their teacher, because the IB revises subject guides, and then let those numbers rather than general impressions decide where the tutoring hours go.

How should a Diploma student actually use past papers?+

Differently for each component. Multiple-choice sections reward timed volume, because the distractors become predictable. Data-analysis sections reward a specific skill set that can be taught as a topic in two or three sessions. Extended-response papers have to be practised whole at least sometimes, or the student never discovers that accuracy falls in the final half hour. And the marking matters more than the doing: one paper a fortnight marked against the scheme with losses categorised beats weekly papers nobody analyses.

Which Dubai schools do Tilal Al Ghaf IB students attend?+

Provision inside and beside the community is predominantly British curriculum, including Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai within Tilal Al Ghaf itself and Jebel Ali School nearby, so local Diploma students often travel further for IB provision, towards Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills Estate and the Arabian Ranches. Named schools here are ecosystem context only and IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them. Read the current KHDA inspection report for any school you are considering, particularly the subject-level commentary.

Can a tutor help with the Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge?+

With the thinking and the feedback, yes. A tutor can explain what the assessment instrument rewards, discuss whether a research question is viable, teach the subject content an essay rests on, help a student structure an argument, and give feedback on their own drafts. A tutor cannot write any part of it, choose the question outright, or edit a draft into something the student did not produce. Theory of Knowledge in particular responds well to structured argument practice, because there is no content to revise.

What does IB tutoring cost in this part of Dubai?+

Market figures read in October 2026 run from roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour for budget and university-student tutors, AED 150 to AED 300 for qualified subject tutors online, and AED 200 to AED 450 or above for IB specialists, with in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 500 including travel. Monthly at one weekly session that is roughly AED 240 to AED 600, AED 600 to AED 1,200, or AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above. Those are published market numbers rather than our prices; the first lesson is free.

Why does my child study Arabic alongside the IB in Dubai?+

Because the emirate requires it regardless of the licensed curriculum. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in all Dubai private schools. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies and prohibits combined classes, because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Two things follow: the school day carries load beyond six Diploma subjects, and Arabic is among the most requested tutoring streams in the emirate.

Is the free first lesson genuinely free, and what should I judge?+

One full lesson, no payment, no card required. Judge three things rather than rapport. Did the tutor show real knowledge of that specific course and level, including what the Internal Assessment is marked out of and against which criteria? Did they locate the actual gap rather than accepting your child's account? Was the work set afterwards clear enough to attempt alone? If any answer is no, say so and we match again. That hour settles the most important variable before any money moves.

What happens if no specialist is free in our evening slot?+

We tell you which part is the constraint, because the fixes differ. If the specialist exists but not in your slot, a different evening or a weekend morning usually resolves it, and Tilal Al Ghaf's short school run gives more flexibility than most of this belt. If the subject at that level is not covered in UAE hours at all, the fallback is a tutor in another time zone teaching at a Gulf Standard Time-compatible hour, and we say where they are based rather than concealing it.

Should we book a tutor before or after the first Diploma report?+

Before, if a subject is already uncomfortable, because the first Diploma year is when Internal Assessments are still fully in play and content can be secured as it is taught rather than retaught. Waiting for a report means waiting for confirmation of something the student already knows. If a report has arrived, use it properly: ask which component the marks came from, because a Diploma report that simply says a subject is weak tells a tutor almost nothing actionable.

Do tutors in Dubai need a MoHRE permit, and how do I check?+

Yes. The private tutor work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so distrust quoted amounts. Ask to see the permit rather than accepting a verbal assurance.

Name the course, then check the weighting

Two pieces of information decide most of a sensible plan. The specific course your child takes and the level they take it at, and what each of its components is worth. With those in hand you can see immediately where the available marks still are: an unstarted Internal Assessment worth a fifth of the grade is a different proposition from a written paper six weeks away. Then book a free first lesson and ask the tutor what that Internal Assessment is marked out of and against which criteria. A genuine specialist answers at once. Tilal Al Ghaf sessions run live and one-to-one over video at Gulf Standard Time. We make no home visits in the UAE and promise no grades.
