IGCSE Tutor near me in Tilal Al Ghaf

A search for an IGCSE tutor near me in Tilal Al Ghaf returns six quite different kinds of provider, and almost nobody explains how they differ. Agency, marketplace, freelance, tuition centre, your child's own school and online one-to-one are separate propositions on cost, accountability and what happens when a tutor does not work out. IB Gram teaches one-to-one, live over video, at Gulf Standard Time.

  • Provider models compared on verifiable criteria, not slogans
  • Matched to the syllabus code and tier before the first lesson
  • A named tutor, with a stated replacement process

IB & IGCSE in Tilal Al Ghaf

Six providers, one search box

The results for an IGCSE tutor near me in Tilal Al Ghaf mix together six business models that have almost nothing in common. There are agencies that place a tutor and take a margin. Marketplaces that list independents and leave the vetting to you. Freelancers you find through a community group. Tuition centres with premises and group classes. Your child's own school, which usually runs intervention sessions at no extra cost. And online one-to-one providers, including this one. They differ on price by a factor of ten, on accountability almost completely, and on what happens when a tutor turns out to be wrong for your child.

Nobody compares them honestly, because every provider's comparison is written to win. The six-row table further down this page compares them on criteria you can actually check: the rate with its published source, whether a permit can be produced, whether you meet the tutor before paying, what the replacement process is, and whether anything is free to try. Where IB Gram scores badly on a row, the row says so, because a comparison that flatters its author is not information.

Tilal Al Ghaf is a useful place to make this argument, because the community removes the variable that usually dominates. There is a school inside the boundary, and DAMAC Hills and Dubai Sports City next door have their own provision, so the school run is short and pupils are often home before four. Travel time, which in most Dubailand villa communities decides which tutors are even available, is not the binding constraint here. What is left is the question of which model gives you a tutor who knows the specification and will still be there in eight weeks.

Before any of that, one piece of information has to be established, and it is the same regardless of which model you choose. Ask your child's exams officer for the awarding body, the syllabus code and the tier, in writing. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is 0580 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A is 4MA1; they tier differently and, in mathematics, differ on calculator access. A tutor from any of the six models who is working from the wrong specification will teach well and leave your child unprepared.

The free option deserves naming early because nobody in this market has an incentive to mention it. Most Dubai schools run subject intervention or clinic sessions for pupils who are behind, included in fees that KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year. Those sessions are taught by the person who will mark your child's mock and who wrote the scheme of work. For a pupil whose problem is keeping up rather than a specific diagnosed gap, that is frequently the correct first move, and it costs nothing.

IB Gram delivers IGCSE tuition to Tilal Al Ghaf as live one-to-one lessons over video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. So one of the six models on this page — in-home one-to-one — is one we do not offer, and the comparison treats it as a real option rather than pretending otherwise.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Which provider model suits depends partly on where your child is in the two IGCSE years. These are the four stages, with the model that usually fits each.

Y9Ages 13-14

Year 9, before the course starts

Work on algebraic fluency, written stamina and reading-response technique, all of which the specifications assume rather than teach. Nothing is urgent, which is why almost nobody books it and why it is the cheapest intervention per mark available over the following two years.

A group class or a budget tutor is often sufficient at this stage, because the need is practice volume rather than specification knowledge. Spending specialist rates on Year 9 content is one of the commonest misallocations in this market.

Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10, building the grade

The year the grade is made. Content gets consolidated as the school teaches it, method and unit discipline are built before questions lengthen, and a mismatched tier entry can still be challenged with evidence. A qualified subject tutor who knows the specification is worth the mid band here.

In Tilal Al Ghaf the short school run makes a four-thirty start realistic, so a Year 10 weekly session need not compete with evening tiredness. Dubai school breaks also allow four or five sessions a week, which is the practical way to rebuild fluency.

Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11, after the mocks

The most common booking and the point at which model choice matters most. A group class cannot stop for one pupil's three weak topics, and school intervention may be covering content the pupil already has. One-to-one with a specialist who reads the marked mock properly is what the evidence usually calls for.

Confirm which series the school enters and, for Cambridge, which of the six administrative zones the centre sits in, because Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for the zone and cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam otherwise.

Post16Ages 16-17

After IGCSE

Either a bridging block into A Level or IB courses, or a November resit block if a grade fell short of a sixth-form requirement. Both are short and specific, which suits one-to-one rather than a group, because the work is a small number of named gaps rather than a syllabus.

For a UAE university application the Ministry of Education's British-track equivalency requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. Verify on the Ministry's own channel.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Tilal Al Ghaf families ask about, with both boards' codes. Any provider from any of the six models should be able to name the papers for the code your child sits.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Edexcel 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Edexcel permits a calculator in both papers; Cambridge's current structure pairs a non-calculator paper with a calculator one, so confirm which your child sits. Unshown method forfeits credit even where the final answer is correct.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 · Edexcel Further Pure 4PM1

Taken alongside the main course by pupils heading for A Level Mathematics or IB Analysis and Approaches. Calculus and logarithms arrive early, and differentiation is where fluency and genuine understanding separate.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Edexcel 4PH1

Electricity is the reliable weak point because circuit reasoning holds three relationships together at once. Cambridge sets a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper depending on the centre's entry; Edexcel assesses practical skills within the written papers.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Edexcel 4CH1

Mole calculations decide the grade because they recur and compound, and concentration units cost more across a paper than conceptual gaps do. Qualitative analysis is learned content and the cheapest marks available.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Edexcel 4BI1

Large content load with exact terminology. Diffusion, osmosis and active transport are separated in the mark scheme and conflated under pressure, and inheritance questions want the cross drawn rather than reasoned in prose.

Combined and Co-ordinated Science

Cambridge 0653 and 0654 · Edexcel 4SD0

Single or double awards covering all three sciences. Content per science is reduced and the marking standard is identical, which catches out pupils who were told the course was lighter and concluded it was easier.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990 · Edexcel 4EA1

Reading response and directed writing, marked on comprehension, summary skill and control of register. The summary question is the most coachable task on the paper because it rewards selection rather than style.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

Text-type conventions are assessed explicitly, so an email, a report and an article each carry format and register marks. Confident speakers routinely underperform here because nobody taught them the conventions.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450 · Edexcel 4BS1

Case-study assessment where context carries the marks. Answering with textbook theory and never referring to the business in the stimulus is the standard loss, and the ratio calculations get skipped under time pressure.

Economics

Cambridge 0455 · Edexcel 4EC1

A mislabelled diagram axis undermines every sentence built on it, and evaluation marks require an explicit stated judgement that pupils omit even after writing a strong explanation.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478 · Edexcel 4CP0

Binary, hexadecimal and logic gates are learnable in a handful of sessions and recur every series. Hand-tracing pseudocode is the skill most pupils lack, because they have learned to run code rather than predict it.

Arabic

First language and additional language, plus mandated strands

Compulsory in Dubai private schools alongside the licensed curriculum, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Tilal Al Ghaf families run IGCSE tuition with us, all live one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time. These are our own delivery modes; the six provider models compared below are a wider question.

Weekly one-to-one, early slot

One tutor, one protected slot, working from the syllabus code and tier your child sits. The early start this community allows means the session catches a pupil before homework rather than after it, which changes what an hour produces more than any lesson plan does.

  • Four-thirty starts are realistic in this community
  • Planned from the specification, not a generic scheme
  • Problem set between sessions, marked in the next
  • Written note the same evening after each lesson

A diagnostic block after a mock

Two or three sessions aimed purely at establishing what the marked mock is telling you, before any longer commitment. Some families finish a diagnostic block and conclude that school intervention sessions will do, and we would rather they reached that conclusion with evidence than after a term of invoices.

  • A full timed paper, marked against the scheme
  • Every lost mark categorised by type
  • A written recommendation, including 'you may not need us'
  • No obligation to continue afterwards

Holiday and Ramadan-adjusted blocks

Dubai school breaks allow four or five sessions a week, which is the only realistic way to rebuild fluency rather than patch it. Ramadan sessions move to the earlier afternoon or a post-Iftar slot and shorten rather than stop, because continuity holds a revision sequence together.

  • Four to five sessions a week in school breaks
  • Aimed at manipulation and arithmetic, not technique
  • Post-Iftar scheduling available in Ramadan
  • Shorter sessions in preference to skipped weeks

Two subjects, one tutor, consecutive slots

Common in Year 11 where mathematics and a science are both weak, because the shared cause is frequently quantitative rather than subject-specific. These remain two separate one-to-one lessons; what is shared is the tutor, the diagnosis and one scheduling decision.

  • Back-to-back individual lessons, never a group
  • Shared diagnosis across maths and science
  • One block to protect in the household calendar
  • Usual pairing: 0580 or 4MA1 with 0620 or 0625

01

The six models, compared on things you can check

Here is the comparison this search needs and nobody publishes. The rows are criteria a parent can verify rather than claims a provider makes about itself, and the rates are market figures read in October 2026 from providers' own published pages rather than estimates. Where a row reflects badly on online one-to-one delivery, it says so.

The two rows that matter most are the ones about what happens after you commit. First, replacement: if the tutor is pleasant but wrong for your child, what is the process? An agency usually has one. A marketplace leaves you to start again. A freelance arrangement found through a community group has no process at all, which is fine until you need one. Second, whether you meet the tutor before paying. A trial lesson with the actual tutor is a different thing from a consultation with a salesperson, and the difference is usually not advertised.

The permit row is the one almost no parent asks about, which is odd given it is free to satisfy. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. A tutor in any model can show it; evasion tells you something.

The rate column is wide because the market is. EdFlik publishes from AED 45 to AED 65 an hour, Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52, Unitors from AED 150 for IGCSE, TutorChase at AED 270, BartyED at AED 650. Bestimate's Dubai table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350 and IGCSE specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. Those are their figures, published by them, which is what makes them usable as a benchmark for any quote you receive.

The free option, and when it is the right one

  • Most Dubai schools run intervention sessions included in fees
  • KHDA confirmed no fee increase for 2026-27 on 22 May 2026
  • School intervention is guaranteed to be on the correct specification
  • It cannot address one pupil's method, units or timing habits
  • Ask the school first; then categorise the mock; then decide

Almost every Dubai school runs some form of subject intervention: a clinic before or after school, a lunchtime session, a targeted group for pupils below expectation. It is included in fees that KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. No tutoring company has an incentive to tell you about it, so it is worth stating clearly.

The school's intervention has two advantages no external provider can match. It is taught by the person who wrote the scheme of work and will mark your child's mock, so it is guaranteed to be on the right specification at the right tier. And it is free. For a pupil whose difficulty is keeping up with the pace rather than a specific diagnosed gap, that combination is hard to beat, and a family who pays for external tutoring without first asking what the school offers has skipped the obvious step.

Where it falls short is individual diagnosis. An intervention group is organised around content the department judges the group needs, which may not be where your child's marks are actually going. If a marked mock shows losses concentrated in method, units, command terms and timing rather than in content, no amount of content reteaching will touch them, and a group cannot stop to work on one pupil's habits. That is the case in which one-to-one earns its rate.

So the sequence we would recommend, against our own commercial interest, is: ask the school what intervention exists and put your child in it; get the most recent mock marked properly with losses categorised; and only then decide whether an external tutor is addressing something the school is not. Families who do that in Year 10 frequently need no external tutoring at all, and the ones who do need it arrive with a clear brief.

03

Group class or one-to-one: read the mock to decide

The group-against-individual question is usually answered by budget, and it should be answered by the shape of the losses. A marked mock paper tells you which, and the test is simple enough to apply yourself.

If lost marks are spread fairly evenly across the paper, with no topic conspicuously worse than the rest, the problem is coverage and pace. The pupil has met everything and consolidated none of it. That is exactly what a group class does well: more exposure, more practice, more questions worked at a manageable speed, at a fraction of the one-to-one rate. Paying individual rates for that is paying a premium for attention the pupil does not specifically need.

If lost marks cluster — three or four topics accounting for most of the deficit, or one paper much weaker than the other, or a pattern of method and unit errors running through everything — a group will not touch it. A group cannot pause on one pupil's sign errors for twenty minutes, and it cannot run a session on the alternative-to-practical paper because two of the twelve pupils present never sat one. Clustered losses are the case for one-to-one.

There is a third pattern worth naming: a paper with large sections unattempted. That is a timing and pacing problem, and it is the cheapest of all to fix because it needs practice under a clock rather than teaching. It can be addressed with a tutor, with school intervention or alone with a timer and a mark scheme, and a family should not pay specialist rates for something a disciplined fortnight would solve.

WHAT THE MARKED MOCK IS TELLING YOU

Losses spread evenly across the paperCoverage and pace, not a specific gapGroup class or school interventionBelow one-to-one rates, or free

04

Why the nearest tutor still needs checking

Even in a community where distance is not the constraint, a local recommendation carries a specific risk in this part of Dubai. Tilal Al Ghaf pupils attend the school inside the community, schools in DAMAC Hills and Dubai Sports City, and a spread of others across Dubailand and Al Barsha South. Those schools do not all use the same awarding body, and in the sciences they do not all enter the same award.

So the tutor who taught your neighbour's child superbly may have no working knowledge of the specification your own child sits. Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry is 0620 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry is 4CH1; they examine similar chemistry with different paper structures. In mathematics the difference is sharper still, because Edexcel permits a calculator in both papers while Cambridge's current structure pairs a non-calculator paper with a calculator one. A tutor who has only ever prepared Edexcel candidates has never had to take a calculator off a desk.

The check costs one email and two minutes. Get the board, code and tier in writing from the exams officer, then ask any candidate tutor to describe the papers for that code: how many, how long, what each covers, whether a calculator is permitted. The answer is either specific or it is not, and that single question sorts this market faster than any amount of reading reviews.

The same question works across all six models. An agency should be able to confirm which of its tutors teaches that code. A marketplace profile should state it. A tuition centre should be able to say which board its class follows, and if the class mixes boards you should know that before enrolling. Your child's school teacher obviously knows. And an online provider has no excuse for not asking you the question in the first place.

05

How to verify any provider, in order

This is the section that makes the rest of the page usable, because a comparison is only worth having if you can test the claims. Each of these checks costs nothing and takes minutes, and together they eliminate most of what goes wrong in this market.

Start with the permit, because it is free to hold and therefore free to produce. Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition permit rather than accepting a verbal assurance. Then ask the specification question above. Then ask who will teach every session: a named individual, or whoever is available that week. Rotating tutors are workable for homework supervision and useless for a Year 11 repair block, because the first ten minutes of every session go on rediscovering where the pupil is.

Then ask what the first session will produce. 'We will get to know each other' is a weak answer for a paid hour; 'a marked paper and a list of where the marks went' is a strong one. Then ask what you will receive after each session. A written note the same day is checkable. A monthly summary is not, and it conceals stalled sessions for three weeks longer than a weekly note would.

Finally, two things to ask whose answers should make you walk away. Any guarantee of a specific grade or improvement, which nobody can control and which no legitimate provider offers. And any claim of approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson without a permit number to show. IB Gram holds none of those, and a KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai rather than something a tutoring brand can imply.

06

What each model actually costs over a Year 11 block

Hourly rates are not comparable across models, because the models deliver different amounts of attention per hour. So here is the same commitment — the weeks between a January mock and a June series — priced across all six, using market figures read in October 2026.

Roughly twenty weeks is forty hours at two sessions a week. School intervention: free, included in fees, typically one or two group sessions a week. A tuition centre group class: below one-to-one rates per hour, so a materially smaller total, with the attention divided among the class. A budget online or university-student tutor at AED 45 to AED 150 an hour: roughly AED 1,800 to AED 6,000. A qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to AED 300: roughly AED 6,000 to AED 12,000. An IGCSE specialist at AED 200 to AED 450 and above: roughly AED 8,000 to AED 18,000 or more. In-home at AED 180 to AED 500 including travel: roughly AED 7,200 to AED 20,000.

The honest reading of that range is that the differences are large enough to matter and the right answer is rarely the top of it. A pupil with evenly spread losses placed in a group class plus school intervention may do as well as one in a specialist one-to-one block, at a tenth of the cost, because what they needed was practice volume. A pupil with clustered losses in a group class will not improve regardless of how many hours are purchased, because the format cannot address the problem.

IB Gram publishes no hourly rate on this page. The reason is that the right figure depends on board, tier, subject and weeks remaining, and a single number across all of those would mislead. What we publish is the market band so any quote can be checked, including ours, plus a free first lesson so the first hour costs nothing and you judge the teaching rather than the brochure. If that first lesson suggests school intervention would serve your child better, we will say so.

The series, and the dates that are verifiable

  • UAE candidates sit June and November; February and March is India-only
  • Cambridge timetables are zone-specific across six zones
  • Edexcel November 2026 ran to 19 November 2026
  • June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026
  • Entries close months ahead; a resit means the next series

Whichever model you choose, the calendar is the same and it is worth getting right because UAE-facing pages repeatedly get it wrong. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series. The February and March series exists and is offered to India only; a candidate in Dubai does not sit it. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November.

Cambridge adds one further operational detail. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone's timetable. Ask the exams officer which zone the centre sits in before planning study leave around any timetable you have downloaded.

The Pearson dates worth quoting are backward-looking, which is what makes them checkable. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026. November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. For any series still ahead, use the month and check the live official timetable, because Pearson publishes provisional timetables that can be revised.

The practical point for a family choosing a provider is that entries close months before papers are sat, and a resit is an entry for the next series rather than something taken on demand. That means the window in which a model choice can still change an outcome is narrower than it feels. A family comparing six providers in April for a June series is comparing options that can realistically deliver technique and a handful of topic repairs, not content coverage, and any provider implying otherwise is selling comfort.

08

Permits, papers and claims to distrust

The regulatory position is the same whichever of the six models you choose, and knowing it gives a parent real leverage. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through its app, website and e-services.

What happens to a provider operating without one is the question the search results cannot answer, and nor, honestly, can this page. The law says only that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, and the figure circulating online could not be verified, so there is no amount to quote and none is quoted here. Put that through the verification order in section four. Of the six models, the marketplace listing and the community-group freelancer are the two most likely to show you a penalty figure as a reason to sign up this evening, and a number that nobody has published is not a reason to decide anything today.

There is one further question to ask, particularly of a freelance or agency arrangement. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to pupils enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar. Treat that as press-reported and verify it against the current ADEK document if it affects your decision. Either way, 'your child's own class teacher, privately' is an arrangement to avoid rather than to seek.

On materials: syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing or distributing them is copyright infringement. We do not supply them, and a provider offering a bundle of papers and answers is offering something it should not. We also do not describe tutors as examiners where current status cannot be evidenced, and examiner experience gives no access to marking, boundaries or unseen paper content. IB Gram holds no approval or accreditation from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson.

Where we tutor

Tilal Al Ghaf and the communities around it

These communities appear in a proximity search for a Tilal Al Ghaf address. The useful difference between them is whether a school sits inside the boundary, because that decides how much of the evening is available.

Tilal Al Ghaf

Villas and townhouses around Lagoon Al Ghaf with a British-curriculum school inside the community. Pupils are often home before four, which makes an early session realistic and widens the choice of workable slots.

DAMAC Hills

Immediate neighbour with its own school provision, so the same early-evening advantage applies. Pupils move between the two communities and the school clusters overlap almost entirely.

Dubai Sports City

Schools inside the community, but training commitments consume the early evening the short commute creates. Holiday intensive blocks are more common here than protected term-time slots.

Motor City

A school inside the community and a predominantly British-curriculum cohort, so the IGCSE load is heavy and two subjects are often needed at once in Year 11.

Mudon

Schooling spread across the Dubailand periphery with shared transport, so arrival times vary day to day and the realistic start is later. A fixed online slot absorbs that variation.

Remraam

Apartment-led, with pupils travelling out to Dubailand schools. Candidates here are often the only pupil in their year taking a particular subject, so informal advice is harder to come by.

Arabian Ranches 3

Newer phases a short drive north where most secondary pupils travel out, pushing the realistic start past five. A high proportion changed school recently, which is when entry and tier information gets lost.

Town Square

A younger demographic with most pupils below IGCSE age. Year 9 preparation and Arabic as an additional language are the main requests here.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Tilal Al Ghaf

Tilal Al Ghaf, DAMAC Hills and Dubai Sports City

The immediate cluster, with schools inside or beside each community and predominantly British-curriculum provision. Both awarding bodies appear here, so a neighbour's recommendation needs checking against your own child's syllabus code.

  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Bradenton Preparatory Academy
  • GEMS Metropole School
  • South View School

Dubailand and Al Barsha South

The wider belt Tilal Al Ghaf families travel into for particular subjects or sixth-form provision, mixing British-curriculum and IB continuum schools within a single drive outside peak hours.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school what it already offers

Before comparing external providers, ask what intervention or clinic sessions exist and put your child in them. They are included in fees, taught by the person who marks the mock, and guaranteed to be on the right specification. A family who skips this step sometimes pays for something they were already entitled to.

  2. 02

Get the board, code and tier in writing

Email the exams officer. Cambridge 0580 and Edexcel 4MA1 differ on calculator access and tier naming, and in the sciences the award itself varies. This single answer lets you test any provider from any model in two minutes by asking them to describe the papers.

  3. 03

Have the mock marked and categorised

Not scored but categorised: every lost mark labelled content, method, units, command term or timing. Evenly spread losses point to a group class or school intervention. Clustered losses point to one-to-one. Unattempted sections point to timed practice that may need no tutor at all.

  4. 04

A free first lesson with the named tutor

One full lesson, no charge, with the person who would continue. Judge whether they knew the specification, found the real problem, and set work your child could attempt alone. If the honest answer is that school intervention would serve better, we will tell you that in the follow-up note.

  5. 05

Use the early slot this community allows

Tilal Al Ghaf pupils are often home before four because the school is inside the community, so a four-thirty start is realistic rather than aspirational. An earlier session catches a pupil with attention left, which changes what the hour produces more than any lesson plan.

  6. 06

Review at the next mock, and be willing to stop

Each mock is a checkpoint where the categorised losses are compared with the previous set. If the pattern has shifted the plan shifts with it, and if a subject is secure we end the block rather than rolling it forward. A weekly session with no current target is a routine, not a plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A comparison that includes the free option

This page names your child's school intervention as a model and explains when it is the right one, which no tutoring provider has an incentive to do. It is free, taught by the person who marks the mock, and guaranteed to be on the correct specification.

Models compared on checkable criteria

Rate with its published source, whether a permit can be produced, whether you meet the tutor before paying, and what happens when the match is wrong. Where online one-to-one scores badly — including that we offer no home visits at all — the table says so.

Group or individual decided by the mock

Evenly spread losses mean coverage and pace, which a group class handles well at a fraction of the cost. Clustered losses mean a group cannot help however many hours are bought. We read the marked paper before recommending a format, rather than after.

A diagnostic block with no obligation

Two or three sessions to establish what the evidence says, with a written recommendation that may be that you do not need us. Some families finish a diagnostic and go back to school intervention, and that is a better outcome than a term of invoices reaching the same place.

A verification sequence you can use anywhere

Permit, specification, named tutor, first-session output, written notes, and the two answers that should make you walk away. It works on all six models, including ours, and costs nothing but a few minutes.

Clear about what we are not

No home visits in the UAE. No entry administration. No distribution of awarding-body papers or mark schemes. No examiner claims we cannot evidence. No guaranteed grades. No approval or accreditation from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson, because we hold none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Tilal Al Ghaf: your questions answered

What kinds of IGCSE provider will a local search actually return?+

Six, with very different economics. Your child's own school, which usually runs intervention sessions included in fees. A tuition centre offering group classes. An agency that places a tutor and takes a margin. A marketplace listing independents with the vetting left to you. A freelancer found through a community group. And online one-to-one providers. They differ by a factor of ten on price and almost completely on accountability, particularly on what happens when a tutor turns out to be wrong for your child.

Should we try the school's intervention sessions before paying for a tutor?+

Usually yes, and almost nobody says so because nobody has an incentive to. School intervention is included in fees that KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 would not rise for 2026-27, it is taught by the person who wrote the scheme of work and will mark the mock, and it is therefore guaranteed to be on the correct specification and tier. Where it falls short is individual diagnosis: a group cannot stop for one pupil's method or timing habits. Ask what exists, then decide.

How do I tell whether a group class will be enough?+

Read the marked mock. If lost marks are spread fairly evenly across the paper with no topic conspicuously worse, the problem is coverage and pace, and a group class gives exactly that at a fraction of one-to-one rates. If losses cluster in three or four topics, or in one paper, or in a pattern of method and unit errors running through everything, a group cannot address it however many hours you buy, because it cannot pause on one pupil's sign errors for twenty minutes.

Does IB Gram offer in-home IGCSE tutoring in Tilal Al Ghaf?+

No, and the comparison table on this page lists in-home delivery as a model we do not provide rather than pretending it does not exist. All UAE tuition is delivered live and one-to-one over video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are a service we run only in India. For a pupil who needs an adult physically present to stay on task, in-home is the right answer and we are the wrong provider, which we would rather say than sell you a format that cannot work.

What should I ask before paying any tutor in Dubai?+

Six things, in order. May I see your MoHRE private tuition permit? Which board, syllabus code and tier do you teach? Who teaches every session — one named person or whoever is available? What will the first session produce? What do I receive after each session? And do you make any promises about the outcome? The last one is a trick: a promise of a specific result is a reason to walk away, because nobody controls it. All six checks are free and take minutes.

Is an agency worth the margin it charges?+

Sometimes, and the thing you are paying for is the replacement process rather than the teaching. If a tutor is pleasant but wrong for your child, an agency usually has a defined way to change them, whereas a marketplace leaves you to start the search again and a freelance arrangement found through a community group has no process at all. Whether that is worth the margin depends on how much risk you want to carry yourself and how quickly you need a working arrangement.

Why should I check a tutor recommended by a Tilal Al Ghaf neighbour?+

Because the schools serving this community do not all use the same awarding body. Pupils attend the school inside Tilal Al Ghaf, schools in DAMAC Hills and Dubai Sports City, and others across Dubailand and Al Barsha South. Cambridge Chemistry 0620 and Edexcel 4CH1 examine similar chemistry with different paper structures, and in mathematics Edexcel permits a calculator in both papers while Cambridge's current structure does not. Ask your neighbour which code their child sits, then compare it with yours.

What does a Year 11 block cost across the different models?+

Take twenty weeks at two sessions a week, about forty hours. School intervention is included in fees. A tuition centre group class costs well below one-to-one totals. A budget online tutor at AED 45 to AED 150 an hour is roughly AED 1,800 to AED 6,000. A qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to AED 300 is roughly AED 6,000 to AED 12,000. A specialist at AED 200 to AED 450 and above is AED 8,000 to AED 18,000 or more. In-home at AED 180 to AED 500 is AED 7,200 to AED 20,000. Market figures, read October 2026.

Can I just buy two or three sessions to find out what we need?+

Yes, and we would rather you did that than commit to a term on a guess. A diagnostic block of two or three sessions establishes what the marked mock is actually telling you, with every lost mark categorised and a written recommendation at the end. Sometimes that recommendation is that school intervention plus timed practice will serve your child better than paid one-to-one. Reaching that conclusion with evidence after three sessions is a better outcome than reaching it after a term.

Which series will a Tilal Al Ghaf candidate sit?+

Cambridge runs June and November, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. The February and March series is offered to India only, so a UAE-facing page quoting a February window is describing a different country. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for the zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask the exams officer which zone applies.

Is a university student an acceptable IGCSE tutor?+

For lower secondary work and content reinforcement, often yes, and the budget band of roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour exists for that. University students are explicitly eligible for the MoHRE private tuition permit, so the arrangement is lawful when the permit is held. For Year 11 at the higher tier it is usually a false economy, because what you need is someone who can say where the mark scheme awards credit on a multi-step question, and that comes from teaching the specification rather than from having passed it.

What is the replacement process if a tutor is not working out?+

Ask before you commit, because the answer differs completely across the six models. With us it is a rematch: you say the first lesson or a later session did not work and we propose a different named tutor. With an agency there is usually a defined process. With a marketplace you begin the search again. With a freelance arrangement there is no process, only an awkward conversation with someone you may see at a community event. None of that is a reason to avoid any model, but it should be known in advance.

Will a provider give us past papers and mark schemes?+

They should not, and one offering a bundle of papers with answers is offering something it has no right to distribute. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and reproducing them is copyright infringement. What a tutor does is work through questions from legitimately obtained material and teach your child to read a mark scheme themselves, which changes how they write on every remaining paper in a way handed-over answers do not.

Can a tutor be my child's own teacher at their school?+

It is an arrangement to avoid. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to pupils enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar. Treat that as press-reported and verify it against the current ADEK document if it matters to your decision. Beyond the rules, it puts a teacher in the position of marking work they were paid to prepare, which serves nobody well.

How early can sessions start in this community?+

Four-thirty is realistic, which is unusual in the Dubailand belt. Because Tilal Al Ghaf has a school inside the boundary and DAMAC Hills and Dubai Sports City have their own provision next door, the school run is short and pupils are frequently home before four. That matters because a pupil at four-thirty has attention left, while the same pupil at seven has done a school day and two hours of homework. For online delivery the early slot is simply available; for an in-home tutor it would depend on their own drive.

Compare the models, then check the claims

Start with the free option and ask your child's school what intervention exists, because it is included in fees and guaranteed to be on the correct specification. Then have the most recent mock marked and categorised rather than scored, since evenly spread losses point to a group class while clustered losses point to one-to-one and unattempted sections may need nothing more than a timer. Then test whichever provider you are considering with six questions: the permit, the syllabus code, who teaches every session, what the first session produces, what you receive afterwards, and whether they offer any guarantee. Tilal Al Ghaf sessions run live and one-to-one over video at Gulf Standard Time. We make no home visits in the UAE and promise no grades.
