IB Physics Tutor in DAMAC Hills

An IB physics tutor in DAMAC Hills is usually wanted at one of two points: after the first full paper, or when the investigation deadline arrives and the laboratory timetable has closed. This page plans both. It sets out the topic order across two years, counts the investigation backwards from laboratory access, and says what eight weeks can fix. IB Gram teaches DAMAC Hills students live online, one to one, in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in DAMAC Hills

Physics has two deadlines and only one of them is the exam

Diploma physics generates enquiries at two predictable points in the calendar, and they need completely different work. The first is after a student's first full timed paper, usually late in the first year, when a result arrives that does not match the classroom impression. The second is the scientific investigation, whose deadline is set by the school and whose middle requires a laboratory.

The second of those is the one with no slack in it. An essay can be written at midnight. A physics investigation cannot be run at midnight, cannot be repeated once the laboratory timetable has closed, and cannot be rescued by working harder in the final fortnight. Its research question has to be settled while there is still room for a data run to fail, which in practice means a term before submission rather than a month.

The first is the one most often misdiagnosed. A student who understands physics in lessons and scores badly on papers has a technique problem rather than a comprehension problem, and more explanation will not shift it. What shifts it is writing physics in the forms the mark scheme pays for: causal chains in words, units converted before substitution, direction stated on every vector, and method visible rather than held in a calculator.

In DAMAC Hills there is a scheduling constraint on both. Secondary students here generally travel out of the community to school and arrive home after five, so sessions sit late and have to be shorter than a tired student can absorb at length. Sixty minutes twice a week works better than ninety minutes once, which matters more in physics than in most subjects because the work is written and tiring.

IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition live, one to one and online over video in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a DAMAC Hills address, and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. For physics the screen is a good working surface: graphs can be plotted and re-scaled live, uncertainty bars added and their effect on a gradient shown immediately, and a student's own data table marked against the criteria while they watch.

Availability is worth stating honestly on a physics page. Higher Level physics is a minority subject inside a Diploma cohort that is itself small, so the pool of tutors who have taught the extensions is thin across the whole emirate rather than in any one community. Where nobody suitable is free, the answer here is a stated wait or a referral rather than a general science tutor presented as a specialist.

Dubai Diploma students sit the May session. This page publishes no IB session or results dates, because none could be verified from the IB directly; confirm each one with the school's Diploma coordinator, who holds the internal deadlines that bind first in any case.

At a glance

  • Two enquiry points: the first timed paper, and the investigation deadline
  • The investigation is bounded by laboratory access, not by effort
  • Strong in class and weak on papers is technique, not comprehension
  • Sessions from 5.30pm, sixty minutes, twice a week rather than once
  • Confirm all IB dates with your school's Diploma coordinator
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages produce physics requests from this belt, and the calendar pressure in each is different in kind.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Mechanics, thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism, circular motion and gravitation, atomic and nuclear physics, energy production and an option topic, with Higher Level extensions throughout and a further written paper. The scientific investigation is internally assessed against published criteria and moderated.

Dubai students sit the May session, which places the investigation deadline and the mock window in the same stretch of the second year. DAMAC Hills families typically enquire once those have collided, which is workable but costs more per mark than acting during the first year.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

Integrated or separate sciences assessed against four criteria, each marked out of 8 and converted by published boundaries. Criterion wording carries as much weight as content, so a well-informed answer that ignores the strand named in the task scores in the middle band regardless of accuracy.

Students arriving at Diploma physics from MYP most often lack written explanation structure rather than content knowledge. A bridging block in MYP 5 on cause-and-effect writing and on rearranging formulae removes most of the first-term difficulty reported here.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics into the Diploma

Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 cover motion, forces, energy, waves, electricity, magnetism and nuclear physics. The step to Diploma physics is in mathematical demand and in the length of reasoning expected rather than in unfamiliar topics, which is why comfortable IGCSE students sometimes find Standard Level harder than expected.

A summer bridging block between Year 11 and Year 12 is the standard request from DAMAC Hills: rearrangement, unit handling and three-step explanation writing. Six sessions usually covers it and it is markedly cheaper than remediation in the second Diploma year.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics divides into a handful of demands, and each arrives at a predictable point in the two years. Each entry notes when the topic is taught and where its marks go.

Mechanics and kinematics

HL and SL

Taught first because everything builds on it. Motion graphs, equations of motion, forces, momentum and energy. Marks are lost to direction dropped from a vector and to sign conventions abandoned halfway through a problem rather than to the physics itself.

Thermal physics

HL and SL

Usually early to mid first year. Specific heat capacity, latent heat, gas laws and kinetic theory. The reliable loss is unit conversion: temperatures left in Celsius where kelvin is required, volumes in litres where cubic metres are needed, both mechanical and both repeating.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL

Mid first year, with Higher Level oscillation work later. Phase and path difference questions separate the grades. Diagrams drawn and then never referenced in the written answer lose the analysis marks they were meant to support.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

Late first year or early second. Current, potential difference, resistance, internal resistance and circuit analysis. The dominant loss is answering an explanation question with a formula where the scheme wants a chain of consequence in words.

Circular motion and gravitation

HL and SL

Second year, with Higher Level extending into potential and escape conditions. Students treat the force providing centripetal acceleration as an additional force, which adds a term and produces an answer that reads as carelessness rather than as a misconception.

Magnetism and induction

HL and SL

Second year, with induction and alternating current at Higher Level. Direction conventions are the whole difficulty: students who have not drilled the hand rules produce correct magnitudes with reversed directions, and the mark goes.

Atomic, nuclear and particle physics

HL and SL

Second year. Radioactive decay, nuclear energy, binding energy and fundamental particles. Energy-mass calculations lose marks to unit choice between joules and electronvolts and to rounding before the final step of a multi-stage answer.

Energy production

HL and SL

Often late and under-prepared because it feels descriptive. Energy sources, efficiency and Sankey diagrams. Efficiency questions still require the calculation to be set out rather than asserted, and the marks here are among the most accessible on the paper.

The option topic

HL and SL

Chosen by the school and taught late, which makes it the content most likely to be thinly covered before mocks. Worth establishing early which option the school teaches, because tutoring matched to the wrong one is wasted entirely.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

Spans the second year with a school-set deadline. Marked against published criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, with roughly half the marks concerning process and communication rather than the result.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all live online and one to one, each matched to a point in the two-year physics calendar.

First-year technique block

Six to eight sessions in the first Diploma year, after the first timed paper, spent on explanation structure, unit discipline and visible method. The cheapest useful physics block there is, because the habits it installs then earn marks on every paper for the next eighteen months.

  • Cause, mechanism, effect written as linked clauses
  • Unit conversion written before substitution, every time
  • Student marks their own work against the published scheme

Investigation process block

Six to eight sessions planned backwards from the school deadline and around laboratory access, covering research question, variable control, uncertainty handling and criterion self-review. The tutor teaches the criteria and reviews the student's own writing, and produces no part of the report.

  • Research question narrowed until the data collection is feasible
  • Uncertainty planned before the data is collected, not after
  • Feedback on the student's own draft only

Second-year paper block

Eight sessions in the second year built on timed paper sections and immediate mark-scheme review, with the Higher Level extra paper given the exposure it never otherwise gets. Used when content is largely covered and the loss is in technique or timing.

  • Paper sections sat to time, marked line by line
  • The extra Higher Level paper attempted early and repeatedly
  • Losses categorised and logged across weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in DAMAC Hills

01

What an IB physics tutor in DAMAC Hills is for

  • Delivery is live, online and one-to-one in Gulf Standard Time
  • The core skill is diagnosis from a marked script, not reciting physics
  • Calendar judgement: laboratory access, the option topic, the extra paper
  • No part of the investigation is written or produced for the student

An IB physics tutor in DAMAC Hills means one-to-one Diploma physics teaching arranged outside school for a student in the community, and IB Gram provides it live online over video in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a DAMAC Hills address; in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. In a community where the student has already made two journeys and is home after five, removing the tutor's two as well is the practical benefit.

The specific skill a family is buying is diagnosis from a marked script. That is narrower than knowing physics. It means recognising that a four-mark explanation scored two because it named the effect without the mechanism, that a correct calculation lost its last mark to a rounded intermediate value, and that a vector answer was marked down for having no direction. Those judgements come from having taught the course and marked its papers.

The second thing is calendar judgement, which on a physics page means knowing when each piece of work has to happen. The investigation's data collection sits inside the school's laboratory timetable. The option topic is taught late and is therefore thin before mocks. The Higher Level extra paper is first met in a mock unless somebody schedules it earlier. None of that is visible from a school report.

What is not provided is any help producing the investigation. A tutor explains the criteria, questions the variable control, discusses whether the data supports the conclusion, and gives feedback on what the student has written. Writing, completing or producing any part of the report is a malpractice finding against the student, and the deadline pressure that makes it tempting is exactly when it matters most to refuse.

02

Two years of physics in the order it is taught

Physics is taught in an order and the order matters for intervention timing. Mechanics comes first because the rest of the subject uses its vocabulary and its mathematics. Thermal physics and waves follow. Electricity arrives late in the first year or early in the second. Circular motion, gravitation, magnetism and nuclear physics occupy the second year, with the option topic and energy production often last.

Each stage assumes the one before it in a specific way. Everything after mechanics assumes vector handling and rearrangement. Circuits assume proportional reasoning. Induction assumes magnetic field direction conventions that were introduced earlier and rarely drilled. Nuclear calculations assume unit discipline across joules and electronvolts. None of those dependencies appears on a report, and all of them are checkable in minutes.

The practical consequence is that a weakness is cheapest to fix in the term it is taught and most expensive in the term before the papers. A student struggling with vectors in the first term of the first year has eighteen months in which the problem is still small. The same student discovered at the second-year mock has ten weeks and a syllabus to revise at the same time.

The table sets the sequence against what each stage assumes and what to check before moving past it. It is written to be used during the first Diploma year, when the checks cost nothing more than the five minutes it takes to ask a question and watch the hesitation.

03

The investigation, counted backwards from the laboratory

The internally assessed investigation is the component with the least flexible timeline in physics, because its middle requires apparatus, a room and a slot in the school's timetable. That single fact should drive the planning, and it almost never does: students plan from the submission date backwards through the writing and forget that the data collection has a queue in front of it.

Working backwards properly, the final week is formatting and a criterion check with no physics happening. The fortnight before that is analysis, uncertainty propagation and evaluation. Before that sits the data collection, which needs a booked slot and room for one failure. Before that is the research question, and that is where a block earns most of its value, because an unworkable question discovered during collection cannot be rescued.

Research questions fail in four predictable ways: too broad to answer in the space available, dependent on apparatus the school does not have, involving a variable that cannot practically be controlled, or producing data with so little variation that no conclusion is available. A specialist identifies all four in one conversation, which is why that conversation belongs a term before submission.

Uncertainty is the other thing best handled before the data rather than after. Deciding what will be measured, with what instrument and to what precision, determines the uncertainty that can later be propagated. Students who collect first and think about uncertainty afterwards frequently find they cannot evaluate their own method, which is where a substantial share of the available marks sit.

Term by term: what to fix when

  • Year one, term one: explanation structure, units, and any maths gap
  • Year one, terms two and three: content, plus one full timed paper
  • Year two, term one: the investigation, colliding with other deadlines
  • Year two, term two: mocks and the sorting of losses by cause
  • Year two, term three: triage, with explicit omissions

Set against the six terms of the Diploma, physics has an obvious order of work, and following it costs less than any other sequence. The first term of the first year is for explanation structure and unit discipline, because those habits then earn marks on every paper for the remaining eighteen months. It is also the term in which a mathematical weakness can be addressed before it compounds.

The second and third terms of the first year are for content with a first timed paper somewhere inside them. That first paper is the single most informative event of the first year and most students do not sit one. Ninety minutes of a weekend produces a diagnosis that a term of reports does not, and it can be arranged by a parent without any tutor involved.

The first term of the second year belongs to the investigation, whatever the school's precise deadline, and it collides with internal deadlines in other subjects. The second term is mocks and the fortnight of review afterwards. The third is triage, by which point the question is which marks are still reachable rather than which topics remain uncovered.

Against that shape, the common DAMAC Hills pattern — a first enquiry after second-year mock results — arrives at the start of triage. It is workable and a targeted eight-week block does real work there. It is simply more expensive per mark than the same money spent in the first year, which is the argument for a first-year diagnostic even when nothing appears to be wrong.

05

Before the mock and after it

Physics mocks are treated as weather and should be treated as a measurement that can be prepared for. Preparing for it changes it, and because predicted grades are informed by mock performance, the number matters beyond its diagnostic value. An eight-week block ending at the mock window is better value than the same block starting after it, and almost nobody buys the first version.

What that block should contain is largely determined by which paper types the student has never sat. At Higher Level the extra written paper is the usual answer: it is first met in the mock by most students, which means the mock measures unfamiliarity as much as physics. Attempting it twice before the mock, with marking in between, removes that distortion entirely.

Afterwards, the fortnight of review is the richest information in the course and is usually discarded. The method is to sort every lost mark by cause: content not known, content not retrieved under time, command term misread, working not shown, units or direction, question not attempted. The tally per subject names the next block, and it can be done by a parent and student at a kitchen table in an evening.

The common finding in physics is that mechanical causes dominate, which is good news because they are fast to fix. A student whose largest categories are units, direction and unwritten method does not need a content block; they need three or four weeks of deliberate habit work and some timed practice. That diagnosis is only available from the scripts, which is why they should come out of the bag.

06

The option topic, and why it is usually thin

  • Establish which option the school teaches, from the course outline
  • It is taught last and therefore thinnest before mocks
  • Schedule support during the second half of the pass, not after it
  • In a compressed plan it may be the right place to concede marks
  • Write the decision down so the student follows it without guilt

Every Diploma physics course includes an option topic chosen by the school, and it is routinely the most thinly covered content in the syllabus for a simple calendar reason: it is taught last, in the term where coursework deadlines and mock revision are already competing for attention. Students arrive at the papers having met it once, briefly.

The first practical step is to establish which option the school teaches, because tutoring matched to the wrong one is entirely wasted. That sounds obvious and it is a real failure: a student can be given weeks of support on an option their school does not cover, because nobody asked and the student assumed all options were taught. The answer is on the course outline the school issued at the start of the Diploma.

The second step is to schedule the option work for the second half of the school's teaching of it, when there is enough content for consolidation to be meaningful, rather than after it has finished. A block arriving after the single pass is doing repair, and repair takes longer than consolidation for the same result.

The third is to accept that in a compressed revision plan the option may be a place where marks are deliberately conceded. That is an uncomfortable recommendation and sometimes the right one: a student six weeks out with a weak option and three weak core topics will gain more from the core topics, because they are examined across more of the paper. Writing that decision down is what makes it a plan rather than an omission.

07

What eight weeks of physics can do

Eight weeks is the block most families ask about, and in physics it has a reasonably well-defined best use. It will change explanation structure, install unit and direction discipline, make method visible, and rebuild two or three specific topics. It will not cover the syllabus, and a provider accepting the booking on that basis has made a commercial rather than an educational decision.

Which eight weeks it should be depends entirely on the diagnosis, and the diagnosis comes from the scripts rather than from a conversation. If the losses are mechanical, three weeks on habits and five on two named topics. If the extra Higher Level paper is the problem, it is repeated exposure rather than teaching. If the obstacle is mathematical, the physics content is not where the block should start.

The mathematical case deserves its own note because it is so common. Rearrangement, indices, standard form and gradients run through mechanics, circuits and thermal physics identically, so a student who stalls at the same algebraic step in three topics has one problem rather than three. Twenty minutes of non-calculator manipulation will establish it, and where it is the finding, physics revision never reaches the real obstacle.

The table sets out what each diagnosis implies for the eight weeks, including what the block should state it will not attempt. Writing the omissions down is the part that makes a short block honest, and it is also what stops a student re-reading everything lightly out of guilt instead of drilling anything properly.

What physics support costs, by when you start

The published rates matter less than the starting date, but you need them in front of you to see why. At the university-student end Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, which is a rate that works when there is a year left and the problem is practice rather than diagnosis. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate places specialists at AED 200 to 450 and beyond, and BartyED publishes AED 650 for premium named tutors. In-home visiting is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors once travel is counted, which is relevant from DAMAC Hills, where the run out along Hessa Street is long enough that a tutor prices it. A family starting in DP1 can shop anywhere on that list. A family starting eight weeks before the mocks has already lost the bottom two thirds of it.

Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, with local packages advertised around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. All of these are provider-published figures read in October 2026, and none is IB Gram's price list.

For physics specifically, the budget band is a poor fit and it is worth saying so directly. A university student who passed physics can supervise homework. Reading a marked Higher Level script and identifying that a four-mark explanation scored two for naming the effect without the mechanism is a different skill, and it is the skill the enquiry is for. Paying the low rate for that work usually means paying twice.

The table arranges cost by starting point rather than by tier, because in physics the starting point determines what the money can reach. A first-year technique block at the qualified band costs a fraction of a second-year triage block at the exam-year band and does more, because the habits it installs then earn marks on every paper for the remaining eighteen months.

Availability, permits and the claims avoided

  • Higher Level physics availability is thin emirate-wide, not locally
  • Where no specialist is free: a stated wait or a referral, never a substitute
  • MoHRE private tuition permit: free, two years, Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • No board or regulator accreditation is held or claimed; no UAE office exists
  • No IB dates and no statistics published without verifiable sourcing

Higher Level physics is the hardest single match in this market, and that is a structural fact rather than a local one. It is a minority subject inside a Diploma cohort that represents 7% of Dubai private school pupils, so no community in this belt holds a surplus of tutors who have taught the extensions and marked the extended papers. Demand across every school also peaks in the same fortnight after mock results.

The policy here is to state the position rather than conceal it. Where a specialist is free they are proposed within a day with a trial lesson in the same week. Where none is free, the family is told, given a realistic wait and offered a referral. No competitor page found in this market discloses a coverage limit, though every provider has one, and concealing it moves the cost onto the student.

On the regulatory side, private tuition in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years to teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

IB Gram holds no International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or Ministry of Education approval or accreditation, claims none, and operates no office or centre in the UAE. Tutors are not described as examiners without evidence of current status, and examiner status is never presented as access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. No IB session date and no success statistic appears on this page, in both cases because neither could be verified in a form a reader could check.

Where we tutor

Physics scheduling across these communities

The physics is the same wherever a student lives. What differs is when they get home and therefore which session pattern holds through a term.

DAMAC Hills

A school inside the community, with many secondary students travelling out to Al Barsha, Jumeirah or the Ranches. Home after five, so two sixty-minute sessions a week work where one long evening session does not.

DAMAC Hills 2

Longer bus routes along the Dubai-Al Ain corridor. One weekday evening plus a weekend morning is the pattern that survives a full term here.

Mudon

Adjacent and younger, with MYP science the common request. Written explanation structure is the high-value work, and it transfers to every science the student later takes.

Arabian Ranches 3

Closer to DAMAC Hills than to the original Ranches, with Diploma demand growing from a low base. Requests here most often name the investigation.

Arabian Ranches and Ranches 2

The largest Diploma cohorts nearby, and still small in physics. Residents attending the local cluster are home earlier, which widens their session options.

Remraam and Dubailand Residence

Commutes near an hour each way. Online delivery is what makes a second weekly physics session possible at all during an exam year.

Town Square and Motor City

Town Square skews younger. Motor City students lose weekday evenings to training, which pushes physics blocks onto weekend mornings during a season.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the level and the marked scripts

'Physics HL, first Diploma year, last paper a 4' plus the script itself is enough to decide whether a specialist is available and what the block should target. The scripts show whether the losses are mechanical, mathematical or genuinely about content.

  2. 02

Establish the option topic and the investigation date

Two facts from the school's course outline and the Diploma coordinator. Tutoring matched to the wrong option is wasted entirely, and investigation work planned without the laboratory timetable in view tends to discover its data problem too late to fix.

  3. 03

    Diagnostic trial lesson

A full online session with the proposed specialist, spent sorting the lost marks on a script by cause and running twenty minutes of non-calculator manipulation. It ends with a written count of mechanical against conceptual losses. Nothing is committed.

  4. 04

    Mechanical habits before content

Where the diagnosis is mixed, the first weeks go to causal-chain writing, unit conversion and visible method, because those transfer across every topic at once and produce a visible change early. Content gaps follow, in order of how often they are examined.

  5. 05

    Review at four sessions

The target from session one is measured in writing. If the error log shows the same categories recurring, the diagnosis, the tutor or the frequency changes at no cost. In an exam year, making that call at the halfway point saves a month.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Planned on the two-year topic order

Physics is taught in a sequence and each stage assumes the last. A weakness in vectors or rearrangement is cheap to fix in the term it appears and expensive in the term before the papers, and nothing in a school report flags which dependency has failed.

The laboratory treated as the binding date

Investigation data collection sits inside the school's laboratory timetable and a failed run needs a slot to repeat it. Counting backwards with that constraint in view is what prevents unusable data being discovered in the fortnight when nothing can be done about it.

The option topic established first

It is chosen by the school and taught last, which makes it the thinnest content before mocks and the easiest thing to tutor wrongly. Confirming which option the course covers takes one question and prevents weeks of entirely wasted support.

The extra Higher Level paper scheduled early

Most students meet it for the first time in a mock, so the mock measures unfamiliarity as well as physics. Two attempts before the mock window, with marking in between, removes that distortion and changes a Higher Level profile more than extra content teaching does.

Honest about availability

Higher Level physics is a minority subject in a small cohort, so the specialist pool is thin across the emirate and tightest after mock results. Families are told, with a realistic wait or a referral, rather than matched to a general science tutor described as a specialist.

Scheduled for a student home after five

Sixty minutes rather than ninety, from 5.30pm or on a weekend morning, twice a week rather than once. Physics work is written and tiring, and online delivery is what makes the shorter, more frequent pattern practical rather than theoretical.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in DAMAC Hills: your questions answered

When should a Diploma physics student start the scientific investigation?+

Ten weeks or more before the school deadline, because the middle of it needs a laboratory slot and a failed data run needs another one. Counting backwards: the final week is formatting and a criterion check, the fortnight before is analysis and evaluation, and data collection sits six to eight weeks out with room for one failure. The research question comes before all of that, and an unworkable question discovered during collection cannot be rescued.

Does an IB physics tutor travel to DAMAC Hills?+

Not through IB Gram. All UAE lessons are delivered live online, one to one, over video in Gulf Standard Time, and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. For physics the screen is a good surface anyway: graphs can be plotted and re-scaled live, uncertainty bars added and their effect on a gradient shown immediately, and a student's own data table marked against the criteria while they watch it happen.

Why is my child's physics paper mark lower than their classwork suggests?+

Almost always because the written answers are not in the form the mark scheme pays for. An 'explain' question wants a chain — cause, mechanism, effect — and a correct formula earns nothing. Add temperatures left in Celsius where kelvin was needed, a vector given without direction, and method held in a calculator, and a competent student loses a grade's worth of marks mechanically. Sort the losses on the script by cause; the mechanical count is usually larger.

Which physics option topic does my child's school teach?+

Check the course outline the school issued at the start of the Diploma, or ask the teacher. It matters because the option is chosen by the school and tutoring matched to the wrong one is entirely wasted, which does happen when nobody asks and the student assumes all options are covered. The option is also taught last, so it is the thinnest content before mocks and the most likely to need consolidation rather than revision.

How early should the Higher Level extra paper be attempted?+

Early in the second Diploma year, and then again a few weeks later with marking in between. Most students meet it for the first time in a mock, which means the mock measures unfamiliarity as much as physics and produces a mark that misleads everybody. Two attempts beforehand remove the distortion. The skill being tested is partly tolerance for the opening minutes of an unfamiliar problem, and that is built by exposure rather than taught.

Can a tutor help write up the physics investigation?+

A tutor can teach the criteria, explain the mark ceiling attached to each, question the variable control, discuss whether the data supports the conclusion and give feedback on what the student has written. A tutor cannot write, complete or produce any part of it, whatever the deadline. That is an IB academic-honesty rule rather than a preference, and work a student did not produce becomes a malpractice finding against the student.

How much of my child's physics difficulty is actually mathematics?+

Often a large share. Rearrangement, indices, standard form and gradients run through mechanics, circuits and thermal physics identically, so a student who stalls at the same algebraic step in three topics has one problem rather than three. Twenty minutes of non-calculator manipulation establishes it: watch for hesitation rather than wrong answers. Where that is the finding, physics topic revision never reaches the real obstacle and the block should start upstream.

Is it better to book a physics block before or after the mocks?+

Before, and almost nobody does. Mocks are a measurement and preparing for a measurement changes it; because predicted grades are informed by mock performance, the number has consequences beyond diagnosis. An eight-week block ending at the mock window costs the same as one starting afterwards and reaches more, particularly at Higher Level where the extra paper can be attempted twice before it counts for anything.

Why is uncertainty handling worth a session of its own?+

Because deciding what to measure, with which instrument and to what precision determines the uncertainty that can later be propagated, and a substantial share of the investigation marks sit in analysis and evaluation. Students who collect data first and consider uncertainty afterwards frequently find they cannot evaluate their own method properly. Planning it before the laboratory slot costs one session and protects marks that cannot be recovered any other way.

What should a first-year physics student do with a bad paper result?+

Treat it as the most useful information of the year and sort it rather than being upset by it. Put every lost mark into a category: content not known, not retrieved under time, command term misread, working not shown, units or direction, question not attempted. If mechanical categories dominate, which in physics they usually do, the fix is three or four weeks of habit work rather than a content block, and it is cheap at that stage of the course.

How thin is Higher Level physics availability in Dubai?+

Thin, and thin everywhere rather than in one community. The IB accounts for 7% of Dubai private school pupils and Higher Level physics is a minority within that, so a school in this belt may have a handful of candidates in a year. Demand also peaks across every school in the same fortnight after mock results. Booking before that fortnight costs nothing to arrange and avoids most of the problem.

Can online physics lessons cover practical skills?+

The examined skills are largely written: variable control, apparatus and precision choice, tabulating data with units in the headings, identifying anomalies, propagating uncertainty and criticising a described method. All of that is teachable on a shared screen with real data, and plotting and re-scaling a graph live is easier there than on paper. Handling apparatus in a school laboratory remains the school's part of the work and no tutor replaces it in any format.

Is a Standard Level physics block shorter than a Higher Level one?+

Usually, because there is less syllabus and one fewer written paper, so a block covers proportionally more of the course in the same time. Standard Level blocks are often technique-led and can lift a grade relatively quickly. Higher Level blocks have to choose between covering extensions and drilling the unfamiliar extra paper, which is why the diagnosis matters more there and why stating the omissions is part of the plan.

What does a physics block cost across a Dubai exam year?+

Bestimate's published monthly estimates for weekly hour-long sessions put specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more a month and the mid band at AED 600 to 1,200. The hourly figures behind them run from AED 33 to 65 at the university-student end up to AED 650 for premium named tutors, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and TutorChase at AED 270. All are provider-published market rates read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices.

Send the level, the scripts and the investigation date

For an IB physics tutor in DAMAC Hills, the useful first message names the level, attaches the most recent marked scripts, and states the school's investigation deadline and which option topic the course covers. From those it is possible to say how many of the lost marks were mechanical, whether the real obstacle is mathematical, and whether the laboratory timetable still allows a data run to fail once. The trial lesson is a full diagnostic session delivered live online in Gulf Standard Time.
