IB Physics Tutor in Al Wasl

An IB physics tutor in Al Wasl is usually wanted for one of five reasons: fields, nuclear and quantum, a scientific investigation that has stalled, Paper 1B data questions, or a Higher Level student who understands the physics and still loses marks in the write-up. IB Gram matches your child to a Physics specialist and teaches one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the Al Wasl Road school run. The first lesson is a diagnostic one, and it is free.

IB & IGCSE in Al Wasl

Physics is where a strong Diploma student first meets a subject that will not reward effort alone

A parent in Al Wasl rarely searches for a physics tutor in September. The search happens in week six or week seven of the Diploma, when the first formal assessment comes back and the number is lower than anything the student saw in Year 11. The student has not stopped working. The subject has changed shape. IGCSE Physics asked for recall, a formula and a substitution. Diploma Physics asks what a quantity means, why a graph has that gradient, and what the uncertainty in the third significant figure does to the conclusion. A student can know every equation in the data booklet and still write a Paper 2 answer that earns two marks out of six.

The 2023 Physics guide, first examined in 2025, organises the course into five themes: A, space, time and motion; B, the particulate nature of matter; C, wave behaviour; D, fields; and E, nuclear and quantum physics. Higher Level students take the same five themes with additional content inside each. There is no separate options paper in this guide, which matters for tutoring: the old strategy of sacrificing the option and defending the core no longer exists. Everything is examinable, and the additional Higher Level material sits inside the themes rather than beside them.

The assessment is two written papers and one internally assessed scientific investigation. Paper 1 splits into 1A, multiple choice, and 1B, data and practical analysis. Paper 2 is short and extended response. The investigation is worth a fifth of the final grade and is marked by the school against four published criteria, then moderated by the IB. A student who neglects it is capping their grade before they sit a single paper, and this is the single most common pattern we see in Al Wasl households: a capable physicist with a weak investigation, discovered in February of the second year when there is very little room left to move.

Al Wasl sits between Al Safa and Jumeirah, with Al Wasl Road and Al Hadiqa Street carrying most of the local school traffic. Families here feed into Jumeirah College, Horizon English School, Safa British School, Latifa School for Girls and Jumeirah Baccalaureate School, with Dubai College, Raffles World Academy, Emirates International School Jumeirah and Kings' School Dubai all inside a short drive. Those schools between them run both the British route and the IB continuum, so an Al Wasl physics cohort is split: some students sitting Cambridge or Edexcel at 16, others moving through the Middle Years Programme into the Diploma. A physics tutor who does not know which route your child is on will waste the first three lessons finding out.

What we do about it is narrow and specific. A tutor is matched to the theme your child is losing marks in, not to a general science brief. The first session is diagnostic: a past-paper question under timing, marked in front of your child against the actual mark scheme, so you both see whether the problem is the physics, the maths inside the physics, or the way the answer is written. Lessons then run weekly over live video, one tutor, one student, in Gulf Standard Time. We do not send a tutor to an Al Wasl address; in-home visits are a service IB Gram runs only in India, and the comparison table further down this page sets out honestly what that choice costs and buys in Dubai.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Wasl families arrive at Diploma Physics from two directions, and a third group never reaches the Diploma at all. Here is what each programme asks of a physics student and what tutoring looks like inside it.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Physics is offered at Standard and Higher Level inside Group 4. Both levels sit Paper 1 and Paper 2 and complete the scientific investigation. Higher Level carries extra content in every theme, longer papers and a higher expectation of algebraic fluency. Students usually take Physics Higher Level alongside Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, because several Higher Level derivations assume calculus the Applications course does not cover in the same way.

In Al Wasl the Diploma physicists mostly come from Jumeirah Baccalaureate School, Raffles World Academy and Emirates International School Jumeirah. Those cohorts are small, which has a consequence parents rarely anticipate: a school may have one Physics Higher Level teacher and six students, so a single clash of personality or pace has nowhere to go inside the school. That is the most common reason an Al Wasl family looks outside it.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Sciences in the Middle Years Programme are assessed against four criteria: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. There is no formula sheet culture and no past-paper bank. Students write investigations from Year 7 onwards, which means a Middle Years student arrives at the Diploma with real experimental habits but often without the algebra speed the Diploma papers demand.

Middle Years to Diploma is the gentler of the two routes into Al Wasl physics, and the gap it leaves is numerical rather than conceptual. A Year 11 student from Jumeirah Baccalaureate School can design a fair test and evaluate a method well, then lose six marks on a Paper 2 question because rearranging an equation with three variables under timed conditions has never been drilled. Six to eight weeks of targeted algebra work before Diploma 1 closes most of it.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs at least two Diploma courses with a career-related study, so a student may take Physics Standard Level without the full Diploma. The subject content and assessment are identical to the Diploma version of that course, including the scientific investigation. Tutoring is the same work: themes, papers, investigation. What differs is the surrounding load, which is usually lighter and leaves more room for weekly physics practice.

The Career-related Programme is thinly offered in Dubai compared with the Diploma, so an Al Wasl family taking this route is often the only one in their circle doing it. Worth knowing before you plan tutoring around it: a Career-related Programme student sitting Physics Standard Level is examined exactly as a Diploma student is, so nothing about the physics timetable or the investigation deadline is relaxed on their behalf.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A physics problem is rarely only a physics problem. These are the subjects that sit around IB Physics in an Al Wasl timetable and the specific way each one shows up in a physics mark.

Physics

HL and SL

Themes A to E, with Higher Level extension inside each rather than as a separate option. Marks are lost most often in fields, where students describe a potential as though it were a force, and in nuclear and quantum, where the arithmetic of binding energy is fine but the explanation of mass defect is not.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The usual partner to Physics Higher Level. Differentiation, integration and the handling of logarithms are the three places where a physics answer stalls for mathematical rather than physical reasons. A student on Analysis and Approaches Standard Level taking Physics Higher Level is the combination that most often needs maths support inside physics lessons.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Perfectly viable alongside Physics Standard Level, and harder work alongside Higher Level. The course is strong on statistics and modelling and lighter on the algebraic manipulation that Higher Level derivations assume. We treat the gap directly rather than pretending it is not there.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Shares the Group 4 investigation structure and the same four assessment criteria, so a student who has learned to design one investigation properly can reuse the skill. Chemistry students taking Physics also benefit from transferable work on uncertainty propagation, which both subjects examine and neither teaches at length.

Biology

HL and SL

The common third science in Al Wasl timetables for medicine applicants. Biology trains description and recall; Physics punishes both when they replace explanation. Students holding both often need explicit coaching on the difference between a Biology-style descriptive answer and a Physics answer that must reason from a principle.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Taken by a small number of Al Wasl Diploma students alongside Physics, usually with engineering in mind. The useful overlap is logical decomposition: a student who can trace a program can usually be taught to break a multi-stage Paper 2 question into stages instead of attempting it in one leap.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Another Group 4 subject with a substantial internal component. Students combining it with Physics carry two large coursework loads in the same academic year, and the scheduling of those two deadlines is something we map in the first consultation rather than discovering in term two.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

Mechanics content here overlaps with theme A, so force, moment and energy work done for Physics pays twice. The investigation criteria are identical to the Physics ones, which makes it a sensible subject to practise research design on when physics data collection is blocked by lab access.

Environmental Systems and Societies

HL and SL

A Group 3 and Group 4 subject that can satisfy the science requirement for a student not continuing with Physics beyond Standard Level. Energy, flows and systems thinking carry across; the quantitative demand is lower, which is the point for a student whose strength is argument rather than algebra.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Not a science subject, but physics is the natural source of examples for it: measurement, uncertainty, the status of a model. Diploma students who use their own physics work in Theory of Knowledge essays tend to write sharper ones, and the reverse holds too, because explaining why a model is provisional improves Paper 2 evaluation answers.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways an Al Wasl physics student works with us, and the honest case for each. All three are delivered over live video, one tutor to one student, with the session recorded so the explanation can be replayed before a test.

Weekly theme repair

The standard pattern for a student mid-course. One 60 or 90-minute lesson a week, aimed at the theme currently failing, with a past-paper question set between lessons and marked before the next one. Most Al Wasl families run this for eight to twelve weeks, reassess, and either stop or move to a different theme.

  • Diagnostic first lesson against a real mark scheme
  • One theme at a time, finished before the next is opened
  • Marked written work between lessons, not just verbal feedback
  • Session recordings kept for revision

Scientific investigation coaching

A shorter, denser block for the internally assessed investigation. Four to six sessions spread across the research design, the data collection period and the write-up. The tutor reads what your child has produced and tells them which criterion is underserved and why. The work, the data and the words stay your child's throughout.

  • Research question narrowed until it is actually measurable
  • Uncertainty and significant-figure handling checked early, not late
  • Feedback mapped to the four published criteria by letter
  • No drafting, no editing to completion, no supplied data

Final-stretch paper technique

For the last eight to ten weeks before a session. The content work is largely done; the marks are in timing, command terms and the Paper 1B data questions students rush. Lessons become supervised practice: a paper under exam conditions, then the mark scheme line by line, then one targeted drill. Al Wasl families often add a second weekly slot in this phase.

  • Full papers under timing, marked against the published scheme
  • Command-term discipline: state, outline, explain, discuss
  • Paper 1B data and graph work drilled separately
  • A written list of the three errors that recur, revisited weekly

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Wasl

01

What an Al Wasl parent is actually asking when they search for an IB physics tutor

  • Content gap: usually theme D, fields, or theme E, nuclear and quantum
  • Mathematics gap: algebraic rearrangement, logarithms, calculus in Higher Level derivations
  • Technique gap: command terms, working shown, answers that describe instead of explain
  • Investigation gap: research design too broad, or evaluation left to the final night

The search phrase is about location; the problem almost never is. An IB physics tutor in Al Wasl is wanted because a specific part of the course has stopped working, and the useful first question is which part. In our Al Wasl enquiries the answer falls into one of four buckets: a content gap in fields or in nuclear and quantum physics; a mathematics gap that only shows up inside physics; a technique gap where the student knows the physics and writes an answer that does not earn the marks; or an investigation that has drifted past its internal deadline. Each of those needs a different tutor and a different number of weeks.

The distinction is worth drawing before you buy anything, because the four problems have very different price tags. A technique gap is often six lessons. A content gap across two themes is a term. A mathematics gap running underneath Higher Level Physics is longer than that and is cheaper to fix in a maths lesson than in a physics one. An investigation three weeks from the school's deadline is urgent, bounded and small. Families who diagnose first spend materially less than families who buy a general weekly slot and hope it lands on the right thing.

This is also why the neighbourhood matters less than the search suggests. A Higher Level Physics specialist who can take apart a fields question is a rare match in any one district of Dubai, and insisting that person also lives within a twenty-minute drive of Al Wasl Road shrinks the pool to whoever is nearby rather than whoever is right. Teaching over live video removes the constraint entirely: your child gets the specialist, and the only local variable left is what time the lesson starts.

So the honest answer to the search is that we do not have a physics tutor who lives in Al Wasl, and we do not think you should want one. What we have is a matching process that starts with your child's last marked paper, identifies which of the four problems you actually have, and puts the right specialist in front of them over video within a few days.

02

The five themes of the current Physics guide, and which ones cost Al Wasl students marks

The 2023 Physics guide, first examined in 2025, replaced the old core-plus-option structure with five themes taken by every student. Higher Level content sits inside each theme as additional material rather than in a separate paper. For a tutor this is a real change in strategy: there is no option to triage, and a weakness in one theme is now spread across both written papers instead of being concentrated in one.

In practice the themes are not equally difficult, and the pattern is consistent enough to plan around. Theme A, space, time and motion, is where most students start comfortably, because it extends mechanics they met at 16. Theme B, the particulate nature of matter, is where thermal physics and the gas laws produce arithmetic slips rather than conceptual failure. Theme C, wave behaviour, is largely well taught and well revised. Theme D, fields, is the one that separates grades: gravitational, electric and magnetic fields are taught in sequence and examined together, and students who learned them as three unrelated topics cannot answer a question that crosses between them. Theme E, nuclear and quantum physics, is last in most schemes of work and therefore the least revised, which is why it so often appears in a student's weakest paper.

The table below is how we triage a new Al Wasl student. We ask for the last two marked assessments, locate the lost marks by theme, and start with whichever theme is both weak and heavily examined. That is almost always D, and the second most common answer is E, for timetable reasons rather than difficulty ones.

One note on sequencing. A student in the second Diploma year who is weak in theme D should not begin with theme E even though E feels more alarming. Fields underpin the quantum material, and six weeks on D usually improves E marks without E being taught at all. Starting with the frightening topic rather than the foundational one is the most common self-directed revision error we see.

Paper 1, Paper 2 and the weightings that decide the final grade

Physics in the current guide is examined by two written papers plus the internally assessed scientific investigation. Paper 1 has two parts: 1A is multiple choice, 1B is a data and practical analysis section. Paper 2 is short and extended response. The investigation carries a fifth of the grade. Higher Level papers are longer and carry additional content, but the proportional split between examination and internal assessment is the same at both levels. Confirm the exact durations and mark totals for your child's session against the subject guide held by their school's IB coordinator, because the guide is the authority and a tutor's recollection is not.

The practical consequence of this structure is that Paper 1B is badly underweighted in most students' revision. It is a data section: graphs, gradients, error bars, uncertainty, a conclusion drawn from numbers the student did not generate. Students revise content for Paper 2 and multiple choice for 1A, then meet 1B with no dedicated practice at all. It is also the part of the examination that most resembles the scientific investigation, so work done for one pays into the other. We treat 1B as a separate skill with its own weekly drill rather than as a sub-section of Paper 1.

The second consequence is about command terms. A Paper 2 question that says state wants one line and gives one mark. A question that says explain wants a causal chain and will not accept a description however accurate. A question that says discuss expects more than one position. Al Wasl students arriving from a British Year 11 are frequently excellent at describing and have never been taught the difference, which is why their marks sit a band below their understanding. This is the fastest improvement available on the whole page: a student who learns to read the command term properly can gain marks within a fortnight without learning any new physics.

The third is timing. Higher Level Paper 2 is long, and students who answer in the order printed spend their freshest forty minutes on questions worth fewer marks. We teach a pass-order strategy, practise it under timing, and review the script for marks lost to running out of time as a separate category from marks lost to not knowing something.

04

The six physics errors we see most often in this part of Dubai, and what each one is really telling you

  • Untranslated word problems: no annotation, no listed quantities, no named principle
  • Description where explanation was asked for, which earns no explanation marks
  • Units dropped in a cramped working layout rather than through carelessness
  • Uncertainty recorded then ignored in the conclusion
  • Graphs plotted without knowing what the gradient means physically
  • The scientific investigation treated as a write-up rather than a design problem

Marks lost in physics are diagnosable. After the first marked paper a tutor can usually name the underlying cause from the pattern of errors, and the cause is frequently not the one the student assumes. A student who says they are bad at fields is often a student who cannot rearrange an equation at speed, which looks like a physics problem only because fields questions require three rearrangements where mechanics questions require one.

The first error is the untranslated word problem. The student reads a question, cannot see which principle applies, and writes nothing for four minutes. The cause is not knowledge but a missing habit: they have never been taught to annotate the stem, list the given quantities with units, and name the principle before touching a number. Twenty minutes of explicit instruction and three weeks of enforcement fixes it.

The second is the described answer. The question says explain and the student describes what happens, accurately and at length, without ever saying because. Examiners cannot award explanation marks for description. The third is the lost unit, which costs a mark at a time and is almost always a working-layout problem rather than carelessness: students who write quantities in a column with units attached stop losing them. The fourth is uncertainty treated as decoration, carried into a conclusion that claims a precision the data cannot support. The fifth is the graph drawn without thought about what its gradient physically represents. The sixth, and the most expensive, is the investigation treated as a report to be produced rather than as an inquiry to be designed.

None of this is remedied by more content teaching. A student who has seen theme D twice does not need a third pass; they need a diagnosis, a specific habit installed, and enough marked practice to make the habit survive exam pressure. This is the main reason we insist that written work between lessons comes back marked rather than discussed, because a habit that has not been tested on paper has not been installed.

05

The scientific investigation: a fifth of the grade, four criteria, and the places it goes wrong

The internally assessed scientific investigation is an independent piece of experimental work, written up by the student and marked by the school against four published criteria before IB moderation. It is worth a fifth of the Physics grade at both Standard and Higher Level. Your child's school sets the internal deadlines and holds the current criterion descriptors and word limit; ask the IB coordinator for both in writing at the start of the Diploma rather than in February of the second year.

The most expensive failure happens in week one, not week ten. A research question that is too broad cannot be answered with the equipment available, and no amount of good data analysis rescues it. We have read investigations that measured something carefully and well and could not score in the top band for research design because the question asked about a relationship the method could not isolate. A single thirty-minute conversation at the research-question stage is worth more than three sessions at the write-up stage, which is why we push Al Wasl families to book investigation support early and short rather than late and long.

The second failure is evaluation written as apology. Students list what went wrong and promise to be more careful next time. The criterion wants a reasoned assessment of the method's limitations and their effect on the conclusion, with improvements that are specific and would actually work. The third is a conclusion that restates the data rather than interpreting it against accepted physics. The fourth is uncertainty handled correctly in the data table and then forgotten in the final sentence.

What a tutor may do here is bounded, and we would rather state the boundary plainly than leave it vague. A tutor can teach experimental design, interrogate a research question, explain how to propagate an uncertainty, and give feedback on a draft your child has written. A tutor must never supply data, never write any portion of the report, and never edit text to the point where the words are no longer the student's. The IB treats breaches of academic honesty as malpractice and the consequence falls on the student, not the tutor. Any provider offering to produce a finished investigation is selling your child a risk they have not been told about.

SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION: THE FOUR CRITERIA AND THE COMMON FAILURE IN EACH
CriterionWhat the examiner is looking forThe common failureWhat a tutor may legitimately do

What physics tutoring costs in this part of Dubai, read as a monthly figure rather than an hourly one

Most tutoring pages quote an hourly rate, which is the least useful number for planning a household budget. An Al Wasl family does not buy an hour; they buy a term. So start from the month. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts monthly spend for weekly one-hour sessions at roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published monthly packages in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Those monthly figures come from hourly bands that are worth seeing separately. Budget online tutoring, typically a university student, runs about AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online sits roughly AED 150 to 300; Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. An in-home one-to-one visit, travel included, runs about AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors AED 200 to 500. A genuine IB, IGCSE or A Level specialist is AED 200 to 450 and upward, with TutorChase listing AED 270 and Bestimate AED 200 to 450 or more. Premium named or examiner-linked tutors reach AED 500 to 650, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

Every one of those numbers belongs to the provider named beside it and was read from their own published material in October 2026. None of them is an IB Gram price. We do not publish a rate card on these pages because the number depends on level, on how many weeks you need and on whether the work is theme repair or investigation coaching, and a figure printed here would be wrong for most of the families who read it. The trial lesson is free with no card required, and the consultation that follows gives you a specific figure for your child before you commit.

The useful planning move is to decide the monthly number first and let it determine the format. A household with AED 700 a month to spend on physics can buy a weekly hour with a qualified online subject tutor for a full term, or two in-home visits. Which of those is better depends entirely on whether the bottleneck is contact time or specialist expertise, and in Higher Level Physics it is almost always expertise.

Online physics lessons against an in-home physics tutor on the Al Wasl corridor

This page targets a phrase parents type, so the honest position comes first: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Al Wasl or anywhere else in the UAE. In-home visiting is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, and we would rather you knew that in paragraph one than in week three. What follows is the case for that choice on its merits, and the places where an in-home tutor genuinely wins.

For a subject like physics the argument is mostly about the tutor pool. A Higher Level fields specialist who can mark to the current guide is uncommon. Requiring that person to be within driving distance of Al Wasl Road at 17:00 on a Tuesday reduces your choice to whoever is nearby and free, which in practice means a general science tutor rather than a physics one. Over video the constraint disappears and the only remaining question is the time of day. For theme D, that trade is not close.

There are practical gains too. A recorded lesson can be replayed the night before a test, which an in-home lesson cannot. Screen-sharing a past paper and annotating the mark scheme live is clearer than two people over one sheet of paper. Graph work, simulations and data analysis are all easier on a shared screen than on a dining table. And a cancelled slot can be moved rather than lost, because nobody has driven anywhere.

The honest counter-case: a younger student who will not sit still without an adult physically present is better served in person, and a household with unreliable connectivity should not pretend otherwise. Al Wasl is well served for fixed-line broadband, so the second rarely applies, and for Diploma-age students the first rarely does either. If your child is twelve and easily distracted, an in-home tutor from a local agency may genuinely suit them better, and we would say so on a call rather than sell you something that will not work.

The regulator, the tutor permit, and what an Al Wasl parent can verify before paying

Dubai's private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall to the Department of Education and Knowledge, Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah to the federal Ministry of Education. If your child's school is in Dubai, every inspection rating and fee decision that affects them comes from the first of those.

Private tutoring itself is governed separately, by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced through Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. u.ae states the permit is granted free of charge for two years, and that eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are, in u.ae's words, subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any page quoting you an amount is guessing.

Two things follow for a parent in Al Wasl. The permit is free, so a tutor who tells you their fee reflects licensing costs is mistaken. And the permit is a real document you may ask to see. The official application route is the Ministry's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit for Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the Ministry's smart app, website and e-services system. Ask any prospective tutor, including ours, whether they hold it, and ask the question before the first paid lesson rather than after.

A note on what we are not. IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, by the Ministry of Education, by the International Baccalaureate or by any examination board, and no page on this site should be read as saying otherwise. A Dubai operation with premises and staff needs a Knowledge and Human Development Authority Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a specific permission issued to a specific address. We do not hold one and we do not operate premises in the UAE. Anyone claiming regulator approval for a tutoring platform should be asked for the permit number.

Starting physics tutoring mid-year, and what happens if the specialist you need is not free

  • Bring two marked assessments and one unfinished past-paper question to the free first lesson
  • Mid-year starts work backwards from the school's internal deadlines
  • Higher Level Physics is our scarcest UAE match in the 16:00-18:00 window
  • Ramadan timings planned in advance, not rescheduled weekly
  • Tutor changed on request after the first or second paid lesson

Most Al Wasl physics enquiries arrive mid-term, which is the right time rather than a late one. A student six weeks into a theme they do not understand is a better tutoring prospect than a student in September with no data: there is a marked paper to diagnose from and a specific, recent failure to work on. What changes mid-year is the sequencing. A tutor joining in January works backwards from the school's internal deadlines, not forwards from the start of the syllabus.

The first session is diagnostic and free, and it is a lesson rather than a sales call. Your child brings their two most recent marked assessments and a past-paper question they could not finish. The tutor works the question with them, marks it against the published scheme, and at the end tells you which of the four problem types you have and roughly how many weeks it should take. If the answer is that physics is not the bottleneck, we say that too. We have sent families to a maths tutor instead more than once, because Higher Level Physics marks lost to algebra do not improve with physics teaching.

Availability is where most platforms go quiet, so here is the position stated. Physics Higher Level specialists are our scarcest subject-level match in the UAE, especially for a fixed weekday slot between 16:00 and 18:00 Gulf Standard Time, which is when everybody wants one. If the right specialist is not free at the time you need, we will tell you the actual wait rather than put a general science tutor in the slot. If the wait is longer than a fortnight we will say so and you should consider another provider, because an exam-year student cannot afford to hold a slot open on a promise.

Two further practicalities. Ramadan shifts household routines and many families move physics to a post-Iftar slot for that period; we plan this in advance rather than rescheduling week by week. And if the match is not right, say so after the first or second paid lesson and we will change the tutor rather than ask your child to persist with someone they do not learn from. A physics tutor your child does not want to talk to cannot teach them to explain anything.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Wasl

Al Wasl is a corridor rather than a compound, and that shapes when a physics lesson can realistically begin. These are the neighbourhoods we schedule around, with what each one does to a weekday evening.

Al Wasl

Villa communities along Al Wasl Road and Al Hadiqa Street, feeding Jumeirah College, Horizon English School and Safa British School. A student finishing at 15:15 is usually home by 15:45, so a 16:30 physics lesson is comfortable on most weekdays.

Al Safa

Directly south, sharing the same secondary schools and the Al Safa Park frontage. Families here often have two children in different year groups at the same school, which makes back-to-back sibling slots at 16:00 and 17:15 the common booking pattern.

Jumeirah 1

Closest to Jumeirah Baccalaureate School and the coast road. Diploma students here are more likely to be on the IB continuum than the British route, so physics work starts from Middle Years Sciences habits rather than from an IGCSE specification.

Jumeirah 2

Mid-Jumeirah, between Al Wasl Road and Beach Road. The practical consideration is after-school sport: swimming and football squads at the Jumeirah schools train until 17:00, which pushes physics to 18:00 or to a Saturday morning.

Jumeirah 3

Furthest along the coast before Umm Suqeim, serving Jumeirah English Speaking School and Emirates International School Jumeirah. The Beach Road run at 15:00 is slow, so first lessons here are set at 16:45 rather than 16:00 until the family tells us otherwise.

Al Manara

Inland from Umm Suqeim and close to Kings' School Dubai and Raffles World Academy. A smaller physics population, and the one where we most often match a Higher Level specialist who is not available anywhere nearby in person.

Umm Suqeim

Home to Kings' School Dubai and within reach of Dubai College. Students here are predominantly on the British route, so a physics enquiry from Umm Suqeim is as likely to be Edexcel International A Level as it is Diploma, and we check first.

City Walk and Pearl Jumeira

Apartment-dense and newer, with children distributed across more schools than the villa districts. Commutes are short but varied, so we fix the lesson slot to the school's finish time rather than to a neighbourhood default.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Wasl

Where Al Wasl physics students actually sit their lessons

These are the schools whose Physics departments we see most often in Al Wasl enquiries. The split matters: the first three run the British route to IGCSE and then A Level, while Jumeirah Baccalaureate School runs the IB continuum through to the Diploma. A tutor needs to know which specification is on the desk before the first lesson, not after it.

  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • Horizon English School, Al Safa
  • Safa British School
  • Latifa School for Girls, Al Safa
  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School, Al Safa
  • Jumeirah Primary School, Al Safa

Diploma Physics within a short drive of Al Wasl

For Higher Level Physics specifically, the relevant cohorts sit slightly further out. These schools run the Diploma or a sixth form with substantial physics numbers, and students from them make up most of our Al Wasl Higher Level matches. Group sizes in Diploma Physics at these schools are typically small, which is why outside support is common rather than exceptional.

  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Raffles World Academy, Umm Suqeim
  • Dubai College, Al Sufouh
  • Kings' School Dubai, Umm Suqeim
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Jumeirah
  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh

Schools are named here as the local education context an Al Wasl family is choosing within; IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from or commercial relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the last two marked papers

Not a description of the problem, the actual scripts. A marked Paper 2 attempt tells a physics tutor more in four minutes than a twenty-minute phone call does, because the pattern of lost marks is visible and the student's self-diagnosis usually is not accurate.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic lesson, free, no card

Sixty minutes with a Physics specialist. Your child works a question under light timing, the tutor marks it live against the published scheme, and you get a named problem type and a week estimate at the end. If physics is not the bottleneck we will tell you what is.

  3. 03

Agree the block and the slot

A specific number of weeks aimed at a specific theme or at the scientific investigation, with a fixed weekly time in Gulf Standard Time. You get the quote for that block before anything is paid, and blocks are bought as blocks rather than as open-ended retainers.

  4. 04

Weekly lesson plus marked written work

One tutor, one student, over live video, recorded. Work set between lessons comes back marked rather than discussed, because a habit that has not been tested on paper has not been installed. You see the marking, not a summary of it.

  5. 05

Review at the end of the block

We compare the marks before and after on comparable questions, and recommend stopping, switching theme, or continuing. Stopping is a normal outcome and we say it when it is true. A student who has fixed theme D does not need a standing physics appointment.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by theme, not by district

The match is made on which part of the Physics guide your child is losing marks in. A fields specialist and a quantum specialist are different people, and neither needs to live near Al Wasl Road to teach your child well over video.

The investigation boundary is written down

We teach design, analysis and evaluation and give feedback on your child's own draft. We do not supply data, produce text or edit a report to completion. The boundary is on this page so you can hold us to it.

No price invented for this page

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider that published it, with the month it was read. We quote your child's figure after the free trial, when it can be based on their level and the number of weeks they actually need.

No regulator claimed as an endorsement

We name the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and explain what each does. None of them approves, accredits or licenses IB Gram, and we do not imply otherwise.

Availability stated honestly

Higher Level Physics in the late-afternoon Gulf Standard Time window is our scarcest match. If the right specialist cannot take your slot we tell you the real wait rather than substituting a general science tutor and hoping you do not notice.

Recorded lessons and marked scripts

Every session is recorded and every piece of written work comes back annotated. In the fortnight before a paper, being able to replay the explanation of induction at 21:00 is worth more than the lesson felt at the time.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Wasl: your questions answered

How much does an IB Physics tutor cost for a family in Al Wasl?+

There is no single figure, and any page giving you one without asking your child's level is guessing. The Dubai market, read from published provider pages in October 2026, runs about AED 45 to 150 an hour for budget online tutoring, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and AED 200 to 450 or more for a genuine IB specialist. TutorChase publishes AED 270; BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. Those are their rates, not ours. IB Gram quotes your figure after the free diagnostic lesson, because it depends on level, on theme and on how many weeks you actually need.

Which IB Physics theme causes the most trouble for Diploma students?+

Theme D, fields. Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields are usually taught in sequence and then examined together, so a student who learned them as three separate topics cannot answer a question that crosses between them. The specific error is using field strength and potential interchangeably. Theme E, nuclear and quantum physics, generates nearly as many lost marks, but for a timetable reason rather than a difficulty one: it is taught last and therefore revised least. If your child is weak in both, start with D, because fields underpin the quantum material and improving D often lifts E marks without E being taught.

Is IB Physics Higher Level much harder than Standard Level?+

The difference is less about extra topics and more about algebraic fluency and depth within the same five themes. Higher Level adds content inside each theme rather than as a separate paper, and the papers are longer. In practice the students who struggle at Higher Level are usually not the ones with weak physics intuition but the ones whose equation handling is slow under time pressure. That is why we check the mathematics before assuming the physics is the problem, and why a student on Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation taking Physics Higher Level needs that gap addressed explicitly rather than hoped away.

Can a tutor help my child with the IB Physics scientific investigation?+

Yes, within a boundary we will state plainly. A tutor can interrogate the research question until it is actually measurable, teach experimental design, explain how to propagate uncertainty, and give feedback on a draft your child has written against the four published criteria. A tutor must never supply data, never produce any part of the report and never edit the text until the words stop being your child's. The IB treats breaches as malpractice and the consequence lands on the student. Any provider offering a finished investigation is selling a risk your child has not been told about.

Does IB Gram send a physics tutor to our home in Al Wasl?+

No. IB Gram does not provide in-home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time and recorded so your child can replay it. For Higher Level Physics specifically that is an advantage rather than a compromise, because it means the match is made on which theme your child is losing marks in rather than on who happens to be free and within driving distance of Al Wasl Road at five in the afternoon.

What time can a physics lesson start for a student at Jumeirah College or Horizon English School?+

Most Al Wasl students finishing around 15:15 are home by 15:45, so 16:30 works comfortably on a normal weekday. Two things push it later. After-school sport at the Jumeirah schools often runs to 17:00, which moves the lesson to 18:00. And a sibling in a different year group may finish at a different time, which is why back-to-back slots at 16:00 and 17:15 are a common booking pattern here. Lessons can run as late as 20:00 Gulf Standard Time, and during Ramadan many families move to a post-Iftar slot by arrangement rather than week by week.

My child understands physics but keeps losing marks on Paper 2. What is happening?+

Almost always a command-term problem. A question that says explain requires a causal chain and will not accept a description, however accurate. A question that says state wants one line. Students arriving from a British Year 11 are frequently excellent at describing and have never been taught the distinction, so their marks sit a band below their understanding. This is the fastest improvement available: a fortnight of explicit command-term work on marked past-paper questions typically moves a grade boundary without any new physics being learned. The second candidate is pass-order strategy on a long Higher Level paper.

Why does nobody revise Paper 1B, and does it matter?+

It matters a great deal and it goes unrevised because it does not look like content. Paper 1B is data and practical analysis: graphs, gradients, error bars, uncertainty and a conclusion drawn from numbers the student did not generate. Students revise content for Paper 2 and multiple-choice technique for 1A, then meet 1B cold. It also closely resembles the scientific investigation, so practice pays into a fifth of the grade as well. We drill it as its own weekly skill rather than as a sub-section of Paper 1, which is the single cheapest mark gain on most physics plans.

Does my child need Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches to take Physics Higher Level?+

Schools set their own prerequisites, so check with your child's Diploma coordinator. In practice, several Higher Level Physics derivations assume calculus handled the way Analysis and Approaches handles it, and students taking Physics Higher Level with Applications and Interpretation frequently need maths support delivered inside their physics lessons. That is a workable combination rather than a doomed one, but it needs to be planned for in Diploma 1 rather than discovered in Diploma 2. If the algebra is the bottleneck, a maths tutor is cheaper and faster than more physics teaching.

Is it worth starting physics tutoring ten weeks before the exam session?+

Yes, but for different work than you might expect. Ten weeks is not enough to re-teach two weak themes and should not be spent trying. It is enough to drill paper technique, command terms and Paper 1B data questions, and to make sure revision time is allocated by weighting rather than by comfort. Students at this stage usually gain more from supervised full papers marked against the published scheme than from further content teaching. We would set out that plan in the free first lesson and tell you honestly if the realistic gain looks small.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit, and can I check ours has one?+

Yes to both. The private tuition work permit was introduced through Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published. Ask any tutor to confirm they hold it before the first paid lesson.

Is IB Gram approved by KHDA to tutor physics in Dubai?+

No, and we will not imply it. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority regulates Dubai's private schools and issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes that operate premises in the emirate. IB Gram does not hold that permit and does not operate premises in the UAE. We are not approved, accredited or licensed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Ministry of Education, the International Baccalaureate or any examination board. If a tutoring provider tells you it is regulator-approved, ask for the permit number and the address it was issued to.

What should I bring to the first physics lesson to make it useful?+

Two marked assessments and one past-paper question your child could not finish. The marked work is what lets a tutor diagnose rather than guess, because the pattern of lost marks is visible on the page and a student's own account of the problem is usually inaccurate. The unfinished question gives the tutor something to work live, which is how you find out whether the block is the physics, the algebra inside it, or the way the answer is written. Nothing else is needed and no preparation is required from your child.

What happens if no Physics Higher Level specialist is available at the time we need?+

We tell you the real wait instead of filling the slot with a general science tutor. Higher Level Physics between 16:00 and 18:00 Gulf Standard Time is our scarcest UAE match, because that is the hour every family wants. If the wait runs beyond a fortnight we will say so and suggest you look elsewhere, since an exam-year student cannot hold a slot open on a promise. Where a UAE-based specialist is not available, the alternative we offer is a specialist in another time zone teaching at a Gulf Standard Time slot, disclosed to you before you book.

Can one tutor cover both Physics and Chemistry for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking about rather than assuming. Both subjects sit in Group 4 and share the same four investigation criteria, so one tutor coaching both internal assessments is efficient and coherent. Content teaching is different: a genuine Higher Level Physics specialist is usually not also a Higher Level Chemistry specialist, and a tutor who claims both at Higher Level deserves a question about which they taught longer. For Standard Level across both, a single well-qualified science tutor is often the better value, and we will say which applies in your case.

Start with the marked paper, not the enquiry form

If your child is losing physics marks in Al Wasl, the fastest useful step is to send us their last two marked assessments and one past-paper question they could not finish. We will put a Physics specialist in front of them for a free sixty-minute diagnostic lesson over live video, mark the question live against the published scheme, and tell you which of the four problem types you have and how many weeks it should take. If the bottleneck turns out to be algebra rather than physics, or if the honest answer is that ten weeks will not move much, we will say that instead of selling you a term of lessons.
