IB MYP Standard Mathematics Tutor in Dubai

Most families looking for an IB MYP standard mathematics tutor in Dubai want a number before they want a method. Published rates in this emirate run from about AED 45 an hour on budget online platforms to AED 450 and beyond for subject specialists, with in-home visits quoted between AED 180 and AED 500. Every figure on this page carries the provider or survey that published it. Then we show the arithmetic that actually decides your bill: the year, the criterion, the session length and how late you start.

  • Every AED figure attributed to the source that published it, read October 2026
  • Rate bands shown against what each band buys a standard-route student
  • Lessons delivered online over live video, never at a UAE address
  • A free 45-minute trial lesson, one per family, no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The number first, then the arithmetic behind it

Three of the six highest-ranking pages for tutoring searches in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no Dubai family pays in. So this page starts with dirhams. Rate surveys and provider pages read in October 2026 put budget online tutoring at AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, qualified subject tutors online at AED 150 to AED 300, in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to AED 350 with individual listings reaching AED 500, and specialist International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tutors at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. One named provider publishes AED 650. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Those are market rates and they belong to the providers and surveys that published them, not to us. IB Gram does not publish a price list on these pages, because a number quoted next to sourced competitor figures invites a comparison that is not like for like: our model is a free trial lesson, then a quote for a named target against a named tutor. What this page can do honestly is show you which band a standard-route Middle Years maths request falls into and what makes the quote move inside it.

The second half of the question is the one nobody answers: how many hours. A rate is useless without a quantity, and a provider happy to tell you AED 220 an hour and unwilling to estimate the number of sessions is selling you an open-ended commitment. For standard-route Middle Years mathematics the realistic answers are narrow. A habit fix on notation is three or four sessions. An investigation or modelling block is three to five against a deadline. An inherited gap in fractions or proportional reasoning is four to six. A full year of weekly consolidation in MYP 4 or 5 is twenty-eight to thirty-two sessions once assessment weeks and travel are deducted.

The standard route itself is widely misunderstood as the cheaper problem. It is not. Standard covers the same four branches of the framework as extended, to the depth the standard course specifies, and it is the route into Applications and Interpretation at Diploma level, which is a serious mathematics course. What differs is pace and the additional content extended carries. Where standard-route students are quoted less, it is usually because the tutor pool is wider, not because the teaching is easier.

Dubai gives this conversation an unusual backdrop. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under a Dubai economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. In a city with 227 private schools and 387,441 private school pupils in 2024-25, a frozen fee line changes where the discretionary education budget goes, and tutoring is the usual beneficiary. That is worth knowing before a provider tells you demand has pushed rates up.

The rest of this page is the arithmetic: the rate bands and what each buys, the five variables that move a quote in this emirate, the yearly totals for three plan shapes, what the standard route actually covers, where families here waste money, and what to put in writing before paying anyone. Lessons themselves are online, one-to-one, over live video; IB Gram does not arrange home visits in Dubai, and home tutoring is a service we offer only in India.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What a family pays across the school years depends on which stage the support sits in, because the hours each stage needs differ sharply. Here is the sequence a Dubai standard-route student travels, costed in hours rather than promises.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Tutoring demand in the primary years is low and should be. Primary mathematics is reported in commentary rather than criterion marks, and most apparent gaps at this stage close without paid help. Where support is genuinely useful it is short and specific: a handful of sessions on fractions, negative numbers or multiplicative reasoning, which are the three fluencies Year 7 assumes from day one and the three most likely to resurface expensively in Year 9.

Dubai families often buy primary tutoring as insurance ahead of a competitive secondary admission, which is a different purchase from fixing a gap. If the aim is an entrance assessment, ask the target school what it tests and for how long, because a general weekly slot across Year 5 is an expensive way to prepare for a 45-minute paper.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme, standard route

Five years, four branches, four criteria marked 0 to 8 each. Spending is lumpy rather than even: Years 7 and 8 need occasional habit work, Year 9 is the year most families start because set decisions are made on it, and Years 10 and 11 carry the heaviest load because the standard route consolidates everything and the Diploma choice follows. A family that buys evenly across five years overspends; one that buys at Year 9 and Year 11 usually does not.

In Dubai the decision to stay in the programme at Year 10 rather than move to International GCSE also changes the bill. Criterion coaching is bought in blocks against task deadlines; examination technique is bought in a sustained run of timed practice. Ask the school which route Year 10 takes before committing to a two-year plan.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme mathematics

The standard route through Middle Years mathematics leads naturally to Applications and Interpretation, at standard or higher level. Diploma tutoring is the most expensive stage in the whole continuum because the specialist pool is thinner and the exploration carries assessment weight, which is why the cheapest thing a Year 10 family can do is close the standard-route gaps now rather than pay Diploma rates to close them later.

Published specialist bands in Dubai sit at AED 200 to AED 450 and above for International Baccalaureate work, with one provider at AED 650, so a Diploma year of weekly support is a materially larger commitment than a Middle Years one. Course requirements for UAE and overseas universities are published per programme; read two target courses before the route is fixed.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, the Year 10 alternative

Where a Dubai school switches at Year 10, mathematics becomes a timed terminal examination and the tutoring economics change. Published rates for International GCSE support start lower than Diploma work, with one agency publishing from AED 150, and the hours needed are more predictable because past-paper practice is measurable. The cost risk here is buying teaching when the student needs timing practice.

Cambridge runs International GCSE in June and November series with six administrative timetable zones, and Pearson in May or June and November. Private candidate entry carries its own fee paid to the centre, which belongs in the family budget and is not something a tutoring provider charges or controls.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Quotes move with what is being bought, so it helps to name the piece of work. These are the standard-route Middle Years mathematics requests we price most often in Dubai, and what each usually takes.

Number fluency repair

Usually MYP 1 to MYP 3

Fractions, negative numbers, proportional reasoning. Diagnosed from marked work rather than a placement test, and typically four to six sessions as a standalone intensive. Left alone, it reappears in Year 9 simultaneous equations and in Year 11 modelling, where it costs considerably more to fix because two other things have to be unpicked first.

Criterion C notation and reasoning

All five years

The cheapest grade movement available on the standard route: three or four sessions correcting every notation slip on the student's own work. Defined variables, carried units, labelled axes, a stated conclusion. Priced as a short block rather than a weekly commitment, because once the habit is installed, it holds.

Investigating patterns blocks

Criterion B, any year

Three to five sessions against a specific task deadline. The student brings the task sheet and clarification and writes every assessed word. Priced per block because the work is bounded; a weekly open-ended slot for investigation coaching is a way of paying for sessions in weeks with no task to coach.

Real-life modelling and evaluation

Criterion D, any year

Two to three sessions in most cases, because the missing piece is usually the evaluation paragraph rather than the mathematics. Dubai schools often set these tasks on local data such as tariffs or journey times, so the work is practical and finishes quickly once the student knows what the final paragraph must contain.

MYP 4 standard consolidation

Year 10 standard route

The heaviest single year for standard-route spending, usually a weekly slot across two or three terms. Quadratics, trigonometry, circle properties and compound measures all land in this year, and the standard course covers them to a depth that the Diploma Applications and Interpretation route then assumes.

MYP 5 retrieval and exit assessment

Year 11 standard route

Mostly retrieval across five years rather than new content, plus format work where the school enters candidates for the end-of-programme on-screen examination. Priced as a term-long run rather than a year, because the useful window is the one before the final assessments.

Standard or extended route advice

End of MYP 3 or MYP 4

Often a single session rather than a plan. A specialist reads the four criterion marks and the marked tasks and gives an honest view on whether the extended route is survivable for this student, and what it would cost in weekly hours to make it so. Families who buy this one session frequently save a year of misdirected support.

Mid-year transfer mapping

Any year

For students arriving in Dubai from another curriculum. Four to six sessions comparing what has been covered against the school's current unit and the four branches, then teaching only the real gaps. Cheaper than a weekly slot and considerably cheaper than discovering the gaps in a Year 10 assessment.

Calculator and digital submission skills

MYP 3 to MYP 5

One or two sessions on the exact permitted device and, where the school collects tasks digitally, on the equation editor. Low cost, disproportionate return: mangled typeset notation loses criterion C marks that the student has entirely earned mathematically.

Sibling plans across two years

Two students, different years

Common in Dubai, and worth asking about explicitly. Two students in different programme years cannot share a session usefully, but they can share a diagnostic review and one evidence file, and staggered slots on the same evening are easier for a family to protect than two separate commitments.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy standard-route support, each with a different cost shape. The first is predictable, the second is bounded, the third is the cheapest when it is the right answer.

Weekly one-to-one across a term

A fixed slot on Gulf Standard Time with the school's current unit as the material. Predictable to budget and the right structure in MYP 4 and 5, where content arrives continuously. Allow for assessment weeks and travel: a term rarely delivers twelve usable sessions, and a plan priced on twelve will either overrun or be padded with sessions nobody needed.

  • 60 or 90 minutes weekly, same slot, recorded
  • Budget realistically on nine or ten usable sessions a term
  • Pause weeks rather than cancellation charges
  • Best value in Year 10 and Year 11

Bounded blocks against a deadline

Three to five sessions aimed at one criterion and one task, scheduled backwards from the submission date. Bounded cost, measurable outcome, and no payment for weeks when there is nothing to coach. For criterion B and criterion D work this is both the cheapest and the most effective purchase on the standard route, because those two criteria carry the widest mark ranges.

  • Priced per block, not per month
  • Scheduled from the school's deadline backwards
  • The student writes every assessed word
  • Leaves a reusable checklist behind

A single diagnostic session

One session, often the free trial itself, that reads the marked work and tells you what to buy and in what order, including when the answer is nothing. Families facing a standard or extended route decision, or arriving mid-year, get more from this than from a month of general support, and it is the only purchase we actively recommend to people who then do not buy anything else.

  • Free 45-minute trial, one per family, no card details taken
  • Output is a one-page plan with hours and a checkpoint
  • Includes an honest view on route choice
  • Sometimes ends with a recommendation not to buy

01

The Dubai rate bands, and what each one buys a standard-route student

The usable way to read tutoring prices in this emirate is by band rather than by brand. There are five bands in the market and they are separated by what the hour contains, not by marketing. At the bottom, budget online platforms publish from AED 33 to AED 65 an hour; the model is scheduled sessions with material supplied by the platform and, in several cases, a rotating tutor. In the middle, qualified subject tutors online publish from AED 150 to AED 300; one agency states from AED 150 for International GCSE and from AED 200 for International Baccalaureate work.

Above that, specialists in International Baccalaureate and Cambridge subjects are quoted at AED 200 to AED 450 and beyond, with one UK agency publishing AED 270 and a premium named provider at AED 650. In-home visits sit across the middle and upper bands at AED 180 to AED 350 per the Bestimate rate survey, with individual listings to AED 500, because the drive is inside the rate. Monthly packaging appears in two shapes: AED 799 for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

For a standard-route Middle Years request the honest guidance is that the middle band does most of the work. A tutor who knows the framework, reads criterion descriptors fluently and has marked investigation tasks is the requirement; an examiner-level specialist is rarely necessary before the Diploma. Where a standard-route family is quoted at the top of the market, ask what specifically in the brief requires it. Where a family is tempted by the bottom band, ask who the tutor will be next month, because continuity is what a criterion-marked subject rewards.

The table sets the bands against what each delivers for a standard-route student. All figures were read in October 2026 from the pages named, belong to those providers, and are quoted here as market context rather than as IB Gram prices. Rates change; the source column is there so you can check the current figure rather than trusting this page a year from now.

The five things that move a Dubai quote for the same student

Two families can receive quotes two hundred dirhams apart for apparently identical work, and the difference is almost never arbitrary. Five variables do most of it. The first is the year group: MYP 1 and 2 work is quoted lower than MYP 5, because the content is narrower and the pool of competent tutors wider. The second is the criterion being targeted. Criterion A content teaching is the commonest skill in the market; criterion B investigation coaching is the rarest, and the price reflects scarcity rather than difficulty.

The third is session length. A 90-minute session is rarely priced at exactly 1.5 times a 60-minute one, because the fixed costs of preparation and marking are the same. For standard-route work in Years 7 to 9, two 45-minute sessions a week often beat one 90-minute session on outcome and cost close to the same, which makes the comparison a scheduling decision rather than a financial one.

The fourth is how late you start. A deadline block booked three weeks out is ordinary work; the same block booked four days out requires a tutor to clear other slots, and the market prices that. More importantly, late work is less effective: criterion B coaching four days before submission cannot rebuild the generalisation skill, only tidy the draft. The fifth is continuity. One tutor across a year costs less in real terms than three tutors across a year, because each new tutor spends the first session doing diagnosis you have already paid for.

One variable that should not move the price, and sometimes does: the standard versus extended distinction. Extended attracts higher quotes in this market because the tutor pool is thinner, not because the hour is harder to deliver. If you are quoted a standard-route rate with an extended-route surcharge attached, ask what in the brief changed. The table lists all five variables with the direction and the size of the effect, expressed against published market bands rather than against our own prices.

03

What a year of standard-route support actually totals

A rate is half a price. The other half is the quantity, and this is where published market figures become useful rather than decorative: multiply the band by a realistic session count and the decision becomes visible. A term in a Dubai school rarely yields twelve usable weekly sessions. Assessment weeks, a school trip, two travel weeks and a public holiday take the realistic figure to nine or ten, which means an academic year of weekly support is twenty-eight to thirty-two sessions rather than the thirty-eight the calendar suggests.

Three plan shapes cover most standard-route families. The light plan is two deadline blocks and one habit block a year, about ten to fourteen sessions, and it suits a student whose criterion A marks are sound and whose losses are in communication and evaluation. The medium plan is one weekly slot across two terms plus a deadline block, roughly twenty-two to twenty-six sessions, which is the usual Year 9 or Year 10 shape. The heavy plan is weekly across the full year with blocks layered on, which is a Year 11 or Diploma-year commitment and should be entered deliberately.

Run those session counts against the published bands and the spread is instructive. At the mid-market qualified band, a light plan is a fraction of what a heavy plan at specialist rates costs, and for a standard-route student with sound content knowledge the light plan frequently produces more grade movement per dirham, because it is aimed at the criteria with the widest mark ranges. The expensive mistake is not buying the wrong band. It is buying the heavy plan when the evidence called for two blocks.

The table does the arithmetic using the published bands rather than any price of ours. Treat the totals as the market's arithmetic, not a quotation: your actual figure depends on which provider you choose and what they charge, and both should be in writing before you start.

Standard is not the cheap route: what it actually covers

  • Same four branches, same four criteria, same 0 to 8 scales on both routes
  • Extended adds content and pace; standard uses the time for consolidation
  • Standard route plus higher-level Analysis and Approaches needs a bridging plan
  • Ask the Diploma route question in Year 10, when it is still cheap to act on

The phrase standard mathematics invites a misreading, and Dubai parents arrive with it regularly. Standard is one of two routes through the same framework, covering number, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, and statistics and probability, assessed against the same four criteria on the same 0 to 8 scales. It is not a reduced subject with a lower ceiling on the report. A student on the standard route can score at the top of every criterion, and the grade that results is the same grade a student on the extended route would receive for the same marks.

What the extended route adds is additional content, aimed at students heading towards higher-level Diploma mathematics, delivered at a faster pace. The standard route uses that time for consolidation instead, which for most students is the better bargain. The group that suffers is the one placed on the standard route and then asked to pick up higher-level Diploma mathematics anyway, because the gap is real and has to be closed in the summer between MYP 5 and the Diploma.

The cost consequence runs in both directions. Standard-route support is quoted lower because the tutor pool is wider, but a standard-route student intending to take Analysis and Approaches at higher level needs a bridging plan that is priced like extended work. Conversely, an extended-route student who will take Applications and Interpretation is paying extra for content the Diploma course will not require. The question that actually decides the bill is the Diploma route, and it should be asked in Year 10, not Year 12.

This is also why a single diagnostic session on route choice is good value. A specialist reading four criterion marks and three marked tasks can say whether the extended route is survivable, whether the bridging plan is needed, and what it would cost in hours. Families who buy that one session and nothing else have still made the most financially significant decision in the whole five years.

05

Tutoring cost in context: Dubai fees, the freeze and what else the money buys

A tutoring figure in isolation sounds either trivial or alarming depending on the day. In context it is easier to judge. Dubai had 227 private schools and 387,441 private school pupils in 2024-25, across 17 curricula, with the British curriculum at 37 per cent of enrolment, the Indian curriculum at 26, the American at 14 and the International Baccalaureate at 7. That is the market a Dubai family is buying in, and it is both deep and competitive on price.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for 2026-27, as part of Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For 2026-27 the emirate also added seven new private schools, four British curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. A frozen fee line plus new capacity is a buyer's market at school level, which is exactly when discretionary spending moves into tutoring.

Against that backdrop, the comparison worth making is not tutoring against nothing but tutoring against the alternatives for the same money. A term of weekly one-to-one at the mid-market band sits in the same range as a set of holiday camps or a year of a single extracurricular activity. Judging it fairly means attaching a measurable outcome to the tutoring, which is why every plan on this page carries a checkpoint stated as what should appear on the next school-marked task.

The table gathers the published figures a Dubai family actually weighs, each with its source. Where a figure is ours, we say so; none of the money figures here are. Two deliberate omissions: we publish no school fee figures for individual schools, because those are set per school and change, and we state nothing about the tax treatment of tuition fees, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority source we do not have.

Where standard-route families in Dubai waste money

  • Buying content teaching for a communication or evaluation problem
  • Paying specialist rates for early-year fluency work
  • Committing to a second weekly session the timetable cannot hold
  • Booking a deadline block inside a week of submission

Four patterns account for most of the wasted spend we see, and all four are avoidable with one diagnostic session. The first is buying content when the loss is in communication. A student with a 6 on knowing and understanding and a 4 on communicating does not need more topic teaching; they need a dozen notation habits corrected on their own work. Families who buy a year of content teaching for that profile pay a great deal and watch the report not move, which then reads as the tutoring having failed.

The second is paying specialist rates for generalist work. Number fluency repair in Year 7 does not require an examiner-level specialist, and the market will happily sell one. The third is the optimistic second weekly session. Dubai Middle Years timetables carry eight subject groups plus the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies stream, and the second session is the one that gets cancelled from October onwards, often after it has been paid for in a package.

The fourth is late booking against deadlines. A criterion B block four days before submission can tidy a draft and cannot build the generalisation skill the mark depends on, so the family pays for coaching at a premium and receives proofreading. Booking the same block three weeks out costs less and does the actual work. The pattern repeats every term because the task sheet arrives earlier than parents notice it.

One more, less common but more expensive: continuing past the checkpoint without asking the question. A plan with no stated measure runs indefinitely because nobody can say it has failed. Ours state the measure in advance, which is as much a protection for the family as for us. If a provider will not tell you what should appear on the next marked task, the plan has no checkpoint and the spending has no natural end.

07

The permit, the invoice and what to put in writing

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, and the regulation affects what a legitimate quote looks like. Individuals providing private lessons need a private tuition work permit issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; the ministry has not published a fine schedule, so treat any specific amount you are quoted with scepticism.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different matter: that requires an Educational Services Permit for a training institute from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, with initial approval first and annual renewal. The distinction matters because the phrase approved tutor circulates loosely in this market. IB Gram holds no regulator or examination board approval, accreditation or partnership, and anyone claiming one should be asked for the permit number.

On the invoice itself, four things belong in writing before money moves: the rate and what the unit is, whether it is per hour or per session; the number of sessions and what happens to unused ones; the notice period for cancelling or pausing, which matters in a city where families relocate mid-year; and whether the quoted figure includes value added tax, together with the provider's tax registration number if they charge it. We do not state the general tax treatment of tuition fees on this page, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation.

Two further questions are worth asking any provider. Who specifically will teach, and what happens if that person becomes unavailable? And what is collected about your child, why, and how it is deleted on request, since a lead form for a minor collects personal data and the UAE's personal data protection law applies. A provider who answers all six of these in writing is probably also keeping records of the teaching.

Delivery is online, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard the student writes on and a recording the family keeps. IB Gram does not arrange home visits in Dubai; home tutoring is a service we offer only in India, and that is true of every emirate rather than a limitation on this page. The published in-home figures above are market context for a service we do not sell, included because the question deserves an answer rather than a redirect.

The commercial consequence is in your favour on a criterion-marked subject. Removing the drive removes the radius, and the radius is what otherwise decides which tutor your child gets. A standard-route Year 10 student in International City can work with the same specialist available to a family in Emirates Hills, at the same band, which is not true of any visiting model in this city.

Where no suitable tutor is free in the slot you want, we say so and offer the honest alternatives: a different time with the right specialist, a different profile at your time, or a short wait. We do not fill a slot with a generalist and let a family discover the mismatch at the next reporting point. The constraint bites hardest at 5pm on weekdays, which is when every family in Dubai wants a session.

What we will not claim: approval, accreditation or partnership from any regulator, school or examination board; any grade outcome, because no honest tutor can promise one; any statistic about our own students without the sample size, date and method attached; and no price of our own dressed up as a market average. Every AED figure on this page belongs to the provider or survey named beside it and was read in October 2026. What we offer is a free 45-minute trial lesson, one per family, no card details taken, and a written plan with hours and a checkpoint in it.

Where we tutor

What families in each Dubai community actually ask about cost

Lessons are online, so geography changes the timetable and the question rather than the rate. These notes record what the cost conversation tends to sound like in each community, based on the requests that reach us.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Established families with older children in the programme, so questions are about the Year 11 and Diploma transition cost rather than the hourly rate. Commonly asking whether to buy now or wait for Year 12.

Arabian Ranches and Mudon

Villa communities with several children in school at once, so the question is usually total household spend across two or three students rather than one rate. Staggered evening slots matter more than the number here.

Al Nahda and Al Qusais

Price sensitivity is highest in this corridor and budget platform rates from AED 33 to AED 65 are the benchmark families quote at us. The honest comparison is what a rotating-tutor model does to continuity on a criterion-marked subject.

Dubai Marina and JLT

A transient population paying monthly rather than annually, so cancellation terms and notice periods are the real question. Families here ask more about what happens when they relocate than about the hourly figure.

Dubai Hills Estate and Al Barsha South

Close to several continuum campuses, with parents comparing a tuition centre group class against one-to-one. The useful comparison is monthly cost against hours and whether the child's own task sheet is ever opened.

International City and Warsan

Budget-led requests where a short intensive against one named gap is far better value than a weekly slot, and we say so. Most enquiries here are MYP 1 to 3 number fluency.

The Springs, The Meadows and Jumeirah Park

Long-standing programme families, often buying one deadline block a term rather than continuous support. The question is how many blocks a year, not what an hour costs.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Later school runs push sessions to 5pm or beyond, and 90-minute slots are more common here, which changes the per-session figure even when the hourly rate does not.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Schools running the programme to Year 11

Where the programme continues to MYP 5, families plan across two years and the spending pattern is lumpy: light in Years 7 and 8, heavy in Year 9 and Year 11. Students we support attend these schools; IB Gram has no relationship with any of them.

  • Uptown International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Greenfield International School

Full-continuum campuses in the western corridor

The densest IB provision in the emirate, where task deadlines bunch and deadline blocks are the usual purchase rather than year-long weekly slots.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Raffles World Academy

Schools where a Year 10 route decision arises

Campuses offering International GCSE alongside or instead of the programme at Year 10, which changes the technique a family is buying and therefore the shape of the spend.

  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches

Schools are named only to describe the Dubai school landscape these fee and rate comparisons sit in. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform, not affiliated with, endorsed by or in partnership with any school, school group, regulator or examination board named here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask for the band, not the brand

Tell us the year group, the route and the criterion you think is weak, and we will say which market band the brief belongs in and why. Most standard-route requests sit in the qualified middle band rather than the specialist one, and knowing that before you shop is worth more than any discount.

  2. 02

    Send the marked work

Three marked tasks, teacher comments and the task-specific clarification sheets. These decide whether you are buying content teaching, habit correction or investigation coaching, which are priced differently and take different numbers of sessions. Guessing between them is the most common way to overspend.

  3. 03

Free 45-minute trial, one per family

A specialist reads the work with your child present and produces a one-page plan: target criterion, plan shape, realistic session count and a checkpoint. No card details are taken to book it. If the plan is four sessions rather than a year, that is what the page will say.

  4. 04

    Get the terms in writing

Rate and unit, session count, what happens to unused sessions, notice period for pausing or cancelling, and whether value added tax is included with the registration number if it is charged. Also who will teach and what happens if they become unavailable.

  5. 05

Stop at the checkpoint and decide again

The plan states what should appear on the next school-marked task. At that point the options are continue, change the target, or stop, and stopping is a real option we will recommend when the evidence supports it. Marked work and recordings stay with you regardless.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Published figures, named sources, stated dates

Every AED number here belongs to the provider or rate survey that published it and was read in October 2026. Three of the six best-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in a currency Dubai families do not transact in.

Hours as well as rates

A rate without a session count is an open-ended commitment. Plans are quoted as a shape with a realistic number of sessions for a Dubai school year, allowing for assessment weeks and travel, so the total is visible before you start rather than after.

The cheapest effective purchase, named

For most standard-route students the best value is a short habit block on notation and a bounded block on investigation or modelling, not a year of weekly content teaching. We will tell you that even when it is the smaller sale.

No price of ours disguised as a market average

We publish no rate card next to sourced competitor figures, because the comparison would not be like for like. You get a free trial, a named tutor and a quote against a named target, with the market context above it for calibration.

Terms you can hold us to

Rate and unit, session count, pause and cancellation notice, who teaches and what happens if they leave, and a stated checkpoint measure. A plan without a measure has no natural end, which is how open-ended tutoring spending happens.

Honest about the model and its limits

Lessons are online across the UAE, with no home visits anywhere in the country. Where no suitable specialist is free in your slot, you will be told rather than matched with a generalist. We claim no regulator approval and promise no grades.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does standard-route Middle Years maths tutoring cost per hour in Dubai?+

Published rates in this emirate put budget online platforms at AED 33 to AED 65, qualified subject tutors online at AED 150 to AED 300, subject specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, and in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 350 with individual listings reaching AED 500. Those figures belong to the providers and rate surveys that published them and were read in October 2026. A standard-route brief usually belongs in the qualified middle band: framework knowledge and descriptor fluency are the requirement, and examiner-level specialism is rarely proportionate before the Diploma years.

Why is standard route maths sometimes quoted lower than extended?+

Because the tutor pool is wider, not because the hour is easier to deliver. Both routes cover the same four branches against the same four criteria on the same scales; extended adds content aimed at higher-level Diploma mathematics and moves faster, which narrows the number of tutors confident teaching it. If you are quoted a standard rate with an extended surcharge attached, ask what in the brief changed. The genuinely expensive case is a standard-route student who intends to take higher-level Analysis and Approaches, because that needs a bridging plan priced like extended work.

How many sessions should I budget for an academic year?+

Fewer than the calendar suggests. A Dubai term rarely yields twelve usable weekly sessions once assessment weeks, a school trip, travel and public holidays are deducted, so nine or ten is realistic and a full year of weekly support is twenty-eight to thirty-two. Light plans of ten to fourteen sessions suit students whose content is sound and whose losses are in communication and evaluation. Medium plans of twenty-two to twenty-six are the usual Year 9 and Year 10 shape. Anything heavier should be a deliberate Year 11 decision rather than a default.

Is an eight-session monthly package better value for standard-route maths than paying session by session?+

It is a quantity decision rather than a discount, and should be judged that way. Packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Divide by the hours and compare against the band, then ask the two questions that decide whether the package is good value for you: what happens to unused sessions, and what the notice period is for pausing. In a city where families relocate mid-year and timetables tighten after October, an unused session is a real cost.

Does the Dubai school fee freeze change what we should spend on tutoring?+

It changes the context rather than the price. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total, and the emirate added seven schools and 16,846 places for the same intake. A frozen fee line and new capacity usually move discretionary education spending towards tutoring, which means demand rather than cost pressure. Treat any provider who cites rising costs as a reason for a higher rate with ordinary scepticism.

Which single purchase gives a standard-route student the most movement?+

Usually a short notation and reasoning block followed by one bounded investigation block. Criterion C losses are habits, correctable in three or four sessions on the student's own work, and criterion B carries the widest mark range in the subject while being the least rehearsed in homework. Together that is seven or eight sessions aimed at the two criteria most likely to be holding the grade down. A year of weekly content teaching costs several times as much and, for a student whose knowing-and-understanding mark is already sound, frequently moves nothing.

Should I pay more for a tutor who has read my child's school unit plans?+

You should expect it rather than pay extra for it. The task-specific clarification sheet and unit sheet are what tell a tutor what the marker will accept, and a session that opens by reading them against your child's draft changes what the student does more reliably than extra content teaching. Those documents come from you, not from the tutor, which is why we ask for them before the first session. If a provider quotes a premium for familiarity with your school, ask what specifically they will have read and when.

Should a Dubai tutoring invoice show value added tax separately?+

Ask the provider directly, and ask for their tax registration number if they charge it. We do not state the general tax treatment of tuition fees on this page because that requires a Federal Tax Authority source, and a tutoring website is not the right authority for a tax position. What a parent can reasonably insist on is clarity: whether the quoted figure is inclusive or exclusive, which unit it applies to, and whether the invoice will show the breakdown. Vagueness on that question is itself a useful signal about how the rest of the arrangement will be run.

Is a tutor without a UAE permit cheaper, and what is the risk?+

Sometimes cheaper, and the risk sits with the tutor rather than with you, which is precisely why it is worth asking. Individuals giving private lessons in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years to eligible applicants. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published. Since the permit costs nothing, a tutor who has not obtained one is telling you something about their record-keeping.

How much does a route-choice conversation cost at the end of Year 9?+

It can be the free trial lesson. A specialist reading four criterion marks and three marked tasks can give an honest view on whether the extended route is survivable for your child, what the standard route closes off, and what a bridging plan to higher-level Diploma mathematics would cost in hours. Families who buy nothing else have still made the most financially consequential decision of the five years, because the wrong route produces either a year of unnecessary extension content or a summer of expensive catch-up before the Diploma starts.

Does a 90-minute session cost 1.5 times a 60-minute one?+

Rarely, because preparation and marking are fixed costs whatever the live duration. That makes the comparison a scheduling question rather than a financial one. For Years 7 to 9 on the standard route, two 45-minute sessions a week usually outperform one 90-minute session, because the habits being built are small and benefit from frequency. For Year 11 retrieval work the longer session wins, since a full past task or a complete modelling write-up does not fit into 45 minutes. Price both and choose on the maths, not on the per-minute figure.

What happens to the money if the tutor turns out to be the wrong match?+

Get the answer in writing before you start, from any provider. The questions are who specifically will teach, what happens if that person becomes unavailable mid-term, and whether a replacement repeats the diagnostic work at your expense. Continuity has a real price: every new tutor spends the first session doing diagnosis the family has already paid for once. We also make no promise to return money on the strength of a grade, because such promises are commitments no honest tutor can keep and the published terms usually say so in the detail.

Can two children in different programme years share the spend?+

Not a session, usefully, but a plan yes. Two students in different Middle Years years are working on different content and often different criteria, so a shared live session shortchanges both. What can be shared is the diagnostic review, a single evidence file the family reads once, and an evening: staggered slots back to back are far easier for a Dubai household to protect than two separate commitments on different nights. Ask any provider whether they price a household review rather than two independent intakes, since the second intake is largely repeated work.

Is a tuition centre group class in Dubai cheaper for standard-route maths?+

Cheaper per hour, and a different product, so compare on what each hour contains. A centre class follows the centre's sequence at a shared pace and will not open your child's task sheet or clarification. Most Dubai centres advertise monthly, so divide by the hours before comparing with an hourly band. Where the need is broad revision in an exam year, a class can be reasonable value. Where it is one criterion or one inherited gap, one-to-one is shorter and usually cheaper in total even at a higher hourly figure.

When is the honest answer that we should not buy tutoring at all?+

More often than the market admits. Three cases come up regularly: a student whose criterion marks are all moving upwards already and who needs time rather than teaching; a student whose problem is a timetable or sleep issue that no tutor can fix; and a family whose real question is about set placement, which is a conversation with the school rather than a purchase. The free trial is where we say so. A provider unwilling to reach that conclusion in any circumstance is not giving you advice, only a quotation.

Get the band, the hours and the checkpoint in writing

Send the year group, the route and three recent marked mathematics tasks. In a free 45-minute trial lesson, one per family and no card details taken, a specialist tells you which market band your brief belongs in, how many sessions the work realistically takes across a Dubai school year, and what should appear on the next school-marked task if the plan is working. Lessons run online, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Every market figure quoted here belongs to the provider or survey named beside it, and none of them is a price of ours.
