Edexcel IGCSE Maths A 4MA1 Home Tutor in Dubai

Families looking for an Edexcel IGCSE Maths A 4MA1 home tutor in Dubai are usually trying to work out two numbers at once: what an hour costs, and how many hours it will take. This page answers both the way a budget conversation should go, in dirhams, with every market figure attributed to whoever published it. It also prices the thing nobody prices: the marks each kind of fix gives back, so a family can see which hours are worth buying first.

  • Every AED band attributed to the provider or aggregator that published it
  • Marks-recovered estimates tied to a marked script, not to a sales claim
  • No package minimum, no joining fee, no charge for a cancelled slot
  • A free first hour; a quote only after a paper has been marked

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Pricing 4MA1 support honestly: the hour, the hours, and what each one gives back

Published market rates in Dubai, read in October 2026, put a qualified subject tutor working online at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, a tutor travelling to the family at roughly AED 180 to AED 500, and an IGCSE or A Level specialist at roughly AED 200 to AED 450 and above. Budget online provision starts far lower: EdFlik lists from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. At the top, BartyED publishes AED 650. Those belong to the providers named. None of them is an IB Gram price.

A rate on its own decides nothing, because the question a family is really asking is what the total will be. Twelve hours at AED 300 is cheaper than forty hours at AED 150, and which of those a candidate needs depends entirely on why marks are being lost. This is why the first number worth producing is not a rate but a marked script. A candidate surrendering marks to unstated working and premature rounding can be fixed in a handful of hours. A candidate with real gaps across algebra and the Higher block is looking at a term.

The useful unit, then, is dirhams per mark recovered, and it varies enormously between causes. Written method and calculator discipline are the cheapest repairs available in 4MA1 because they recover marks the candidate has already earned mathematically and then failed to collect. Topic gaps cost more per mark because the content has to be taught and then practised to fluency. Timing is usually free, in the sense that it resolves once the first two are fixed. A tutor who sells hours without ranking them this way is selling volume.

Timing matters as much as ranking. The same budget spent fortnightly across two years buys algebraic fluency, brings the hardest Higher content forward so the school teaches it a second time for nothing, and allows the tier question to be settled before the centre's entry deadline. The identical sum spent as a block in the last six weeks buys paper discipline and damage limitation. Both are legitimate purchases. They are not the same purchase, and a provider should say which one you are making.

There is a third cost almost no page in this market mentions, and it is the largest of all: the tier. A capable candidate entered for Foundation cannot be awarded a top grade whatever they do, and the knock-on effect on sixth-form maths options and then on university routes is worth more than the entire tutoring budget. Changing that entry costs nothing at all, provided somebody notices before the centre's deadline. Noticing is the single highest-return thing a diagnostic paper does.

Lessons for Dubai families are delivered one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with slots moved to post-Iftar timing through Ramadan. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that service runs only in India. On a written, calculator-permitted subject with no practical component, the shared workspace is what matters, and the saving on travel is real rather than rhetorical. The sections below put numbers on all of it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Where a candidate sits on the Pearson maths route changes both the hourly figure a family will be quoted and the number of hours that figure has to be multiplied by. These are the four stages, costed rather than described.

LOWER SECAges 11-14

Lower secondary maths, Years 7 to 9

The cheapest hours in the whole route, because the work is building fluency rather than repairing a grade under deadline. Algebraic manipulation practised to automaticity at thirteen removes most of what a Year 11 family would otherwise pay to fix. Market rates at this level sit at the lower end of every band, and sessions can be fortnightly without losing momentum.

Dubai schools set maths from Year 7 or 8 in most centres, and set movement is where families first get a signal. A candidate in a middle set for two years running is usually on a Foundation trajectory that nobody has stated out loud. Asking the department what tier a set is heading for, at thirteen rather than at fifteen, is a free question with a large financial consequence.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A (4MA1)

Two equally weighted written papers, calculator permitted in both, no coursework, tiered into Foundation and Higher. This is where almost all tutoring spend in the route concentrates, and where it is most often spent in the wrong order: families buy content coverage when the script shows method losses. Confirm the specification detail on qualifications.pearson.com for your centre's version.

Dubai centres enter 4MA1 in the May/June series or in November, and a few use both. The entry deadline, not the exam date, is the financially significant date in the year, because it fixes the tier. Ask the maths department in writing for the tier, the code and the internal deadline for changing it, and treat the answer as a budgeting document.

IGCSE+Ages 15-16 · Year 11, in addition to 4MA1

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Further Pure Mathematics (4PM1)

An additional qualification rather than an alternative, reaching into calculus, series and coordinate geometry. Financially it is a poor purchase for a candidate working hard for a 7, because the hours it consumes come straight out of 4MA1 preparation and the likely outcome is two mediocre grades instead of one strong one. For a candidate already finishing Higher papers early, it is a good use of the same money.

Only a minority of Dubai schools teach 4PM1, usually those with large maths cohorts and an International A Level sixth form. Where it is not taught, paying a tutor to deliver it from scratch is an expensive way to buy a signal that a grade 9 on 4MA1 would send more cheaply and more reliably.

IALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Pearson Edexcel International A Level Mathematics

Where the cost of a weak IGCSE foundation finally lands. A candidate who obtained a grade 8 through procedural recall rather than algebraic fluency typically needs paid support through the first pure unit, at sixth-form rates, which are higher. Money spent securing genuine fluency at sixteen is the cheapest insurance available against that bill.

Dubai sixth forms run either the modular International A Level or the linear UK specification, and the two have different assessment rhythms and therefore different points at which a family discovers a problem. Ask which one the school teaches before Year 12 begins; the modular route surfaces a gap earlier, which is cheaper even though it feels worse.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

4MA1 strands differ sharply in what they cost to repair. These are ranked roughly by marks recovered per hour of paid work, which is a more useful ordering for a budget than the specification's own.

Written method and layout

Cheapest repair in the qualification

Recovers marks the candidate already earned mathematically and then failed to collect. The work is habit formation through repeated marking of their own scripts with method marks itemised, so it needs several short cycles rather than one long session. Typically the highest return per dirham of anything on this list.

Rounding and stored-value discipline

One session plus two marked papers

Premature approximation puts a correct answer outside the accepted range, repeatedly, in both papers. One hour on calculator habits and two marked papers to confirm the change has stuck is usually the whole intervention. Very cheap, and almost never diagnosed without a marked script.

Geometry reasoning vocabulary

One to two hours

Reasoning marks are awarded for the written justification, not the number. A candidate with the right angles and no named theorems is losing one mark per question across the paper. A short fixed vocabulary per theorem, written even when the answer feels obvious, closes it quickly.

Upper and lower bounds

Two hours plus practice

A predictable Higher loss with a characteristic wrong answer: the rounded value used where the bound belongs. The fix is a written framework the candidate reproduces each time rather than a remembered rule, then marked practice until the framework is automatic.

Area and volume scale factors

One to two hours

Candidates apply the length factor to an area or a volume and lose the whole question. Cheap to fix and expensive to leave, because it appears across mensuration and similarity questions on both papers rather than in one place.

Histograms with unequal class widths

One hour

Frequency density treated as frequency. A single session with marked practice afterwards generally settles it. Worth buying early, because the same misunderstanding quietly damages cumulative frequency interpretation as well.

Sine and cosine rules, including the ambiguous case

Two to three hours

Losses here almost always trace back to no diagram having been drawn. Making the diagram the first non-negotiable line of the method costs an hour; the ambiguous case and three-dimensional problems need two or three more with marked practice between them.

Factorising and algebraic fractions

Six to eight weeks of short daily work

The load-bearing strand, and the most expensive to repair because fluency cannot be taught in a session. It needs short daily practice over weeks. It is also the strand that determines whether Higher tier is the right entry, so the money spent here changes the tier conversation.

Differentiation and turning points

A term if started late, half that if started early

Usually taught in the spring of Year 11 and practised too little, which is why it behaves like unlearned material under pressure. Meeting it with a tutor in the autumn costs fewer hours than meeting it in April, because the school teaches it a second time for free.

Vector geometry and proof

Three to four hours

Column vector arithmetic is accessible; proof is not, and candidates lose whole questions for an answer with no route through the diagram. Expressing a path as a sum of named vectors before any algebra converts the hardest marks on the paper into bookkeeping.

Functions, composite and inverse

Two to three hours

Notation errors and transformation direction account for most of the loss. Worth buying as a pair with the calculus work, since both appear in the same part of the Higher content and the same candidates miss both.

Paper timing and question order

Last, not first

Usually resolves on its own once method and rounding are fixed, because a candidate who writes method does not have to re-derive under pressure. Paying for timing drills before fixing the other two is the commonest way to waste money on 4MA1.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy 4MA1 support, with the budget consequence of each stated rather than implied. All three are billed by the hour, with no package minimum.

The four-hour repair

For a candidate whose script shows method and calculator losses rather than content gaps. One diagnostic paper, one session on written method, one on stored-value working and rounding, and one marked paper to confirm the change held. It is the smallest useful purchase in 4MA1 and frequently the most efficient.

  • Suits a candidate scoring well below their classwork level
  • Output is a habit change, not a topic list
  • Confirmed by a second marked paper rather than by assertion
  • Stops there if the second paper shows the losses have gone

The academic-year plan

Fortnightly or weekly hours from September, working down a ranked error log, with the hardest Higher content brought forward into the autumn so the school teaches it a second time in the spring at no cost. Total spend is higher and cost per mark is lower than any rescue block bought in the final term.

  • Error log updated weekly, so the list visibly shrinks
  • Higher calculus and vectors scheduled ahead of the school
  • Short marked sets between sessions on one strand only
  • Format switches to full timed papers six weeks before the series

The pre-series block

A dense run of full timed papers in the six to eight weeks before the series, with marking returned line by line and a question-order strategy built from the candidate's own mark pattern. The most expensive way to buy marks per hour, and sometimes the only option left.

  • Both papers in rotation under real timing
  • Method marks itemised in every return
  • A hard refusal on new content in the final fortnight
  • Honest about what cannot be recovered in the time remaining

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What the Dubai market charges for 4MA1 help, and what the number buys

The published spread in Dubai covers more than an order of magnitude, and the bands are not interchangeable. At the bottom, budget online provision starts from AED 45 to AED 65 on EdFlik's own listing and from AED 33 to AED 52 on Tutopiya's. A qualified subject tutor runs about AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist IGCSE and A Level provision sits at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, TutorChase publishing AED 270, and BartyED publishing AED 650 at the examiner tier. All read in October 2026.

What separates those bands for a maths candidate specifically is marking. A cheap hour is live help with whatever question is in front of the candidate, which has genuine value when the problem is that they are stuck on tonight's homework. It has close to no value when the problem is that they lose four of five marks on every multi-step question, because diagnosing that requires somebody to mark a full script against the published scheme and then itemise the losses. Nobody does that work inside an AED 50 hour.

In-home provision adds a journey to the bill. The published band of roughly AED 180 to AED 500 contains forty to eighty minutes of Dubai driving whether or not it appears as a line item, and on Palm Jumeirah or out at Studio City it contains more. It also narrows the pool to tutors willing to make that trip weekly for two years, which on Higher-tier calculus and vector proof is a meaningful constraint rather than a theoretical one.

IB Gram does not publish a price list on this page and will not quote one before a script has been marked. The first hour is free, no card details are taken, and a rate and an honest number of hours follow the diagnosis. A figure offered before anybody has seen how the candidate loses marks is not a price; it is a bet on volume, and the bet is placed in the seller's favour.

Cost per mark: ranking the 4MA1 repairs by what they give back

Hours are not interchangeable, and the difference between them is large enough to change a family's total spend by a factor of three. The cheapest marks in 4MA1 are the ones the candidate has already earned mathematically and then failed to collect: working that does not show the step the mark scheme rewards, and intermediate values rounded before the end. Both recover marks across every multi-step question on both papers, and both are fixed in a handful of hours because the underlying mathematics is already there.

The next tier up is the predictable topic losses, each with a characteristic wrong answer: bounds, area and volume scale factors, histograms with unequal class widths, the ambiguous case in the sine rule, and geometric vector proof. These cost more because the content has to be taught and then practised, but they are bounded. One to three hours each plus marked practice, and they close. A family with a limited budget should buy these in the order the marked script ranks them, not in the order a textbook presents them.

The most expensive repair is algebraic fluency, because fluency is not teachable in a session. Factorising and algebraic fractions need short daily work over six to eight weeks, and no amount of paid explanation substitutes for that practice. The money spent here is worth it, because the same fluency gates most Higher marks and determines whether Higher is the right tier at all, but a family should know they are buying a programme rather than a fix.

Timing comes last deliberately. A candidate who writes proper method does not have to re-derive their way through hard questions under pressure, and one who keeps full precision does not redo failed calculations. Fixing those two usually returns several minutes across a paper with no work on speed at all. Paying for timing drills first is the single commonest misallocation of a 4MA1 budget in this market.

03

The most expensive mistake in 4MA1 costs nothing to avoid

An avoidable Foundation entry is the largest financial event in a 4MA1 year, and it does not appear on any invoice. A Foundation entry caps the grade at the lower part of the scale. A candidate capable of a 7 who is entered for Foundation receives a grade that closes doors in a sixth-form maths conversation, and then in a university one, and no amount of later tutoring reopens them at the same price. The correction, made in time, costs a family nothing at all.

The reason it happens is structural rather than negligent. Set placement in Dubai schools is often made at thirteen on evidence from twelve, tiers follow sets, and nobody in the chain is required to tell a parent what tier their child is on. Families then receive report grades that look reassuring because they are reported against the tier the candidate is in. A steady run of strong marks in a middle set can mean a candidate is comfortably at the top of a ceiling they should not be under.

The window to act is set by the centre's Pearson entry deadline, which sits months ahead of the papers and, for a summer series, often before the Christmas break. Two emails settle it: one asking the maths department which tier the candidate is entered for, the other asking the internal deadline for changing it. Neither costs anything. The evidence that answers the question is one timed paper at each tier, marked against the published scheme, which is a two-week exercise.

The same logic runs in the other direction and is equally expensive. A candidate who is not secure on factorising, who draws no diagrams and loses the geometry reasoning marks will often score fewer raw marks on Higher than they would have on Foundation, because the accessible marks are thinner. Pushing a struggling candidate up a tier to signal ambition costs them a grade. Both errors come from the same reluctance to look at a marked script and say what it shows.

04

What the school already provides, and what you should not pay twice for

Dubai schools run more free maths intervention than most families use. Departmental catch-up clinics, lunchtime sessions, after-school revision in the term before a series, sixth-form peer tutoring, and in many centres a full mock programme with marked scripts returned. Before a family buys anything, the useful exercise is to find out exactly what the school offers, when it runs, and whether the candidate is attending. A paid hour that duplicates a free session the candidate skipped is pure waste.

Mock marking is the clearest case. If the department marks full mock papers against the published scheme and returns them, a family already has the diagnostic document that a tutor would otherwise charge to produce. Bring it to the first lesson. A tutor reading an existing marked mock can go straight to the plan rather than spending an hour establishing what is already known, which is a genuine saving rather than a notional one.

What the school cannot realistically provide is the thing worth paying for: sustained one-to-one marking of a single candidate's working, week after week, with the method marks itemised line by line. A teacher with twenty-five candidates and two other year groups marks holistically out of necessity. That is not a criticism of the teaching; it is an arithmetic fact about class size. One-to-one time is the only place the method-mark habit reliably transfers.

The second thing a school rarely does well is bring hard content forward. A scheme of work covers calculus in the spring of Year 11 because that is where it fits for everybody, and a candidate who needs to meet it twice has to find the first encounter elsewhere. That is a defensible use of paid hours in the autumn, and it is substantially cheaper than paid hours in April when the same material is competing with nine other subjects.

05

Group sets, small groups and one-to-one, priced per useful minute

Group tuition in Dubai is cheaper per hour and the arithmetic looks compelling until you divide by attention. In a group of four, a candidate gets roughly a quarter of the tutor's attention for a quarter of the price, so per minute of individual attention nothing has been saved. What a group genuinely buys is a taught explanation delivered once to several people, which is efficient when the whole group shares the same gap and worthless when they do not.

For 4MA1 the split is reasonably clear. A group works well for teaching a topic nobody in the room has met: bounds, histograms, the sine rule. It works poorly for everything else, because the remaining losses are script-specific. Four candidates in a room lose marks for four different reasons, and a tutor marking four scripts properly in one hour is not marking any of them properly. The method-mark work, which is where most recoverable marks sit, is irreducibly individual.

Tuition centres in Dubai towers frequently sell a monthly figure rather than an hourly one, and the published monthly patterns in this market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Those are the market's figures, not ours.

The sensible use of a mixed budget is deliberate rather than accidental. Buy group hours where a topic needs teaching to a cohort, and individual hours where a script needs marking. Families who make that split on purpose get more from the same total than families who pick one format for everything, and any tutor should be willing to tell you which of the two jobs a given hour is doing.

Resit economics: November entries, retakes and the private candidate route

Pearson makes International GCSE available in May/June and in November, which means a Dubai candidate has two chances in one academic year rather than one. The published reference points are worth knowing: the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Confirm any date against the live official timetable on qualifications.pearson.com.

Financially, the November route changes the whole risk profile. A January result leaves a full term to decide on a May retake, with the candidate now knowing exactly how they perform under real conditions, which is information no mock reliably provides. A family paying for support in that configuration is buying targeted hours against a known weakness. A family with a May-only entry and a disappointing August result is buying a full year's course again, usually at a worse moment.

Entry fees are set by the centre, not by Pearson's list price alone, and a school will add administration costs for a private or late entry. No figure is published here because no reliable sourced number exists for Dubai centres, and an invented one would be worse than silence. Ask the examinations officer directly what an additional subject entry and a private candidate entry each cost at that centre, before building a retake into a budget.

The private candidate route is also narrower than families expect. Not every Dubai school accepts external candidates, and those that do set their own conditions and deadlines. For a written subject with no practical component, 4MA1 is one of the more straightforward qualifications to sit externally, but availability still has to be confirmed centre by centre and well ahead of the entry deadline rather than after a disappointing result.

07

Two years or one term: when the same money works hardest

Timing changes the value of a tutoring dirham more than the hourly rate does. The same AED 6,000 spent across two academic years as fortnightly hours buys fluency, brings hard content forward so the school teaches it twice, and allows a tier conversation to happen before the entry deadline. Spent as a block in the final six weeks, it buys paper practice and a plan for damage limitation. Both are legitimate purchases; they are not the same purchase.

The strongest case for early spend is the compounding effect on algebra. Factorising and algebraic fractions gate most of the Higher content, so a candidate who becomes fluent in Year 10 needs fewer hours on everything that follows. The strongest case for late spend is simply that families do not always have the choice: a problem surfaces in February and the money has to work with what is left. A tutor should say plainly which of those two situations a family is in.

There is a third pattern that is more common than either and worse than both: weekly hours booked in September and cancelled half the time through the year. A fortnightly slot kept every time delivers more than a weekly slot kept every other week, because the work between sessions is what produces the progress and a cancelled session leaves nothing to mark. Families who are honest about their calendar at the start spend less and get more.

A fourth consideration is the number of subjects. A Dubai candidate sitting nine or ten subjects cannot be tutored in all of them, and trying produces a timetable with no time left to work. The useful conversation is which three subjects decide the sixth-form offer the candidate wants, and funding those properly instead of funding everything thinly. Maths is almost always one of the three, which is an argument for depth rather than for breadth.

Invoices, VAT, cancellations and the questions to settle before paying

Most disputes in this market are not about teaching quality. They are about terms nobody wrote down. Before any money changes hands, five things should be settled in writing: whether the quoted figure is the figure you pay, whether an invoice will be issued, what happens to a session cancelled with a day's notice, whether marking a full paper is billed as tutoring time, and how the arrangement ends. All five are reasonable questions and a reluctance to answer any of them is itself an answer.

On tax, this page states only what can be stated. The UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees is not asserted here because no Federal Tax Authority citation has been read for it, and a page this widely read should not guess at a tax position. What a parent can insist on is clarity about the final number: inclusive or exclusive, invoiced or not, and with a tax registration number shown if the provider holds one. Ask, and keep the reply.

Marking is the term most often left vague and the one that matters most for maths. A full 4MA1 paper marked properly against the published scheme, with method marks itemised, takes real time. Some providers include it, some bill it, and some simply do not do it and say they do. Ask specifically whether full papers are marked, by whom, and whether that time appears on the invoice. The answer tells you which product you are actually buying.

Permit status belongs in the same conversation. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services with a stated two working day completion time. Individuals tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no schedule of amounts has been published. Since the permit is free and quick, an evasive answer is informative in itself.

09

Why the search says home tutor and the lesson runs over live video

The phrase in this page's address is what Dubai parents type, and targeting it honestly is better than targeting it quietly. What families mean by a home tutor is one-to-one attention on their own child's work, at a time that survives the school run, without a group. All of that is deliverable over video. What is not deliverable is somebody arriving at the door, and IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service it runs only in India.

For maths this costs a family less than it would for a practical subject, because what matters is the shared workspace rather than the room. The candidate writes and the tutor watches the working appear line by line, so a correction lands at the step where the error happened instead of after the answer is already wrong. Scripts are uploaded between sessions and come back with method marks itemised. Very little of 4MA1 depends on physical proximity.

What the format buys in return is specificity. Higher-tier calculus, geometric vector proof and bounds are not general maths teaching, and selecting a tutor by driving distance from Palm Jumeirah or Studio City is a poor way to find somebody who marks those questions every week. Removing the journey also removes the travel premium that sits inside the published in-home band, which on a two-year arrangement is a real sum rather than a rhetorical one.

The limits are worth naming too. A tutor in the room can sit next to a reluctant fifteen-year-old and simply be present until they begin working, and some candidates genuinely need that more than they need a specialist. A family whose binding problem is motivation rather than marks should weigh it honestly. What this page offers instead is a free first hour with a marked script on the table, after which both sides know whether the arrangement is worth paying for.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities and what the local market quotes

Quoted rates move with distance and with what the surrounding tutoring market looks like. These are the Dubai communities we are asked about most, with the pricing reality in each.

Al Safa and Umm Al Sheif

Close to several long-established British-curriculum schools, which means a dense local tutoring market and quotes clustered at the upper end of the in-home band. The short school run also means a 5pm start is realistic, which is rarer in Dubai than families assume.

Barsha Heights and The Greens

Apartment communities with a large existing tuition-centre presence in the same towers, so families here have a genuine group-class option to compare against. The comparison turns on whether the candidate's problem is content coverage or written method; only one of those a group can address.

Palm Jumeirah

Quotes here run high for in-home work because the single access road adds a reliable twenty minutes to every journey in each direction. It is the clearest case in Dubai of a family paying a geography premium rather than a quality premium.

Dubai Production City and Studio City

Mid-rise communities a long way from the established school clusters, so in-home tutors either charge for the drive or quietly become unreliable. Families here report the largest gap between a quoted rate and a rate that holds for a full academic year.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Villa communities with strong nearby provision and quiet study space at home, which makes timed full-paper practice genuinely workable. That matters financially, because a candidate who can sit papers unsupervised at home needs fewer paid hours for the same preparation.

Dubai Investments Park and Green Community

A self-contained cluster where after-school activities finish earlier, so sessions start sooner and a shorter, sharper hour is often enough. The distance from central Dubai is what historically pushed in-home quotes here above the published band.

Al Mizhar and Mirdif

Established eastern communities with a mixed school set. Candidates often sit nine or ten subjects, which makes the real budgeting question how many subjects to fund rather than what one hour costs.

Jumeirah Village Triangle

A fast-growing community with several newer schools nearby and a shortage of specialist maths provision within driving distance. This is the profile where removing the travel constraint changes the available tutor pool most sharply, independent of price.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Safa, Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah

Students we support attend established schools in this corridor where maths departments are large and setted from early secondary. Set membership here is a strong predictor of the tier a department has in mind, which makes it a free early signal for a family planning a budget.

  • Safa British School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School
  • Horizon English School
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Kings' School Dubai

The Greens, Barsha Heights and Tecom

A cluster with a heavy commercial tuition presence in the surrounding towers, so families here are constantly comparing a group class two floors down against one-to-one work. The honest comparison is per useful minute on their own child's script rather than per hour.

  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dubai Gem Private School
  • Jebel Ali School

Nad Al Sheba, Meydan and Dubailand

Newer schools with varied assessment calendars, including centres that enter both the summer and the November Pearson series. A November entry changes the budgeting shape of the year, because it produces a January result and a real retake decision rather than a summer of waiting.

  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Hartland International School
  • GEMS FirstPoint School
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Schools are named purely as context for the Dubai private education market; IB Gram is independent and claims no affiliation with, endorsement by or partnership with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school three free questions

The specification code, the tier the candidate is entered for, and the internal deadline for changing it. Then ask what free intervention the department runs and whether your child attends. Four answers, no cost, and they determine whether any paid hour is needed at all and what it should be spent on.

  2. 02

Find a marked mock before paying for one

If the department marks full mock papers against the published scheme and returns them, you already hold the diagnostic document. Bring it. A tutor reading an existing marked script goes straight to the plan instead of charging an hour to establish what the school has already established.

  3. 03

Take the free first hour with the script

One hour, no card details, with the paper and the marking in front of both of you. The tutor classifies the losses into method, rounding, content and timing and says roughly what each costs per paper. By the end you have a ranked list and an honest hour count, not a package.

  4. 04

    Buy the cheapest repairs first

Method and rounding before topics, topics in the order the script ranks them, algebra as a programme rather than a session, timing last. Spending in that order routinely costs a family a third of what spending in the reverse order costs for the same grade movement.

  5. 05

    Settle the terms in writing

Whether the quoted figure is the figure you pay, whether an invoice is issued, what a cancelled session costs, whether full-paper marking is billed, and how the arrangement ends. Five questions, asked once, before any money moves. A reluctance to answer any of them is itself useful information.

  6. 06

Review against the next marked paper

Progress is judged on a script, not on a feeling. If the second marked paper shows the method and rounding losses have gone, the work stops there and nobody sells you more. If it does not, the plan was wrong and changing it is our problem rather than yours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

No quote before a marked script

A rate and an hour count are proposed only after a full paper has been marked against the published scheme and the losses classified. A figure offered before that is a bet on volume rather than a price, and the bet is placed in the seller's favour. The diagnostic hour costs nothing.

Repairs ranked by what they give back

Written method and rounding discipline are bought before topic gaps, topic gaps in the order the script ranks them, and timing drills last. That ordering is the difference between a handful of hours and a term of them for the same grade movement, and it is rarely what a package sells.

The free fix flagged first

An avoidable Foundation entry costs more than any tutoring budget and nothing to correct, provided somebody notices before the centre's deadline. The first thing a diagnostic paper is used for is that conversation, and the second is telling a family when their school's free intervention already covers the problem.

Billed by the hour, with the terms written down

No package minimum, no joining fee, no charge for a session cancelled with notice, and a clear answer on whether full-paper marking is billed. Most disputes in this market come from terms nobody wrote down rather than from teaching, so they get written down.

Market figures attributed, tax positions not invented

Every AED band names the provider or aggregator that published it and the month it was read. The UAE VAT treatment of tuition is not asserted, because no Federal Tax Authority citation has been read for it. No statistic appears on this page without a source behind it.

Independent, and specific about it

IB Gram is a tutor-matching platform with no UAE office or centre, no approval, accreditation or licence from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education, and no partnership with Pearson, Cambridge or the IB. No grade is promised and no outcome is guaranteed.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does 4MA1 tutoring cost per hour for a Dubai family?+

Published market figures read in October 2026 put a qualified subject tutor working online at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. Budget online provision starts lower, EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Specialist IGCSE and A Level tutors sit at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, TutorChase publishing AED 270, and BartyED publishing AED 650. Those belong to the providers named. Our own first hour is free and a rate follows a marked script.

Which 4MA1 repair gives back the most marks per dirham?+

Written method, followed by rounding discipline. Both recover marks the candidate has already earned mathematically and then failed to collect, so no new content has to be taught. A candidate who reaches the right answer with three lines of calculator arithmetic loses most of the marks on every multi-step question, twice over across two papers. Three or four short cycles of marking their own scripts with method marks itemised typically closes it. Topic gaps cost more per mark, and timing drills are usually free once the first two are fixed.

What does an avoidable Foundation tier entry cost a family later?+

More than the whole tutoring budget, and it appears on no invoice. Foundation caps the grade at the lower part of the scale, so a candidate capable of a 7 receives a grade that limits sixth-form maths options and then university routes, and no later spending reopens them at the same price. Correcting the entry before the centre's Pearson deadline costs nothing at all. For a summer series that deadline often falls before Christmas, which is why the tier question belongs in September, not in March.

Is my child's school already providing maths help I would be paying for twice?+

Very possibly. Dubai schools run catch-up clinics, lunchtime sessions, after-school revision before a series and, in many centres, a full mock programme with marked scripts returned. A paid hour that duplicates a free session your child skipped is pure waste. Find out exactly what the department offers, when it runs and whether your child attends, before buying anything. If the school marks full mocks against the published scheme, you already hold the diagnostic document a tutor would otherwise charge to produce.

How does a small group of four compare with one-to-one on price for 4MA1?+

Cheaper per hour, no cheaper per minute of individual attention. In a group of four a candidate gets roughly a quarter of the tutor's time for roughly a quarter of the price. What a group genuinely buys is one explanation delivered to several people, which works when they all share the same unmet topic and fails when they do not. Four candidates lose marks for four different reasons, and the method-mark work where most recoverable marks sit is irreducibly individual.

What does it cost to enter 4MA1 as a private candidate in Dubai?+

The centre sets it, and it includes the school's own administration charge on top of the entry, so no figure is published here; no reliable sourced number exists for Dubai centres and an invented one would be worse than silence. Ask the examinations officer directly what an additional subject entry and a private candidate entry each cost at that centre. Also confirm that the school accepts external candidates at all, because many do not, and ask before the entry deadline rather than after a disappointing result.

Is a November entry plus a possible May retake more expensive than one summer attempt?+

In entry fees, yes. In total cost, usually not. Pearson offers International GCSE in May/June and November, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, so a November candidate has a real result and a full term to decide. That means buying targeted hours against an evidenced weakness. A May-only candidate with a disappointing August result is buying a year's course again, at a worse moment, with less information. Confirm all dates on the live official timetable at qualifications.pearson.com.

Does starting 4MA1 support in Year 10 cost less overall than a Year 11 rescue?+

Generally yes, because of what the early money compounds into. Factorising and algebraic fractions gate most of the Higher content, so fluency bought in Year 10 reduces the hours needed on everything that follows. Early spend also lets the hardest content be met in the autumn and then taught again by the school in the spring at no cost, and it puts the tier conversation before the entry deadline. Late spend buys paper discipline and damage limitation, which is a legitimate purchase but a different one.

What should a 4MA1 tutoring invoice actually show?+

The hours delivered, the rate, whether the figure is the one you pay, and a tax registration number if the provider holds one. This page does not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition because no Federal Tax Authority citation has been read for it, and a page like this one should not guess at a tax position. What you can insist on is clarity about the final number before paying, and a written reply you keep. Vagueness about the total is worth treating as a warning sign.

Do we pay for a session the candidate misses?+

With us, a session cancelled with notice is not charged, and that is written down rather than implied. It is worth settling this with any provider before money moves, because it is one of the five terms that cause most disputes in this market, along with whether the quoted figure is the final figure, whether an invoice is issued, whether full-paper marking is billed, and how the arrangement ends. Ask all five once, at the start. A reluctance to answer any of them is informative.

Is marking a full 4MA1 paper billed as tutoring time?+

Ask, because providers differ and this is the term most often left vague. Marking a full paper properly against the published scheme, with method marks itemised line by line, takes real time. Some include it in the rate, some bill it separately, and some do not do it at all while implying they do. Ask specifically whether full papers are marked, by whom, and whether that time appears on the invoice. The answer tells you which product you are buying more clearly than any rate does.

My child sits ten subjects. How many should we actually fund tutoring for?+

Three at most, and usually fewer. A candidate tutored in everything has no time left to do the work that tutoring generates, which is where the progress actually comes from. The productive conversation is which three subjects decide the sixth-form offer your child wants, then funding those properly rather than funding ten thinly. Maths is almost always one of the three because it gates so many post-sixteen routes, which is an argument for depth in it rather than for breadth across the timetable.

Does a higher hourly rate buy a better 4MA1 tutor?+

It buys a different product rather than reliably a better person. The main thing the upper bands include is marking: full scripts assessed against the published scheme with the losses classified, plus preparation between sessions. That work does not happen inside an AED 50 hour, and for a candidate losing marks to unstated method it is the only work that matters. For a candidate who simply needs tonight's homework unblocked, the cheaper hour is genuinely sufficient and paying more is waste.

If we could only afford four hours, what should they be spent on?+

One timed paper marked against the published scheme, one session on written method and layout, one on stored-value working and rounding, and one more marked paper to confirm the change held. That sequence recovers marks the candidate has already earned mathematically and then failed to collect, which is the cheapest grade movement available in 4MA1. It also produces evidence for the tier conversation. Four hours spent on topic coverage instead, chosen without a script, is the commonest way this budget is wasted.

Our search said home tutor, so where does a 4MA1 lesson actually happen?+

Over live video, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, with slots moved to post-Iftar timing through Ramadan. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; that service runs only in India. The candidate writes and the tutor watches the working appear line by line, so corrections land at the step where the error happened. Removing the journey also removes the travel premium inside the published in-home band of roughly AED 180 to AED 500, which over two years is a real saving.

Does a 4MA1 tutor in Dubai need a permit, and does it cost us anything?+

A permit is required and it costs the family nothing. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services under the service name Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a stated two working day completion time. Individuals tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts has been published, so none is quoted.

The first number is a marked script, not a rate

If you are pricing an Edexcel IGCSE Maths A 4MA1 home tutor in Dubai, the cheapest useful step costs nothing: ask the maths department for the specification code, the tier, the entry deadline and what free intervention the school runs, then find a marked mock paper. Bring that script to the free first hour and a tutor will tell you whether the shortfall is method, rounding, content or timing, and roughly what each is costing per paper. A rate and an hour count follow that conversation rather than preceding it. Lessons run one-to-one over live video; no tutor is sent to a UAE address.
