IB MYP Sciences Tutor in Dubai

An IB MYP sciences tutor in Dubai costs the market between AED 45 and AED 450 an hour, and the gap is not about quality alone. It is about who holds the MoHRE permit, who has marked criterion B and criterion C work before, and whether the hour is taught or spent half in traffic. This page publishes the AED bands with their sources, names what moves them in this emirate, and sets out what an hour of science teaching buys at each MYP year. Lessons are delivered live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Every AED figure here is attributed to a published source and a date
  • Criteria A to D explained strand by strand, with the marks attached
  • One-to-one lessons over live video on Gulf Standard Time, no travel inside the fee

What an hour of MYP science teaching costs in Dubai, and why the range is so wide

Parents who ring round for MYP science help in Dubai are quoted anything between AED 45 and AED 650 an hour, and almost nobody explains the spread. The low end is real: EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65, and Tutopiya lists online sessions from AED 33 to AED 52. The high end is real too: BartyED publishes AED 650 for a premium named tutor and TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate's Dubai rate table for 2026 puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350 and subject specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. Those are the market's own published numbers, read in October 2026, not ours.

What a rate card hides is what the hour contains. A university student charging AED 60 can explain photosynthesis clearly. Reading a criterion B task sheet, noticing that the student has written a hypothesis with no independent variable named, and then rewriting the student's own method until the control variables are explicit, is a different skill. It is also the skill MYP grades are built from. The programme does not award marks for recall alone. Four criteria, each marked out of 8, give a total out of 32, and criteria B, C and D together account for three-quarters of that total.

The second thing a rate card hides is Dubai. A tutor driving from Mirdif to Dubai Marina at five in the afternoon is paid for one hour and absorbs ninety minutes of Sheikh Zayed Road either side of it, so the quoted fee carries the travel inside it. That is why in-home bands sit above online bands in every published table in this market. It is also why a family in The Springs often ends up with whoever is geographically convenient rather than whoever has marked MYP 5 chemistry before.

Dubai's school market makes specialist scarcity sharper than it first looks. The emirate had 387,441 private-school students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with British-curriculum schools at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26 per cent, American at 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent. Seven in every hundred is a thin slice of a very large market, and MYP sciences inside that slice is thinner again. Most science tutors working in Dubai have taught Cambridge IGCSE 0620 or CBSE science far more often than they have marked a criterion C graph.

So this page is built around the number. It publishes what MYP sciences tuition costs in Dubai with each figure attributed, sets out what moves those figures in this emirate specifically, maps the marks each criterion carries so you can see what an hour is buying, and puts tutoring beside Dubai school fees, which KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 will not rise for the 2026-27 academic year. IB Gram's own model is one-to-one online teaching with a trial lesson before anything is paid for, so treat the bands below as context for your decision rather than as a price list.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

MYP sciences does not sit on its own. Dubai's IB continuum schools run the Primary Years Programme from FS2, the Middle Years Programme from Year 7, and the Diploma Programme from Year 12, and several run IGCSE alongside or instead at 16. What a science hour has to achieve depends on which of these your child is in now and which one comes next.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS2 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Science in the PYP is taught inside transdisciplinary units rather than as a named subject, so a Year 6 student can be a confident inquirer with no formal grasp of variables, units or graph conventions. The gap shows up in MYP 1 within a term, usually as marks lost on criterion C for axes, scales and lines of best fit rather than on any point of knowledge.

Several Dubai schools, among them Dubai American Academy and Dubai International Academy Al Barsha, run the full continuum, so the PYP to MYP step happens inside one campus. Families moving in from a British primary in Dubai arrive at MYP 1 having done more structured practical write-ups and less independent inquiry, and the two groups lose marks in opposite places during the first year.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11 (MYP 1-5)

Middle Years Programme

Sciences is one of the eight MYP subject groups and is assessed against four criteria, each out of 8: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. In MYP 1 to 3 it is usually taught as integrated sciences by one teacher. In MYP 4 and 5 most schools split it into biology, chemistry and physics with separate specialists and separate criterion tasks.

In Dubai the split year matters for budgeting. A family paying for one integrated science tutor in MYP 3 can find they need two or three subject specialists in MYP 4, which is where tutoring costs in this emirate typically double. Schools licensed by KHDA also run Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the MYP, so the week your child has free for science is narrower than the timetable suggests.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The Diploma Programme sciences are taken at Standard or Higher Level with an internal assessment and externally marked papers. The jump from MYP 5 is less about content than about quantitative handling: uncertainties, propagated error, logarithmic relationships and the discipline of a formal evaluation. Students who scored well on criterion A and poorly on criterion C in MYP 5 are the ones who struggle most in DP year one.

Dubai families often decide between DP sciences and A Level sciences at the end of MYP 5, and the choice is frequently made on which school has places rather than on which route suits the student. A tutor who has seen both routes in this city can tell you honestly whether a student who needs scaffolding for criterion B will cope with a DP internal assessment designed from scratch.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE

Many Dubai students sit IGCSE sciences at 16 instead of finishing MYP 5, either because they change school or because their school offers both. Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences and the separate 0610, 0620 and 0625 syllabuses are terminal and externally examined, with no criterion-based coursework, so the skills that earn MYP marks are weighted very differently.

Because British-curriculum schools hold 37 per cent of Dubai enrolment, mid-year transfers from MYP into IGCSE are common here, and the reverse happens too. Cambridge runs June and November series with centres allocated to one of six administrative zones, and the zone timetable governs your child's dates, so a transfer in Year 10 needs the receiving school's exams officer consulted early.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What follows is the MYP science work Dubai families most often ask for, written as the tasks a tutor actually sits with rather than as a subject list. The criterion strands are listed separately because that is how marks are awarded, and because a parent reading a report line cannot tell from the grade alone which strand went wrong.

MYP Integrated Sciences

MYP 1-3

Taught as one subject spanning biology, chemistry and physics content with a shared set of criteria. The usual problem is not comprehension but transfer: a student who can define density cannot calculate it from an irregular object's displacement reading. Sessions here work best on applied question sets rather than revision notes.

MYP Biology

MYP 4-5

Cells, transport, genetics, ecology and human systems, with heavy demands on scientific vocabulary and diagram labelling. Marks go missing on criterion A when an answer describes a process correctly in everyday language without using the terms the mark scheme expects, which is a fixable problem inside three or four sessions.

MYP Chemistry

MYP 4-5

Particle model, bonding, reaction types, rates and the beginnings of mole arithmetic. The common break point is quantitative: students can balance an equation and still cannot convert grams to moles reliably under time pressure, which then costs them on criterion C when processing titration or mass-change data.

MYP Physics

MYP 4-5

Forces, motion, energy, waves and electricity, where the underlying arithmetic does most of the damage. Rearranging an equation, handling standard form and reading a gradient off a graph are the three skills that separate a 5 from a 7, and none of them is taught as physics content.

Criterion A: Knowing and understanding

0-8 marks

Recall, application to unfamiliar situations and analysis of information to make scientifically supported judgements. It is the strand that moves fastest with teaching, because command terms are learnable: state, describe, explain, outline and evaluate each demand a different shape of answer.

Criterion B: Inquiring and designing

0-8 marks

Explaining a problem, writing a testable hypothesis with scientific reasoning, naming independent, dependent and controlled variables, and designing a safe, replicable method. The highest-value tutoring in MYP sciences is here, because the same corrections apply across every investigation the student will ever write.

Criterion C: Processing and evaluating

0-8 marks

Presenting data in correct form, interpreting it, stating a conclusion that explicitly answers the hypothesis, and evaluating validity, reliability and improvements. Students routinely merge conclusion and evaluation into one paragraph and lose both strands, which is a structural fix rather than a knowledge one.

Criterion D: Reflecting on the impacts of science

0-8 marks

Applying science to address a specific problem or issue, discussing implications, using scientific language and documenting sources correctly. UAE contexts work well here, from desalination energy cost to construction dust and air quality, and a cited local source scores better than a generic global example.

MYP 5 on-screen eAssessment preparation

MYP 5

Schools that register for MYP eAssessment sit on-screen examinations in sciences, which reward speed of reading, careful use of the supplied data and tight written answers. Practising on paper only is poor preparation, so sessions move to screen-shared question work and timed response drills.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of support cover most MYP science requests in Dubai, and they cost different amounts because they contain different amounts of work. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the school week.

Weekly one-to-one, term-long

One sixty-minute session a week through the term, following the school's own unit sequence so the tutor is always working on what is being taught now. This is the cheapest effective option per unit of progress because nothing is wasted on re-establishing context at the start of each session.

  • Same tutor and same slot each week
  • Session notes sent afterwards for parents who were at work
  • Reschedules handled up to the previous evening
  • Works out lowest per-hour of the three shapes

Criterion task sprint

Two to four sessions around a single criterion B, C or D task, from the brief to the final draft of the student's own work. The tutor reads the task sheet, questions the plan, challenges the hypothesis and gives written feedback on the student's draft. The student writes every word themselves.

  • Starts from your child's actual task sheet and rubric
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never any writing on their behalf
  • Rarely offered as a group class, because the work is one student's data
  • Priced by session, not retained for the term

eAssessment and end-of-year block

A six to eight week block before MYP 5 on-screen examinations or end-of-year summatives, run twice a week with timed question practice on screen. Rates across this market rise for exam-year blocks, so book the slot early in the term rather than six weeks out.

  • Timed on-screen question practice, not paper worksheets
  • A marked script returned after every second session
  • Twice weekly for six to eight weeks is the usual shape
  • Pause rather than cancel during school examination weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What an IB MYP sciences tutor in Dubai costs, with every figure sourced

  • Online one-to-one in Dubai: roughly AED 45-300 an hour by tutor qualification
  • In-home one-to-one: roughly AED 180-500, with travel carried inside the fee
  • Premium named tutors: AED 500 and above, per BartyED's published AED 650
  • Group of two to four: cheaper per student, and unsuitable for criterion task work

Start with the published numbers rather than a brochure. Across the Dubai providers whose rates are actually visible, online one-to-one sits roughly between AED 45 and AED 300 an hour depending on the tutor's qualification, in-home one-to-one sits between AED 180 and AED 500 because the travel is inside the fee, and premium named tutors sit above AED 500. Those bands come from the providers' own pages, read in October 2026. They are quoted here as the market, not as an IB Gram price list.

The table splits those bands by MYP phase, because the work is not the same at every year. MYP 1 to 3 integrated sciences is largely knowledge, vocabulary and simple data handling, and a careful generalist teaches it well. MYP 4 and 5, where most Dubai IB continuum schools separate biology, chemistry and physics, needs someone who has marked criterion work at that level and can tell a weak hypothesis from a weak method. The step between those two rows is the largest single jump on the table, and it is the one families budget for least.

Two cells are deliberately marked as not usually offered. Criterion task coaching and eAssessment preparation are rarely sold as group classes, because the work is specific to one student's own draft method or one student's own data set. Four students cannot share a criterion B rewrite. If a provider in Dubai does quote a group rate for that work, ask precisely what the group does for the hour, because the answer is usually a generic lesson on how investigations work rather than anything attached to your child's task.

Five things that move the number in this emirate specifically

  • The MYP 4 subject split, which can double a monthly spend with no rate change
  • Travel time, which is why in-home bands sit above online bands everywhere in Dubai
  • Exam-year demand before MYP 5 on-screen assessments and end-of-year summatives
  • The KHDA mandatory-subject load competing for the same weekday evenings
  • A thin pool of MYP-experienced science teachers against a large IGCSE market

The first is the MYP 4 subject split. A household paying for one integrated science tutor in MYP 3 often needs two or three specialists in MYP 4, so the monthly figure doubles without the hourly rate changing at all. Families who plan for this a term ahead usually choose one specialist plus a fortnightly review of the other two subjects, rather than three weekly sessions they cannot sustain.

The second is travel. Dubai's geography prices in-home tutoring in a way that has nothing to do with teaching. A tutor crossing from Al Qusais to Arabian Ranches at 5pm commits an evening for one paid hour, and that is why the in-home column in the table above sits consistently above the online column. Online removes the premium and, more usefully, removes the geographic limit on who can teach your child.

The third is the exam-year premium: rates across this market firm up in the weeks before MYP 5 on-screen assessments and end-of-year summatives, because supply is fixed and demand is not. The fourth is the mandatory UAE subject load. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, so the hours available in a week for anything else are genuinely fewer here than in a comparable school abroad. The fifth is scarcity: the International Baccalaureate accounts for 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment, so MYP-experienced science teachers are a small pool competing against a much larger IGCSE and CBSE market.

03

What the hour is actually buying: the four criteria and their marks

A parent looking at an MYP report sees a grade and a comment, not a strand breakdown, which makes it almost impossible to tell what to buy. The criteria are the answer. Sciences is assessed against four, each marked out of 8 for a total out of 32, and they reward entirely different things. Criterion A is knowledge and its application. Criterion B is the design of an investigation. Criterion C is what the student does with data afterwards. Criterion D is the reflection on science in the real world, including the documentation of sources.

Knowing which one is weak changes the price of fixing it. Criterion A responds quickly to teaching, because most of the loss is command terms: a student who writes a description when the question says explain is losing marks on structure, not understanding, and that is a handful of sessions. Criterion B is the highest-value work in the programme, because the corrections transfer to every investigation the student will write for the next three years. Criterion C is mechanical and therefore cheap to fix once diagnosed, and criterion D is often lost purely on referencing.

Use the table to turn a report line into a shopping list. Ask your child's science teacher which criterion the last two summatives scored lowest on, then buy against that rather than against the subject. A tutor who asks for the criterion breakdown in the first message is reading the programme correctly. One who offers general science support by the month is selling hours rather than marks, and in a market where an hour runs from AED 45 to AED 650, that distinction is the whole decision.

Tutoring cost in context: what it looks like beside Dubai school fees

Tutoring is usually judged against other tutoring, which is the wrong comparison. Judge it against the rest of the education budget. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the second of Dubai's economic incentives packages valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For most families that is the first year in some time where the school line in the household budget is flat, which makes it the sensible year to spend deliberately on a specific weakness rather than reactively in April.

Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions give the shape of the commitment: roughly AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget tier, AED 600 to AED 1,200 at the mid tier, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist support in an examination year. Packages advertised in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, which is a useful indication of what the travel component costs when it is itemised.

Two context points are worth holding. Dubai's private sector is still expanding, with seven new private schools opening for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places after six openings in 2025-26 and a 6 per cent rise in enrolment. More IB places means more MYP students and the same thin pool of MYP-experienced science teachers, so booking a regular slot early in the academic year is worth more than negotiating the rate. And if the budget is genuinely tight, a fortnightly session that runs all year beats a weekly one abandoned in November.

How many hours a term an MYP science student actually needs

  • MYP 1-3: one weekly session for one term, aimed at a habit not a syllabus
  • MYP 4: one weekly plus one fortnightly, about eighteen hours a term
  • MYP 5: a six to eight week block of twice-weekly timed practice
  • Secure students: one monthly session reviewing a marked script

The honest answer depends on the year group, and buying more than the year needs is the most common way Dubai families waste money on tutoring. In MYP 1 to 3 the usual pattern is one session a week for a single term, aimed at a specific habit rather than at the subject: graph conventions, unit discipline, reading a question properly. Twelve sessions of that work, done once and done properly in MYP 2, saves money every year afterwards, because criterion C habits are durable.

In MYP 4, the split year, the shape changes. One weekly session in the weakest of the three sciences plus a fortnightly review in the second weakest covers most students, which is about eighteen hours across a term rather than thirty-six. Three weekly sessions in three sciences looks thorough on paper and in practice produces a student with no evening left for homework, which is why it tends to be abandoned by half term and paid for in full.

In MYP 5 the calendar drives it. Schools running on-screen eAssessment set internal deadlines well before the external window, and the productive block is six to eight weeks of twice-weekly timed practice, roughly twelve to sixteen hours, front-loaded so the last fortnight is revision of marked work rather than new teaching. For a student who is already secure, a monthly check-in that reviews one marked script is enough and costs a fraction of a retained weekly slot. Ask for the smallest intervention that addresses the named criterion, and raise it only if the next marked piece says you need to.

06

Is a cheaper tutor in Dubai legally permitted to teach your child?

  • Permit basis: Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, administered by MoHRE
  • Cost: granted free of charge, valid for two years
  • Route: MoHRE private tutor licensing service, two working days, no fee listed
  • Ask directly to see the permit before the first paid session

Price and legality are connected in this market, and almost nobody writing about Dubai tutoring says so. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are broad: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so no amount can honestly be quoted.

Because the permit costs nothing, a tutor who does not hold one has no financial excuse. The official route is MoHRE's own service, listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit for Private Tutor Licensing, with no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system. A parent can simply ask to see the permit. A tutor who has one will show it; a tutor who deflects the question has answered it.

There is a second limit worth knowing in this country. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That rule has been press-reported rather than read here from the current ADEK document, so verify it against ADEK before relying on it. The practical point holds anyway: an arrangement where your child's own science teacher tutors them privately for a fee is one to avoid, however convenient it looks.

07

The MYP 4 science split, and what it does to a household budget

The single largest change in MYP science spending happens at the start of MYP 4, and it catches almost every family that has not been warned. Until then, one teacher taught integrated sciences and one tutor could cover it. From MYP 4, most Dubai IB continuum schools run biology, chemistry and physics separately, with three teachers, three sets of criterion tasks and three sets of deadlines that do not coordinate. The tutoring question changes from who can teach science to which of the three is costing marks, and why.

In practice the three sciences fail for different reasons, which is why a single tutor across all three is usually the wrong purchase at this level. Biology loses marks on vocabulary and on the precision of written explanation. Chemistry loses them on quantitative work, particularly mole arithmetic and the processing of mass and volume data. Physics loses them on algebra and graph gradients. A tutor who is strong on one of those three is not automatically useful on the other two, and paying one rate for all three usually means paying a specialist rate for generalist teaching.

A workable approach is to spend on the weakest subject weekly and treat the other two diagnostically. Ask for one session in each of the other two sciences at the start of term, with a written note afterwards of what the marked work shows. If the note says habits rather than content, the fix belongs in the weekly session you are already paying for. If it says a genuine content gap, add a short block rather than a retained slot. That keeps the MYP 4 figure closer to the single-subject bands in the table above than to three times them.

08

When the cheapest option is the wrong one: coverage and the honest fallback

  • Coverage limits are stated before you book, not afterwards
  • A tutor outside the UAE teaching into Gulf Standard Time is disclosed in advance
  • Delivery is online one-to-one in every case, so location changes only the timetable
  • Buy against a named criterion, not against a subject or a month

No platform covers every subject and level in every time slot, and claiming otherwise is how families end up with a mismatched tutor two weeks before a summative. MYP sciences at MYP 4 and 5 level is one of the narrower requests in this market, and the narrowest of all is a specific criterion task in a specific science at a specific evening hour. It is better to say that plainly than to accept a booking and improvise.

What happens here when the exact match is not free: we say so, we say when the slot is likely to open, and we offer the nearest honest alternative, which is usually a different evening with the right specialist rather than the right evening with the wrong one. Where no UAE-based specialist covers a niche MYP science request, the tutor may be based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time, which is disclosed before you book rather than discovered afterwards. Delivery is online either way, so the tutor's location affects the timetable and nothing else.

The thing not to buy is a cheap hour that does not address the named criterion. An AED 60 session on general science revision in the fortnight before an MYP 5 on-screen assessment is cheaper than an AED 250 session on the student's own marked script, and it is also worth less than nothing, because it consumes an evening that the marked script needed. Spend against a diagnosis, start with the trial lesson, and increase only when a marked piece of work says the current plan is not enough.

Where we tutor

Where in Dubai families ask for MYP science help

Lessons are online, so an address in Dubai changes nothing about who teaches your child. It does change what time a session can realistically start, because school-run and office traffic differ sharply by community. These are the practical notes families in each area give us when we set a weekly slot.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Apartment living with no spare study room, so sessions happen at a kitchen table with headphones. Families here usually want a 6pm or later start because secondary buses are slow out of the tower cluster.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Closest to several IB continuum campuses, so students arrive home early and 4.30pm slots work. Also where we see the most MYP 4 students needing two science specialists at once after the subject split.

Mirdif and Al Qusais

Long bus runs for students attending IB schools on the other side of the creek. A 5pm start is usually optimistic; 6.30pm sticks better across a whole term, which matters more than the rate.

Dubai Hills Estate and Meydan

Villa communities with purpose-built study space and reliable fibre, so screen-shared graph work and simulations run smoothly. Families here most often ask about MYP to DP science preparation a year ahead.

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Safa

Mixed British and IB enrolment within a few streets, so siblings are often on different curricula. Sessions here frequently cover one MYP 4 physics student and one IGCSE 0625 student in the same household.

Arabian Ranches, The Springs and The Lakes

The communities where in-home tutoring is quoted highest in Dubai, because the drive out and back eats an evening. Online removes that premium entirely and widens the choice of subject specialist.

Business Bay and Downtown Dubai

Working parents who want a session they can sit in on for the last ten minutes. We keep a written summary after each lesson for exactly this group, since nobody is home to ask how it went.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Western Dubai — Marina, Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim and The Meadows

The densest concentration of IB continuum provision in the emirate, which means MYP 4 subject splits happen early and the demand for separate biology, chemistry and physics support is highest here. Students from these campuses arrive with criterion task sheets written in the school's own format.

  • Dubai American Academy
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Emirates International School Meadows

Eastern and central Dubai — Al Jaddaf, Festival City and Mirdif

A smaller cluster where one or two schools carry most of the MYP enrolment for a wide catchment, so a student who falls behind has fewer in-school options and a longer commute to anything else. Online sessions matter more to this group than to any other in Dubai.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Uptown International School
  • Universal American School

Southern Dubai — Dubailand, The Sustainable City, Dubai Investments Park and Al Barsha South

Newer campuses in fast-growing communities, several running the continuum from PYP upward. Criterion D work here often uses the community itself as the authentic context, which is a genuine advantage when sustainability is the subject of the task.

  • Fairgreen International School
  • Greenfield International School
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches

Schools are named here as context for the Dubai education market only; IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or relationship to any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the criterion, not just the subject

The first message that helps is short and specific: MYP year, which science, which criterion the last two summatives scored lowest on, and the school. If you do not have the criterion breakdown, ask your child's science teacher for it, or send a photograph of the last marked task sheet and we will read it from there.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, with the condition stated

The trial is one forty-five-minute online session at no charge, with no card details taken and nothing to cancel afterwards. It is a teaching session rather than a sales call: the tutor works on the actual task or marked script you send, and you get a written note of what the work showed and what a term of sessions would target.

  3. 03

Agree a shape and a slot that survives the term

Pick the pattern from the options above that fits the MYP year and the household. The slot matters more than the rate, because a session that collides with a school bus or a weekly commitment gets rescheduled twice and then quietly dropped. Choose a time you can hold through examination weeks and Ramadan.

  4. 04

Work on marked evidence, every fortnight

Every second session uses a piece of the student's own marked or drafted work rather than a worksheet. The tutor questions the plan, points at the strand that lost the marks, and sends a written note. That note is what tells you whether the hours are working, which no hourly rate can tell you on its own.

  5. 05

Change the dosage when the evidence says to

Reduce to fortnightly when the marked work stabilises, and add a short block before an on-screen assessment or an end-of-year summative. Pause rather than cancel during school examination weeks. The aim is the smallest sustained intervention that keeps the named criterion moving, not the largest package the budget will bear.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The AED figures come with sources

Every rate on this page is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the month it was read. Three of the six competitor pages examined for this cluster publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. A parent in Dubai transacts in dirhams and deserves to see the market before being sold inside it.

Criterion-level teaching, not general science support

MYP marks are awarded against four criteria out of 8 each, so support that is not aimed at a named criterion is aimed at nothing in particular. Sessions start from the student's own marked task and the school's own rubric, which is why the first message we ask for is the criterion breakdown rather than a list of topics.

Online one-to-one, with the travel premium removed

Published in-home bands in Dubai sit well above online bands because an evening of Sheikh Zayed Road is inside the fee. Teaching over live video removes that cost and the geographic limit behind it, so a family in Arabian Ranches can work with an MYP chemistry specialist rather than the nearest available generalist.

The permit question answered openly

Private tuition in the UAE runs on a MoHRE permit issued free for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. We explain what it is, who is eligible and how to ask to see one. IB Gram holds no regulator accreditation and claims none; what we can do is tell you exactly what to check.

Honest boundaries on assessed work

A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on work the student has written. No part of a criterion task, a Personal Project or any assessed piece is ever supplied on a student's behalf, and we will tell a parent plainly when a request crosses that line. The alternative is an academic-honesty finding that follows the student much longer than a poor grade would.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IB MYP sciences tutor in Dubai charge per hour?+

Published rates in this market run from about AED 45 an hour at the budget online tier to AED 650 for a premium named tutor. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52; Unitors lists IB support from AED 200; TutorChase quotes around AED 270; BartyED publishes AED 650. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350 and subject specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. For MYP 4 and 5 sciences specifically, expect the qualified online band of roughly AED 150 to AED 300 rather than the entry tier.

Why is MYP science tutoring priced above IGCSE science tutoring in Dubai?+

Supply, mostly. The International Baccalaureate accounts for 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment against 37 per cent for British curricula, so a tutor who has marked MYP criterion tasks is drawn from a much smaller pool than one who has taught Cambridge IGCSE. The work also differs: MYP marks reward hypothesis design, variable control and evaluation, which cannot be taught from a past-paper bank the way a terminal IGCSE syllabus largely can. A tutor who quotes the same rate for both without asking which criterion is weak is usually pricing IGCSE work and planning to deliver it.

Is the hourly rate lower if my two children share one MYP science session?+

Group rates in this market do sit lower per student, typically around AED 40 to AED 90 an hour each at the MYP 1 to 3 level and AED 70 to AED 130 at MYP 4 and 5. Whether that is good value depends on the work. Two siblings in the same MYP year with the same weak criterion can share an hour productively. Two children in different years, or one needing criterion B design help and the other needing graph work, cannot, and the hour ends up half-useful to both. Criterion task coaching on a student's own draft is not shareable at all.

Do MYP science tutoring rates in Dubai go up before the MYP 5 on-screen assessments?+

Effectively yes, though it shows up as scarcity rather than a published increase. Supply of MYP-experienced science tutors is fixed in the short term and demand concentrates in the weeks before internal deadlines and on-screen eAssessment sittings, so the affordable evening slots disappear first and what remains is the specialist end of the band. The practical response is to book a regular slot early in the academic year, even fortnightly, rather than trying to buy a block six weeks out when the only availability left is at the AED 300 and above end.

Does the price we are quoted for tutoring in Dubai include VAT?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing before the first paid session. The UAE VAT treatment of tuition depends on the provider's own registration status and the nature of the service, and we do not state the tax position of other providers as fact here. What a parent should insist on is simple: whether the figure quoted is the figure payable, whether it is per hour or per session, and whether a session shorter than sixty minutes is billed as a full hour. Those three answers remove almost every billing dispute families report in this market.

How many tutoring hours does an MYP 4 science student in Dubai usually need?+

About eighteen hours across a term covers most students, structured as one weekly session in the weakest of the three sciences plus a fortnightly review of the second weakest. Three weekly sessions across biology, chemistry and physics looks thorough and generally collapses by half term, because it leaves no evening for homework. In MYP 1 to 3 a single weekly session for one term, aimed at one habit such as graph conventions or unit discipline, is usually enough and holds its value for years afterwards.

Is a cheaper private tutor in Dubai legally allowed to teach my child?+

Only with a permit. Private tuition in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, which is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any specific figure you read with scepticism. Because the permit is free, ask to see it; a tutor who deflects has given you the answer.

What does an MYP sciences grade out of 32 mean on my child's report?+

It is the sum of four criterion scores, each marked from 0 to 8: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. The school converts that total into a 1 to 7 grade using the MYP boundaries it applies, so ask the MYP coordinator for the exact table rather than assuming a percentage. The useful figure for buying tutoring is not the total but the four parts: a student on 7 for criterion A and 3 for criterion C has a specific, cheap problem, while flat scores of 5 across all four need something broader.

Can one tutor cover MYP biology, chemistry and physics for the same student?+

For MYP 1 to 3 integrated sciences, yes, and it is the sensible purchase. From MYP 4, when most Dubai schools split the three, it is usually the wrong one. The three fail for different reasons: biology on vocabulary and written precision, chemistry on mole arithmetic and quantitative data handling, physics on algebra and graph gradients. A tutor strong in one is not automatically useful in the other two. Buy a specialist for the weakest subject weekly, and treat the other two with a diagnostic session and a written note at the start of term.

What does it cost if we only need help with one criterion B investigation?+

Criterion task coaching sits in the specialist band in this market, roughly AED 200 to AED 350 an hour online, and the usual shape is two to four sessions from the task brief to the student's final draft. The tutor reads the school's rubric and task sheet, interrogates the hypothesis and the variable list, and gives written feedback on the student's own draft. The student writes every word. It is more expensive per hour than general support and often cheaper overall, because the corrections apply to every investigation the student writes for the rest of the programme.

Is online MYP science tuition genuinely cheaper than a home tutor in Dubai?+

Yes, and the published bands show why. Online one-to-one in Dubai sits at roughly AED 45 to AED 300 an hour depending on qualification, while in-home one-to-one sits at roughly AED 180 to AED 500, with advertised monthly packages of about AED 799 online against AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 in-home. The difference is travel, not teaching. A tutor crossing the city at 5pm commits an evening for one paid hour. IB Gram does not provide in-home visits in the UAE at all; our lessons are one-to-one over live video, with in-home teaching offered only in India.

Do we pay for a session we cancel the night before?+

Our own slots can be moved up to the previous evening without a charge, and we would rather move a session than have a tired student sit through one after a late school event. What matters more generally is asking the question before you commit anywhere in this market, because cancellation terms are where quoted hourly rates quietly become real monthly costs. Ask three things in writing: the notice period, whether a missed session is forfeited or banked, and what happens to a prepaid block if the tutor becomes unavailable mid-term.

How does the Dubai school fee freeze for 2026-27 change our tutoring budget?+

KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. For many households that is a flat school line for the first time in several years, which makes this a reasonable year to spend deliberately rather than reactively. Spending deliberately means a diagnosed criterion and a sustainable fortnightly or weekly slot from September, rather than an emergency block of specialist hours in the spring.

What happens if no MYP sciences specialist is free at the hour we want?+

We say so, and we say when the slot is likely to open. The usual honest alternative is a different evening with the right specialist rather than your preferred evening with the wrong one, because a mismatched tutor two weeks before a summative costs more than a week of waiting. Where no UAE-based tutor covers a narrow MYP science request, the tutor may be based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time, and that is disclosed before you book. Delivery is online one-to-one in every case, so the tutor's location affects only the timetable.

Start with the criterion, then look at the rate

Dubai's tutoring market prices an hour anywhere from AED 45 to AED 650, and the number on its own tells a parent almost nothing. What tells you something is the criterion breakdown on the last two marked summatives, the MYP year your child is in, and whether the three sciences have split yet. Send those three things with a photograph of a marked task sheet, take the free trial lesson, and read the written note that follows it. If the note does not name a criterion and a change to make, you have learned something useful about the tutor and spent nothing. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the school week.
