IB MYP Language and Literature Tutor in Dubai

The useful unit of cost for an IB MYP Language and Literature tutor in Dubai is not the hour. It is the marked essay. Annotating one analytical response against four criteria takes a tutor 30 to 45 minutes, and whether that work sits inside the rate you were quoted is the largest single difference between two Dubai quotes that look alike. This page sets out the market bands in AED, what each line item actually costs to deliver, and how to budget a year. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Why English support is priced differently from mathematics

Ask five Dubai providers for a rate for MYP Language and Literature and you will get five numbers, and the spread will be wider than for any other core subject. That is not disorder; it is the market pricing a genuinely variable product. A mathematics session ends when the hour ends. A Language and Literature session generates a piece of writing that someone has to read and annotate before the next lesson, and that reading is the part nobody puts on an invoice.

The arithmetic is simple enough to do at the kitchen table. A 1,000-word analytical response marked properly against the four MYP criteria, analysing, organising, producing text and using language, takes a tutor between 30 and 45 minutes. Not skimmed and given a grade: read, annotated strand by strand, with specific rewrites indicated. If a tutor teaches a 60-minute session and marks one essay a week, they have delivered roughly 100 minutes of work for a one-hour fee. Either the hourly rate reflects that, or the marking is not happening, or the tutor is absorbing it and will eventually stop.

Which is why the first question about any Dubai quote for this subject is not how much, but what is inside it. Published market rates for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with IB and IGCSE specialists advertised at AED 200 to 450 and a premium tier quoting AED 500 to 650. Monthly packages appear in the market at around AED 799 for eight online sessions. Those figures were compiled in October 2026 from published UAE provider pages and a Dubai rate survey, and they are market rates rather than ours. None of them tells you whether an essay gets read.

There is a second reason English prices high in this city, and it is about supply. A large share of Dubai MYP cohorts work in English as an additional language, and the demand for writing support is correspondingly heavy. At the same time the tutors who can mark MYP criterion A analysis properly, as distinct from correcting grammar, are a narrower group than the number of people who can teach English conversationally. Scarce skill plus heavy demand produces a firm price, and it also produces a lot of quotes from people who will correct spelling and call it literature tuition.

The third reason is less obvious and matters most in exam-heavy years. Writing improves slowly and visibly, which makes it easy to keep paying for and hard to know when to stop. A mathematics gap closes and the student can do the questions. A writing gap narrows over months, and without a criterion record a family can fund a weekly session for two years on the strength of a general sense that it is helping. The honest version of this subject's cost conversation includes a view on when to stop, which is in the last section of this page.

Everything here is delivered one-to-one over live video, with the student's own writing shared on screen, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; that service runs only in India. The relevant consequence for price is that no part of the rate is travel, and the full fee buys teaching and marking.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The cost of language support rises through the IB continuum, and it rises in steps rather than smoothly. Each step corresponds to a change in what is being assessed rather than to a change in reading difficulty.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Reading and writing develop inside transdisciplinary units, assessed through portfolios rather than criteria. Support at this stage is generally priced at the bottom of the Dubai market, often in 30 or 45-minute sessions, because there is no extended analytical writing to mark between lessons and the work is largely oral and practical.

The cheapest and most effective language intervention in Dubai is still reading volume at home, which costs nothing. Families who pay for specialist English support in Year 4 or 5 are frequently buying reassurance. Where there is a genuine difficulty, a short diagnostic block is better value than an open-ended weekly arrangement at this age.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Language and Literature is assessed on four criteria out of eight each: analysing, organising, producing text and using language. Extended writing arrives from Year 1 and intensifies from Year 3, which is also where the market price steps up, because marking becomes the bulk of the work rather than an extra.

Dubai rates for MYP English sit between general secondary support and Diploma specialist support. Years 3 and 4 are the efficient place to spend: the same analytical writing weakness addressed in the Diploma costs materially more per hour and arrives under time pressure, alongside the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

English A at Language and Literature or Literature, with external papers, an individual oral and a higher level essay in some routes. The published Dubai specialist band of AED 200 to 450 an hour applies here, and support is often sold as blocks of hours around the internal assessment rather than as weekly sessions.

A Dubai rate survey estimates specialist exam-year monthly spend at AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for weekly one-hour sessions. Across two Diploma years that is a substantial household figure, and it is the clearest financial case for closing MYP writing gaps while the stakes and the rates are both lower.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Includes a personal and professional skills course and a reflective project, both of which demand clear extended writing, alongside any Diploma courses the student takes. Language support here is usually bought in short blocks around the reflective project rather than as a continuous arrangement.

A small number of Dubai schools offer the CP, so the private market for it is thin and quotes vary more than for the Diploma. Confirm the course structure with the school's coordinator before agreeing any block of hours, since what is actually being assessed differs from the Diploma pattern.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Writing support rarely stays inside one subject, and a family's spend is often better placed than they expect. These are the areas where MYP Language and Literature work overlaps with other subjects, and therefore where one paid hour does double duty.

Analytical writing

Criterion A, MYP Years 1-5

Analysing content, context, language, structure, technique and style, and the effects of a writer's choices on an audience. This is the costliest strand to support because every attempt needs individual annotation, and it is the strand most often mistaken for a grammar problem.

Essay structure and organisation

Criterion B, MYP Years 1-5

Organisational structures that serve the intention, ideas sustained coherently, and referencing and formatting used appropriately. The cheapest strand to fix, because it responds to a taught template, and the one that produces the fastest visible mark movement.

Creative and transactional text production

Criterion C, MYP Years 1-5

Producing texts that show thought and imagination, making stylistic choices with an audience in mind, and selecting relevant detail. Priced like analytical work because the marking is just as individual, and often neglected because families associate English tuition with essays alone.

Grammar, syntax and register

Criterion D, MYP Years 1-5

Varied vocabulary and sentence structures, register and style serving the context, and accuracy in grammar, syntax, punctuation and spelling. The strand most tutors offer and the one least likely to be the actual problem for a student sitting at 4 or 5.

Oral and spoken assessment

Criteria C and D, MYP Years 1-5

MYP Language and Literature assesses speaking as well as writing, including non-verbal technique. Rehearsal time is cheap to deliver, since nothing needs marking afterwards, so it is worth asking for explicitly rather than paying essay rates for it.

Individuals and Societies written work

MYP Years 1-5

Criterion C in humanities marks communication and documentation of sources. A student whose writing improves in English picks up those marks without additional hours, which is why English support is often the better buy when both subjects are weak.

Sciences extended response

MYP Years 1-5

Criterion D in Sciences asks for balanced discussion of applications of science, and the evaluation strands demand sustained argued paragraphs. Families paying separately for science writing support are usually paying twice for the same skill.

Language Acquisition

MYP Years 1-5, phases 1-6

A separate course from Language and Literature, and frequently the correct and cheaper destination for a student in the early years of English. Paying literature rates for what is a phase-appropriate language need is a common and avoidable expense in Dubai.

Personal Project writing

MYP Year 5

The Personal Project report and process journal are extended writing with their own criteria. Support is process coaching and is usually sold as a short block; any arrangement implying the report will be produced for the student is both wasted money and an academic-honesty risk.

Arabic as a first or additional language

Mandatory in Dubai private schools

Required by KHDA alongside the licensed curriculum and separately reported, with its own teaching requirements. It is a separate spend from MYP English, and families should price and plan the two independently rather than looking for one tutor for both.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy MYP Language and Literature support, each with a different cost profile. All are delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and in each case the marking time is stated before you book.

Session plus marked essay, weekly

One 55 to 60-minute session a week and one written task marked between sessions. The quote states the session length and the marking time separately, so you can see what you are buying. This is the pattern that moves criterion A and B marks, and it is also the most expensive per week, because it is the most work.

  • Session length in minutes, not described as an hour
  • Marking time stated explicitly, typically 30-45 minutes per essay
  • One named criterion strand per session
  • No package required; pay per session and pause when school does

Marking only, no live session

The student submits a piece of writing and receives it back annotated against the four criteria with specific rewrites indicated, without a lesson. Materially cheaper per piece than a session plus marking, and genuinely effective for a student who can act on written feedback without discussion.

  • Priced per piece, with a word limit stated up front
  • Turnaround agreed in advance so it lands before the school deadline
  • Annotations name the criterion strand, not just the error
  • Best for students in MYP Years 4-5 who already take feedback well

Oral rehearsal block

Short sessions focused on the spoken components, where criteria C and D are assessed on delivery rather than on a written product. Cheap to deliver because nothing needs marking afterwards, so it should be priced below essay work and usually is not unless you ask.

  • No marking overhead, so the rate should reflect that
  • Recording and review used instead of written annotation
  • Non-verbal technique and register addressed directly
  • Typically three or four sessions before a scheduled oral

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The marked essay is the real unit of cost

Everything about pricing this subject becomes clearer once you stop counting hours and start counting marked pieces. A session is a conversation about writing; a marked essay is the thing that changes the writing. The market quotes hours because hours are easy to invoice, but for MYP Language and Literature the hour is the smaller half of the work and the half that is less connected to the mark.

Consider what marking one 1,000-word analytical response actually involves if it is done properly. Reading it once for sense. Reading it again against criterion A, checking whether the student has analysed the effect of the writer's choices rather than summarised the plot, and whether opinions are justified with examples and terminology. Checking criterion B for organisational structure, sustained coherence and referencing. Checking criterion C for selection of relevant detail and stylistic choices. Checking criterion D for register, variety and accuracy. Then writing annotations that say what to do instead, not merely what is wrong. Thirty to forty-five minutes, and the lower end of that is for a practised marker.

A family who understands this can price support sensibly. One session a week plus one marked essay is roughly 100 minutes of tutor work, and a quote that reflects it will look higher per hour than a quote that does not include marking. That does not make it worse value. The useful comparison is cost per marked piece, which puts two very different-looking quotes on the same scale, and frequently reverses the apparent ranking.

It also opens a cheaper option that almost nobody in the Dubai market offers explicitly. For a student in MYP Year 4 or 5 who can read written feedback and act on it, marking without a live session is materially less expensive per piece and often just as effective. Buying one session a month and three marked essays, rather than four sessions and no marking, is a different and sometimes better product for the same money.

Reading a Dubai quote for MYP English, line by line

Two quotes AED 180 apart can describe the same product or two entirely different ones, and the difference is almost never in the headline figure. Six line items decide it, and asking about all six takes one message. The first is session length: many Dubai providers quote per session and run 45 or 50 minutes, which changes the effective hourly figure by a third without anybody saying anything misleading.

The second is marking, which for this subject is the decisive item. Ask how many minutes the tutor allows per piece and what the annotation looks like. A provider who answers in minutes is telling you they have thought about it. A provider who says marking is included without qualification is usually describing a comment and a grade. The third is reading time: if your child's set text is a novel the tutor has not taught, somebody has to read it, and that either happens unpaid, inside your session, or not at all.

The fourth is turnaround. A marked essay that arrives after the school deadline has no effect on the grade and limited effect on the learning. Agree a turnaround in advance, in days, and check it against the school's submission dates. The fifth is cancellation: what notice is required, and what happens in an assessment week when your child genuinely cannot attend. The sixth is tax: ask only whether the specific figure quoted is the figure you will pay, and do not accept a general statement about how tuition is treated.

One line is usually absent and worth adding. Who is the named tutor, and have they taught MYP Language and Literature specifically, as opposed to English generally. The honest test is to ask them to describe the difference between criterion A and criterion D. Someone who has marked to these criteria will answer immediately. Someone who corrects grammar and discusses themes will not, and that is a AED 200 answer you can get for free before booking anything.

Budgeting a year across the Dubai academic calendar

Spend in this subject should not be flat across the year, because the work is not. A UAE school year running from late August or early September to the start of July has a predictable rhythm: a settling term, a heavy middle with major written tasks, a Ramadan period that reshapes the week, an assessment-dense spring, and a long summer. Planning support to that rhythm rather than committing to the same weekly session for ten months is the single largest saving available, and it is one almost no provider will suggest.

The first term is diagnostic. Two or three sessions and two marked essays will establish which criterion strand is weak, and in a surprising number of cases the answer is criterion B, organisation, which responds quickly to a taught structure. Spending heavily in September, before anyone knows what the problem is, is how families end up funding a general English arrangement for a specific analytical weakness.

The middle of the year is where the money belongs. Major written tasks land, the set texts are properly underway, and marked feedback has time to change the next piece of work. Ramadan then moves the week: school hours shorten, energy patterns change, and sessions are best scheduled post-Iftar. Providers who cannot flex to that effectively lose a month, and a family on a prepaid package loses it with them. Per-session payment makes that month cost nothing.

The spring is assessment-dense, which is when demand and rates firm up across the Dubai market, and when the useful support shifts from new teaching to timed practice and oral rehearsal. Summer is the cheapest effective window of the year and the most neglected: reading volume costs nothing, and three or four marked pieces across July and August put a student into the next year ahead rather than behind. The table sets out the pattern.

04

Why two Dubai quotes for the same lesson differ by AED 200

  • Tier of tutor explains the largest part of the spread
  • In-home format adds 30-150 minutes of recovered travel
  • Marking is the item most likely to separate two similar-looking quotes
  • A premium justified only by an unevidenced label is a premium for the label

Five things explain almost the whole spread, and none of them is quality in the abstract. The first is who the tutor is. Dubai's market runs from university students working online, with published entry rates from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour, through qualified subject teachers at AED 150 to 300, to specialists at AED 200 to 450 and a premium tier quoting AED 500 to 650. A AED 90 quote and a AED 350 quote are usually two different tiers rather than two prices for the same thing.

The second is format. An in-home visit carries travel inside the number, which in Dubai means anything from 30 to 150 minutes of driving depending on the community, recovered across the sitting. That is why the same tutor's in-home and online rates can differ by AED 80 to 200, and why in-home work tends to be sold in two-hour blocks. The third is marking, discussed above, and it is the item most likely to be present in the higher quote and absent from the lower one.

The fourth is risk transfer. A provider offering a replacement tutor, a free trial, flexible cancellation and no prepaid block is carrying commercial risk that a provider demanding a term's fees in advance is not. That shows up in the rate, and it is worth paying for if your child's schedule is unpredictable, which in an MYP year with trips, assessments and travel it generally is.

The fifth is simply market position, and it should be treated sceptically. Examiner claims are frequently advertised and rarely evidenced, and no tutor's examiner experience grants access to marking decisions, grade boundaries or unreleased paper content. A premium justified only by a label, with no board and no year attached, is a premium for the label. Ask what specifically is being claimed, and let the answer decide whether the AED 200 difference is buying anything.

05

Group classes, centres, and why writing resists them

  • Group classes teach the shared parts well: text content and essay structure
  • They cannot deliver individual annotation, which is what moves criterion A
  • Group class plus a fortnightly marked essay is often the best-value combination
  • Ask the school's own teacher first; the conversation is free and they set the task

Per student, a tuition centre group class is the cheapest formal option in Dubai, and for some subjects it is genuinely good value. A class of six working through quadratic equations can be taught together because the errors are shared and visible. A class of six working on analytical writing cannot, because each student's criterion A weakness is different, and the thing that fixes it is annotation of their own paragraph.

What actually happens in a group English class is that the teaching moves to the shared parts: text content, essay structure, general technique. Those are worth something, particularly criterion B organisation, which responds well to a taught template. What does not happen is individual marking at any useful depth, because six essays a week at 35 minutes each is three and a half hours of work that no group rate covers. Families often discover this after a term, having seen no movement in the criterion marks, and then buy one-to-one support as well.

The honest arithmetic is therefore worth doing before rather than after. If a group class costs a third of a one-to-one session and delivers the shared content but not the marking, then group class plus a marked essay once a fortnight may be better value than either option alone. That combination is rarely sold as a package, because it requires a provider to admit that one of its products does not do everything, but a family can assemble it themselves.

There is also a free option that is consistently underused. The student's own English teacher set the task and will mark it, and in most Dubai schools will discuss a draft if asked in time. Before paying anyone, a student should have asked their teacher which criterion strand they lost marks on and what a stronger version of that paragraph would look like. Some families find that conversation closes the gap entirely, which is a result no tutoring budget can beat.

06

What the four criteria are, and what each costs to fix

  • Criterion A, analysing: the most expensive to improve, measured in months
  • Criterion B, organising: the cheapest, often two marks in three or four sessions
  • Criterion C, producing text: mid-cost, and often the fastest-moving
  • Criterion D, using language: widely offered, frequently not the actual problem

Price only makes sense against what is being bought, so here are the four criteria and their realistic cost of repair. Criterion A, analysing, asks the student to analyse content, context, language, structure, technique and style, to analyse the effects of the creator's choices on an audience, to justify opinions with examples and terminology, and to evaluate similarities and differences across texts. It is the most expensive strand to improve because every attempt needs individual annotation, and improvement is measured in months rather than weeks.

Criterion B, organising, asks for organisational structures that serve the context and intention, ideas organised in a sustained and logical manner, and referencing and formatting used to suit the context. This is the cheap one, and families are routinely surprised. A student who is losing criterion B marks is usually missing a structure they have never been shown, and three or four sessions with a taught template plus two marked essays frequently moves the strand a full two marks.

Criterion C, producing text, covers texts that demonstrate thought, imagination and sensitivity, stylistic choices made with awareness of their impact on an audience, and relevant detail selected to develop ideas. Mid-cost: the marking is as individual as criterion A, but progress is often faster because students enjoy the work and produce more of it voluntarily. Criterion D, using language, covers varied vocabulary and sentence structures, register and style serving the context, accuracy in grammar, syntax and punctuation, and accuracy in spelling and pronunciation.

Criterion D is where most Dubai money is misspent. It is the strand almost every available tutor can address, and it is often not the strand costing the marks. A student sitting at 4 or 5 overall with accurate grammar has a criterion A problem, and paying for proofreading will not move it. Before agreeing any arrangement, get the criterion sheet and establish which of the four is lowest. That single step redirects more wasted spend in this subject than any amount of price comparison.

07

Deciding when to stop paying

  • Stop when the strand has held on two unfamiliar pieces written without help
  • Eight weeks with no movement is a fault in the arrangement, not a delay
  • Work that stops coming back turns a session into a lecture with a fee
  • Sometimes the answer is reading volume, which costs nothing at all

Writing support has no natural end point, which is why it is the subject most likely to run for years. A mathematics gap closes visibly. A writing gap narrows gradually, and every marked essay reveals something else that could be better, so there is always a reason for one more term. A family who has not decided in advance what stopping looks like will not stop.

The honest stopping conditions are specific. The target criterion strand has moved and held on two consecutive pieces of unfamiliar work, written without help. The student can state, unprompted, what the strand requires and what their own last piece was missing. Their school criterion marks have moved in the same direction as the tutor's marks, which is the external confirmation that matters. When those three things are true, weekly support should become fortnightly and then stop, with the option of marking-only afterwards.

There are also stopping conditions that have nothing to do with success. Eight weeks with no strand movement means something is wrong with the arrangement, not that more time is needed. Between-session work that stops coming back means the arrangement is now a lecture with a fee. A student who is more anxious than when they started is being harmed by a weekly reminder of a weakness, and the correct response is to stop and reconsider rather than to persevere.

And there is the condition nobody in this market mentions: the problem may not be English. If criterion C marks are weak in humanities and sciences while English criterion marks are solid, the issue is subject-specific writing conventions rather than writing itself. If a student reads fluently and writes thin analysis, more essay practice may matter less than more reading, which costs nothing. We will say so when we see it, because a provider that cannot recommend less of itself is not giving you advice about money.

08

What is not in the price, and should not be

  • No written work, no editing to completion; the student writes every sentence
  • No bundled official past papers or mark schemes; those come from the school
  • No outcome attached to a price, and no statistic without number, date and method
  • No regulator approval claimed, because none is held

A short list of things no legitimate Dubai tutoring rate for this subject includes, because each appears somewhere in this market and each is worth refusing. The first is written work. No part of an essay, a creative text, a Personal Project report or any assessed piece may be produced by a tutor, and an arrangement that implies otherwise is selling a student an academic-honesty risk rather than a service. IB rules require the work to be the student's own.

The second is editing to completion. Line-editing a draft until the sentences are no longer the student's is the same breach wearing better clothes, and it is harder for a parent to spot because the document still contains the student's ideas. The test is the same as always: can your child explain why each sentence is phrased as it is. If the answer is that the tutor fixed it, criterion D in particular has been bypassed rather than taught.

The third is copyright material. IB, Cambridge and Pearson documents, past papers, mark schemes and subject guides should reach a student through their school or the board's own website, and should not be redistributed by a tutor as a bundled extra. A provider advertising a library of official materials as part of the package is offering something they are not entitled to supply.

The fourth is any outcome. No rate buys a grade, a band or an admission, and no honest provider will attach one to a price. Published statistics about results should carry the number of students, the date and the method, and most in this market carry none of the three. The fifth is regulator standing: IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any board, holds no UAE office or centre, and does not charge for a status it does not have.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Community matters to price only in the in-home market, where distance is recovered inside the rate. Because every lesson here is over live video, these notes describe what Dubai families are comparing against rather than anything that applies to our sessions.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Short school runs and plenty of local supply, so in-home English quotes cluster tightly here and families often find little between three providers. The variable worth chasing is not price but whether the tutor marks writing or only discusses it.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills Estate

In-home visits in these communities are generally sold as two-hour sittings because of the drive, which inflates the committed spend per week. For essay work, a 55-minute online session plus marking produces more usable output than two hours in a room.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence

Dense supply of general English tutors and thinner supply of MYP criterion specialists, which shows up as a wide quote range for identical briefs. High household turnover also means many students arrive mid-unit with set texts they have not read.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

A long drive from the main tutor concentrations, so in-home rates come back at the upper end. This is one of the areas where the saving from online delivery is largest in absolute AED terms for the same quality of teaching.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Competitive in-home pricing thanks to proximity to many international schools, but heavy competition for the 17:00 slot. Families who take a later slot or a Saturday morning consistently report better availability of specialist English tutors.

Business Bay and Downtown Dubai

Apartment households where quiet writing time is scarce. Part of what an in-home visit buys here is a room, which is a real benefit, though a later online session once the flat has settled often achieves the same thing for less.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Dubai Sports City

Newer schools and smaller English departments, so local specialist supply is limited and quotes are unpredictable. Online matching removes the scarcity premium that a thin local market creates.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

A good supply of student tutors at entry-level rates near the campuses, which makes the bottom of the market genuinely cheap. It also makes it more important to establish whether a tutor can mark criterion A analysis or only correct surface errors.

Emirates Hills, Meadows and Springs

Experienced in-home English tutors at the top of the published Dubai range. Families here are often already paying specialist rates, so the question is whether the specialism is MYP criterion marking rather than general literature teaching.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai IB schools with heavy extended-writing loads from MYP Year 3

Where two or three substantial written tasks land each term, marking is the dominant cost of any support arrangement. Families at these schools should price per marked essay rather than per hour when comparing providers.

Dubai IB schools with large English-as-an-additional-language intakes

Where a significant share of the cohort works in English as an additional language, the market for writing support is heavy and prices are firm. The distinction between Language and Literature and Language Acquisition matters most here, because paying the wrong rate for the wrong course is common.

Dubai's private school sector in context

Dubai Media Office reported 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with International Baccalaureate programmes accounting for a small share of total enrolment. A thin IB share and heavy demand is exactly the condition that keeps MYP specialist rates firm.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the criterion sheet before asking for a rate

The lowest of the four criterion marks determines what the support actually needs to be, and therefore what it should cost. A criterion B weakness is a few sessions with a taught structure. A criterion A weakness is a term of marked essays. Quoting before seeing it is guessing.

  2. 02

Get the quote in six parts

Session length in minutes, marking minutes per piece, who reads an unfamiliar set text, turnaround in days, cancellation notice, and the named tutor with their MYP experience. Six answers in one message. Any provider who cannot give them in writing is not ready to be compared.

  3. 03

Use the free trial as a marking test

One free trial per student, no card details taken. Send a piece of your child's writing beforehand and see what comes back annotated. That tells you more about what you would be buying than any amount of conversation about teaching philosophy.

  4. 04

Buy the diagnostic before the term

Two or three sessions and two marked essays, then a decision. Committing to ten months in September, before anyone knows which strand is weak, is how a specific analytical problem becomes a general English arrangement that runs for two years.

  5. 05

Pay per session and flex with the calendar

Sessions are paid individually at an agreed rate, so Ramadan, assessment weeks, school trips and travel cost nothing. There is no expiring credit. Spend concentrates where the written tasks are and drops away where they are not, which no prepaid package allows.

  6. 06

Agree in advance what stopping looks like

A named strand, held on two pieces of unfamiliar work written without help, confirmed by the school's own criterion marks. Write it down at the start. The subject has no natural end point, so the end point has to be decided while nobody is anxious about a deadline.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Marking quoted in minutes, not implied

Every quote states how long the tutor allows per marked piece and what the annotation shows. For a subject where the marking is more than half the work, a provider who will not answer that in minutes is not giving you a comparable number.

Marking-only is available and priced lower

A student in MYP Year 4 or 5 who acts on written feedback does not need a live session every week. Buying one session a month and three marked essays is a different product at a different price, and it is one the Dubai market rarely offers explicitly.

No travel inside the rate

Market in-home rates in Dubai carry 30 to 150 minutes of driving, recovered across a two-hour sitting. Every UAE lesson here is one-to-one over live video, so the whole fee buys teaching and marking rather than fuel and a long booking.

Spend planned to the Dubai academic calendar

Diagnostic in the autumn, concentrated through the heavy written term, reduced and rescheduled post-Iftar during Ramadan, shifted to timed practice in the spring. Per-session payment makes that pattern possible; a prepaid term does not.

Market figures with their source and date

Every AED band on this page is attributed to published UAE provider pages or a named Dubai rate survey, compiled in October 2026, and identified as market rather than ours. Three of the UAE providers reviewed for this page publish no price at all.

A stated view on when to stop

Writing support runs indefinitely unless someone defines the end. We agree the stopping condition before the first paid session and raise it when the evidence is met, including when the honest recommendation is reading volume rather than another term of essays.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What do Dubai families pay per hour for MYP Language and Literature support?+

Published market rates put a qualified subject tutor working online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200 to 450, and a premium tier at AED 500 to 650. Entry-level online platforms advertise from around AED 33 to 65, generally with non-specialists. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the number. Those figures were compiled in October 2026 from published UAE provider pages and a Dubai rate survey and are market rates rather than IB Gram's. For this subject the hourly figure is only half the question, because marking is the other half.

Why does essay feedback cost more than a maths hour in the Dubai market?+

Because the work does not end when the session does. Marking a 1,000-word analytical response properly against the four MYP criteria takes 30 to 45 minutes: reading for sense, then checking analysis, organisation, text production and language use, then writing annotations that say what to do instead. A tutor teaching one session and marking one essay has delivered about 100 minutes of work for a one-hour fee. A mathematics session ends at the hour. Either the English rate reflects the marking, or the marking is not happening, or the tutor is absorbing it and will eventually stop.

How many AED does a full MYP Language and Literature essay cycle come to?+

A realistic cycle is one planning session, a drafted response marked and returned, a redraft session, and the final version marked again. That is two sessions and two marked pieces, so roughly two hours of live teaching plus 60 to 90 minutes of marking. At mid-band market rates for a qualified online tutor that lands in the region of a few hundred dirhams per cycle, and a student in MYP Year 4 might go through five or six cycles across a year. Pricing by the cycle rather than by the hour makes two very different-looking quotes comparable, and frequently reverses which one looks better value.

Is MYP Language and Literature cheaper to support than MYP Language Acquisition?+

They are different courses with different cost profiles, and confusing them is a common and expensive mistake in Dubai. Language Acquisition is organised in phases and much of the useful work is oral and vocabulary-based, which carries little marking overhead and therefore prices lower. Language and Literature is assessed on analysing, organising, producing text and using language, with extended writing that must be annotated individually. If your child is in the early phases of English, Language Acquisition support may be both the correct course and the cheaper one. Check which course the school has actually placed them in before agreeing any rate.

What does the Dubai market charge for marking an MYP essay without a lesson?+

Very few Dubai providers sell it separately, which is itself informative. Where it is offered, a marked piece without a session should cost meaningfully less than a session plus marking, because it is 30 to 45 minutes of work rather than 100. For a student in MYP Year 4 or 5 who can read written feedback and act on it, this is the best value in the subject: buy one live session a month to teach the structure, then three marked pieces to apply it. Ask any provider directly whether they will price marking alone, with a word limit and a turnaround in days stated.

How do I budget MYP Language and Literature support across an academic year?+

Unevenly, because the written work is uneven. Spend a small amount in the autumn on diagnosis, two or three sessions and two marked essays, to find which of the four criteria is actually weak. Concentrate roughly a third of the year's spend through the heavy written term from November to January, when feedback has time to change the next piece. Reduce and reschedule post-Iftar during Ramadan. Shift the spring budget from new teaching to timed practice and oral rehearsal. Keep a fifth for summer marking, which is the cheapest effective window of the year and the most neglected.

Does the AED rate differ between MYP Year 2 and MYP Year 5 Language and Literature?+

Yes, and the step is at Year 3 or 4 in most of the Dubai market rather than being gradual. Early MYP support prices like general secondary English, because the written tasks are shorter and the marking overhead is modest. From Year 3 extended analytical writing becomes the main assessed product, and from Year 4 the Personal Project and Diploma preparation start competing for the same hours. Specialist rates follow. The practical consequence is that Years 3 and 4 are the efficient point to intervene: the same weakness addressed in the Diploma costs more per hour and arrives under far more time pressure.

Does a tuition centre group class work for MYP Language and Literature?+

Partly, and it is worth knowing which part. Group teaching handles the shared content well: the set text, essay structure, general technique. Criterion B, organising, responds particularly well to a taught template delivered to a group. What a group cannot deliver is individual annotation, because six essays at 35 minutes each is three and a half hours a week that no group rate covers, and criterion A improvement depends on annotation of the student's own paragraph. A group class plus one marked essay a fortnight is often better value than either option alone, though almost nobody sells that combination.

What should an MYP Language and Literature quote in AED actually list?+

Six things. The session length in minutes, not described as an hour. The marking time allowed per written piece and what the annotation shows. Who reads a set text the tutor has not taught before, and whether that happens inside your paid sessions. The turnaround in days from submission to annotated return, checked against the school's deadlines. The cancellation notice and what happens in assessment weeks. And the named tutor with their MYP experience. A provider who supplies all six in writing can be compared with another who does. One who supplies only a number cannot.

How do the Dubai school fee freeze and tutoring budgets interact?+

KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. With fees flat, tutoring becomes one of the few education lines in a household budget that still moves, which makes it more visible and more scrutinised. The sensible response is not to spend the difference but to scope the spend: a named criterion strand, a planned pattern across the year, and an agreed stopping condition. Writing support is the subject most likely to run indefinitely, and a flat fee bill makes an open-ended tutoring arrangement easier to overlook.

Is paying by the term better value than paying by the session?+

Only if every session in the term is used, and in an MYP year that is unlikely. Trips, assessment weeks, Ramadan rescheduling, illness and family travel all remove sessions, and prepaid blocks rarely survive them intact. Paying per session at an agreed rate means a quiet month costs nothing and a heavy month can carry two sessions a week without renegotiation. If a provider offers a block discount, ask three questions: what happens to unused sessions, whether the rate survives a six-week pause, and whether the discount is larger than the sessions you are statistically likely to lose.

What does an MYP Language and Literature session cost during Ramadan timings?+

It should cost exactly the same, and any provider pricing a premium for post-Iftar scheduling is charging for their own inflexibility. School hours shorten during Ramadan, the rhythm of the day changes, and the workable slots move later in the evening. What usually changes is the shape of the support rather than the rate: shorter sessions, fewer of them, and more weight on marking, which happens asynchronously and is unaffected. Families on prepaid packages often lose part of this month. Paying per session means you simply book fewer sessions and resume afterwards, with the marking continuing throughout.

Does a tutor charge for reading my child's text before the session?+

This is the question nobody asks and it can be worth several hours of someone's time. If your child's set text is a novel the tutor has not taught, somebody has to read it, and there are only three possibilities: the tutor reads it unpaid, it gets read inside your paid sessions, or it does not get read and the teaching is generic. Ask directly whether they have taught the text. A tutor who has will be specific about it immediately. A tutor who has not but will read it should say so, and that is a reasonable arrangement provided the reading is not billed as teaching.

How much should I spend before deciding MYP Language and Literature support is working?+

A diagnostic block and about six weeks of weekly work is enough to know. In that time you should see one named criterion strand targeted repeatedly, four or five marked pieces returned with strand-level annotation, and a visible difference between the first and the last on that strand. If the strand has not moved in eight weeks, something is wrong with the arrangement rather than with the timescale: the target may be wrong, the between-session work may not be coming back, or the weakness may not be in English at all. Decide the review date before the first session, not after the third.

Why do two Dubai agencies quote different AED rates for the same MYP lesson?+

Five reasons, in order of size. The tier of tutor, which runs from university students at AED 33 to 65 through qualified teachers at AED 150 to 300 to specialists at AED 200 to 450. The format, since in-home carries 30 to 150 minutes of recovered travel. Whether marking is inside the rate, which for this subject is more than half the work. Risk transfer, since free trials, replacement tutors and flexible cancellation all cost the provider something. And market position, which should be treated sceptically: an examiner claim with no board or year attached is a premium for a label.

Can we drop to fortnightly MYP Language and Literature sessions to control cost?+

Yes, and for many students it is the right structure rather than a compromise. Writing improves through drafting cycles, and a cycle takes longer than a week: plan, draft, receive annotation, redraft. A fortnightly session with a marked piece in between fits that rhythm better than a weekly session with no time to act on feedback. The combination that works best at roughly half the weekly cost is one session every two weeks plus one marked essay in the gap. What does not work is halving the frequency while keeping the same amount of new teaching, because nothing gets applied.

Ask for the quote in six parts, then test it

Send the criterion sheet from your child's last marked Language and Literature task, and ask for the quote in six parts: session length in minutes, marking minutes per piece, who reads the set text, turnaround in days, cancellation terms, and the named tutor. Then use the free trial, one per student with no card details taken, as a marking test rather than a conversation. Every AED figure on this page is a market band with its source and date attached. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and there are no home visits anywhere in the UAE.
