Best IB Home Tutor in Dubai

Looking for the best IB home tutor in Dubai usually means looking for the right subject specialist, because the difference between a 4 and a 6 sits inside a named component rather than in who is in the room. This page works through what each Diploma subject actually assesses, where Dubai cohorts lose marks, and what a session changes. We teach one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial lesson first.

  • Specialists matched to a subject and a level, named before you book
  • Lessons one-to-one over live video, timed to Dubai evenings
  • Coursework feedback by criterion, never writing or editing
  • Free trial lesson with a written diagnosis, no card details

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The subject is the variable, not the location

Families comparing tutors in Dubai tend to compare the wrong attributes: how near, how experienced in general, how well reviewed. The attribute that moves a Diploma grade is narrower than any of those. It is whether the person teaching understands that a Chemistry Higher Level student losing marks on unfamiliar data needs different work from one losing marks on organic mechanisms, and can tell which of the two your child is from a marked script.

That is a subject-level question and it has a subject-level answer, which is what this page is for. Each of the Diploma's six groups assesses something specific, divides its marks in a particular way between examined papers and internally assessed work, and generates its own recurring failure. A tutor who knows the subject in general and not the assessment in particular will teach competently for eight weeks and move nothing, which is the most common disappointing outcome in this market.

The Higher Level and Standard Level distinction carries more weight than almost anything else on a shortlist. Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra hours attached: the content extends, there are additional examined components, and the written demands rise. A tutor who is strong at Standard Level and has never taught above it is a reasonable hire for one of those students and a poor one for the other, and the only way to know is to ask which level they teach this academic year.

There is also a Dubai-specific dimension. The Dubai Media Office reported 227 private schools serving 387,441 pupils in 2024-25 across 17 curricula, with the IB on 7% of enrolment. A Higher Level cohort in a single subject at a single Dubai school is often a dozen students or fewer, which means the school's own specialist is one person and a student who does not get on with that one person has nowhere else inside the building to go.

On the phrase in the URL, the plain answer. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; visiting tutors are a service we run only in India. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing and a shared annotation surface so a scanned script is marked up by tutor and student together. Nobody arrives at a Dubai address, and the comparison table in the first section sets out what that trades away and what it buys.

What it mostly buys is the subject match this page is about. Matching across the whole pool rather than within a twenty-minute drive is how a Higher Level Chemistry student gets a Higher Level Chemistry teacher instead of the nearest available science graduate, and for the tight combinations that is the whole difference.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The assessment architecture differs so much between IB programmes that the same tutor is rarely right across them. The notes below describe what each one actually measures, which is what a subject brief has to be written against.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, usually three at Higher Level and three at Standard, each assessed through externally examined papers plus an internally assessed component worth roughly a fifth to a quarter of the subject grade. Confirm the exact split in the current subject guide, which your school holds; it is revised between cohorts and differs by subject.

Dubai Diploma cohorts sit the May session. Because Higher Level cohorts in a single subject are often small at a single school, the practical consequence is that a student who needs a second explanation of a Higher Level topic frequently has nobody else in the building to ask. That is the gap private subject teaching actually fills in this emirate.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Assessed against criteria A to D in most subjects, each on a 0-8 band, converted to a 1-7 grade by a boundary table the school holds. The content and the criteria are different things, and most tuition at this stage teaches the content to a student who already has it while the criteria go unread.

Dubai schools running the continuum place the personal project in Year 11, which absorbs a term of evenings in the year before the Diploma. The subject gap that most reliably follows into DP1 is algebraic fluency, because the project year displaces practice. A diagnostic in the first six weeks of DP1 is cheaper than a rescue in DP2.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

No external examinations, no percentages and no papers, so there is no assessment architecture to teach to. Support here is about reading fluency, number sense or an additional language, measured on a repeated task three weeks apart rather than on a test. The risk is a tutor importing a different system's worksheets.

KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in every Dubai private school, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils and combined classes explicitly prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with at least 25 minutes advised for any mandatory-subject lesson — a reasonable benchmark for primary session length too.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses alongside a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. The Diploma courses inside it are examined exactly as in the full Diploma, so the subject tables on this page apply to them directly. The career-related units are provider-assessed and sit outside them.

Few Dubai schools license the programme, so no local tutoring supply has grown around it. The honest approach is to treat the Diploma courses as the tutorable part, apply the same Higher and Standard Level logic to them, and ask the school's coordinator what the reflective project criteria require rather than guessing.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

For each subject, what changes between Higher and Standard Level and where the additional Higher Level demand actually bites. This is the information a shortlist should be built on, because it decides whether a tutor's experience is relevant to your child or to somebody else's.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Higher Level extends into additional organic and energetics content and adds examined material that rewards handling unfamiliar data rather than recall. Standard Level students lose marks on equilibrium explanations; Higher Level students lose them on method evaluation and mechanism precision. Different work, different tutor brief.

Physics

HL and SL

The Higher Level extension is mathematical in content and verbal in assessment: more demanding derivations, and extended-response questions asking for reasons rather than values. Dubai cohorts are typically comfortable with the first and thin on the second, which makes the Higher Level brief partly a writing brief.

Biology

HL and SL

Higher Level adds depth across the core and more data-heavy assessment. The recurring loss at both levels is application rather than recall: a process known in the abstract and not transferred to a named organism in an unfamiliar graph. Higher Level simply raises how unfamiliar the graph is.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Higher Level extends calculus substantially and adds proof, and includes an additional examined paper. A Standard Level specialist can genuinely struggle here. The honest question to a tutor is whether they have taught Higher Level proof to a full cohort, not whether they are good at maths.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Higher Level deepens the statistics and modelling and adds its own additional examined component. At both levels the marks are lost in the written interpretation that must follow a calculation, and in undocumented calculator work, which is a presentation problem rather than a mathematical one.

Economics

HL and SL

Higher Level adds quantitative content and an additional examined paper built on unfamiliar data. At Standard Level the band boundary sits in the evaluation paragraph; at Higher Level it sits there too, plus in the accuracy of calculation. Two separate remedies, often in the same student.

Business Management

HL and SL

Higher Level extends the content and raises the weight of extended analysis. The loss is identical at both levels and unusually consistent: answers written from theory without touching the stimulus material, which forfeits the application and evaluation marks the question was actually testing.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Higher Level adds an additional written component and raises the demand for sustained argument across texts. Both levels examine close analysis of a specific technique in a specific line, and both lose marks to summary. The Higher Level extension is about holding an argument together at length.

English B

HL and SL

Higher Level works with literary texts and raises the register expected in writing and speech. Marks at both levels are lost on text-type conventions rather than vocabulary, which is why general English practice does little and a template per text type does a lot.

History

HL and SL

Higher Level adds depth-study content and an additional essay-based examined component. The band boundary at both levels is named detail: dates, figures, actors. Higher Level demands more of it and demands it sustained across longer essays under tighter time.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Higher Level adds resource management, abstract data structures and an additional examined component. Marks at both levels go on pseudocode precision rather than on conceptual understanding. Supply at Higher Level is thin across the region, so ask about availability a term ahead.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

No Higher or Standard Level split; the same essay and exhibition for every candidate. The loss is structural rather than informational: a topic treated as a knowledge question. The only legitimate help is criterion feedback on the student's own draft, never drafting or redrafting.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three briefs, defined by what the subject needs rather than by how the sessions are packaged. Each is quoted and agreed before it starts, and each produces marked work rather than a feeling of coverage.

Higher Level subject support across a term

One 60-minute session a week on a single Higher Level subject, working through the extension content and the additional examined component rather than revisiting the core. Suits a student whose Standard Level peers are coping and who is finding the Higher Level demand itself to be the problem.

  • One Higher Level subject, one specialist who teaches that level
  • Extension content and the extra component, not the shared core
  • Marking between sessions against the published scheme
  • Week-six comparison on the same component

Standard Level topic repair

A short block of three to five sessions on named topics, for a student who has met the content and is losing marks in two identifiable places. Deliberately finite, because most Standard Level topic problems are a small number of sessions rather than an ongoing commitment.

  • Three to five sessions on named syllabus statements
  • Baseline and closing marked question on each topic
  • Work set as a numbered list between sessions
  • No rollover unless a new topic is identified

Internal assessment supervision by criterion

Sessions aligned to the school's own draft stages, with feedback written by criterion letter and delivered separately from the document. The student's dated drafts stay entirely their own work, which is what makes the arrangement defensible if a coordinator asks what help was used.

  • One session per agreed draft stage
  • Written feedback by criterion, on a separate sheet
  • Dated drafts remain in the student's own file
  • No writing, editing or proofreading to completion

A tutor in the room against one-to-one over live video

Worth getting out of the way first, because it affects everything else on this page. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; visiting tutors are a service we run only in India. If what you need is an adult physically present to make a reluctant 12-year-old sit down, that is a real need and this is not the service that meets it. For a Diploma student working on a named component, the comparison below is the honest one.

The market for visits is substantial and priced accordingly. Bestimate's Dubai figures put in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The difference is broadly a car in evening traffic. What it purchases is presence; what it does not purchase is a wider choice of specialist, because the pool shrinks to whoever will drive to your community at 6pm.

That shrinkage is the point of the comparison for a subject page. A Higher Level Computer Science student in Nad Al Hamar is choosing between a specialist somewhere in the wider pool and whoever is local and willing. The specialist has taught the additional examined component; the local option may be a competent programmer who has never read the syllabus. No amount of presence in the room closes that gap.

There are two smaller differences that matter more than families expect. Marking is the first: a visiting tutor typically reads a script during the lesson, costing ten to fifteen minutes of a paid hour, while an online arrangement can mark between sessions and open with the diagnosis already done. The second is switching cost. Changing a visiting tutor means renegotiating a journey; changing an online specialist is an administrative act, which makes a week-six review genuinely actionable.

The table sets the two side by side on the things that differ. It is not a sales table: the first two rows go against us.

Higher Level against Standard Level: what actually changes

Parents are told Higher Level is harder, which is true and not useful. What changes is specific: the content extends beyond the shared core, there is normally an additional examined component, the written demands rise, and the time pressure in the examination room increases because the questions expect more development per mark. Each of those four produces a different tutoring need.

The content extension is the part a tutor's experience either covers or does not. A teacher who has delivered Standard Level for years knows the shared core thoroughly and may never have taught the extension topics at all. That is not a criticism; it is a scope question, and it is answerable in one sentence by asking which level they have taught to a full cohort rather than in isolated revision sessions.

The written demand is the part families underestimate. In the sciences particularly, the Higher Level papers ask for sustained reasoning rather than longer calculations, and a student who was comfortable at Standard Level can find that the mathematics was never the obstacle. For those students the Higher Level brief is partly a writing brief inside a science subject, delivered by somebody who knows which words the mark scheme rewards.

The decision to move between levels belongs to the school and has a deadline. Schools set their own internal cut-off for level changes, and the IB has registration requirements behind it, so a family considering a move from Higher to Standard Level should ask the Diploma coordinator for the date before doing anything else. A tutor's view is input; the school's calendar is the constraint.

The table compares the two levels across the things that change rather than restating that one is harder. Confirm the exact component weightings for your child's subject in the current subject guide, which the school holds and which is revised between cohorts.

The sciences: where the papers actually put the marks

Chemistry, Physics and Biology share an assessment shape and lose marks in entirely different places, which is why a science generalist is a weaker hire than families assume. All three combine externally examined papers with an internally assessed investigation, and in all three the internal component is worth a substantial single slice of the grade — roughly a fifth to a quarter, depending on subject and cohort. Confirm the figure for your child's subject with the coordinator.

The failure patterns diverge sharply. Chemistry loses marks on sign conventions, equilibrium explanations that describe direction without naming a driver, and mechanism precision. Physics loses them on written explanation while the numerical work holds up, and on units and significant figures in a final line. Biology loses them on application: a process understood in the abstract and not transferred to an unfamiliar graph of a named organism.

The internal investigation is where the three converge, and where the most tutoring value sits. Marks there go on the quality of the research question, the control of variables, the treatment of uncertainty and the evaluation — not on the elegance of the result. A student whose investigation produced a disappointing result can still score well, and most do not know that. A tutor who says so early changes the whole shape of the student's work.

That is also where the academic-honesty boundary is tightest. A tutor may ask whether the data will answer the question, name the criterion a section is failing, and check that feedback was understood. A tutor may not design the method, write the evaluation or edit the document. IB Gram does not write, complete or supply internal assessments, Extended Essays or Theory of Knowledge essays at any price, and the dated-draft record is built so that the student can demonstrate authorship.

The table maps the three sciences onto what each component tests and where the marks go, so a brief can be written against a component rather than a subject.

Both mathematics routes, and the choice that sets two years

Mathematics is the only Diploma group where a family chooses between two different subjects rather than two levels of one, and the choice has consequences well beyond the Diploma. Analysis and Approaches is the calculus-and-proof route; Applications and Interpretation is the statistics-and-modelling route. Both exist at Higher and Standard Level, which produces four distinct courses that are routinely discussed as though they were one.

University prerequisites are the part to get right, and they are not ours to assert. Engineering, physics, mathematics and many economics degrees commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, while a wide range of other courses accept either. The only reliable method is to read the published entry requirements for the specific universities and courses your child is considering, including the UAE institutions, and to do it in DP1 rather than in DP2.

What a tutor can genuinely help with is the fit question. A student who enjoys structure, abstraction and proof will find Analysis and Approaches rewarding and Applications and Interpretation tedious. A student who thinks in contexts and data will find the reverse. Prior attainment matters less than that disposition, and a marked IGCSE paper read properly tells a specialist more about it than a preference expressed in a conversation.

Both routes lose marks in characteristic ways that a session fixes quickly. Analysis and Approaches students show method and drop accuracy: units, significant figures, exact forms. Applications and Interpretation students perform the test correctly and write the conclusion poorly, or use the calculator without documenting the screens that earn the marks. Neither of those is a mathematics problem, and neither takes long once named.

The table compares the two routes on the things that actually differ. Treat the university column as a prompt to go and read the real entry requirements rather than as a statement of them.

The essay subjects: what a band boundary actually looks like

English A, History, Economics, Business Management and Theory of Knowledge are all marked on the quality of an argument, and all five produce the same complaint from parents: the work looks fine and the grade does not move. The reason is nearly always structural rather than informational. The student knows enough; the answer is not doing the thing the band descriptor asks for.

The specific failures are remarkably consistent across Dubai cohorts. In English A, summary written where analysis was wanted. In History, a general process described with no named dates, figures or actors. In Economics, both sides of an evaluation listed with no judgement reached. In Business Management, theory applied without touching the stimulus. In Theory of Knowledge, a topic discussed rather than a knowledge question examined.

Each of those has a short, teachable remedy, and each is invisible to a tutor who only discusses content. The History remedy is a case-study bank built deliberately: named examples the student can deploy unaided under time. The Economics remedy is literally the final paragraph, written over and over until the judgement arrives naturally. The English A remedy is technique vocabulary, then a paragraph shape that earns marks.

The reason these subjects reward private teaching disproportionately is that classroom marking cannot be frequent enough. A teacher with a full timetable cannot mark and discuss one student's paragraph every week; a weekly session can. The marks here move through iteration on the student's own writing, and iteration is a time problem rather than a knowledge problem.

The table pairs each subject with its band boundary and the remedy, with an honest session count attached. None of these is a two-year commitment.

Internal assessment by subject: criteria, limits and the boundary

Every Diploma subject carries internally assessed work, and it is the single largest concentrated slice of the grade a student directly controls. It is also the part where a family is most likely to be offered help that would end a candidacy. Both facts argue for treating it as its own project with its own schedule rather than as homework that happens alongside everything else.

Word and page limits exist for most components, and they are published in the subject guides your school holds. They are revised between cohorts, which is why no tutoring site should present them as fixed facts — including this one. Ask the coordinator for the limits applying to your child's year, and then hold the student to them from the first draft rather than cutting 900 words out of a finished piece in the last fortnight.

The criteria are letters with mark allocations attached, and almost no competing page in this market names a single one. Reading them with the student is the highest-value hour available in coursework support, because it converts a vague instruction to improve into a specific instruction to address criterion C. It costs nothing and most students have never been walked through it line by line.

The boundary, stated once more because it matters: a tutor may ask whether the question is answerable with the available data, name the criterion a section is failing, and check that the feedback was understood. A tutor may not supply the question, write the method, rewrite sentences or proofread to completion. There are providers in this SERP selling completed internal assessments at a fixed price; that is an IB malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on the candidate.

The table lists the components by subject with what each is marked on and the record that protects the student. Treat the limits column as a prompt to verify, not as a published figure.

What cannot be taught remotely, and what can

An honest subject page has to name the limits of the format. Physical laboratory work cannot be done over video. A student standing at a bench measuring a reaction rate is doing something a screen cannot replicate, and the school owns that work, supervises it and assesses it. The same applies to a Visual Arts exhibition hung in a school space, and to any practical performance component.

What remains, however, is most of the marks. In the sciences, the investigation is marked on the research question, the control of variables, the treatment of uncertainty and the evaluation, not on manual technique. All four of those are desk work, and all four are easier to do on a shared screen where two people can annotate the same data table than leaning over one page.

In the arts, the assessed material is substantially documentation and critical commentary — the process portfolio, the comparative study, the artist's statement — and those respond to criterion feedback exactly as any written component does. A tutor cannot and should not touch the artwork; they can read the commentary against the criteria, which is where students most often lose marks.

Language orals are the case where video is arguably better than a room. The assessment is a recorded or live spoken interaction, frequently conducted through a screen in practice, and rehearsing it in the same medium removes a variable rather than adding one. The same is true of any component the school itself administers through a device.

The honest summary is that the format costs you the bench and gains you the specialist. For a student whose practical technique is the weak point, the school is the right source of help and the teacher is the right person to ask. For a student losing marks in the write-up, the design or the evaluation, the bench was never the problem.

What the Dubai market charges for a visit against an online hour

The AED figures below were published by the providers named and read in October 2026. They are market rates rather than IB Gram's prices; our own model starts with a free trial lesson and a consultation, and what a plan costs depends on subject, level and how many sessions it genuinely needs. The reason to publish any of this is that three of the six best-ranking pages for this search publish no price and the two that do quote US dollars.

Read the table by subject brief rather than by band. For a Standard Level topic repair of three to five sessions, the middle band is appropriate and the premium band is a waste. For Higher Level coursework supervision across a term, the bottom band is a false economy, because a university student who has not read the subject guide will give confident feedback against criteria they have not seen.

The level premium is real and should be asked about directly. Several providers price Higher Level above Standard Level, and the justification is legitimate where the tutor has actually taught the extension content and the additional examined component. Where the same person teaches both at the same rate, that is also informative: it may mean honest pricing, or it may mean they treat the two as one course.

Four things to get in writing before any payment, at any band. Whether VAT is included. Whether marking and written feedback happen outside the session. The cancellation window. And whether the rate changes closer to the May session, which is asked surprisingly rarely and answered differently by different providers.

A final caution. A figure quoted with no currency, date or source is a sales number, not a market fact, and a self-asserted star rating is worth less than nothing. Every number in this table carries the name of whoever published it.

Choosing which subject to fund first

Almost no family can fund six subjects, and almost none should try. Six sessions a week leaves a Diploma student no evening in which to do the work that was set, which converts tuition into another timetable rather than a remedy. The realistic number is one or two subjects at a time, and choosing which is a decision worth making deliberately rather than by whichever report card was worst.

Three criteria usually settle it. First, distance from target in a Higher Level subject, because Higher Level marks are harder to recover late and carry more weight in a points total. Second, proximity of a coursework deadline, because an internal component is a fixed slice of the grade with a date attached and cannot be revisited afterwards. Third, whether the subject is a university prerequisite, which makes a grade there worth more than the same grade elsewhere.

What should not drive the choice is which subject the student dislikes most. Dislike is often a symptom of two identified gaps rather than a verdict on the subject, and a week-one diagnostic frequently shows that a student convinced they are hopeless at Chemistry is losing marks in exactly two places. That discovery does more for the following six weeks than a change of subject would.

Sequencing beats simultaneity. One subject supported properly for eight weeks, with marked work at each end, then a decision, then the next subject, uses the same money better than two subjects half-supported for sixteen. It also produces a cleaner answer at week eight, because only one variable changed.

If the honest conclusion is that two Higher Level subjects both need support now, say so and expect an honest answer about availability. Higher Level Chemistry and Physics in the early-evening Gulf Standard Time window are genuinely tight, and we will give a date for the second subject rather than filling the slot with someone who teaches the subject group but not the level.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

What differs by Dubai district is less the subject than the depth of local provision. The notes below record which parts of the emirate have a thin Higher Level supply nearby, which is where matching across a wider pool matters most.

Jebel Ali and Dubai South

A spread-out catchment with large schools on several curricula and a modest IB cohort. Higher Level science groups here are small, and a student needing a second explanation has few options inside their own school.

Al Khawaneej and Mushrif

Established villa communities where most pupils travel to Mirdif or Al Warqa schools. Local tutoring supply is largely generalist, so a Higher Level brief almost always needs to be matched from outside the area.

Al Twar, Al Qusais and Al Nahda

A dense school population dominated by other curricula, with a small Diploma presence. Mathematics requests dominate here, and the Higher Level and Standard Level split is where most mismatches happen.

The Greens and Barsha Heights

Apartment communities beside the city's densest IB school cluster, so local provision is better than anywhere else in Dubai. Even here, the less common Higher Level options have no nearby specialist at all.

Jumeirah Islands and Jumeirah Park

Villa catchments feeding British and IB schools across Al Barsha and Emirates Hills. Families here often compare the Diploma with A Level in Year 11, which makes a tutor who has taught both unusually useful.

Nad Al Hamar and Ras Al Khor

A small residential catchment with almost no nearby tuition provision and long evening journeys in either direction. The practical effect is that any subject brief here has to be solved without reference to distance.

Dubai Production City and Dubai Sports City

Short internal road networks and early school returns make 4.30pm starts realistic, which matters for Higher Level work that needs a student still able to concentrate. Local specialist depth remains limited.

International City and Warsan

Dense, affordable housing with pupils spread across many schools and curricula. The tutoring offers that reach this area are overwhelmingly at the budget end, which is a poor fit for Higher Level coursework.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Jebel Ali, Dubai South and Dubai Investments Park

Large schools serving a wide southern catchment, with Diploma cohorts that are small relative to overall enrolment. Students we support here most often need Higher Level sciences, which is precisely where a single school's specialist supply is one person deep.

  • The Winchester School Jebel Ali
  • GEMS Founders School Dubai South
  • Greenwood International School
  • Nibras International School
  • The Apple International School

Al Khawaneej, Al Mizhar and Mirdif

A mixed cluster where households frequently run two curricula across siblings. The subject requests we see here split cleanly: mathematics at both levels for the Diploma students, and English or science support for the others, which is two different briefs in one house.

  • Ambassador School Dubai
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • Al Salam Private School
  • Al Mizhar American Academy for Girls
  • GEMS Royal Dubai School

Al Qusais, Al Nahda and Al Warqa

One of the emirate's densest school districts, with the IB a minority provision inside it. Students we support in this cluster are often the only Diploma candidate among their immediate friends, which makes a subject-matched specialist more valuable than a locally recommended generalist.

  • The Westminster School Dubai
  • Al Diyafah High School
  • Gulf Indian High School
  • Our Own High School Al Warqa
  • Dubai Scholars Private School

Schools are named only as context for Dubai's schooling market; IB Gram holds no affiliation with, endorsement from or relationship to any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject and the level, separately

"Chemistry" and "Chemistry Higher Level" are different briefs with different specialists behind them. Say which level your child sits, and which examined component or internal piece of work the marks are going on, and the match gets considerably more accurate before anybody has been booked.

  2. 02

Send the marked script and the criterion list

One marked page shows a specialist where the marks went. If coursework is involved, the subject guide's criterion list — which your school holds — turns a general conversation into a specific one about which criterion the draft is not yet meeting. We do not distribute those documents ourselves.

  3. 03

    Hear the honest level match

We will tell you whether the specialist has taught your child's level to a full cohort or only revision blocks, and what the real match time is. For Higher Level sciences and Computer Science in the Gulf evening window that figure is sometimes a week or two, and you get the figure rather than a reassurance.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson on the component

Sixty minutes with the matched specialist, no charge and no card details. Ask them to teach the component the script shows the loss in rather than a comfortable topic. You receive a written diagnosis naming the secure areas, the gaps and the first three sessions, and you keep it either way.

  5. 05

Fund one subject, measure it, then decide

Start with one subject at one session a week, with a baseline script at week one and a comparison on the same component at week six. Then decide whether to continue, change the plan, change the specialist, or move the budget to a second subject. Sequencing gives a cleaner answer than running two at once.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Level treated as a separate question from subject

Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra hours. We match on the level a tutor has actually taught to a full cohort, and we will say when the only honest answer is that nobody suitable is free this week.

Diagnosis from the student's own script

Chemistry loses marks on sign conventions and drivers, Physics on written reasoning, Biology on transfer to unfamiliar data. Those are different remedies with different session counts, and a marked page tells a specialist which one you have before the first lesson.

Coursework help that is criterion feedback only

Feedback by criterion letter, on a separate sheet, with the student's dated drafts untouched. We do not write, complete, edit or proofread internal assessments, Extended Essays or Theory of Knowledge essays at any price, and the record is built so authorship can be demonstrated.

Honest about what the format cannot do

Bench practicals and arts exhibitions happen at school and belong to the school. We say so rather than implying otherwise, and we work on the design, the data treatment and the write-up, which is where most of those components' marks sit.

No claims we cannot evidence

No KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, no school partnership, no star rating, no promise about a final grade. Every AED figure names the provider that published it and the month it was read.

Sequenced rather than stacked

One subject supported properly for eight weeks, with marked work at both ends, uses the same budget better than two subjects half-supported for sixteen. We will say so even when it means a smaller arrangement.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Which Higher Level subject is the hardest to teach remotely?+

Visual Arts, by some distance, because the assessed work is physical and lives in a school space. Even there, the process portfolio and comparative study are written components that respond to criterion feedback like any other. The sciences are easier than families expect: the bench work belongs to the school, while the research question, variable control, uncertainty treatment and evaluation are desk work and are better done on a shared screen where two people can annotate the same data table.

How much of the Chemistry Higher Level grade sits in Paper 3?+

Confirm the exact weighting with your Diploma coordinator or the current subject guide, which your school holds and which is revised between cohorts — no tutoring site should state it as a fixed figure. What is stable is what the component rewards: handling unfamiliar data and evaluating a method rather than reproducing content. That makes it the part of the course where practice on seen material helps least, and where a session built around genuinely unfamiliar questions earns its fee fastest.

What does the Mathematics exploration get marked against?+

A set of criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics, each with its own mark allocation. The exact letters and allocations are in the current subject guide your school holds. Reading them line by line with the student is the single highest-value hour in coursework support, because it converts a vague instruction to improve into a specific instruction to address one criterion. A tutor may give that feedback; a tutor may not write any part of the exploration.

Does English A Language and Literature need a different kind of tutor?+

It needs one who marks writing rather than discusses texts. The band boundary sits in close analysis of a specific technique in a specific line, and the usual shortfall is a well-written summary of what the passage is about. The remedy is technique vocabulary followed by a paragraph shape that earns marks, iterated on the student's own writing. That iteration is a time problem rather than a knowledge problem, which is exactly what a weekly one-to-one hour is good for.

How does a Physics practical write-up work if the lesson is online?+

The experiment happens at school, supervised and assessed there, and nobody should suggest otherwise. What a session works on is everything around it: whether the research question is answerable, whether the variables are genuinely controlled, how uncertainty is treated, and whether the evaluation identifies real limitations rather than generic ones. Those carry most of the available marks and are desk work. A shared annotation surface is better for them than two people leaning over one printed page.

Is Biology Higher Level mostly memory, or is that a myth?+

Largely a myth, and the belief itself causes the mark loss. Dubai cohorts typically arrive with recall intact and lose marks applying a known process to an unfamiliar context — a named organism in a graph nobody has seen. Higher Level raises how unfamiliar that context is. A student revising by re-reading notes is practising the half they can already do. The fix is unfamiliar data-based questions with the command term read aloud before the answer starts.

What separates a Higher Level History essay from a Standard Level one?+

Sustained named detail across greater length under tighter time, plus the additional depth-study content and extra examined component at Higher Level. The band boundary at both levels is the same thing: an argument supported by dates, figures and actors rather than a general process described well. The remedy is a deliberately built case-study bank the student can deploy unaided, which takes five to eight sessions and outperforms more essay practice.

Which Economics Higher Level component carries the calculation marks?+

Higher Level adds quantitative content and an additional examined component built on unfamiliar data, so calculation appears in more than one place — check your child's subject guide for the current structure. The useful point is that calculation losses are accuracy losses rather than method losses, which is a two-to-four session fix. The harder and more valuable work is the evaluation paragraph, where both levels lose the top band by listing two sides and never reaching a judgement.

Does Visual Arts need a tutor at the table rather than on screen?+

For the artwork, yes, and the school is the right place for that. The assessed material also includes substantial written documentation and critical commentary, and those respond to criterion feedback exactly as any written component does. A tutor should never touch the artwork itself. Reading the commentary against the criteria is legitimate and is where students most often lose marks, because the writing is treated as an afterthought to the practical work.

How many taught hours does the IB expect at Higher Level?+

More than at Standard Level, with the figures set out in the IB's own programme documentation and the subject guides your school holds; ask the coordinator for the numbers applying to your child's cohort rather than taking them from a tutoring site. The practical consequence matters more than the figure: because Higher Level carries more taught content, a late start is harder to recover, which is why support that begins in DP1 does more per hour than the same support in DP2.

Can a student drop from Higher Level to Standard Level mid-course in Dubai?+

Sometimes, and the decision belongs to the school rather than to a tutor or a parent. Schools set their own internal cut-off for level changes and there are registration requirements behind it, so the first step is asking the Diploma coordinator for the date. A tutor's input is useful on one narrow question: whether the difficulty is the extension content itself or two identifiable gaps in the shared core, because those point to different decisions.

Why is a home tutor search answered with an online lesson in Dubai?+

Because IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; visiting tutors are a service we run only in India. The phrase in the URL is what parents search, so it is answered honestly rather than avoided. What the format trades away is physical presence, which genuinely matters for a young or reluctant student. What it buys is a specialist matched on subject and level across the whole pool, and roughly sixty minutes of teaching in a 60-minute hour rather than thirty-five to forty.

What does a Language B Higher Level session work on each week?+

Text-type conventions for the writing paper, register and accuracy in speech, and the literary texts that Higher Level adds. The marks at both levels are lost on conventions rather than on vocabulary, which is why general conversation practice does less than a template per text type, practised against the criteria. The oral components are one of the few places where a pair genuinely helps, because another voice creates the unpredictability the assessment depends on.

Which subjects most often need help in the first term of DP1?+

Mathematics, overwhelmingly, in both routes and at both levels, because the step up from IGCSE algebra arrives immediately and nothing else in the timetable waits for it. After that, Chemistry, because equilibrium and energetics appear early and punish shallow understanding. Students arriving from the Middle Years Programme often have a specific algebraic fluency gap created by the Year 11 personal project, which is cheap to close in DP1 and expensive to ignore until DP2.

Does Computer Science Higher Level suit online teaching?+

Unusually well, since the work is already on a screen. Pseudocode can be written on a shared surface with both people editing, and the marks go on initialisation and loop boundaries rather than on conceptual understanding, which is easier to catch when the code is visible to both. The practical issue is supply rather than format: Higher Level Computer Science is among the thinnest specialisms across the region, so ask about availability a term before the component becomes urgent.

What if both of our child's weakest subjects are at Higher Level?+

Sequence them rather than running both. One subject supported properly for eight weeks, with a baseline script and a comparison on the same component, produces a clean answer because only one variable changed. Two half-supported subjects over sixteen weeks produce an argument. If both genuinely cannot wait, expect an honest availability answer: Higher Level Chemistry and Physics in the early-evening Gulf window are tight, and we will give a date rather than a substitute.

Start from the component, not the postcode

If you are searching for the best IB home tutor in Dubai, the useful first move is to write down the subject, the level and the component the last marked script shows the loss in. Send that script, book the free trial lesson with no card details taken, and ask the specialist to teach the difficult component rather than a comfortable topic. You keep the written diagnosis either way. Then fund one subject properly for eight weeks, compare two marked scripts on the same component, and decide from there.
