1-to-1 IB Tutor in Dubai

A 1-to-1 IB tutor in Dubai costs more per hour than any group seat and usually less per useful minute, and this page does the arithmetic rather than asserting it. What a ratio of one actually buys, how many minutes of direct attention sit inside a shared hour, what published dirham rates work out to per student at each ratio, and what a 45, 60 or 90 minute session can realistically finish. Lessons run live over video to every Dubai community, and the first one is free for one student per family with no card details taken.

What a ratio of one is actually worth

Every tutoring provider in Dubai describes its sessions as personalised and most of them mean something different by it. A class of eight is personalised in the sense that the teacher knows the students' names. A pair session is personalised in the sense that the pace is closer to each student. A ratio of one is personalised in the only sense that changes what can be diagnosed: the entire hour is spent on one student's own work, in their own order, at the pace their understanding sets. The difference is measurable in minutes and it is worth measuring before paying for it.

The arithmetic is unglamorous and it decides most of the value. A sixty-minute session with eight students contains, at best, around seven minutes of direct attention per student once explanation to the room is counted as shared rather than individual. With four students it is closer to fifteen. With two it is roughly twenty-five, because some explanation genuinely serves both. With one it is sixty, every minute of which can be spent on the specific question this student got wrong for a reason nobody has yet identified.

That is why the per-hour comparison misleads. A group seat in Al Quoz at a fraction of an individual rate looks dramatically cheaper and sometimes genuinely is. Measured per minute of direct attention, the gap narrows sharply and in some cases reverses. The honest version of the comparison needs both numbers: the cost of the hour, and the share of the hour the student receives. This page publishes both, using market rates with their sources named.

There is a second thing a ratio of one buys that no amount of group teaching provides, and it is not attention at all. It is sequence. A student who has misunderstood something in September will carry that misunderstanding through everything built on it, and only an individual session can stop, go back three topics and rebuild. A class cannot do that for one student without failing the other seven, and a good teacher in a group knows it. That single capability is the reason individual sessions exist, and it is the one thing a cheaper format cannot substitute for at any frequency. A student carrying a broken foundation through a Diploma year is not short of teaching hours; they are short of one hour spent in the right place.

Where IB Gram sits is specific. Every match is one student with one tutor, delivered over live video with the student writing on a shared whiteboard the tutor annotates. There are no premises in Dubai and no home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service offered only in India. Dirham figures on this page are market rates with the publisher named, never an IB Gram quote, and the one commitment made is a free first lesson, one per student and one student per family, with no card details collected.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Ratio matters differently in each IB programme. A primary child needs frequent short contact. A Middle Years student needs criterion wording unpicked on their own writing. A Diploma student needs papers marked and a sequence repaired. These are the three programmes Dubai schools run, described by what the ratio of one specifically adds in each.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Grade 5

Primary Years Programme

At primary level the value of a ratio of one is attention span rather than content. A seven-year-old reading aloud to one adult who stops at every error gets something a reading group structurally cannot provide. Sessions should be short, which also makes the individual rate affordable: thirty minutes of genuine one-to-one twice a week usually outperforms an hour-long group session once a week, at a comparable monthly figure.

Dubai primary cohorts turn over constantly, and the commonest individual request here is a short diagnostic to tell a real difficulty apart from a curriculum sequencing difference. That question cannot be answered in a group at all. KHDA's mandatory Arabic streams also begin in these years, taught separately for Arab and non-Arab students, and any individual support has to follow the school's own stream and material.

MYPAges 11-16 · Grades 6-10

Middle Years Programme

Middle Years subjects are marked against four criteria out of 8 each, converted to a 1-7 grade by the school. The criterion a student is losing is specific to that student's writing, which is exactly the thing a group cannot address: criterion C in one student's history essay and criterion D in another's are different problems. Individual sessions here are usually short runs around a reporting point rather than continuous.

Dubai continuum schools often run Middle Years to Grade 10 before offering a Diploma or British route, so a Grade 9 individual session frequently has two jobs: repair the criterion that is costing marks, and produce evidence about whether Higher Level will be viable. Both need one student's own work in front of the tutor, which is why a pair arrangement rarely suits this stage even between friends.

DPAges 16-19 · Grades 11-12

Diploma Programme

The Diploma is where a ratio of one earns the premium most clearly. Six subjects on a 45-point total, internally assessed work in each, plus Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, and every one of those components fails for student-specific reasons. Marking a student's paper, sorting their lost marks and rebuilding the topic underneath cannot be done to a room, and the second year leaves no time to discover that the hours were spent at the wrong ratio.

Diploma teaching in Dubai concentrates in fewer schools than the surrounding British sector, which means a student taking a minority Higher Level subject may be one of very few in their community doing so. There is often literally no group to join. For those students the choice is not between ratios but between an individual online specialist and no specialist at all.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are subjects where Dubai families most often conclude that a ratio of one is necessary rather than preferable, with the specific thing an individual session does that a group cannot. The test in each case is whether the fix depends on this student's own written work.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency fails in individual ways: one student drops signs, another cannot factorise under time pressure, a third sets up calculus correctly and loses marks on presentation order. A group drills the average of those three. An individual session finds which one is yours in twenty minutes of watching the student work and then drills only that.

Physics

HL and SL

Long-answer questions need a sequence: define, state the relationship, substitute, evaluate. Watching a student write one in real time shows where the sequence breaks, which a marked script alone only hints at. The internal investigation needs a research question narrowed against that student's available equipment, which is inherently an individual conversation.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Mechanisms expose whether a student understands electron behaviour or has memorised arrows. The diagnosis takes one unfamiliar mechanism and a tutor watching the pen move. If the understanding is missing, bonding and periodicity have to be rebuilt, which means going back three topics for one student while the rest of a class moves on.

English B

HL and SL

Productive skills carry the grade and they are impossible to build in a group at any useful rate, because each student needs their own errors corrected as they speak. Fifteen minutes of corrected speaking per week moves a grade. In a group of eight, fifteen minutes of speaking practice is less than two minutes each.

Arabic B

HL and SL

Dubai students arrive at Arabic B with wildly different starting points, from household fluency with written weakness to no prior exposure. Grouping them produces a session that fits nobody. Individual work can match script practice, vocabulary range and speaking correction to the actual starting point, which is the only way the course is manageable for a late starter.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and the missing evaluation sentence are both habits, and habits are corrected by interruption at the moment they occur. The internally assessed commentaries depend on the student's own chosen articles, which cannot be supervised collectively because every student has different articles and different diagram requirements.

Psychology

HL and SL

Students describe studies accurately and never link them to the question, which is a writing habit specific to how that student plans an answer. Individual sessions can rebuild the planning step directly on their own paragraphs. The experimental study needs a simple replicable design, and talking a student out of an over-ambitious one is a one-to-one conversation.

Design Technology

HL and SL

The design cycle produces work nobody else in the room is doing, so there is no shared content to teach. Individual supervision is the only realistic format: a project at a particular stage, with particular constraints, needing particular criteria explained. This is one of the subjects where Dubai families most often find no local group exists at all.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

A subject chosen as a manageable option and then marked on precise physiology and data handling. The gap is almost always between confident practical knowledge and imprecise written answers, and closing it means marking that student's own extended responses. Group revision of content rarely touches the actual problem.

Music

HL and SL

Assessment combines analysis, creating and performing, and no two students present the same portfolio. Support has to be built around the pieces and the written commentary that student has actually produced, which makes a ratio of one the default rather than an upgrade. Dubai cohorts in this subject are small, so an online individual match is usually the only option.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three individual arrangements, all one student with one tutor over live video. The difference is the length and rhythm rather than the ratio, and the right one depends on what the student can absorb in a sitting as much as on what the family can fund.

Short weekly session, 45 minutes

The format most Middle Years students and many Standard Level students work best in. Forty-five minutes of genuine individual attention is more than most students receive in a fortnight of group teaching, and it finishes before concentration goes. It also keeps the weekly figure lower, which matters for families running two children or two subjects at once.

  • One topic or one error class per session, finished rather than started
  • Work set between sessions, marked before the next one
  • Protected weekday slot in Gulf Standard Time
  • Easier to sustain across a full term than longer blocks

Standard hour, 60 minutes

The default for Diploma subjects, because an hour is roughly what marking a section of a paper and teaching from the marking requires. It allows a diagnostic read at the start, focused teaching in the middle and a set task at the end without rushing any of the three. Most published dirham bands in this market are quoted against this length.

  • Marked section, targeted teaching, task set, in one sitting
  • Enough time to go back a topic when the sequence has broken
  • The length most market rates are quoted against
  • Written note after every session, sent to the parent

Extended session, 90 minutes

Reserved for whole-paper work under timed conditions and for internally assessed drafting reviews, where stopping in the middle wastes the setup. Ninety minutes is too long for routine teaching and most students lose value in the final stretch, which is why it is used for a specific job rather than sold as a better version of the hour.

  • A full paper sat to time, then marked in the same sitting
  • Internal assessment reviews where the draft needs reading first
  • Used selectively; not a default upgrade
  • Priced per session rather than implied as better value per minute

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

Minutes of attention per ratio, and what each ratio can diagnose

The useful comparison between tutoring formats is not the hourly rate. It is the cost of a minute of attention directed at your child, combined with what each ratio is structurally capable of doing. A group can teach content well. Only a ratio of one can find out why a specific student is losing marks, because that requires reading their work and changing the explanation until it lands.

The attention figures in the table are estimates from how sessions actually run rather than a published study, and they are deliberately generous to the groups. Explanation delivered to the whole room genuinely serves everybody, so it is not counted as lost. What is counted is the time available for one student's own questions, their own written work and the correction of their own errors, which is where diagnosis happens.

The dirham column converts published Dubai market bands into cost per student per hour at each ratio. Those bands come from providers' own pages read in October 2026 and are market figures rather than an IB Gram quote. The pattern they show is consistent: group seats are far cheaper per hour and the gap per minute of attention is much smaller than it looks, while the capability difference is absolute rather than gradual.

The last column is the one to decide on. If the job is revising content a student already broadly knows, buy the cheapest ratio they can keep up with. If nobody yet knows why the marks are being lost, or if the work is internally assessed and specific to that student, a ratio of one is not an upgrade but a requirement.

02

The attention arithmetic, worked through on a real week

  • Count minutes of attention, not minutes of session
  • Ask what the session can diagnose, not only what it can teach
  • Going back three topics is a capability, and it needs a ratio of one
  • Sequence the formats: diagnose individually, consolidate cheaply

Take a Grade 11 student in Dubai with a 5 in Higher Level Chemistry and no clear idea why. Option one is a group class of eight for ninety minutes a week at the lowest published band. Option two is a single individual hour at the mid specialist band. On paper the group is a fraction of the cost and half again as long, and most families choose it.

Now count what the student receives. In the group, roughly eleven minutes of attention directed at them across the ninety, almost none of it spent reading their own written answers, and a pace set by whichever topic the majority needs. In the individual hour, sixty minutes on their own work, including fifteen spent on an unfamiliar mechanism that reveals they have memorised arrows rather than understood electron behaviour. One of those two sessions has found the problem.

Over a term the divergence compounds. The group student knows more content and is still losing the same marks, because the lost marks were never about content. The individual student has had bonding rebuilt, which is three sessions of apparently backwards work that nothing in a group could have delivered. The grade moves for the second student and does not for the first, and the first family concludes that tutoring does not work.

This is not an argument that groups are bad value. It is an argument that the two products answer different questions, and that buying the cheaper one for the harder question is the expensive mistake. The efficient sequence for most Dubai families is individual diagnosis first, then group or independent consolidation once the target is known and being hit.

03

Why individual rates in Dubai sit where they do

An individual hour is priced from costs a group hour spreads across several families, and knowing which they are makes a quote legible. Preparation for a specific student, marking that student's work outside the session, writing the record, and the simple fact that the tutor cannot sell that hour to anyone else are the four that matter. In-home arrangements add a fifth, which is the slot lost to travel.

Preparation and marking are the ones families underestimate. A specialist marking a Higher Level paper section against the published criteria and writing a useful note is doing perhaps thirty minutes of unpaid work around a sixty-minute session. That work is the reason the specialist band exists, and it is also exactly what a cheaper arrangement quietly omits. Asking whether marking is inside the hour is the single most informative price question available.

The travel component is the one Dubai distorts most. Published in-home one-to-one rates in this emirate run from around AED 180 to 500 across sources, with Bestimate's 2026 table at 180 to 350 and some home tutors quoted up to 500. A late-afternoon crossing can consume the time of most of another session in each direction, and that sits inside the figure whether a provider itemises it or not.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visiting is a service offered only in India. Every UAE match runs over live video, which removes the travel component from the cost structure entirely and, more importantly, removes the geographic limit on which tutor a family can choose. The table separates the components so a quote from anyone can be read against them.

04

What 45, 60 and 90 minutes can each actually finish

Session length is treated as a budget decision and it is really a cognitive one. A student can absorb a limited amount of new correction before returns fall away, and that limit is lower than most families expect, particularly in the second Diploma year when school has already consumed the day. Buying ninety minutes for a tired Grade 12 student frequently purchases twenty-five minutes of value and fifteen of resentment.

Forty-five minutes is enough to finish one thing. One error class, one topic repaired, one section of a paper marked and taught from. The discipline of finishing rather than starting is what makes short sessions effective, and it is why they often beat longer ones for Middle Years students and for anybody working after seven in the evening.

Sixty minutes is the natural length for Diploma subject work because the cycle has three parts: read what the student produced, teach into the gap, set and explain the next task. An hour accommodates all three without rushing. It is also the length most published dirham bands in this market are quoted against, which makes it the easiest to compare across providers.

Ninety minutes has one strong use and several weak ones. Sitting a whole paper to time and marking it in the same sitting cannot be split, and neither can a serious read-and-review of an internally assessed draft. Outside those jobs, the extra thirty minutes is usually better spent as a separate session later in the week. The table sets each length against what it can finish and roughly what it costs at mid-band market rates.

05

Testing an individual match in the first hour

Everybody is impressive in a trial lesson, which is why judging a one-to-one tutor on manner is close to useless. The free first session should be used as a test with a known answer: send a piece of marked work in advance and watch what the tutor does with it. A specialist reads the lost marks, sorts them into categories, names the most expensive one and teaches into it within the hour.

Three failure signals show up reliably in a first session. The first is a tutor who begins with their own placement test rather than the work you sent, which usually means they intend to teach a programme rather than respond to a student. The second is a tutor who explains a topic confidently and never watches the student write, because errors appear in the writing and nowhere else. The third is a session that produces no written record, which makes the next four weeks unauditable.

The positive signals are equally concrete. The tutor asks which school, because internal assessment calendars differ across Dubai and the answer changes the plan. They ask what the student thinks went wrong, and listen to the answer. They go backwards when the student's explanation reveals a missing foundation, rather than pressing on with the planned topic. And the note afterwards names a category of error rather than describing the lesson.

If the match is wrong, a free hour is a good way to find that out. Changing the proposed tutor after a trial is normal and costs nothing, and a provider that treats a rejected match as a problem rather than as information is managing its roster rather than your child's grade.

06

Siblings and pairs: where sharing an individual session works

  • Works: same level, same subject, consolidating shared content
  • Works: timed practice sat together, individual points made separately
  • Fails: diagnosis, internally assessed drafts, mixed levels
  • Across programmes, two shorter staggered sessions beat one shared hour

Dubai households frequently have two children in the same programme and ask whether one session can cover both. Sometimes it can, and the honest answer depends on three things: whether they are at the same level, whether the thing being worked on is shared content rather than individual error correction, and whether they can tolerate each other's pace without one of them disengaging.

Pairing works best for a specific case: two students at the same level, in the same subject, consolidating content both have been taught and neither has mastered. There, the second student genuinely benefits from hearing the first one's questions, and the per-student cost drops materially. Pairing also works for timed practice, where both sit the same paper and the marking is discussed together with individual points made privately afterwards.

Pairing fails for diagnosis, for internally assessed work and across levels. Two students losing marks for different reasons cannot both be diagnosed in one hour; the tutor will find one problem and guess at the other. Internally assessed components are specific to each student's own draft and must be discussed individually. And a Standard Level student paired with a Higher Level sibling is usually paying to watch someone else's lesson.

Where a family does want a pair arrangement, we agree which student the session is primarily for and say so, rather than pretending the hour serves both equally. Siblings in different programmes are almost always better served by two shorter individual sessions, staggered, which is also easier in an apartment with one quiet room.

07

Fitting one tutor into a Dubai evening

An individual slot has to survive a school year, and in Dubai the thing that kills it is almost never the teaching. It is the calendar. School buses that arrive late, a sibling's activity, a parent's commute back across the city, Ramadan timings, and the simple fact that a tired child at eight in the evening learns very little. Agreeing the slot properly at the start is worth more than a better tutor on the wrong slot.

Earlier is better for younger students and often impossible for working households. The compromise most Dubai families land on is a protected weekday slot that is slightly inconvenient for everybody and therefore actually holds, plus an agreed fallback on a weekend morning for weeks when the weekday fails. Writing the fallback down at the start removes the weekly renegotiation that quietly ends arrangements by week six.

Ramadan deserves explicit planning rather than improvisation. School days shorten, late-afternoon energy drops noticeably, and the usable window for many families moves to after Iftar. A session fixed at five o'clock in September will be missed through Ramadan, so agreeing the alternative timing when the slot is first set preserves continuity across the month instead of losing four sessions.

The table below sets out the slots that actually work in this city, who each suits and what to agree in advance. It is written from the pattern of UAE scheduling rather than a preference, and the final column is the part that prevents an arrangement from drifting.

08

Continuity, and what happens when an individual match fails

A ratio of one depends on continuity in a way a group does not. The value accumulates in what the tutor knows about this particular student: which error class they repeat, which explanation finally worked, which topic was rebuilt in October. A rotating roster destroys that, which is why the same tutor stays with a student here unless a change is requested, and why we would rather decline work than cover a slot with whoever is free.

Matches still fail, and they fail for reasons that are nobody's fault. A tutor whose explanation style does not reach a particular student, a personality mismatch, a scheduling change neither side can accommodate. The honest handling is to change the match quickly rather than to persist, and to carry the record across so the new tutor begins from the diagnosis rather than repeating it.

The practical mechanism is the record. Marked scripts, the error-class tally and the session notes belong to the family, so a replacement tutor can read a term of work before the first session. That is the difference between changing tutors costing one session and costing a month. It is also the reason to insist on a written record from week one even when the match is going well.

Availability limits apply and are stated rather than concealed. Coverage is deep in Diploma mathematics, the sciences, economics, business and English, and thinner in several group two languages, some arts subjects and minority options. Where no suitable specialist is free, we give a realistic wait instead of offering someone who teaches an adjacent subject, because at a ratio of one the substitution is obvious within a fortnight.

09

Individual sessions on internally assessed work

Internally assessed components are the clearest case for a ratio of one and the clearest place where the boundary has to be stated. Every student's exploration, investigation, commentary, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay is their own, which makes group supervision close to meaningless and individual supervision genuinely valuable. It also makes the temptation to over-help immediate.

What an individual session may do is specific. Explain what a criterion asks for in the criterion's own language. Read a draft the student has written and say which criterion is not yet met and why. Ask the questions the criteria ask until the student finds the gap. Teach the content, the statistics or the method the work requires. Hold the student to the school's schedule, which is usually the single most useful thing in the whole arrangement.

What it may not do is equally specific. No sentences supplied for insertion. No restructuring performed on the student's behalf. No research question handed over for the student to adopt. No editing that lifts a draft from one band to another without the student doing the thinking. Operations in this market sell completed work; a student submitting it faces an academic honesty investigation reaching well beyond one subject grade.

Because the boundary matters, feedback is logged with a date so a school supervisor can see the shape of the support if they ask. Schools also set their own rules on how many formal drafts may be commented on, and those rules take precedence over anything a tutor would otherwise prefer. Ask the school first; the answer is in their academic honesty policy.

10

When a ratio of one is the wrong purchase

Individual sessions are the most capable format and the most expensive, which makes them the wrong purchase in several common situations. A student who simply has not covered the content because they missed a term needs volume, and volume is cheaper in a group or through structured independent work with marking attached. Paying specialist individual rates to deliver a syllabus is paying a diagnostician to read a textbook aloud.

A second case is breadth. A family needing some support across four subjects on a fixed budget will get more from a mixture than from one individual subject done beautifully while three others drift. The honest advice there is to pick the subject where the most marks are at stake for individual work and handle the others more cheaply, rather than to spread an individual budget thinly across all four.

A third case is where the problem is not academic at all. A Grade 12 student sleeping five hours and carrying three overdue components does not have a subject problem, and nor does a Grade 7 student who cannot yet read fluently. Both present as grades. Neither responds to a weekly subject session, and the first conversation on every match asks what else is happening precisely so this gets identified before money is spent.

What happens next, if a ratio of one is the right purchase, is short. Send the subject, the level, the school and a recent piece of marked work. We come back with a named tutor, a proposed session length and a slot in Gulf Standard Time, usually within two working days. The first lesson is free for one student per family with no card details taken, and it is spent on the work you sent rather than on introductions.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities and what the ratio of one changes locally

An individual online session reaches every Dubai community identically, so geography does not change the tutor. It changes whether a group alternative exists at all, and it changes which evening slots a household can realistically protect for one child at a time. These are the communities where individual enquiries cluster.

Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina

Apartment households where the practical constraint is one quiet room shared between siblings. Individual sessions get staggered rather than stacked here, and 45 minutes with headphones works better than a 90-minute block that competes with a younger child's bedtime.

The Springs, The Meadows and The Lakes

Established villa communities with large Diploma cohorts, which means group options genuinely exist for mainstream subjects. Families here are usually choosing between a local group and an individual session, and the honest answer depends entirely on whether the problem has been diagnosed yet.

Tilal Al Ghaf and Dubai Hills Estate

Newer family communities with younger cohorts and long bus routes. Children arrive home late and tired, so shorter individual sessions on a protected weekday slot hold far better than longer ones, and weekend mornings are frequently the most reliable option.

Dubai Creek Harbour and Al Jaddaf

Growing communities near Creek-side continuum schools, with a high proportion of mid-year arrivals part way through a programme. The first individual session here is usually diagnostic rather than remedial: establishing what has actually been covered before any teaching sequence is planned.

Al Khawaneej and Mizhar

Lower density and longer drives, which historically limited families to whichever visiting tutor could reach them. For a minority Higher Level subject that radius often contained nobody suitable, and an individual online match is the whole difference rather than a saving.

Remraam, Mudon and Serena

Communities where several families often share a school bus route and sometimes ask about pairing two students. That works for consolidation of the same content at the same level and fails for diagnosis, so we agree which of the two the session is for before arranging anything.

Garhoud, Deira and Oud Metha

Older established areas with a dense mix of curricula and strong demand for individual Arabic and mathematics support. Parents commuting locally can usually protect an earlier slot here than in the southern communities, which suits Middle Years students who fade after seven.

Jumeirah Golf Estates and Dubai Sports City

Spread-out communities where the nearest Diploma provision is a drive and the local tutoring supply skews towards generalists. Individual matching by subject rather than by proximity is the practical argument for online delivery in this part of the emirate.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Large Diploma cohorts where groups do exist

In these schools a mainstream Higher Level subject has enough students that a group or a school revision class is a genuine alternative. Families here benefit from sequencing: an individual diagnostic block first, then cheaper group consolidation once the error class is identified and being worked on.

Schools with small cohorts in minority subjects

Where only a few students in a year take a given Higher Level option, there is no group to join at any price and individual support is the only format available. This is also where internal assessment supervision load falls heaviest on a small teaching team, and a second reader is most often wanted.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Work out whether you need diagnosis or volume

If nobody knows why marks are being lost, buy a ratio of one. If the content is simply missing and the reason is known, volume is cheaper elsewhere. This single question decides more about value for money than any comparison of hourly rates between providers in this city.

  2. 02

Choose the session length for the student, not the budget

Forty-five minutes finished beats ninety minutes endured, particularly after seven in the evening in the second Diploma year. Tell us what time the student will actually be sitting down and how they are by then, and we will propose a length rather than default to an hour.

  3. 03

Send marked work before the free session

The trial is a test with a known answer. A specialist reads your child's lost marks, sorts them by category, names the most expensive one and teaches into it inside the hour. Watch for whether they open your work or their own placement test; the difference tells you what you are buying.

  4. 04

Protect one slot and agree the fallback

Pick a weekday slot that is slightly inconvenient and therefore holds, agree a weekend morning fallback for the weeks it fails, and settle Ramadan timing in writing at the start. Arrangements in Dubai end from calendar drift far more often than from bad teaching.

  5. 05

Review at four sessions and keep the record

You get a written continue, change or stop recommendation with the evidence behind it. The marked scripts, error-class tally and session notes belong to you, so changing tutor costs one session rather than a month. Stopping is a legitimate outcome and we will recommend it when it is the right one.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The ratio is measured, not claimed

Minutes of direct attention set out at ratios of one, two, four and eight, with published dirham rates converted to cost per student at each. Every provider in this city calls its sessions personalised; this page states what the word is worth in minutes and lets a family compare.

One tutor, named, kept

The same specialist stays with a student unless a change is asked for, because at a ratio of one the value sits in what the tutor knows about that student. A rotating roster cannot tell you whether February's mistakes are September's mistakes, which is the only question that matters.

Session length chosen for the student

Thirty, forty-five, sixty or ninety minutes, matched to what the student can absorb in a sitting rather than to a standard package. Ninety minutes is used for whole timed papers and draft reviews, not sold as a better version of an hour.

Sharing recommended where it genuinely works

Pairs work for same-level consolidation and timed practice and fail for diagnosis, internally assessed drafts and mixed levels. We will say which applies to your two children rather than take the booking and pretend one hour serves both equally.

Costs broken into their components

Teaching time, preparation, marking, record-keeping, the irreducible opportunity cost of an undivided hour, and travel where it applies. A quote read against those six components is legible; a quote compared only against another quote is not.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much attention does my child actually get in a group IB class in Dubai?+

Roughly seven minutes of directly individual attention in a sixty-minute session with eight students, once explanation delivered to the whole room is counted as genuinely shared rather than lost. With four students it is closer to fifteen minutes, with two around twenty-five, and at a ratio of one it is the full hour. Those are working estimates from how sessions run rather than a published study, and they are deliberately generous to the groups. The number matters less than what each ratio can do: only a ratio of one can diagnose.

Is one individual hour better than three hours in a group?+

For diagnosis, yes, clearly. For covering content a student has simply missed, no, and the group is far better value. The distinction is whether anyone yet knows why marks are being lost. If they do not, three group hours will teach more content and leave the same marks being dropped, because the lost marks were never a content problem. If the gap is identified and the work is practice, buy the cheaper ratio. The efficient sequence is individual diagnosis first, then cheaper consolidation.

Why does marking cost extra with some Dubai tutors and not others?+

Because marking a student's work against the published criteria and writing a useful note is roughly thirty minutes of work around a sixty-minute session, and somebody has to be paid for it. Specialist bands in this market include it; cheaper arrangements usually omit it without saying so. Asking whether marking of your child's own written work sits inside the hour or is billed separately is the single most informative price question available, and a vague answer usually means the marking is not happening at all.

Can my two children share one IB session to halve the cost?+

Sometimes, and it depends on three things: whether they are at the same level, whether the work is shared content rather than individual error correction, and whether they tolerate each other's pace. Pairing works well for consolidating content both have been taught, and for sitting the same paper to time. It fails for diagnosis, for internally assessed drafts and across levels, where one child usually ends up watching the other's lesson. For different programmes, two shorter staggered sessions work far better than one shared hour.

What session length should a Grade 12 student in Dubai book?+

Sixty minutes for routine subject work, and ninety only for a whole paper sat to time or a serious read-through of an internally assessed draft. The constraint is not budget but absorption: a Grade 12 student sitting down at half past seven after a full school day has limited capacity for new correction, and ninety minutes frequently buys twenty-five minutes of value. Two shorter sessions in a week usually beat one long one, which is a scheduling question rather than a pricing one.

What should I watch for during the free first individual lesson?+

Whether the tutor opens the marked work you sent or their own placement test. A specialist reads your child's lost marks, sorts them by category, names the most expensive one and teaches into it inside the hour. Three warning signs: starting with their own assessment instead of your evidence, explaining confidently without ever watching the student write, and producing no written record afterwards. Positive signs: asking which school, asking what the student thinks went wrong, and going backwards when a foundation turns out to be missing.

Does one-to-one work as well over video as in the same room?+

For the work that matters at this ratio, yes, because the marking happens on the student's own writing either way. The student writes on a shared whiteboard, the tutor annotates it, and both see the pen move. What changes is who is available: online, a Dubai family picks from specialists rather than from whoever can reach their community by five o'clock, which decides the match entirely for minority Higher Level subjects. Presence in the room is a real preference, and IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE.

How do I stop a weekly individual slot from collapsing by week six?+

Agree the fallback at the start. Pick a weekday slot that is slightly inconvenient for everybody and therefore holds, add a standing weekend morning option for the weeks the weekday fails, and settle Ramadan timing in writing in advance rather than when the month arrives. Dubai arrangements end from calendar drift far more often than from bad teaching: a late school bus, a sibling's fixture, a parent's commute. Writing the exceptions down removes the weekly renegotiation that quietly kills the arrangement.

What happens if we do not get on with the individual tutor we are matched with?+

The match changes, quickly, and it costs one session rather than a month because the record travels. The marked scripts, error-class tally and session notes belong to your family, so a replacement tutor reads a term of work before their first lesson and starts from the diagnosis rather than repeating it. Matches fail for reasons that are nobody's fault, including explanation style and plain personality mismatch. A provider that treats a rejected match as a problem is managing its roster rather than your child's grade.

Is individual tutoring worth it for a subject my child is already passing?+

It depends on what the target is and where the marks sit. Moving a 5 to a 6 in a subject that matters for an offer is often the most efficient individual work available, because the gap is usually technique rather than content and technique responds fast to marking. Moving a 6 to a 7 is harder and takes longer. Moving a 3 to a 4 is usually a content and sequence problem that needs more hours than families expect. Ask which of the three you are buying before you commit.

Can an individual tutor help with my child's Extended Essay without crossing a line?+

Yes, and the boundary is specific rather than a matter of judgement. A tutor may explain what a criterion asks for in its own language, read a draft the student has written and say which criterion is unmet and why, ask the questions the criteria ask, teach the method or statistics the work needs, and hold the schedule. A tutor may not supply sentences, restructure on the student's behalf, hand over a research question, or edit a draft into a higher band. Your school's own rules on drafts take precedence.

When is a ratio of one the wrong thing to buy in Dubai?+

Three cases. When the content is simply missing because a term was lost and the reason is already known, in which case volume is cheaper in a group or through marked independent work. When a family needs some support across four subjects on a fixed budget, where a mixture beats one subject done beautifully while three drift. And when the problem is not academic at all, which is why the first conversation asks what else is happening rather than what the grade is.

Do individual Dubai tutors need a government permit to teach my child?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation grants the private tuition work permit free of charge for two years through its own smart app, website and e-services system. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents and university students. Tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted amount sceptically.

How quickly can a 1-to-1 match be arranged in Dubai?+

Usually a named tutor, a proposed session length and a slot in Gulf Standard Time within two working days of receiving the subject, level, school and a sample of marked work, with the free first lesson shortly after. The honest exception is coverage. Diploma mathematics, the sciences, economics, business and English are deep. Several group two languages, some arts subjects and minority options are thinner, and when nothing suitable is free we give a realistic wait rather than filling the slot with an adjacent-subject teacher.

Is there any discount for booking a term of individual sessions up front?+

We would rather you did not, and that is deliberate. Buying a term in advance removes the one decision point that protects a family's money, which is the four-session review where you receive a written continue, change or stop recommendation with the evidence behind it. Four sessions is enough to produce a diagnosis, marked work and a named recurring error class, and short enough that stopping costs little. If any provider will only sell a term, ask yourself what the review would have told you.

Buy the ratio you actually need

Decide first whether you need diagnosis or volume, because that answer settles the ratio and most of the cost. Then send the subject, the level, the school and a recent piece of marked work. We come back with a named tutor, a proposed session length and a protected slot in Gulf Standard Time, usually within two working days. The first lesson is free for one student per family with no card details collected, and it is spent on the work you sent. Every match is one student with one tutor over live video, and if nothing suitable is free when you need it, you will be told so rather than offered a substitute.
