IB MYP Eassessment Preparation in Dubai

IB MYP eAssessment preparation in Dubai is a cost question before it is an academic one: the on-screen examinations are two hours of task-based work rather than recall, so a term of weekly tutoring buys skill practice rather than content cramming. This page prices the market in AED per month, names what moves the number in this emirate, and sets the figure beside Dubai school fees. Lessons run online, one to one.

  • Monthly AED ranges, each attributed to the provider that published them
  • On-screen examinations run two hours and are task-based, not recall
  • ePortfolios are teacher-assessed and externally moderated by the IB
  • KHDA confirmed no private school fee increase for 2026-27

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Why the price of this particular preparation behaves differently

The MYP eAssessment is not a set of subject exams with a syllabus to finish. It is an externally assessed route to the IB MYP Certificate, built from on-screen examinations, teacher-assessed ePortfolios, the Personal Project and the service-as-action requirement. The on-screen examinations run for two hours and are task-based: a student is given unfamiliar stimulus material and asked to do something with it, applying conceptual understanding and the Approaches to Learning skills rather than reciting content. That single fact changes what tutoring is worth and therefore what it should cost.

Content cramming is poor value here. A tutor working at AED 250 an hour on memorised definitions is being paid to prepare a student for the wrong exam. The same money spent on handling unseen stimulus, reading command terms accurately, structuring a response under a clock and practising the on-screen interface converts into marks. Families who understand the distinction tend to buy fewer hours and get more out of them, which is the honest version of value in this market.

Dubai prices follow the shape of the wider tutoring market rather than anything MYP-specific. Published figures run from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour at the budget end, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, and AED 200 to 450 and above for IB specialist work, with a premium named tier reaching AED 650. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four in-home visits of two hours. Every one of those figures belongs to the provider that published it, not to IB Gram.

What moves the number in this emirate specifically is worth naming, because it is not the emirate's cost of living. It is the component, the proximity of the examination window, whether the tutor marks work between sessions, whether the subject group is thinly covered, and whether you are paying for travel. The last of those is the largest single swing, which is why the in-home line in every published rate table sits above the online line by a wide margin.

Delivery here is online, one to one, over live video. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai, since that is an India-only service, and for an assessment sat on a computer that is more than a convenience. A student practising an on-screen examination wants to practise on a screen, with the tutor watching how they move through tasks, which is closer to the real thing than a kitchen table with a printed paper on it.

The rest of this page is organised the way a parent actually decides. First what the assessment is and which components your child may be registered for, because that governs everything. Then the market priced by the month rather than by the hour, with each figure attributed to whoever published it. Then the five things that genuinely move a Dubai quote, the difference between buying examination technique and buying portfolio support, where marks go on a two-hour task-based paper, and a cost-in-context table setting a term of preparation beside the emirate's school fee position.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Pricing a term of preparation sensibly means knowing which stage your child is at and what the next one demands, because the cost of catching up later is almost always higher than the cost of preparing now.

MYPAges 11-15 · Years 7-10

Middle Years Programme, years 1 to 4

Eight subject groups, each assessed internally against four criteria marked zero to eight. No external component, so families often buy no tutoring at all during these years. The risk is that criterion-based writing and command-term accuracy are never drilled, and both arrive as a bill in year five.

Dubai schools admit heavily into the MYP from British and Indian curricula at Years 7 and 9, and a student who arrives in Year 10 has had one year of criterion marking rather than four. That is the single most common reason a Dubai family finds themselves buying a concentrated and expensive block in year five.

MYP 5Ages 15-16 · Year 11

MYP year five and the eAssessment

The externally assessed year. On-screen examinations in groups such as language and literature, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics and interdisciplinary learning; ePortfolios in language acquisition, arts, physical and health education and design; plus the Personal Project and service as action. Grades run one to seven per result.

Not every Dubai MYP school enters students for the certificate, and some enter for selected components only. Ask the coordinator which components your child is registered for before buying anything, because paying for preparation in a component the school is not entering is the most expensive mistake available here.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across Higher and Standard Level, with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Grades one to seven per subject and up to three core points, to a forty-five point maximum. The Diploma rewards precisely the skills an on-screen examination tests, which is why year five preparation has value beyond the certificate.

In Dubai the Diploma is the destination for most MYP students who stay in the IB, and specialist Diploma tutoring is the most expensive tier in the published market at AED 200 to 450 and above. Money spent on examination technique in year five reduces the hours needed at a higher rate two years later.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Price varies by component rather than by difficulty, so the grid below is organised by what each subject group is actually assessed with and the kind of session that earns its fee there.

Language and Literature

On-screen examination

A two-hour task-based paper built on unseen texts. Preparation that pays is timed response structure and precise handling of the command terms; preparation that does not is reading more set texts, since the stimulus is unfamiliar by design.

Individuals and Societies

On-screen examination, integrated humanities

Integrated rather than split into history and geography, which unsettles students taught in separate blocks. Source handling, data interpretation and argument structure are the chargeable skills. Content revision has the lowest return of any component.

Sciences

On-screen examination, integrated sciences

Biology, chemistry and physics in one task-based paper, often with data to interpret and a method to critique. Sessions are worth their rate when spent on reading graphs under time pressure and writing conclusions that reference the evidence given.

Mathematics

On-screen examination, standard and extended

Standard and extended routes differ in content and in expected depth. The marks move on interpreting an unfamiliar context into mathematics and showing method on screen, which is a different discipline from the paper-based working students are used to.

Interdisciplinary learning

On-screen examination

The component nobody prepares for and the one most likely to need paid help, because it is not owned by a single teacher. Students are asked to integrate two disciplines on unfamiliar stimulus. Two or three focused sessions usually cover it.

Language Acquisition

ePortfolio

Assessed by the teacher against criteria and moderated externally, with phases rather than year groups. Tutoring here is process work on drafting and on oral task preparation, and a tutor may never produce any part of the submitted portfolio.

Arts

ePortfolio

Visual art, music, drama and film, assessed on process and reflection as much as outcome. The cost-effective session is a criterion audit of what the student has already made, rather than a weekly hour across a whole year.

Physical and Health Education

ePortfolio

Planning, performance and reflection components documented over time. Families rarely budget for this and often need one or two sessions on the written reflection, which is where the criteria concentrate and where marks are commonly left behind.

Design

ePortfolio

Inquiry, development, creation and evaluation, documented as a cycle. Design students usually need help only on the evaluation criterion, which makes it one of the cheapest components to support properly.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy this preparation, priced differently because the hours differ rather than because the rate does. All three are delivered online.

Component block: three to five sessions

The cheapest honest option, aimed at one component. Typically used for interdisciplinary learning or for an ePortfolio evaluation criterion. The tutor diagnoses from one piece of existing work, runs three to five sessions, and stops. Total cost is a fraction of a term plan and for many families it is all that is needed.

  • One component, diagnosed from work the student already has
  • Three to five sessions, with an end date agreed up front
  • Written note of what was fixed and what remains
  • No rolling commitment after the block closes

Weekly technique sessions across a term

One session a week for ten to twelve weeks before the examination window, spent on unfamiliar stimulus under timing rather than on content. Market monthly estimates for a weekly hour run from AED 600 to 1,200 at mid tier and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work, by Bestimate's published figures.

  • Unseen stimulus every week, worked under the clock
  • Command-term accuracy drilled on real task wording
  • On-screen practice rather than printed papers
  • Marked work returned between sessions, not summarised

Two sessions a week in the final month

The most expensive configuration and occasionally the right one, where a student is entered for several on-screen examinations and has no examination technique at all. Doubling frequency doubles the monthly figure, so it is worth agreeing in advance how many weeks it runs for and what evidence would justify stopping early.

  • Two sessions weekly, each a full task under timing
  • Raw marks recorded so the plan can be cut short honestly
  • A stated number of weeks rather than an open arrangement
  • Review after two weeks against the first marked task

01

What the eAssessment is, and why it changes the value of an hour

The MYP eAssessment is the external route to the IB MYP Certificate at the end of year five. It is built from on-screen examinations in subject groups such as language and literature, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics and interdisciplinary learning; from ePortfolios in language acquisition, arts, physical and health education and design; from the Personal Project, which is externally moderated; and from the service-as-action requirement. Results are reported as grades from one to seven.

Two features of the on-screen examinations change what a tutoring hour is worth. The first is that they are two hours long and task-based: the student meets unfamiliar stimulus material and is asked to apply conceptual understanding and Approaches to Learning skills to it. The second is that they are sat on a computer, with the interface, the typing and the on-screen navigation forming part of the experience. Neither rewards memorised content, and a tutor selling content revision for this component is selling the wrong product at the right price.

That is also why the honest answer to how many hours a family needs is often lower than they expect. A student with secure subject knowledge and no examination technique can improve substantially in a short technique-led block, and a tutor who says so is giving up revenue. Any provider quoting a year-long plan before looking at a piece of the student's work is quoting the plan rather than the problem.

One warning on certificate requirements. The number of components a student must sit, and the points total the certificate requires, are set by the IB and applied by your school, and no figure for either is published on this page because none has been verified from an official source for it. Ask your MYP coordinator for the current requirements in writing. A page that invents a threshold for you is a page you cannot check.

02

What MYP eAssessment preparation costs in Dubai, by the month

Hourly rates are how tutors quote and monthly totals are how families actually decide, so this section runs on monthly figures. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table estimates a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 at mid tier, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Those three bands cover most of what a Dubai family will be quoted for this preparation.

Packages in the market price differently again. An online package advertised at AED 799 a month for eight sessions works out below the mid-tier hourly equivalent, which usually means shorter sessions, no marking between them, or a less specialised tutor. An in-home monthly package of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits prices travel into every visit. Neither is wrong; both need reading against what the hour contains.

The underlying hourly bands are worth stating once so the monthly figures can be checked. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270 for an IB specialist. Bestimate places specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED's premium named tier reaches AED 650. In-home one-to-one sits at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate, with independent tutors quoted up to AED 500.

IB Gram does not appear in that table, and deliberately so. Our own rate is quoted after the free trial lesson, with the session length and whether marking is included stated in writing. Publishing a headline figure without those two details is how the market ends up with quotes that look comparable and are not.

What actually moves the number in this emirate

Travel is the largest single driver and the easiest to remove. Every published Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one above online one-to-one, and the gap is travel time rather than teaching quality. For a family in Mirdif or Dubai Hills, where the drive from the school cluster is long, that premium is at its widest. Removing it does not reduce the teaching; it reduces the mileage, and the saved budget buys either more hours or a more specialised tutor.

The component matters next. An ePortfolio evaluation criterion is a two-session job. A set of on-screen examinations with no technique in place is a term. Pricing those identically is how families end up on a year plan for a problem that needed a fortnight, so insist on a diagnosis from a real piece of work before agreeing a length.

Proximity to the examination window raises prices through scarcity rather than through any published increase: the tutors who know the component are booked, and what is left is whoever is free. Booking the block before the window opens is the one decision that reliably lowers the price a family pays, and it costs nothing to make early.

Two smaller drivers are worth checking in any quote. Whether the tutor marks work between sessions, because that time is real and a rate excluding it is not comparable with one including it. And whether the subject group is thinly covered, since a scarce combination such as integrated sciences at extended level with an interdisciplinary component attracts a specialist rate. The table sets out each driver with what a parent can actually do about it.

On-screen examinations and ePortfolios are two different purchases

Treating these as one product is the main reason families overpay. An on-screen examination is externally set and externally marked, sat under timing in a fixed window, and prepared for through repeated practice on unfamiliar material. An ePortfolio is assessed by the student's own teacher against criteria and then moderated externally by the IB, built over months from the student's own work.

The tutoring that helps differs accordingly, and so does the honest limit on it. For an on-screen examination a tutor can set tasks, mark them, drill command terms and rehearse the interface, with no boundary problem at all. For an ePortfolio the tutor is working alongside a teacher-assessed submission, which means explaining criteria, questioning a plan and commenting on a draft, and never producing any part of the portfolio. A provider offering to prepare portfolio material for submission is offering malpractice.

That difference shows up in the cost. Examination technique is sold by the hour and benefits from repetition, so it is the component that justifies a weekly commitment. Portfolio work is diagnostic and episodic: a criterion audit, a conversation about evidence, a draft read. Most families need two or three portfolio sessions in total and are quoted for twelve.

The table below sets the components against each other so you can price your child's actual registration rather than a generic MYP plan. Confirm the registration with the school first, because entering for selected components only is common in Dubai.

05

Where marks go on a two-hour on-screen examination

  • Command wording read and matched before any answer is written
  • Three full papers rehearsed under timing, marked and reviewed
  • Five different stimulus sets handled, not one familiar topic
  • On-screen practice so the interface is not new on the day

The first loss is misreading the task. Task-based papers use command wording precisely, and a student who identifies when asked to evaluate, or who describes when asked to justify, has written a competent answer to a question nobody set. This is trainable in a handful of sessions and it is the highest-return work available for the money, because the content knowledge is usually already there.

The second loss is time. Two hours across a task-based paper means the final task is routinely rushed or abandoned, and the final task is often the one carrying the most conceptual weight. Students who have never sat a full paper under timing do not discover this until the day. Three full rehearsals, marked and reviewed, change the distribution of marks across the paper more than any amount of topic revision.

The third loss is the stimulus itself. Unfamiliar material is the design of the assessment rather than an accident, and a student who expects to recognise the content freezes when they do not. The habit to build is mechanical: read the stimulus for what kind of thing it is, note what it allows you to claim, then answer the task using it. Practised on five different stimulus sets, that habit holds on the sixth.

The fourth loss is the screen. Typing speed, moving between tasks, keeping working visible for a mathematics response, and resisting the urge to write long where short is wanted are all specific to an on-screen format. Printed past papers do not train any of them, which is one practical argument for preparing online rather than at a table with a pen.

06

The ePortfolio boundary, and why it protects your money as well as your child

An ePortfolio is assessed by the student's own teacher against published criteria and then moderated externally by the IB. The work in it must be the student's. A tutor may explain what a criterion descriptor is asking for, question whether a piece of evidence actually shows what the student claims, and comment on a draft by naming the criterion and the band. A tutor may not write, rewrite, produce or polish material for submission.

This is a financial point as well as an ethical one. A provider willing to produce portfolio content is charging for work that, if detected, costs the student the qualification rather than costing the provider anything. One site competing for UAE coursework searches advertises completed Internal Assessments at a fixed fee. A family buying that is paying for a risk transfer that runs entirely in the wrong direction.

Stated plainly, the boundary also makes the sessions cheaper. Explaining a criterion and auditing evidence takes two or three sessions. Shadow-writing a portfolio takes many more and produces a student who still cannot read a descriptor, which is the skill the Diploma will demand two years later at a specialist hourly rate.

Written comments left in the student's own document are the practical form this takes. They are evidence of honest support if the school asks, they can be shown to the teacher assessing the work, and they survive the session in a way a verbal conversation does not. That is worth asking for in any quote, whoever you buy from.

07

Tutoring cost in context: Dubai school fees and what a term actually represents

A tutoring quote means little without something to measure it against, and Dubai gives a useful anchor. The KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. A family that budgeted for a fee rise and did not get one has, in effect, found the cost of a term of preparation.

The scale of the sector explains why the tutoring market is as varied as it is. Dubai had 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with UK programmes at 37 per cent of students, Indian at 26 per cent, US at 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three IB, creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose six per cent.

Those figures carry two implications for a parent pricing this preparation. IB families are a minority of a very large market, so general tutoring supply is deep and IB-specific supply is thin, which is why the specialist band sits where it does. And three new IB schools entering the market increases demand for MYP-trained tutors before it increases the supply of them, which argues for booking early rather than waiting.

The table sets a term of preparation beside the other costs in a Dubai academic year. It is deliberately unflattering in places: a weekly specialist hour across a year is a significant sum, and the honest response is to buy the component rather than the calendar.

Buying this honestly, including what happens when we cannot help

The sequence that keeps the cost down is unglamorous. Confirm with the school which components your child is registered for and when the window falls. Send one piece of the student's own work in the heaviest component. Take the free trial lesson with the tutor who would continue. Ask for a diagnosis and a proposed number of sessions with an end date, in writing. Then decide. Any step skipped tends to be paid for in extra hours later.

A diagnosis should name a component, a specific weakness and a number. Command-term accuracy in integrated sciences, four sessions, with a rehearsal paper at session two and session four is a plan you can hold somebody to. General support for MYP in the run-up to eAssessment is not a plan and cannot be priced sensibly, because nothing in it can be judged complete.

Some combinations are thinly covered at any given moment. Integrated sciences at extended level, less common language acquisition phases, and the interdisciplinary component are the usual gaps. Where no specialist is free, the honest options are a named date when one is, an adjacent component a current tutor can teach well, or being told plainly that we cannot help with this one. Taking a booking for a component nobody on the platform teaches properly costs a family the term that mattered.

Every AED figure on this page belongs to the provider or source that published it, and none of them is an IB Gram price. No success rate, average grade or satisfaction figure appears anywhere on this page, because none could be produced with a sample size, a date and a method. And no tutor can promise a grade on an externally marked on-screen examination, whatever the rate.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Location changes the price of tutoring in Dubai mainly through travel, which is why the in-home line in every published rate table sits well above the online one. The notes below are about scheduling and supply rather than about any area paying a premium.

Al Barsha and Barsha Heights

Several MYP schools within a short radius, so in-home tutors can serve more than one household an evening and quote accordingly. Online pricing is unaffected by that, which is the point worth checking when comparing two quotes.

Emirates Hills and Dubai Hills

Villa communities feeding full-continuum IB schools. In-home quotes here tend towards the upper end of the published AED 180 to 500 band because of distance between gates, not because of the subject.

Mirdif and Dubai Festival City

A long commute from the main school cluster, so a 16:00 session is unrealistic and evening in-home slots carry the heaviest travel cost. The eastern suburbs are where the online price advantage is widest.

Business Bay and Downtown

Central apartments with short school runs and tight study space. Two shorter sessions often work better than one long block here, and on an hourly rate that changes the monthly figure.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Sports City

A high share of recent arrivals, so students joining the MYP in Year 9 or 10 are common. Those students need more hours in year five, which is a budgeting fact worth knowing in Year 9 rather than Year 11.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

University-belt families with technical leanings. Demand concentrates on mathematics extended and the interdisciplinary component, both of which are short, specific pieces of work rather than year-long plans.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Western Dubai: Emirates Hills, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

Continuum IB schools where students reach year five with four years of criterion marking behind them. Preparation here is usually a short, technique-led block rather than a long plan, which prices accordingly.

  • Dubai International Academy, Emirates Hills
  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy, Dubai
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Universal American School

Central and eastern Dubai: Mirdif, Al Jaddaf and Festival City

A mix of continuum schools and schools admitting into the MYP from other curricula. The second group generates most of the demand for concentrated year-five blocks, because the criterion vocabulary has to be built rather than revised.

  • Uptown International School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Greenfield International School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • The Aquila School

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the registration before you spend anything

Ask the MYP coordinator which components your child is entered for, whether the school is seeking the certificate, and when the examination window falls. Dubai schools enter different mixes. Paying for preparation in a component the school is not entering is the most expensive error available in this market, and one email prevents it.

  2. 02

Send one piece of real work

A past task, a timed attempt, a portfolio draft, anything the student produced themselves. A tutor reading one real piece can name the weakness and estimate the hours. A tutor quoting without seeing any work is quoting a plan rather than a problem, and that plan is always longer than the problem.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson, then a written diagnosis

The trial is a real session with the tutor who would continue, with no card details taken beforehand. It ends with a short written note: the component, the specific weakness, the proposed number of sessions and an end date. You keep that note and can compare it with any other quote you hold.

  4. 04

Marked tasks, recorded marks, honest stopping point

Each session sets a task that is marked and returned rather than discussed. Raw marks are recorded so improvement is visible and so the block can be cut short when the problem is solved. A provider who never proposes stopping is being paid for attendance rather than for progress.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced by component, not by calendar

A portfolio evaluation criterion is a two-session job and a set of on-screen examinations with no technique is a term. Quoting both as a year plan is how families overspend here, so the diagnosis names a component and a number of sessions with an end date.

Every figure attributed, none of them ours

The AED bands on this page belong to EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, TutorChase, Bestimate and BartyED, each named beside its figure. IB Gram quotes its own rate after the trial, with session length and marking stated, because a bare hourly number cannot be compared.

Online because the assessment is on a screen

An on-screen examination rewards practice on a screen: navigation, typing, keeping method visible, resisting long answers where short ones score. Printed past papers train none of that. No home visits are offered anywhere in the UAE, and for this component that is an advantage rather than a limitation.

A stated line on portfolio work

A tutor will explain criteria, question evidence and comment on drafts, and will write no part of an ePortfolio or a Personal Project. Stating that before you book protects the student's qualification, and it also keeps the number of sessions honest.

No invented certificate thresholds

No points total or component count for the MYP certificate is published here, because none was verified from an official source for this page. Your coordinator can give you the current requirements in writing, which is better than a figure on a tutoring site that nobody can check.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Is the MYP eAssessment compulsory for my child at a Dubai school?+

No. The eAssessment is the optional external route to the IB MYP Certificate, and Dubai schools make different choices about it. Some enter students for the full set of components, some for a selection, and some do not enter at all while still teaching the MYP. Your coordinator can confirm what your child is registered for and when the examination window falls. Ask before buying any preparation, because paying for a component the school is not entering is the single most expensive mistake available in this market.

What is the difference between an on-screen examination and an ePortfolio?+

An on-screen examination is set and marked externally by the IB, sat on a computer under timing in a fixed window, and built on unfamiliar stimulus material rather than recall. An ePortfolio is a collection of the student's own work assessed by their teacher against criteria and then moderated externally. The preparation differs completely: examinations reward repeated timed practice, while portfolios need a criterion audit and draft comments. So does the cost, because the first justifies a weekly commitment and the second usually takes two or three sessions.

What does a term of this preparation cost per month in Dubai?+

Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table estimates a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 at mid tier, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Packages advertised in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four in-home two-hour visits. Those are the providers' own published figures. Ask any quote whether marking between sessions is included, because that is where comparable-looking rates diverge.

Why is an on-screen examination harder to revise for than an IGCSE paper?+

Because there is less to memorise and more to do. The paper is task-based, runs two hours, and hands the student unfamiliar stimulus material they are expected to work with rather than recognise. A student who has revised content thoroughly can still score poorly by misreading a command term, running out of time on the final task, or freezing because the material is unfamiliar. The preparation that works is repeated timed practice on different stimulus sets, marked and reworked, which is a different purchase from topic revision.

Can a tutor help with the ePortfolio my child's own teacher is assessing?+

Within a clear limit, yes. A tutor can explain what a criterion descriptor is asking for, question whether a piece of evidence shows what the student claims it shows, and comment on a draft by naming the criterion and the band it currently sits in. A tutor cannot write, rewrite or produce any portfolio material. The work is assessed by the teacher and moderated by the IB, and submitted work that is not the student's own is malpractice, with the consequence falling on the student rather than on whoever was paid.

How many components does the IB MYP Certificate require?+

The IB sets the number of required results and the points threshold, and your school applies them. No figure for either is published on this page, because none was verified from an official source for it, and an unsourced threshold on a tutoring site is exactly the sort of number families act on and should not. Ask your MYP coordinator for the current requirements in writing. Knowing the threshold matters for budgeting: it tells you which components carry weight and therefore where preparation money is worth spending.

Does the eAssessment matter if my child is staying for the IB Diploma anyway?+

The certificate itself may matter less if the student continues in the same school, but the skills transfer directly. On-screen examinations test conceptual application, unfamiliar stimulus handling and timed structure, which is what Diploma papers test at a higher level. Specialist Diploma tutoring is the most expensive published tier in Dubai at AED 200 to 450 and above, so technique built in year five reduces the hours needed later at a higher rate. Ask the school how it uses eAssessment results in Diploma course counselling, because practice varies.

Is this preparation cheaper than IGCSE tutoring in Dubai?+

Per hour, no. Published rates do not distinguish by programme in a meaningful way, with Unitors quoting IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200 an hour. Per plan, it is often cheaper, because the useful work is technique rather than syllabus coverage and therefore shorter. An IGCSE year plan typically runs weekly across two terms; an on-screen examination block is ten to twelve weeks and a portfolio audit is two or three sessions. The total is what matters, and it is worth asking for both figures.

Do tutors come to our apartment in Business Bay or Downtown for MYP sessions?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE, because that is an India-only service, and all sessions are delivered online over live video. For this preparation the online format is the better match rather than a compromise. The on-screen examination is sat on a computer, so practising on one is practising the real thing, and the tutor can watch how the student navigates tasks and manages time. It also removes the travel premium that sits between the published online and in-home rate bands.

Does starting earlier reduce what we spend overall?+

Usually, for two reasons that have nothing to do with discounts. Scarcity near the examination window means the tutors who know the components are booked and what remains is whoever is free, often at a specialist rate. And a student who has been shown criterion-based writing in Year 9 or 10 needs a shorter block in year five than one meeting it for the first time. The practical advice is to book the block before the window opens and to keep it short and specific rather than long and general.

Does the interdisciplinary on-screen examination need its own sessions?+

Often yes, and it is the component families most reliably forget to budget for. It is not owned by a single subject teacher, so nobody at school is revising it in the way a science teacher revises science. Students are asked to integrate two disciplines on unfamiliar stimulus, which is a technique rather than a body of content. Two or three sessions on how to make an integrated claim and support it from both disciplines covers most of what is needed, which makes it one of the cheapest components to fix properly.

Are Dubai school fees going up, and how does tutoring compare with a fee rise?+

The KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. For a family that had budgeted for an increase, that is roughly the cost of a term of mid-tier weekly tutoring at AED 600 to 1,200 a month. It is a useful way to size the decision, though a component block of three to five sessions is a far smaller commitment.

How does service as action fit into the certificate requirements?+

It is a requirement recorded and confirmed by the school rather than an assessed component, so no tutoring is needed for it and nobody should sell you any. The only practical point is that the record has to exist and be complete, and students who leave it until the final term create an administrative problem in the middle of their examination preparation. Check with the coordinator that your child's record is up to date early in year five, which costs nothing and removes one avoidable distraction from the examination window.

What happens if no tutor covers the subject group we need?+

You are told before you pay. Integrated sciences at extended level, less common language acquisition phases and the interdisciplinary component are the combinations most often thin at a given moment. The honest options are a named date when a specialist is free, a start on an adjacent component that a current tutor teaches well, or being told plainly that we cannot help with this one. Accepting a booking for a component nobody teaches properly costs a family the weeks that mattered, which is worse than an inconvenient answer.

Does the quoted rate include marking between sessions or only the live hour?+

Ask, in writing, because the answer differs across the market and it is the line item that makes two similar-looking rates incomparable. Setting a task, marking it against criteria and writing usable comments takes real time outside the lesson, and a rate that excludes it either does not include the marking or absorbs it invisibly. For this preparation the marked task is the product, since improvement on an on-screen examination comes from reworking marked attempts rather than from discussion. IB Gram states the inclusion when it quotes.

Price the component, not the calendar

Before you compare quotes, do two things that cost nothing. Ask your MYP coordinator which components your child is registered for and when the window falls, then send one piece of the student's own work in the heaviest of them. With those in hand a tutor can name the weakness and a number of sessions with an end date, which is a quote you can judge. Take the free trial lesson with the tutor who would continue, ask whether marking between sessions is included, and keep the block short and specific. Every AED figure on this page belongs to the provider that published it, so you can check all of it yourself.
