IB Home Tutor in Dubai: What the Hourly Rate Really Buys

Search for an IB home tutor in Dubai and almost nobody will tell you the price. Three of the six pages currently ranking publish no figure at all, and two quote dollars. This page publishes the dirham bands, names who charges what, and itemises exactly what a visit adds to the hourly rate before anyone teaches anything. Then it explains why IB Gram delivers the same one-to-one teaching over live video instead, and lets the arithmetic make the case.

  • Every dirham figure attributed to the provider or survey that published it
  • Travel, minimum blocks and cancellation costs itemised, not buried
  • Permit position explained: MoHRE, free of charge, two years

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The price nobody in this market will print

A parent looking for an IB home tutor in Dubai wants one number and cannot find it. Of the pages competing for this search, one agency's own frequently asked questions ask what tutoring costs and then decline to answer. Another publishes a schema price range that contradicts the figure on the visible page. Two quote in US dollars, a currency no Dubai family pays a tutor in. The research behind this page measured the whole cluster: three of six published pages carry no price at all.

That silence is commercially convenient and useless to you, so here is the market in dirhams. Published rates run from about AED 45 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 an hour for a named premium provider. Qualified subject teachers working online cluster between AED 150 and AED 300. Diploma, IGCSE and A Level specialists sit between AED 200 and AED 450 or above. Rates quoted for a tutor travelling to a Dubai address run from about AED 180 to AED 500, and that spread is mostly travel, not teaching.

The gap between AED 150 and AED 450 for what looks like the same hour is the question this page exists to answer. Four variables explain almost all of it: whether the tutor teaches that exact subject at that exact level, whether the hour includes travel across the emirate, whether the booking is a single hour or a committed block, and how close the session sits to an exam window. None of those is about the tutor being better as a person. They are about scarcity, time and risk.

Dubai also has a cost context worth putting on the table. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For a family budgeting a two-year Diploma, that is the first flat fee year in some time, and it is the right moment to decide what tutoring is for rather than to buy hours by default.

One thing to be clear about before the tables start. IB Gram does not send a tutor to any address in the UAE. In-home visiting is a service offered only in India, and no page on this site will tell a Dubai family otherwise. What is sold here is one-to-one teaching over live video on Gulf Standard Time, priced without a travel component and matched on subject rather than on driving distance. The comparison table further down sets the two models side by side, with the numbers, and you can judge it. The short version is that the in-home band starts roughly where the online specialist band tops out, and the money in between is spent on driving rather than on teaching.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Price follows programme, because the assessment load and the scarcity of qualified teachers both change as a pupil moves up the continuum. The notes below give the cost logic for each stage rather than a programme description.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The cheapest stage to tutor, because the pool of people competent to teach it is large. Published budget rates from around AED 45 to AED 150 an hour are genuinely usable here, and a university student with good maths can do a Year 4 pupil real good. What you are buying is practice and fluency, not specification expertise, so paying specialist rates at this stage buys very little extra.

Dubai adds a wrinkle elsewhere absent. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in every private school regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils. Tutoring for those mandatory subjects is priced separately in this market and is often harder to source than the main curriculum, because the content cannot be varied without prior Ministry of Education permission.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Mid-market rates apply, roughly AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject teacher online. Criterion-referenced marking out of 8 per criterion is the thing worth paying for: a tutor who can read a criterion strand and show a pupil why a good answer scored 4 earns their rate in two sessions. A generalist who teaches the content and ignores the criteria does not.

Several Dubai schools run MYP only to Year 9 before switching to IGCSE. Families who discover this late often buy a term of bridging support, and the going rate for that work sits at the upper end of the mid band because it needs a tutor fluent in two assessment cultures at once rather than one.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The most expensive stage, for a straightforward supply reason. Higher Level teaching in a named subject with current experience of the papers is scarce, and specialist rates of AED 200 to AED 450 or above reflect that. Internal assessment supervision is quoted at the same level, because the work is intensive and sits against immovable school deadlines rather than a flexible weekly slot.

Dubai Diploma cohorts are often small, which keeps local specialist supply thin and local prices firm, especially between February and April before the May session. Confirm session and upload dates with your school's Diploma coordinator or the IB directly, because those dates are set by the IB and revised, and no tutoring page should be your source for them.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Priced like the Diploma for the DP courses inside it, because they are marked identically, and quoted ad hoc for the reflective project and career-related study. Few providers in this market have ever supported a Career-related Programme candidate, so quotes vary wildly and are worth comparing against the Diploma specialist band rather than accepting at face value.

Only a small number of Dubai schools license the Career-related Programme. A family seeking local support is therefore searching a market of a handful of people, which pushes quotes up for reasons that have nothing to do with the difficulty of the work. Online matching removes that scarcity premium.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Some subjects cost more than others, and parents are rarely told why. The driver is the number of people in reach who can teach that subject at that level, not the difficulty of the content. Each entry below notes where the money goes.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Among the most expensive Diploma subjects to tutor in this market, because Higher Level organic mechanisms and the individual investigation both need someone who has marked them. Sessions on Paper 1 stem reading and state symbols in extended response pay back fastest, and they do not need the most expensive tutor in the pool.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

High demand keeps rates firm, especially for Higher Level Paper 3. The calculator-free Paper 1 is where most of the marks are lost, and drilling manual fluency is cheap work that a mid-band tutor can do well. Paper 3 technique is where a specialist rate is genuinely justified.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Slightly easier to staff than Analysis and Approaches, so quotes sit a little lower. The marks are in interpretation: regression and chi-squared output explained in the context of the question rather than left as numbers. A statistics-comfortable tutor at mid-band rates handles this well.

Physics

HL and SL

Expensive at Higher Level and genuinely scarce locally. The data-analysis section of Paper 3 is the most coachable component and the least taught in class, which makes it the best value hour in the subject. Explanation structure, not calculation, is where most Dubai candidates lose marks.

Biology

HL and SL

Easier to source than Physics or Chemistry, so rates sit mid-band more often. Content volume makes long-term weekly support tempting, but command-term discipline and data-based question technique are short, cheap interventions that move grades faster than a term of content revision.

Economics

HL and SL

Demand in Dubai is high and Higher Level supply is moderate, so quotes run toward the specialist band. Diagram marks and the three-commentary internal assessment portfolio are the two places money is well spent, because both are rule-bound and therefore fast to correct.

Business Management

HL and SL

The pre-released case study for Paper 1 means the preparation window is known months ahead, which makes a short block of booked sessions better value than a year-long slot. Candidates pay for tool application to the stimulus, not for definitions of Ansoff and the BCG matrix.

Psychology

HL and SL

Moderate supply, mid-band rates. Value concentrates in building a bank of studies that each carry a method, a finding and a limitation, which is systematic work rather than inspired teaching. The experimental study in internal assessment is marked on the write-up, so draft feedback is the costly part.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Cheaper to source than the sciences and frequently under-booked by Dubai families until after the first Paper 2 mock. The comparative-essay fix is structural and quick, which makes this one of the highest-return mid-band bookings in the Diploma.

Arabic and the mandatory UAE subjects

First language and additional language

A genuinely scarce market in Dubai, because KHDA requires schools to ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, and the content cannot be varied without Ministry of Education permission. Quotes for this work are therefore inconsistent and worth comparing carefully.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

What you book changes the price more than who you book. These three shapes cover most Dubai Diploma requests, and the cheapest per hour is frequently the most expensive per mark gained.

Committed weekly slot

A fixed hour each week with the same specialist, usually quoted at a lower hourly figure than ad hoc booking because the tutor can plan around it. It is the right purchase when a content gap genuinely needs rebuilding over a term. It is the wrong purchase when the fault is a single technique problem that three sessions would fix.

  • Lowest effective hourly figure of the three shapes
  • Worth buying only where a real content gap exists
  • Needs ten or more weeks to show in marked work
  • Review at four weeks, with an honest option to stop

Component block

Three to six sessions aimed at one assessment component, then it ends. Per hour it costs more than a committed slot. Per mark it is usually the best value purchase available to a Dubai Diploma family, because the diagnosis is already done and the target is specific.

  • Scoped to one paper, one criterion or one skill
  • Best bought immediately after a mock
  • No open-ended commitment and nothing to cancel
  • Typical targets: Paper 3 technique, exploration design, Paper 1 stems

Exam-term intensive

A short, high-frequency run in the weeks before the exam window. The most expensive shape per hour, because availability is scarce between February and April and every specialist in the market is already booked. Families who plan for it in November pay less than families who discover the need in March.

  • Priced highest, because supply is tightest in exam term
  • Book the slot in the autumn to pay autumn rates
  • Paper drill and timing, not content rebuilding
  • Availability genuinely runs out; a waiting position is dated

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What an IB home tutor in Dubai costs, in dirhams

Published market rates for Diploma tutoring in Dubai run from roughly AED 45 an hour to AED 650 an hour. A tutor travelling to a Dubai address is quoted from about AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, and a qualified subject teacher working online is quoted from about AED 150 to AED 300. Those are the bands, attributed below to the providers and the cost survey that published them.

The table that follows is not an IB Gram price list and should not be read as one. It is a map of what other people in this market charge, with sources named, so that a quote arriving in your inbox can be placed somewhere on it. A quote of AED 120 an hour for Higher Level Physics tells you something. So does a quote of AED 600 for an SL Biology catch-up.

Two patterns are worth noticing before the numbers. The first is that the in-home band overlaps heavily with the specialist band, which means a family paying AED 350 an hour may be buying either a specialist or a driver, and the quote alone will not tell them which. The second is that the top of the online band and the bottom of the in-home band are the same money, which is the whole decision in one line.

What IB Gram charges is settled after the free trial lesson, in a consultation that depends on the subject, the level, the frequency and the term. Publishing a single figure here would be dishonest, because a weekly SL Biology slot and an exam-term Higher Level Physics intensive are not the same product. What can be published honestly is the market, and it is below.

What the travel actually costs, line by line

The difference between an online quote and an in-home quote is not profit. It is time, and the time is real. A tutor crossing Dubai from Mirdif to the Marina at 4.30pm is absorbing something close to ninety minutes of round-trip driving for a sixty-minute lesson. Nobody can sustain that at the online rate, so either the hourly figure rises or the minimum block does, and usually both.

That is why in-home quotes in this market arrive with conditions attached. A two-hour minimum is standard for the outer communities. A travel surcharge or a zone-based rate is common. Cancellation terms are tighter, because a tutor who has already driven to Jumeirah Golf Estates cannot resell the slot. Parking at a Downtown tower costs the tutor money. None of this is unreasonable, and all of it is paid by the family.

Then there is the invisible cost, which is the one worth the most. A tutor pool limited to people who can reach your community in the window you want is a small pool, and it is selected for geography rather than for subject expertise. A family in Dubai South choosing from locally available tutors for Higher Level Chemistry is choosing from very few people, and may end up with a generalist at a specialist price.

Monthly packages in this market make the same arithmetic visible. Online packages have been advertised at AED 799 a month for eight sessions. In-home packages have been advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour sessions. Both deliver eight hours. The difference is roughly double, and the second one includes a car.

The nine things that move the number in Dubai specifically

  • Subject and level: Higher Level sciences and maths are the scarcest
  • Proximity to the exam window: March costs more than October
  • Session length and committed block versus ad hoc booking
  • Delivery format, which is mostly a travel-time question
  • Whether internal assessment supervision is inside the rate
  • Whether the quoted figure includes value added tax: ask directly

Ask two providers for a Higher Level Chemistry quote in the same week and the figures can differ by a factor of three. That is not a market failure; it is nine variables being bundled into one number and never itemised. Knowing which of them applies to you is how a parent judges whether AED 300 an hour is fair.

Subject and level do most of the work. Higher Level sciences and Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level are the scarcest teaching in this emirate, and scarcity sets the price. Timing does the next largest share: the same tutor is more expensive in March than in October, because every specialist in the market is booked before the May session and nobody is in February. A family that fixes its exam-term slot in November pays November rates.

Then come the structural variables. Session length changes the effective hourly figure, since ninety minutes rarely costs 1.5 times sixty. Commitment changes it, because a tutor who can plan a term discounts against a tutor filling gaps. Delivery format changes it, by the travel arithmetic above. The pupil's starting point changes it, because rebuilding two years of missing foundations is different work from correcting exam technique.

The last three are the ones families forget to ask about. Whether internal assessment supervision is included or billed separately. Whether written session notes and a progress summary are part of the service or an extra. And whether the quote is inclusive of value added tax, which is a question to put directly to any provider rather than to assume, since the treatment of tuition fees is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority and not for a tutoring website.

04

Monthly packages, and how to read one

Packages are how most of this market actually sells, and they are where the hourly comparison gets lost. A monthly figure with a session count attached is easy to agree to and hard to compare. The only way to read one is to divide it back into an effective hourly rate and then check what is inside the hour.

Published examples make the method clear. An online package advertised at AED 799 for eight sessions a month works out near AED 100 an hour if the sessions are sixty minutes. An in-home package at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour sessions works out between AED 200 and AED 225 an hour for the same eight hours of teaching. A cost survey for this market puts monthly spend for a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to AED 600 for budget tutors, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or above for specialist exam-year support.

The second check is what the session count assumes. Eight sessions a month assumes a month with four usable weeks, which Dubai's calendar does not always supply. Half-term, Eid holidays, school trips and the exam weeks themselves all remove sessions, and a package that does not carry unused sessions forward quietly becomes more expensive than its headline.

The third check is the exit. A month is a short commitment and a term is not, and the discount offered for a term is often smaller than the risk of being locked to a tutor who turns out to be the wrong match. For a first booking, the shorter and more cancellable arrangement is worth paying a little more for.

In-home against live online, with the numbers in front of you

This is the comparison the page has been building towards, and it is worth making on the merits rather than by assertion. IB Gram does not offer in-home visits in the UAE, so the table below is not a sales device dressed as a comparison; it is the reason for the model.

On cost, the in-home band starts roughly where the online specialist band tops out. On tutor pool, in-home is restricted to whoever can reach your community in your window, and online is not. On scheduling, in-home sessions are hostage to Dubai's after-school traffic, which is why two-hour blocks exist. On record-keeping, a live video session with a shared whiteboard leaves every annotated paper and worked solution behind as a reviewable file, which a visit to a kitchen table does not.

There are real things on the other side of the ledger, and pretending otherwise would be insulting. A tutor in the room can see a pupil's body language in a way a camera flattens. For younger children, physical presence helps with attention in a way nothing online fully replaces. For a pupil with specific access needs, in-person support can be the right answer, and a family in that position should pay the premium for it without apology.

For a Diploma candidate in Dubai, though, the balance usually lands the other way, because the binding constraint is finding someone who has taught Higher Level Chemistry recently rather than finding someone who can park. A Marina family gets a specialist in the exact subject instead of the best available person within a twenty-minute drive, and keeps the forty-five minutes the tutor would have spent in traffic.

The permit, and why it belongs in a price conversation

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and it is cheaper than most parents assume. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website or e-services system.

Eligibility is broad. Teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school pupils aged 15 to 18 and university students may all apply. That breadth is why the budget end of this market exists at all: a university student tutoring legally at AED 60 an hour is not operating in a grey area, provided they hold the permit.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from the ministry are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, and press reporting has stated explicitly that the ministry did not specify the amounts, so no figure appears on this page. Any provider quoting you a specific fine is repeating something unverified.

This matters to price in two ways. A permitted tutor has no regulatory risk to price in, which is one reason legitimate rates are not higher than they are. And there is a separate rule families should know: Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of pupils enrolled at their own school, and the permit carries its own code of conduct on the same point. Nobody should be selling you your child's own class teacher.

Tutoring cost in context: fees, the freeze and a two-year plan

A tutoring figure means little without the budget it sits inside. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools in 2024-25, across 17 different curricula. In May 2026 the Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion.

For a Diploma family that freeze is the first predictable year in a while, and it changes the planning question. The money that would have absorbed a fee rise is the money most families then spend on tutoring, often without deciding what it is for. The useful discipline is to price the whole two-year Diploma plan once, in advance, rather than approving monthly packages as panic arrives.

A two-year plan priced honestly has three components and two of them are small. One weekly subject slot sustained across DP1 and DP2 is the large number. Internal assessment support, concentrated in two or three blocks when the school deadlines fall, is a moderate number. An exam-term intensive before the May session is a short, expensive burst. Families who plan all three in September spend less than families who buy each one in a crisis.

The last line of the table below is the one nobody mentions. A private candidate sitting exams outside a school pays entry fees directly to the board, and those are set by the board and its local centre, not by a tutor. If that applies to your child, get the figure from the exam centre in writing before building any budget around it.

If the budget is fixed, where the dirhams actually earn marks

  • Buy the diagnosis before you buy the hours
  • Spend on the internal assessment question, not the final draft
  • One mechanical fix per subject beats general revision
  • A weekly slot is for real content gaps, not for reassurance
  • Book exam-term availability in the autumn, at autumn rates

Most families do not have an unlimited tutoring budget, and the honest question is not what the cheapest hour costs but which hour buys the most marks. Four years of watching Diploma candidates in this region produces a consistent order, and it is not the order most families buy in.

First purchase: one diagnostic session per weak subject, worked from the most recent marked paper. This is the cheapest high-value hour available, because it tells you whether you need a tutor at all and if so what for. A surprising number of diagnoses conclude that the pupil understands the content and is losing marks to command terms or timing, which is three sessions of work rather than a term.

Second purchase: internal assessment question design, in DP1, before the school approves the topic. A research question too broad to control caps the mark on a component worth a fifth of the subject grade, and no amount of later polishing recovers it. Two sessions spent narrowing a question are worth more than ten spent on a draft.

Third purchase: the single most mechanical technique fix in each subject. Paper 1 stem annotation in the sciences. Calculator-free fluency in Analysis and Approaches. A comparative spine in English Paper 2. Diagram labelling and referencing in Economics. These are rule-bound, drillable and visible in the next marked paper. The committed weekly slot, which is where most families start, belongs fourth, and only where a genuine content gap exists.

Where we tutor

What the number looks like across Dubai

Travel is a real cost in an in-home quote, and it is priced by where you live. These notes describe what a tutor crossing the emirate to a given community is actually absorbing, and what that does to the hour you pay for.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Dense, parking-constrained and expensive to reach by car at the end of the working day. In-home quotes here carry the full travel premium, and a tutor who arrives at 5pm has usually spent 45 unpaid minutes getting there from Deira or Mirdif.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills Estate

Villa communities where two-hour minimum blocks are the norm, because no tutor will drive that far for sixty minutes. The practical effect is that a family pays for two hours whether the pupil needs two hours or not.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Better served by locally resident tutors, so travel premiums are smaller and budget-band quotes are more realistic. Diploma specialists are correspondingly scarcer, because the local pool skews toward other curricula.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Central and reachable, which keeps travel costs moderate, but demand for evening slots is heavy. Quotes rise for the 5pm to 7pm window because that is the only time most families want, and supply there is finite.

Al Qusais and Deira

Lower in-home quotes than the newer communities, reflecting a larger resident tutor pool rather than a different standard of teaching. Diploma Higher Level supply is the constraint here, not price.

Dubai South and Jumeirah Golf Estates

The longest drives in the emirate for most tutors, and the point where travel stops being a premium and becomes a refusal. Families in these communities are the ones for whom online delivery is not a compromise but the only reliable option.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

Short drives, difficult building access and visitor parking that costs the tutor money. In-home quotes here often fold a parking and access allowance into the hourly figure without naming it.

Al Barsha and Tecom

Central to the emirate's IB provision and reasonably easy to reach, so this is where budget-band in-home quotes are most likely to be genuine rather than a loss-leader a tutor later renegotiates.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Established Diploma schools

Families from these cohorts tend to buy narrow, expensive help: Paper 3 technique, exploration design, a component clinic. The school teaches the content competently, so what is being bought is the thing class size cannot supply.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Deira International School
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches

Newer and growing Diploma cohorts

Smaller cohorts restrict Higher Level option blocks, so these families more often buy a full subject that the school could not timetable. That is the most expensive kind of tutoring to source locally and the clearest case for an online match.

  • Fairgreen International School
  • Hartland International School
  • Bloom World Academy
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Sunmarke School
  • Uptown International School

Schools are named to describe the Dubai Diploma provision families choose between; no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any named school is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say the subject, the level and the budget

Including the budget, which most families withhold and should not. A figure lets us tell you honestly whether a specialist in that subject and level is reachable at that number, or whether a shorter component block is the better use of it. Guessing wastes a fortnight of email.

  2. 02

    Send one marked paper

The paper with the annotations on it, not the report grade. It shows whether marks are going to content gaps, command terms, conventions or timing. Those four faults cost different amounts to fix, and the paper tells us which one you are buying help with.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

A full session with the proposed specialist, no cost and no card required. It is run as a diagnosis, so by the end you have a written statement of the fault and the first four weeks of work. If the conclusion is that no tutoring is needed this term, you will be told that.

  4. 04

    Get the quote itemised

Session length, frequency, whether internal assessment support is inside the figure, whether written session notes are included, what the cancellation terms are, and whether value added tax applies. Any provider unwilling to itemise those six things is worth walking away from.

  5. 05

Review at four weeks against marked work

Measured against the next piece of marked school work, not against how the sessions felt. The review names what moved, what did not, and whether to continue, change the match or stop. An arrangement with no scheduled exit is a subscription, not a plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The numbers are on the page

Every dirham figure here is attributed to the provider page or cost survey that published it. Three of the six pages ranking for this search publish no price at all and one declines to answer its own question about cost. A parent can only judge a quote against a market they can see.

No travel in the rate

Delivery is one-to-one over live video, so nobody is charging you for ninety minutes of driving or imposing a two-hour minimum to make the trip worthwhile. The hour you buy is the hour the pupil uses, and sixty minutes is a normal booking rather than an awkward one.

Matched on subject, not on driving distance

The scarce thing in Dubai is a teacher with current experience of a specific Higher Level subject, not a car. Matching from a national online pool means a family in Dubai South chooses from the same specialists as a family in Al Barsha.

The permit position stated plainly

The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. No fine schedule is published, so no fine figure appears here. Anyone quoting you an amount is repeating something that has not been verified.

Assessed work stays the pupil's own

A tutor teaches the criteria, questions a research question and gives feedback on a draft the candidate wrote. No part of a submission is produced for a candidate at any price. One provider in this market advertises finished internal assessments; that is a risk sold to your child.

An exit built into the arrangement

Four-week reviews against marked school work, with an explicit option to change the match or stop. No grade is promised, because no honest tutor can promise one, and a provider that does is pricing a promise they cannot keep.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IB home tutor in Dubai charge per hour?+

Published rates for a tutor travelling to a Dubai address run from roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with a cost survey for this market placing the common band at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to AED 500. Higher Level sciences and Higher Level mathematics sit at the top of that range, and outer communities attract a two-hour minimum rather than a higher hourly figure. Online one-to-one teaching with a qualified subject tutor is published at AED 150 to AED 300, and with a Diploma specialist at AED 200 to AED 450 or above.

Why is the in-home rate so much higher than the online rate?+

Travel time, almost entirely. A tutor crossing Dubai in the after-school window absorbs sixty to ninety minutes of unpaid driving for a single sixty-minute lesson, plus fuel, Salik crossings and visitor parking. That is why in-home quotes arrive with two-hour minimums for villa communities and tighter cancellation terms. The teaching itself is not more expensive. The published online packages in this market work out near AED 100 an hour where in-home packages for the same eight hours work out at AED 200 to AED 225, and the difference is a car.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to a Dubai address?+

No. IB Gram does not offer in-home visiting anywhere in the UAE; that is a service provided only in India. Teaching for Dubai families is one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. The practical consequence is a wider choice of specialists rather than a narrower one, because the match is made on the exact subject and level rather than on who can reach your community before 6pm. It also removes the travel component from the price, so a sixty-minute booking is normal rather than uneconomic.

What makes one Diploma subject cost more to tutor than another?+

Supply, not difficulty. Higher Level Chemistry, Higher Level Physics and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level are the scarcest teaching in this emirate, because Dubai Diploma cohorts are often small enough that one teacher covers both levels. Scarcity sets the price. English A and Biology are easier to source and quote lower, despite Biology carrying more content than almost anything else. Minority subjects such as Computer Science at Higher Level or Global Politics can be unobtainable locally at any rate, which is a supply problem rather than a pricing one.

Do tutoring rates in Dubai rise closer to the exam session?+

Yes, and predictably. Specialist availability tightens from February through April, before the May session that Dubai private schools sit, and the same tutor who had open slots in October has none in March. Families who fix an exam-term slot in the autumn pay autumn rates for it; families who start looking in March are bidding for what is left. If an exam-term intensive is part of your plan, book the slot early and treat the booking as the purchase, separate from when the sessions happen.

Is the quoted rate per hour or per session, and does it include VAT?+

Ask both questions explicitly, in writing, before agreeing anything. Some providers in this market quote per sixty-minute hour and others per session, which may be ninety minutes or two hours, and the two figures are not comparable. On tax, the treatment of tuition fees is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority rather than for a tutoring website, so the only safe question is whether the specific figure you have been quoted is inclusive of value added tax. A provider who will not answer that in writing is telling you something.

How much should a Dubai family budget per month for IB tutoring?+

A cost survey for this market estimates monthly spend for a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to AED 600 with a budget tutor, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packages advertised in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four in-home sessions of two hours. Divide any package back into an hourly figure before comparing, and check whether unused sessions carry forward across Dubai's half-terms and holidays.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a licence, and does it cost them anything?+

A permit, and it is free. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, whose service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school pupils aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published.

Can I hire my child's own school teacher privately in Dubai?+

It is the arrangement to avoid. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to pupils enrolled at their own school, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving pupils affiliated with the tutor's own school. Beyond the rules, it is a poor arrangement on its own terms: the person who set the assessment is not the person best placed to show your child how an external examiner reads it. Verify the current policy with the school directly.

What should a Dubai parent ask before accepting a tutoring quote?+

Six things, all of which should be answered in writing. Whether the rate is per sixty-minute hour or per session. Whether there is a minimum block. Whether internal assessment support is inside the figure or billed separately. Whether written session notes and a progress summary are included. What the cancellation terms are, including for a session already prepared. And whether the figure includes value added tax. A provider who itemises all six is quoting a service; one who gives a single number is quoting a hope.

Is a cheaper tutor a false economy for Higher Level subjects?+

Frequently, though not always. At the budget end of this market, AED 45 to AED 150 an hour commonly buys a university student or a generalist, which is genuinely good value for primary numeracy, for Middle Years content catch-up and for exam-paper drill under supervision. For a Higher Level science or Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level it usually buys someone one step ahead of the pupil, which produces reassurance rather than marks. The better economy is fewer hours with a specialist, aimed at one component, rather than more hours with a generalist.

Does a two-hour in-home block teach twice as much as one hour?+

Rarely, and this is the part of the in-home model families most often overpay for. Two-hour minimums exist because the travel arithmetic requires them, not because a sixteen-year-old concentrates well for two hours after a full school day plus transport. Diagnostic sessions and technique drills are most effective in focused blocks of forty-five to sixty minutes. Where longer sessions genuinely help is sustained drafting work on a piece of coursework, and that is a handful of occasions per subject per year, not a weekly pattern.

How does the Dubai school fee freeze affect what I spend on tutoring?+

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For a Diploma family that makes the year's education budget predictable, which is the right moment to price the whole two-year plan once rather than approving monthly packages as deadlines arrive. Families who plan the weekly slot, the internal assessment blocks and the exam-term intensive together in September reliably spend less than those who buy each in a crisis.

What happens to the price if no specialist is available in my child's subject?+

The price stops being the issue. Minority Higher Level subjects are thin in this market because small Dubai Diploma cohorts cannot timetable them either, so there may be nobody to buy at any rate locally. Because teaching is delivered over live video from a national specialist pool, the search is not limited to people who can drive to your community, which widens the field considerably. Where nobody is free even then, the options are a dated waiting position, a related-subject specialist for transferable technique, or a straight no for the term.

Can a tutor be paid to finish an internal assessment before the deadline?+

No, and any provider who offers it is selling your child a serious risk rather than a service. One operator in this market advertises completed Internal Assessments for a fee; under IB academic-honesty rules that is malpractice, and the consequences fall on the candidate, up to losing the Diploma. What a tutor may legitimately be paid for is teaching the published criteria, interrogating the research question, and giving feedback on a draft the candidate has written. The candidate writes every word of the submission that carries their name.

Get the quote itemised before you compare it

If you are pricing an IB home tutor in Dubai, the market bands on this page are enough to judge any quote you receive. The next step costs nothing: send the subject, the level, the target grade and one recent marked paper, and you will get an honest answer about whether a specialist is reachable, how long a match takes, and what shape of booking that particular fault needs. The trial lesson that follows is a full diagnostic session over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no card required. If the diagnosis is three sessions rather than a term, we will say three sessions.
