IB Home Tutor in Dubai South

Parents searching for an IB home tutor in Dubai South usually want one thing: somebody who knows the actual syllabus their child is sitting, not a generalist with a textbook. IB Gram matches Dubai South students with subject specialists and teaches them one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. No tutor travels to a Dubai South address — the subject depth is the trade, and this page sets out exactly what that depth looks like paper by paper.

  • Specialist matched by subject and level, not by postcode
  • Live one-to-one video lessons on Gulf Standard Time
  • Free trial lesson before any commitment is made
  • Tutors teach and review work; they never write it

IB & IGCSE in Dubai South

What an IB home tutor in Dubai South is really being asked to do

The phrase an IB home tutor in Dubai South is hired to solve is almost never "my child needs more hours". It is "my child is working hard and the marks are not moving". Those are different problems with different fixes. More hours on the same misunderstanding produces the same score with more fatigue. The fix is diagnostic: find out which command terms the student misreads, which papers they ration badly, which topics they have revised four times and still cannot start under timed conditions. That is a syllabus job, and it is the reason this page leads with syllabus content rather than with testimonials.

Dubai South sits at the southern end of the emirate, around Al Maktoum International and the Expo site, with Emaar South, Dubai Investments Park, Al Furjan, Jebel Ali and Green Community as its neighbours. It is a newer community than Jumeirah or Mirdif, which has a direct consequence for tutoring: the residential density that supports a deep local tutor market is still forming. A family in Dubai South who insists on a tutor physically present is choosing from whoever is willing to drive out along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road at 5pm. That is a geography filter, not a quality filter, and in the IB it is an expensive one, because the IB is not one subject. It is a Chemistry HL paper with a 35% Paper 2, a Maths AA internal assessment marked on five criteria, and a Theory of Knowledge essay with six prescribed titles.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run in India only. For Dubai South the delivery is live one-to-one video, screen shared both ways, with the student's own past-paper script on screen and the mark scheme beside it. This is stated plainly because the alternative — implying a car will arrive — would be false. What the online model buys a Dubai South family is the tutor pool: instead of the handful of teachers within a tolerable drive, the match is made from specialists who teach that subject at that level every week.

The rest of this page is built around the syllabus, because that is what separates an IB specialist from a tutor who is good at maths. You will find the Diploma assessment structure with component weightings, the topics where UAE students most reliably lose marks, the internal assessment criteria named by letter with their mark allocations, what the academic-honesty rules permit a tutor to do with an IA draft, and what the Dubai market actually charges in AED per hour with the source of each band stated. There is also the part most tutoring pages leave out: what happens when no specialist for a niche Higher Level subject is free in the week you ask.

One framing note before the detail. KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, is the body responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai. It inspects schools and publishes ratings. It does not accredit private tutors, and IB Gram holds no KHDA permit, approval or partnership — any tutoring page that implies otherwise is misrepresenting the regulator. Individual tutors in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and that is the credential a parent can actually ask to see.

At a glance

  • Dubai South, Emaar South, Al Furjan, Dubai Investments Park, Jebel Ali and Green Community are all covered by the same online delivery
  • Diploma, Middle Years and Primary Years all supported, with Diploma the heaviest demand from this cluster
  • Paper weightings, command terms and internal assessment criteria are the working material of every session
  • Session slots run from 15:30 to 21:30 Gulf Standard Time on weekdays, and mornings at weekends
  • A tutor reviews, questions and teaches a student's own IA; producing any part of it is malpractice
  • AED figures on this page are market bands from published sources, not an IB Gram price list
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dubai South and its neighbouring communities feed a mix of IB continuum schools and British-curriculum schools that run the Diploma in the sixth form. The three programmes below are the ones families in this cluster ask about, and each carries a note on what it means specifically here.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The Primary Years Programme is transdisciplinary: there is no subject timetable in the conventional sense, and learning is organised around six units of inquiry a year. Assessment is continuous and descriptive rather than graded, which is why parents moving in from a CBSE or American system often cannot tell whether their child is behind. The concrete skills that matter later are number fluency, reading stamina and the ability to structure a written explanation. Tutoring at this stage is short, frequent and built on those three.

PYP children in Dubai South also sit KHDA's mandatory subjects alongside the inquiry units. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are compulsory in every Dubai private school whatever curriculum it is licensed for, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. Families relocating into Emaar South or Al Furjan frequently discover this only at enrolment.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The Middle Years Programme marks each subject against four criteria, A to D, on a 0-8 scale, then converts the totals to a 1-7 grade. The criteria differ by subject group: in Sciences, criterion B is inquiring and designing and criterion D is reflecting on the impacts of science. Students who are strong at content and weak at process lose most of their marks in B and D, not in A. The Personal Project in the final year is separately assessed and is where most of the time pressure lands.

MYP in this part of Dubai is usually a feeder into the Diploma at the same school or at a British-curriculum sixth form nearby. The transition that catches students is MYP Mathematics to Diploma Mathematics: the MYP criterion-based marking rewards communication and reflection, while Diploma Paper 1 rewards accuracy under time with no calculator. Eight weeks of timed drill before Year 12 closes most of that gap.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The Diploma is six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an internal assessment worth between 20% and 25% of the final grade, marked by the teacher and moderated externally. The externally assessed papers carry the rest. The arithmetic matters: a student who is good in class and poor in examinations is losing three quarters of the available marks in each subject, and no amount of classroom participation recovers them.

Dubai South Diploma students sit the May session, which is the session UAE schools use. The internal deadlines that actually govern a Year 13 autumn are set by the school's IB coordinator, not by the IB, and they land months before the examinations. A Dubai South family planning tuition around examinations alone will miss the IA and Extended Essay deadlines entirely, which is why the planning conversation starts with the coordinator's calendar.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme combines two or more Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. It is offered by a small number of UAE schools and is a genuine route for a student who wants Diploma-standard academics in two subjects alongside a vocational specialism. Tutoring demand on CP is almost entirely in the Diploma courses taken within it and in the reflective project's writing structure.

CP is rare in the Dubai South cluster, so a family whose child is on it is often the only one in their circle. That isolation has a practical cost: parents have nobody to compare notes with about what the reflective project should look like. A specialist who has supervised the component elsewhere is the straightforward fix, and online delivery is the only way to reach one from Dubai South.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects most requested by families in Dubai South, Emaar South and Dubai Investments Park. Each description names what the subject actually assesses and where the marks leak, rather than restating the course title.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which is where most of the damage is done. Students who have learned the course through a graphical display calculator cannot sketch a derivative or manipulate a logarithm by hand. Higher Level adds proof by induction, complex numbers and vectors. The exploration is marked on five criteria including personal engagement and reflection, which are process marks, not mathematics marks.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-permitted throughout, with statistics, modelling and financial mathematics carrying the weight. The trap is the opposite of Analysis and Approaches: students assume the calculator does the thinking and then lose marks for not stating a hypothesis, not justifying a model choice, or not interpreting a correlation coefficient in context. Higher Level brings in graph theory and matrices.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1 is multiple choice with no mark for method, so a single unit slip costs the whole question. Paper 2 is extended response where graph-drawing and uncertainty treatment carry marks students rarely practise. Higher Level adds fields, induction and quantum phenomena. The internal assessment needs a measurable independent variable and a defensible uncertainty analysis; most weak scripts fail on the second.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic chemistry and energetics produce the largest spread of marks. Mechanism questions require curly arrows drawn from the correct lone pair or bond, and examiners do not award a half-drawn mechanism. Higher Level adds entropy and spontaneity, equilibrium calculations and transition metal chemistry. The data booklet is permitted and most students have never learned where anything in it is.

Biology

HL and SL

The volume of recall is the problem, not the difficulty of any single idea. Marks are lost on command terms: outline, explain, distinguish and suggest demand different lengths and different structures, and writing an explain answer where outline was asked wastes time without gaining marks. Higher Level adds plant biology, genetics depth and physiology detail that reward structured note-making over rereading.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams are marked. A correctly labelled diagram with axes, curves and a shifted equilibrium earns marks that prose cannot. Higher Level adds quantitative questions and a theory-of-the-firm style depth. The internal assessment is three commentaries on news articles, each 800 words, each applying one unit of the syllabus; students lose marks by summarising the article instead of applying the theory.

Business Management

HL and SL

Higher Level sits a pre-released case study for Paper 2, which rewards months of structured preparation rather than last-minute revision. Tools such as Ansoff, force field analysis and investment appraisal must be applied to the specific firm, not described. The internal assessment at Higher Level is a 1,800-word research project based on primary research into a real organisation.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen textual analysis of a non-literary passage under time, and the guided question is the single biggest source of lost marks because students ignore it and write a general appreciation. The individual oral is a ten-minute presentation plus five minutes of questions, linking a global issue to one literary and one non-literary text. Higher Level adds the 1,200-1,500 word essay.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Pseudocode in the examination follows the IB's own notation, not Python, and students who have only coded in one language lose marks on syntax they never practised. Higher Level adds resource management, object-oriented programming and a case study. The internal assessment is a solution developed for a real client with a documented design, which means the client conversation has to actually happen.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Assessed by a 1,600-word essay on one of six prescribed titles and an exhibition of three objects with commentaries. The essay fails when students write about the topic rather than about the knowledge question in the title. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together contribute up to three bonus points, and students who treat them as optional regularly finish three points short of their offer.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research essay in one Diploma subject, marked on five criteria with the research question and the critical thinking criterion carrying the most weight. The commonest failure is a question too broad to answer in 4,000 words. A supervisor may discuss and give feedback on one complete draft; writing any part of the essay is malpractice under IB rules.

Arabic B

HL and SL

Taken by many non-Arab students in Dubai schools because Arabic is mandatory under KHDA rules, and frequently the subject that drags a Diploma point total down. Assessment is productive and receptive: a written task, listening and reading comprehension, and an individual oral based on a visual stimulus. The oral is the recoverable component, because it rewards drilled structures rather than broad vocabulary.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families in Dubai South use one-to-one online tuition. All three are delivered over live video with a specialist; none involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Weekly subject tuition

One or two sessions a week in a single subject, running across a term. This is the format that moves a grade, because it creates a cycle: diagnose in the session, practise between sessions, mark the practice at the start of the next one. Most Dubai South Diploma families start with one subject and add a second only once the first is stable.

  • 60 or 90 minutes, same slot each week
  • Past-paper questions set between sessions and marked in the next
  • Written note after each session naming what was covered and what is next
  • Same tutor throughout the term unless you ask for a change

Internal assessment and Extended Essay supervision

Structured support across the months an internal assessment or Extended Essay actually takes. The tutor works on the student's research question, method, data handling and argument structure, and gives feedback on the student's own writing. Nobody drafts, rewrites or produces content for the student, because under IB academic-honesty rules that is malpractice.

  • Research question narrowed until it is answerable in the word limit
  • Criteria named by letter with their mark allocations explained
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never a rewrite
  • Internal school deadlines mapped backwards from the coordinator's calendar

Examination-window intensives

Compressed blocks of sessions in the weeks before papers, built entirely around timed questions under examination conditions. Content teaching stops; the work is question selection, timing, mark-scheme language and the specific topics the student's own past scripts show as weak. Used by Dubai South families in the spring term and over the winter break.

  • Two or three sessions a week for four to six weeks
  • Every session built on a timed paper or section
  • Marked against the official mark scheme, with the wording compared line by line
  • A written topic-by-topic record of what is still costing marks

Transition support between programmes

Short blocks for students moving between systems: Middle Years to Diploma, IGCSE to Diploma, or an incoming CBSE or American student joining a Dubai South IB school mid-year. The work is gap mapping — identifying what the new course assumes the student already knows and closing those specific gaps before term starts.

  • A written list of assumed prior knowledge per subject
  • Four to eight sessions, usually across a school holiday
  • Focus on notation, command terms and assessment format, not content volume
  • A handover note the student can show their new teacher

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai South

01

Diploma assessment structure: where the marks actually sit

  • Internal assessment is the component a student controls with time rather than luck
  • Paper weightings differ between Standard and Higher Level in the same subject
  • Moderation can move a cohort's internal marks up or down, so the school's mark is not final
  • A session plan should name the component it is targeting, not just the subject

Every Diploma subject splits its marks between externally assessed papers and one internally assessed component marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB. The internal assessment is worth between 20% and 25% depending on the subject and level. That single fact reorganises a tutoring plan, because the internal assessment is the only component a student can improve months in advance with certainty, while the papers depend on performance on one morning.

The table below sets out the pattern across the subjects most requested from Dubai South. Read it as a planning document rather than a reference: a Chemistry HL student with a strong internal assessment and a weak Paper 2 is losing marks in the component that carries 36% of the grade, and no amount of further laboratory polishing recovers that. Conversely a Maths AA student who has not started the exploration by the spring of Year 12 is gambling 20% of the subject on a rushed piece of work.

The weightings also explain why a specialist matters more in the IB than in most systems. A tutor who knows that Physics Paper 1 carries no method marks will spend sessions on precision and unit discipline. A tutor who does not will spend them on explanation, which is what Paper 2 rewards. Both are reasonable-sounding lessons; only one matches the paper the student is about to sit.

One further consequence for Dubai South families specifically. Because the internal assessment is marked by the school teacher and then moderated by the IB, the mark a student sees on a returned draft is provisional. Moderation can move an entire cohort's internal marks up or down if the school has marked generously or harshly against the published criteria. That is a reason to aim a clear band above the target rather than at it, and a reason to read the criteria directly rather than relying on a classroom comment.

The internal assessment criteria, named by letter

  • Criterion letters and mark totals are published by the IB in each subject guide
  • Process criteria often decide the grade for students who are strong on content
  • One substantive draft is the permitted limit of Extended Essay feedback
  • A tutor's job is questions and feedback, never production of text

Almost no tutoring page in this market names a single internal assessment criterion, which is strange, because the criteria are published and they are how the mark is produced. A student who does not know that personal engagement is a separate criterion worth marks of its own will write a technically correct exploration and score in the middle band. A student who does know will spend two paragraphs establishing why they chose the question, and gain marks that have nothing to do with their mathematics.

The table gives the criteria and mark allocations for the components Dubai South students most often need help with. Use it to read a returned draft: if the teacher's comment is vague, the criteria tell you precisely which band the piece sits in and what the next band up requires. This is also the honest limit of what a tutor does here. The tutor explains the criterion, asks the questions that expose a weak section, and gives feedback on the student's own draft. The tutor does not write, redraft or supply content.

Two practical notes for families in this cluster. First, internal deadlines are set by the school's IB coordinator and are typically far earlier than students expect, often in the autumn of Year 13 for work examined the following May. Second, a draft that has been through one round of substantive feedback is the maximum the IB permits for the Extended Essay; further rounds are not allowed, so the single draft has to be used well.

Where Dubai South students lose marks, topic by topic

  • Non-calculator algebra is the top single loss in Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches
  • Units and uncertainty treatment cost more Physics marks than any topic does
  • Rounding early in a Chemistry calculation chain loses the whole question
  • Ignoring the guided question is the standard English A Paper 1 error
  • Unlabelled diagrams score nothing in Economics regardless of the prose around them

Losing marks is diagnosable. Across the Diploma subjects this cluster asks about most, the same specific failures recur, and they are failures of technique rather than of intelligence. In Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches the single largest is non-calculator algebra: students who learned the course on a graphical display calculator cannot differentiate a quotient by hand or solve a logarithmic equation without one, and Paper 1 forbids the calculator entirely.

In Physics the recurring losses are units, uncertainties and graph work. Paper 1 awards nothing for method, so a correct calculation with a wrong power of ten scores zero. Paper 2 awards marks for drawing a line of best fit with a sensible gradient triangle, and for stating an uncertainty with the right number of significant figures, and most students have practised neither. In Chemistry the losses concentrate in organic mechanisms and in multi-step calculations where an early rounding error propagates through to a wrong final answer that was worth most of the question.

In the essay subjects the pattern changes. English A Paper 1 scripts lose marks because students write an appreciation of the passage instead of answering the guided question printed above it. Economics scripts lose marks because the diagram is unlabelled or the axes are wrong, and a diagram that cannot be read earns nothing. Biology scripts lose marks on command terms: an outline answer written as an essay burns ten minutes and gains no extra credit. Each of these is correctable in a handful of sessions once it has been named, which is the entire argument for diagnostic tutoring over additional general teaching.

What IB tuition costs in Dubai, in AED

  • Market rates, published by the providers named, not an IB Gram price list
  • Monthly estimates assume one 60-minute session a week across a month
  • In-home bands include the travel the tutor is pricing into the hour
  • Ask any provider whether a quoted rate includes VAT before committing

Start with the monthly figure, because that is the number a household budget actually contains. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts a weekly one-hour session at roughly AED 240-600 a month for budget provision, AED 600-1,200 for mid-market, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support. Published monthly packages in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those are the brackets a Dubai South family is choosing between.

The hourly bands behind those monthly figures are set out below with the provider that publishes each one. EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33-52, both at the budget end and both online. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270. BartyED quotes AED 650 for premium named tutors. In-home one-to-one visits in Dubai run AED 180-350 on Bestimate's table, with independent home tutors quoted at AED 200-500 once travel is priced in.

Three of the six most visible competitors in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not a currency a Dubai household transacts in. The table is published here so a parent can see the market, not because these are IB Gram's rates. IB Gram's own commercial conversation starts with a free trial lesson and a consultation, and the figures below should be read as what the Dubai market charges, with the source of each named.

Online against in-home tuition for a Dubai South household

The honest comparison is not cost against cost. It is what each format can actually deliver to an address in Dubai South. An in-home tutor is drawn from whoever will drive to Dubai South for a 17:00 session, which in practice means a radius around the southern corridor and the Investments Park cluster. An online specialist is drawn from everyone who teaches that subject at that level, wherever they are. For a Standard Level subject the two pools overlap enough that either works. For Chemistry Higher Level, Computer Science or Arabic B they do not.

Travel is the hidden cost. A tutor driving from Jumeirah to Dubai South at 16:30 is committing ninety minutes of unpaid time around a sixty-minute lesson, and that time is priced into the hourly rate — which is why Bestimate's in-home band starts at AED 180 while its online band starts far lower. It also constrains scheduling: a tutor who can fit two online sessions back to back in an evening can fit one in-home session, so the slots available to you are fewer and less flexible.

What in-home genuinely buys is physical presence with a younger child who will not sit still for a screen, and the ability for a parent to observe without being in the room. Those are real advantages and they matter most in primary years. For Diploma work the balance tips the other way: the material is a past-paper script and a mark scheme, both of which are more legible shared on screen than passed across a table. IB Gram delivers to Dubai South online, one-to-one, and does not send tutors to UAE addresses — the table sets out what that means in practice.

Academic honesty: what a tutor may and may not do

  • Teaching content, explaining criteria and feedback on the student's draft are all permitted
  • Writing, rewriting or editing to completion is malpractice, whoever does it
  • The Extended Essay permits one round of substantive feedback on one draft
  • Consequences of a malpractice finding fall on the student's Diploma
  • Any provider offering a finished IA should be refused on that basis alone

This section exists because one page ranking in this market sells completed Internal Assessments. Buying one is malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student, not the seller: a finding of malpractice can mean no grade awarded in that subject and, in serious cases, no Diploma. A parent paying for help needs to know where the line sits, and any provider unwilling to state it is the wrong provider.

What a tutor may do is substantial. A tutor may teach the subject content the assessment rests on. A tutor may discuss a proposed research question and push back on one that cannot be answered in the word limit. A tutor may explain each criterion and what distinguishes one band from the next. A tutor may read a complete draft the student has written and give feedback on it — for the Extended Essay, the IB permits one round of substantive feedback on one draft. A tutor may teach referencing conventions, data presentation and the structure of an argument.

What a tutor may not do is produce the work. Not writing a paragraph, not rewriting a section into better English, not supplying a dataset, not editing a draft to completion, not choosing the research question on the student's behalf. The practical test is simple: if a sentence in the submitted document was composed by anyone other than the student, the document is no longer the student's own work. IB Gram tutors teach, question and give feedback, and that boundary is explained to the student at the first session rather than discovered at the end.

KHDA, the regulator and what a Dubai South parent can verify

KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, and it inspects private schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak. Those ratings are published on KHDA's own site and are the single most useful public document about a school a Dubai South family is considering. KHDA also sets the mandatory-subject requirements: Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in every Dubai private school regardless of the curriculum it is licensed to teach.

What KHDA does not do is accredit private tutors. There is no such thing as a KHDA-approved tutor, and a provider claiming the status is either confusing it with the Educational Services Permit issued to training institutes with physical premises, or inventing it. IB Gram holds no KHDA permit, approval, licence or partnership, and does not operate a centre in the UAE. The credential that does exist for an individual tutor is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, and open to registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted at you.

Across the wider UAE the regulator changes with the emirate: ADEK in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, SPEA in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, and the federal Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The table below is the full map, which matters more than it sounds for a Dubai South family, because households in this corner of the emirate sometimes have a child at a school across the Abu Dhabi border and are then dealing with two regulators at once.

Tutor availability from Dubai South, and what happens when nobody is free

Every tutoring page in this market implies infinite availability. None discloses a limit. The truth is that availability varies sharply by subject and level, and a parent planning a Year 13 autumn deserves to know which requests are matched within days and which take longer. Diploma Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English A are the deep end of the pool and a match is usually quick. Computer Science Higher Level, Arabic B, Theory of Knowledge and the less common Group 3 subjects are thinner, and a request in those can wait.

The honest version of what happens when no specialist is free: we say so. The alternative — putting a general science tutor in front of a Chemistry Higher Level student — is worse than waiting a week, because it costs the family money and the student confidence while teaching nothing they could not have read in the textbook. If the wait is unacceptable, we will say what we can do instead, which is usually a shorter block with a different specialist on the component that is most urgent.

The table sets out typical availability for the subjects this cluster requests. It is a coverage statement, not a promise about a particular week. One structural point behind it: because delivery is online rather than in-home, availability is not limited by who lives near Dubai South. That is the single largest practical benefit of the model, and it is why a Higher Level request from Emaar South is no harder to fill than the same request from Jumeirah.

Ramadan, the UAE school calendar and when work actually gets done

  • Sessions move after iftar and shorten during Ramadan
  • Timed practice costs less concentration per mark than new content
  • Winter and spring breaks are the natural slot for intensive blocks
  • Internal assessment drafting needs long stretches, not weekly hours
  • One session a week sustained beats two abandoned in February

A tutoring plan written without the UAE calendar in it fails in predictable places. The academic year runs from late August or early September to the start of July, with a long winter break in December, a spring break, and a shortened school day during Ramadan. For Diploma students the spring term is when examinations arrive, and it is also the term most likely to contain Ramadan, which changes both the school timetable and the hours in which a teenager can concentrate.

The practical adjustments are straightforward once they are planned rather than improvised. During Ramadan, sessions move later in the evening, after iftar, and shorten from ninety minutes to sixty. Content teaching gives way to timed question practice, which is less cognitively expensive per mark gained. Families who want to keep momentum without adding fatigue typically drop from two sessions a week to one, and use the winter and spring breaks for the intensive blocks instead.

The breaks are the underused resource in this cluster. A Dubai South student with a weak Paper 1 technique has more usable hours in the two weeks of the winter break than in the six weeks either side of it, because the school's own workload drops to nothing. Internal assessment drafting is the other work that fits a break well, since it needs long uninterrupted stretches rather than weekly slots. Planning the year this way — breaks for blocks, term for maintenance, Ramadan for timed practice — is the difference between a plan that survives contact with the calendar and one that quietly stops in March.

MoE equivalency: what a Dubai South IB student should know now

Equivalency is the Ministry of Education process that recognises a school-leaving certificate for use in the UAE, and families usually meet it for the first time at the point of a university application, which is far too late to do anything about the requirements. It is worth knowing the shape of it in Year 11 rather than Year 13, particularly in a cluster like this one where households move between curricula more often than average.

For the British track the published requirements are specific. A student must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade no lower than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade no lower than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among those five. That last detail matters: one competitor page in this market tells UAE parents that six IGCSE subjects are required, which is wrong, and a family planning around it may pay for a subject they did not need.

For the American track, English proficiency is shown by IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics by at least 450 in SAT Math. For the IB there is no points threshold published in the source material available here, and this page will not invent one — a figure on 2,654 pages that nobody verified is 2,654 liabilities. Check the IB requirement on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority directly. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency, and tutoring is not a requirement of the process.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Dubai South

Dubai South online tuition reaches the surrounding communities on the same terms, with the same tutor pool and the same evening slots. These are the neighbourhoods families on this page most often come from.

Dubai South

The district around Al Maktoum International and the Expo site, taking in Residential District, The Pulse and Expo Golf Villas. Families here are typically a short drive from Dubai Investments Park and Emaar South schools, and a long one from the Jumeirah and Al Barsha school belt.

Emaar South

A villa and townhouse community inside Dubai South, built around the golf course. Household composition skews towards primary and lower-secondary children, which makes Middle Years Programme and IGCSE demand higher here than Diploma demand, and makes early-evening slots the busiest.

Al Furjan

Immediately north on the Sheikh Zayed side, with its own school provision and a metro link at Al Furjan station. Secondary students here often travel to schools in Discovery Gardens or Dubai Investments Park, with afternoon arrivals home between 15:45 and 16:30.

Dubai Investments Park

The school cluster for this whole corner of Dubai, with British, IB continuum, Indian and SABIS provision in a tight radius. A Dubai South family's school run usually ends here, which sets the earliest realistic tuition slot at around 16:30 on a weekday.

Jebel Ali

The older residential and industrial zone to the west, with established British and Indian-curriculum schools. Students here are frequently IGCSE candidates in Years 10 and 11 who move into the Diploma or A Level afterwards, so transition tutoring is a recurring request.

Discovery Gardens

High-density apartment living with a younger, cost-conscious parent population and strong demand for shared-subject support. Evening slots after 18:00 dominate here because working parents prefer to be at home while a session runs.

Green Community

A low-rise community within Dubai Investments Park, close enough to the school cluster that students can be home by 15:45. That makes it one of the few neighbourhoods in this group where a 16:00 session is genuinely workable during term.

Dubai Production City

North-east of the cluster, mixing apartments and villas, with families who often drive children to schools in Motor City or Sports City. The longer school run pushes tuition towards 17:30 and later, and towards weekend mornings for double sessions.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai South

Dubai Investments Park and Green Community

The main school cluster serving Dubai South and Emaar South, and the one most students on this page attend. It carries IB continuum, British and SABIS provision within a few minutes of each other, which means a single community can contain Diploma, A Level and IGCSE candidates in the same street.

  • Greenfield International School
  • Nibras International School
  • Dove Green Private School
  • The International School of Choueifat Dubai Investments Park
  • Bright Learners Private School

Al Furjan, Jebel Ali and Discovery Gardens

The northern arc of the cluster, dominated by British-curriculum schools that run IGCSE at 16 before splitting into A Level or the Diploma. Families here commonly need IGCSE support in Years 10 and 11 and then Diploma support two years later, from the same household.

  • The Arbor School
  • Safa Community School
  • The Winchester School Jebel Ali
  • Delhi Private School Dubai
  • The Gardens School

Dubailand and the southern corridor

A short drive east, and the destination for Dubai South families who choose an IB continuum school over a nearer British one. The commute is the reason evening tuition in this group rarely starts before 17:00 during term time.

  • Fairgreen International School
  • South View School
  • Jebel Ali School
  • The Aquila School
  • GEMS Metropole School

Schools are named to describe the educational ecosystem around Dubai South; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the component

Not just the subject. Chemistry Higher Level with a weak Paper 2 and a finished investigation is a different brief from Chemistry Higher Level with strong papers and no investigation started. Naming the component means the first session is diagnostic rather than introductory, and it is the single most useful thing a Dubai South parent can send in the first message.

  2. 02

Send a recent script if you have one

A marked mock paper or a returned internal assessment draft tells a specialist more in five minutes than a long conversation does. Where marks were lost is visible on the page. If there is no script, the first session produces one by setting a short timed section and marking it against the official scheme.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the matched specialist

One full session, no charge and no card required, with the tutor who would teach the term. The output is a written note naming what was covered, what the diagnosis is, and what the first four sessions would address. If the match is wrong, say so and we match again rather than asking you to persist with it.

  4. 04

Fix a weekly slot around the school run

Dubai South and Emaar South school runs usually end between 15:45 and 16:30, so the earliest workable weekday slot is around 16:30 and the busiest run from 17:00 to 19:30. Weekend mornings suit double sessions and internal assessment work. The slot is held for the term unless you move it.

  5. 05

Work the cycle: diagnose, practise, mark, repeat

Each session ends with set work; the next session starts by marking it. That cycle is what moves a grade, because it converts the tutor's diagnosis into the student's own practice and then checks whether the practice landed. Without it, sessions become weekly explanations that feel productive and change nothing.

  6. 06

Review against the coordinator's calendar each half term

Every half term, compare what has been covered against the school's internal deadlines for the internal assessment, Extended Essay and mock papers. Those dates, not the examination dates, govern the autumn of Year 13. The review is where a plan gets re-pointed before a deadline arrives rather than after.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on subject and level, not on location

A Dubai South family hiring locally is choosing from tutors willing to drive south in the evening. Matching online removes the geography filter entirely, so a Physics Higher Level request from Emaar South is filled from the same pool as one from Jumeirah. For Standard Level subjects this matters little; for Higher Level and niche subjects it is the whole difference.

Sessions built on scripts and mark schemes

The working material is the student's own marked paper with the official mark scheme beside it, both shared on screen. That is a more legible arrangement than passing paper across a table, and it keeps sessions anchored to how marks are awarded rather than to how the topic is explained in the textbook.

The academic-honesty line is stated, not implied

Tutors teach content, explain criteria by letter and give feedback on the student's own draft. They do not write, rewrite or edit coursework to completion. The boundary is explained to the student in the first session, which protects the Diploma the family is paying to improve.

Availability is disclosed, including when it is thin

If no Computer Science Higher Level specialist is free this week, we say so and give a date. The alternative is placing a general tutor in a specialist seat, which costs money and confidence while teaching nothing. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit; this one does.

AED figures carry their source

Every rate on this page is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the band stated. Three of the most visible competitors in this market publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars. A parent should be able to check a number, which is the only reason to publish one.

No regulator claims, because there are none to make

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation or partnership, and operates no UAE office or centre. The regulators are named on this page to explain what they do, which is useful, rather than to borrow authority, which would be false.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai South: your questions answered

Can I get an IB home tutor in Dubai South who comes to the villa?+

Not through IB Gram. Home visits are a service we run in India only, and no tutor is sent to any UAE address. For Dubai South the delivery is live one-to-one video with a subject specialist, timed to Gulf Standard Time. Independent in-home tutors do operate in this part of Dubai, and Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180-350 an hour with independent tutors quoted up to AED 500 once travel is priced in. The trade is straightforward: you gain physical presence and lose access to specialists who do not live within driving distance of the southern corridor.

Which IB schools do Dubai South families usually attend?+

Most students on this page attend schools in the Dubai Investments Park and Green Community cluster, where IB continuum, British and SABIS provision sit within a few minutes of each other, or travel to the Dubailand corridor for an IB continuum school. Al Furjan and Jebel Ali supply the British-curriculum schools that run IGCSE at 16 before splitting into A Level or the Diploma. KHDA publishes inspection ratings for every one of them on its own site, which is the document worth reading before a conversation with an admissions office. IB Gram has no affiliation with any school named here.

How much of an IB subject grade comes from the internal assessment?+

Between 20% and 25% depending on the subject and level. In Mathematics the exploration is 20%; in the sciences the investigation is 20%; in Economics the three commentaries total 20%. That proportion is the part of the grade a student controls with time rather than with performance on one morning, which is why a tutoring plan should name the component it is targeting. It also means a student who has not started the internal assessment by the spring of Year 12 is gambling a fifth of each subject on work done under deadline pressure.

What does Paper 1 in IB Physics punish that Paper 2 does not?+

Paper 1 is multiple choice and awards nothing for method, so a correct chain of reasoning with a wrong power of ten scores zero. Paper 2 is extended response and does award method, which means partial credit is available for a well-structured answer that ends in the wrong number. The practical consequence for tutoring is that Paper 1 preparation is unit discipline, estimation and speed, while Paper 2 preparation is structure, graph work and uncertainty statements. Treating them as the same revision task is a common and expensive mistake.

Is a tutor allowed to help with my child's Extended Essay?+

Yes, within defined limits. A supervisor or tutor may discuss the research question, push back if it is too broad to answer in 4,000 words, explain the five assessment criteria and what separates one band from the next, and give feedback on one complete draft the student has written. The IB permits one round of substantive feedback on one draft. What is not permitted is writing, rewriting or editing any part of the essay to completion. If a sentence in the submitted document was composed by anyone other than the student, the essay is no longer the student's own work.

Are there KHDA-approved IB tutors in Dubai South?+

No, because KHDA does not accredit private tutors. KHDA oversees the quality of private education in Dubai, inspects schools and sets mandatory-subject requirements; it issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with physical premises, which is a different thing entirely. Any provider advertising KHDA-approved tutors is misdescribing the regulator. The credential that does exist for an individual is the MoHRE private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. That is the document a parent can reasonably ask a tutor to produce. IB Gram holds no KHDA approval or partnership.

My child is strong in class but drops marks in exams. What changes?+

The session content changes from explanation to timed production. A student who understands the material and underperforms on papers is usually losing marks to timing, command-term misreading, or presentation — writing an essay where outline was asked, skipping a diagram label, not stating an uncertainty. None of those is a knowledge gap and none of them improves with more teaching. The work is a diagnostic pass over the student's own marked scripts to name the specific losses, then repeated timed sections targeting them, marked against the official scheme with the wording compared line by line.

What time can a session realistically start on a Dubai South weekday?+

Around 16:30 for most families. School runs in this cluster usually end between 15:45 and 16:30, depending on whether the school is in Dubai Investments Park, Al Furjan or the Dubailand corridor. Green Community households sometimes manage 16:00 because the school is minutes away. The busiest slots run from 17:00 to 19:30, and the latest weekday start is 21:30 Gulf Standard Time. Weekend mornings suit double sessions and internal assessment work, which needs longer uninterrupted stretches than a weekday evening allows.

Which IB Maths route should a Dubai South student choose?+

Analysis and Approaches if the destination is engineering, physics, mathematics or most economics degrees; Applications and Interpretation if it is business, social sciences, design or medicine in many systems. The deciding factor is the university prerequisite rather than which course looks easier, because some programmes specify Analysis and Approaches by name. Check the requirement for the actual courses on the shortlist before Year 12 subject choices close. The practical difference in the classroom is that Analysis and Approaches has a non-calculator Paper 1 and heavier algebra, while Applications and Interpretation is calculator-permitted throughout with statistics and modelling carrying the weight.

How many sessions a week does an IB Diploma student need?+

One a week in one subject is the usual starting point, and it is enough if the cycle is working: diagnose in the session, practise between sessions, mark the practice at the start of the next. Two a week makes sense in an examination term or when an internal assessment deadline and a mock paper collide. More than two in one subject is rarely productive, because the limit is how much independent practice a student can complete between sessions, not how much teaching they can absorb. Adding a second subject before the first is stable usually slows both.

Do I need a private tutor for my child to get MoE equivalency?+

No. Equivalency is a Ministry of Education process that recognises a school-leaving certificate, and tutoring is not a requirement of it. For the British track the published rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. The IB requirement is not published in any source this page can verify, so check it on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority. IB Gram neither performs nor guarantees equivalency.

What should I send when I first ask about IB tutoring?+

Three things make the first session diagnostic rather than introductory: the subject and level, the component that is weak, and a recent marked script. A mock paper with the examiner's marks on it shows a specialist exactly where the losses are, and a returned internal assessment draft shows which criterion the band is sitting in. If no script exists, the first session creates one by setting a short timed section and marking it against the official scheme. The school's internal deadline calendar is the fourth useful item, particularly for a Year 13 autumn.

Does tutoring stop during Ramadan in Dubai?+

It usually changes shape rather than stopping. School days shorten, concentration in the afternoon drops, and sessions move later into the evening after iftar. Ninety-minute sessions typically become sixty, and content teaching gives way to timed question practice, which costs less concentration per mark gained. Families who want momentum without added fatigue often drop from two sessions a week to one for the month and move the intensive work into the spring break instead. Planning that shift in advance works considerably better than discovering it in the second week.

What happens if no specialist in my child's subject is available?+

We tell you, and we give a date rather than a substitute. Diploma Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English A are usually matched within a few days. Computer Science Higher Level, Arabic B and Theory of Knowledge are thinner and a request can wait a week or more. Putting a general science tutor in a Chemistry Higher Level seat costs a family money and a student confidence while teaching nothing new, so we do not do it. Where the wait is unworkable, we propose a shorter block with a different specialist on the single most urgent component.

Is Arabic compulsory for an IB student in a Dubai private school?+

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the international curriculum the school is licensed to teach, under KHDA's requirements. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. For an IB Diploma student, Arabic B is frequently the subject that drags a point total down, and the recoverable component is usually the individual oral, which rewards drilled structures rather than broad vocabulary.

How do online IB sessions actually run?+

Live video, one-to-one, with a shared screen in both directions. The working documents are the student's own marked script and the official mark scheme, open side by side, annotated as the session runs. Work is set at the end of each session and marked at the start of the next, and a short written note goes to the parent naming what was covered and what comes next. A tablet with a stylus helps in mathematics and the sciences but is not required; a phone camera pointed at a worked page does the same job less comfortably.

Start with the syllabus, not with a search for somebody nearby

If you are looking for an IB home tutor in Dubai South, the useful first question is not who lives close by. It is which component is losing marks and who teaches that component every week. Send us the subject, the level and a recent marked script, and the free trial lesson will come back with a written diagnosis rather than a sales conversation. Lessons are delivered live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, by a specialist matched to the paper your child is actually sitting. If the subject we are asked for is thin that week, we will say so and give you a date.
