IB Tutor near me in Dubai South

Typing IB tutor near me in Dubai South gives you a radius, not a specialist. A radius is the wrong filter for a programme built from command terms, markbands and six separate subject guides. IB Gram matches Dubai South students to a tutor who teaches their exact subject and level, delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. No tutor travels to a UAE address, and this page explains what the subject depth buys instead.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai South

Why a radius is the wrong way to find an IB tutor in Dubai South

A near-me search is a geography query. It returns whoever is close. For most services that is the right instinct: a plumber's skill does not vary with the subject of the leak. The IB Diploma is the opposite case. It is six separate courses, each with its own published subject guide, its own command terms, its own internally assessed component and its own markbands. A tutor who is excellent at Biology Standard Level is not, by that fact, any use to a Chemistry Higher Level candidate. Distance tells you nothing about which of those a person can teach.

For a family in Dubai South the radius filter bites harder than it would in Jumeirah or Al Barsha, simply because the residential density that supports a deep local tutor market is still building out here. Dubai South, Emaar South and the communities around Dubai Investments Park are newer. A near-me search from The Pulse or Expo Golf Villas returns a short list, and the people on it are selected by their willingness to drive the southern corridor at 17:00 rather than by what they have taught.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run in India only. Dubai South students are taught live, one-to-one, over video, with their own marked script on screen and the official markband beside it. Stating that plainly is the point: a page that implies a car will arrive at a Dubai South villa is misdescribing what it sells. What the online model buys instead is access to the person who teaches that subject guide every week, wherever they happen to live.

The rest of this page is about the material that specialist actually works with. The IB publishes its command terms and defines each one: analyse, evaluate, justify, outline, state, suggest, discuss. Those verbs are not stylistic. They determine the length, structure and content of a correct answer, and misreading one costs the whole question. Alongside them sit the markbands, which are the descriptive bands an examiner matches a long answer against. Students who have never read a markband are writing blind, and most have never read one.

One factual note so expectations are right. KHDA oversees the quality of private education in Dubai, inspects schools annually and publishes the ratings. KHDA does not accredit private tutors, and IB Gram holds no KHDA permit, approval or partnership, and runs no UAE centre. For individual tutors the real credential is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Ask to see it. It is a legal licence to teach privately rather than a statement about teaching quality, so the second question is always which subject guide at which level the holder has actually taught, and for how many cohorts.

At a glance

  • Command terms are defined by the IB and determine the shape of a correct answer
  • Markbands are published; students who have read them write differently
  • Matching runs on subject guide and level, so a radius is irrelevant
  • Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together carry up to three bonus points
  • Lessons are live one-to-one video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are India-only
  • AED figures on this page are published market bands, attributed, not IB Gram prices
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dubai South families ask about all three IB stages, with Diploma demand heaviest and Middle Years rising as Emaar South households move through secondary. Each note below is specific to this part of the emirate.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, labelled A to D, each marked 0 to 8 and then converted to a 1-7 grade. The criteria are not the same across subject groups: in Sciences, criterion B is inquiring and designing and criterion D is reflecting on the impacts of science, while in Individuals and Societies criterion B is investigating. A student can know the content thoroughly and still sit in the middle bands because the process criteria were never taught explicitly.

Middle Years students in the Dubai Investments Park cluster usually continue into the Diploma at the same school. The transition that hurts is assessment style rather than content: criterion marking rewards reflection and communication, while Diploma Paper 1 rewards accuracy under time. Naming that difference in Year 11 rather than Year 12 is worth more than any amount of extra content coverage.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three Higher and three Standard, each graded 1 to 7, plus up to three bonus points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, giving a maximum of 45. The Diploma requires 24 points and a set of pass conditions that catch students who ignore the core. Each subject's internal assessment is worth 20% to 25%, which is the proportion a student can secure months ahead of the papers.

Dubai South Diploma candidates sit the May session, the session UAE schools use. The dates that govern a Year 13 autumn are the school coordinator's internal deadlines for the internal assessment and Extended Essay, not the examination window. A tutoring plan built around examinations alone will arrive after those deadlines have already passed.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary, organised around units of inquiry, with continuous descriptive assessment rather than grades. Parents arriving from a system with termly examinations often cannot tell whether a child is behind. The three things that transfer into later success are number fluency, reading stamina and the ability to structure a written explanation, and tutoring at this stage is short, frequent and built on those.

Primary Years children in Dubai private schools also take KHDA's mandatory subjects alongside the inquiry units. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are compulsory whatever curriculum the school is licensed for, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in several of them. Families moving into Emaar South frequently learn this at enrolment rather than before it.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. It suits a student who wants Diploma-standard academics in a narrow set of subjects alongside a vocational specialism. Tutoring demand falls almost entirely on the Diploma courses within it and on the reflective project's argument structure.

The Career-related Programme is uncommon in this part of Dubai, so a family whose child is on it has nobody nearby to compare notes with. That isolation has a cost in the reflective project, where parents cannot judge whether a draft is on track. A specialist who has supervised the component elsewhere resolves it, and online delivery is the only route to one from Dubai South.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The Diploma subjects Dubai South families request most. Each note names the command terms or markband feature that decides the grade, rather than restating the syllabus title.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Mathematics uses its own command set: show that, hence, deduce, verify. Hence signals that the previous part must be used, and ignoring it loses method marks even when the answer is right. Paper 1 is non-calculator, so hand algebra is the deciding skill. The exploration is marked on five criteria, two of which reward process rather than mathematics.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-permitted throughout, with statistics, modelling and finance carrying the weight. Marks are lost not on calculation but on interpretation: stating a hypothesis, justifying the choice of model, explaining what a correlation coefficient means in the context given. Higher Level adds graph theory and matrices, both of which reward drilled procedure.

Physics

HL and SL

Determine, estimate and deduce each demand something different in physics, and Paper 1 gives no method credit at all. Paper 2 rewards structure, graph work and an uncertainty stated to a defensible number of significant figures. Higher Level adds fields and quantum phenomena. The investigation needs a measurable independent variable and real uncertainty analysis.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Deduce and explain are the high-tariff verbs, and a mechanism drawn with an arrow starting in the wrong place earns nothing. Multi-step calculations punish early rounding, because the error propagates to a final answer carrying most of the marks. The data booklet is permitted and most candidates have never located anything in it before the paper.

Biology

HL and SL

Command-term discipline decides the grade more than recall does. Outline, describe, explain and suggest demand different lengths and structures, and writing an explanation where outline was asked spends time without gaining credit. Higher Level adds plant biology and physiology depth that reward structured note-making over rereading.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams are marked, and the markband for an evaluation question specifically rewards a judgement supported by the diagram rather than a list of advantages and disadvantages. Higher Level adds quantitative questions. The internal assessment is three 800-word commentaries, each applying one syllabus unit to a news article, and summarising the article scores nothing.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 prints a guided question above the passage and the markbands reward answering it. Candidates who write a general appreciation lose the top bands regardless of the quality of their prose. The individual oral links a global issue to one literary and one non-literary text; Higher Level adds the essay at 1,200 to 1,500 words.

Business Management

HL and SL

Higher Level sits a pre-released case study for Paper 2, which rewards months of structured preparation. Tools such as Ansoff and investment appraisal must be applied to the named firm, not described. The Higher Level internal assessment is a 1,800-word research project based on primary research into a real organisation.

Geography

HL and SL

Examine and evaluate carry the highest tariff, and both require a judgement rather than coverage. Case-study specificity is what separates bands: a named place with figures beats a generic example every time. The fieldwork internal assessment needs a question answerable with data the student can actually collect.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The examination uses the IB's own pseudocode notation rather than any real language, and candidates who have coded only in Python lose marks on syntax they never practised. Trace tables are reliable marks and rarely drilled. The internal assessment is a solution for a real client with documented design, so the client conversation has to happen.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

A 1,600-word essay on one of six prescribed titles plus an exhibition of three objects with commentaries. The essay fails when it discusses the topic rather than the knowledge question in the title. Together with the Extended Essay it carries up to three bonus points, which students regularly discard and then finish short of their offer.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent essay in one Diploma subject, marked on five criteria with critical thinking carrying twelve of the available marks. The usual failure is a research question too broad to answer in the word limit. A supervisor may give substantive feedback on one complete draft; writing any part of it is malpractice.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

How Dubai South families actually use one-to-one online tuition. All three formats are live video with a matched specialist, and none involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Script-led weekly sessions

The default. Each session opens with the work set last week, marked against the official markband, and the comparison between what the student wrote and what the band requires is the lesson. It is slower than explanation and it is the only version that reliably moves a grade, because it treats the markband as the specification.

  • 60 or 90 minutes in a fixed weekly slot
  • Questions chosen by component, not by topic alone
  • Marked against the published markband, wording compared line by line
  • A short written note after each session naming the next target

Command-term and technique blocks

Four to six sessions doing nothing but answer construction: reading the verb, planning the shape, writing to the band. Used for students whose content knowledge is sound and whose scripts still come back mid-band. It is the fastest mark gain available to a competent student and almost nobody teaches it deliberately.

  • The IB's own command-term definitions worked through with examples
  • Short timed answers rather than full papers
  • Band descriptors read aloud and matched against the student's own writing
  • A one-page reference the student keeps for revision

Internal assessment and core supervision

Support across the months an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay really takes. The tutor works on the question, the method, the data handling and the argument, and gives feedback on the student's own writing. Nobody drafts or rewrites, because under IB rules that is malpractice and the consequence lands on the student.

  • Research question narrowed until the word limit can answer it
  • Criteria named by letter with their mark allocations
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never a rewrite
  • Mapped backwards from the school coordinator's internal deadlines

Examination-window intensives

Two or three sessions a week for four to six weeks before papers, built entirely on timed questions. No new content. The work is question selection, pacing, markband vocabulary and the specific weaknesses the student's own scripts expose. Dubai South families use this through the spring term and over the winter break.

  • Every session anchored to a timed paper or section
  • Pacing measured and reported, not estimated
  • Marked against the official scheme with the band stated
  • A written topic-by-topic list of what still costs marks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai South

01

What a near-me search returns in Dubai South, and what it filters out

  • A near-me ranking is a proximity and optimisation signal, not a competence signal
  • Dubai South supply is thinner than the older Dubai school belt
  • Standard Level subjects survive the proximity filter; Higher Level ones often do not
  • Online delivery removes the travel cut and nothing else

Run the search honestly and look at what the result set is selected on. A near-me query ranks by proximity and by whoever has done enough local optimisation to appear in a map pack. Neither signal has anything to do with whether the person has taught Chemistry Higher Level. For Dubai South the problem compounds, because the list is short to begin with: this is a newer district and the local supply of subject teachers is thinner than in the Jumeirah or Al Barsha belt.

The arithmetic a parent is unknowingly performing is this. Start with everyone who can teach Diploma Chemistry at Higher Level. Remove everyone who will not drive to Dubai South for a single evening session. Remove everyone whose free slot does not match your child's. What remains is the pool a near-me search is choosing from, and at each step the cut is made on logistics rather than on competence. For a Standard Level subject the pool is wide enough that the cuts do not hurt. For a Higher Level science, Computer Science or Arabic B, they remove almost everyone.

Online delivery removes only the second cut, but that is the expensive one. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all, so there is no pretence of presence here; the trade is stated openly. What you get in exchange is the first pool rather than the third: a tutor matched to the subject guide and the level your child is actually sitting. The table sets out how that changes by subject, which is a more useful comparison than any claim about quality.

Command terms: the verbs that decide the answer

The IB publishes definitions for the command terms used across its subject guides, and the definitions are operative rather than decorative. State requires no justification. Outline requires a brief account. Describe requires a detailed account. Explain requires reasons or causes. Discuss requires a balanced review with evidence on both sides. Evaluate requires a judgement with the strengths and limitations weighed. A student who writes a balanced discussion where state was asked has spent four minutes to earn one mark.

This is the single most common reason a competent student scores mid-band. Content knowledge is present; the answer is simply the wrong shape for the verb. It is also among the easiest things to fix, because the terms are a finite published list and a student can learn what each one demands in a handful of sessions. The surprising part is how few students have ever been shown the list. They have been taught the subject and left to infer the grammar of the examination.

The table below gives the verbs that cost the most marks across the subjects Dubai South families ask about. Use it with a marked script: take any answer that scored below its band and check whether the shape matches the verb. More often than not it does not, and the fix is structural rather than academic. A tutor working this way can shift a script a band without teaching any new content, which is also why a diagnostic first session matters more than an impressive subject CV.

03

How a past-paper session actually runs

  • The markband, not the textbook, is the working specification in a script-led session
  • Pacing is measured during a timed section rather than estimated
  • Self-marking against the scheme is set as homework and then audited
  • A session ends with a named target, not a general summary

Most tutoring sessions are explanations. The tutor talks, the student nods, the hour feels productive and the next script comes back the same. A script-led session inverts that. The student's marked work is on screen with the official markband next to it, and the first twenty minutes are spent establishing, answer by answer, where the written response fell short of the band. Not whether the student understood the topic, which they usually did, but what the band required that the answer did not contain.

The second half is production under conditions. A short timed section from the same component, written while the tutor watches the pacing rather than the content. Timing is the hidden variable in most underperformance: a student who writes well and slowly loses the last question in every paper, and that pattern is invisible in untimed homework. Measuring it takes one session and changes what the remaining sessions are for.

Between sessions the student completes a set section and marks it themselves against the scheme before sending it. Self-marking is uncomfortable and it is where the learning sits, because reading a markband while holding your own answer forces the comparison the examiner will make. The tutor then checks the self-marking at the start of the next session, which surfaces a second category of error: students who award themselves marks for things the band does not credit. That diagnosis is unavailable any other way, and it is the reason the homework is self-marking rather than simply answering questions. A student who can audit their own script against a published band has acquired the skill that keeps improving after the sessions stop.

04

Higher Level against Standard Level: what actually changes

Parents are often told Higher Level is harder, which is true and unhelpful. What matters is how it is harder, because that determines how many weeks of support a student needs and in which component. Higher Level adds syllabus content, but it also adds a paper in the sciences, shifts the weightings, and raises the analytical demand of the markbands at the top end. Those are four different changes and they need four different responses.

The extra content is the easiest to plan for: it is listed in the subject guide and can be covered. The extra paper is harder, because Paper 3 in the sciences examines a different skill set — data analysis and the option topic — and students frequently prepare for it last. The weighting shift matters because the internal assessment stays at 20% while the external papers redistribute, so a weak paper costs more at Higher Level than the same weakness costs at Standard. The markband shift is the subtlest: top bands at Higher Level reward evaluation and synthesis that Standard Level bands do not require.

For a Dubai South student the practical question is usually whether to drop a Higher Level subject to Standard. The table gives the comparison that conversation needs. The honest answer is that dropping is sometimes right and often done too late — a student struggling in three Higher Level subjects in the autumn of Year 13 has fewer options than one who made the same decision a year earlier. The university prerequisite is the deciding factor, because some courses specify Higher Level by name, and that should be checked before the subject is dropped rather than after.

Markbands and what an examiner is matching against

In the long-answer subjects, examiners do not add marks up from a list. They read the answer, decide which descriptive band it sits in, and then place it within that band. This is why two students with the same knowledge can receive different marks, and why a student who is used to point-scoring arithmetic finds the result arbitrary. It is not arbitrary. The bands are published and they describe specific qualities: the presence of a judgement, the use of evidence, the extent of the conceptual link.

The practical consequence is that adding more correct material to a mid-band answer does not necessarily move it. A Geography answer stuffed with accurate facts and no evaluation stays in the band below the one that requires a judgement, however many facts arrive. An Economics answer with four correct diagrams and no conclusion does the same. Students work harder and stay put, which is demoralising in a way that has nothing to do with ability.

Teaching this is straightforward once a student can read a band. The method is to take their own answer, read the band above where it was placed, and identify the single missing quality. Usually it is one of three: no judgement, no evidence tied to the claim, or no explicit link back to the question. The table names the pattern across the subjects this cluster asks about. A student who learns to audit their own writing this way becomes self-correcting, which is the only sustainable outcome tutoring can produce.

The core: three points most students leave on the table

  • Up to three bonus points sit in Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay
  • A research question too broad to answer caps the Extended Essay mark in advance
  • Critical thinking is worth twelve of the Extended Essay's marks
  • One round of substantive feedback on one draft is the permitted limit
  • Writing or editing to completion is malpractice, whoever does it

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together contribute up to three bonus points to the Diploma total out of 45. Students treat them as administrative obligations because they are not subjects and nobody examines them in a hall. The arithmetic says otherwise. A student holding a conditional offer two points short has usually not lost those points in a paper; they have declined to collect them from the core, which was available months in advance and depended on planning rather than performance.

The Extended Essay is 4,000 words in one Diploma subject, marked on five criteria with critical thinking worth twelve marks on its own. The commonest failure is a research question too broad to answer in the word limit, which caps the mark before a word is written. Theory of Knowledge is a 1,600-word essay on one of six prescribed titles plus an exhibition of three objects with commentaries, and the essay fails when it discusses the topic instead of the knowledge question in the title.

Both are improvable with ordinary work, and both have a hard boundary. A supervisor or tutor may discuss the question, explain the criteria, and give substantive feedback on one complete draft the student has written. A tutor may not write, rewrite or edit the work to completion. That limit is not a service restriction; it is the IB's academic-honesty rule, and a finding of malpractice falls on the student's Diploma rather than on the person who helped. Any provider offering a finished essay should be declined on that basis alone.

07

What a Dubai South family pays, and what the travel premium buys

Lead with the premium, because that is the decision in front of a near-me searcher. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500 once travel is priced in. Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. The difference between those bands is not teaching quality. It is a car on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road at 16:30.

What the premium actually buys is presence and the parent's ability to observe from the next room. For a seven-year-old who will not sit at a screen, that is worth paying for. For a Diploma student working through a marked script against a published markband, it buys very little, because the material is two documents that read better shared on a monitor than passed across a table. The premium also costs flexibility: a visiting tutor fits one session an evening, so a household with two secondary children is choosing between them.

The monthly packages published in this market put the trade in plain numbers: AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, against AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four in-home sessions of two hours. At the budget end, Tutopiya advertises from AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65, typically delivered by university students. At the top, TutorChase quotes AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 for named premium tutors. Every figure here belongs to the provider named; these are market bands and not an IB Gram price list, and our own conversation starts with a free trial lesson.

Grades 1 to 7, and what a point actually means

  • Grade boundaries are set per session, so last year's percentages are not a target
  • The Diploma needs 24 points plus pass conditions, not just the total
  • A university offer is usually a total and named subject grades together
  • The cheapest points are often in the core rather than in a subject
  • Mock results are the right moment to recalculate where hours should go

Each Diploma subject is graded 1 to 7 and the grade boundaries are set after each session, not published in advance, because they are adjusted to the difficulty of that session's papers. That is a genuinely useful fact for a parent, because it explains why last year's percentage threshold is not a target. What transfers between sessions is the relationship between components, not the raw mark needed.

The Diploma requires 24 points plus a set of pass conditions, which catch students who have the total but a failing grade in the wrong place. For university purposes the relevant number is usually a total plus specified subject grades: an offer of 36 points with 6 in Higher Level Chemistry is two separate requirements, and a student can hit the total and miss the offer. Reading an offer carefully in Year 12 changes which subject gets the tutoring hours.

The practical planning move is to work out where points are cheapest. One grade in a subject the student is close to a boundary in is cheaper than a grade in a subject they are two bands below. The three core points are usually the cheapest of all, because they depend on planning rather than examination performance. A session spent working out that arithmetic with a parent and a student is worth more than several spent teaching, and it is the conversation nobody has until the mock results arrive. The same calculation also settles whether a retake in November is worth entering, since a single subject grade is often all that separates a held offer from a lost one.

09

Fitting a session into a Dubai South evening

  • Earliest workable slot runs from about 16:00 in Green Community to 17:30 in Production City
  • A session after a break and a meal produces more than one straight off the school run
  • Weekend mornings suit internal assessment work and full timed papers
  • Winter and spring breaks hold more usable hours than the term around them
  • During Ramadan sessions move after iftar, shorten, and switch to timed practice

A plan that ignores the school run fails in week three. Dubai South and Emaar South households are usually home between 16:00 and 16:45 after a run into Dubai Investments Park or out to the Dubailand corridor. Green Community families manage 15:45. Dubai Production City families driving to Motor City are closer to 17:00. That spread sets the earliest realistic weekday slot anywhere between 16:00 and 17:30 depending on the street.

The second constraint is what a teenager can do after a full school day. A ninety-minute session at 16:30 immediately after a commute produces less than a sixty-minute session at 18:00 after a break and a meal. Families who book the earliest available slot because it is available often find attendance slipping by half term. The better pattern in this cluster is one weekday evening session between 17:00 and 19:30, with longer work moved to a weekend morning.

Weekend mornings are the underused resource. Internal assessment drafting, Extended Essay work and full timed papers all need uninterrupted stretches that a weekday evening cannot give. The UAE calendar supplies two more: the winter break and the spring break, when school workload drops to nothing and a student has more usable hours in a fortnight than in the six weeks either side. During Ramadan the pattern shifts again, with sessions moving after iftar and shortening, and content teaching giving way to timed practice, which costs less concentration per mark gained. Planning that shift in February rather than improvising it in March is what keeps a plan alive through the spring term in this cluster.

The school cluster serving this corner of the emirate, with IB continuum, British, Indian and SABIS provision close together. Residents here have the shortest run and the widest choice of early slots.

Jebel Ali

The established zone west of the cluster with long-standing British and Indian-curriculum schools. Demand skews towards IGCSE years and then transition work into the Diploma two years later.

Discovery Gardens

Apartment density with a cost-aware parent population. Sessions cluster after 18:00 because working parents prefer to be home while a lesson runs.

Green Community

Low-rise housing inside Dubai Investments Park, minutes from the schools, and one of the few communities here where a 16:00 weekday session genuinely works.

Dubai Production City

North-east of the cluster, with school runs to Motor City and Sports City. The longer drive pushes sessions past 17:30 and makes weekend mornings the preferred double-session slot.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai South

Dubai Investments Park and Green Community

The nearest cluster to Dubai South and where most students on this page are enrolled. IB continuum, British and SABIS provision sit within minutes of each other, so Diploma, Middle Years and IGCSE candidates come out of the same streets.

  • Greenfield International School
  • Nibras International School
  • Dove Green Private School
  • The International School of Choueifat Dubai Investments Park
  • Bright Learners Private School

Dubailand and the southern corridor

The drive east that Dubai South families make when they choose an IB continuum school over a nearer British one. It is the reason sessions from those households rarely begin before 17:00 during term.

  • Fairgreen International School
  • South View School
  • Jebel Ali School
  • The Aquila School
  • GEMS Metropole School

Al Furjan and Jebel Ali

The British-curriculum arc to the north and west, running IGCSE at 16 before a split into A Level or the Diploma. Households here often need IGCSE support and then Diploma support from the same child two years apart.

  • The Arbor School
  • Safa Community School
  • The Winchester School Jebel Ali
  • Delhi Private School Dubai
  • The Gardens School

Schools are named as context for the educational ecosystem around Dubai South; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject, the level and the component

Chemistry Higher Level with a weak Paper 2 and a finished investigation is a different request from Chemistry Higher Level with strong papers and no investigation started. Naming the component means the first session is a diagnosis rather than an introduction, and it is the most useful thing a Dubai South parent can put in a first message.

  2. 02

Send the most recent marked script

A mock paper with the examiner's marks shows a specialist in five minutes what a conversation approximates in an hour. Where marks were lost is visible on the page, and so is whether the losses are content or technique. With no script, the first session produces one from a short timed section.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the matched specialist

One full session, no charge, no card, taught by the person who would take the term. It returns a written diagnosis naming the command terms, topics and pacing problems found, and a plan for the first four sessions. A wrong match is rematched rather than persevered with.

  4. 04

Fix the slot around the actual school run

Not the earliest slot available, the one your child can work in. For most Dubai South households that is between 17:00 and 19:30 on a weekday, with weekend mornings held for internal assessment work and full timed papers. The slot is held for the term unless you move it.

  5. 05

    Run the self-marking cycle

Work set at the end of each session, self-marked by the student against the official scheme, audited by the tutor at the start of the next. The audit catches a second category of error: marks the student awarded themselves for things the band does not credit. That diagnosis is not available any other way.

  6. 06

    Recalculate after every mock

Mock results are the point at which the point arithmetic should be redone. Where is the cheapest grade? Is the core on track for its bonus points? Does the university offer require a named Higher Level subject the plan is not prioritising? Thirty minutes here redirects a term of hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the subject guide, not the map

The IB is six separate courses with six separate guides, and the relevant question is which of them a tutor has taught. Proximity answers a different question. Matching online means a Higher Level request from Emaar South is filled from the same pool as one from Jumeirah, which is where the near-me filter was costing a Dubai South family most.

Command terms and markbands taught explicitly

Most competent students who score mid-band are writing the wrong shape of answer for the verb. The IB publishes the command-term definitions and the markbands, and a student who has read both writes differently. Teaching this takes a handful of sessions and shifts scripts without any new content.

Sessions anchored to the student's own script

The working documents are a marked paper and the official markband, open side by side on a shared screen. That arrangement is more legible than paper across a table, and it keeps every session tied to how marks are awarded rather than to how a topic is explained in a textbook.

The academic-honesty boundary is explicit

Tutors teach content, explain criteria by letter and give feedback on the student's own draft. They do not write, rewrite or edit coursework to completion. The limit is stated to the student at the first session, which protects the Diploma the family is paying to improve.

Thin availability is disclosed, not concealed

Diploma Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English A match within a few days. Computer Science Higher Level, Arabic B and Theory of Knowledge can take a week or more, and we say so with a date rather than seating a generalist in a specialist's chair. No competitor page in this market publishes a coverage limit.

No regulator claims, and no UAE centre

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation or partnership and operates no office in the UAE. The regulators appear on this page because explaining what they do is useful to a parent, not because the names add anything to us.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai South: your questions answered

Is there an IB tutor near me in Dubai South who can visit the house?+

Not through IB Gram. Home visits are a service we run in India only and no tutor is sent to any UAE address. Dubai South students are taught live one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time, with their own marked script and the official markband shared on screen. Independent in-home tutors do work in this part of Dubai, and Bestimate's 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180-350 an hour. The trade is presence against specialism, and for a Higher Level Diploma subject the specialism is usually the scarcer thing.

Why does a near-me search return so few IB tutors in Dubai South?+

Because Dubai South is a newer district and the resident supply of experienced subject teachers is thinner than in the older Jumeirah and Al Barsha school belt. A proximity-ranked search then cuts that short list further, by removing anyone whose free slot does not match yours. For a Standard Level subject the remaining pool is usually workable. For Chemistry or Physics at Higher Level, or for Computer Science and Arabic B, the proximity filter removes almost everybody who could actually teach the course.

What are IB command terms and why do they matter so much?+

They are the verbs the IB uses in examination questions, each with a published definition that determines the shape of a correct answer. State needs one line with no justification. Outline needs a brief account. Explain needs reasons. Discuss needs a balanced review with evidence. Evaluate needs a judgement with strengths and limitations weighed. A student who writes a balanced discussion where state was asked spends four minutes earning one mark. Most students have never seen the list, which makes it one of the fastest mark gains available to a competent candidate.

My child knows the content but keeps scoring in the middle band. Why?+

Almost always because the answer is the wrong shape for the command term, or because it lacks the one quality the band above requires. In the long-answer subjects examiners place an answer in a descriptive band rather than totalling points, so adding more correct material to a mid-band answer does not necessarily move it. The missing quality is usually a judgement, evidence tied explicitly to the claim, or a direct link back to the question. Reading the band above their own mark with their own answer in hand fixes this faster than further teaching does.

How does a tutor use a past paper in a session?+

The marked script goes on screen with the official markband beside it, and the first part of the session establishes answer by answer what the band required that the writing did not contain. The second part is a short timed section written while the tutor watches pacing rather than content, because timing is invisible in untimed homework. Work is then set for the student to complete and self-mark against the scheme, and that self-marking is audited at the start of the next session, which surfaces marks the student awarded themselves wrongly.

Should my child drop a Higher Level subject to Standard Level?+

Sometimes, and the decision is usually made later than it should be. The deciding factor is the university prerequisite, because some courses specify a subject at Higher Level by name, so check the actual offers on the shortlist before dropping anything. Beyond that, the honest test is whether the student is a band below target in one component or across all of them. One weak component is a technique problem worth fixing; weakness across every component in three Higher Level subjects is a workload problem, and a student who faces it in Year 12 has far more options than one who faces it in Year 13.

How many points do Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay add?+

Up to three bonus points on top of the 42 available from six subjects, giving a maximum of 45. Students routinely treat the core as administrative because nobody examines it in a hall, and then finish two points short of a conditional offer. Those are usually the cheapest points on the table, because they depend on planning months in advance rather than on performance on one morning. The Extended Essay's critical thinking criterion alone is worth twelve marks, and a research question too broad to answer in 4,000 words caps the result before writing starts.

Why are IB grade boundaries not published in advance?+

Because they are set after each examination session and adjusted to the difficulty of that session's papers. A percentage that reached a 6 last year may not reach a 6 this year, and vice versa. What that means practically is that last year's threshold is not a target. The relationship between components does transfer, so a student can plan around the fact that the internal assessment is 20% of each subject and that one paper carries the largest external share. Aiming a clear band above the target rather than at it is the sensible response.

What time should a Dubai South session start on a school night?+

Later than the earliest available slot, in most cases. Households here are usually home between 16:00 and 16:45 after a run into Dubai Investments Park or the Dubailand corridor, and a ninety-minute session straight off that commute produces less than a sixty-minute session at 18:00 after a break. Green Community families can genuinely manage 16:00 because the school is minutes away; Dubai Production City families are closer to 17:30. Booking the slot a child can work in rather than the first one free is what keeps attendance intact past half term.

Can a tutor help with my child's Theory of Knowledge essay?+

Within the IB's limits, yes. A tutor may discuss the prescribed title, help turn it into a workable knowledge question, explain the assessment criteria and what separates the bands, and give feedback on one complete draft the student has written. A tutor may not write, rewrite or edit the essay to completion. The practical test is whether every sentence in the submitted document was composed by the student. A finding of malpractice falls on the student's Diploma, which is why any provider offering a finished essay should be refused outright.

Do I need more than one session a week for an IB subject?+

Usually not, outside an examination term. One session a week works when the cycle runs: diagnose in the session, practise and self-mark between sessions, audit at the start of the next. The limiting factor is how much independent practice a student can finish between sessions, not how much teaching they can sit through. Two a week makes sense when an internal assessment deadline and a mock paper collide, or in the four to six weeks before papers. More than two in one subject rarely pays, and adding a second subject before the first is stable usually slows both.

What does Paper 3 add for a Higher Level science student?+

A separate skill set, examined separately, and usually prepared last. Paper 3 in the Higher Level sciences covers data analysis and the option topic rather than the core content of Papers 1 and 2, which means revising the core thoroughly does not prepare a student for it. Students who have built a plan around the main papers reliably arrive at Paper 3 underprepared and lose marks that were straightforwardly available. It needs its own block of sessions, placed deliberately rather than squeezed into the final fortnight with everything else.

Which schools do IB students in Dubai South attend?+

Most are in the Dubai Investments Park and Green Community cluster, where IB continuum, British and SABIS provision sit within minutes of one another, or travel east to the Dubailand corridor for an IB continuum school. The British-curriculum schools around Al Furjan and Jebel Ali run IGCSE at 16 before splitting into A Level or the Diploma. KHDA publishes annual inspection ratings for every one of them on its own site, which is the document worth reading before an admissions conversation. IB Gram has no affiliation with any school named here.

Are IB tutors in Dubai licensed or approved by anyone?+

Individuals providing private lessons need a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. That is a legal licence to tutor, not a quality credential, and it says nothing about which subject guide the holder has taught. There is no such thing as a KHDA-approved tutor: KHDA oversees schools and issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises, which is a different instrument entirely. IB Gram holds no KHDA approval, accreditation or partnership and runs no UAE centre.

How do online IB lessons work in practice from Dubai South?+

Live video, one-to-one, with screens shared in both directions. The working documents are the student's own marked script and the published markband, open side by side and annotated as the session runs. Work is set at the end and audited at the start of the next session, and a short written note goes to the parent naming what was covered and the next target. A tablet with a stylus is helpful for mathematics and the sciences but not required; a phone camera over a worked page does the same job less comfortably.

What if no specialist in my child's subject is free this week?+

We say so and give a date rather than offering a substitute. Diploma Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English A usually match within a few days. Computer Science Higher Level, Arabic B and Theory of Knowledge are thinner and can take a week or more. Seating a general science tutor opposite a Chemistry Higher Level candidate costs a family money and a student confidence while teaching nothing the textbook would not have supplied. Where a wait is unworkable we propose a shorter block with a different specialist on the single most urgent component.

Search for the subject guide, not for the postcode

A near-me search for an IB tutor in Dubai South ranks people by how close they live. The Diploma rewards something else entirely: a tutor who knows the subject guide, the command terms and the markband your child's paper will be judged against. Send us the subject, the level, the component and a recent marked script, and the free trial lesson comes back with a written diagnosis rather than a sales pitch. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are an India-only service and are not offered in the UAE.
