IGCSE Home Tutor in Dubai South

Searching for an IGCSE home tutor in Dubai South usually means comparing this neighbourhood with the next one over — Al Furjan, Dubai Investments Park, Jebel Ali — and wondering whether the answer differs. It does not. IB Gram teaches Dubai South students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and sends no tutor to a UAE address. This page sets out the comparison honestly, with schools, commutes, syllabus codes and AED rates.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai South

Does the answer change between Dubai South and the next community along?

A parent in Dubai South comparing tutoring options almost always ends up comparing neighbourhoods. The Al Furjan listings look busier. Dubai Investments Park has the schools. Jebel Ali has the older, more established provision. The implied question is whether a family on the wrong side of a junction gets a worse tutor. For in-home tuition the answer is yes, measurably, because the pool shrinks with every kilometre of evening traffic a tutor has to absorb. For online tuition the answer is no, and the comparison collapses entirely, which is the single most useful thing on this page.

The practical difference between these communities is the school run, not the tutor market. Green Community children can be home by 15:45 because the school is minutes away. Dubai South and Emaar South households are usually home between 16:00 and 16:30 after a run into Dubai Investments Park. Dubai Production City families driving to Motor City or Sports City are later again, closer to 17:00. Those thirty-minute differences decide when a session can start. They do not decide who can teach it, once the lesson is delivered over video.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run in India only, and this page will not imply otherwise. What a Dubai South family gets instead is a specialist matched to the board, the tier and the paper, teaching live one-to-one with the student's own marked script on screen. For an IGCSE candidate that specificity matters more than most parents expect, because IGCSE is not one qualification. Cambridge 0580 Mathematics and Pearson 4MA1 International GCSE Mathematics are different syllabuses with different papers, different tiering and different formula sheets.

So the comparison on this page runs on four axes. First, the neighbourhoods themselves: which schools each feeds, what time the day ends, when a session realistically fits. Second, the two boards: Cambridge against Pearson Edexcel, subject by subject, with the syllabus codes a parent can check against their child's timetable. Third, the tiers: Core against Extended for Cambridge, Foundation against Higher for Edexcel, and the grade ceiling each imposes. Fourth, the money: what Dubai providers publish, cheapest band first, with the source of every figure named.

One regulatory note to set expectations. KHDA oversees the quality of private education in Dubai and publishes annual school inspection ratings, which are worth reading before any admissions conversation in this cluster. KHDA does not accredit private tutors, and IB Gram holds no KHDA permit, approval or partnership, and runs no UAE centre. The credential that genuinely exists for an individual tutor is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and it is reasonable to ask any tutor you hire to show it.

At a glance

  • The tutor pool is identical across Dubai South, Emaar South, Al Furjan and Jebel Ali once lessons are online
  • Only the session start time differs between these communities, by about thirty minutes
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE are separate syllabuses; check the code on the timetable
  • UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February or March series is offered to India only
  • AED figures here are published market bands with the provider named, not IB Gram prices
  • MoE equivalency counts five IGCSE subjects and excludes Arabic and Islamic Education
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dubai South sits between British-curriculum schools that run IGCSE at 16 and IB continuum schools that run the Middle Years Programme to the same age. Families here often have children in both, which is why all three stages below get asked about.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3

The three years before IGCSE, and the stage where most of the damage that shows up in Year 11 is actually done. Algebraic fluency, scientific notation, structured written explanation and reading speed are the four things a Year 9 student either has or spends Year 10 acquiring under pressure. Nothing is externally examined, which is why weaknesses go unnoticed until the first IGCSE mock paper returns a grade nobody expected.

In this corner of Dubai, Key Stage 3 is also when option choices start narrowing. Whether a school enters a student for Cambridge or Edexcel, and whether triple or double award science is on offer, is set at the school level and varies between the Al Furjan, Jebel Ali and Dubai Investments Park schools. A Year 9 parent comparing communities should compare those two facts rather than the building.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE

Two years, typically eight to ten subjects, externally examined at the end. Cambridge offers Core and Extended tiers in many subjects with different grade ceilings; Pearson Edexcel offers Foundation and Higher tiering in mathematics. Grading is 9 to 1 on Edexcel and on reformed Cambridge subjects, with A*-G still in use on some. The tier a student is entered for caps the grade available, which makes the entry decision as consequential as the revision.

IGCSE candidates in Dubai South sit the June series, with November available as a resit route. The February and March series is offered to India only and is not a UAE option, which is worth knowing because at least one widely read page has told UAE parents otherwise. Entry deadlines are set by the school as the examination centre, and they fall months before the papers.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The IB alternative to IGCSE for the same age group, marked on four criteria per subject from A to D on a 0-8 scale and converted to a 1-7 grade. There are no public examinations in most schools, and the Personal Project in the final year carries the heaviest time load. Students strong on content and weak on process lose marks in the inquiry and reflection criteria rather than in knowledge.

Several schools serving Dubai South run the Middle Years Programme rather than IGCSE, which means two children in neighbouring villas can be in the same year group facing completely different assessment. A family moving between the two systems mid-secondary needs gap mapping rather than general tutoring, because the content overlaps while the assessment format does not.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE subjects Dubai South families request most, with the syllabus codes and the specific place marks are lost. Codes are worth checking against your child's own timetable, since the board varies by school in this cluster.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580)

Core and Extended

Extended carries the full 9-1 range; Core caps lower, which makes the entry tier a grade decision. Paper 2 and Paper 4 are the Extended papers and both permit a calculator. Marks go on algebraic manipulation, on bearings and vectors, and on failing to show method where a question says so. The formula list is given, and most candidates have never read it before the examination.

Mathematics A (Pearson 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

Two papers of equal weight, both calculator-permitted, with Higher tiering required for the top grades. Pearson's style differs from Cambridge: more multi-step contextual questions and a heavier emphasis on ratio and proportional reasoning. Students moving school mid-course between boards most often stumble on question phrasing rather than on content.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Paper 4 is the Extended theory paper and Paper 6 is the alternative to practical, which asks about apparatus, variables and sources of error rather than recall. Candidates lose marks on unit prefixes, on describing an experiment without naming the controlled variable, and on graph questions where the gradient has to be read and interpreted rather than calculated.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations and the qualitative analysis tables account for most of the spread. The ionic equation questions are routinely attempted without balancing charge, which scores nothing. Organic chemistry at this level is nomenclature and reaction type rather than mechanism, which makes it one of the most recoverable topics in the syllabus in a short block of sessions.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

High recall volume, so the marks come from structured note-making and from command-term discipline. Describe, explain and suggest demand different answers, and writing the longest possible response to a two-mark question wastes examination time. The genetics and transport topics reward diagram work; the ecology topics reward precise terminology.

English Language (Cambridge 0500)

Core and Extended

Directed writing and the extended response carry the weight, and both are marked on structure as much as on expression. The commonest loss is answering in the wrong register for the stated audience and purpose. Reading comprehension marks go on the summary question, where candidates copy phrasing from the passage instead of condensing it in their own words.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

Single tier

Case-study based, with marks awarded for applying a concept to the specific business in the stimulus rather than defining it. Analysis and evaluation command words carry the highest tariff and are where most candidates stop short. Calculation questions on break-even, cash flow and ratios are reliably available marks and reliably under-practised.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single tier

Diagrams are marked, and an unlabelled axis costs the mark regardless of the prose. The data-response paper rewards reading the figures before writing, which candidates under time pressure routinely skip. Elasticity calculations and the distinction between a movement along a curve and a shift of it account for a large share of lost marks.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Paper 1 is theory, including data representation and hardware, and Paper 2 is algorithms and programming expressed in pseudocode. Candidates who have only coded in one language lose marks on pseudocode conventions they never practised. Trace tables are a reliable source of marks and are almost never drilled.

Arabic as a Second Language (Cambridge 0544)

Single tier

Taken by many non-Arab students in Dubai schools because Arabic is mandatory under KHDA rules. Assessment covers listening, reading, writing and speaking. The writing component rewards a small bank of accurately drilled structures over a wide but shaky vocabulary, which makes it one of the most improvable components in a short block.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Offered by some schools as a bridge towards A Level or the IB Diploma, covering calculus, trigonometry and vectors beyond 0580. Students take it alongside the main mathematics syllabus, and the overlap is smaller than they expect. It is a genuine advantage for a student heading into Diploma Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches.

Combined and Co-ordinated Science

Double award and single award

The alternative to three separate sciences, with a reduced content load and a different paper structure. Students entered for a combined route sometimes assume the grade ceiling is lower; it is the content coverage that differs. Families should confirm which route the school has entered their child for before planning any science tutoring, because the papers are not interchangeable.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats Dubai South families use, all delivered live one-to-one over video with a tutor matched to the board and tier. None involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Weekly subject tuition across a term

One session a week in one subject, with work set between sessions and marked at the start of the next. For an IGCSE candidate this is the format that moves a tier decision, because it produces enough evidence over a term for a school to reconsider a Core entry. Most families in this cluster begin here and add a second subject only when the first is stable.

  • 60 or 90 minutes in a fixed weekly slot
  • Past-paper questions from the correct board and tier
  • A short written note to the parent after each session
  • Same tutor across the term unless you ask to change

Two-subject science or maths blocks

Common in Year 11, where a student is weak across two linked subjects and the underlying cause is shared — usually algebra, or data handling, or the inability to read a graph. Running both subjects with one specialist who can see the common thread works better than two separate tutors treating two symptoms.

  • Two subjects, one specialist, alternating weeks or a split session
  • Shared diagnosis written down after the first fortnight
  • Algebra and graph work treated once rather than twice
  • Separate past-paper sets so both boards are respected

Pre-series intensive blocks

Compressed sessions in the weeks before the June or November papers, built entirely on timed questions under examination conditions. Teaching stops; the work is question selection, timing discipline, mark-scheme vocabulary and the specific topics a student's own scripts show as weak. Used heavily across the spring term in this cluster.

  • Two or three sessions a week for four to six weeks
  • Every session anchored to a timed paper or section
  • Marked against the official scheme, wording compared line by line
  • A written list of the topics still costing marks

Board or school transfer gap mapping

Short blocks for students changing school mid-course, including Cambridge to Edexcel or the reverse, or arriving into a Dubai South school from another system. The content overlaps; the paper style and the tiering do not. Four to eight sessions over a holiday closes most of the gap before term resumes.

  • A written list of what the new syllabus assumes is already known
  • Past papers from the new board from the first session
  • Tier and entry implications explained before options close
  • A handover note the student can show their new teacher

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai South

01

Dubai South against the next community along: the comparison, settled

  • The tutor pool is identical in all six communities once lessons are online
  • Only the session start time differs, and by about ninety minutes end to end
  • Two siblings can be taught in one evening online; a visiting tutor cannot do that
  • School curriculum varies between these communities more than tutor supply does

Here is the comparison a parent in this cluster is actually making, laid out rather than implied. The four communities below differ in which schools they feed, how long the run takes and therefore when a session can start. They do not differ in which tutors are available, because once the lesson is delivered over live video the tutor's address stops being a variable. That is the whole argument, and it is worth stating before the table rather than after it.

What the table does show is a scheduling reality. A Green Community family can run a 16:00 session during term; a Dubai Production City family cannot, because the car is still on the road. An Emaar South family with a primary and a secondary child can run both in one evening online, which is physically impossible with a visiting tutor who can only be in one house at a time. These are the operational facts that decide whether a plan survives a term, and no competitor page in this market publishes them.

The second thing the comparison exposes is school variation. The Al Furjan and Jebel Ali schools are predominantly British-curriculum and run IGCSE; the Dubai Investments Park cluster mixes IB continuum, British and SABIS. That means two children of the same age in neighbouring communities may be sitting completely different assessment at 16. A parent comparing tutoring between neighbourhoods is often, without realising it, comparing two qualifications. Checking the syllabus code on the child's own timetable resolves it in thirty seconds.

Cambridge against Pearson Edexcel for the same subject

Schools in this cluster use both boards, sometimes within the same building for different subjects. A tutor who does not know which one a student is entered for will set the wrong past papers, and the student will spend a term practising question styles they will not meet. The syllabus code on the school timetable settles it: 0580 is Cambridge Mathematics, 4MA1 is Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, 0625 is Cambridge Physics, 4PH1 is Pearson.

The differences are real but narrow. Cambridge tends to ask shorter, more compartmentalised questions and runs a Core and Extended tier across many subjects. Pearson tends towards longer multi-step contextual questions and uses Foundation and Higher tiering in mathematics. Cambridge sciences include a separate alternative-to-practical paper that asks about apparatus and error; Pearson handles practical skills differently. None of this changes what a student needs to understand; all of it changes what a student needs to practise.

Session dates differ too, which matters for planning. Cambridge IGCSE runs a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. Neither board's UAE candidates sit a February or March series — that one is offered to India only. Cambridge also allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, and states plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong zone timetable was used. Check the zone with the school.

Core against Extended, and the grade your child can actually reach

The tier decision is the most consequential thing that happens to an IGCSE candidate, and it is usually made by the school with limited discussion. A Core entry in Cambridge Mathematics caps the grade available; an Extended entry opens the full range but presents harder papers. The same logic applies to Foundation and Higher on Pearson. A student entered at the lower tier cannot reach the top grades however well they perform, which means an entry decision made in Year 10 on the basis of a weak term can close a university route two years later.

The honest position is that both over-entry and under-entry cost marks. A student placed on Extended who cannot handle the algebra will score badly on papers designed for somebody else and may end up below where a confident Core performance would have landed them. A student placed on Core who was always capable of Extended loses grades they could have had. The decision should rest on evidence from timed papers at both tiers, not on an impression formed in class.

That is a practical use for a term of weekly tutoring in Year 10. Sitting a timed Extended paper under conditions, marked against the official scheme, produces the evidence a school needs to revisit an entry. It is also why the tier has to be established before any tutoring plan is written: setting Extended practice for a Core candidate wastes the term, and setting Core practice for an Extended candidate guarantees an unpleasant surprise in the examination hall.

What IGCSE tuition costs in Dubai, cheapest band first

  • Market bands from the named providers, not an IB Gram price list
  • Monthly packages seen: AED 799 online for eight sessions; AED 1,599-1,799 in-home for four
  • Ask whether any quoted rate includes VAT before you commit
  • The in-home premium over online is mostly the travel being paid for

Start at the bottom of the market and work up, because that is how a household comparing options actually reads a price list. The cheapest published online tuition in Dubai starts around AED 33-52 an hour on Tutopiya and AED 45-65 on EdFlik, typically delivered by university students or non-specialist tutors. Next up, Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200 for qualified subject tutors online. TutorChase quotes AED 270. At the top, BartyED quotes AED 650 for premium named tutors.

In-home visits sit apart from that ladder rather than above it. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350, and independent home tutors are quoted up to AED 500 once travel is priced in. The gap between an online qualified tutor at AED 150-300 and an in-home one at AED 180-500 is largely the driving. Published monthly packages in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, which is the clearest illustration of what travel costs.

Where the money gets wasted, in order. First, buying hours at the cheap end for a specialist problem: a non-specialist cannot diagnose why a 0625 Paper 6 script is losing marks, so the hours teach nothing. Second, buying hours without a diagnosis, which turns a tutor into a weekly homework supervisor. Third, paying the travel premium for a lesson whose working material is a script and a mark scheme, both of which are more legible on a shared screen. Every figure above is attributed to the provider that published it; these are market bands, not IB Gram's rates, and our own conversation begins with a free trial lesson.

The June and November series, counted backwards

No competitor page in this market names an examination session at all, which is remarkable given that the session is the only fixed point a tutoring plan has. For a Dubai South IGCSE candidate there are two: the June series and the November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Cambridge IGCSE runs June and November, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March series is offered to India only and is not available to UAE candidates.

Counting backwards is the useful exercise. The entry deadline sits months before the papers and is handled by the school as the examination centre, not by the family. Mock papers typically land a term earlier. Coursework or practical deadlines, where a subject has them, land earlier still. Results reach centres before students: for Pearson, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are the published, checkable reference points.

The practical reading of the table below is that an eight-week tutoring block has to be placed relative to a mock, not relative to the examination. A student whose mock is six weeks away has a different plan from one whose mock has already returned a grade. And because Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, and says plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an examination after the wrong zone timetable was used, the one thing worth doing today is confirming the zone and the final timetable with the school rather than trusting any restated date.

Online against in-home for an IGCSE candidate in this cluster

The comparison is narrower at IGCSE than at Diploma level, because IGCSE specialists are more plentiful than Higher Level Diploma specialists. A Dubai South family hiring in-home for Mathematics 0580 has a reasonable local pool. The same family hiring in-home for Computer Science 0478 or Arabic 0544 at short notice does not, and will end up with a generalist. That is the shape of the trade: common subjects, either format works; less common subjects, only one format reaches a specialist.

On cost, the in-home premium is the travel. Bestimate's band starts at AED 180 for in-home against far lower online entry points, and the monthly packages make it starker: AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599-1,799 for four in-home sessions of two hours. On scheduling, a visiting tutor fits one session an evening while an online tutor fits several, which matters to any household with two children in secondary school.

What in-home genuinely delivers is presence for a younger child who will not settle in front of a screen, and the option for a parent to observe from the next room. For a Year 10 or 11 candidate working through marked past papers, the balance moves the other way: the lesson material is a script and a mark scheme side by side, which reads better shared on screen than passed across a table. IB Gram delivers to Dubai South online and does not offer home visits in the UAE; the table sets out what that means rather than glossing it.

Who may legally tutor in the UAE, and how to check

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated. Individuals providing private lessons need a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are broad: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists the route as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services, with a two working-day completion time and no fee.

Two things follow for a Dubai South parent. First, a tutor who tells you no permit is needed is wrong, and individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any specific figure quoted at you as unverified. Second, a permit is a legal licence to tutor, not a quality credential. It says nothing about whether the holder has taught Cambridge 0620 to Extended tier before.

A separate point worth knowing if you are considering a school teacher privately. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Treat the ADEK detail as press-reported and verify it against the current policy document. The underlying principle is consistent across the UAE: your child's own class teacher is not the right private tutor, however convenient it looks.

Five subjects, not six: MoE equivalency for IGCSE students

  • Five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no lower than E or grade 3
  • Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from that count of five
  • One A Level at E, or two AS Levels at E, completes the British track
  • American track: IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 reading and writing, plus SAT Math 450
  • No IB points figure is published here because none could be verified

Equivalency is the Ministry of Education process that recognises a school-leaving certificate for use in the UAE, and IGCSE families meet it later than they should. The British-track requirement is published and specific: five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no lower than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

The detail that matters most, and that at least one ranking competitor page gets wrong, is what counts towards the five. Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among the five required subjects. A competitor page currently tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects; the sourced rule is five, excluding those two. A family planning subject entries around the wrong number may pay examination fees for a subject that was never needed, which is an expensive way to be misinformed.

For the American track the published requirements are different again: English proficiency via IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics via at least 450 in SAT Math. For the IB there is no points threshold in any source this page can verify, so none is published here. Check it on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority directly. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency, and tutoring is not required for it — any page implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory process.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Dubai South

The communities compared on this page. Online delivery means the tutor pool is the same in all of them; what differs is when a session can start.

Dubai South

The district around Al Maktoum International and the Expo site, including Residential District and The Pulse. Most school runs end in Dubai Investments Park, putting the household home between 16:00 and 16:30 and the earliest workable weekday slot at about 16:30.

Emaar South

Villas and townhouses around the golf course inside Dubai South, with a younger age profile than the apartment communities north of it. Primary and lower-secondary demand dominates here, which concentrates bookings in the 16:30 to 18:00 window.

Al Furjan

North on the Sheikh Zayed side with its own metro station and its own school provision. Secondary students commonly travel to Discovery Gardens or Dubai Investments Park, arriving home between 15:45 and 16:30 depending on the route.

Dubai Investments Park

The school cluster for this whole corner of the emirate, with British, IB continuum, Indian and SABIS provision close together. Families living here have the shortest run in the comparison and the widest choice of early slots.

Jebel Ali

The established residential zone west of the cluster, with long-standing British and Indian-curriculum schools. IGCSE candidates in Years 10 and 11 are the bulk of the tutoring demand, followed by transition work into A Level or the Diploma.

Discovery Gardens

Dense apartment living with a cost-conscious parent population and strong interest in what each AED band actually buys. Sessions here cluster after 18:00, because working parents prefer to be home while a lesson runs.

Green Community

Low-rise housing inside Dubai Investments Park, minutes from the schools. One of the few communities in this comparison where a 16:00 weekday session is genuinely workable during term time.

Dubai Production City

North-east of the cluster, with families driving to Motor City and Sports City schools. The longer run pushes sessions to 17:30 and later, and makes weekend mornings the preferred slot for double sessions.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai South

Dubai Investments Park and Green Community

The nearest school cluster to Dubai South and the one most students on this page attend. British, IB continuum and SABIS provision sit within minutes of each other, so IGCSE, Middle Years and Diploma candidates come from the same streets.

  • Greenfield International School
  • Dove Green Private School
  • Nibras International School
  • The International School of Choueifat Dubai Investments Park
  • Bright Learners Private School

Al Furjan, Jebel Ali and Discovery Gardens

The British-curriculum arc north and west of Dubai South, where IGCSE at 16 is the standard route before A Level or the Diploma. Boards differ between these schools, which is exactly why a syllabus code matters more than a school name when arranging tutoring.

  • The Arbor School
  • Safa Community School
  • The Winchester School Jebel Ali
  • Delhi Private School Dubai
  • The Gardens School

Dubailand and the southern corridor

A short drive east, chosen by Dubai South families who want an IB continuum or a particular British school over a nearer option. The commute is the reason sessions from these households rarely start before 17:00 in term time.

  • South View School
  • Fairgreen International School
  • Jebel Ali School
  • The Aquila School
  • GEMS Metropole School

Schools are named to describe the school ecosystem around Dubai South; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the board, the code and the tier

Before anything else, check the syllabus code on the school timetable. 0580 or 4MA1, 0625 or 4PH1, Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher. A tutor given the wrong board sets the wrong past papers for a whole term. Thirty seconds on a timetable prevents it, and it is the one thing most parents in this cluster have not yet done.

  2. 02

Send a marked script, not a description

A mock paper with the examiner's marks on it tells a specialist in five minutes what a conversation takes an hour to approximate. Where marks were lost is visible on the page. If no script exists, the first session makes one by setting a short timed section from the correct board and marking it against the official scheme.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the matched tutor

One full session at no charge, with no card required, taught by the tutor who would take the term. It returns a written diagnosis naming the topics and the techniques losing marks, and a proposal for the first four sessions. If the match is wrong, we rematch rather than asking you to persevere with it.

  4. 04

Place the block relative to the mock, not the examination

The useful fixed point is the mock paper, because it is the next piece of real evidence. A student six weeks from a mock needs coverage; a student holding a returned mock needs targeted repair. Both plans end in a pre-series intensive, but they start in different places.

  5. 05

Run the cycle and review it each half term

Work set at the end of every session, marked at the start of the next. Each half term, compare progress against the school's own deadlines for coursework, mocks and entry confirmation. That is where a tier conversation gets reopened with evidence, which is the single highest-value outcome available in Year 10.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The neighbourhood stops mattering

Dubai South, Emaar South, Al Furjan, Jebel Ali and Green Community draw from the same tutor pool once delivery is online. The only thing that still differs is what time a session can start, and that is a thirty-minute question rather than a quality one. Families comparing communities for tutoring are comparing something that no longer varies.

Matched to the syllabus code, not the subject name

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different syllabuses. A tutor matched to the board and tier sets the right past papers from the first session; a tutor matched only to maths spends a term on question styles the student will never sit. This is the commonest avoidable waste in IGCSE tutoring.

Tier evidence a school will take seriously

A timed Extended paper sat under conditions and marked against the official scheme is evidence. Class impressions are not. For a student placed on Core who is capable of more, producing that evidence in Year 10 is worth more than any amount of revision later, because the entry decision caps the grade before revision begins.

AED figures that can be checked

Every rate here is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it. Three of the most visible competitors in this market publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, which no Dubai household transacts in. A number a parent cannot check is not worth printing.

The right exam series, stated plainly

UAE candidates sit June and November. The February and March series is offered to India only. That distinction has been published incorrectly to UAE parents elsewhere, and a family who plans around the wrong series loses the plan. We say which series applies and point to the school for the zone timetable.

No regulator claims and no UAE centre

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership, and operates no office or centre in the UAE. Regulators are explained on this page because the explanation is useful to a parent, not because the names lend us anything.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai South: your questions answered

Will I get a better IGCSE tutor in Al Furjan than in Dubai South?+

Not through an online service, because the tutor pool is the same in both. The difference between these communities is the school run: Al Furjan households are often home by 16:00 while Dubai South households are closer to 16:30, so the earliest workable session differs by about fifteen minutes. For in-home tuition the comparison does change, since a tutor's willingness to drive varies with distance and traffic. That is precisely the constraint online delivery removes, and it is why the neighbourhood question stops being a quality question.

Which IGCSE exam board does my child's school in Dubai South use?+

It varies by school and sometimes by subject within one school, so the reliable answer is on your child's own timetable rather than in any directory. Look for the syllabus code: 0580 is Cambridge Mathematics, 4MA1 is Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, 0625 is Cambridge Physics, 4PH1 is Pearson. The British-curriculum schools around Al Furjan and Jebel Ali commonly use Cambridge, but there is no safe generalisation. Confirming the code takes thirty seconds and determines which past papers a tutor should be setting from the first session.

Can my child be moved from Core to Extended?+

Sometimes, and the lever is evidence rather than argument. Schools reconsider an entry tier when a student sits a timed Extended paper under examination conditions and the marked script supports the move. Class performance alone rarely shifts a decision. The practical route is a term of weekly tutoring in Year 10 ending in a full timed paper marked against the official scheme, then taking that script to the subject lead. The decision matters because a Core entry caps the grade available however well a candidate performs on the day.

Is there an IGCSE exam session in February or March for UAE students?+

No. Cambridge's February and March series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. This matters because a family that plans a revision block towards a session their child cannot sit has lost the term. Cambridge also allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version, and states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. Confirm the zone with the school.

How much does a home tutor cost in Dubai compared with online?+

Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one tuition in Dubai at roughly AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500 once travel is priced in. Online qualified subject tutors sit at AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Published monthly packages make the gap clearest: AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Most of that difference is the driving being paid for, not better teaching. These are market figures from the providers named, not IB Gram prices.

Does IB Gram send tutors to homes in Dubai South?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service runs in India only. Dubai South families are taught live one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own marked script and the official mark scheme shared on screen. We state this plainly rather than leaving it to be discovered, because a page that implies a car will arrive is misleading the family paying for it. Independent in-home tutors do operate in this part of Dubai if presence is the priority for you.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a licence?+

Yes. Individuals providing private lessons need a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE processes it through its app, website and e-services with a two working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted amount as unverified.

Is six IGCSE subjects the right number for a Dubai South family to plan around?+

No. The sourced rule is five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade no lower than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among those five. The British track also requires either one accredited Advanced Level subject at no lower than E, or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. At least one widely read competitor page tells UAE parents six IGCSE subjects are required, which does not match the published rule. Verify your own case on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority; IB Gram does not perform or guarantee equivalency.

My child is sitting papers in six weeks. Is it too late to start?+

No, but the plan has to change. Six weeks is not enough time to cover a syllabus, and attempting it produces panic without marks. What works is a pre-series intensive: two or three sessions a week built entirely on timed questions, with no new content taught. The first session diagnoses from a marked script, the rest attack the specific topics and techniques that script shows as weak. Students routinely gain marks in this window from timing discipline, command-word reading and mark-scheme vocabulary alone, none of which requires new knowledge.

Can one tutor cover both of my children in Dubai South?+

Different children usually need different specialists, because a Year 8 and a Year 11 candidate are at different points of different syllabuses. What online delivery does allow is two sessions in one evening, back to back, which a visiting tutor physically cannot provide. If both children need the same subject at adjacent levels, one specialist can take both, and the practical saving is in scheduling rather than in price. Each child still gets a one-to-one session with their own set work and their own written note afterwards.

What is the alternative to practical paper in Cambridge sciences?+

Paper 6 in Cambridge Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620 and Biology 0610 is the alternative to practical, and it examines experimental skills on paper rather than in a laboratory. Questions ask candidates to identify variables, read instruments, spot sources of error, suggest improvements and complete results tables. It is heavily under-practised because it does not feel like content revision, yet it carries real marks and the question types repeat across series. A handful of sessions working through past Paper 6 questions is one of the most efficient mark gains available at IGCSE.

Is Arabic compulsory in Dubai private schools at IGCSE level?+

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever international curriculum the school is licensed to teach, under KHDA's requirements. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ between the two groups. For an IGCSE candidate, Cambridge 0544 Arabic as a Second Language is the usual entry, and the writing component is where a small bank of accurately drilled structures pays off fastest.

When do IGCSE results come out for UAE candidates?+

Results reach examination centres before students. For Pearson Edexcel, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The pattern holds: a June series produces results in August and a November series produces results in January. Those dates set the window for a remark request or a resit entry, both of which are handled through the school as the examination centre rather than directly by the family. Confirm the exact dates with the school each year.

Where does tutoring money get wasted in Dubai?+

Three places, in order of cost. Buying cheap hours for a specialist problem, where a non-specialist cannot diagnose why a particular paper is losing marks and the hours teach nothing. Buying hours with no diagnosis, which turns a tutor into a weekly homework supervisor at a subject-specialist rate. And paying the in-home travel premium for a lesson whose entire working material is a marked script and a mark scheme, both of which read better shared on a screen than passed across a table. All three are avoidable by naming the component before booking.

How do I know a tutor actually knows my child's syllabus?+

Ask for the syllabus code they have taught, not the subject. A tutor who has taught Cambridge 0620 Chemistry to Extended tier will say so and will know that the qualitative analysis tables are examined. A tutor who answers chemistry has told you nothing. Then ask what they would set in the first session; a specialist names a paper and a topic, a generalist describes an approach. The free trial lesson exists so that this test happens before any money changes hands rather than after a term of it.

The comparison between neighbourhoods ends where online delivery begins

If you have been weighing an IGCSE home tutor in Dubai South against options in Al Furjan or Jebel Ali, the honest answer is that the comparison dissolves once lessons are delivered over live video. The tutor pool is the same; only the start time moves. What still matters is the board, the tier and the component. Send us the syllabus code, the tier and a recent marked script, and the free trial lesson returns a written diagnosis. Lessons are one-to-one online on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are an India-only service and are not offered in the UAE.
